It was June 1919, just seven months on from the end of the First World War.

And Queen Mary, attending what was the first Wimbledon Championships in four years, showed that things were on the up with her choice of jewels.

She arrived to present the trophies alongside her husband King George V wearing an enormous brooch pinned at her neckline and a large pendant that hung from a chain and rested on her chest.

The brooch was a large oval-shaped pink topaz, while the pendant was the same stone but cushion-shaped.

More than 30 years later, in 1950, Mary watched the tennis wearing pearl strands and a bejewelled floral brooch pinned to her dress at the throat – before presenting the Venus Rosewatcher Dish to women’s singles winner Louise Brough.

In 1957, her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II was wearing a three-strand pearl necklace given to her by her late father King George VI – along with matching earrings and a delicate diamond floral brooch – when she presented the salver to winner Alethea Gibson.

Like Queen Mary’s, those jewels were impressive – but the sight of the Queen wearing them did not match her sister Princess Margaret‘s outing in 1965, when she was spotted in the royal box with sunglasses on, cigarette in hand and a fabulous diamond brooch pinned to her shoulder.

Queen Mary gave the pieces she wore in 1919 to her daughter-in-law Princess Alice and they now belong to the Duchess of Gloucester.

The large topaz is often swapped into the Gloucester Honeysuckle Tiara, while the cushion-shaped pendant is in a bracelet.

In 1962, when she handed the men’s singles trophy to Rod Laver, Queen Elizabeth wore a decidedly more grand diamond brooch than her floral one from 1957, alongside her triple strand pearls.

Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Brooch was bequeathed to her following her grandmother’s death.

This spectacular piece was created and set entirely with diamonds by Garrard and bought by Queen Mary in 1932.

It became a favourite of her granddaughter, who normally wore it at gala functions alongside one of her many imposing tiaras and other formal jewels.

She also wore it at the wedding of Prince William and Kate in 2011.

Princess Margaret’s Carinthia Floral Spray Brooch – the one she wore at Wimbledon in 1965 – was presented to the Princess in 1955 to commemorate her launching of the Carinthia Steamship for the Cunard Line.

The main flower is set with a large diamond, with further diamonds set in the petals, leaves and stalks.

It is believed to date back to the 19th century, with the age clue being how the diamonds are set in silver on gold.

Nowadays, her daughter Lady Sarah Chatto wears it for formal occasions.

The day before, when the sun had been shining for the ladies’ singles final, Margaret wore a pair of diamond cluster earrings to present the salver to Australian Margaret Court.

The brooch, according to Hugh Robert’s in his encyclopaedic tome The Queen’s Diamonds, was made by Garrard in the mid-19th century in two parts.

The first was with a large pearl surrounded by a narrow halo of pavé-set diamonds encircled with 14 round brilliant diamonds.

The second part was a detachable pendant of diamonds and a large baroque pearl.

For her last appearance at Wimbledon in 2010, the Queen wore not only her triple strand pearl necklaces and pearl earrings, but her pearl and diamond Trefoil Brooch – one of her favourites.

If you look very carefully, you might also spot her tiny diamond hat pin. We are unlikely to see one of those again at Centre Court!

The 1980s brought about a pared down look for the royals at Wimbledon.

On July 4th 1981, days before her wedding, Lady Diana Spencer was spotted sitting in the second row behind Princess Grace of Monaco at the men’s singles final – where Bjorn Borg took on John McEnroe.

The Wimbledon visit was Diana’s first year in the Royal Box.

A decade later, when nine-year-old Prince William accompanied her, Diana wore the same Patek Philippe watch along with a gold chain bracelet with a charm on it.

She also wore a pair of simple pearl and gold hoop earrings and a long gold chain.

At the 1994 championships, the Princess of Wales sat alongside Princess Michael of Kent to watch Pete Sampras win the men’s singles.

This time, Diana wore a bracelet and earring set of Tiffany & Co gold jewels, whilst Princess Michael’s earrings appeared to be Saturn-like discs with large pearls in the centre.

The younger generation of royal ladies have kept things more simple.

Since her very first appearance, months after her marriage to Prince William in 2011,- Kate has mostly worn a simple pair of earrings – pearls, gold hoops or a coloured gemstone selection from Kiki McDonough.

But in 2016 she looked to Scotland and a firm traditionally known for cashmere to provide her jewels when she watched Scot Andy Murray win his second Wimbledon title.

The Brora gold charm earrings were made of gold-plated brass hoops.

She twinned them with her Cartier watch and Garrard engagement ring.

Last year, her first as Princess of Wales, Kate added a gold and aquamarine bangle by Halcyon Days to her attire at the women’s final.

She also wore her Cassandra Goad pearl clusters – last seen at this year’s Trooping the Colour.

We’ve not seen Meghan in the Royal Box since 2019 when, sitting alongside Kate, the Duchess of Sussex wore her beautiful diamond engagement ring and a pair of gold bar studs with turquoise inlays from LA jeweller Jennifer Meyer.

Who is Harper Beckham and what does her name mean?

Harper was born on July 10, 2011 in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles.

She is the only daughter of David and Victoria Beckham.

Harper is now 13 — six years younger than her nearest sibling.

She is the sister to Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz.

After she was born in 2011, David revealed what her name meant on social media.

He said: “Victoria’s favourite book is To Kill A Mockingbird, it’s a very strong, passionate book and the author was Harper Lee, and that is where Harper came from.”

For her 12th birthday, her parents pulled out all the stops as Harper celebrated at a lavish Prada party wearing a dress made by her designer mum.

However, she was seen in November posing with her mother at the 2024 Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards at Claridge’s hotel in London.

She opted for a classic look in a floor-length blue gown and introduced her mum on stage to collect the Entrepreneur Award.

She told the VIP crowd: “She’s taught me so much about what it takes to succeed but above all else she’s taught me to always be kind and even though she has a million things to do she rarely misses the school run.”

However, the youngster has proved she has a keen eye for fashion, just like her mum.

In fact, the Sun revealed that Victoria has incorporated a business called H7B Limited to funnel any future earnings for the youngster.

The firm — referencing the teenager’s full name, Harper Seven Beckham — has Posh and a solicitor listed as its director.

The move means Harper could soon earn millions from big deals, with a string of brands thought to have reached out to her already.

The youngest Beckham doesn’t appear to have an Instagram account.

Instagram rules state that everyone should be at least 13 years old before they create an account.

But there are many fan accounts on the social media site dedicated to the young girl, some with around 100,000 followers.

On top of that, Victoria has already begun putting her name out there.

She used the hashtag #Harper­Seven in an Instagram video of her daughter writing down her hopes and dreams — which included “create an amazing brand” — at a Victoria Beckham Beauty event.

And dad David hinted at a move into the public eye during a talk at a telly event.

The ex-England captain, 49, said: “I’ve got three good-looking boys that a lot of people are interested in, and a beautiful little girl that no one is interested in — just yet.”

A source close to the family said: “So far, Harper has been kept quite private.

“But there is huge demand from brands who see her as someone lots of other teens would look up to.

“Posh and Becks can see her potential and she wants to try some things out in the public eye.

“The wheels are in motion to slowly book some jobs for her.”

Along with the whole Beckham clan, Harper also appeared at the premier of football legend father David’s 2023 Netflix documentary, Beckham.

Who are Harper’s siblings?

Harper has three older brothers.

The eldest, Brooklyn, is following a career in photography.

He was born on March, 4, 1999 and has a number of tattoos — just like his dad.

He seems to be a natural born performer, as he performed a break-dancing routine to Spice Girls fans during a reunion tour at Madison Square Garden when he was just TWO.

Born on February 20, 2005, he has gone on to release a single, If Every Day Was Christmas in 2016.

Cruz has amassed a huge following on Instagram, where he regularly posts videos of himself singing.

Doting dad David was pictured dropping her at Claridge’s hotel in London’s Mayfair for the bash, with my moles telling me Harper was whisked home in a £100,000 chauffeur-driven Maserati alongside a security guard.

Now, this high life is nothing new to Harper, who counts actress Eva Longoria and sports agent Dave Gardner as her godparents, and shares her name with her parents’ £16million superyacht.

She is a rich kid with a very gilded life being mapped out in front of her.

Moaning bores will complain Harper, at 13 years old, is too young to be launched into the spotlight.

I even saw comments from helicopter-parenting Karens about how Harper was being “sexualised” because of the dress — no doubt carefully chosen by Posh — that she wore to the awards show on Monday.

Keyboard warriors

What a load of garbage.

When I was 13, I was raiding my mum’s wardrobe for outfits, and when out of school uniform wore embarrassingly short skirts and crop tops. Not mum’s, obviously, she is a classy woman.

And as for the social media video of Harper doing her make-up, which gave the judgment brigade something else to gossip about, I suggest they talk to the parent of a girl-teen and ask how their daughter spends their time.

Because I bet most of them are up in their bedrooms recording the exact same “Get Ready With Me” videos for their pals at school.

I understand that none of these teenage girls will ever feel the intensity of scrutiny from the outside world as much as Harper, but let’s face it, we all know evil keyboard warriors are just primed to tap out some hate from their grotty bedrooms — and so do Posh and Becks.
Harper wants seven figures
It’s the reason why, I’m sure, Harper still doesn’t have a social media presence.

And when she does, you can bet your last pound it’ll be run by a team of experts that will never allow Harper’s innocent eyes to catch sight of anything negative.

And if she does, a quick chat with Posh — who is continually mocked for being too thin and for never smiling — and Becks, who is made fun of for his voice and his undeniable irritation at still not being given a knighthood, will sort her right out.

They can laugh all they want, Harper, but look at the life you have.

Posh and Becks’ other kids have also gone through the same process and have all come out fine.

In fact, anyone who has met their brood will tell you immediately how polite, respectful and kind they are to everyone they meet.

Romeo was just ten years old when he made his modelling debut for Burberry and that hasn’t done him any harm.

Cruz meanwhile is having his music career so carefully curated it’s been eight years since he was “launched” but we’ve still not heard a note.

And Brooklyn, despite his detractors, is living in a multi-million-pound house in the US rustling up sandwiches.

So far, so inoffensive.

Posh and Becks are the masters of image crafting, which is why their 25-year marriage is still going strong.

No matter what hell is happening behind the scenes, on the outside they are unflappable and infallible.

And I expect no less when it comes to Harper.

The teen has brands queuing up outside her family’s West London mansion, brandishing pay deals worth more than us lot could earn in a lifetime.

But with Posh and Becks carefully working out Harper’s next move with precision planning, I’m genuinely excited to see what she does.

Every year, reality shows like Love Island spew out identikit “stars” who are brutally told they have “six months to make it” or go back into the realms of obscurity.

Ultimately, nearly all of them crash and burn and I sit with my head in my hands when I have to try and remember 30 new names . . .  all of which will be forgotten by the end of year.

But there is only one Harper Beckham.

And she will be a proper star none of us are going to forget in a hurry.

Now that is something I am happy to celebrate.

Go get them, Harper. You are going to be a real star.

Jen will head off on the next leg of the promotional tour today and was all smiles as she met fans.

Given the fact she’s having to talk about a film she made with her former husband Ben Affleck, she is putting on a masterful show of how to get over an ex.

Speaking about being able to put her feet up soon, Jen said: “It was a pretty intense year for me and I’m most looking forward to spending time with my kids and my family coming out from the East Coast.

“The holidays are such a special time for us and they’ve always been since I was a little girl.

“And I really look forward to those moments when I can be with my sisters and just relax and have fun and create new memories.”

That’s a glass- half-full mentality if ever there was one.

Following the birth of Prince William, royal fans across the country rushed to offer their best wishes – but Princess Anne responded in her famed caustic manner.

King Charles, then Prince Charles, and his first wife Princess Diana welcomed William on the evening of June 24, 1982. Crowds gathered excitedly outside Buckingham Palace to celebrate and, the following morning, Charles and Diana introduced their little prince to the world on the steps of the Lindo Wing at London’s St Mary’s Hospital.

At the time, proud new dad Charles, then 33, gave the following intimate statement: “I am so thankful I was beside Diana’s bedside the whole time because I felt as though I’d shared deeply in the process of birth and as a result was rewarded by seeing a small creature who belonged to us even though he seemed to belong to everyone else as well.”

Indeed, the public fascination with the then-20-year-old Diana was such that her first son’s birth was met with scenes of jubilation – with many feeling a personal connection with the shy young princess. However, Princess Anne – who reportedly had a somewhat complicated relationship with her glamorous sister-in-law – reacted in a slightly more frosty manner…

After having travelled back from a New Mexico visit shortly before William’s birth, no-nonsense Anne was asked by reporters about the arrival of her baby nephew. Anne simply gave a cool six-word response: “I didn’t know she [Diana] had one.” When asked whether she thought too much fuss, The Princess Royal bluntly stated: “Yes.”

The Daily Express reports that, at the time, a Palace insider explained that Anne, known for her hardworking approach, had been feeling additional pressures – with her Royal engagements piling up while her brother and sister-in-law concentrated on new parenthood. This insider revealed: “Anne works very hard and sees her sister-in-law picking up the glory. She’s sick to her back teeth with it all.”

The reportedly difficult relationship between the two princesses was explored in season four of the hit Netflix series, The Crown, where Anne, played by Erin Doherty, can be seen lamenting that Diana’s charity work was given far more press attention than her own. In a heart-to-heart with her mother Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Coleman), the character sighs: “All she [Diana] has to do is put on a frock and she’s all over all the front pages and everyone falling over in shock at how wonderful she is.”

The two Royal women were indeed very different in temperament and interests, and reports would suggest a personality clash behind palace walls. In the eye-opening Channel 5 documentary Paxman on the Queen’s Children, royal author Richard Kay shed some light on why the sisters-in-law didn’t always see eye-to-eye.

He explained: “Princess Anne, she had no time for Diana. She didn’t like the way she went about her duty and the way she used the cameras and the media to promote herself, in her eyes. Anne had a much more traditional approach to monarchy and royal duty.”

Despite these early tensions, Prince William, now a father of three himself, is understood to enjoy a close relationship with his Aunt Anne – however, he has previously spoken out about her ‘terrifying’ side. During an appearance on Mike Tindall’s The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast, the Prince of Wales recalled how, during his childhood, his sporty aunt would race him around Balmoral.

Rather than let her young nephew win, however, Anne’s competitive side would end up getting the better of her. William remembered that Anne was ‘quite quick’ and that the ‘look that [she] had on [her] face was quite terrifying’.

Dame Zandra Rhodes, the dresser of Diana, Princess of Wales, has claimed that the royal got a ‘raw deal’.

British fashion designer, Zandra, 83, who is based in Bermondsey, south London, is famous for her bold designs and equally daring electric pink hair.

Her designs are often sported by the rich and famous, including Diana Ross and Nicole Richies.

But it was Princess Diana’s support that really helped raise Zandra’s profile, cementing her status as one of Britain’s greatest designers.

In conversation with The Times, Zandra shared a glimpse into her relationship with the royal, describing her as warm’, despite having a ‘raw deal’.

‘You can have all the riches in the world, but if you don’t have love, or don’t feel loved, you have very little,’ Zandra added. 

Her working relationship with Diana began in 1981 when the royal came into her London boutique with her friend (and later wife of Prince Andrew) Sarah Ferguson.  The pair browsed the shop like any other customers – despite Diana’s recent engagement to the then-Prince of Wales.

After the two friends perused the racks, Zandra received an unexpected call – it came from British Vogue, which was asking her to submit a design for Diana’s royal wedding dress.

While Zandra’s black corset sketch never became the wedding royal dress, it did end up in the possession of perhaps the next most famous Diana – Diana Ross.

And it was not the end of the road for the Princess and Zandra – the pair went on to work together five times in total.

In 1986, Diana returned to Zandra’s shop and picked out a black dress to be remade in pink. The garment became one of the statement pieces worn by Diana during an official visit to Japan that same year.

Zandra recalled the experience of working with Diana, saying: ‘You get let into the palace with this dress over your arm and you do a curtsy, and you bump into the children’s toys.’

She continued: ‘Happy wasn’t a word I would have associated with her, but she was very warm.

While she has experienced enormous success in her career, it hasn’t all been plain sailing for the designer, who opened her first shop in London in 1967 and is renowned for her imaginative use of colour and vivid prints.

The fashion and textile designer has been open about her health struggles, which started during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Zandra had just begun a yoga session in her flat with her best friend, artist Andrew Logan when she realised something was amiss.

‘We were lying there, on our little lilac mats, and my stomach felt full,’ she told the Daily Mail in 2021. ‘I thought, “It can’t be full — I haven’t eaten anything”.’

She went to her doctor, and then for tests, which revealed a tumour. Three months of chemotherapy, then immunotherapy followed, all during the first lockdown.

‘Right at the beginning… they said I’d probably got six months to live. I said, “What?!”, she shrieked recalling her shock. ‘I said, “I’ve got lots of projects coming up. I’ve got to last longer than that!”.

‘And then I had my treatment and they said I’d probably got at least two years. That gives me time to get myself together and get things done.’

‘What I don’t understand is why it didn’t worry me. I just had to pull myself together. The amount of work I’ve got to get through!

‘I’ve got 100 chests of clothes because I never sold my original designs so we’ve been cataloguing and repairing them.’

She added: ‘I’m consolidating my legacy. If I hadn’t got work, I wouldn’t have pulled through. Work keeps driving me forward. You have to get all the tasks done in time. Because of the lockdown, you weren’t allowed to have anyone with you at the clinic… I just got in an Uber and went.’

Despite the doctor’s initial prediction, Zandra has recently released her fifth book – Iconic: My Life in Fashion in 50 Objects.

After Princess Diana‘s tragic death, many have chronicled her life in works of fact and fiction.

But none has revealed the identity of one of her closest confidantes, Violet Collison, whom she affectionately called ‘Collie’.

The bond remained strong until the fatal car accident that took Diana’s life in 1997.

Only now, more than a decade since Collie’s death in 2013, is her relationship with the princess coming to light, as unseen letters go up for auction at Sworders at the end of this month.

‘Collie and Diana had this relationship until she died that goes over and beyond what a housekeeper would normally experience,’ the relative tells me.

Diana’s difficult relationship with her mother is well-documented. There were periods when they would not be in contact, while Collie was a constant.

‘When Diana and Charles were staying at Sandringham,’ the family member explains, Diana ‘used to try and escape — I think one of her boltholes was a little two-bedroom bungalow in a village two miles down the road [Collie’s home]’.

Over the weekend, the model and budding chef, 24, appeared to have hopped on the buzz cut train after years of having luscious locks.

In Instagram photos shared by his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham, 28, he was seen with a shaved head, wearing a white T-shirt and brown trousers.

Brooklyn also posted a picture of himself with the cropped style on his own Instagram account.

He didn’t caption the photo, which also showed him in a white T-shirt exposing his arm tattoos and posing with a bottle of sake.

W9 vous propose une soirée musicale exceptionnelle, “Ce soir on chante pour l’UNICEF, pour chaque enfant”,au profit du fond d’urgence de l’UNICEF. Depuis plus de 75 ans, l’UNICEF se bat pour les enfants et leurs familles au coeur des crises humanitaires, que ce soit actuellement sur le front de la guerre en Ukraine, dans les ruines du séisme en Turquie et en Syrie ou au coeur d’une sècheresse dévastatrice dans la corne de l’Afrique,les enfants sont toujours les premières victimes.Aux côtés de nombreux artistes, E.Gossuin et J.Anthony vous donnent rendez-vous pour se mobiliser, pour chaque enfant. Chacun des artistes partagera un duo unique avec un enfant, des moments de partages émouvants et inédits. Symbole de notre solidarité avec les enfants du monde, ces jeunes chanteurs feront leurs premiers pas sur scène. S’ils ont un peu le trac, ils sont surtout bourrés de talents et très fiers de s’impliquer pour l’UNICEF. À leurs côtés, des artistes que vous adorez : M.Pokora, K.Girac, A.Bent, Yanns, Anisha Louis et Enola, Nej, mais aussi P.Bruel, C.Badi, T.Arena, C.Capéo, et bien d’autres.
