Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Montecito neighbours lift lid on ‘different world’

EXCLUSIVE: Neighbors tell Daily Express US that the royals are rarely spotted in their idyllic coastal town despite their massive international profile.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are virtual ghosts in their hometown as they seek to build their brand down in Hollywood.

“Day to day people don’t see them,” says Sophia, who works at a women’s boutique in Montecito’s popular Coast Village Road.

“I don’t think it’s too much of an impact here.”

Residents of the idyllic coastal town – located just outside of Santa Barbara – tell Daily Express US that the royals lead relatively reclusive lives and are seen less often than other notable residents like Oprah Winfrey.

“It’s kind of the way Montecito is anyway, everyone just does their own thing,” says the co-owner of Tresor Montecito.

The couple live in a plush nine-bedroom, 16-bathroom mansion valued at around $14.7 million.

Such swanky digs may explain why they’re rarely spotted out and about.

“It’s pretty big news when they are seen or do come out. Generally speaking, they’re fairly private individuals,” explains Zach Rosen, managing editor of the local Montecito Journal newspaper.

Even if they did, Rosen says the paper is reluctant to run anything about the couple that hasn’t been extensively reported elsewhere.

“We’re usually taking the stance that these are our community members and we do want to respect their privacy,” he says.

He adds: “We probably feel the media presence more than their presence.”

Mary Sheldon, who owns the Tecolote book shop in the town’s Upper Village, lives less than a mile up the hill from the world famous duo.

“I have seen black SUVs on my road. Other than that, it has no impact at all,” she said, noting that Winfrey has come into her store but the Sussexes have not.

The day Harry’s memoir Spare came out, Sheldon went into work to sell it even though the area was under a mandatory evacuation order due to a rainstorm.

Separately, the pro soccer player shared a video to his Instagram of son Cruz, 18, hanging off the side of the boat and waterskiing with bare feet. In the video, Cruz loses his grip as water sprays in his face, causing him to go flying.

“This has to hurt ????,” Beckham wrote in the caption. “I’m not sure he heard arms straight ???? @cruzbeckham.”

Prince Harry appeared “downcast in LA” after putting on a brave face for UK visit, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were spotted at the airport in Los Angeles on Monday, touching down after a 18-hour flight back from Nigeria.

Meghan was pictured walking ahead of her husband as they left the airport. Harry, on the other hand, was walking behind looking upset – something that royal expert Tom Quinn suggested could be linked to his recent UK visit.

Harry is said to have hoped that he could have met with his father whilst in the UK, but the monarch posed a busy schedule during his short visit.

Speaking to the Mirror, Mr Quinn said: “Harry tried desperately to put a brave face on it during his recent visit to the UK, but his real feelings were apparent when he landed back in Los Angeles. It was impossible not to see how downcast and upset he looked.

“And it’s no surprise because he had hoped to see his father, and for a good deal longer than their 30-minute meeting last time he was in the UK.”

The 39-year-old had previously returned to the UK back in February, where he met with King Charles at Clarence House just days after his cancer diagnosis was revealed.

At the time of Harry’s visit to the UK last week, a spokesperson for the former working royal said that the King was too busy to meet with his youngest son.

Conflicting reports have suggested that the monarch did offer to meet his son, and even offered him a place to stay during his visit – but this was turned down by Harry.

Upon arriving back in the US on Monday, Harry and Meghan were likely excited to reunite with their two children. Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, two, are said to have stayed with their grandmother – Meghan’s mum – Doria Ragland.

Victoria Beckham’s parents have undoubtedly influenced her life and success.

The British designer and Spice Girls alum famously insisted that she came from a “working class” family in the 2023 Netflix documentary series Beckham, though in the now-viral clip she conceded that her father did indeed drive her to school in a Rolls Royce.

Born in Essex, England, in 1974, Victoria is the eldest daughter of Jackie and Anthony Adams. While her parents came from modest beginnings, they found success in creating their own electronics supply company.

“My dad worked really hard to have the money for us to have a nice house,” Victoria told Vogue in 2017. “My family brought me up telling me I could achieve absolutely anything. Whenever I said I can’t do it, my dad, he just wouldn’t hear it.”

Following in her family’s entrepreneurial footsteps, Victoria has launched multiple successful businesses, including her eponymous fashion line and her cosmetics line Victoria Beckham Beauty. She married soccer star David Beckham in 1999 and the couple share sons Brooklyn, Cruz, Romeo and daughter Harper.

Here’s everything to know about Victoria Beckham’s parents, Jackie and Anthony Adams.

They were married in 1970 and have three children

Victoria Beckham with her parents Jackie and Anthony Adams, and sister Louise Adams.

Jackie and Anthony were married in 1970 and welcomed their first child, Victoria, in 1974. They went on to have two more children, daughter Louise and son Christian and raised their family in Goffs Oak, Hertfordshire in the U.K.

In 2022, Victoria shared a tribute to her parent on their 52nd wedding anniversary via Instagram. “Happy anniversary!! 52 years!!” she captioned a pair of photos of the couple. “We love you both so much!!! Your marriage is an inspiration to us every day.”

    They founded a business together

Jackie worked as an insurance clerk and hairdresser while Anthony was an electronics engineer. Later, they founded an electrical supply business together.

During the 1980s tech boom, the company found massive success and helped the family build their fortune.

They built up their family home

Now an affluent neighborhood, Victoria’s hometown of Goffs Oak was much more rural when she was a child. Jackie and Anthony purchased the family home over 40 years ago and have built additions over the years.

“They bought it as a shell and did it all themselves,” Victoria told Vogue during a tour of her parent’s house in 2017. “I remember my mum cooking on a camping stove because we didn’t have a proper kitchen.”

“Never would I have thought all those years ago that Vogue would be shooting me at my parents’ house,” she added.

Anthony drove a Rolls Royce in the ‘80s

    Victoria Beckham and Anthony Adams.

In a now-viral moment from their Netflix docuseries, Beckham, Victoria tells cameras that she and David come from “very working class families.”

David then pokes his head into the room and playfully interrupts the interview by asking, “Be honest. What car did your dad drive you to school in?” After some back and forth, Victoria admits that her dad drove a Rolls Royce in the 1980s.

In response to the internet’s frenzy over the clip, Victoria created a  t-shirt with the slogan “My Dad had a Rolls Royce,” released by her fashion label.

“I can’t fight it anymore, yes my dad drove me to school in a Rolls Royce! 😂 Kisses  @David Beckham,” the designer captioned a TikTok video promoting the item.

Jackie was strict about Victoria’s clothing as a teenager

Victoria told Vogue that as a teenager, Jackie refused to let her dress like her fashion idol, Sandy from the movie-musical Grease.

“Did I have a perm that was slightly distasteful? Yes. Did I wear strange jeans? Yes. Did I look inappropriate ever? Not until the Spice Girls,” she told the outlet in 2017. “My mum would never let me go out dressed like that.”

Jackie was less strict about makeup, though. Victoria also recalled her mother dabbing lipstick on her cheeks as a cream blush because she thought her daughter looked too pale.

They taught Victoria about business and finances

Jackie and Anthony’s business savvy inevitably tricked down to Victoria. The designer said that she and her siblings were involved in the business and often helped their parents pack orders in the living room.

“We were always part of what they were doing,” Victoria told Vogue in 2017.

They also taught Victoria to be financially responsible. The fashion designer explained to Vogue that she had a part-time job at a hardware store, they instructed her to put half of her wages into a separate bank account “for tax.”

“They don’t teach you that at school,” Victoria added.

Victoria has credited her parents with encouraging her to achieve her goals.

“My family brought me up telling me I could achieve absolutely anything,” she told Vogue in 2017. “Whenever I said I can’t do it, my dad, he just wouldn’t hear it. He’d say, what do you mean you can’t do it? Why? Why? And I do that to my own children as well.”

Jackie and Anthony also remain proud of their daughter’s music career. At their home in Goffs Oak, they have a shed where they store 3,000 scrapbooks filled with Spice Girls cuttings and memorabilia.

Victoria often enjoys family outings with her parents. In December 2023, she posted a series of Instagram photos from a night out with David and their children well as Jackie and Anthony.

“Special night with my family. I love you all so much x,” she captioned the photos, which appeared to be taken at restaurant.

“My mum and dad are happiest when we’re all here,” she told the outlet.

In addition to Romeo, David and Victoria are parents to daughter Harper, 11, and sons Cruz, 17, and Brooklyn, 23.

In an interview with Vogue Australia earlier this summer, Victoria talked about some of her fears as her kids — particularly daughter Harper — get older. She worried about how body shaming has erupted on social media and her worries of how that might impact Harper one day.

“Harper isn’t on social media, so we don’t have to worry about that just yet. But seeing how cruel people can be, yes it really does [concern me],” she said at the time.

Victoria said that Harper is “at that age where her body is going to start changing, but it’s about making sure that we communicate a lot as a family and she surrounds herself with nice friends. But it is quite terrifying, I can’t lie.”

Victoria Beckham is celebrating U.S. Mother’s Day from across the pond!

The fashion designer, 50, shared a wholesome family snap featuring all of her and David Beckham’s children — Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 12 — posing with her in honor of the special day in the States.

“Happy US Mother’s Day to all the mother figures out there,” Victoria wrote in the caption of the image, adding, “I love you all so much @davidbeckham @brooklynpeltzbeckham @romeobeckham @cruzbeckham #HarperSeven xxx.”

In the photo, Victoria smiled as she posed with her four kids while they sat in front of a table decorated with flowers. David, 49, didn’t appear in the snap, but it comes two months after the Spice Girls alum was recognized by her family on Mother’s Day in England, too. At the time, David called her one of the “most amazing Mummy’s” in his life.

The new snap from Victoria, however, appears to have been captured amid her 50th birthday festivities earlier this year, as her son Cruz could be seen holding up five fingers on one hand and signaling a zero with the other.

While the kids have yet to salute their mom on the U.S. holiday — outside of Romeo, who shared the snap to his Instagram Stories — they have previously celebrated her for U.K. Mother’s Day on social media and all stepped out for her milestone 50th in late April.

The former Spice Girls member celebrated turning 50 with a star-studded bash at Oswald’s, a members-only club in London on Saturday, April 20.

Apart from her family, some of the attendees included Marc Anthony and his wife, Nadia Ferreira, Eva Longoria and her husband José “Pepe” Bastón, Jason Statham and his fiancée, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Tom Cruise.

The party also included an impromptu performance from Victoria and her former bandmates Geri Halliwell-Turner, Emma Bunton, Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm, and Melanie “Mel B” Brown.

Victoria later thanked David, who planned the party, in a sweet Instagram Stories tribute.

“I still can’t believe how special you made me feel on this evening, on my birthday, this entire week, and all of our magical years together! Thank you. I love you so much! … I am being honest,” Victoria wrote next to a photo of the two.

A day before officially turning 50, the mom of four reflected on feeling “incredibly blessed to have reached this milestone.”

“Blessed, but also accomplished and deeply content. Not just of where I am as a woman, but of how far my fashion and beauty brands have come. My ambition was always to empower women and make them feel like the best version of themselves. To me, that meant trusting my instinct and never compromising on my creative vision,” wrote Victoria in a Tuesday, April 16 Instagram post.
