10 Rare Photographs Of Princess Diana With Prince William And Prince Harry

Princess Diana. The People’s Princess. The Queen of Hearts. Before she was all this and more to many across the world, she was mother to Prince William and Prince Harry. Born into an aristocratic family, Lady Diana Spencer was perfectly placed to marry the Prince of Wales, which she did in 1981. By the time she fell pregnant with their first child, the media spotlight on Princess Diana was already tremendous, following her every move both on and off royal duty. As her due date edged closer, she asked to be induced in order to escape the public eye, a tale she later told to royal biographer Andrew Morton: “I couldn’t handle the press pressure any longer: it was becoming unbearable,” Princess Diana reflected. “It was as if everybody was monitoring every day for me.”

When Prince William did arrive in June of 1982, Princess Diana became the first member of the Royal Family to give birth to a direct heir in a hospital, rather than a palace. She famously chose the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, London, following in the footsteps of her sister-in-law, Princess Anne, who had given birth there years prior. This would reveal the moment that is now so iconic, that of a shy young Diana in a polka-dot dress, holding her baby son beside a beaming Prince Charles. While the Queen had displayed her children on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, Princess Diana’s choice signalled a new modern era for the royal family.

The world was similarly thrilled when the couple fell pregnant once more. By tradition, the sex of a royal baby is not revealed until after they are born, making the birth announcement especially exciting. Princess Diana later shared that she was aware she was carrying a boy the second time around but didn’t disclose this to anybody, including her husband. Prince Henry arrived in September of 1984, with the couple making specific note that he would be known as Prince Harry to his family. Over time, the press and the public too adopted this moniker.

As a mother, Princess Diana was committed to giving her two sons as normal an upbringing as possible (their 1993 visit to Disneyland is testament to this), while at the same time ensuring they understood their responsibilities within the royal family. It is said that when Prince William was seven he told his mother he wanted to be a police officer, to which a five-year-old Prince Harry quipped: “Oh, no you can’t. You’ve got to be king.”

Princess Diana’s outfits were one of the reasons she was so closely followed by the media. Her style trajectory closely matched her evolution as a royal – going from diffident young princess to a confident leader in her own right. In the late ’70s she was considered a typical “Sloane Ranger”, a term coined for the well-heeled high society women of London, signified by the pie-crust-collared shirts she favoured.

She still dressed this way in her royal life in the early ’80s, with ruffle-neck chiffon blouses and dresses with floral collars, although the late ’80s marked a new era in Princess Diana’s wardrobe. She sought out the guidance of designer Catherine Walker, who is credited with shaping her royal style, and her eveningwear took centre stage as she adopted glamorous gowns with voluminous shoulders and ventured into opulent embellished fabrics, earning her the nickname “Dynasty Di”. From the black Victor Edelstein gown she danced in with John Travolta at the White House in 1985 to the white silk pearl-encrusted Catherine Walker “Elvis” look she wore in 1989, and the noteworthy 1994 Christina Stambolian “revenge” divorce dress, her outfits took on an innate celebrity quality of their own.

Princess Diana’s wardrobe was shaped by her duties, too – she stopped wearing gloves, as she felt it prevented her from connecting with the HIV/AIDS patients she visited so often. By the ’90s the causes she had become passionate about while on royal engagements became a personal commitment to the Princess of Wales – soon she was involved with dozens of charities, mostly relating to serious illnesses, children, animals and the fight against the use of landmines. She refined her wardrobe to what she felt was more appropriate attire for this type of work, adopting slim-silhouetted dresses and simple two-piece suits. The paparazzi continued to follow her whether she was working or not, and the world was afforded a glimpse inside her private wardrobe too, with her oversized shirts, loose jumpers and sneakers still a source of inspiration today. She is widely considered the best-dressed woman in history and her fashion legacy is considered as great as the mark she left for her immense humanitarian work and public service.

Millions mourned her death in 1997, but there was one moment that has been caught in the universal collective consciousness, that of her two young sons walking behind her coffin, in dark suits and with their heads bowed towards the ground, during Princess Diana’s funeral procession to Westminster Abbey. While those two boys have now grown into fathers themselves, they still remember fondly the woman who shaped who they are. Prince Harry once shared: “She was our mum. She still is our mum. And, of course, as a son I would say this – she was the best mum in the world. She smothered us with love, that’s for sure.”

These are the kinds of moments that will make you smile and feel good.

Diana was dubbed “The People’s Princess” by many. She was involved in numerous humanitarian endeavors, offering a good example of how a kind and loving person should act.

Barbour is still a popular royal apparel brand, although Princess Diana may have worn it best.

Diana adored Barbour, and her journey to the Outer Hebrides in Scotland in 985 was the ideal occasion to wear her Barbour-style waxed cotton jacket.

Jayne Fincher, a royal photographer who captured some of Princess Diana’s most memorable images, trailed the royal couple everywhere they went. She’d rented a jet to travel to the Outer Hebrides, where Charles and Diana were on official business.

“When I caught up,” says Fincher, “Charles said, ‘Where have you been?’”

The Outer Hebrides are subject to extremes of wind and rain, which Princess Diana experienced during her visit there in 1985.But she looks great in the images from the trip, and photographer Jayne noticed something after going over the negatives.

“You don’t see Diana dressed like that very often. She looked so happy. It was pouring rain, but her makeup was perfect and un-smudged. I looked a mess, as usual,” she said.

The photo below was taken during Diana’s last summer alive. She is seen with her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed on a boat in St. Tropez, France, jumping into the water.

Diana will be remembered as a truly great and loving human being.

EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Prince William’s links to David Beckham strengthen as he appoints the star’s former PR chief as communications boss of his key Homewards project

David Beckham was once so close to the Duke of Sussex that he and his wife, Victoria, were among the guests when Harry married Meghan Markle at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, in 2018.

The Beckhams have since distanced themselves from Harry and Meghan, but their links to the Prince and Princess of Wales continue to deepen.

I can disclose that Prince William has appointed Beckham’s former public relations chief as the new Head of Communications for his landmark Homewards initiative to help end homelessness.

Homewards is a five-year charity project run by William and Catherine’s Royal Foundation.

Victoria Shires, 34, was for three years the Head of PR for Beckham’s DB Ventures, a portfolio of brands and businesses that brings in millions for the former England football captain.

‘It’s been a great first few weeks at the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales,’ says Shires, who started her new job last month.

Victoria Squires used to work for ITV and was PR guru to the Beckhams

Her connections already appear to be paying dividends. She spent seven years working in programme publicity at ITV, and the heir to the throne’s two-part Homewards documentary was broadcast by ITV1 last week. ‘It’s been lovely to have launching that as my first project here,’ she says.

Last month, William and Beckham were pictured sharing a private joke together as they inspected two London Air Ambulances bought with money they had helped to raise.

This week, the Beckhams’ eldest child, Brooklyn, 25, was asked whether he saw more of Harry and Meghan, or William and Catherine. ‘Probably William,’ Brooklyn told the US podcast Watch What Happens Live. ‘He’s just the sweetest guy ever. He really is. He’s really down to earth. He’s a really good guy.’

David and Victoria, who have a combined fortune estimated at £455million, were once so close to the Sussexes that they made a very generous gesture in the run-up to their wedding.

When Meghan returned to her native Los Angeles to find paparazzi camped outside her mother’s home, the Beckhams offered the former actress the use of their six-bedroom, Italian-style villa in the city, where she was waited on by their staff.

And after Meghan moved into Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, Victoria, whose fashion label was expanding into beauty products, gave her advice on make-up and a member of her staff provided her with help on facials and hairdressing. Free of charge, of course.

When news of the Beckhams’ generosity made the Press, however, Meghan was said to be outraged. The Beckhams denied that they had leaked any information but hyper-sensitive reportedly Harry and Meghan became distrustful of them.

While David and Victoria did go on to attend Harry and Meghan’s wedding ceremony, they were not invited to the evening reception, which was attended by some showbusiness figures the Sussexes barely knew.

Despite that snub, David agreed to Harry’s request to fly to Australia, where he was hosting the Invictus Games, his celebrated competition for injured servicemen and women, later that year.

He made the arduous 22-hour journey from London to Sydney only to discover that the duke would not see him or even be pictured with him.

The reason, according to distinguished biographer Tom Bower, was Meghan. ‘She wanted no competition in the media from David,’ he wrote in his book, Revenge. ‘It seemed she was not prepared to tolerate anything flattering regarding the Beckhams and the Games to appear in the media.’

It had been a different sporting event that brought Beckham together with Prince William. Both played an important part in the 2010 bid for the football World Cup. Although the bid was unsuccessful, the pair stayed in touch.

David had always been an ardent royalist, who would stand up for the Queen’s Speech every Christmas, dressed in his Sunday best. Years later, he queued for 12 hours to view the Queen’s coffin when her body was lying in state.

Sophie ‘so happy’ to be home after Jones split

Following Sophie Turner’s toxic divorce from US pop star Joe Jonas, with whom she has two young daughters, the Game of Thrones star is finding it comforting to be back in Britain.

The Northampton-born actress was awarded a Harper’s Bazaar Woman of the Year award this week for her performance in ITV drama Joan. ‘I’m so happy to be back,’ says Turner, 28, who wore a fringed white Louis Vuitton minidress to the ceremony at Claridge’s in Mayfair.

‘It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England,’ she says. ‘I just never really feel like myself when I’m not in London, with my friends and family.’

After the breakdown of her four-year marriage, the actress has found love again with Peregrine ‘Perry’ Pearson, Viscount Cowdray’s son and heir.

Jennifer Lopez clearly took her role seriously as a mother-of-four in the new film Unstoppable.

The biopic is based on American wrestling champion Anthony Robles, who overcame the odds after being born with one leg.

J-Lo, 55, who plays his mother, Judy Robles, reveals that she invited her on-screen children to her home for authenticity.

‘We had them come to my house and I became like mama bear on set,’ she tells me at the London screening in Cineworld Leicester Square.

‘You have to have that comfortable physical thing, as well as an emotional thing.’

The actress adds: ‘It was a beautiful character to play, and I really enjoyed kind of losing myself.’

The film is produced by Artists Equity – a company owned by her estranged husband, Ben Affleck, and she says it was ‘relatable for women dealing with challenging relationships’.

Harry and Meghan absent from Hollywood pal’s birthday bash

Is all well between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their Hollywood chums David Foster and his wife, Katharine McPhee?

I ask only because neither Prince Harry nor Meghan were spotted at Foster’s spectacular 75th birthday show at the packed Hollywood Bowl on Sunday.

And there was no birthday message beamed on the big screen; no ‘Sorry we can’t be there’ announcement.

Foster, 75, a Canadian record producer and musician, was said to be so close to Harry that he was described as a ‘father figure’ after the prince’s fallout with King Charles.

Foster and McPhee, 40, his fifth wife, who attended the same school as Meghan, offered support to the Sussexes after they fled Britain. Their young son was a playmate for Prince Archie.

King Charles speaks about the ‘unbearable emptiness’ following the loss of a loved one just four months after the death of Princess Diana in letter he wrote to a friend in 1997

A poignant letter from King Charles discussing the ‘unbearable emptiness’ of grief four months after Princess Diana‘s death has come to light 27 years on.

Charles tells the recipient, known only as Peter, that his heart ‘bleeds’ for him following the passing of ‘dear Liz’ to illness.

He adds that he can imagine the ‘agony’ he was going through and ‘longed to wave a magic wand to transform the situation’.

Charles then laments the ‘bewilderment and confusion that accompanies the removal of someone so young from the world’.

He elaborates on his Christian faith and his beliefs on what happens when someone dies, quoting a Bible passage that states ‘now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face’.

A poignant letter from King Charles discussing the ‘unbearable emptiness’ of grief four months after Princess Diana’s death has come to light 27 years on

He writes: ‘I have been thinking so much of you yesterday and today, knowing how deeply you will be affected by yesterday’s tragic news about dear Liz.

‘My heart bleeds for you as I can imagine so well the utter agony and despair you must have gone through during all these heart-rendering months that you have known about Liz’s illness.

‘All of us who know you-and are so fond you both-have felt the agony in a far lesser way of course, but have longed to wave a magic wand to transform the situation.

‘I often think that that is the worst part of all-being unable to help in any constructive way except to say constant prayers in the background & to try and surround you both with love & affection & concern.

‘I can so well imagine the unbearable emptiness you must feel at this time; the sense of bewilderment & confusion that accompanies the removal of someone still so young from this world.

‘Personally, I believe that there is another dimension beyond this physical one & that we will be amazed to discover it for ourselves when we are eventually-or at a moment-called upon to make that certain journey for ourselves.

‘As it says in the Bible-‘Now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face.’

‘I can’t tell you how pleased & happy I am to have known Liz. She was such a great life-enhancer.

‘I thought you might just find a very small speck of comfort from this short piece of profoundly wise verse by William Blake and, together with this, I enclose a few ‘Highgrove things’ as a token of immense, affectionate sympathy.’

The three page handwritten letter on Highgrove House letterhead, dated December 8, 1997 and signed ‘Charles’, has emerged for sale for £1,500 ($2,000) at RR Auction, of Boston, US.

It comes with its original envelope which had Charles’s instructions for it to be delivered ‘by hand’.

An RR spokesperson said: ‘This lengthy handwritten letter to ‘Peter’ expresses his sympathy upon the death of a loved one.

‘Charles was likely particularly emotional at the time he wrote the letter, as Princess Diana had tragically passed away just a few months before in August 1997.’

Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris aged 36 on August 31, 1997.

Kate Middleton is expected to join royals at Remembrance Sunday Cenotaph service – as Prince William gives health update

The Princess of Wales is expected to attend Remembrance Sunday events this weekend after her husband Prince William said she was ‘doing really well’.

Kate is making a gradual return to public duties after completing a course of cancer treatment, with her last high-profile appearance at Trooping the Colour in June.

She has stayed home with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis this week while William is in Cape Town for his Earthshot Prize awards.

Now, Kate is hoping to join other senior members of the Royal family at the annual Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph in honour of the war dead this Sunday.

Kensington Palace is yet to confirm the Princess’s attendance at what is an important date in the royal calendar in London, but according to the Press Association she is expected to be present as it stands.

Queen Camilla too has pledged to be there after pulling out of the annual Field of Remembrance opening at Westminster Abbey tomorrow due to a chest infection.

Kate has also spoken with aides about staging her annual Christmas carol service in December, holding a meeting with her team at Windsor Castle on September 24.

Today, William gave an update on Kate during an interview before tonight’s awards, saying: ‘She’s doing really well thanks. And hopefully she is watching tonight.

‘So cheering me on. She’s been amazing this whole year. I know she will be really keen to see tonight be a success.’

He added that he hoped George, Charlotte and Louis be would watching along with Kate when the ceremony is screened online this evening on BBC iPlayer.

The Princess travelled to Merseyside four weeks ago with William to meet privately with bereaved families of the Southport stabbing victims before greeting emergency responders in front of the cameras.

That visit on October 10 was her first joint public appearance alongside her husband since her cancer treatment ended, marking a major milestone in her gradual journey back to public duties.

Kate delivered a bombshell video message in March revealing she was undergoing chemotherapy after post-operative tests following major abdominal surgery showed she had cancer.

Well-wishes flooded in from around the world and King Charles III – who has also had treatment for cancer following his own diagnosis – was said to be ‘so proud’ of his ‘beloved daughter-in-law’ for her courage in speaking out.

In June, Kate made a welcome brief return to the royal frontline at Trooping the Colour, after saying in an update that she has ‘good days and bad days’, but was ‘not out of the woods yet’.

Dylan Thomas, 24, is accused of stabbing William Bush, 23, to death after he was found with multiple wounds to his neck and body.

Thomas, the grandson of pie and property tycoon Sir Stanley Thomas, admitted manslaughter over William’s death but denied murder.

Thomas spoke only to say his name and enter his pleas as he appeared at Cardiff Crown Court via video link from Ashworth High Secure Hospital.

But prosecutor Greg Bull KC said the pleas were not acceptable to the Crown and Thomas will stand trial next week.

Mr Bush, 23, was found dead on Christmas Eve close to a string of popular boutique shops and independent businesses when it was packed with last minute shoppers.

Following Mr Bush’s death police appealed for potential witnesses to come forward who may have been in the shopping or car park area behind Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff at the time.

An inquest earlier heard officers from South Wales Police were called to their home in Llandaff, Cardiff, to reports of a stabbing.

Coroners’ officer Beverley Morgan told the hearing that on Christmas Eve last year police were contacted by members of the public who told them that there had been a ‘stabbing incident’.

Multiple officers arrived at the scene and immediately performed CPR after finding Mr Bush injured in Chapel Street car park next to the city’s landmark Llandaff Cathedral.

Paramedics arrived and Williams was taken two miles to the University Hospital of Wales. But he never recovered.

William’s family – English teacher father John, 61, mother Elizabeth, 63, sister Catrin and brother Alexander – have paid tribute to the keen rugby player and golfer.

The family, who live in Brecon, South Wales, said: ‘Our beloved Will was taken away from us in such a cruel and indescribable way.

‘Will was such a loyal, funny and caring son, brother and boyfriend.’

William, who was working as a surveyor with a commercial property firm, and Thomas had attended the private Christ College in Brecon.

The pair were regarded as best friends and moved into together in a terraced house jointly owned by Thomas’ grandparents and Welsh rugby great Sir Gareth Edwards.

Thomas, a computer programmer, is the grandson of Sir Stanley Thomas, 82, who was knighted in 2006 for his charity work and services to business.

Angel Reese gives emotional verdict on Donald Trump’s election victory over Kamala Harris

Angel Reese admittedly ‘woke up speechless’ after Donald Trump‘s electoral victory over Kamala Harris on Tuesday night.

‘I’m so disappointed in America,’ the Chicago Sky star wrote on X. ‘Some of you just couldn’t selfishly put your pride aside huh??!?!?’

Reese’s particular issues with Trump were not explained in her posts, other than to hint she disagrees with the President-Elect’s hand in restricting reproductive rights during his first term in the Oval Office. Trump nominated conservative Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett between 2017 and 2020, leading to the 2022 Dobbs ruling, which gave states the power to regulate abortions.

‘As a woman, i’m heartbroken for us all,’ the 22-year-old wrote online.

Reese ended her posting on Tuesday morning on a more positive note.

Angel Reese said she is ‘heartbroken’ for all women after Donald Trump’s electoral victory

‘God is the best author and the best finisher,’ she wrote. ‘I’m just going to pray on this & think positive.’

The WNBA is coming off a wildly successful 2024 season, but it wasn’t long ago that the league was known more for its ‘unrelenting activism,’ as Harper’s Bazaar put it, than actual basketball. Reese’s rivalry with Caitlin Clark, as well as the exciting WNBA Finals between the Las Vegas Aces and champion New York Liberty, helped to change that over the summer.

But, with Trump’s return to the White House and America now headed in a more conservative direction, WNBA players could once again embrace protest.

In 2020, particularly, players rallied around the Black Lives Matter movement and took a stance against Atlanta Dream co-owner and Republican senator Kelly Loeffler, who has since sold her share of the team and lost a re-election campaign.

‘I adamantly oppose the Black Lives Matter political movement, which has advocated for the defunding of police, called for the removal of Jesus from churches and the disruption of the nuclear family structure, harbored anti-Semitic views, and promoted violence and destruction across the country,’ Loeffler wrote in 2020.

Dream players arrived at the team’s next game wearing shirts reading ‘Vote Warnock.’

Perhaps as a result, Reverend Raphael Warnock enjoyed a meteoric rise in popularity before pulling out an upset in the special election.
