Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha says ‘I could be let go tomorrow’ as she sobs over ITV cuts

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha broke down in tears as she discussed the recent daytime cuts on ITV and admitted her own fears about being axed

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha has broken rank to openly discuss the ITV daytime cuts. The presenter said she is devastated for her colleagues being made redundant and admits she fears her own exit from the programme.

The ITV programme will be cut to just 30 weeks of the year and the team behind Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will all be merged, which will lead to redundancies at ITV. Lorraine Kelly’s show is also being cut to 30 minutes and will air 30 weeks of the year. As a result, Good Morning Britain will be extended until 9.30am each day.

The stars of Loose Women have not yet spoken out about the cuts, with sources claiming that there is much chaos backstage at ITV – but now Nadia has broken rank to discuss the cuts for the first time.

In her latest YouTube video, she said: “Do you know what, at the moment, all of us on screen are in work and are proud of what we do. But behind the scenes there are people that are really suffering, and what you don’t realise is when you attack the show you attack them, because you never see all the army of people behind the scenes and how hard they work.

“So to all my friends and colleagues behind the scenes who have just got a huge shock out of the blue, I’m so sorry. Mark knows how upset I’ve been at home about it. I just can’t bear it. So just be f*****g kind to people.”

She then added: “What people don’t realise at Loose Women is that we’re self-employed, I am self-employed. Every contract is a new contract. I could be let go tomorrow, in five years, you don’t know because we’re not employees. So I can’t tell you anything accept I am on for my next contract. What has been brutal over the past week and I am getting tearful about it, is that hundreds of people are going to be made redundant out of the blue.

    Nadia was emotional

“A lot of my friends and colleagues have been there for decades and I cannot tell you how upsetting it was to see people walking around numb with shock and fear about what they are going to do. That has been so awful. It has been worse than whatever trolls have been saying about our show that we feel really protective of.”

However, sources have denied any radical changes would be happening. A source told The Mirror: “We are not planning any radical changes to the panel. All of our Loose Women are hugely valued and we celebrate each and every one and the experience and opinions they bring to the show every day.

“Many of our long standing panellists have appeared on the show for the majority of its 25 year run on screens and those stalwart, Loose legends are at the core of the show’s success and hugely popular with the audience. The show remains a big priority within our daytime slate, having secured a BAFTA nomination, launched a podcast and celebrated a milestone anniversary in the last year alone.”

Kevin Lygo, managing director of ITV’s Media and Entertainment Division, has insisted the proposed changes would “generate savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres”.

He said: “These changes also allow us to consolidate our news operations and expand our national, international and regional news output and to build upon our proud history of trusted journalism at a time when our viewers need accurate, unbiased news coverage more than ever.” Other changes at ITV include moving the soaps – Emmerdale and Coronation Street – to half an hour each weekday, meaning soap fan swill lose a total of an hour of soaps every week.

Karen Hauer addresses Kevin Clifton ‘cheating’ allegations: ‘A grenade went off’

Karen and Kevin were married for three years

Strictly Come Dancing star Karen Hauer has addressed her “tough” marriage split from Kevin Clifton, and has opened up on cheating allegations that surrounded them at the time.

Karen, who has been confirmed to be returning to the dance floor this year, has opened up on why her and co-star Kevin’s marriage came to an end. The former couple were married for three years from 2015 to 2018 until they suddenly split.

But today (May 27) Karen has finally opened up on what exactly happened between them. And why their breakup seemed so sudden to the public eye.

Karen Hauer shuts down allegations she cheated on Kevin

Speaking on Paul Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast, Karen admitted that their split “hurt” because she always thought they “belonged together”.

Karen explained that Kevin – who has been married twice and is now dating Stacey Dooley – ended the relationship after he saw paparazzi pictures of her with another man. But in reality, Karen admitted she and Kevin weren’t really together at that point.

Speaking about their breakup, she explained: “I felt that he distanced himself from me. But I was probably doing the same. We both weren’t talking about it. It took about a year behind the scenes. But in front of the scenes, everything was good.

There was a big misunderstanding because I was waiting to be loved.

“We fell apart. And me not knowing what was happening in his mind – I knew I would have worked on it and stayed. But I couldn’t be with someone who wasn’t sure if they wanted to be with me or not.”

But while Karen was waiting for something to change, she met someone else. At the time, Karen was then accused of cheating on Kevin. And the pair split not long after. But she has revealed that she didn’t cheat on him. And in reality, she and Kevin weren’t properly together by that point.

She said: “I met someone. We [Kevin and her] weren’t together. But we were together in the public eye. So I met someone. But I wasn’t in a relationship with this person, I only met them a couple of times. But I got snapped up.

“I was portrayed as someone that cheated on him and he saw the pictures. But there was a big misunderstanding because I was waiting to be loved.”

Karen and Kevin split not long after the pictures

However, these pap pictures were the catalyst of Karen and Kevin’s marriage breakdown. Karen admitted that as soon as he saw the photos, he ended their relationship. And Karen didn’t try to stop him, because it had been heading in that direction for a while.

Karen admitted: “He just wanted a divorce and I didn’t fight him. Something had to happen in order for him to make a decision because I wasn’t going to pull the plug. Then I tripped and a grenade went off.

“We were both in a very tough place. I could see that he didn’t want to let go but that didn’t give him any choice. He had to do the right thing for himself.”

Despite their public breakup, the pair went on to continue dancing together on Strictly until his exit in 2020.

As for how they continued together, Karen admitted they will always have “respect” for each other. But in the end they couldn’t “transfer” their emotions on the dance floor to their marriage.

Since their breakup, Karen has went on to get married to Jordan Wynn-Jones in 2022. Kevin has been in a relationship with Stacey Dooley since 2019, although they aren’t yet married

Roman Kemp reveals accident where car ‘smashed’ into his bike

While talking about riding bikes with Tom, Roman admitted he has seen “some wild celebrities” riding bikes. He name-dropped US star Frank Ocean and British comedian Richard Ayoade.

However, the conversation took a shocking turn when Roman revealed he had been “hit” off his bike before.

Detailing the traumatic story, Roman said he was on the way to work in the morning to host his Capital FM breakfast show job, which he left behind in March 2024.

Due to the show starting early, Roman admitted the roads were usually “completely clear.” He added: “I’m cycling in and I get to a roundabout near Lambeth Bridge. As I got off, not gonna lie, I just went through the roundabout, bosch. But I haven’t seen this car, and this car is going fast. Like, literally coming fast. They were coming from my right-hand side, and it came out of nowhere.”

“I checked left and right. All of a sudden, this car’s come out and SMASH! [They] smashed into my back wheel and I’ve gone over the handlebars.”

Roman continued: “Thank god I was wearing a helmet. Thank god!”

    ‘It was mental’

The former radio host said he was left in “so much shock” and stated the driver just drove off and left him.

Roman shared: “I’m there, face down on the roundabout. I get up, and I’m in such a daze. I get back up on my bike and I cycle to work, and as I’m pulling up to work, I’ve not realised the whole time, my handlebars are facing completely the wrong way, [the] wheels all completely bent up. It was mental.”

The former I’m A Celeb star went ahead and hosted his radio show, but admitted he was left in “shock”.

  • Katie Piper shows off her new glass eye in remarkable before and after shots after travelling to Hamburg for pioneering treatment

Katie Piper shows off her new glass eye in remarkable before and after shots after travelling to Hamburg for pioneering treatment

Katie Piper revealed she was ‘entering a new era’ on Wednesday after travelling to Germany for pioneering cosmetic treatment on her defective eye.

The TV presenter was left with devastating facial injuries in 2008 following a sulphuric acid attack orchestrated by former boyfriend Daniel Lynch and carried out by his accomplice Stefan Sylvestre.

She has since undergone numerous painstaking surgical procedures, including treatment to break down her extensive scar tissue and reduce skin contraction.

Travelling to Hamburg for her latest, Piper, 41, visited the Institute for Artificial Eyes – a new, family owned business devoted to the provision of glass and plastic eye prostheses.

Taking to Instagram, the presenter – who was accompanied by husband Richard Sutton – shared a highlights reels of her trip, including before and after shots of her eye, both with and without its glass prosthesis.

Evidently delighted with the results, Piper praised the clinic and its pioneering work in an Instagram post, with the accompanying caption: ‘Entering a new era. Feeling empowered by the delicate and meticulous work by The Weinder Brothers on my new glass prosthetic eye shell.’

According to its website, the Weinder owned clinic endeavours to ‘restore facial harmony’ and aid the patient’s patient’s ‘physical and psychological rehabilitation’ by crafting and fitting each prosthesis based on the individual’s wants and needs.

Piper’s recent trip to Hamburg comes after she admitted to giving up her dream of having a third child because of an emergency operation.

The presenter claimed said spending time jailed mums in New Orleans Parish Prison while filming TV show Locked Up made her want to try for a third baby, after hearing heartbreaking stories from lags who were missing their children.

She told The Mirror: ‘It started to make me think, ‘This is my last chance to have another baby, I’m going to be 40. And if I don’t do it now, I never will.’

Piper had to go under general anaesthetic for the operation on her left eye – which was damaged in a horrific acid attack in 2008, orchestrated by a man she briefly dated.

‘I had to have a general anaesthetic and you can’t be trying for a baby and also be having unexpected surgeries,’ she explained.

‘So that scuppered that and we had a break. We tried again, but it just didn’t happen.’

Piper considered IVF, but after enduring over 250 operations since the 2008 acid attack, she couldn’t face more hospital appointments or the emotional toll if it didn’t work, so reluctantly gave up the dream of having a third child.

However, she still felt something was missing, so, started volunteering at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, where she adopted a puppy.

She began volunteering and dog walking while still trying for a baby, and the decision to get a dog came naturally.

She added that her friend Alison helped her to pick the right dog for her family – a female half cockapoo puppy called Sugar with a calm temperament.

Piper’s life was changed forever when she was attacked with acid aged just 24 back in 2008 her ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch and accomplice Stefan Sylvestre in 2008.

The presenter, who had been dating Daniel for just two weeks, was brutally raped by the steroid-fuelled martial arts expert in a hotel room when she tried to leave their relationship in March that year.

She is a mother to two daughters – Belle, 11, and Penelope, seven – with husband Richard, who she married in 2015.

Loose Women star Brenda Edwards ‘pushing’ to get on Strictly Come Dancing

    ‘I’m pushing all avenues’

Loose Women star Brenda Edwards has revealed she is eager to sign up for Strictly Come Dancing this year.

Brenda rose to fame on The X Factor in 2005 and finished in third place. She has since carved out a successful career in television and on stage, where she has starred in many musicals.

However, she has sights set higher, and it appears her co-star Coleen Nolan does too.

Loose Women star Brenda Edwards wants to do Strictly Come Dancing

Currently, Brenda is enjoying a stint in the West End for Chicago alongside Janette Manrara, who used to be a pro dancer on the hit BBC show. Now, Janette hosts Strictly’s spin-off programme, It Takes Two, alongside Fleur East.

In a new interview, Brenda has admitted she really wants to do Strictly this year and has asked Janette to “put in a good word for me”.

“Don’t worry, I’m pushing all avenues. If I get on Strictly, I’ll have to start practising my splits. I want to do it!” she told Best magazine.

However, fellow Loose Women panelist Coleen has also been very vocal about wanting to sign up, and Brenda is fully aware.

“It’s between Coleen Nolan and me, because she really wants to go on it also,” she added.

    ‘I am addicted to it’

During an episode of Loose Women last year, Nolans singer Coleen confessed her love for Strictly, and her desire to take part one day.

“I am addicted to it, I am every single year,” she stated.

“I cannot miss it, I love it just as much this series as I have every other series. I’m a big fan, I think they’ve got the whole balance right,” Coleen continued.

“Am I creeping enough about Strictly?” she added, heavily implying she would love to join the upcoming 2025 series.

While no Strictly lineup has been confirmed for this year, former Corrie star Helen Flanagan exclusively revealed to ED! that she would love to join after previously turning the show down

  • Inside Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice’s fractured friendship – and all the signs they’re still feuding

Inside Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice’s fractured friendship – and all the signs they’re still feuding

Rose and Giovanni formed a close bond after Strictly

Code of Silence star Rose Ayling-Ellis was once firm friends with her Strictly dance partner Giovanni Pernice.

However, it all appeared to come crashing down for the pair during the BBC’s investigation into his alleged behaviour behind the scenes on the hit dance show.

Now, months after the inquiry came to an end, with Giovanni cleared of the majority of complaints against him, he and Rose still haven’t been seen together. They haven’t liked one another’s posts on social media, either.

So what is going on with the one-time Strictly sweethearts

Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice smiling

Strictly star Rose Ayling-Ellis hasn’t spoken out in support of Giovanni Pernice

Rose and Giovanni won the hearts of the nation after winning the glitterball trophy in 2021. She became the first deaf contestant to win the hit BBC show.

Following their time on the show, the pair proved to have a close bond and regularly met up with one another and supported each other on social media. She even appeared on his travel show with Anton Du Beke.

However, since the complaints about Giovanni’s behaviour, Rose seems to have been avoiding Giovanni.

After Amanda Abbington came forward and raised concerns about the Italian dancer’s behaviour, the likes of Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke jumped to his defense. However, Rose remained silent on the subject and still hasn’t publicly said a thing about the investigation – even after it wrapped.

    Gio stays silent, too

It works both ways, though. Giovanni has also been silent when it comes to Rose.

In May 2024, the former EastEnders star announced she had secured herself a role in the series Reunion for the BBC. It was her first major role since leaving the soap.

“I’m so excited to be joining William Mager’s Reunion and to be working alongside such a talented cast, whose work I have long admired. It is a very special project and an important moment for the deaf community’s representation on TV,” Rose told her Instagram followers.

In the comments section, one user wrote: “Well done Rose, Giovanni be proud of you for sure.”

That said, while Rose and Giovanni both still follow each other, Giovanni did not show any support by liking or commenting on the post.

In fact, it’s been many months since they have interacted with one another on social media.

    Final show of support

Back in May 2024, Giovanni reached out with his last public show of support for Rose.

She uploaded a heartfelt post about news headlines over a “cure” for deafness. Clearly upset, Gio reached out to Rose, hitting the like button on the post.

The post was shared on May 9 and marks the last public interaction between the pair – now more than a year ago.

Of course, on May 17, the BBC announced it would be launching an investigation into the allegations surrounding Giovanni.

Since then, Giovanni has won the Italian version of Strictly – and Rose hasn’t liked any of those posts. Rose has also been starring in the critically-acclaimed Code of Silence on ITV1 . And Giovanni hasn’t liked or commented on any of those. Many other stars from Rose’s Strictly year have, though.

Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice smiling

‘Rose is finding the whole situation really tough’

While Rose’s experience with Giovanni didn’t appear to be negative, an inside source alleged to The Sun last year that she was finding the allegations against him hard to deal with.

“Rose is finding the whole situation really tough. She had a really great experience with Gio so is really shocked by it all,” they claimed.

They added: “She of course believes what others are saying. But she is just trying to not get involved. She won’t be speaking about it publicly.”

    Missing from 20th anniversary celebrations

As the first-ever deaf participant and winner of Strictly Come Dancing, Rose has reserved her place in glitterball history. However, when it came to celebrating the 20th anniversary of the show, she was nowhere to be seen.

It was reported at the time this was because she didn’t want to discuss her time on the show with Giovanni.

A source said at the time: “Rose loved her time on the show. But didn’t want to discuss her time with Giovanni. She’s chosen not to speak about him and Amanda publicly.”

However, months after he was cleared of the majority of the complaints levelled at him, Rose has still maintained her silence. So is their friendship broken for good? Only time will tell, we guess…

Dannii Minogue reignites Sharon Osbourne and Graham Norton feud after being ‘torn to pieces’

Dannii Minogue was mocked by former X Factor judge, Sharon Osbourne, and Graham Norton on the Irishman’s show in an interview, which Dannii said ‘tore her to pieces’

Dannii Minogue has reignited her feud with Sharon Osbourne and Graham Norton after accusing the pair of ‘tearing her to pieces’ on TV. The Aussie, 53, was mocked on Graham’s BBC chat show in 2007, with former X Factor judge, Sharon, 72, claiming working with Dannii on the iconic ITV talent series was an “odious chore”.

Host, Graham, who has interviewed a number of high-profile stars in his career, claimed the mum-of-one ‘looked bizarre’ while also mocking her accent. Adding further fuel to the fire, Osbourne matriarch, Sharon, stood up and pointed to her behind and said “look at this” when Buffy star, David Boreanaz, asked to see a photo of the Under Pressure star.

    Sharon Osbourne
Dannii Minogue was mocked by former X Factor judge, Sharon Osbourne, and Graham Norton in 2007(Image: Youtube)

Revisiting the uncomfortable scenes on the podcast, How to Fail With Elizabeth Day, Dannii claims the show on BBC “would never be made today”. Claiming the pair had ‘torn her to pieces’, she said she believed Graham had set up the ‘cruel’ questions in advance, saying: “I think the difference was it wasn’t being rude. There had to be production meetings to set up the things that they were doing on set in this show and these huge personalities that I looked up to and just loved what they had done.”

Dannii continued: “I’d loved Sharon Osbourne on X Factor. I’d love her on the Osborne’s. I loved what Graham Norton was doing, and here were these people just tearing me to pieces. That show would never be made today.”

Dannii and Sharon have had a long-running feud ever since they started working on the X Factor together. After Dannii was rumoured to have been dating show boss, Simon Cowell, Sharon told Piers Morgan she couldn’t stand the younger sister of pop superstar, Kylie Minogue.

    Graham Norton
Graham poked fun at Dannii’s accent(Image: BBC)

Lifting the lid on their fractious relationship on the Life Stories show, she said: “I didn’t hate her because hatred is very close to love and takes a lot of emotion and I don’t have that time for her. She was like an insect, a mosquito that wouldn’t go away.”

Meanwhile, in Sharon’s autobiography Unbreakable, she openly accused Dannii of having it off with Simon. “She had an uppity attitude as she was f***ing the boss,” Sharon wrote. “She clearly felt sh***ing Simon gave her vicarious power and it was so immature, not to mention deeply irritating to deal with.”

Countering, Dannii compared Sharon to a ‘school bully’, writing in her autobiography, Dannii: My Story: “When I sat on the judging panel next to Sharon each Saturday, having seen her publicly destroy me on yet another television show or press interview that week, I felt as if I was back at primary school when I was forced to sit next to the school bully.

    Sharon Osbourne and Dannii Minogue

“Over the course of the next year, Sharon announced to anyone who would listen that I was impossible to work with (but never explained why); that I was only on The X Factor because of my looks, not any visible talent or contribution to the entertainment industry; and Simon employed me only because he wanted to sleep with me.”

But, clapping back, Sharon took a direct swipe at Dannii in an interview with Best Magazine a few months later, claiming that the singer had an issue with her due to her strong character – and suggested Dannii is a ‘flirt’ and gets on better with men. “We just have nothing in common,” she swiped, adding: “I love women but there are some who don’t love other women. Dannii didn’t care for me.”

  • Paul Danan found dead on sofa by friends with TV still on, tragic inquest reveals

Paul Danan found dead on sofa by friends with TV still on, tragic inquest reveals

An inquest has heard details of Celebrity Big Brother star Paul Danan’s tragic death after he was found dead at his home in Bristol earlier this year

Paul Danan’s friend found the telly icon dead on his sofa, it has been confirmed. Paul, 46, was found unresponsive at his home in Bristol on January 15. The late star, who was known for appearing on Celebrity Big Brother, Celebrity Love Island and starring as Sol Patrick on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, died from a cocktail of drugs, including cocaine and heroin.

The inquest heard that friends of Paul raised the alarm after not seeing him. They could not get hold of him for two days before he died, so got a ladder to look through an open window, and a neighbour entered to find him.

There he found Paul, dead sitting slumped at the edge of his sofa, with the television still on. Before the accidental overdose, in May 2024, a GP received a letter telling him Paul had suffered a non-intentional overdose and spent a period of time in intensive care. He left with a plan to use methadone but often reported repeated use of crack cocaine and heroin. Paul reported he had no intention to end his life and the overdose was accidental.

After the overdose he moved into his parents home for support while he tried to kick his habit. In August, 2024, he told a GP he had thoughts of “suicidal ideation” but had no intentions of acting upon them. He was put under psychological care in the community but asked to be signed off work because he was not well.

Neighbour Melissa Crooks was the last person to see him two days before he died and that he had not checked WhatsApp since the time she left his flat. Paul’s mum, Beverley Danan, paid tribute to her son saying: “Paul helped so many people from all walks of life but just could not help himself in the same way.” She added: “His smiling face and love for life will always be remembered.”

Coroner Debbie Rrooked recorded a conclusion of misadventure. She told the coroner’s court in Bristol: “I do not have any evidence before me that Paul planned to take his own life.”

An inquest into his death was held at Avon Coroner’s Court in Bristol. “The circumstances are that Mr Danan was found unresponsive at his home address,” said Alexis Camp from the coroner’s office. Camp added: “Emergency services attended and confirmed he had sadly died. A post-mortem has taken place and samples have been removed for further analysis. No note was left.”

A court had previously heard that Danan’s provisional cause of death was the combined toxicity of heroin, methadone, codeine, cocaine, zopiclone and pregabalin, contributed to by benzodiazepine use. The inquest continued before Assistant Coroner Deborah Rookes.

It was listed as a read-inquest, meaning evidence was more than likely to be given in the form of written statements, rather than verbal evidence from witnesses. One day after his death, Danan was due to appear at a plea hearing at Warrington Magistrates’ Court after being charged with possession of cocaine and cannabis, according to court documents.

He was also accused of driving whilst under the influence of drugs on October 2 last year, in Warrington, Cheshire. The actor had been open about his struggles with addiction, and had previously entered rehab in a bid to recover.

In 2017, Danan took part in Channel 5’s Celebrity Big Brother, when he was evicted early, and said at the time he hoped the series would give him a “second chance” at his career. He regularly called for his return to Hollyoaks and later began the podcast The Morning After With Paul Danan, which lasted from 2019 until 2023.

In 2020, he started a drama workshop, Morning After Drama, which grew from online sessions during the pandemic to workshops in London, Oxford and the South West. His other appearances included on E4’s Celebrity Coach Trip and Channel 4 sketch comedy programme The Kevin Bishop Show.

Danan discussed his substance abuse and recovery on ITV’s The Jeremy Kyle Show in 2019, which he said began when he was a teenager. He said he had to “work hard at it every day to keep in recovery”.

In 2010, he pleaded guilty to drugs and public order offences and was fined £350 and referred to a drugs agency for support by Stevenage Magistrates’ Court. Content creator Princess Andre has announced that she’s got her first car just weeks after passing her driving test. She has been met with support after sharing photos of it earlier, though they sparked concern among some fans.

Princess, 17, showcased her white Audi on Instagram this afternoon. She was seen holding the keys whilst beside the vehicle in two photos on the platform and, beside an emoji of a car, she wrote in the caption: “I bought my first car.” Her post now has more than 50,000 likes and Princess – whose parents are Katie Price and Peter Andre – received well wishes in the comments section. Fans congratulated her and there were compliments about her new car.

Some people expressed concern over the PRINCESS registration plate that was visible in the photos though. A number of fans however have pointed out that it isn’t a real number plate, with it covering the actual one in the photos.

Sharing their concern, one person responded to the post: “I love this but why would you show and have that number plate? Target for every a******e and nutter out there!” Another said: “Well done be careful with that plate people recognising it will keep following be safe always.”

A third wrote in their reply to Princess’ post: “Beautiful car but I’d be a bit scared on my own with ur plate in this mad world.” They weren’t alone in expressing concern.

Another person reacted to the post: “It’s beautiful Princess. Just be safe love, Drive careful. I do think the number plate gives boys a heads up to follow you though. Just be careful and your be fine. Enjoy after all your hard work.”

Amid the concern, a number of people reacted by sharing that Princess wasn’t showing her actual registration plate. Addressing the situation, one fan wrote in the comments: “It’s a show plate, you can see the real one behind.”

Another follower said: “It’s actually covering up the real plate.” Someone else reacted to the attention that the plate in the photo had received: “The amount of people thinking this is her actual plate.” They included a facepalm emoji.

Elsewhere in the comments section, Princess was met with support over the news. One fan wrote: “Yay!!! So happy for you Princess! Well done.” Another said: “Congratulations and be safe.” Someone else wrote: “Love it! Well done.”

Princess’ step-mother Emily Andre, 35, who has been married to Peter, 52, since 2015, was among those who reacted to the post this evening. Alongside flame and heart emojis, Emily wrote to Princess in a comment: “Yay”.

There’s also been reaction from Princess’ mother Katie, 47, who shared her daughter’s post on her Instagram Story. She wrote in the caption: “So proud and so scared at the same time my baby girl turns 18 next month too so lots of exciting things we will be doing together.”

King Charles cancer update as palace aides set record straight on Donald Trump warning

King Charles received the ‘warmest of welcomes’ during his two-day visit to Canada as head of state and is now ‘very much looking forward’ to the next stage of his reign as he continues cancer treatment

King Charles is celebrating completing a list of “firsts” following his visit to Canada and is now focusing on the “next stage of his reign”, senior palace sources have revealed.

The monarch – who is also head of state of Canada – used his historic visit to open parliament on Tuesday and pledge his support for the country. Charles declared Canada “strong and free” amid an escalation of threats from US President Donald Trump that its North American neighbour should become the 51st state of America.

Charles’s whistlestop visit, where he and Queen Camilla spent just 24 hours in the country over two days this week, was his first trip to the country as monarch. Our palace source says Charles is now “very much looking forward” to the next stage of his reign, which is continuing at pace despite his cancer diagnosis last February, they added.

The King, 76, is now “used to living with cancer” while he continues his weekly treatment for the disease. Encouragingly, senior aides say he is feeling well and up to the task as he continues his pathway.

The source added: “The thing you learn about this illness [cancer] is that you just manage it. And that’s what he does. Medical science has made incredible advances and I genuinely see no difference in him.

“As long as you just do what the doctors say, just live your life as normal as possible… [and] that’s exactly what he is doing. It’s no secret that he is still having treatment but because he is incredibly fit, he is just dealing with it all incredibly well.”

Buckingham Palace made no secret of its delight at the reception the King and Queen received on the ground in Canada. Aides suggested the royals are keen to return in the future for a “full schedule royal tour” to celebrate the nation at large, which is historically considered to be the “senior realm” of the 14 other countries where Charles is sovereign.

The visit concluded a list of “first achievements” set by Charles when he acceded the throne in September 2022, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The list included his return to London, following his mother’s passing, his first address to the nation, his first visit to the four nations of the United Kingdom, his first Christmas message, first visit to a realm – which was Australia last October and finally a visit to Canada as the senior realm.

One senior royal aide said: “I think the King was very touched (from the reception in Canada). To go to a realm of which you are King, but in which you don’t actually live, is a big thing when you do it for the first time, as we saw in both Australia and now Canada.

“It is a reset of that relationship, and for Their Majesties to see so many people turn out and to be so thrilled to see them was fantastic. As The King put it in his departure message that came straight from the heart: ‘it was the warmest of welcomes and the fondest of returns to a nation and a people we love’.”

From the Senate throne in Ottawa, the King said Canada faced a “critical moment” in its history, referencing the unity of the monarchy and country at a time when its sovereignty is under threat. Senior palace sources said the King wanted his address, the first in the chamber from a British monarch since 1957, to be “thought provoking, not provocative”, and was encouraged at the reception from Canadians across the political and social divides.

Charles’ rallying cry urged Canadians to use the opportunity of “the drastically changing world “to think big and to act bigger”. Our source added: “It’s all about commending what is positive. And that’s what the sovereign does, it’s not the sovereign’s job to start pointing fingers.

“What the king was able to do was show very strong support for Canada and what would be the point of being King of Canada if you didn’t show support?”

Donald Trump continued his war of words with Canada yesterday, doubling down on his position that it could become the “51st State” , even claiming Canada was considering the offer. Writing on social media, the US president said if Canada becomes the “cherished 51st State” it would not have to pay to join his future Golden Dome missile programme.

Trump added: “It will cost $61 Billion Dollars if they remain a separate, but unequal, Nation, but will cost ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st State. They are considering the offer!”
