Kim wore her brunette tresses slicked back into a neat updo and accessorised with an array of silver earrings.

She elevated her natural beauty with a sultry palette of makeup, including a smoky eyeshadow look.

Meanwhile, David put on a dapper display in a grey suit as he lovingly held hands with his wife for the photo.

Details about how Romeo and his new girlfriend Kim met are not explicitly documented, however Kim has been linked to certain social circles and is thought to have had a friendship with Romeo’s older brother, Brooklyn.

In the last few weeks, Romeo and Kim have enjoyed a lunch date at Fiume in Battersea, London and shared videos and photos of each other playing and walking with dogs.

Kim also used to date Rocco Ritchie, the son of Guy Ritchie and Madonna back in 2016.

While the couple appear to be smitten, it comes just weeks after Romeo was spotted looking similarly loved-up with Gray Sorrenti last month.

He was seen packing on the PDA with the photographer during a romantic stroll in New York City, confirming romance rumours surrounding the pair that first began in September.

Romeo is now enjoying spending time with Kim and a source told The Sun: ‘Romeo is young and single and is happily playing the field. He had a lot of fun with Gray and now he’s enjoying his dates with Kim. She is no stranger to the spotlight and previously dated Madonna’s son Rocco Ritchie.

‘Kim and Romeo were out at Chiltern Firehouse on Tuesday night and Wednesday, where they hung out until the early hours the following day.

‘Romeo is good looking, talented and very charming so it’s not hard to see why so many women are keen to bag a date with him.’

Romeo and Kim were seen heading home from their cosy evening at London restaurant on Tuesday, making separate exits, before she drove the pair home.

Like Romeo, Kim has also followed in her father’s footsteps, working as DJ like her dad Alex Turnbull, who also was a member of band 23 Skidoo and founder of hip-hop label, Ronin Record, while her grandparents were artists William Turbull and Kim Lim.

  • The truth behind Prince William using Diana’s engagement ring to propose to Kate – as Prince Harry says rumours he gave it to his brother are ‘absolutely rubbish’

The truth behind Prince William using Diana’s engagement ring to propose to Kate – as Prince Harry says rumours he gave it to his brother are ‘absolutely rubbish’

After Princess Diana‘s tragic death in 1997, it was only natural for her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, to choose a personal item of hers as a reminder of their mother.

Harry reportedly selected Diana’s Garrard sapphire engagement ring, while William opted for her Cartier Tank Française watch.

In 2010, it is believed the brothers swapped items, so William could use the ring to propose to Kate Middleton. Later, Harry gave the luxurious timepiece to Meghan Markle.

However, in his bombshell biography Spare, released last year, the Duke of Sussex branded these reports ‘absolutely rubbish’.

Instead, Harry claimed William was already in possession of their mother’s ring when he proposed to Kate, so he was never asked to give it up.

One of the most famous pieces of jewellery in history, the Garrard sapphire and diamond engagement ring was purchased by Charles for Diana in 1981. It cost £28,000 and is now valued at upwards of £300,000

Additionally, Harry said he was unaware of William’s intention to marry Kate until the engagement was publicly announced.

‘Soon after we returned to Britain the Palace announced that Willy was going to marry. November 2010,’ the Prince wrote.

‘News to me. All that time together in Lesotho, he’d never mentioned it.

‘The papers published florid stories about the moment I realised Will and Kate were well matched, the moment I appreciated the depth of their love and thus decided to gift Willy the ring I’d inherited from Mummy, the legendary sapphire, a tender moment between brothers, a bonding moment for all three of us, and absolute rubbish: none of it ever happened.’

Harry went on to deny ever asking for the piece of jewellery after Diana’s death and wrote: ‘I never gave Willy that ring because it wasn’t mine to give. He already had it. He’d asked for it after Mummy died, and I’d been more than happy to let it go.’

One of the most famous pieces of jewellery in history, the Garrard sapphire and diamond engagement ring, was purchased by Charles for Diana in 1981. It cost £28,000 and is now valued at upwards of £300,000.

The ring, inspired by Queen Victoria‘s sapphire brooch from 1840, which she wore as her ‘something blue’ on her wedding day, symbolised marriage, family and love.

When presented with various options, Diana and Charles reportedly selected this ring together, as it complemented her blue eyes.

The choice of a catalogue ring rather than a custom-designed piece broke royal tradition, making it possible for others to purchase the same engagement ring.

In another twist, Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, told the Mirror that he was present when the brothers selected the items to remember their mother by.

Paul claimed: ‘Harry said to me, “I always remember holding Mummy’s hand and that ring hurting me because it was so big”.

‘And that’s why, when the boys came to Kensington Palace, I said to them, you must take something of your Mother’s. You must take something to remind yourself of your time here at Kensington Palace and your mother’s life.’

The former royal employee claimed that William asked to keep Diana’s Cartier watch, which had been a present from her father on her 21st birthday, while Harry chose her engagement ring, which has now been worn by Kate for almost 14 years.

What’s more, Paul says that William was ‘happy with the arrangement’.

Diana wore her beloved Cartier Tank Française on several occasions, including a 1997 visit to London’s Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Temple and an engagement at the British Lung Foundation that same year.

At the time, the yellow gold watch was priced at £17,800. Harry later gave it to Meghan, who has worn it countless times, often stacked with a Cartier Love bracelet.

It is a clear favourite from her inherited collection.

Victoria Beckham reveals the real reason why she never smiled in pictures: ‘I was so uncomfortable’

Victoria Beckham has admitted that the reason she always used to look so stern in pictures is because she was self-conscious about her skin.

Over the years, the fashion designer, 50, became synonymous for her steely pout, often failing to crack a smile at many a public event.

Victoria has long been open about her insecurity with her ‘problematic’ skin, having suffered with acne since her teens, and struggled soaring to fame in her twenties while having skin issues.

And in a new interview with The Telegraph, Victoria reflected on feeling ‘so uncomfortable’ when taking photos as she didn’t feel happy within herself to break out into a smile.

During the chat, Victoria – who has received the publication’s inaugural Beauty Brand of the Year award – told how she sought advice from skincare experts, with the fashion designer now following a strict routine to ensure her skin stays clear.

As she reflected on being acutely self-conscious about her looks, Victoria remarked: ‘probably I did look stern in a lot of pictures, but I was so uncomfortable’.

And it wasn’t just her lack of public smiles that were a consequence of her skin problems, but her strict diet too.

Victoria has a famously limited diet, with husband David Beckham previously revealing that she’s eaten the same meal everyday for 25 years – grilled fish and steamed vegetables.

Explaining her decision to eat a very specific diet, Victoria added: ‘It was because of my skin that I became very careful about what I ate’, with the star cutting out meat and wheat among others.

These days, Victoria is much more comfortable in her skin and even offers up a warm smile on many an occasion.

In fact she’s so relaxed about her looks that she revealed how she now even feels comfortable enough to head to glam events with very little make-up on.

She remarked: ‘If you’d told me a few years ago I’d step on to a red carpet to pick up an award wearing only a bit of concealer and no foundation, I’d have thought you were mad, but that’s what I did last week.’

The mother-of-five told how she’s found getting older genuinely liberating, admitting that there was once a time when she used to ‘scroll through comments’ about herself, but these days, she simply doesn’t ‘have the time’.

As she reflected on being acutely self-conscious about her looks, Victoria remarked: 'probably I did look stern in a lot of pictures, but I was so uncomfortable' [pictured in 2000]

Victoria shot to fame alongside Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Melanie C as part of the Spice Girls in the late 1990s.

They became the best-selling girl group of all time, and Victoria later had a brief solo career before going on into the world of fashion.

But the star – who is also known for her marriage to footballer David – recently admitted that the idea of fame doesn’t really appeal now.

She told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: ‘I suppose it used to be fun to go out and be chased by paparazzi walking down Bond Street – and you would dress knowing you were going to get that. I don’t want that anymore.

‘I’ve been doing this too long. I suppose I did when I was growing up but, nowadays, there’s just too much going on; too busy; too many kids to worry about. I woke up at 50, and I gave a s*** less.’

As the King turns 76 today, BRIAN HOEY looks at some of his previous birthdays when celebrations were definitely NOT in order

As the King celebrates his birthday on November 14, alongside his wife, Queen Camilla, will he also perhaps reflect on what might have been. It could just as easily have been Diana as his Queen if his mother Queen Elizabeth II had had her way.

As heir to the throne at the time, Charles had to seek the permission of Her Majesty to marry, as all those in the line of succession had to. He might have followed the earlier example of his sister, Princess Anne, who when asked how difficult it was, replied: ‘Not half as difficult as asking permission to get divorced.’ Which they both were required to do at some time.

These days, Anne is so far down the line that it isn’t necessary for her to ask anyone’s permission.

A royal birthday still attracts a lot of publicity, from newspapers and television, which is then lapped up by the public. It seems nearly everyone wants to know every detail of Royal Family life.

And if there is any spice in the story, so much the better. When Charles was still Prince of Wales, serving the longest apprenticeship ever by an heir to the throne (he was over 70 before he became monarch), he was allowed the comparative freedom that he lost the day he donned the crown.

Charles was regarded as the most eligible and famous bachelor in the world and when he married Lady Diana Spencer, in July 1981, making her the Princess of Wales, and she became the most famous woman on the planet.

But, as we now know, it wasn’t to last. Charles never stopped talking about Camilla Parker Bowles and his friendship with her, even when at last he married Diana. She accepted this, knowing that to object would place her at odds with the Royal Household, as well as against the most powerful family in the world.

On the day Charles and Diana married they became the most photographed couple ever.

However, there were problems almost from the beginning . And, contrary to the general belief, it wasn’t all Charles’s fault. There was trouble on both asides. Five years after they married, Diana resumed a relationship with a former old boyfriend, James Hewit, in 1986.

Much later, Charles admitted that the love of his life had always been Camilla, and they began another affair. It would never end. To many people throughout the world, it remains one of the greatest love stories ever.

He said at the time that his relationship with Mrs Parker Powles was ‘non-negotiable’.

If there has ever been a year that Charles would describe as the worst in his life, it could well be 1992. His birthday that year was not a time for celebration. Perhaps relief was all he felt now that at last it was all over. This was when he and Diana finally separated.

When the divorce was finalised, the financial settlement was never revealed, as with all royal matters. But it was believed to be around £15million.

There had always been a great deal of speculation about what went wrong with the Waleses. Was it Charles never really having loved her? The massive age difference between them – he was 13 years older than Diana. Or maybe the difference in their upbringing.

Charles had grown up used to the rigid discipline of Palace life and all it involved. With Diana, even though hers was an aristocratic background, there was a certain amount of informality in the Spencer family that was missing with the House of Windsor. She was a tactile, affectionate woman while Charles never really forgets who and what he is or was.

The only bright light being that the way was now clear for him to marry Camilla at last, which he did on April 9, 2005, in a civil ceremony in Windsor Guildhall, followed by a blessing by the Archbishop of Canterbury at Windsor Castle. His mother, the Queen, did not attend the civil ceremony as she believed it would be inappropriate as the Head of the Church of England.

A few years earlier there was another tragedy that had caused Charles to try to forget the past. Diana was involved in a car crash in Paris in 1997, and died immediately.

There was international mourning for her and the same amount of derision and scorn aimed at Charles who was blamed, unfairly, by many millions of men and women. All watched by a worldwide audience.

If there was one thing both Charles and Diana would be jointly proud of it was the fact that they produced two wonderful sons, William and Harry, though Harry, as a typical younger son, is causing certain problems at the moment.

They both love their father and understand the difficulties both parents faced in their early days.

William is working with his father, helping as much as possible and preparing for his own future role.

Anyway, things appear to have settled down for the Royal Family, at last. Charles is behaving impeccably as monarch and has recently completed an arduous tour of Australia while continuing to recover from his cancer diagnosis.

He deserves to enjoy this birthday, more than we know. He’s hard working. He never stops. Now is the time for him to relax, with his wife, and Queen, alongside him. And may we join with many more people, everywhere, in wishing him a Respectful Happy Birthday.

Last year, Kardashian wore a dress by the star to attend the Victoria Beckham Spring/Summer 2024 womenswear show in Paris, which later prompted Beckham to make a version of the dress for herself.

“Now I’m sure a few of you recognize this dress. This was the dress that I created exclusively for Kim to wear to my last show in Paris,” Beckham explained to her followers in a selfie video of herself in the gown in October.

Beckham added that Kardashian had looked “incredible” in the dress, before revealing it had made her want the dress for herself.

The day Diana’s birthday present to Charles backfired: As the king turns 76 we recall the princess’s famous dance with Wayne Sleep in 1985 (as documented in The Crown) that left her husband unimpressed…

Throughout Princess Diana‘s 15-year marriage to Prince Charles there were dozens of instances where their clashing personalities were displayed for all to see.

But perhaps the most high-profile example was when the princess danced with ballet star Wayne Sleep as a surprise present for her husband’s 37th birthday in 1985.

They performed a three-minute dance to Billy Joel‘s 80s hit Uptown Girl to uproarious applause and eight curtain calls from the 2,500 VIP-only audience.

But despite the crowd’s reaction, Charles did not stand. When the 25-year-old Diana left the stage and went to him enthused and desperately wanting his approval, he simply said ‘well done, darling’, and turned to talk to someone else.

No video footage exists of the now stuff-of-legend moment, and only a few pictures were taken by the in-house photographer who swore to never release them (although he did sell them in 1995 for around $250,000).

The performance became so iconic that it was since recreated in The Crown, where Charles was depicted as being furious at his wife’s ‘grotesque, mortifying display’.

Here MailOnline looks back at one of Diana’s most beloved stunts and how it revealed to everyone she and Charles were very different people.

It was Diana’s decision to do the secret performance with Sleep at the annual VIP show for Friends of Covent Garden at London‘s Royal Opera House in December 1985.

Sleep at the time was a well-known British dancer who performed for some years with the Royal Ballet, but when he was approached by Diana he expressed scepticism that they could perform together due to his small 5ft 2in frame.

But they quickly became friends with Sleep saying they bonded over ‘schoolboy humour’ after Diana, who became a lifelong friend, called him a ‘naughty boy’ after he confessed to having a ‘very late night’ during their first early morning meeting.

Diana had studied classical ballet as a child but grew too tall at 5ft 10in to dance at the highest level but she still loved dancing throughout her life and was a supporter of the English National Ballet.

Years after the famous performance, Sleep wrote in The Guardian: ‘She loved the freedom dancing gave her.’

The duo practised in various locations such as Sleep’s personal studio in Kensington or in the drawing room of Kensington Palace to keep the Press in the dark about her movements.

The only people who were in on the secret plan were a detective and one of Diana’s ladies-in-waiting Anne Beckwith-Smith – although neither knew what the actual dance was.

When it came time to perform, Sleep raised his hand on stage to give the signal and Diana slipped out of the royal box to change and join him.

As soon as the princess stepped out on the stage, the whole audience was in shock, and it took a moment for them to realise who it really was.

Sleep told Vulture in 2020: ‘Everyone’s mouths gaped open. There was an intake of breath like they couldn’t believe it.’

One the performance itself he said, ‘it wasn’t a serious dance by any means’ but it ‘brought the house down with humor because the audience didn’t know what was coming next’.

He said they did double pirouettes and a lift, and there was also a combination of jazz hip rolls.

It was very dynamic but ‘nothing too difficult’ with steps, lounges and transfers of weight. Sleep also said they had a few innuendos in the performance.

Although there was just the two of them, they ran the diagonals and really covered the whole stage.

Sleep later said ‘she couldn’t have danced it better’ and that he was the nervous one, not Diana, out of fear he would drop the future Queen of England.

What’s more, the dancer claims he even gave Diana a gentle push to bow to her husband – who was seated in the Royal Box.

Diana said to Sleep: ‘No, I’m not bowing to him, he’s my hubby. You won’t get your OBE with those comments!’

She enjoyed the dance so much she wanted to perform an encore, but Sleep refused – saying his motto was to ‘leave them wanting more’.

A few days after the performance, he got a letter from Diana which read: ‘Now I understand the buzz you get from performing.’

But although the audience and press seemed to love Diana’s performance, Charles strongly disapproved.

He had watched it completely oblivious to his wife’s plan and in public confessed himself as ‘absolutely amazed’ by the display.

But according to Andrew Morton’s famous book on Diana, Her True Story – In Her Own Words, in private he thought it was ‘undignified’ as she was ‘too thin and too showy’.

He wrote: ‘No matter how hard she tried or what she did, every time she struggled to express something of herself, he crushed her spirit. It wore her down.’

Diana’s private dance tutor Anne Allan wrote in her new memoir: ‘After repeated curtain calls, an elated Diana left the stage and enthused, “Beats the wedding!”

‘She made her way to Charles, and as she stood before him, I could sense she desperately wanted his approval.

‘He said, “Well done, darling”, and turned to talk to someone else.’

Meanwhile royal expert Richard Kay claimed the ‘Uptown Girl’ routine was a ‘present that backfired’ on Diana.

He said: ‘She did it as a tribute to Charles. Charles wasn’t terribly impressed.

‘He thought she was showing off. In fact, it was incredibly courageous of her to go on stage at the home of English ballet at Covent Garden and to do a routine with the great Wayne Sleep.’

According to royal biographer Tina Brown, Charles’s reaction was interpreted, as ‘frigid disapproval of Diana’s lapse in royal etiquette’.

The iconic dance was also documented in the fourth season of The Crown in 2020, where Jay Webb (playing Sleep) and Emma Corrin (playing Diana) re-created the moment.

During the scene, Charles appears sullen and deeply focused on the music. But as soon as Diana makes her surprise appearance on stage, Charles tenses.

Afterwards, he becomes cold, asking his wife ‘What were you thinking?’ and calling the surprise a ‘grotesque, mortifying display’.

Reflecting on the night of the performance itself, Wayne said it was drastically different to how it was portrayed in the TV show.

He said The Crown made it ‘so shoulder-y’ when in ‘reality it was a little more elegant’.

But despite the fallout from the performance, Anne Allan said in the controversial documentary Diana: In Her Own Words how dancing helped Diana cope with the stress of her turbulent marriage to Charles.

She said: ‘When I first met her you could see that there was a huge shyness. But over time as we went through our dance class realised just how much dance meant to her.

‘She had dance in her soul. I realised the pure enjoyment that it gave her. She loved the freeness of being able to move and dance. She loved it. I could see it helped to alleviate her emotional life. That was hard for her at that time.’

Although it has been almost 39 years since the Uptown Girl dance, the moment has lived on in the minds of the British public as an iconic Diana moment.

As Charles, now King, looks back on all the birthday presents he received in his 76 years, he will no doubt remember the dance, and be glad there are a lot fewer surprises these days.

It reads: ‘To you both, from Charles and Diana.’ There is a family portrait of the royal couple with the Princes William and Harry as youngsters.

The special artefact is all the more rare given royals have for a long time not been allowed to sign autographs due to risk of forgery.

There are only a handful of exceptions, such as visitors’ books or official documents.

The card was once auctioned by RR Auction in 2022 and is now available to purchase on eBay being sold by its current owner, who is based in the US.

She served the Queen and Prince Philip for 22 years and became a senior housemaid at Buckingham Palace.

The Queen was said to be fond of June and she travelled with her and the Duke of Edinburgh, serving at Sandringham, Windsor Castle, Balmoral and on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

She used to regale her family with the story of how she once danced the Gay Gordon Scottish country dance with Prince Philip at a party.

June retired in the mid-1990s and used to live in an apartment on the royal estate at Windsor.

Now suffering from dementia and aged 87, June’s family were selling her royal Christmas cards to help pay for her care.

There were 24 cards in total dating from 1987 to 2018, with some years missing.

Also going under the hammer in October were two personal handwritten cards from Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.

Mimi Connel Lay, of Lay’s Auctioneers of Penzance, Cornwall, said: ‘June’s collection of Christmas cards are a testament to her devotion to the Royal family.

‘Even though she retired from service in the mid-1990s, she still received a Christmas card from the Queen and Prince Philip up until the Queen’s death.

‘It is rare for a phenomenal and personal collection such as this to come onto the market. June now has dementia and is in a care home and her family have made the difficult decision to sell these treasured items to help with her care.

‘Some of the Christmas cards are great from an historic perspective, showing Harry right in the centre and bosom of his family, which is rather poignant given the current rift.’

The card for Christmas 1987 carries a photograph of the Queen and Prince Philip and their four grandchildren at the time, Peter, Zara, William and Harry.

June is originally from Guernsey and never had children.

In recent years she has lived in Cornwall, near her great niece, Michaell Dunne, who is selling the collection.

Mrs Dunne, 45, said: ‘She was very loyal to the Queen who I think cared for the people who were around her every day.

‘Auntie June was always very descreet when it came to the royal family and never gossiped.

‘She did say that her duties included preparing the Queen’s bedroom for bedtime or going in to open the curtains in the morning.

‘June’s favourite story was a New Year’s Eve party where the staff were invited to and she danced the Gay Gordons with Prince Philip, that was her claim to fame.

‘June has lived in a care home in Cornwall for the past six years and has advancing vascular dementia these days. She forgets that the Queen and Prince Philip have passed away and gets upset if reminded.

‘We’d love for June’s collection of cards to be treasured by future generations of people who love the royal family the same way that she does.’

The Diana interview that enthralled the nation and broke Prince William’s heart: On this day in 1995 Martin Bashir used deceit to get the scandal-ridden royal scoop – but it is now regarded as the BBC’s ultimate betrayal by the future king

When it comes to famous royal interviews, two stand out in particular.

The most recent of which was in 2019 when Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis grilled Prince Andrew about his friendship with the paedophile sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein – leading to his effective sacking from the Royal Family.

However, the original blockbuster interview was Princess Diana‘s sit-down with BBC Panorama’s Martin Bashir which aired on this day in November 1995.

It was watched by 20million people and became notorious when Diana spilled the secrets of her and Charles’s messy marriage, including the iconic line ‘there were three of us in the marriage, so it was a bit crowded’.

But in 2021, an investigation into the interview found Bashir had used ‘deceitful behaviour’ by falsifying documents to convince Diana to take part in the interview.

The findings prompted Prince William to make an unprecedented statement saying it should never be aired again after it had created a ‘false narrative for over a quarter of a century’.

Here, MailOnline looks back at the scandal-ridden royal interview.

In the early 1990s, the disintegration of Princess Diana and Prince Charles’s marriage was splashed across every newspaper in Britain – dubbed ‘The War of the Waleses’.

But things escalated in 1994 when Charles gave Jonathan Dimbleby an interview in which he acknowledged his relationship with Camilla.

‘Is it true,’ William had poignantly asked Diana after the revelatory broadcast, ‘that Daddy never loved you?’

That interview has been seen as one justification for Diana’s bizarre broadcast the following year when she was determined to get her side of the story out.

However, her decision to do the tell-all interview with Bashir, would only come about through deceit.

At the time it was hailed as the scoop of a generation, however Bashir had spun a web of deceit to trick Diana and her brother, Earl Spencer, with preposterous smears about senior royals to gain her trust.

He used forged bank statements and lied that MI6 had recorded Prince Charles planning the ‘end game’, and that Prince William’s watch had been bugged, all designed to draw the vulnerable princess into his confidence.

However despite allegations at the time, Bashir managed to dismiss claims he had lied to get the interview by claiming it was a smear campaign to get him.

The allegations were covered up by the BBC for 25 years, with the truth only coming out following an official investigation led by a retired judge Lord Dyson in 2021.

But the interview would leave a lasting scar on the young Prince William.

The 13-year-old boy was ill-prepared for his mother to go on national television and say ‘Yes, I adored him. Yes, I was in love with him’ about her extramarital boyfriend.

The boyfriend in question was the dashing Captain James Hewitt, William and Harry’s riding instructor.

Royal expert Tina Brown was told Diana chose to speak about Hewitt because he was the only one of her ex-lovers who wasn’t married.

It was during this interview that the princess said ‘there were three of us in the marriage, so it was a bit crowded’ – a reference to Charles’s affair with his now wife, Queen Camilla.

She spoke of her early expectations of life with Prince Charles and how she had ‘desperately wanted it to work’ in light of her own parents’ divorce.

Diana also opened up about the health issues she’d silently faced, which included bulimia, post-partum depression and self-harm, leading to her being labelled by others as unstable and mentally unbalanced.

‘It was a symptom of what was going on in my marriage,’ Diana revealed on Panorama. ‘I was crying out for help, but giving the wrong signals.’

As well as admitting to her own extramarital affairs, Diana also suggested that Charles might not be cut out for the throne.

‘I would think that the top job, as I call it, would bring enormous limitations to him, and I don’t know whether he could adapt to that,’ she said of her ex-husband.

The 54-minute bombshell interview was the final nail in the Wales’ marriage, and less than a month later, divorce papers were filed upon the Queen’s advice.

Although the interview also had an extraordinary impact on William, the implication seemingly passed over the head of the younger Harry, who was then just 11 years old.

Diana’s cascade of confessions and barbed insults added up to a maliciously crafted attack on both her husband and his family — her children’s father and family.

Robert Lacy in his book Battle Of Brothers: William, Harry And The Inside Story Of A Family In Tumult, revealed how young William was impacted by the interview.

He wrote Diana did not initially consider how it would impact the boys, and according to Simone Simmons, the Princess’s confidante and faith-healer, it took a phone call from William’s Eton housemaster, Dr Andrew Gailey, to prompt Diana.

Gailey had read the advance publicity in the newspapers and phoned to tell her it was ‘imperative’ that she should come to explain things to William, face to face.

Bashir later claimed in an email there was 'irritation' that 'a second-generation immigrant of non-white working-class roots should have the temerity to enter a royal palace'

In another phone call from Gailey the next day, Simmons told Ingrid Seward the editor-in-chief of royal magazine Majesty, he effectively ordered Diana down the M4 motorway to talk to her son.

Diana had a brief encounter with William where she told him ‘I didn’t want it to catch you by surprise’.

Afterwards, she drove on to Ludgrove, Harry’s prep school half an hour away, to deliver the same message to him.

William went down to his housemaster’s study shortly before 8pm that Monday to sit alone and watch as Panorama’s revolving globe and percussive theme music made way for the close-up of his mother’s wide eyes as she fired off her broadside of embarrassing accusations.

Before the 58 minutes ended, William was weeping, according to Robert Lacey.

Gailey told Diana that he found her son slumped on the sofa, his eyes red with tears.

The Prince managed to pull himself together to rush back to his room — but when, an hour later, Diana telephoned on the house phone, he refused to take her call.

He felt a mixture of humiliation and fury that she had denigrated his father and had mentioned Hewitt.

‘He felt she made a fool of herself — and of him.’

William was in a fragile place and was still in his first weeks at Eton, which had a notorious bullying culture where prefects could pour a bucket of raw eggs and Worcestershire sauce over the heads of younger boys who made a mistake.

William later told a classmate that as soon as he saw his mother’s face appear on screen for the interview, he was overcome with dread.

The scars on William’s back from his parents’ poisonous crossfire as a schoolboy seemed to have stayed with him.

It wasn’t until 2021 when an official investigation led by a retired judge Lord Dyson, found that ‘Bashir seriously breached BBC rules by mocking up fake bank statements to gain access to the princess,’ via the BBC.

Prince William lays into BBC over Martin Bashir Panorama interview

Understandably aghast, Diana’s brother Earl Spencer was said to believe his vulnerable sister had been trapped in a web of lies by Bashir who had established ‘coercive control’ over her.

In his inquiry, Lord Dyson found that Bashir deceived Earl Spencer into introducing the journalist to his sister by showing him forged bank statements that falsely suggested individuals were being paid to keep the Princess under surveillance.

Prince William’s full statement following the Dyson Inquiry into the Bashir interview in 2021

‘I’d like to thank Lord Dyson and his team for the report. It is welcomed that the BBC accepts Lord Dyson’s findings in full, which are extremely concerning. That BBC employees lied and used fake documents to obtain the interview with my mother, made lurid and false claims about the royal family which played on her fears and fueled paranoia, displayed woeful incompetence when investigating complaints and concerns about the programme, and were evasive in their reporting to the media and covered up what they knew from their internal investigation.

‘It is my view that the deceitful way the interview was obtained substantially influenced what my mother said. The interview is a major contribution to making my parents’ relationship worse and has since hurt countless others.

‘It brings indescribable sadness to know that the BBC’s failures contributed significantly to her fear, paranoia and isolation that I remember from those final years with her. But what saddens me most is that if the BBC had properly investigated the complaints and concerns first raised in 1995, my mother would have known that she’d been deceived.

‘She was failed not just by a rogue reporter but by leaders of the BBC, who looked the other way rather than asking the tough questions.

‘It is my firm view that this Panorama programme holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again. It effectively established a false narrative which for over a quarter of a century has been commercialised by the BBC and others.

‘This settled narrative now needs to be addressed by the BBC and anyone else who has written or intends to write about these events. In an era of fake news, public service broadcasting and a free press have never been more important. These failings, identified by investigative journalists not only let my mother down and my family down, they let the public down too.’

Royal biographer Andrew Morton also said Bashir told Diana the security forces were planning to kill her. He said Bashir warned her: ‘They’re going to wipe you.’

It was also alleged that Diana was shown a ‘faked abortion receipt’, which suggested Charles had been romantically involved with one of the royal nannies.

The report slammed BBC bosses, including former director-general Tony Hall, for covering up information on how Bashir was able to secure the interview.

In his defence, Bashir claimed criticism of the interview was down to racism over his non-white status and ‘professional jealousy’.

The inquiry plunged the Corporation into one of the worst crises in its history, with Diana’s two sons William and Harry accusing it of ruining their mother’s life with its ‘deceitful’ interview and helping to bring about the tragic chain of events that led to her death two years later.

William issued a grave address on camera where he could not quite hide the fury that still haunted him.

He railed: ‘This Panorama programme holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again. It effectively established a false narrative which, for over a quarter of a century, has been commercialised by the BBC and others.’

‘Our mother was an incredible woman who dedicated her life to service. She was resilient, brave, and unquestionably honest.

Prince Harry added. ‘The ripple effect of a culture of exploitation and unethical practices ultimately took her life.’

Since then the BBC has promised to never show the interview again or license it to be used by another broadcaster.

But it continues to cast a long shadow over the princes.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were criticised for using elements of the interview in their explosive Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, which aired in November 2022.

Midway through the first episode of the series, clips are shown of Princess Diana speaking to the journalist.

Sources close to the Prince of Wales at the time said he would have been ‘furious’ that his brother appeared to ignore his plea that the Panorama interview never be aired again.

Before the clip is shown, Harry, speaking about his mother’s struggles with press intrusion, says: ‘I think she had a lived experience of how she was struggling living that life. She felt compelled to talk about it.

‘Especially in that Panorama interview. I think we all now know that she was deceived into giving the interview. But at the same time she spoke the truth of her experience.’

And in 2022 Netflix ignored pleas from Prince William not to exploit the interview during the fifth series of The Crown in a two-episode bombshell.

Both brothers received ‘unconditional apology’ letters from the BBC over Bashir’s conduct and the 25-year cover-up.

Mr Bashir apologised for the forged documents, stating ‘it was a stupid thing to do and was an action I deeply regret’, but insisted that ‘the bank statements had no bearing whatsoever on the personal choice by Princess Diana to take part in the interview’.

Royal expert Tina Brown wrote in her 2022 book The Palace Papers that Lord Dyson’s report unmasking Bashir’s trickery gave the two princes some rationale for why their mother did something so destructive to their happiness.

Gulu Lalvani, the wealthy, British, Pakistani businessman Diana briefly dated in the last year of her life, told Tina Brown that the Princess said in July 1997 she was pleased about the interview.

He said she didn’t have a bad word to say about Martin Bashir and realised it served her purpose.

It allowed her to frame herself to the British public as a betrayed woman, before the increasingly inevitable divorce from Charles.

Opinion polls in the wake of the interview showed support for the princess at 92 per cent. ‘She had the public in the palm of her hand’, writes Brown.

Despite Diana’s pragmatic reasons for doing the interview, her sons seem to have been unable to forgive the BBC for its behaviour over the Bashir saga.

How the BBC was finally forced to admit Bashir’s deceit

AUGUST 31, 1995: BBC Panorama journalist Martin Bashir meets Earl Spencer and shows him fake bank statements that freelance designer Matt Wiessler mocked up for him.

SEP 19, 1995: The Earl introduces Bashir to Princess Diana.

NOV 5, 1995: The sensational Panorama interview with Diana is broadcast.

LATE NOVEMBER 1995: Wiessler expresses concern to Panorama’s series producer that the fake bank statements may have played a role in obtaining the interview. Bashir is asked for clarification.

DEC 22, 1995: Bashir passes a note from Diana to his bosses in which she says: ‘I was not shown any documents nor given any information by Martin Bashir that I was not already aware of.’

MAR 23, 1996: Bashir admits to BBC bosses that he had lied about not showing the fake bank statements to anybody. Yet two months later, he is sent a note – signed off by Tony Hall, then head of BBC News – that his dealings with Diana were ‘absolutely straight and fair’.

APR 7, 1996: The Mail on Sunday publishes a story about the fake statements. The BBC denies they were used to obtain the interview, but Hall opens an inquiry.

APR 25, 1996: Hall tells BBC governors that Bashir commissioned fake statements because ‘he wasn’t thinking’, adding: ‘I believe he is, even with this lapse, an honest and honourable man.’ Bashir leaves the BBC, but returns in 2016 as religious affairs editor.

AUG 28, 1996: Diana’s divorce from Prince Charles is finalised.

AUG 31, 1997: Diana dies in a car crash in Paris.

NOV 3, 2020: The Daily Mail publishes a letter written by Earl Spencer in which he accuses the BBC of ‘sheer dishonesty’.

NOV 18, 2020: The BBC asks former Supreme Court Justice Lord Dyson to independently investigate the scandal.

MAY 20, 2021: Lord Dyson’s report condemns Bashir as ‘dishonest’ and criticises Hall’s investigation as ‘flawed’. Prince William condemns the BBC’s ‘incompetence’.

JUL 21, 2022: The BBC pays about £200,000 to royal nanny Tiggy Legge-Bourke and admits she was subjected to ‘baseless’ smears by Bashir.

The only other royal interview to become as notorious as Diana's 1995 sit-down with Bashir was in 2019, when Emily Maitlis grilled Prince Andrew about his friendship with the paedophile sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein

    Happy Halloween from the Beckhams!

David Beckham, 49, began a thread of Halloween celebration posts that his wife, Victoria Beckham, 50, continued on her own Instagram account.

The former soccer star posted a different kind of shirtless pic to Instagram on Thursday, Oct. 31. In the spirit of Halloween, David donned a wrinkled face mask and a hat reading “I <3 Bingo” while exposing his tattooed torso.

In the caption, David tagged Victoria and their four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, wishing them a Happy Halloween and adding, “I DO LOVE BINGO NIGHTS.”

Romeo, 22, found his dad’s Instagram post funny and commented with a laughing emoji.

Later in the day, David posted another photo to Instagram alongside Victoria and their daughter, Harper, 13.

Victoria showcased her Halloween spirit with a scary green ogre mask that included several large moles and a gummy smile.

Unlike her parents, Harper went mask-free. She posed in between them in what appeared to be an orange prisoner jumpsuit and a makeup scratch on her face.

In the caption, Beckham seemed to find humor in their disguises and poked fun at Victoria for not dressing up for the past 27 years.

He wrote, “Good effort mum first time in 27 years my wife dresses up and it’s as good as we are gonna get you look amazing @victoriabeckham @brooklynpeltzbeckham @romeobeckham@cruzbeckham #HarperSeven are u not proud of mum “

Over on her Instagram account, Victoria also posted a full-length photo of their Halloween looks. They stood side by side, Victoria, striking a pose with the ogre-looking mask, had her hand on Beckham’s shoulder.
