Proud David Beckham gave a reassuring hand to his wife Victoria as they joined the royals at King’s glittering state banquet for Qatar on Tuesday night.

The former footballer, 49, attended the event with his fashion designer wife, 50, who looked slightly nervous at one point while walking before David reassuringly took her hand.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are hosting a lavish reception for the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the first of his three wives, Sheikha Jawaher, who are in the country for a two-day state visit.

It is understood that former England star David was invited because of his role as an ambassador for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

He was seated next to Naseer Al-Khelaifi, a Qatari businessman and President of French football club PSG – where Beckham ended his high-profile career – ensuring the two men had much to talk about.

At the event Victoria looked stunning in a figure-hugging black dress no doubt from her own fashion brand.

She wore her brunette tresses slicked back and carried a small gold bag to accessorise the look.

Meanwhile David cut a dapper figure in a black jacket and trousers, crisp white shirt and bow tie.

Perhaps mischievously on his right at the banquet was new Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, also attending her first State Banquet.

Beckham, it should be noted, also played right wing.

Former Spice Girl Victoria – sealing her stratospheric rise from pop stardom to the seat of power – was sat even closer to the ‘top table’ than her husband on the right hand side of the horse shoe-shaped dining table.

She had The Lord Levy on her left – appropriately not only a peer but a former CEO of a large group of independent music companies – and Lord Darzi, knighted for his services to medicine and surgery, on her right.

The seating plan is organised by Buckingham Palace’s Master of the Household’s Department in conjunction with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, who fund the State Visit.

And it will surely add only fuel to the fire of speculation that Beckham will be knighted in the near future.

The banquet was the dazzling culmination of a day of pomp and pageantry, honouring the Emir and his wife, Sheikha Jawaher – who landed at London’s Stansted airport yesterday.

The palace ballroom was decorated with a riot of seasonal flowers and foliage in red, reflecting the Qatari flag, arranged in silver-gilt centrepieces taken from the Grand Service from Windsor Home Park and the Orchard Garden at the glasshouses in Windsor.

The flowers are donated the next day to hospices, care home and shelters through Floral Angels, a charity of which Queen Camilla is patron.

Other senior royals present included Prince Anne, who was seated on the top table with the King, Queen and Prince of Wales, as well as the Qatari dignitaries.

The Duke and Duchesses of Edinburgh and Gloucester were also present.

The banquet menu was halal in respect of many of the guests present and while alcohol was served for those to wanted it, a ‘mocktail’ was also devised for the occasion.

The three-course menu included a tartlet of Cornish Lobster and Quails Eggs to start; Supreme of Windsor Pheasant wrapped in Savoy cabbage, roasted celeriac purée, gratinated potatoes with a soft creamy cheese from Suffolk, Truffle sauce and winter vegetables; with an Iced Bombe with Organic Samoan Vanilla Ice cream and Balmoral Plum Sorbet for desert.

In honour of the occasion, a palace ‘page of the presence’ – who is studying for a masters in wine but is also a part time mixologist – devised a special alcohol-free tipple for the occasion – dubbed a ‘Royal Mirage’ made from smoked pomegranate and ginger with a black lime garnish.

Posh’s knight in shining armour! David Beckham beamed with pride as he gently guided wife Victoria through the King’s Buckingham Palace Banquet… so are their invites a sign he’s FINALLY back on the path to the knighthood he craves?

David Beckham stole the show at Buckingham Palace last night as he attended his first-ever state banquet alongside his wife Victoria.

The Beckhams, whose invite was kept secret until the event begun, joined King Charles, Queen Camilla and the Prince of Wales for the glittering event held for the Emir of Qatar, his wife and their delegation.

The former England captain, 49, looked at home at Buckingham Palace and calmly gave his fashion designer wife, 50, a reassuring hand as she appeared nervy walking through the East Gallery surrounded by royals and dignitaries.

It is understood that Beckham was invited to the lavish dinner because of his role as an ambassador for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

There was a touching moment where the beaming ex-footballer confidently strode through the galleries of Buckingham Palace and lent his wife a supportive hand as she appeared to call on him for assistance.

While Beckham last night assumed the role as his wife’s knight in shining armour, his invitation to the palace once again raises questions over whether he has smoothed his path to a knighthood.

Beckham has attended several royal events in the past, including his investiture with an OBE in 2017 and the Queen’s Young Leader event in 2018, but this was his first-ever state banquet.

In June, the former Manchester United winger also became an ambassador for The King’s Foundation – a role he said he was ‘honoured’ to take on.

This year, Beckham has held a meeting with the King about their shared passion of beekeeping and helped Prince William raise funds for the London Air Ambulance.

During a short speech at the King’s Foundation awards ceremony in June, Sir Rod Stewart teased Beckham that his knighthood would be ‘coming soon’ after the singer received his own in 2016.

And social media users have also suggested it is time that Beckham, who earned 115 caps for his country and helped secure the London 2012 Olympics, is recognised appropriately.

Sharing a photo of the Beckhams last night, one user said: ‘Yay we finally have a proper picture of David and Victoria Beckham at the State Banquet at Buckingham Palace.

‘I really hope he gets Knighted as there are some who have a Knighthood who shouldn’t have it and I can’t wait to call Victoria, Lady B.’

Another wrote: ‘Just look at Beckham’s “I can’t believe I’m here” smile as he and Victoria join the Royal Family for the State Banquet tonight at Buckingham Palace.

‘Good for them. Forget the Knighthood, just give him a Dukedom. The Duke and Duchess of Leytonstone should cover it.’

And a third posted: ‘David Beckham is so getting a knighthood… posh Spice, Victoria is gonna be a proper posh spice soon.’

Beckham is yet to join a finite list of his fellow sports stars to receive such an honour, including the likes of the late Sir Bobby Charlton and former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The ex-footballer was awarded an OBE for his services to football in 2003.

His seemingly close relationship with the royals comes 11 years after his furious 2013 email – which he claims was faked where he allegedly called the Honours Committee a ‘bunch of c****’, adding: ‘Who decides the honours? It’s a disgrace.’

By 2013 Beckham’s playing career was over and he expected a fitting honour. That November, one newspaper even published a front-page story under the headline ‘Arise Sir David’, suggesting it was a certainty.

He took exception to singer Katherine Jenkins getting an honour, asking: ‘Katherine Jenkins OBE for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops. F****** joke. All forgotten now?’

The series of emails was released by Football Leaks, the sporting equivalent of WikiLeaks, via European media.

They were dismissed by a Beckham spokesman who said: ‘This story is based on outdated material and taken out of context from hacked and doctored private emails from a third party server and gives a deliberately inaccurate picture.’

Beckham seated next to Naseer Al-Khelaifi, a Qatari businessman and President of French football club PSG – where Beckham ended his high-profile career – ensuring the two men had much to talk about.

Perhaps mischievously on his right was new Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, also attending her first State Banquet.

Beckham is said to have been invited because of his role as ambassador at the Qatar World Cup – something he was heavily criticised for taking on amid questions over the country’s ban on same-sex relationships and alleged treatment of migrant workers.

Former Spice Girl Victoria – sealing her stratospheric rise from pop stardom to the seat of power – was sat even closer to the ‘top table’ than her husband on the right hand side of the horse shoe-shaped dining table.

Qatar’s Emir calls for peace during Westminster visit in London

Addressing the gathering, King Charles paid tribute to the ‘unique, shared history’ of Britain and Qatar, which stretches back over 160 years.

He said: ‘The United Kingdom is proud to be Qatar’s oldest friend in the Western world. We have a special bond founded on mutual respect which has stood the test of time.

‘Indeed, Qatar’s role in navigating the challenges of recent years has been invaluable – from supporting evacuations from Afghanistan, to helping to keep the world moving in some of the darkest days of the pandemic.

‘Your humanity, vision and leadership matter more than I can possibly say.’

He added: ‘Your Highnesses’ visit comes at another moment of great global change.

‘We are living through significant turbulence, the climate emergency, and the white heat of a scientific and technological revolution. Just as our parents served and worked so hard to confront the challenges of their ages, so too must we.

‘And at such times of uncertainty and upheaval, old friendships assume even greater importance.

‘If I may, I would particularly like to express the United Kingdom’s deepest gratitude for your tireless mediation efforts over the past year in pursuit of peace, in the face of unbearable heartache and suffering.

She was wearing diamond earrings are from her private collection, while her necklace, also belonged to Queen Elizabeth.

She also sported a ruby and diamond bracelet and the family orders of both Queen Elizabeth and King Charles.

A video shared on the Royal Family‘s official X account earlier in the day showed Charles and Camilla – who was forced to scale back her appearances during the state visit due to the ‘lingering’ effects of a ‘nasty’ chest infection – inspecting the opulent arrangements before the arrival of their guests.

The first day of the Qatar state visit also marked one of Kate’s most high-profile public appearance since starting her cancer treatment.

She then travelled from the Emir’s private residence to the ceremonial welcome on Horse Guards Parade. The women travelled in one chauffeur-driven car while the men travelled in another and the waiting King warmly greeted his guests on a dais.

The Princess wore a coat by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and a hat by Sahar Millinery, with a pearl necklace that belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Kate is carrying out even more royal duties than previously planned at the state visit in London amid what is being seen as a ‘positive sign’ in royal circles.

Meanwhile Queen Camilla has been forced to scale back her involvement due to ill health, and travelled straight to the palace – missing the ceremonial welcome.

Camilla’s car was driven around the quadrangle to the Grand Entrance, and she smiled as she stepped from the vehicle and made her way into the palace.

Looking relaxed, the King spoke to guests on the royal dais including Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

A guard of honour was formed by the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards stood waiting in two ranks to be inspected by the Qataris.

The 76-year-old monarch then made a number of presentations before inviting the Emir to inspect the Guard of Honour as the Qatari national anthem was played.

As they got out of their cars, William affectionately placed his hand on his wife’s back while they stood on the dais.

Kate then turned to the King and offered him a deep curtsy before the five greeted officials in the line up.

More than 900 soldiers, including nearly 200 Army musicians and 100 members of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery turned out at Horse Guards in honour of the guests.

For this State Visit the format has been adjusted slightly to allow The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery to play a more visible role, not least because the Emir adores his horses and passed out of Sandhurst as a young man.

A Guard of Honour was formed by the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards with The King’s Colour, accompanied by the Band of the Regiment.

After the King invited a decidedly delighted-looking Emir to inspect the Guard of Honour, William and Catherine remained on the stage chatting animatedly to the Sheikha.

The royal party then departed Horse Guards in a spectacular carriage procession, accompanied by a Sovereign’s Escort of the Household Cavalry.

Later at Buckingham Palace, the King arrived at the Grand Entrance in the Irish State Coach with his visitors to the sound of the Qatar and British national anthems.

Waiting inside in the warm in the Grand Hall was the Queen.

In the second carriage, the Australian State Coach, were the Prince and Princess of Wales with the Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

Sheikh Mohammed stepped from the carriage first, followed by William, with both turning to wait for Kate.

The princess stepped carefully from the state coach in her knee-high high heeled boots.

The Waleses walked side by side chatting to one another, with Kate carrying a small matching burgundy handbag and a pair of gloves, as they made their way up the red carpeted steps of the Grand Entrance.

More pomp and pageantry awaited as they arrived at the Palace to a second Guard of Honour and a rendition of both the British and Qatari national anthem.

Camilla was waiting inside to greet her guests but did not step outside because of her illnesses.

The queen was forced to recuse herself from the ceremonial welcome at Horse Guards Parade on doctor’s advice because she is still suffering from the ‘lingering’ side-effects of a ‘nasty viral chest infection’.

The 77-year-old royal, who fell ill a month ago, is said to be feeling particularly ‘fatigued’ – but a palace spokesperson confirmed she will attend the other elements of the state visit as planned.

The state visit is considered one of the highlights of the royal calendar and a show of royal ‘soft diplomacy’ in action.

Senior Qatari diplomats have told the Mail that they are ‘deeply honoured’ the King has chosen their country as the first Middle Eastern state to be invited for a full state visit to the UK since Charles’ accession.

The country enjoys a good relationship with the UK diplomatically, with the Emir, 44, having studied in Britain – first at Sherborne and then Harrow – followed by a stint at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.

There remains great admiration for the late Queen Elizabeth II, and Charles has met with the Emir on several occasions.

The two countries also have strong trade, cultural and military links, and Qatar is a major investor in the UK, not just through property and construction projects, but in science and technology.

However concerns have been raised about the authoritarian nature of the Qatari ruling family and human rights, particularly as regards migrant workers.

Kim Kardashian was one of the many stars to shine at the 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala on Saturday in Los Angeles.

On this night the always fashionable reality star, 44, came decked out in a plunging white gown that she accessorized with an antique amethyst piece once worn by the late royal Princess Diana at a 1987 charity event.

Her striking white number showcased her ample cleavage, with the large jewelry piece providing some contrast.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians alum also donned a pearl choker that resembles another jewelry piece of Diana’s, according to WWD.

The multi-media superstar would add an ivory coat to the ensemble, which she wore off-the-shoulder.

Rounding out her overall look for the event, Kardashian had her dark tresses in a sleek bob with a part off to the left, while her makeup consisted of winged eyeliner, brown eyeshadow and a nude lip.

The mother of four purchased the Attallah Cross at a Sotheby’s auction just last year for $197,453, which is double of the pre-auction estimate.

Named for its previous owner, Naim Attallah, the Palestinian-British businessman lent the amethyst and diamond piece to Diana throughout the 1980s.

Diana, Princess Of Wales, is pictured wearing the pendant on a string of pearls when she attended the 1987 Birthright charity gala, where she donned a purple velvet Catherine Walker gown.

The Attallah Cross was originally made by Garrand in the 1920s, and features square-cut amethysts surrounded by 5.25 carats of circular-cut diamonds.

As for Kardashian’s chunky pearl choker that resembled another piece of Diana’s, the eleven-strand necklace was also adorned with rubies and diamonds.

Featuring 900 pearls, the late Princess Of Wales wore it at several events, including film and theater premieres over the years.

Princess Diana (born Diana Frances Spencer), whose activism and glamour helped make her an international icon with seemingly enduring popularity, was just 36 when she was died in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris, France while her driver was fleeing the paparazzi on August 31, 1997.

Notables from the art, film, fashion, and entertainment industries gathered for the LACMA for 13th annual Art+Film Gala, which was sponsored by Gucci.

It supports the museum’s curatorial programming, exhibitions, acquisitions and more programs that explore the intersection of art and film.

This year’s event honored Elvis writer and director Baz Luhrmann and sculptor Simone Leigh, while LACMA trustee Eva Chow and actor Leonardo DiCaprio served as co-chair of the event for the 13th consecutive year.

Proceeds from the annual Art+Film Gala go toward underwriting LACMA’s initiative to make film more central to the museum’s curatorial programming, while also funding LACMA’s broader mission. This includes exhibitions, acquisitions, and educational programming, in addition to screenings that explore the intersection of art and film.

David Beckham’s new festive ad is reported to authorities as viewers spot former footballer’s ‘lethal’ use of wood-fired oven

David Beckham inadvertently found himself in hot water on Wednesday, and it had nothing to do with the upscale coffee blender he plugs in a new advert.

The former Manchester United and England midfielder has been recruited as the face of Ninja kitchen appliances, but a new advert left viewers seething with the popular brand.

The festive 30-second commercial finds Beckham, 49, left to sort Christmas dinner on his own, with no time to spare – a near impossible task he only manages with the help of his handy Ninja accessories.

But the ex-England skipper’s apparent indoor use of a wood-fired oven, worth £350 and primarily designed for outdoor use, has resulted in the brand being reported to the Advertising Standards Authority.

Guidance from Ninja’s own user manual reads: ‘DO NOT use indoors. If used under overhead cover, toxic fumes, including carbon monoxide, may accumulate and cause serious bodily injury or death.’

Beckham’s deal with SharkNinja – the latest in a stream of lucrative endorsements – was announced in May and is understood to be worth £1million.

SharkNinja representatives have since confirmed that all scenes involving the oven were filmed outdoors, while the festive commercial was given a green light by advertising clearance organization Clearcast prior to launching on national television.

A spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘David Beckham was cooking in an outdoor kitchen during the filming of this advert, in compliance with the Woodfire Outdoor Oven’s usage instructions.

‘The advert was cleared by Clearcast before airing.’

The former footballer developed a passion for cooking while playing across continental Europe with Real Madrid, AC Milan and Paris Saint Germain.

Close family friend Eva Longoria previously called Beckham ‘a great cook’ after he gave her tips on how to make a traditional shepherd’s pie.

She told the Table Manners podcast: ‘David’s a great cook. He didn’t teach me, but he told me the trick is ketchup.’

She added: ‘He makes a good Bolognese. He’s very much into cooking, you can see from his Instagram.’

The Ninja controversy appeared to be forgotten on Tuesday evening as Beckham, accompanied by wife Victoria, attended his first ever state banquet at Buckingham Palace.

The former England captain looked at home at the Palace and calmly gave his fashion designer wife, 50, a reassuring hand as she appeared nervy walking through the East Gallery surrounded by royals and dignitaries.

While Beckham assumed the role as his wife’s knight in shining armour, his invitation to the palace once again raises questions over whether he has smoothed his path to a knighthood.

Suki Waterhouse is channeling Princess Diana’s bold style.

Last week, the 32-year-old actress and singer made a fashion splash on TikTok with a sartorial tribute to the late Princess of Wales. The quick clip showed Waterhouse modeling a whimsical vintage dress by Zandra Rhodes, the same style that Princess Diana wore several times in the 1980s.

“It’s cream version but still princess,” the star captioned the clip of herself laughing and twirling in the drop-waist dress with neutral heels.

The video flashed to throwback photos of Princess Diana in a pale pink version of the frock and was overlaid with audio from The Devil Wears Prada. Waterhouse mimed the dialogue from the 2006 comedy where Anne Hathaway’s character told Emily Blunt’s character, “Yeah, I am” wearing “the Chanel boots” after her makeover. In text displayed on the video, the Daisy Jones & the Six star replaced the movie lines with her own version: “The Zandra Rhodes dress that Diana wore to dinner in Kyoto? Yeah…I am.”

The Zandra Rhodes brand confirmed the provenance of Waterhouse’s look on Instagram, explaining that the “it girl” was wearing the label’s “Buttons and Bows” dress from 1986.

The dress came to be after Princess Diana popped into the label’s London shop and was struck by the design for the dress, which was planned to be made in black with a fluorescent pink print. The designer suggested switching the colors to pink and white, and Diana commissioned the combination. It was later made for her following two fittings at her Kensington Palace apartment, and the color scheme and print were kept exclusive to her, Kerry Taylor Auctions reported.

The ethereal look with off-the-shoulder neckline, beading and zigzag hem apparently became a favorite in her royal rotation, and the Princess of Wales wore it to a Torvill and Dean party in 1985, an official state visit to Japan with the future King Charles in 1986 and a benefit for the London City Ballet in 1987.

A decade later, the Zandra Rhodes dress was part of the lot at the Christie’s of New York auction Diana held shortly before her tragic death in 1997. In 2011, it changed hands once more and was bought by Historic Royal Palaces for almost $32,000, the Daily Mail reported.

“She would always check that the dress was not too daring or indiscreet. Especially the skirt as she got out of the car. She said that the photographers would always be there to get the wrong angle!” the designer told the outlet, adding that the royal didn’t need to do much to make an outfit pop.

    Harry and Meghan at Christmas

The festive season is set to sparkle, but it seems Harry and Meghan could be decking the halls away from Royal traditions again this year, by sticking close to home in sunny California. The Sussexes, who set up their new life stateside in 2020, have a cosy Christmas lined up with hints that the couple may snub any UK invites – reportedly including one from Harry’s dear uncle, Charles Spencer – in favour of family time in the States.

Speaking to OK! , former Royal correspondent Jennie Bond shared touching insights on why Meghan might opt for a California Christmas, saying: “I think most women like to be with their mums on Christmas Day. Given that Doria does not seem to have any other family she wants to share the festivities with, I think it’s a fair bet that Meghan will want to be with her and that would mean them all being in California. I don’t imagine that Doria would want to spend such a special time with people she barely knows – in other words the Spencers.”

Gossip has been swirling about an invitation to join Charles Spencer at Althorp House – a childhood haunt of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, which he last visited in August – yet it looks increasingly like the couple’s heart is set on a warm, familial Noel with Doria. Despite the Duke’s close ties with the Spencers, Royal commentator Jennie Bond reckons it’s unlikely he’ll jet off for festive celebrations. She shared: “It’s nice though, to think that Harry might have an option to be with his uncle in the UK, although I have no reason to believe the Earl actually has invited Harry and family to stay.”

As for other European trips during the holiday season, the former BBC Royal correspondent doesn’t see them heading to Portugal unless Eugenie and Jack are there. Even though 34 year old Eugenie and her hubby Jack Brooksbank started splitting their time between Portugal and the UK in 2022, Jennie believes that “Eugenie will want to be with her mum [ Sarah Ferguson ] on Christmas Day”. This wouldn’t be the first time Meghan and Harry have ‘snubbed’ any invites to the UK for Christmas as they’ve chosen to spend it in California for several years.

It’s likely that Meghan will want to spend Christmas with her mum, according to a royal expert

In fact, Meghan hasn’t returned to the UK since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022. Royal expert Jennie added: “All in all I think the chances are that Harry, Meghan, the children and Doria will enjoy Christmas in the sunshine in Montecito. It will probably be a time of some reflection for Harry – he has written about his nostalgia for times when his UK family were all together. But, as any parent knows, when your kids are rushing around, manically ripping opening presents and getting thoroughly over excited at Christmas, there’s not much time to think of anything other than keeping them happy and stopping them fighting. So, I reckon it will be a fun and sun filled Christmas in Montecito.”

  • The truth behind Prince William using Diana’s engagement ring to propose to Kate – as Prince Harry says rumours he gave it to his brother are ‘absolutely rubbish’

The truth behind Prince William using Diana’s engagement ring to propose to Kate – as Prince Harry says rumours he gave it to his brother are ‘absolutely rubbish’

After Princess Diana‘s tragic death in 1997, it was only natural for her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, to choose a personal item of hers as a reminder of their mother.

Harry reportedly selected Diana’s Garrard sapphire engagement ring, while William opted for her Cartier Tank Française watch.

In 2010, it is believed the brothers swapped items, so William could use the ring to propose to Kate Middleton. Later, Harry gave the luxurious timepiece to Meghan Markle.

However, in his bombshell biography Spare, released last year, the Duke of Sussex branded these reports ‘absolutely rubbish’.

Instead, Harry claimed William was already in possession of their mother’s ring when he proposed to Kate, so he was never asked to give it up.

One of the most famous pieces of jewellery in history, the Garrard sapphire and diamond engagement ring was purchased by Charles for Diana in 1981. It cost £28,000 and is now valued at upwards of £300,000

Additionally, Harry said he was unaware of William’s intention to marry Kate until the engagement was publicly announced.

‘Soon after we returned to Britain the Palace announced that Willy was going to marry. November 2010,’ the Prince wrote.

‘News to me. All that time together in Lesotho, he’d never mentioned it.

‘The papers published florid stories about the moment I realised Will and Kate were well matched, the moment I appreciated the depth of their love and thus decided to gift Willy the ring I’d inherited from Mummy, the legendary sapphire, a tender moment between brothers, a bonding moment for all three of us, and absolute rubbish: none of it ever happened.’

Harry went on to deny ever asking for the piece of jewellery after Diana’s death and wrote: ‘I never gave Willy that ring because it wasn’t mine to give. He already had it. He’d asked for it after Mummy died, and I’d been more than happy to let it go.’

One of the most famous pieces of jewellery in history, the Garrard sapphire and diamond engagement ring, was purchased by Charles for Diana in 1981. It cost £28,000 and is now valued at upwards of £300,000.

The ring, inspired by Queen Victoria‘s sapphire brooch from 1840, which she wore as her ‘something blue’ on her wedding day, symbolised marriage, family and love.

When presented with various options, Diana and Charles reportedly selected this ring together, as it complemented her blue eyes.

The choice of a catalogue ring rather than a custom-designed piece broke royal tradition, making it possible for others to purchase the same engagement ring.

In another twist, Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, told the Mirror that he was present when the brothers selected the items to remember their mother by.

Paul claimed: ‘Harry said to me, “I always remember holding Mummy’s hand and that ring hurting me because it was so big”.

‘And that’s why, when the boys came to Kensington Palace, I said to them, you must take something of your Mother’s. You must take something to remind yourself of your time here at Kensington Palace and your mother’s life.’

The former royal employee claimed that William asked to keep Diana’s Cartier watch, which had been a present from her father on her 21st birthday, while Harry chose her engagement ring, which has now been worn by Kate for almost 14 years.

What’s more, Paul says that William was ‘happy with the arrangement’.

Diana wore her beloved Cartier Tank Française on several occasions, including a 1997 visit to London’s Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Temple and an engagement at the British Lung Foundation that same year.

At the time, the yellow gold watch was priced at £17,800. Harry later gave it to Meghan, who has worn it countless times, often stacked with a Cartier Love bracelet.

It is a clear favourite from her inherited collection.

Birmingham City play host to Wrexham in one of League One’s most hotly-anticipated clashes of the season

Traditionally, this evening’s clash between Birmingham City and Wrexham might not seem the likeliest place to spot a A-list star, but these are strange times we live in.

The Blues host the Red Dragons in an eagerly awaited League One contest that is expected to draw a bumper crowd to St Andrew’s, with both teams having their sights set on promotion to the Championship come the end of this season.

Driving the plans behind the scenes for positive change at the respective has included a sprinkling of stardust, with Birmingham owner Tom Wagner and his Knighthead Capital team bringing on board one of American sport’s most famous faces in former NFL star Tom Brady.

This evening’s opponents, Wrexham, have had their fortunes turned around by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, with the popular Disney+ series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ having seen the club’s popularity on the other side of the Atlantic grow significantly.

READ: Blues announce partnership with $59b company to kickstart ‘defining era’

READ: David Beckham set to add to Tom Brady stardust at Birmingham City

Famous faces from sport and entertainment have started to become more commonplace when it comes to investing in football, with Will Ferrell an investor in Leeds United alongside basketball stars Russell Westbrook and Larry Nance Jnr, while actor Michael B. Jordan has a stake in Bournemouth. Across the pond, the likes of Natalie Portman and Eva Longoria both have investments in teams that compete in the both men’s and women’s football.

David Beckham, English football royalty, is expected to be in attendance for the clash this evening.

Since retiring, the 49-year-old ex-Real Madrid and Manchester United star has become an active investor with a diversified portfolio, with one of his main deals being that of acquiring an ownership stake in MLS side Inter Miami, playing a significant role in bringing Lionel Messi to America.

Brady and Beckham are said to have grown close and, according to US magazine Life&Style, are on the lookout for investment opportunities that they can enter together.

A source told the magazine: “There’s talk of everything from a fashion line to sports equipment and an alcohol brand. The idea of buying an NFL team together is even on the table.”

Beckham already has a minority ownership stake in an EFL side through his 10% of the ‘Class of 92’ owned Salford City. Him taking any kind of ownership stake in Birmingham is highly unlikely.

However, Brady is understood to want to play an active role in Birmingham’s growth and not just be a passive investor, and business collaborations with Beckham could have a line back to the Blues in an indirect way.

Leveraging the Birmingham brand through Brady and Beckham’s friendship, and unique positioning among the American sporting public, with Brady one of the country’s all-time sporting greats and Beckham having had huge popularity since being a driving force for Inter Miami and the ‘Messi effect’, is something that could be done.

In the same way that Reynolds and McElhenney have been cute in terms of bringing on board major sponsors through association, a Brady and Beckham alliance could also have a significant impact when it comes to bringing on board new commercial partners or other forms of investment.

Brady’s long-standing history with the NFL, and the potential of NFL team ownership in the future, means that the prospect of a link-up between the two entities could be on the cards. With the NFL to open itself up private equity investment, Wagner and Knighthead Capital have been weighing up options for an NFL investment, with the Las Vegas Raiders mentioned as a potential target.

Making the most of relationships that allow for the club to cut through in major markets like the US will be an important tactic for the Blues moving forward, with Knighthead Capital’s investment thesis being one of a long-term view.

On the face of it, famous faces being in attendance may seem to be something of a sideshow that may detract from the importance of what happens on the pitch, but in making football club’s stand out in the crowd and maximise a golden opportunity, especially in the US where the ‘soccer’ market is enjoying something of a boom, means that for those that can pull on such levers, they will see the value in doing so.

Simon Jordan couldn’t resist a sly swipe at David Beckham after the former footballer described Birmingham City’s St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park as the best atmosphere he has witnessed ‘for a long time’.

Beckham was one of the celebrity guests in attendance at the home of the Blues on Monday night to witness Chris Davies’ side defeat fellow League One promotion hopefuls Wrexham. The third tier match was given that extra layer of glamour owing to the fact both teams have been boosted by wealthy US financial backing in recent seasons.

Representing the visitors in the stands was actor Rob McElhenney, with co-owner and fellow star of the screen Ryan Reynolds watching from afar. For the hosts, the Knighthead Capital Management were in attendance, which includes seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.

He was sat alongside Beckham for the occasion, who then one night later was seen making a surprise appearance on CBS’ coverage of the UEFA Champions League. Talking to the likes of Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards, he admitted: “I’ve not seen an atmosphere like that for a long time.”

But unbeknownst to him, this statement would open up the door to a witty jibe from talkSPORT pundit Jordan, who via X responded: “That’s probably true given he’s regularly watching #InterMiami,” followed by a winking tongue-out emoji.

Since retiring, the England legend has taken a similar path to Brady’s in that he has taken to club ownership in football, or ‘soccer’, as is coined in the United States. After years of planning, his Inter Miami franchise entered the MLS in 2020 and have since gone on to become one of the biggest names commercially in the sport.

This is owing to the fact they have been manager to attract a series of Europe’s former top talents reaching their final years, the greatest being Lionel Messi, then his former Barcelona team-mates Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba. Previously Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi have also played for the club, whilst former Lionesses manager Phil Neville was for a time their coach.

But the US league is still to challenge the history and following of the English game, perhaps now even down to Birmingham in the third tier with internationally recognised names like Brady bringing a new spotlight to a team with desires on one day returning to the Premier League.
