Denise Welch addresses ‘heartbreak’ behind son Matty Healy’s fame after chaotic journey

Loose Women star Denise Welch has supported her eldest son Matty Healy through his rise to fame as the frontman of The 1975

Denise Welch has shared her true thoughts on her son Matty Healy, 35, finding international fame in The 1975. Quizzed about whether she found the concept of her son also being in the public eye “odd”, the Loose Women star told how she knew the moment was coming for Matty, as she always had faith in him.

Detailing his journey to fame, she explained: “It’s not odd because it’s not an overnight thing, because Matty was 35 this week, and I’ve celebrated in Los Angeles, which has been fabulous.

“But he started the band when he was 14 in our garage, so The 1975, who were Drive Like I Do [the band’s former name], who were all these different things, this is no overnight success – it’s 20 years in the making.”

On Darren Kennedy’s The Number podcast back in May, she went on address her reaction to Matty telling her that he couldn’t make it to her wedding.

She shared: “And so, there were times like when Matty said, in 2013, when I was getting married to Lincoln and I was doing a play with Keith Allen, I remember vividly we were in the hotel room and Matty rang and said, ‘Mum, how would you feel if I couldn’t come to your wedding?’

“And I said, ‘Well I’d f***ing kill you, there is no excuse’, and he said, ‘not even if we’re supporting The Rolling Stones at Hyde Park?’”

Denise then recalled how she used to tell a young Matty and his bandmates that they could get away with more wild antics when they get to the point where they’re performing with the iconic English rock band.

She continued: “I used to say when they were under my feet, and I’m feeding them all, and they’re there with their guitars and bottles of whisky at 5am, and I would go, ‘when you’re on stage with The Rolling Stones – then you can do this – and then you can do that!’ So what could I say?”

Mum-of-two Denise, who shares Matty and younger son Louis with ex-husband Tim Healy, proudly added: “I always had faith in Matty.”

However, the TV star explained it hasn’t always been easy to adjust to her son becoming a rock star, due to him spending so much time away from home.

While it had been “wonderful” to witness his success, she admitted it was also “heartbreaking” as she missed Matt and his band members being under her feet.

Denise had the space at her Cheshire home for the band to rehearse and often had a house full with not just the band, but also their girlfriends.

Despite the chaos, the Loose Women star later yearned for the times that the band were all together at her house when their first single Chocolate became a hit, not long after being played on BBC Radio 1.

She shared: “But when they were 22, and Chocolate was picked up at Radio 1, and the trajectory started, they all just left me.

“And it was, ‘please come back and drive me mad, and be under my feet’, and it’s just been very different because I share my son with a lot of people.”

At the time of the chat, Denise said it was “fantastic” to finally get some time with her son after a busy two years on tour.

  • Piers Morgan told ‘do better’ as he’s hit with backlash over Liam Payne comments

Piers Morgan told ‘do better’ as he’s hit with backlash over Liam Payne comments

Piers Morgan has been slammed on social media after he and America’s Got Talent judge Howie Mandel discussed the death of Liam Payne on his YouTube programme.

Piers Morgan has come underfire after discussing the death of Liam Payne.

The former One Direction singer tragically fell to his death aged 31 last week, falling from the balcony of his third floor hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The star died after suffering multiple traumas leading to an “internal and external haemorrhage”. In the latest instalment of his YouTube programme, Piers was joined by Howie Mandel, Liam’s friend and former X Factor co-star Katie Waissel, radio star James Barr and broadcaster Esther Krakue to discuss the devastating news.

Broadcaster Piers stated that Liam had substances “including cocaine, crack and benzodiazepine,” in his system at the time of his death. Local reports claimed these were included in “pink cocaine” which is made up of drugs such as MDMA, ketamine, methamphetamine, cocaine, benzodiazepine and crack.

In the latest instalment of Uncensored, former America’s Got Talent judge Howie said that while on shows such as Got Talent and X Factor “if we feel that somebody is going south a little bit, there is somebody to watch over them and talk to them.” He added: “This is not a talent thing. In fact, Liam if he came to a talent thing, his outcome was great. The people who are rejected have the harder time.”

He added that Liam had spoken openly about his issues with drugs and alcohol before getting clean. Piers commented: “Howie, let me bring in Katie – what I will say there about Liam, who I didn’t know very well. I know some members of the band One Direction much better – Niall is a good friend of mine and so on. Clearly Niall and Harry Styles and Louis, they’ve all built incredibly successful solo careers, I’ve covered many boybands over the years, some of them end up doing better than others when they go solo.”

Katie, who has since started legal training to become a lawyer has spoken openly about the lack of aftercare she and her co-stars received after appearing on the show in 2010. As Piers questioned what duty of care The X Factor had, Howie interrupted shouting: “Nothing, nothing, nothing.” James Barr interrupted saying: “Yet these shows would describe these people as their family.”

“Did she need help then?!” exclaimed Howie, shouting over Katie. Esther added: “When these people are becoming famous and they’re getting the money that they want. But when you have the dark side of fame, that apparently becomes everyone else’s fault.” But he has since been met with backlash on social media for appearing to blame Liam.

“Do better… You should know better than to blame the victim,” said one furious X, formerly known as Twitter user. A second went on to add: ” Piers Morgan doesn’t make any sense.” A third wrote: “Yes a dark side of fame, but no not suddenly it is everyones fault. Fans/ public have known for a while how terrible the industry is. We have spoken out many times before. Liam is just the current artist to have something tragic happen. So many have passed under suspicious causes.”

“The fact Piers and Howie were even considered ‘talent’ judges at one point in time without having an ounce of it themselves is bizarre, Leave Liam rest in peace, don’t throw stones while living in a glass house,” fumed another. A fifth added: “People have been screaming about the lack of care for minors & adults in this industry w/ little care or concern for their wellbeing. He took responsibility for his addictions but no one has taken responsibility for how the lack of care.” Katie Waissel has since hit out, saying: “It was abhorrent from start to finish.”

Since the news of Liam’s death, over 60,000 people have signed an online petition, encouraging the government to enact legislation to safeguard musicians and their mental health, which fans have insisted be called “Liam’s law.”

  • Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford slammed for showing ‘true colours’ in far-right riots debate

Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford slammed for showing ‘true colours’ in far-right riots debate

Loose Women fans hit out at Ruth Langsford for her views on the recent riots following the tragic slaying of children in Southport as she clashed with panelist Myleene Klass

Viewers of Loose Women were left outraged over Ruth Langsford’s comments on the recent riots in the UK, following the fatal stabbing of children in Southport.

Three children were stabbed to death following an unprovoked knife attack in Southport, Merseyside, by suspect Axel Rudakubana. And this sparked riots all over the UK including Manchester, Liverpool, Belfast, Middlesborough and Hartlepool. And rioters attacked police and a local mosque following misinformation on social media about the accused.

And during Loose Women’s Monday show [August 5] Ruth Langsford, Gloria Hunniford and Myleene Klass clashed over a difference of opinion. Gloria kicked off the debate stating that “nothing justifies” the level of violence that was captured on TV and social media. She also said the riots were attended by “ordinary people like ourselves in the mix who really are frustrated about their voice not being heard’.”

She added: “I don’t believe every single person in that mix was a far-right [member] or a thug. I think people are frustrated by the migrant situation’.” And it was at this point, Ruth chimed in and agreed with Gloria that the issues surrounding immigration “underlined” the violent scenes shown.

She then added: “But skim those people away, and there are people who want to protest peacefully and quietly but want to be heard. In the media it’s being skewed to far-right thugs… but people are worried about saying they’re concerned about immigration because you are labelled a racist.”

And her comments did not sit well with viewers. Taking to X, one fan wrote: “Tory Ruth showing her true colours too, her and Gloria should be ashamed of themselves.” Another person labelled Ruth and Gloria’s comments as “hideous.” Listening to the comments made on the panel, Myleene then said: “My mother’s from the Philippines. She came as a nurse. My father is from Austria, he became a Navy captain. A lot of people protesting benefit from migration. They drive cars from Germany, wear clothes from Bangladesh and Vietnam, they probably have a curry on a Friday night and have come into contact with a Pakistani doctor.”

And while Myleene tried to elaborate on her point on the financial benefits of migration, Ruth interrupted her and said: “Those might be people who’ve been here for many years. The issue now is that the country is full – it’s groaning under the weight of this.” While many hit out at Ruth and Gloria, it seemed others were able to see another perspective. One person added: “The services in this country are groaning under the weight of Tory cuts. I wish people – rich people – would stop gaslighting us.”

Myleene then identified the debate on migration was a “massive firework that everyone’s being [distracted by]”. And she also criticised the politicians for ignoring needs of people in society. And another viewer agreed with her saying: “Yes Myleene, thank you for speaking the truth. Gloria and Ruth not wanting them to say it how it is.”

  • Mike Tindall gushes as candid picture of his daughter Mia and Prince Philip emerges

Mike Tindall gushes as candid picture of his daughter Mia and Prince Philip emerges

Mike Tindall shared some royal family insights in his book called The Good, The Bad and The Rugby – Unleashed, in which Zara Phillips’s husband spoke about the late Queen

Mike Tindall has gushed over a poignant photograph of his daughter Mia with the late Prince Philip – which he says shows how “normal” his family is.

The former rugby ace, who married into the royal family after wedding Zara Phillips in 2011, opened up about his life with the Firm in a new book released on Thursday. In The Good, The Bad and The Rugby – Unleashed, the 45-year-old man attempts to set the record straight about what life being part of the Firm is like – and what he experienced spending time with the late Queen.

Although he concedes there is “a lot of drama surrounding the royal family”, Mike insists Zara’s relations are “normal”. He alludes to a photograph he’s since resurfaced on his Instagram of his daughter Mia and the late Prince Philip, her great-grandfather, in the garden of a royal property. The snap is believed to have been taken during a family holiday in Scotland in the years before Philip’s death in April 2021.

Writing in his book, Mike says: “There’s a great picture of my daughter Mia sitting with the Duke of Edinburgh that captures exactly what those afternoons were like: members of a very close family who loved each other dearly spending precious time together. Yes, there’s a lot of drama surrounding the royal family, but they aren’t much different to anyone else underneath it all.”

The poignant snap shows Philip and Mia, now aged 10, eating on a terrace of a wooden cabin property, said to be in Scotland. Two drinks are pictured on the table beside the family’s plates.

Mike, who has three children with Zara, said meals, in particular, show just how everyday the royal family is. He adds: “Lunches were also relaxed, especially up in Scotland, where lunch would often be heading out into the open space of the Scottish Highlands for a picnic.

“I’m sometimes asked if the Queen did informality like ‘normal’ people, and the answer to that is yes. Her life wasn’t like an episode of Downton Abbey, with meals on long tables and everyone dressed in their finery every night, and Zara and I would often watch the racing with her on TV, as I’m sure lots of people reading this have done with their gran.”

A whole chapter of The Good, The Bad and The Rugby – Unleashed is dedicated to royalty. The rest of the book concerns the sport Mike played professionally for around 20 years. He played 75 times for England between 2000 and 2011, during which time he met Anne, Princess Royal’s daughter Zara in Australia. They confirmed their engagement in 2010, wed the following year and since welcomed Mia, Lena, six, and three-year-old Lucas.

Liam Payne death: Law enforcement looking into one hotel worker in particular ‘over drug deal’

Liam Payne plunged to his death on 16 October from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, and investigators in the Argentine capital are investigating the circumstances surrounding his tragic death

Law enforcement officials are reportedly looking into one hotel worker in particular over drug deal in connection with Liam Payne’s death.

Multiple outlets report that police in Buenos Aires raided the CasaSur Palermo Hotel on Wednesday as part of the ongoing investigation into his tragic death at the age of 31. According to TMZ, officials have seized electronic and paper records at the exclusive hotel as they review the information gathered. Police were pictured at the hotel’s reception, and a law enforcement source told TMZ that employees have helped them to review the documents in folders and on laptops.

However, they added that there is “one employee” the police are focused on, over fears they may have sold drugs to the former One Direction singer in the run up to his devastating death. Initial autopsy results showed that the Strip That Down hitmaker had ‘pink cocaine’ in his system, as well as ecstasy, ketamine and other narcotics.

Officials raided the Casa Sur on Wednesday as part of their ongoing investigation

Footage of the hotel’s underground area has also been seized by police, in an effort to identify who supplied Liam with the drugs. Investigators are also probing the possibility that Liam could have fallen to his death from his third-floor hotel room in a state of “semi or total unconsciousness” and did not try to protect himself when he fell.

Just two days ago, the singer’s grieving father Geoff Payne was seen visiting the prosecutor’s office in Buenos Aires to assist the investigation into his son’s death. He arrived in Argentina on Friday, as he flew into the country to formally identify his son’s body, and begin the singer’s repatriation to the UK. Geoff was also seen at the memorial fans had set up outside the hotel, and was protected by onlookers from photographers as he took in the touching tributes, and even kissed a photo of his son that was left by a mourner.

The Argentine Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to Us Weekly that Geoff had spoken to the case’s prosecutor, Dr. Andres Esteban Madrea, about “his desire to investigate and to know what happened” with his son. He visited the office for six hours on Tuesday, and it was later revealed he had been speaking about his son’s life in an effort to aid the investigation into Liam’s death.

He was given a police escort while in the country, and has already spoken to officials at the British Embassy. According to the prosecutor’s office, the top priority is to preserve “the privacy of the family of the former member of the band One Direction”. The heartbroken family released an emotional statement after the learning of Liam’s death, and asked for privacy as they grieved their agonising loss. “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time,” it read.

Carol McGiffin furiously brands Loose Women ‘boring’ in nine word swipe

Carol McGiffin, who left the show last year, now lives in the South of France with her husband, and admitted she was forced to ‘step away’ from the panel show over a ‘dfficult issue’

Carol McGiffin furiously branded her former show Loose Women “boring” in a scathing nine word swipe.

The 64-year-old announced she was leaving the ITV daytime show last year in a surprise move, but later admitted she was forced to “step away” from Loose Women because of a “difficult issue”. Carol also confessed in an interview with GB News following her exit that she was suffering “too much stress” during contract negotiations, and claimed the show had become “too woke”.

In a new interview with Woman’s Own, Carol revealed there was still no love lost between her and the ITV show, and insisted the reason she left was over her contract, which “no one in their right mind would have signed”. Despite insisting earlier this year that she “didn’t miss” Loose Women, and she was sick of the “wokeness”, Carol sadly confessed she does in fact miss her old show, and was disappointed to leave.

But her heartbreak over leaving her old friends behind isn’t enough for Carol to return, and she claimed that she would never go back in a nine-word tirade. “I don’t regret leaving, I don’t fit in there anymore,” she explained. The presenter and journalist joined Loose Women back in 2001 when it first aired on ITV, but she revealed it “panders” too much to “offended” viewers, and she confessed she even watches it from time to time to “remind myself that I made the right decision”.

“It was once a great job,” she continued, but Carol said she only keeps in touch with a handful of her former co-presenters. She still meets up with Kaye Adams, Nadia Sawalha, and Jane Moore, but revealed that she upset some of the Loose Women panellists when she told them she didn’t think of them as friends. “Some I have nothing in common with,” she boldly stated, and added that they were “just people I work with”.

The journalist said the ITV show had become ‘too woke’She also keeps in touch with Ruth Langsford, but confessed she hasn’t reached out to her since news broke of her divorce from Eamonn Holmes. “She’l be inundated and won’t want to hear from me right now,” she told OK! in June.

Speaking to Best magazine earlier this year, Carol touched upon the contract issue that eventually forced her to walk away from Loose Women, and said it had been a “difficult issue” she had been dealing with since January. “The problem was, ITV were insisting, for the first time since I went back in 2018, that if I wanted to carry on doing the show, I would have to sign a contract that was totally unjust and unworkable for me, so I had to say no thanks,” she explained.

Ruth Langsford has let her hair down and enjoyed a boozy night of laughter, cocktails and Greek food as she put her recent worries behind her with some quality time with friends.

The 64-year-old Loose Women presenter shared snaps from her Friday night out on her Instagram Stories, as she documented her time with friends Rachael Eleri and Liv Davey. Ruth has had a difficult few months as her marriage to Eamonn Holmes broke down but the TV presenter looked on top form in the photos as she celebrated drinking cocktails and posed with her pals.

The trio had spent time at Greek Mediterranean restaurant Gaia, in Mayfair, London, who Ruth tagged in the pics, and they looked like they were having a lot of fun as they posed for a photo while wearing black sunglasses with Ruth making a peace sign as she wore a glamorous white shirt and black trousers.

Another photo on Ruth’s Instagram Stories shows the three of them posing for a full-length mirror selfie before a snap of cocktail glasses showed that the night out had taken a boozy turn, with Ruth admitting in a caption: “Yes… cocktails were drunk!”

The big night out comes after Ruth made a triumphant return to ITV’s Loose Women after taking an extended break following the ending of her marriage in May. While she didn’t speak about her split from Eamonn, Ruth admitted that she “won’t do it again” when it came to whether she would take another similar break.

Back in March, a joint statement from both Eamonn and Ruth was released, which read: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.” Eamonn has been suffering with health issues for some time and by her own admission, it was a testing time for them both. Ruth’s admission came before the announcement of their split surfaced.

She told Woman’s Weekly: “I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope. does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right. With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it isn’t always easy. It’s testing but we manage as a family.” Ruth added: “I look at Eamonn, who’s had his health and back problems, and it makes you realise how important your health is.”

Ruth shares son Jack, 22, with Eamonn while he has three children Declan, 35, Rebecca, 32, and Niall, 30, from a previous marriage.

Loose Women guest fumes ‘stop yawning’ at audience after telling ‘boring’ story

On Wednesday’s instalment of Loose Women, the ITV panellists spoke to presenter Mel Giedroyc about her upcoming reality show.

Former Bake Off star Mel Giedroyc was less than impressed with one member of the studio audience when appearing on Loose Women.

During Wednesday’s show, the 56-year-old was speaking about holidays as Kaye Adams questioned if she’d been away with friend and former co-star Sue Perkins.

She replied: “We did! We did our one and only skiing holiday together when we were 30, we’d been nagged by a really good friend of ours, who is a very good skier-”

However, someone in the live studio audience seemed to grab her attention as she was quick to point them out.

Mel said: “You can stop yawning in the front row now!” The panel and audience burst into laughter as Mel tried to continue on with her holiday tale.

Making it clear to the person she was joking, Mel called them lovely before adding: “It is a boring story, I’ll give you that!”

Carrying on with the holiday story, Mel revealed that she and Sue were the only two people on the trip who were in ski school as their friends were all experienced.

Mel said: “Now, I don’t want to be smug, but I was quite good.”

“She was cross, she was cross with me. I’m competitive, the two of us are competitive so it was awks. We laugh about it a lot now.”

Immediately saying it was “terrible”, Mel added: “Well no, that’s a bit dramatic”

When asked if she was on HRT, Mel confessed she was using a gel along with pills to handle her symptoms.

Loose Women’s Olivia Attwood shares three-word message after Bradley Dack’s cheating

Olivia Attwood has revealed that she was cheated on by her husband Bradley Dack before they were married and it was with his ex-girlfriend during a podcast chat

Olivia Attwood has revealed that she was left shocked and dumbfounded after discovering her husband had cheated on her.

The 33-year-old reality TV star from London became a household name on the back of her stint on Love Island in 2017. During the ITV show at that time, it was revealed that Olivia received a late-night phone call where she found out her boyfriend, now husband, Bradley Dack had cheated on her.

Olivia explained: “It’s Brad’s girlfriend” from the other end of the line. his girl was really upset and said, ‘Hello’, and I asked, ‘Who’s this?’ She replied, ‘It’s Brad’s girlfriend’. I was like, ‘Whoa, whoa. And again, please,” she told The Sun. “Then we had a chat, and basically, [he] had been seeing her as well as me.”

Brad and Olivia split before she then made the decision to join Love Island. And while her relationship status appeared to be in the dumps, it seemed it was the complete opposite -as she then got engaged. Both Olivia and Brad married in June last year. She previously said: “I feel like we had to break up and fall apart to grow up. And we both grew up a lot in those years. Obviously, at the time, I was absolutely furious but we weren’t in a serious, committed relationship.”

And while Olivia has been striving for reality TV in previous years, it seems she has now found her feet. She said: “I get on with all of them really well, and some of them in particular I’ve become really friendly with. You never know what it’s going to be like to join a new workplace, it’s like being a new kid on the block. But they have just welcomed me in and, at the start, were always checking on me during the ad breaks, they’d be asking if I was OK and if I had any questions.”

When asked who she bonded with the most, the former Love Island star said: “Linda [Robson] is hilarious. Any time I sit next to her, I’m gonna be laughing. Judi Love – hilarious. Nadia [Sawalha] and Kaye Adams – I absolutely adore them. And Denise [Welch], she just has the best stories ever. She’s lived, like, 100 lives. and I just could listen to her talk all day long.”

She added: “Ruth [Langsford] was really supportive towards me and so was Christine [McGuinness] in the early days. So, yeah, they’re all lovely. I was worried, when I joined because in my gut I was like, ‘Are the audience gonna be well receiving to me? ‘. But they really have been.”
