ITV Loose Women stars react to ‘huge loss’ after death of Hairy Bikers’ Dave Myers

Loose Women’s Charlene White remembered Dave Myers after the news of the Hairy Bikers star’s death, as she said he was ‘a huge loss’ to the TV family

Loose Women star Charlene White remembered friend of the show Dave Myers on Thursday after the sad news of his death.

The ITV host announced his death on the show leading to gasps of sadness from the live audience, with Charlene calling his passing “a huge loss”. The Hairy Bikers star, whose death was announced at the age of 66 by best pal and co-star Si King on Thursday morning, died on the night prior surrounded by his family.

Si released a statement on behalf of his loved ones as he said an emotional farewell to his co-star and close friend. Discussing the sad news on Thursday, Charlene revealed both Dave and Si were fans and friends of the show, as she paid tribute to the late TV star.

She told the audience and viewers at home: “We just wanted to share the news with you that Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers has died aged 66.” As the audience gasped and sighed loudly, she went on: “I know, I know.

“It’s just two years after revealing that he had been diagnosed with cancer, Dave and his co-star Si were big fans and big friends of the show. We send all of our love to both Si and of course Dave’s family. It’s a huge loss to our telly family.”

Si confirmed the passing of his beloved pal on Thursday morning, just days after the pair had promoted their latest ventures together and amid a TV return for the duo.

Just last week, an episode of his new series The Hairy Bikers Go West aired where he made an emotional comment. Si had said: “It’s great getting back here with my best mate. We didn’t think 18 months ago that we’d be on the bikes again wandering around Dave’s backyard and it’s wonderful that we are.”

Meanwhile, a smiling Dave added: “It’s been glorious. The motorcycling’s been glorious. What can I say. It feels so good to be alive!” The statement confirming his death on Thursday on social media read: “Hi everyone, I’m afraid I bear some sad news.

“Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years. Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home. All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.

“Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.

“I know Dave and his family would want me to thank all of you who sent messages of support in recent times. It meant the world to him, his family and all The Hairy Bikers team.

“I am sending you all much love and gratitude for those simple acts of kindness, generosity and spirit. We are eternally grateful for them. May I ask you all for one further kindness and allow Lili, his wife, his family, close friends and I some time and some peace to process our huge loss. I am sure I will see you all soon. Love Si x”

  • ITV Loose Women’s Denise Welch demands royal family reveal what’s wrong with Princess of Wales

ITV Loose Women’s Denise Welch demands royal family reveal what’s wrong with Princess of Wales

As conspiracy theories about the Royal Family continue to swirl online, Denise Welch discussed the topic on Monday’s Loose Women

Denise Welch has hit out at “half statements” as conspiracy theories about the royal family continue to swirl online.

The Princess of Wales, 42, has not been seen publicly since undergoing “planned major abdominal surgery” earlier this year, which took place at the London Clinic on January 16. It comes as King Charles has taken a step back from duties following his cancer diagnosis. Furthermore, Prince William sparked concern last week when he pulled out of the memorial service for King Constantine, where he had been due to give a reading.

In a new statement last week, a royal spokesperson said: “Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the Princess’s recovery and we’d only be providing significant updates. That guidance stands.” The spokesperson reiterated the princess is “doing well.” They have still said nothing more about what specific medical procedure she has had and due to her retreat from the public eye, it has led to lots of unwarranted online speculation and conspiracy theories.

Talking on Monday’s Loose Women, Denise, 65, said: “The whole royal family thing, listen, I’m very torn about it all. As anybody who watches this show regularly knows, I’m very much team Meghan and Harry.” The panellist added: “The whole Kate Middleton thing, I have nothing against her, I don’t know her, I hope she’s alright.

“Just tell us what’s the matter, just do a photo whether it’s from your bed or whatever it is, you are creating a media frenzy. Now the conspiracy theories are starting, which of course they’re going to do. So just say what is the matter with her. I don’t understand them telling us about Charles’ cancer but not telling us where the cancer is and how he is, don’t make half a statement!”

To which co-star Ruth Langsford responded in defence: “Some people would say they should be afforded some modicum of privacy when it comes to your health. It might be something that she doesn’t want discussed. It might be private but they’ve just said: ‘Look, she’s had an operation, she’s fine, she’ll be away from her Royal duties.’”

In a statement released the day after Kate’s operation Kensington Palace said: “The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for 10 to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.

“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private. Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”

While Buckingham Palace said in a statement last month: “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”

  • Your favourite ever Celebrity Big Brother winner revealed – and it may not be who you think

Your favourite ever Celebrity Big Brother winner revealed – and it may not be who you think

Celebrity Big Brother has played host to a galaxy of stars over the years, but who was your favourite ever winner? Let’s find out

Celebrity Big Brother is back on our screens, bringing with it a wave of nostalgia for all the past winners that have graced our screens over the last two decades.

While we lap up the latest series – starring Princess of Wales’s uncle Gary Goldsmith, TV star Sharon Osbourne, music mogul Louis Walsh, and Strictly star Nikita Kuzmim among others – we thought it was a good time to ask you who your favourite ever winner was.

And your most-loved by quite some margin is Rylan Clark, with 261 votes. The one-time X-Factor contestant – and now ubiquitous TV presenter – was the last man standing when the 2013 series ended.

    Rylan Clark pictured in 2013

    CHANNEL 5)
This is a very fondly remembered era, and you may recall jockey Frankie Dettori and Rylan having to decide every housemate’s fate as to who would move in the Main House or the Basement. Joining them were Razor Ruddock, Gillian Taylforth, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt and Paula Hamilton.

    Halle Berry suffers wardrobe issue

Your next favourite was top comic Jack Dee with 106 votes. The inaugural series back in 2001 saw the laconic, stony-faced legend triumph against other housemates that included Anthea Turner, Chris Eubank, Claire Sweeney, Keith Duffy and Vanessa Feltz. The show is probably best remembered for Vanessa having an on-air meltdown when she began methodically writing on the kitchen table using chalk.

Closely following Jack with 108 votes is Ryan Thomas. The former Coronation Street actor became the latest winner after beating US star Kirstie Alley in the final. Ryan was involved in a punch-gate scandal with former Emmerdale star Roxanne Pallett. After she controversially accused Ryan of deliberately hitting her, she walked out of the house in a back door-style eviction and Ryan was crowned the winner.

Comic Julian Clary, who won the second series in 2012, was your next favourite with 78 votes. It had initially been announced that Facebook voting would be in effect for this series but due to technical issues, Channel 5 cancelled such plans. The comedian was joined by Julie Goodyear, MC Harvey and Coleen Nolan, Martin Kemp and Samantha Brick.

If you can’t see the poll, click here

Following Julian on 73 votes is Happy Mondays legend Bez. The 2005 series was won by Salford’s very own maraca shaking, freaky dancin’ Happy Monday, Mark ‘Bez’ Berry. He was accompanied by a diverse crowd including Germaine Greer, Caprice, Brigitte Nielsen, Jackie Stallone and Kenzie and it was the first series in which celebrities got paid to appear. John McCririck’s diary room tantrum over his beloved Diet Coke certainly stuck in the mind from the third series.

Controversial comic Jim Davidson got 69 of your votes. The old-school stand-up scooped the title in the first series of CBB to air in 2014. The show lasted 27 days. Other housemates were Lionel Blair, Luisa Zissman, Dappy and Evander Holyfield, Jasmine Waltz, Lee Ryan, Linda Nolan and Liz Jones.

Next is Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding with 66 votes. Betting odds were up and down for Sarah in the 2017 series – one episode she was favourite and the next she was getting booed – but she came out on top in the end.

Next up is Shilpa Shetty Jundra with 49 votes. The most controversial Big Brother incarnation of all-time saw a record number of complaints to regulator Ofcom. Issues centred on concerns that Bollywood star Shilpa was the subject of racist bullying and protests were even held in India. Among the other contestants involved were Danielle Lloyd, Jo O’Meara, Jade Goody, Jack Tweed and Leo Sayer.

Shane Jenek/Courtney Act got 44 of your votes. The RuPaul’s Drag Race finalist won the 2018 series after beating Ann Widdecombe with 49 per cent of the public vote. The chasing pack saw Paddy Doherty and Mark Owen tied with 38 votes each, followed by Katie Price on 33. Other votes were cast for Scotty T, Gary Busey, Coleen Nolan, Charlotte Crosby, Stephen Bear, Denise Welch, Ulrika Jonsson, Alex Reid, James Hill and Chantelle Houghton.

There’s still time to vote! Let us know your favourite Celebrity Big Brother winner by using the poll above.

ITV Loose Women star points out one detail in Kate Middleton photo that makes ‘mockery of public’

Denise Welch appeared on Loose Women today where they discussed the manipulated photo of Kate Middleton and her three children – George, Charlotte and Louis

Loose Women star Denise Welch fumed as she slammed the editing of a photo of the Princess of Wales.

After much speculation, today the Princess of Wales put out a tweet on social media where she said she had edited a photo of her and her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. She wrote on social media: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”

The topic was still a big discussion today on Loose Women, where the panellists including Denise Welch and Ruth Langsford discussed the edited photograph amid the furore of public discussion and conspiracy theories.

Speaking on the show today, she said: “Apparently, there are huge rules that the big picture agencies around the world follow that they say they will not use photos that have been doctored or Photoshopped. I talked about Kate Middleton last week and received a barrage of negative messages online about it. I, like everyone else, have nothing against Kate Middleton, I wish her the best of luck in everything she does. I am also supportive of the Sussexes but apparently you have to be one or the other.

“My point was why are they allowing this controversy and conjecture to continue. Also, it was the way we were blindly led to believe that it had been posted post-surgery. It could have been anytime. Do I believe Catherine Middleton, who has said nothing about her illness has suddenly come up to justify Photoshopping a photo, no I don’t.”

She continued: “Do I think that the PR team at Kensington Palace should be fired? Yes I do. I think they’re absolutely making a mockery. I would just like to say quickly – whether Kate did it or the PR did it, the photo has been doctored. Why when there is all this speculation behind the scenes would they put a picture of her without her wedding ring. Why? If you’re gonna Photoshop it, Photoshop your ring on Catherine, because that’s just caused another [furore].”

Lorraine Kelly branded the edit “stupid”. She said earlier today: “What an own goal, this has backfired spectacularly. It was supposed to put to rest all the conspiracy theories and now everyone is talking about the images having been doctored in some way.

“It’s clumsy, you can give them the benefit of the doubt, but it does show you what scrutiny they’re always under. What a stupid thing to do – if they have done that, it’s dumb I think is the word.”

  • Katie Price begs for ITV Loose Women spot despite slamming former co-stars

Katie Price begs for ITV Loose Women spot despite slamming former co-stars

Former glamour model Katie Price has begged to return to Loose Women despite slamming her former co-stars after appearing on the ITV panel from 2015 to 2018

Katie Price has declared she wants to return to Loose Women despite slamming her exit from the show.

The former glamour model, 45, admitted she wants to go back to the ITV daytime show as a presenter. She was a regular panelist on the programme from 2015 to 2018. Katie has since re-shared a social media post of an episode from March 18, 2018 where she appeared on the panel alongside Vicky Pattison, Linda Robson and Andrea McLean.

The admission comes just days after she was declared bankrupt for a second time after dodging court six times over her £3.2million debt.

Alongside the throwback snap, Katie wrote: “I should go back as a presenter.” Last month, Loose Women’s Linda Robson revealed Katie is desperate to be allowed back on the show. Writing in her new book Truth Be Told, Linda said: “I love Katie Price but sometimes I think she deliberately tries to shock. I did an awards show with her once where we were both supposed to be presenting together but no one could find her anywhere.

“She eventually turned up with minutes to spare. When we got out on the stage, she started talking about herself and I had to tell her, ‘Oi! It ain’t about you today. Whenever I bump into her now, she tells me how she wants to come back to Loose Women. And I say, ‘But, Katie, you can’t f*** ing behave yourself, can you?’”

Andrea McLean, Nadia Sawalha, Katie Price

Linda confessed she worries about Katie, and that the mum-of-five “used to sleep in the car on her way in and would arrive in her pyjamas and get dressed when she got there”. She added: “She always made plenty of headlines whenever she was on, though.” After leaving the show back in 2018, Katie revealed that she felt let down by the ITV team. It came at the time of her ex-husband Kieran Hayler’s affair and her mum’s terminal illness diagnosis.

Katie told the Changes With Annie Macmanus podcast in 2021: “I was doing Loose Women for two years. When I look back at that it makes me feel sick. You had me at my worst. You had me when mentally I was really going through it, which is weird because some people wouldn’t have you on the show like ‘no you are not well enough’. In fact, I wasn’t well. I wasn’t well but I was still able to perform like a seal.”

Just last year Katie slammed her former co-stars when she was asked by sister Sophie if she would ever consider returning. Speaking on The Katie Price show podcast, she said: “I’m gonna throw it back, the question is would they ever have me back on?” Her son Junior made a Loose Women appearance last summer to discuss his upbringing with famous parents, Katie and Peter Andre.

Katie added: “Although they did p**s me off when Junior was on it, not even asking a question, ‘how is your mum’ and all of that – very disrespectful. But, would I be a presenter on it? To be honest, I’ve been there and done that so probably not, no I don’t want to be a presenter on Loose Women again, so I would turn that down.” While speaking on TikTok, Katie claimed that the panellists “hated” her.

  • ITV Emmerdale Paddy Kirk star’s life off screen – famous wife and quirky side gig

ITV Emmerdale Paddy Kirk star’s life off screen – famous wife and quirky side gig

Actor Dominic Brunt has played vet Paddy Kirk in ITV ‘s Emmerdale for nearly 30 years but away from the Yorkshire Dales his life couldn’t be more different

There’s a lot about Paddy Kirk actor Dominic Brunt that you don’t know.

What do Mandy Dingle, Emily Dingle, Rhona Goskirk and Chas Dingle all have in common? They’ve all been married to Emmerdale vet Paddy who has been a familiar face on the soap since 1997.

But away from the cameras actor Dominic Brunt is happily married to his wife, fellow soap star, Joanne Mitchell and the couple have two sons. We take a look at his off screen family life, heartbreak and unusual side gig.

Dominic met his fellow screen star wife when they were both studying at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and just like her husband, Joanne Mitchell is a film, stage and TV actor. The two have been married since 2003 and share two children together. If Dominic Brunt’s wife looks familiar that’s because she also works on Emmerdale playing Liv Dingle’s mum Sandra Flaherty.

Joanne and Dominic have two sons – Mickey-Joe and Danny Lee – and while their exact ages aren’t known, it’s thought the pair are both teenagers. On This Morning Dominic revealed how the couple battled their own personal heartache when Danny had to undergo heart surgery when he was just eight months old.

    Dominic Brunt and Joanne Mitchell
The couple’s son went through a terrifying health scare
“He had to go through major heart surgery at eight months, but he’s fine now,” Dominic said. “It’s the most horrific thing to have to go through as a parent but he’s football mad now – he’s completely fine – he has to check up once a year for the rest of his life. The people at Leeds Infirmary carry you through as parents because you don’t know what you’re doing and you’re given this information and you have to go through it. At the time it was horrific. You’re in the eye of the storm, it was horrible. You think you are going to lose your son.”

Dominic may have played Paddy Kirk since 1997, but in recent years has also turned his hand to working behind the camera. A huge fan of horror, Dominic runs an annual zombie film festival in Leeds alongside his Emmerdale co-star Mark Charnock. And Dominic and his wife have undertaken lots of projects together, including co-founding Mitchell Brunt Films, with Joanne working as producer and writer on several of the company’s films.

However, he told Loose Women viewers his loyalties lie with Emmerdale. He added: “It takes about two to four years to get the funding together and sometimes films collapse and sometimes they get up and go forward but it can be a very tricky situation, but I don’t want to ever do one of them by halves, so I only do them every few years. I’m happy with Emmerdale and I really love it. I’m a really big fan of the show and I’m very lucky. I’ve probably dodged a couple of bullets and I never ever take it for granted.”

Emmerdale is on ITV tonight at 7:30pm

“I’m still getting to know me as I was diagnosed only a few years ago”, Christine stated, underlining the huge impact of a late diagnosis on an individual’s day-to-day, before adding: “I want to spend time with my children. I just want to be with me, I’ve always been a loner, I quite like being in my own company.”

Fans of the TV personality will know that she shares three children with presenter Paddy – 10-year-old twins Penelope and Leo, a daughter named Felicity, aged 7, have also all been diagnosed with autism.

Christine and Paddy first met at the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament in 2007, when the former was only 19 years old, embarking on a romantic relationship two years later and walking down the aisle in June, 2011. The pair decided they to go their separate after eleven years of marriage in July, 2022, with the Top Gear host staying silent about the split for several months before finally speaking up.

At the time, in April 2023, Paddy got candid about feeling “homesick” while he was away from Christine and their family, explaining his aversion from the solitude to The Sun. “I’ve always had a sort of rule what I stick by where I never do more than nine days anywhere because I just like being at home”, he told the tabloid, “I think naturally you get homesick.”

Paddy had then added he got into the habit of keeping his phone close by to stay in constant contact with their three children and the former couple even made the decision to keep living under the same roof for their sakes. A handful of months later, Instagram users were excited as Paddy sparked new romance rumours with a snap showing off two full mugs of tea paired with the caption: “Hers and His.”

During a chat with Vicky Pattison on podcast The Secret To Understanding Yourself, Christine revealed Paddy started dating again, saying: “We talk an awful lot and we’re very open. He has said to me when he’s been going on a date.”

“We still live in the same house. But I think both of us right now we’re very much in the same place, where we just don’t really know what to do or where to go”, she’d added.

  • Denise Welch takes a new swipe at ITV Celebrity Big Brother’s Fern Britton as feud uncovered

Denise Welch takes a new swipe at ITV Celebrity Big Brother’s Fern Britton as feud uncovered

Former co-stars Denise Welch and Fern Britton seemingly didn’t strike up a friendship away from work, as the Loose Women panelist continues to take swipes at the Celebrity Big Brother star

Denise Welch seemingly won’t be voting for Fern Britton to win Celebrity Big Brother on Friday night, as the Loose Women star continues to throw some subtle shade Fern’s way on social media.

Rumours of a feud between the two women began earlier this week, thanks to Denise appearing to take aim at Fern on Twitter (X). As Fern received a bit of backlash from Celebrity Big Brother fans, former Coronation Street star Denise tweeted: “The mask is slip sliding away #CBBUK.”

Fans were quick to suspect Fern was the housemate Denise was referring to with her tweet, with one replying to the star and declaring: “There’s something about her that’s very insincere to me. I don’t know her though but there’s just something, can’t put my finger on it.”

Denise, who won the Channel 5 version of Celebrity Big Brother back in 2012, has also been liking negative tweets about Fern, including one which reads: “Please get Fern out can’t stand the fake crying anymore.” Another critical tweet liked by Denise reads: “Fern again being passive aggressive, she does it in a low tone, but it’s so obvious.”

Taking to social media once again last night, Denise appeared to be disappointed Fern wasn’t the one to get the boot by Celebrity Big Brother viewers, as TV presenter Zeze Millz and Broadway Marisha Wallace were evicted from the famous house just days before the big final

“Gutted!!! #CBBUK,” Denise wrote to her 556,300 Twitter followers as Fern survived another public vote. “Who is saving Fern? She’s so sly and passive aggressive, I’m truly baffled,” one Twitter user replied, with Denise going on to like a tweet reading: “Louis calling Fern a ‘fucking cow’ and saying he didn’t care is A MOOD. #CBBUK.”

Fern Britton and Denise Welch worked together in 2018 as they both appeared in the Calendar Girls musical
It’s not known why Denise doesn’t particularly like Fern. The pair shared a stage together back in 2018, when they both appeared in a touring production of Calendar Girls the Musical. Inspired by the 2003 hit film, the musical saw Denise play Celia, while Fern took on the role of Marie.

Last night’s episode of Celebrity Big Brother saw Fern and Strictly Come Dancing star Nikita Kuzmin clash heads thanks to a stripy top and a misplaced comment. As the housemates sat around the sofas, Fern asked Nikita how old he is. When he replied “26”, she told him: “When you’re 66, you’ll have exactly the same brain which is why you have to understand that I’ve still got a 26 year old brain.”

Nikita was left puzzled by this and told Fern: “I’m a bit confused about this.” Fern tried to clear things up, telling Nikita: “You shouldn’t be confused. You never change your brain. Everything is hilarious – all bum jokes, all c**k jokes. Everything is still as it is when you’re 66.” But Nikita was still lost, asking Fern: “Are we having a beef? What’s happening?”

Fern explained: “I’m just saying never look at an old person and think they’re old,” she told him. “We’re still in our heads 26.” Nikita was still unsure, asking: “Referring to?” Fern clarified: “When you said to me the other day, you were very sweet. ‘I like your stripy top, stripes are in fashion Fern.’ Bless you, you were passing me a compliment but also saying ‘actually they’re in fashion’ as if it was a surprise to me. It wasn’t a surprise.”

Denise liked a number of tweets from Celebrity Big Brother viewers taking Nikita’s side last night. One tweet liked by Denise reads: “sorry but fern literally tried to make nikita look bad in front of the house and then told him when they were alone that she wasn’t bothered by what he said?? he was just being nice?? unfair actually #cbbuk.”

Mirror Online has reached out to Denise’s reps for comment.

Denise Welch blasts ‘passive aggressive’ Fern Britton and shares ‘real reason’ for Nikita row

Loose Women star Denise Welch defended Nikita Kuzmin over his Celebrity Big Brother row with Fern Britton as she called out the ‘passive aggressiveness’ of one star

Loose Women star Denise Welch has hit out at Fern Britton over her comments to Nikita Kuzmin on Celebrity Big Brother.

Denise said she “felt sorry for” Nikita after he was left confused by a run-in with Fern in a recent episode. Fern appeared to call out a comment Nikita had made to her earlier in the week, which she took offence to, suggesting he was being ageist.

She appeared to think Nikita was seeing her as old and like she needed things to be explained to her. He was baffled as to where her remarks had come from, before explaining she had taken it the wrong way in awkward scenes.

Fern said to him: “You and I get on alright when we’re playing games. Can I tell you? How old are you now?” Nikita answered “26” with Fern replying: “When you’re 66, you’ll have exactly the same brain which is why you have to understand that I’ve still got a 26 year old brain.”

Baffled, Nikita then asked Fern: “I’m a bit confused about this?” Fern then explained to the professional dancer: “You shouldn’t be confused. You never change your brain. Everything is hilarious – all bum jokes, all c**k jokes. Everything is still as it is when you’re 66.”

Celebrity Big Brother fans are convinced they've rumbled the "real reason" behind Fern Britton and Nikita Kuzmin's "feud"

Not understanding where the conversation was going, a perplexed Nikita then asked Fern: “Are we having a beef? What’s happening?” “I’m just saying never look at an old person and think they’re old,” Fern insisted to her fellow housemate.

“We’re still in our heads 26.” Still confused, Nikita asked: “Referring to?” to which Fern told him: “When you said to me the other day, you were very sweet. ‘I like your stripy top, stripes are in fashion Fern.’ Bless you, you were passing me a compliment but also saying ‘actually they’re in fashion’ as if it was a surprise to me. It wasn’t a surprise.”

Discussing the moment amid rumours of a feud between her and TV presenter Fern, Denise defended Nikita as she called out Fern for being “passive aggressive” and faking a smile as she did so. Denise suggested Nikita did nothing wrong and had not meant his comments the way they were perceived.

She said on Loose Women: “I know it’s a heated environment and emotions are heightened, and you feel very vulnerable. Sometimes there are reactions when you’re in there that people watching think are over the top, but actually you’re away from everything and everybody that you love.

“However if there’s one type of behaviour that I cannot stand it’s passive aggressive behaviour. The definition is indirectly expressing negative feelings instead of addressing them.

“I cant bear anything that’s done behind a sickly painted smile. I felt very sorry for Nikita because I genuinely think it wasn’t ageist. I think it was because he nominated her four times and she didn’t like it, and I felt sorry for him. I don’t think he’s got a mean bone in his body in there and knowing him a little on the outside.”
