Jesy Nelson supported as she suffers backlash after announcing documentary

The news arrived days after she welcomed her twins

Singer Jesy Nelson has been met with a mixed reaction after revealing she will be starring in a new documentary.

The news arrived days after she announced she had given birth to her twins over the weekend. “Everybody meet Ocean Jade Nelson-Foster and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster,” she shared on Instagram, while attaching the first photos of her newborns.

However, in another update on Tuesday (May 20), Jesy shared “more exciting news”.

    Jesy Nelson announces new documentary

Jesy took to her Instagram and announced her fly-on-the-wall series. Titled Life After Little Mix, the Touch hitmaker said she wanted to tell her story in her “own words”.

In December 2020, Jesy left Little Mix after she said the group took a toll on her mental health. When she embarked on a solo music career, she was accused of “blackfishing”.

Since parting ways from Little Mix, Jesy has not remained close with her other three band members, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall.

“We have more exciting news to share … I feel so excited and proud that we can finally reveal we have been filming our own series for @primevideouk,” she wrote in her caption.

“Letting the cameras in wasn’t an easy decision for us as it’s such a deeply personal time, but I knew I wanted to tell my story in my own words.”

Jesy continued: “We opened the doors fully and I’m really looking forward to letting you all in as I navigate my way to becoming a first-time mum to our beautiful baby girls Ocean and Story.

“I’ll be honest, it’s not been easy as it’s been such a high-risk pregnancy, so you’ll see all the highs and lows and rollercoaster of emotions we have been going through.”

She hopes her fans “will all join me on this journey as I really open up and say goodbye to the past and enter this new chapter in my life”.

‘Most of us will not be watching’

Following the announcement, fans were left divided by the news.

“I speak for everyone when I say nobody’s watching,” one user wrote on X.

“Exactly zero people will be tuning in,” another person shared.

“She wanted to separate so much from the group but still uses their name,” a third remarked.

“I think keep Little Mix’s name out of your mouth, that would be better,” a fourth said.

“Most of us will not be watching,” a fifth shared.

    ‘Obsessed already’

However, not everyone felt the same way, with many fans sending their support to the singer.

“Can’t wait to see Jesy’s story unfold!” one excited fan said. “Girl’s got the solo gig, can’t wait to see her shine,” another expressed.

“An icon actually,” a third shared. “Obsessed already, can’t wait,” a fourth said.

In 2019, Jesy starred in a documentary for the BBC, Odd One Out, which focused on her struggles with body image, mental health and online trolling. She won the NTA Factual Entertainment Award.

Lorraine Kelly takes drastic measure to save show amid ITV bloodbath

ITV star Lorraine Kelly is willing to pull out all the stops to save her daytime show amid severe cuts at the broadcaster

Lorraine Kelly, 65, is fighting to save the long-term future of her show. Insiders say the TV presenter – whose programme faces major cuts in an ITV cost drive – will have to “pull out all the stops” for it to survive.

Lorraine will now air only 30 weeks a year instead of all year, with episodes cut to 30 minutes from an hour. A source said: “Lorraine was not happy about what is happening and also had concern for the production team which will be cut back too.

“But the truth is she has to roll her sleeves up and work harder on her own show than she has in recent years, otherwise the long-term future does not look good. She has been an icon of ITV but serious cuts need to be made and her show has been cut to just 30 minutes, which after ad breaks will be a very short chunk of time.

“She needs to show bosses it is worth keeping on air. You can expect her to be pulling hard to get big name celebrities on her show instead of GMB or This Morning.”

Lorraine was told her show was being cut back in a tense private meeting with bosses – and will now need to work five days a week to have a chance of keeping it on air long term.

ITV staff working on daytime were told in a meeting on Tuesday that half of the 440 production staff will go. But boss Kevin Lygo arranged for Lorraine to be told separately in the days before. Lorraine has been a telly regular for 40 years, on GMTV and Good Morning Britain before her own show in 2010.

However, she has not been hosting Friday episodes, with Christine Lampard and Ranvir Singh filling in. Last week staff Lorraine returned after surgery to remove her ovaries, which she discussed on screen.

A source close to the show said: “February, March and April celebrated the highest viewing figures for three years. The show reaches 1.1 million every day and 2.7 million every week.”

The ITV cuts will also affect other daytime shows, with Loose Women rumoured to be losing up to 10 of its 26 panellists.

Good Morning Britain also faces cuts but one constant will be Susanna Reid. A source said: “She is someone ITV want to build the show around and is seen as an essential part of daytime. She is 100% safe from the cuts.”

Hundreds of staff are now in a consultation process at ITV. An ITV spokesman said: “At a time when our daytime teams are undergoing a period of change we will not comment on speculation around talent or staff contracts.

“Our intention is to keep our daytime shows as familiar to viewers as possible which includes seeing presenters they know and love.”

Helen Flanagan slips into bargain blue swimsuit on solo trip after heartbreaking split

Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan flew off to France on Friday after splitting up with her boyfriend, Robbie Talbot, for a heartbreaking reason

Helen Flanagan looked deep in thought when she was papped in France on Friday after calling it quits with her boyfriend. Seen sporting a bargain blue swimsuit following her heartbreaking split with Robbie Talbot, the Coronation Street star, 34, walked along the beach in Antibes alone, after reportedly having a ‘grown up chat’ with Robbie, who she had dated for a year, before calling it quits over claims she wanted children with the former footballer, 45.

Following her heartbreak, the mum-of-three is now said to be focusing on the kids she shares with ex, Scott Sinclair – and her career – and decided to jet off abroad on a solo trip as she gets used to her single life again. Seen sporting a stunning £14 powder blue floral swimsuit from Primark while sunning herself at the swanky YOLO beach club in Antibes, France, the Rosie Webster star, cooled off in the sea, with her blonde locks tied up into a bun, sporting a pair of black Miu Miu designer sunglasses.

After paddling in the crystal-clear water in the seaside city in the south of France, she then went for a stroll on her own, clutching a bright blue linen shirt, also from Primark and priced at £10, which, along with the swimsuit is part of the high street store’s Love the Summer range and available to buy from May 27.

It’s been a tough time for the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star, who reportedly split from Robbie because they want “different things in life”.

The Bolton-born actress, best known for playing the role of Rosie Webster in Coronation Street, is said to have wanted children with the dad-of-two, with sources saying the pair had a “grown-up” chat after realising that things were not working out between them.

    Helen Flanagan

The split comes just weeks after Helen was reportedly worried that her relationship could be “going backwards” after Robbie moved out months after they started living together. Helen reportedly was desperate to make the relationship work, but found it difficult to juggle her role as devoted mum to children Matilda, nine, Delilah, six, and three-year-old Charlie, while building something new.

She also recently put her ‘forever home’ up for sale amid reports of financial strain. The actress has been candid about her bank balance and her mental health in recent months, admitting that at one point, she lost all her money.

Helen had initially lived in the eight-bedroom house in Bolton, Greater Manchester, with her now ex-partner Scott 36, and their three children, prior to the couple’s separation in 2022.

    Helen Flanagan
Helen is said to have left her boyfriend for a heartbreaking reason(Image: BACKGRID)

Taking to Instagram in January, she shared: “My love life was a s**t show…. I didn’t look after my mental health. I felt so s**t and sad. I felt like my whole life was f***ed up now and I had the perfect family. 13 years is a long time to be with someone. My whole 20s. I had a lot of family fall-outs too and I also lost basically all my money. Me and Scott weren’t married we were engaged.

“My mental health was so bad I thought maybe my kids would be better off without me and maybe they would be better off with their dad as he’s more level-headed than me. I love my kids more than words can say, but when you are not well you’re not well.”

Recently revealing that selling her family home, had left her ‘anxious’, she explained that while she’s looking forward to the “fresh break” she was also worried about “downsizing”.

She’s now said to be focusing on her career(Image: BACKGRID)

Explaining she’d put ‘a lot of her savings’ into the property to make it ‘nice for her kids’, she said recently on the Declutter podcast: “It actually makes me sad that I’m going to be leaving this house soon because I actually put so much effort into it. I put a lot of my savings into like doing the house up and stuff, and making it look really beautiful.”

Conceding it was a lot of work to manage, Helen continued: “It’s an eight bedroomed house which is obviously really hard to keep on top of. I mean, I feel really lucky to to live here – well, soon to have lived here – because it is gorgeous but it’s a lot to keep on top of.”

“But I think I’m gonna struggle to… Obviously when I do [move] because obviously I will be downsizing so much.”

  • Beckhams’ fears over Brooklyn’s ‘unhealthy’ marriage including 70 Nicola Peltz tattoos

Beckhams’ fears over Brooklyn’s ‘unhealthy’ marriage including 70 Nicola Peltz tattoos

EXCLUSIVE: Sources close to the Beckhams hit out at the influence Nicola Peltz has on Brooklyn as the family feud shows no sign of dying down amid ‘isolating’ claims

David and Victoria Beckham are desperately worried about their son Brooklyn’s “unhealthy” relationship with wife Nicola Peltz, pals claim.

Friends of the couple believe Nicola is “isolating” their son from not only them but his friends and extended family members. It comes as Brooklyn, 26, pointedly pledged his loyalty to his wife in a social media post, saying: “I always choose you, baby.”

Pals said it was “disappointing but unsurprising” if Brooklyn meant this as a dig at his family – as they laid the blame at his wife. The source added: “They feel Nicola is creating conflict that isn’t there – or at the very least ramping it up – in order to isolate Brooklyn from his family.

“Yes, Brooklyn is his own man…but Nicola is the one pulling the strings. It feels like she wants him to pick sides – and that’s what’s clearly happening.”

Sources close to Nicola have previously insisted that as an “outsider coming into the Beckham family…..she has helped Brooklyn see the emotional abuse and toxic behavior within his family.”

Her pals claim that Brooklyn and her both want “nothing more than to be loved and supported” but that “Victoria and David make that virtually impossible.”

    Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz

But friends of the Beckhams dispute this version of events. A source added: “First the feud was supposed to be over the fact that Romeo was dating someone Brooklyn had a so-called romantic liaison with….and then it changed to patently false and unpleasant accusations about David and Victoria’s parenting. The narrative keeps changing and the so-called reasons for Brooklyn not seeing his family keeps stacking up.”

Infatuated: Brooklyn Beckham posted a video of him and Nicola Peltz (Image: instagram.com/brooklynpeltzbeckham)

Brooklyn’s comments yesterday was the first time he had seemingly referred to the feud which became public after him and Nicola snubbed David’s 50th birthday celebrations.

He shared a video of the couple riding a motorbike through the palm-lined streets of southern California, with Nicola holding on to him. He captioned the post: “My whole world x I will love you forever x I always choose you baby x you’re the most amazing person I know xx me and you forever baby.”

The row later took a twist after Cruz, 20, appeared to hit back on social media at his brother by siding firmly with their parents. He posted an Instagram Story with a family photo, thanking David and Victoria for caring for the family “no matter what.”

He said: “I love my family, I love you guys more than anything, mum & dad you gave us life and cared for us no matter what, I cannot tell you how blessed we all are to have you in our lives x.”

Sources say friends of the Beckhams are particularly perturbed by the fact Brooklyn has more than 70 tattoos dedicated to Nicola – as well as members of her family inked on his body.

A source added: “I think anyone can see that’s problematic to say the least, and it’s another facet of an unhealthy relationship. But he is totally besotted.”

    Brooklyn Beckham

Among the tats, Brooklyn has a love letter from Nicola inked on his neck, with the note reading: ‘My forever boy. Read this anytime you feel anxious…

‘I want you to know how deeply loved you are. You have the kindest heart I’ve ever met and I hope I never go a day without your love.’

Brooklyn also had his wife’s late grandmother Gina’s name inked on his arm after she passed away in January 2020, and a prayer dedicated to Gina tattooed on his torso. He also has their wedding vows on his arm, ‘married’ on his hand, and Nicola’s eyes on the back of his neck. Brooklyn has previously said of his tattoos dedicated to his wife: “She always cries when I get her another tattoo, I always love to surprise her with new ink.’

The Mirror told at the weekend of the growing feud between both families.

Nicola’s friends say she spent three months with the Beckhams in 2020 trying her hardest to integrate into the family and doing her utmost to “have a healthy relationship.”

But stories emerged from Los Angeles of others having run-ins with Brooklyn’s wife. US hair colourist Justin Anderson, whose clients have included Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Aniston, worked with Nicola when she starred in Transformers early in her career.

Anderson called her “a monster” in a 2019 interview. The hair colourist said: “The worst of the worst of the worst was this one little diva girl, she was the new Transformers girl.

A source close to Nicola suggested the bad blood stemmed from their time together on the press tour for the Transformers film.

The source claimed that Justin got “distracted” and left bleach too long in her hair and that a new stylist was brought in.

Justin’s friends dispute that. One said: “Nicola knows that’s not the truth …she doesn’t want to open up that can of worms.”

Actress Bella Thorne also sparked a mystery after branding a mystery Hollywood star a “very, very mean girl”. Fans are now speculating she could have been talking about Nicola.

Thorne said: “It’s not I hate her because she’s a billionaire. I don’t like her because she is a billionaire and makes sure everyone knows that she is. I never say hello to her. Her siblings are not mean like she is, it’s just her. One of the reasons I don’t like her is because she’s been a billionaire since she was little and she’s never had to work for anything in her life.”

Bella’s comments came just a year after Nicola – who has seven siblings – starred in the 2014 independent film Affluenza opposite Greg Sulkin, who was Bella’s boyfriend at the time.

They added: “Strictly bosses are hoping he’ll get the dads watching. He has a massive following, especially with working-class blokes. He’s a huge football fan and enjoys pies and gravy. He’s not a luvvie at all.”

Thomas previously spoke out about appearing on Strictly and told MailOnline in 2019: “My mum loves it, she’d love me to do that.”

Tom is best known for being a food writer and restaurant critic. He’s also appeared as a judge on MasterChef several times.

“Top of their wishlist is MasterChef star Tom. His name was also sounded-out last year but never materialised. Bosses hope they’ll have better luck this year,” a source told The Mirror.

They continued: “It would be a coup to sign someone with such a strong royal link. Maybe we could see Camilla and King Charles in the audience?”

Craig told The Sun: “My agent is talking to all the reality shows. There’s definitely been a little bit of a rumble that I felt from some of them.

“We’ve spoken to Strictly and nothing’s happened yet, but talks are very much happening. Obviously, Strictly is the one that is gold standard.”

TV favourite Stacey Solomon is also rumoured to be taking part in Strictly this year.

It is believed she first caught the attention of bosses after she won an NTA for her BBC show Sort Your Life Out last year.

A source told The Sun: “Stacey is a hit with viewers thanks to her lovable personality. The BBC always want to showcase their own talent on Strictly, and Stacey’s show has already bagged them an NTA.

“Fans will also love watching her husband Joe Swash in the audience cheering her on every week.”

Stacey has even admitted in the past that she is “obsessed” with the show but confessed she has “two left feet”.

She told Metro in 2022: “I would never say never but I am a terrible dancer, an absolutely terrible dancer! I don’t know why but I have no rhythm when it comes to movement.”

She also shared: “But I am obsessed with it, I’m obsessed with the costumes. And also I would love to learn a new skill like that. I love learning anything to be honest.”

There’s huge scenes ahead next week on Coronation Street including a double exit, that could lead to a further departure, as well as some discoveries.

We will also see a comeback for one resident, a forbidden kiss and some big decisions to be made. First up next week it’s the big exit for Eileen Grimshaw, as actress Sue Cleaver bows out after 25 years.

Her final episodes on the ITV soap air next week as she decides to leave Weatherfield. She’s offered a great opportunity by her returning son Jason Grimshaw, played by Ryan Thomas, with him also set to leave again.

But will Eileen’s partner George Shuttleworth leave with them, or will they split for good? Amid Eileen still facing accusations over her sister Julie Carp’s recent death, an insurance scam mentioned in an article leaves her and George concerned.

Someone’s behind the article and they’re keen to find out who it was. Later on Jason suggests to his mother that she moves away with him to Thailand to be his business partner but what will she say?

We will also see a comeback for one resident, a forbidden kiss and some big decisions

She’s tempted but tells Jason George would never move to Thailand, while George soon informs her he’s prepared to move to Thailand and he’s booked them a holiday to test it out. A comment from Theo Silverton soon leaves Eileen making a decision, as George fears for his relationship.

An update from the police reveals the case into Julie’s death is closed, and with that she decides she’s going to take Jason up on his offer, invest in his bar and move to Thailand. With that Eileen says her goodbyes and leaves Weatherfield, but will George be joining her?

Before Jason goes, he manages to squeeze in a bit of romance and it’s with a familiar face. He chats up Danielle unaware she’s the wife of Theo, who Jason’s brother Todd is now seeing. When Danielle realises who Jason is she’s shocked, but will she spill the beans and what will she do next?

There’s trouble with Carl Webster next week too, and soon Tracy Barlow is flirting with him. Carl is continuing his dodgy dealings with Fiona, while their meeting leaves Abi Franklin clearly jealous despite her being married to Carl’s brother Kevin Webster.

Carl is soon flirting with Tracy once more and is trying to rile up Abi, who decides to issue Tracy a warning. Carl confronts her and accuses her of fancying him. Abi denies it and threatens to tell Kevin if he doesn’t back off, but she’s shocked when he leans in for a kiss – so how will she respond?

There’s also a return next week as Dylan Wilson is released from the STC. With that he’s making threats to former inmate Brody Michaelis, telling him he needs to watch out before following him to the ginnel.

When Brody starts on Betsy Swain, Dylan races to her rescue and it’s not long before things get heated. Elsewhere, Tim Metcalfe secretly plots a fostering meeting and as a social worker arrives, his wife Sally Metcalfe is stunned to realise what is going on.

Soon Sally is venting to Glenda Shuttleworth, revealing her worries that she and Tim are too old to foster. Finally next week Debbie Webster snaps when she gets into trouble at the shop amid her split from Ronnie Bailey. But when she sees him with Leanne Battersby later on she’s clearly hurt.

Kerry Katona has joked for Loose Women to enlist her as a panellist to add some ‘spice’ to the show amid ITV cuts which will see the long-running series on TV much less.

Kerry Katona has called for ITV to bring her onto daytime show Loose Women amid cuts across the channel, with the long-running show being cut back to a “seasonal” schedule of 30 weeks a year in cost-saving measures.

Alongside the scheduling change, nearly 220 staff members could lose their jobs across ITV ’s daytime schedule, affecting flagship shows like Loose Women, Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, and This Morning.

Giving her opinion on the broadcaster’s worrying shake-up, former singer Kerry, 44, wrote in her New! Magazine column: “So, ITV has announced big cuts, with Loose Women and Lorraine scaled back to just 30 weeks a year, which I think is a shame. But if I’m honest, I’m not completely surprised. I think in the modern world it can be difficult for shows like these to stay afloat.

“People don’t watch live TV like they used to. But saying that, things can always be revived. I’ve been around for many years and am still reinventing myself and coming back stronger, so I don’t think it’s the end for the shows. They need to get me on the Loose Women panel. I’d certainly add some spice!”

Kerry has appeared as a guest on Loose Women several times over the years, but never as a permanent panellist.

While Loose Women has taken a hit, morning chat show Lorraine, fronted by Lorraine Kelly, will see the most drastic changes. It’s to be reduced from an hour-long show to just 30 minutes and will go on-air for 30 weeks a year, rather than 52.

A spokesperson for ITV said of the latest move that it was not related to the performance of any of its shows, but about centralising its national news-gathering production in one place and investing resources into high-profile shows such as Mr Bates vs The Post Office and big sporting events like the football World Cup.

Last year there was already talk that ITV was tightening its belt and flagship daytime shows were reportedly in “crisis talks”.

    Kerry Katona

Denise Welch recently told the Mirror before the latest changes were announced, “When Loose Women first started, it was never a staple of the daytime schedules like it is now. It was on for three months, off for three months. Then another programme came along and notched it down to half an hour, which the racing still does – but we’ve got our place.”

The Waterloo Road actress added, “There’s life in these old girls yet. Older women’s voices are so important, and I’m very proud to be a part of a show that continues to celebrate that.”

Matt Baker is no stranger to an adventure. From vaulting over obstacles on Blue Peter to delving into topical discussions on The One Show and traversing landscapes in Countryfile, he’s become a staple of British television – equal parts charm, grit and gumboots.

Now, at 47, the presenter returns to our screens with Matt Baker’s British Isles on More4 – a four-part love letter to the UK’s landscapes and, more importantly, the people who shape them.

When he’s not on the road filming, Matt’s life is slower-paced, grounded in the routines of the farm life he shares with his wife Nicola and their two children, Luke and Molly.

The family now lives in Hertfordshire, but in 2021, they moved to the Durham Dales to help his mother, Janice, tend to the family farm during the pandemic.

It’s a rhythm he’s kept up – returning to embrace rural life in all its muddy, windswept glory. “There’s nothing quite like taking the dogs out, seeing the sheep and doing some DIY,” Matt says. “I love building things and getting messy.”

And Matt doesn’t mean the odd shelf or cupboard. From sheds to patios to entire barns – he’s tackled it all. “Right now, I’m building a pathway and some gardening beds,” he says, “I have loads of projects. Some are still resting. Growing up on a farm teaches you these things.”

For Matt, there’s another comfort in working with his hands. “I’m very practical because I’m dyslexic,” he says, “Reading isn’t really my thing. I prefer making things and painting.”

His diagnosis has shaped not only how he learns, but also how he connects. “I don’t know what it’s like to not have dyslexia,” he says. “When I was younger, I’ve never been more terrified than I was when asked to read aloud.

But he’s learned to live with his condition wholeheartedly. Even now, working on TV can throw curveballs. “When somebody throws a name in front of you on live TV, you have to read it,” he says, “But I just read what I think it says and hit it with confidence.”

Matt’s outlook is refreshingly grounded and inspiring. “I wouldn’t change a thing,” he says. “Being neurodivergent means you think differently. You keep telling yourself, ‘I’m ready for this. And you can. Dyslexia has taught me you can achieve anything.”

That same strength shines through in his new series, with Matt highlighting the small ways Brits contribute to the UK’s bustling life. “I’ve had many adventures around the UK and the world,” Matt says, “I’ve met incredible people in amazing places.” But this new series is perhaps his most personal yet.

Travelling from the Scottish Highlands to the white cliffs of Kent, and even the UK’s busiest train station in London, Matt marries his two great loves: the land and the communities that call it home.

“It’s the culmination of my experiences,” he says, “It’s a real reminder of the foundations that make Britain great and of what you can do if you set your mind to something.”

In Scotland, Matt met a self-taught mushroom grower whose fungi are now in demand by Michelin-starred chefs. In Newport, he visited a former Aston Martin factory turned heritage workshop – and lived out a childhood dream by sitting behind the wheel of James Bond’s car.

And the surprises kept coming – like the moment he was handed the whistle blown at the 1966 World Cup final. But it was the people who stole the show.

“The Aston Martin workshop used to be the original factory. The people working there use traditional techniques,” Matt says. “One woman got her job there after making a pair of curtains for someone’s caravan! It’s a wonderful story.”

Filming for the four-parter took place in the four corners of the UK, from Kent and Wales to the Scottish Highlands and Northern Ireland

It’s this blend of everyday magic and quiet heroism that gives the show its heartbeat. “People help others every day in our fast-paced world,” Matt says, “It was important for me to include what they do and how they dedicate their time to it. It’s what they deserve.”

Not that the filming came without challenges. In South Wales, Matt scaled a National Grid pylon – because of course he did. “I had to sit an exam and do a full training day at the National Grid Centre,” he says, “I wasn’t even allowed up if I didn’t.”

And yet, for all the breathtaking scenery and jaw-dropping feats, it’s the connections he made along the way that Matt treasures the most. In Mumbles, he met two brothers who unexpectedly inherited a pier.

“What a thing to inherit but also to have to do something in the future,” Matt says, “Those guys are great. But I’ve stayed in touch with most of them – everybody wants to know when the show is coming out!”

In Northern Ireland, Matt visited a carpet factory in Portadown – an experience that hit close to home. “As a sheep farmer, I really wanted to go to that factory, because of the connection it has to wool,” he says.

Looking ahead, Matt has no plans to slow down – but he’s become more intentional about how he spends his time. “When you get to a certain age, you start thinking about what really matters,” he says, “For me, that’s living better, being present and recharging from the fast-paced world. And preserving what’s special.”

With Matt Baker’s British Isles, he’s done exactly that – shining a light not only on the breathtaking beauty of Great Britain, but on the heart and soul of those who keep it running quietly every day.

  • Loose Women’s Katie Piper ‘never thought she’d make it to 40’ after devastating attack

Loose Women’s Katie Piper ‘never thought she’d make it to 40’ after devastating attack

Katie Piper has opened up about reaching her 40th birthday after falling victim to a horrific acid attack in 2008.

Katie Piper, the broadcaster and campaigner, has hit a milestone she never thought possible as she turns 40, reflecting on the harrowing events that nearly ended her life 17 years ago. Speaking to The Times, the Loose Women star expressed her astonishment at society’s negative views on women ageing, especially after surviving a life-threatening attack in her twenties.

“It was quite shocking for me, because turning 40 was only ever positive,” Piper remarked. “It was a celebration of my life and reaching a milestone I never thought I’d reach.” At the age of 24, Piper sustained severe injuries in an acid attack planned by her ex-partner, Daniel Lynch. Just two days following his brutal assault and rape, he had Stefan Sylvestre, then 19, douse her with sulphuric acid.

The assault resulted in extensive burns and irreversible damage for Piper, including the loss of her nose, part of her ear, eyelids, and partial sight in one eye. She underwent treatment at a specialist burns unit in London, where she received groundbreaking reconstructive surgery, including the UK’s inaugural use of a synthetic skin substitute to restore her face.

Piper also needed multiple surgeries for her mouth and tongue. Despite the gravity of her injuries, she has carved out a notable career in broadcasting and as a spokesperson.

Following the attack, Katie Piper chose to give up her right to anonymity, recounting her story in the Channel 4 documentary Katie: My Beautiful Face, which brought widespread attention to acid attacks nationwide.

In 2009, Piper founded The Katie Piper Foundation, providing support to burns survivors through rehabilitation and care. Her dedication was acknowledged in 2022 when she received an OBE for her charitable work with victims of burns and other disfigurements.

She became a panellist on ITV’s Loose Women in 2021 and had previously participated in Strictly Come Dancing in 2018. Piper has also authored a best-selling autobiography, using her platform to highlight visible differences and resilience.

Although Piper acknowledged that her public profile originated from the attack, she stressed that she doesn’t want her accomplishments to be defined solely by it.

“It’s not like I’m an actress or a pop star,” she said. “I came to public attention as a news story, as a victim of a violent crime. I hope, 17 years on, I’m doing something different, but I think it’s probably unfair of me to say, ‘I don’t want to talk about the burns and the attack anymore.’”

She added: “I think it’s more that I don’t want to attribute my success [since] to that man’s actions against me.”

Following her recovery, Piper married carpenter Richard Sutton, and they have two daughters, Belle, 11, and Penelope, 7. The couple had aspirations for a third child but had to reconsider after Piper underwent urgent eye surgery.

Daniel Lynch was found guilty of rape, grievous bodily harm, and actual bodily harm, and was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 16 years. Sylvestre was given a life sentence with a minimum of six years and was released in 2018 after serving nine years.

Lynch is due to appear before a parole board next month.

Piper continues her advocacy for better understanding and support for those living with visible differences and remains dedicated to using her platform to promote greater inclusivity and resilience in public life

Victoria Beckham shares sweet Brooklyn photo amidst tense family feud

Amid an escalating ‘feud’, Victoria has shown Brooklyn the door is still open for him to join the family, after sharing a sweet photo of her clan in which she tagged her estranged eldest son

Victoria Beckham shared a bittersweet throwback photo of her family to mark her dad’s birthday, including her currently estranged son, Brooklyn. Amid an escalating feud between the family and 26-year-old Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz, the old snap showed her brood in happier times.

The sweet photos were shared by the 51-year-old mum-of-four to mark her dad Tony’s birthday. Posting on Instagram Stories, Victoria shared a photo of herself as a teenager posing with her dad, writing: “Happy birthday,y Daddy, I love you so much!”

The second share saw her post a photo of her kids with their grandad, with Victoria adding: “The best papa in the world!” She tagged all her children, notably including Brooklyn, who has been absent from any family events for months, as rumours of a bitter rift continue to swirl.

She shared another of her family, and a fourth showing her mum, Jackie, smiling for a photo with David and Tony. The post adds to the notion that Victoria and David still want contact with their son, but there is still a question mark over the cause of Brooklyn’s disengagement with his family.

Some are starting to question whether his wife Nicola Peltz, 31, has had a part in ostracising him from his family. According to a body language expert, she has been “actively distancing” herself from the Beckhams for months.

Their final photo together was taken over Christmas, with Judi James suggesting there were already signs of some sort of tension. The sweet snap appeared to show the family enjoying the festive season together.

But speaking to the Mail, Judi explained how there could have been more at play. She told the paper: “Nicola’s smile here looks charming and her pose is a mirrored version of Victoria’s, but it has seemed as though she might have been actively distancing herself (and Brooklyn) from the Beckham clan.

“It is not an unusual step for new wives hoping to encourage a husband to stand on his own feet rather than being overly dependent on his parents. This line-up might be a reflection of that distancing,g although in the past it has been her and Brooklyn sitting apart from his parents, while here he poses apart from his wife, which could have added to any tension.”

The ongoing feud has seen the family’s eldest son miss out on family occasions, including his dad David’s 50th birthday celebrations at the start of the month. When photos emerged, it became clear that the 26-year-old had been missing from David’s big day, which saw the family plan a series of lavish dos to celebrate the former England footballer’s birthday

A star-studded bash at the family’s Cotswolds home saw reams of David’s family and friends show up to mark the occasion with him. The family then jetted off to a wine-tasting afternoon at a vineyard in the south of France, before heading to Paris for a quiet dinner on the night of his birthday in one of his favourite restaurants.

The next day, the Beckham’s put on a dinner party at Core by Clare Smyth – a restaurant in London’s Notting Hill. The Michelin starred diner then welcomed some A List guests, including Tom Cruise, Eva Longoria and Gordon Ramsay, with the party going on into the early hours.
