Coleen Nolan’s bittersweet 60th as she battles with her desperate grief and fear of a grim future

Loose Women star and Daily Mirror Columnist Coleen Nolan reveals her one big fear as she enters a brand new decade – just two months after big sister Linda passed away

Loose Women star and Daily Mirror agony aunt Coleen Nolan turns the big 6-0 on Wednesday – and there’s only one thing she’s in the mood for…. Yes, that’s right – dancing.

For while it’s just two months since she lost Linda, Coleen knows her big sister would have insisted on her doing what The Nolans do best as she hits the landmark day.

“It does feel weird that I’m turning 60 so soon after losing Linda,” Coleen exclusively tells the Mirror, after throwing a big London bash for her colleagues and family. “[But] parties were her thing, so she would have insisted on some kind of celebration that involved music and dancing.”

It was two months ago that fellow Mirror columnist Linda, 65, passed away from double pneumonia following a 20-year cancer ordeal. It came 12 years after the Nolans lost sister Bernie aged 52 to the same disease. So while some might fear entering a new landmark decade, Coleen just appreciates she’s one of the luckier ones

“Milestone birthdays can have a funny effect on people,” she says. “For some, turning 60 might feel a bit depressing – let’s be honest, it’s starting to feel quite close to pension age, whatever that is these days!

“But I’m just incredibly grateful to get the chance to celebrate another year and I feel blessed that I’m still doing work that I love.”

Coleen was born in Blackpool after her family moved here from Ireland – and joined the Nolan Sisters, aged just nine, in 1974. The band, which later changed its name to The Nolans, sold more than 30million records worldwide, before the sisters moved into careers on TV, with Coleen ultimately joining Loose Women in 2000 and enjoying stints on reality hits such as Dancing On Ice and Celebrity Big Brother.

She’s been less lucky in love however after divorcing the father of her two boys, Shane Richie and the father of her daughter Ciara, Ray Fensome. And in the days leading up to her big birthday, Coleen admits she began to fear the fact that she was entering a new decade alone having split with her boyfriend-of-two-years Michael Jones in December.

“[I’m] turning 60 as a single woman and, while that’s right for me at this stage, I did have a moment this week of feeling a little sad that I might not get to love again,” Coleen confesses. Her biggest fear is not meeting another Mr Right, after realising how few eligible men she crosses path with in her day-to-day life.

“I love being in love and being loved, and I feel I still have a lot to give in that department,” she says. “But I won’t be doing the dating app thing again – if I do meet someone it’ll be through fate or friends, although I can’t really imagine it, as the only guys I meet in my industry are either too young, married or gay!”

But Coleen is never one to look on the negative side for too long.

“When I look back on the past 60 years, I feel proud that I’ve come so far on my own, being able to buy my little farm and to be there for my kids,” she adds in her weekly Mirror newsletter. “I’ve been through hard times and heartache, but I’m lucky to have had a lot of love in my life – two husbands who gave me my brilliant children, as well as fun relationships before, in between and afterwards.”

Vogue Williams dished on domestic life with hubby Spencer Matthews, spilling the tea on a recent “tiff” they had.

In a candid chat on the Netmums podcast with Wendy Golledge and Alison Perry, the mum-of-three confessed that she’s the one pulling more weight at home, saying: “In the nicest way possible, I would say I fix the broken radiator and I do the school run.

“I would say I do 80 percent of what (goes on). We’ve actually been having a slight little tiff about that this morning, about the stuff that I do”. Cracking up, Vogue added: “I’ve had enough today”.

Speaking on her own podcast, Vogue and Amber, the 39-year-old spilled on parenting too, dishing on how their son Otto’s recent early morning wake-up call left Spencer “raging”.

After Otto beelined to their room then dashed to the kitchen, Vogue shared that Spencer was livid: “Then he ran into the kitchen and Spenny was raging.

You think I’m obsessed with my sleep, Spenny gets up and was like, ‘I’m already in a sleep deficit, I need to get back to sleep’”.

Loose Women’s Denise Welch bravely shares harrowing domestic abuse story

Loose Women aired a special show to highlight their campaign Facing It Together, and Denise Welch opened up about suffering domestic abuse in a past relationship

Denise Welch described her heartbreaking experiences in a past relationship during an emotional moment on Loose Women today. The ITV star joined Kéllé Bryan in sharing their stories of domestic abuse, as part of the show’s campaign Facing It Together.

During the special episode, Denise, 66 – who has been happily married to Lincoln Townley – detailed an abusive relationship she suffered through before becoming a household name.

“I fell in love with this incredibly charismatic man, very, very good-looking, and I thought that my whole life had aligned and this was the person for me,” she said.

Unfortunately, things began to change. “And then, of course, you don’t realise what’s happening, so he started to chip, chip, chip away at my personality,” she said of the gradual process.

“Personality traits that I thought made me quite popular suddenly became detrimental, and he would say things like, ‘You know your friends aren’t laughing with you, they’re laughing at you. You know, when you told that joke that they all laughed at, why did you tell that joke? It was rude. You know they were all rolling their eyes at each other,’ and you start to slowly believe.”

    ,Denise Welch, Lincoln Townley
Denise is now in a loving marriage, but she went through a horrifying journey with a man with narcissistic personality disorder(Image: SCU)

The Dancing on Ice star added: “What they do is as well, is that they very, very often have a dysfunctional family of their own. And this is sort of a part of narcissistic personality disorder. And because I was close to my family, bearing in mind probably three phone calls a week from a call box, because we didn’t have mobile phones, I was obsessed with my family. And so they very slowly start to bring you apart.

Denise then shared how the man turned his own toxic traits back on her, explaining: “Also the jealousy that comes, which is unbelievable, is because it’s your fault.” She quoted: “‘If I didn’t love you so much – it’s because I love you so much that you make me like this.’

“So an example of that, before I was on the telly, nobody knew who I was, we were sat in a restaurant together and I was facing the door. The door opened and a couple walked in, and we just made eye contact, so I smiled at them and they smiled at me.”

Recalling her ex’s reaction, Denise described: “He saw, he turned around and he looked at the guy, and I’m not going to say exactly what he said, but the table went up and he said, ‘You want to… my wife, right?’ Well not my wife, my girlfriend.

After being asked how the relationship made her feel, Denise shared: “I was – you can imagine that any normal person listening to that story would say, ‘Why did you not just leave?’

“But you are so desperate to change that person, and they make you feel like you are the centre of their life. And the other thing is… it’s very easy to say ‘Why don’t you leave.’ But basically they are incredibly manipulative.”

The actress added that she’d just watched an upcoming documentary about narcissistic personality disorder, and revealed what she’d learned from it. “Their desire to hurt that person overrides any fear of the law, any fear of anything. Their buzz, as it were, comes from their desire to hurt,” Denise noted.

Denise shared her story as part of a special show marking one year since the launch of Facing It Together, and also spoke with survivors of domestic abuse to encourage others to keep hope and find help.

Loose Women host Charlene White bursts into tears minutes into ‘very special’ ITV show

Charlene White could not withhold her emotions as she praised her Loose Women co-stars saying ‘I am so proud of them’ as they bravely opened up about their experience with domestic abuse

Loose Women’s Charlene White was overcome with emotion as she hosted a “very special” episode as the ITV show marked one year since the launch of their domestic abuse campaign Facing It Together.

The stars of the daytime programme aired their own individual situations as well as speaking to victims in hope of changing the stark statistics. The Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) estimated in March 2024 that 1.6 million women experienced domestic abuse.

Charlene was joined on Monday’s (March 17) show by Jane Moore and Denise Welch and Kéllé Bryan.

Both Kéllé and Denise were willing to share their own harrowing ordeals with viewers and audience members. Before handing over to former Coronation Street star Denise, Charlene wanted to air her own praises for her and Kéllé for bravely coming forward in hope of helping the cause.

She aired: “One thing I do want to say about the ladies that work on this programme when they talk about their own personal experiences, it’s not easy.

“It’s quite a difficult thing to do but it is something that they want to do in order to be able to change those patterns and hopefully stop other people going through the things that they have been through.”

Through tears, Charlene stated: “Don’t underestimate that by telling their story that it’s an easy thing for them, it’s not and it’s a really difficult thing for them to do and the women are going to be talking about their stories, here this afternoon.”

Reinforcing the message with significant emotion, the host added: “It will again be difficult for them to talk about but I am very proud of them for doing that because we’ll never stop using out platform to talk about issues.”

Denise bravely opened up about her own experience, telling the panel: “I was in a relationship that was coercive control and not physical abuse. It was coercive and the difference is you can’t see the bruises.”

The former soap star revealed that she had been in a relationship before husbands Lincoln Townley and Tim Healy, she explained: “He started to chip chip away at my personality.

“He told me ‘your friends aren’t laughing with you, they’re laughing at you’,” as she recounted a situation “tipped” the table in a restaurant after she’d smiled at a couple walking in.

Eternal singer Kéllé also showed bravery talking through emotion about a number of frightful situations where she was physically restrained by her wrists.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the programme Jane Moore could be seen with tears streaming from her face as she outlined the programmes producers had contacted the Home Office with their findings from their very own campaign.

Ruth Langsford is celebrating her 65th birthday today and it is the first without Eamonn Holmes in over 14 years after they parted ways last May

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford split last year to the shock of many fans

TV presenter Eamonn Holmes has been advised to send ex-wife Ruth Langsford an important message as the pair approach a year apart.

Eamonn and Ruth parted ways last May after a 14-year marriage and they are currently navigating divorce proceedings. But, as Ruth celebrates her 65th birthday today, relationship guru James Preece of HeraHaven.com has clear advice for Eamonn.

James suggests Eamonn, 65, should extend a ‘Happy Birthday’ wish to Ruth to sidestep any “unnecessary tension”. James said: “It would be rude not to [contact Ruth] – especially if he wants to keep things amicable.

“A simple ‘Happy Birthday’ text is sufficient. He doesn’t need to make a big gesture, as this would be inappropriate, but he should at least acknowledge the day.”

Choosing to overlook the occasion, according to James, might “create some unnecessary tension and become a discussion point in the future”, reports Belfast Live.

James also reflected on how this birthday could feel for the Loose Women star, potentially tinged with both sadness and the prospect of new beginnings. “There could be some sadness, and she may feel isolated or lonely as she previously celebrated with Eamonn,” he noted.

“However, she might also see it as a fresh start, a chance for renewal and an opportunity to embrace new things. She’s a strong woman, so while it might be bittersweet, I don’t think she’ll dwell on it for too long.”

Finally, James encouraged Ruth to surround herself with loved ones on her day, “in order to feel supported and appreciated”. TV host Ruth, mum to a 23-year-old with Eamonn, has publicly acknowledged that their split was “very difficult”, but she realised she had “to move on”.

Speaking to Woman and Home Magazine, she stated: “You can let yourself crumble or you pick yourself up and get on with life. It’s a choice.”

True to her words, Ruth appears to be embracing her newfound single status, spending more quality time with pals like Rylan Clark and Lizzie Cundy. In the meantime, Eamonn Holmes, a fixture at GB News, has also turned a new leaf in his personal life and is now involved with Katie Alexander, 43, a professional relationship counsellor.

Coleen Nolan interrupts Loose Women co-star to take swipe at ex-husband

Loose Women took an awkward turn on Tuesday when Coleen Nolan made a savage Alfie Moon comment

The claws were out on Tuesday’s (March 18) episode of Loose Women when Coleen Nolan took a swipe at her famous EastEnders ex-husband Shane Richie.

On the ITV programme, fans and audience members were joined by host Charlene White, Gloria Hunniford, Katie Piper and Coleen to discuss many current affairs, including the latest in the House of Commons, the Netflix hit Adolescence and then moving on to more personal matters such as first-born children.

They were discussing whether or not parents could love any other child as much as their first, when Charlene stepped up to air her views on the topic.

Charlene, a mum-of-two, expressed that she adored her son Alfie who was born in 2017 just as much as her second child, a daughter named Florence, who was born two years later.

    Coleen Nolan
Coleen Nolan interrupted her co-star to make a dig at her ex Shane Richie

“It never crossed my mind that I wouldn’t love Florence as much as my first Alfie, I just always knew I was going to have two, no matter,” proclaimed Charlene.

She presented heartwarming photos of her cradling her newborn son in the hospital, stating: “I just knew I was always going to have more than one whether or not I was able to have another one or another way,” when she was interrupted as Coleen seized the moment to stir things up.

    Charlene White
Charlene was interrupted during the sweet segment

As she was showcasing pictures of her first-born nestled lovingly in her arms in hospital, things took a slightly different turn when Coleen interjected.

“Did you name Alfie after Alfie Moon?” Coleen asked Charlene referring to Shane Richie’s EastEnders’ character. And before Charlene had a chance to respond Coleen asked: “And do we need to talk about that?”

    Coleen Nolan and Shane Richie

Bursting out laughing, the newsreader replied: “No!” as the audience erupted into fits of giggles. Alfie Moon is a much-loved fictional character in Walford with his first name proving to be a particularly popular choice for baby boys back in 2003 and 2004, a year after he joined the soap.

Coleen and Shane were married for nine years before they decided to go their separate ways, with both parties citing infidelity as a contributing factor.

The pair who have two sons together – Jake, 31, and Shane Jr, 35 – cut ties in 1999, just three years before Shane’s debut as Alfie on EastEnders. But Coleen recently admitted that she gets along with both of her former husbands – Shane and Ray Fensome, with whom she shares a daughter Ciara.

Mum-of-five Stacey Solomon has opened up about the trepidation she feels unveiling her solo ventures to her fans, with one particularly touching project named in honour of her daughters, Rose and Belle.

The Loose Women, 35, panelist and Sort Your Life Out star is embarking on her most intimate endeavour yet, a journey she’s taken without the involvement of her other half, Joe Swash, aged 43.

The mum-of-five took to Instagram to post a clip where she’s seen sketching a perfume bottle, announcing the debut of her own fragrance line. In an emotional message, the ITV I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! alum expressed: “I’ve made space in my life to follow a dream of mine and create something special that hopefully you will love and will live on forever through my children.”

She added: “I’m so overwhelmed with the feeling of excitement and fear as I step into a world which I can only say is bloody scary but also thrilling. This is a long time coming mostly because I haven’t had the confidence more than anything. But not anymore.”

    Stacey Solomon

During the video, she revealed: “First things first, it is a perfume, it’s just one perfume I’m launching. I’m really, really excited about it. I am also super nervous about it because I’ve let go of a lot of things this year that are guaranteed income that I won’t have next year. And none of this project is guaranteed to be successful in any way, so it feels like a massive risk and is scary.”

Stacey’s goal was to craft a scent that strikes the perfect balance between affordability and luxury, and she’s dedicated considerable effort to make it happen.

“When I say I’ve been through hundreds of formulas I’m not exaggerating. Two of the ingredients in the final formula are Tuberose and Amber,” she revealed about the final product.

She didn’t waste time expressing her gratitude to her fans who have stood by her throughout her journey. “You have literally changed my life,” an emotional Stacey confessed, adding: “I get to live dreams of mine that, when I was growing up, they were… not even dreams of mine, they weren’t even on my radar of dreams because I realised just how far away that was.”

The panellists chatted about previous strops of theirs with Janet, 78, revealing she was less than happy when Ade Edmonson beat her on Celebrity Masterchef.

Shortly after Brenda, 55, explained that people often thought she was annoyed when she was just ‘showing passion’, Linda confronted her about a recent tantrum at the National Television Awards in September.

Brenda had given Linda a ticking off on that occasion for sharing around a bottle of Malbec that Janet had bought at the event for £85.

The singer and actress said: ‘Don’t feel sorry for her, that bottle came out of [Janet’s] hard earned cash, that’s why I don’t socialise with you.’

Linda responded: ‘The one and only time I want to go out with you.’

Moments later, Loose Women cut to a break with Linda seen leaving her seat and telling her co-stars: ‘Right that’s it, I ain’t talking to you.’

She then waved her hands above her head and appeared to walk off the set, before reappearing after the break.

She revealed that after her hairdresser confirmed her initial worries that her hair was falling out, she visited her doctor, who confirmed that hair can fall out following a major surgery.

But in true Janet fashion, she immediately got to work and started implementing steps to stop it from falling out.

She told her fellow panelists that she has her hair professionally washed once a week by a hairdresser, takes collagen tablets and maintains a healthy diet.

Kate and Gerry McCann turned down Dancing on Ice invitation as they can’t be seen ‘smiling’ in public, Denise Welch claims

Loose Women presenter said she struck up a friendship with Madeleine McCann’s grandmother after defending parents against trolling

Denise Welch has claimed that Kate and Gerry McCann, the parents of missing toddler Madeleine McCann, turned down an invitation to watch Dancing on Ice as they are “trolled beyond compression” if they are seen to be smiling in public.

Appearing on Loose Women, Welch said that years ago she struck up a friendship with Susan Healy, who is grandmother to Madeleine. Healy had reached out to Welch after she hit back at claims that the McCanns were involved in their daughter’s disappearance.

“I spoke out all of those years ago when Madeleine was first taken,” Welch said. “Then of course the story started to evolve that a lot of people were suspecting the McCanns… A lot of it came out of ignorance, but because I spoke out quite a lot I got a handwritten letter from Susan Healy who is Madeleine’s grandmother.

“There was a little bond there and she thanked me for speaking out on behalf of Madeleine when a lot of people were turning against [Kate]. It was heartbreaking what she told me and how they were dealing with this.”

After Welch learned that the McCanns were fans of Dancing on Ice, Welch sent a message to the pair via Healy, asking if they would like to take their children to a live recording of the series.

The invitation was declined, however, with Healy informing Welch that appearing on the series would bring negative attention to the pair.

“What she was trying to say is that if Gerry and Kate are seen anywhere, smiling and enjoying anything, the trolling they get is beyond comprehension,” Welch explained.

She added: “I would like closure for the family and to say to the rest of the world who have treated them so appallingly badly when there is no evidence, shame on you.”

The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, who vanished in 2007 when she was three years old, has been revived in recent days.

German police announced last week (3 June) that they have identified a 43-year-old paedophile, who is currently serving a prison sentence for rape, as a possible suspect in the case.

Everyone burst out laughing as she went on: “My sister came on and I thought she wouldn’t come because she was in Dublin touring so she’s not going to fly over and when I thought I can’t cry anymore out popped Brenda singing.”

Coleen joked: “I think they were trying to kill me off and I was thinking this might be my last show and they didn’t tell me.”

At the time, the birthday surprise proved to be overwhelming for Coleen as she burst into tears and admitted that the reunion was ‘too emotional’.

Walking into the studio, Coleen was blindfolded just moments before she was surprised by her sons Jake Roche, Shane Nolan and daughter Ciara Fensome.

The surprises didn’t stop there as she was sent a sweet message from former Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks. The duo became good friends after taking part in the Real Full Monty together.

Later on her rarely seen brothers Brian and Tommy made an appearance live in the Loose studio as well as her sister Maureen Nolan and yet again Coleen burst into tears.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30 on ITV and ITVX
