The Crown’s Josh O’Connor admits he has no idea what King Charles thinks of his portrayal

Josh O’Connor would “love to know” what King Charles thought of his work on The Crown.

The 34-year-old actor played the then-Prince of Wales in seasons three and four of the Netflix regal drama and though he has never met the monarch – who has been undergoing cancer treatment this year – he has a “great affection” for him. Asked if he’d heard what the king made of his turn in The Crown, Josh told: “No, I’m the same as you. I’d love to know. I’ve not heard a thing. I guess he’s been quite busy.

“My heart goes out to him in these times, but I’ve said it many times, I have great affection for him. I don’t know him [but] for the person who I’ve done lots of research on, like a weird stalker. He’s done an awful lot of good, in spite of a pretty bizarre life.” The Challengers actor admitted he initially “wasn’t over excited” about playing Charles because the idea was “very daunting”, but ultimately looked at the role like just another character, rather than a portrayal of a real person.

He told Vanity Fair magazine’s Hollywood issue: “These are characters. When I started working on Charles, I wasn’t overly excited at the idea of playing a real person. The prospect of playing someone who exists, particularly someone who is present in our national psyche, was very daunting.

“The one film that I referenced in my head, that I loved, was Todd Haynes on Bob Dylan [‘I’m Not There’]. The reason I love that movie was the conceit that we don’t know who Bob Dylan is. Joe’s Bob Dylan is going to be very different to my Bob Dylan, which is going to be very different to my dad’s Bob Dylan. Whatever he is, let’s put eight actors playing different aspects of Dylan and let’s present it. That’s filmmaking at its finest.

“So with Charles, it was like, I did the research, everything that helps put together a script, but I never see it as having played Prince Charles. I just don’t want to feel guilty. This is how I excuse myself.” The God’s Own Country actor previously admitted he felt “spiritually lost” after taking on the role of the Prince of Wales.

Speaking in a previous interview, O’Connor commented: “I felt spiritually lost, but it was a combination [of things]. At the time I was living in New York – I’m a country bumpkin who likes gardening, and that wasn’t really the best match. But we’d just come out of the pandemic, and The Crown had come out, and there’d been this big hoo-ha around The Crown, but I hadn’t really been outdoors to see what that was like and what the impact of that was. And suddenly, there I was walking down the street, and people were stopping me, and I hadn’t experienced that before to that level, that degree. So there was a kind of real shape-shifting going on and a real element of trying to understand where I sat in the world.”

However, Josh could be in luck as it was claimed in 2022 that the now King Charles had seen The Crown which focused on his relationship with Diana, Princess of Wales. Royal author Katie Nicholl said on True Royalty TV, she said: “[King] Charles watched it and stopped watching it at the last series because he felt that it got too close to the bone.” However, it’s claimed that the late Queen Elizabeth “was never going to watch any of those herself,” but members of her family had.

  • King Charles’ jaw-dropping home transformation as he tackled run-down pile

King Charles’ jaw-dropping home transformation as he tackled run-down pile

When King Charles bought Highgrove House in 1980, it marked the beginning of a life-long passion project that not only tapped into his love of nature, but also provided him with a rural retreat away from the formality of London life. Although he was already passionate about nature, Highgrove was where Charles’ love of gardening truly blossomed.

“In some strange way, when I took on Highgrove, I knew what I wanted to do, even though I had absolutely no experience of gardening or farming and the only trees I had planted had been official ones in very official holes,” the King writes in Highgrove: Portrait Of An Estate.

He created a pioneering kitchen garden at the nine-bedroom Georgian property and with the help of the naturalist Dame Miriam Rothschild, planted a world-renowned wildflower meadow on its 347-acre Gloucestershire estate.

“I knew I wanted to take care of the place in a very personal way and to leave it, one day, in a far better condition than I had found it,” he once said. “This was unlikely to be very difficult because everything was pretty dishevelled and run-down anyway!”

A passion project for more than four decades, Charles has described Highgrove as “one very small attempt to heal the appalling short-sighted damage done to the soil, the landscape and our souls”.

At Highgrove, Charles also realised his dream of creating Home Farm – now one of the largest organic farms in the UK and the source of ingredients used in Duchy Originals products sold in Waitrose and around the world.

Although it has provided the King with a much-needed sanctuary for more than four decades, Highgrove is by no means a high-security bolthole for him to hide away in. In 1996 he opened its gardens to the public and currently welcomes an incredible 40,000 visitors each year.

“One of my great joys is to see the pleasure that the garden can bring to many of the visitors, and that everybody seems to find some part of it that is special to them,” he has said: “My enduring hope is that those who visit the garden may find something to inspire, excite, fascinate or soothe them.”

Of all the gardens at Highgrove, the four-acre wildflower meadow in bloom is arguably the most breathtaking. TV gardener Monty Don has described it as “Highgrove’s greatest achievement”, explaining, “This is not just because it is astonishingly beautiful in itself and on a scale that is sweepingly grand, but because of the influence it has had across the whole world of gardening.”

In summer, the meadow hums with the sound of bees and other insects among about 130 species of wildflower. It inspired the creation of 60 Coronation Meadows across the UK to mark the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.

There are other, equally enchanting gardens to explore at Highgrove. The Carpet Garden, based around a dazzling mosaic-embellished fountain, is a riot of colour that was inspired by the patterns on two Turkish rugs owned by the King.

The more rustic Cottage Garden is filled with pinks, delphiniums and the heady scent of apricot-hued Jude The Obscure roses. The garden is overlooked by an Indian bean tree given to Prince Charles on his 50th birthday by Sir Elton John.

But one Highgrove garden, the Kitchen Garden, is as practical as it is pretty. With green-fingered Camilla by his side, Charles has, says Monty, been able to create a kitchen garden that “looks superbly decorative, combining fruit trees, flowers, herbs and vegetables, but is above all a hardworking plot, producing seasonal organic produce for the household.”

Another highlight of the gardens is the spectacular Thyme Walk, a fragrant avenue featuring multiple varieties of thyme interspersed with marjoram and lined with intriguingly clipped yew trees that are thought to be the inspiration for Charles’ new Topiary Garden at Sandringham.

As well as being a retreat for the monarch and his wife, Highgrove was also a haven for Charles’ sons William and Harry in their younger years. The lush greenery of its gardens provided the perfect playground for the brothers and childhood photographs show them laughing while playing with Charles and their late mother Diana.

In 1988, Charles built a magical treehouse for William and Harry to play in. Nestled in a fern-filled area of the gardens known as the Stumpery, it has a thatched roof and an adorable, holly leaf-shaped door.

In 2015, it was refurbished for the King’s grandchildren to enjoy. As the princes grew up, another secret space provided privacy – although it perhaps was not quite as wholesome as their father’s treehouse. Writing in his memoir Spare, Harry reveals that, in the years following his mother’s death, he and his brother would escape to Highgrove’s substantial cellar.

    william

Jokingly calling it “Club H”, Harry recalls how the windowless space became “the perfect hangout for a teenager”. “It smelt of damp, earth, stone and moss. It smelt of cut flowers, clean dirt… and maybe a hint of beer,” Harry writes.

The ownership of the Duchy of Cornwall was passed on to William when Charles became King, which means that he is now effectively his father’s landlord.

But with the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children happily settled at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, it is likely Charles and Camilla will continue to enjoy Highgrove’s natural delights for many years to come. For those keen on a burst of colour, look no further than Highgrove’s Sundial Garden, which is at its vibrant best in the summer months.

    highgrove

Throughout June and July, visitors can marvel at the dazzling display of blue, pink and purple delphiniums – King Charles’ favourite flowers. At the centre is the stone sundial that gives the garden its name. A gift from the 10th Duke of Beaufort, it is inscribed with the words, “A shadow round about my face, the sunny hours of day will trace”.

The wonders of Highgrove do not end there. King Charles has a secret woodland retreat – a fairy-tale cottage called The Sanctuary, situated in the estate’s arboretum. The hideaway has a pointed roof and dramatic columns. It was built in 1999 using natural cob, a mixture of Highgrove clay and barley straw, and is a place of “quiet contemplation”, surrounded by varieties of acer, beech and cherry tree.

Off limits to visitors, it is believed that only King Charles and a select handful of his close friends hold the key.

David Beckham was every inch the doting husband as he lavished praise on Victoria Beckham, following her showstopper at Paris Fashion Week.

Overwhelmed with pride, he took to Instagram saying: “Take your Bow we are so proud of you x The biggest and best show yet we love you @victoriabeckham @brooklynpeltzbeckham @romeobeckham @romeobeckham @cruzbeckham #HarperSeven.”

David’s adoration for his Spice Girl turned fashion mogul wife is no secret, especially given his excitement last month over an upcoming Netflix series about Victoria’s life by his production studio.

The football icon can’t hide his enthusiasm, sharing: “I’m really excited about this one with Victoria, because she is an amazing woman.”

David credits Victoria’s formidable strength, sheer passion, and endurance in the face of an unforgiving industry: “She is a strong, driven, passionate person that has gone from being a Spice Girl, as you all know, and to be respected in this industry is very tough.”

He expressed immense admiration for Victoria’s dedication, remarking: “It’s very tough, and she’s worked hard for the last 17, 18 years on her business, and all of a sudden she’s having the success that she really deserves, and no one really sees what she does.”, reports OK!.

Despite the gloomy weather in Paris, Victoria Beckham had her entire family by her side for her glamourous fashion event last Friday. The star of the show, her 13 year old daughter Harper, stunned onlookers in a bespoke, soft pink satin gown made by Victoria herself; she was a vision of youthful elegance.

David Beckham and Harper’s brother Romeo, 22, sheltered her from the rain with oversized umbrellas as they arrived.

The glitzy affair was also graced by Victoria’s sons, Brooklyn, 25, with his bride Nicola Peltz, 29, and the always chic Cruz, 19, who proudly introduced Jackie Apostel, his new Brazilian singer girlfriend, to all. Jackie shone in an eye-catching £990 white satin dress from Victoria’s latest creations.

A source divulged to the Daily Mail that Harper’s custom-made dress featured a sophisticated strappy look complete with a contemporary diamond cut-out detail at the front, adding: “Harper is too young to wear a dress from Victoria’s range, so she decided to make her very own bespoke one and it’s beautiful.”

On the significant day, David shared an endearing family snapshot, humorously admitting that organising his three younger offspring for a photo felt like ‘herding cats’ as he prepared them for the onset of his wife’s major showcase at Paris Fashion Week.

Who are David Beckham’s parents? Feud with dad Ted and mum Sandra’s sacrifice

David Beckham is one of the most famous UK celebs, but there is very little known about his parents.

David Beckham is one of the world’s most famous footballers, but who are his mum and dad?

The 48-year-old is an icon when it comes to the world of sports, as well as in his love life with fashion designer and former Spice Girls star Victoria Beckham.

The power couple are still at the top of their game with four children and just last year the duo gave Netflix subscribers a sneak-peek into their life.

While many know of his successes during his adulthood, it is the early years of his life that some know very little about.

    Who are David Beckham’s parents?

David Beckham grew up in Leytonstone with his dad Ted, mum Sandra and his two sisters Lynne and Joanne.

The co-owner of Inter Miami inherited his passion for Manchester United from his dad and trained at the Bobby Charlton School.

Kitchen fitter Ted and hairdresser Sandra backed David’s dreams of becoming a footballer and after he signed for the youth team at 14, they would travel hundreds of miles every weekend to see him play.

Speaking on his Disney+ documentary Save Our Squad, David said: “My dad was my inspiration, I wanted to win for him.

“I wanted to play well for him and my mum as well, of course. My mum was the one that was driving me to training, to games, when my dad was working.

“I, as a parent now, realise how much my parents gave up for me.”

However, their relationship was fractured in 2002 when his parents’ marriage broke down after 33 years and David and his sisters blamed their dad for the break up.

In his autobiography, Beckham: My World, the former footballer gave a sneak peak into what their relationship was like.

He wrote: “He loves my mum but he’s never been affectionate to her in front of my two sisters and me. He’s quite hard-faced and can be sarcastic.

“He also gets fired up easily… The quality I like least in myself is my short temper. I think I get it from my dad.”

One year later and their father-son relationship suffered another blow as David left Manchester United for Real Madrid which Ted learned of through his agent.

The pair were arguing at the time because of it and as a result, Ted wasn’t invited to watch David sign for the club, stating they had “hardly spoken”.

What made matters worse was the publication of Ted’s book which talked of David’s personal life and how his fame had contributed to the split with him and Sandra.

Ted wrote: “All the hype, all the stress, all the attention – it wasn’t a world we were used to and it was very tough. By the end, all we had in common was football. We just drifted apart.”

Their relationship only started to heal in 2007 after Ted suffered a near-fatal heart attack with David flying home from the US to be by his side.

It seems the pair are closer than ever now as two years ago, David was his dad’s best man at his wedding to solicitor Hilary Meredith.

They wore matching black suits at the ceremony which took place in Temple with smiles all round.

David is also still very close with his mum as he took Sandra to this year’s Wimbledon with them spotted in the royal box in Centre Court watching the women’s singles match between Daria Kasatkina and Jodie Burrage.

Beckham premieres on Wednesday, October 4 on Netflix.

  • Princess Diana’s lover James Hewitt says BBC’s Martin Bashir is a toad who made him world’s most hated

Princess Diana’s lover James Hewitt says BBC’s Martin Bashir is a toad who made him world’s most hated

Princess Diana’s former lover James Hewitt has hit out at former BBC reporter Martin Bashir and claims he made him “the most hated man in the world”.

The former British Army cavalry officer, who disclosed a five-year extra-marital affair with Diana, which ended in 1991, has slammed Bashir for taking advantage of the late princess in a new interview.

He claims Bashir was a “toad” and tricked Diana into confirming the affair took place in the infamous 1995 Panorama interview that recently saw Bashir the subject of an inquiry.

Mr Hewitt told the Sun : “I think the chap needs to seriously search his conscience. To do it by deception is unforgivable and there is very little road back from that. I don’t know him personally, but I think any underhandedness — and particularly if it’s taking advantage of someone’s weakness and being a toad — is wrong. It did affect me and it had a huge effect.

“I hope people realise that the whole of the programme should be seen for what it was — and that was to deceive somebody into saying things and doing things that they may not necessarily have been willing to say had all the facts been known. It was not good for anybody except BBC figures and Martin Bashir’s career. It wasn’t exposing anything, it was just using lies and half-truths.”

In the infamous chat with Bashir, Diana discussed her break-up with the then-Prince Charles. She told Bashir: “Yes, I was in love with him, but I was very let down.”

A recent inquiry found Bashir used “deceitful means” to bag the interview, including drop-feeding the princess false claims about her friends and staff.

Mr Hewitt, now 66, now hopes the inquiry’s findings have given the public a better understanding of the situation and put the story in a different context.

He claims the backlash turned him into an international pariah at the time and permanently damaged his reputation. And he insists he first met Diana two years after Prince Harry was born.

Meanwhile, his dream of having children of his own has been ruined by his being known as Diana’s lover, and branded a “cad”. He told the paper it is difficult to see it happening now and he believes he was once the most hated man in the world.

Mr Hewitt has in recent years suffered some serious health issues. In 2017 he suffered a stroke after open heart surgery. He was given a 20 per cent chance of surviving after he contracted an infection which affected a valve in his heart. He was left paralysed on his left-hand side and claims it took half a year for the feeling to return.

He also suffered a septic embolism and lost a clementine-sized ball from the frontal lobe of his brain, spending five months in hospital after being told he could have died if he’d remained untreated for one more day.

An independent investigation in 2021 by Supreme Court Judge John Dyson found Bashir used deceitful methods in securing his Panorama interview with Diana.

A report into the interview concluded that Bashir acted inappropriately and in serious breach of BBC guidelines.

It read: “I have also concluded that, without justification, the BBC covered up in its press logs such facts as it had been able to establish about how Mr Bashir secured the interview and failed to mention the issue at all on any news programme and thereby fell short of the high standards of integrity and transparency which are its hallmark.”

The now infamous and explosive interview in 1995 featured Diana saying: “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”

She Had DRIVER Cut the Brake Lines…’ Kate Middleton Exposed Camilla’s Dark Involvement in Rigging Princess Diana’s Vehicle, Causing Her Death

In a shocking turn of events, allegations have surfaced claiming that Kate Middleton has exposed a dark secret involving Camilla, Queen Consort, and the tragic death of Princess Diana. The allegations suggest that Camilla had a driver cut the brake lines of Diana’s vehicle, leading to the fatal crash in Paris in 1997. These incendiary claims have sent shockwaves through royal circles and reignited discussions about the unresolved mysteries surrounding Diana’s death, sparking outrage and disbelief among the public and royal fans alike.

The rumors first began circulating when Kate reportedly revealed this explosive information in a private conversation. Sources close to the royal family have suggested that Kate, burdened by the weight of the royal legacy and its associated scandals, felt compelled to speak out. Her remarks were allegedly made in the context of a larger discussion about the pressures of being in the royal spotlight, where family dynamics and hidden animosities can intertwine in devastating ways.

If true, these allegations paint a deeply troubling picture of the royal family, particularly regarding Camilla’s character and her relationship with Diana. For years, Camilla has been viewed through a controversial lens due to her involvement with Charles during his marriage to Diana. This latest accusation, suggesting that Camilla could have had a direct hand in the tragic death of her rival, raises questions about the lengths to which individuals may go to protect their interests and maintain power within the royal family.

Diana’s death has been the subject of numerous conspiracy theories since it occurred, with many believing that foul play was involved. The notion that someone as high-profile as Camilla could be implicated in such a heinous act adds a sensational layer to the ongoing narrative. Such a revelation could potentially alter public perception of the royal family, particularly as it pertains to their handling of past grievances and conflicts.

The implications of Kate’s allegations could also have far-reaching consequences for her own position within the royal family. By openly accusing Camilla of involvement in Diana’s death, Kate risks alienating herself from an established member of the royal family, potentially leading to further divisions within an already complicated family dynamic. This precarious balance of loyalty and truth presents a formidable challenge, especially given the media scrutiny that accompanies any revelations within the royal household.

Furthermore, if these allegations are substantiated, they could lead to renewed investigations into the circumstances surrounding Diana’s death. The public has long sought answers, and new revelations could prompt legal or official inquiries that might uncover hidden truths or, conversely, further entrench existing narratives. The royal family has historically been adept at managing its image, but this explosive accusation could test their ability to maintain control over the narrative.

In the broader context, these claims touch upon deeper themes of power, jealousy, and the often-brutal reality of life within the monarchy. Diana was beloved not only for her charitable work but also for her relatability and vulnerability in the face of immense pressure. The juxtaposition of her tragic end against the backdrop of royal intrigue reveals the complexities of life as a public figure, where personal vendettas can have dire consequences.

As the story unfolds, public reaction has been polarized. Many have rallied around Diana’s legacy, viewing her as a martyr of royal tradition and an emblem of the struggles faced by women within the institution. Others have expressed skepticism regarding the veracity of Kate’s claims, viewing them as another sensationalized chapter in the ongoing saga of the British royal family.

In conclusion, the explosive allegations that Kate Middleton has exposed Camilla’s supposed involvement in rigging Princess Diana’s vehicle present a sensational and troubling narrative that reignites the conversation about Diana’s death. These claims highlight the complexities of family relationships within the royal household and the lengths to which individuals may go to protect their interests. As the public grapples with this shocking revelation, the need for transparency and accountability within the royal family becomes increasingly apparent. The enduring legacy of Princess Diana remains a potent reminder of the personal struggles faced by those in the public eye and the darker aspects of royal life that continue to captivate and horrify audiences around the world.

The 90s is the new retro and it is all pre-millennium all over again.

    Spice Girls back

The Spice Girls have announced they are back with their first tour for a decade.

Six UK stadium dates in June 2019 are confirmed.

    No Victoria Beckham

However, it will not be a quintet as Victoria Beckham will not be taking part.

This leaves Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Melanie Chisholm.

The press release said Victoria would not join the girls on tour due to “business commitments”.

She runs a multi-million pound fashion label.

In a statement, Victoria said: “Being in the Spice Girls was a hugely important part of my life and I wish my girls so much love and fun as they go back on tour, I know they will put on an amazing show and the fantastic fans past and present are going to have a wonderful time!”

    Announcement on social media

Details of the reunion tour was revealed in a video on social media on Monday, Nov. 6, 2018.

The video is in the style of a news bulletin, before the foursome break out into song.

    World tour to follow

The group will kick off the tour at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium on June 1, 2019, with tickets for all dates going on sale on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018.

They will also perform in Coventry, Sunderland, Edinburgh and Bristol, finishing at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Mel B also announced on Monday that there would also be a world tour to follow, adding that she still hoped Victoria would feature in some of the shows.

“It’s just the four of us that are fully confirmed, but Vic might join us at some point,” Mel B said. “It’d be a shame if she didn’t.”

    Hint of reunion

In February, the five members posted a photo to social media, saying they were planning on new projects together.

Rumours began circulating with suggestions it could be a new tour or record.

The last performance as a fivesome was at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Spice Girls split in 2000 after performing for two years as a four piece, following Geri’s departure.

All five returned for a reunion tour in 2007.

But the hot sauce brand owner, budding chef and photographer recently put the record straight.

He told Grazia: ‘Obviously I am one. But I couldn’t help how I was born, at all.’

While he understands why the public can feel irked by nepo babies, Brooklyn said he tries to ignore the ‘rubbish’ people say rather than dwell on it.

He added: ‘There’s always going to be people that say rubbish. But as long as you do something that makes you happy and you’re kind to people, that’s all that matters.’

‘I’m always gonna get it, no matter what I do. And I’m fine with that. It makes me work harder, because I’m like, I’m gonna prove these people wrong.’

Brooklyn has been in the limelight since the day he was born, following in the footsteps of his famous parents Posh and Becks.

The former model announced the launch of his new hot sauce brand last month and his family have been in full support.

David shared a snap of him enjoying the sauce with his tacos, while brother Cruz posted a photo of the sauce in his burger.

Cloud 23, named after the No.23 jersey his father wore at Real Madrid and LA Galaxy, comes in two variants – Sweet Jalapeno and Hot Habanero.

‘Then Covid happened, I met my wife and started cooking for her and just fell in love with it. And now it’s just something that just takes my mind off of things.’

GOOD NEWS: Princess Diana’s Doctor Made INSANE Announcement “When I arrived, Diana was still alive, but someone had…”

In a shocking revelation, a former physician closely associated with Princess Diana has made bold claims, sparking renewed interest and debate over the tragic circumstances surrounding her untimely death. The doctor, who attended to Diana’s health in the years leading up to her fatal accident in Paris in 1997, has now gone on record, pointing to a “hidden culprit” as responsible for her death. His statements have added fuel to the numerous conspiracy theories that have persisted for decades, raising questions about the true cause of the princess’s demise.

Princess Diana’s death has always been surrounded by speculation, with many believing that there may have been foul play involved rather than the official explanation of a car accident caused by a high-speed chase and paparazzi. According to reports, the doctor did not name specific individuals but alluded to “powerful entities” who he claims were interested in silencing Diana due to her outspoken nature and growing global influence. These statements, vague yet suggestive, have generated considerable media attention, as they align with long-standing rumors about Diana’s estrangement from certain influential figures and her rumored plans for the future.

Supporters of the theory argue that Diana’s outspoken nature, her advocacy for humanitarian causes, and her immense popularity posed a threat to the status quo. Her high-profile relationships, coupled with her controversial views, led some to suspect that Diana’s presence became “too powerful” for certain circles to ignore. The doctor’s statements suggest that her “accidental” death may have been orchestrated to prevent her from using her platform to bring about further change.

This latest claim from the physician brings attention back to the thorough investigations conducted by French and British authorities, which concluded that Diana’s death was an accident caused by driver error and the relentless pursuit of paparazzi. The inquiries also noted that her driver, Henri Paul, was under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs at the time of the crash, which contributed to the tragedy. However, Diana’s doctor has reportedly questioned the reliability of these findings, hinting at “gaps” in the investigation.

Public reactions have been mixed. While some have dismissed the doctor’s statements as speculative, others believe it’s important to re-examine Diana’s death in light of his comments. The doctor’s statements, although not backed by concrete evidence, underscore the enduring mystery and emotional impact surrounding Diana’s life and death. As Princess Diana remains an iconic figure worldwide, the renewed interest in her death ensures that debates will continue, perhaps indefinitely, as people seek answers to the questions surrounding her legacy.
