Carol McGiffin says Barbie movie is hugely offensive and slams Margot Robbie casting

Carol McGiffin has not held back when sharing her thoughts on the new Barbie movie as she slammed Margot Robbie’s casting and reveals who she thinks would have been perfect for the plastic role

Former Loose Women star Carol McGiffin has lashed out at Greta Gerwig’s new Barbie movie as stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling continue their mammoth press tour.

Broadcaster Carol, who is known for her brutal shutdowns, says everything she knows about the soon to be release flick has ‘offended her more than anything’.

The ex ITV star also slammed the casting of Margot Robbie as America’s favourite doll and said UK star Katie Price would have been a much better fit in the lead role.

Early Barbie reviews have been hugely positive, with some critics insisting Gosling could earn an Oscar nomination for his portrayal as Ken.

But Carol, 63, doesn’t share the same views as she hit out in style in her latest column.

“I have nothing against Barbie, the Seventies doll,” Carol wrote in Best magazine, before adding: “But everything about the new movie offends me like nothing has before and I’ve not seen it, nor will I. Because you just know that even though she was an icon of an age gone by, Hollywood will somehow turn her into a professional feminist.

“And Margot Robbie so miscast. The obvious person to play the plastic, out-of-proportion doll with the pink house was Katie Price!”

The movie portrays what the dolls created by Mattel would do if they were left completely alone, with no real human interactions. However, their life is thrown into chaos when they travel to what is said to be the real world in their car which spins around in the air.

Despite receiving widespread praise, writer Greta Gerwig explained she was terrified to take on the job after Margot Robbie and Warner Bros had purchased the rights to the movie.

She also believes that Margot Robbie has been miscast

“It’s not like a superhero, who already has a story. It felt very much like it was going to be an adaptation,” she told The Guardian, before adding: “Except what we were adapting is a doll – an icon of the 20th century.”

But while Gosling and Robbie may have taken the lead roles, Gerwig also had her eyes set on Timothée Chalamet and friend and co-star Saoirse Ronan making a cameo appearance. Gerwig had previously worked with Chalamet and Ronan on the 2019 coming-of-age movie, Little Women.

Speaking about cutting Saoirse’s cameo from the movie, Greta said: “Well, it was always going to have to be like a sort of smaller thing because she was actually producing at the time, which I am so proud of her for,” and of Timothée, she added: “But it was going to be a speciality cameo. I was also going to do a speciality cameo with Timmy. Both of them couldn’t do it and I was so annoyed. But I love them so much. But it felt like doing something without my children. I mean, I’m not their mom, but I sort of feel like their mom.”

Last year, Ronan told People that she was supposed to play “another Barbie” while the crew were filming in London but she was left gutted when she discovered she couldn’t take part.

Loose Women dramatically cuts off as fans ‘work out’ famous identity of secret sex writer

Loose Women got a little bit saucy during its final broadcast of the week, as Judi Love read out some experts from a new erotic book – with viewers working out the identity of the secret famous author

Things got heated on Loose Women today – but not in the usual way.

The ITV show, no stranger to hosting some heated debates, quickly cut to an ad break during one steamy segment

Panelist Judi Love was on hand earlier today to read aloud an extract from the latest erotic novel from mystery writer The Secret Socialite.

But as the popular comedian reached a sex scene passage, describing a man as “huge”, the daily show quickly went off air as an advert began to appear on viewers’ screens.

In a seductive voice, Judy read out a snippet which had the studio giggling. She said: “His tongue brushed over her lips, she moved her body instinctively into his – they were an exact fit. They were wet and fully clothed as she could feel his huge…”

    Loose Women
The secret author appeared hidden behind a screen
The author of the steamy book series is said to be a famous woman who is staying anonymous in order to keep penning the books without risking changing her public reputation. Speaking on Loose Women today, Nadia Sawalha revealed it has taken a lot of effort to get the novelist in without revealing her identity.

However, those watching the ITV show think they’ve worked out who the famous woman responsible for penning the saucy books is. “Well this is Sarah Ferguson 100% who else talks like that,” one guessed on Twitter as the segment aired, with another adding: “Just what I thought.”

“I thought it sounded a bit like Heather Small,” one viewer suggested, as another pointed out the secret author’s silhouette revealed a tell-tale sign that exposed their identify, writing: “I noticed her [Sarah Ferguson] chin in the profile as my family has the same chin so we’ve talked about it before lol.”

Whilst another urged the author to reveal themselves, adding: “If I was her child, I would be extremely proud if her. Don’t be ashamed to identify yourself. #loosewomen Come out and don’t be ashamed of your past!! You wrote a book for heavens sake. You won’t reply, but it’s out there! Regards.” Someone else pondered: “That sounds like Kelly Hoppen.”

The Secret Socialite’s latest book, Naked in Mayfair, hit bookshop shelves last month and follows the story of Ava, a blonde bombshell and newly divorced banker who leads a glamorous life in Mayfair and is looking for love again. Naked in Mayfair promises to give readers an illuminating glimpse behind closed doors, in the back of a Bentley and at 30,000 feet.

During the author’s appearance on the ITV show, she was only referred to as Ava, which is also the name of the book’s main character. Outwardly, book character Ava is confident and successful, yet she feels alone in the world as she gives the reader an insight into her search for love, meaning, inner peace – and ultimately, self-acceptance.

Loose Women’s Nadia shows off ‘real’ bikini snaps as she demands hubby ‘makes her look sexy’

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha had her fans in stitches as she showed off her real bikini body during a spa break as she demanded her husband ‘makes her look sexy’ when taking pictures

Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha showed off her real bikini video in a hilarious video as she demands her husband “makes her look sexy”.

The ITV star, 58, took to her social media to share her spa day with Mark Adderley. She tried to replicate influencers as she posed throughout the pool area.

Nadia donned a white and black polka dot bikini as she tried to get into multiple different poses. The former EastEnders actress even braved a cold water plunge pool to try to make it look as if she was on holiday in Iceland’s Blue Lagoon.

She captioned her funny clip: “For godsake @mark_adderley just make me look sexy ?!!!!! #DOINGITFORTHGRAM #influencerfail.” In the video, Nadia was seen lying on a sun lounger as Mark could be heard from behind the camera saying: “It doesn’t look natural. What am I doing.”

She then got into a pool and braved standing in front of a water fountain for the perfect shot. Mark said: “It’s quite a good angle for this sort of shot.”

He then turned the water on, splashing Nadia right in the face. She was left drenched before trying again in another part of the spa. This time, Nadia wanted to be surrounded by bubbles but eneded up tipping backwards and getting a mouthfull of water.

Despite not getting an influencer-style pic for her Instagram, Nadia’s fans loved her video as one said: “The most “real” woman on Instagram.”

“I’m laughing at the lifeguard he’s probably in stitches,” added another. Someone else wrote: “You two are such a double act lol. Love you both.”

“You both are fabulous. Such a lovely couple. So funny and brighten up my day. Always make me smile,” gushed a fourth. “So refreshing, honestly,” commented another.

Nadia often takes to her social media to make digs at other celebs trying to get their “perfect” pics. She recently compared herself to fitness fanatic Vanessa Munley as she larked around on the beach in a thong with her husband, Mark.

Mixing the clip with shots of Vanessa showing off her tiny pink two piece, Nadia, who looked gorgeous sporting a sage glittery bikini and naturally curly hair, wrote: “#insatgramvsreality. Turn the volume up ! Bloody @mark_adderley added sound affects without me knowing!

“Did you miss us ! Back tomorrow! @vanessamunley is a goddess and works her a**e off for that beautiful a**e !!!” Nadia’s video went down a storm with fans, including Vanessa, who replied: “Hahahha omg hilarious!! Thank you so much.”

The Celebrity MasterChef winner is best known for being a Loose Women panellist as well as appearing on EastEnders from 1997 to 1999, playing the role of Annie Palmer.

Mum-of-two Nadia is often praised for her body positive messages and for being “relatable”. Over Christmas, Nadia posted a video copying a model doing up her jeans before relaxing onto a leather armchair.

Wearing her bra, she wriggled and attempted to pull up her jeans, before eventually falling and collapsing onto a leather sofa. She captioned the clip: “Relate?” alongside laughing emojis with the hashtag “riots not diets” and was met with praise for her ‘relatable’ video after indulging over the Christmas break.

BBC Breakfast and ITV daytime CHAOS today with major schedule changes and presenters missing

BBC Breakfast and ITV daytime are in chaos today due to schedule changes on the broadcasters owing to the start of the Women’s World Cup live from Australia and New Zealand

BBC Breakfast and ITV daytime shows have been moved or axed all together for the day amid some huge schedule changes.

The breakfast show for the BBC usually airs between 6am and 9:15am every day on their main channel, BBC One, whilst ITV usually offer their daytime shows from 6am. Good Morning Britain usually runs until 9am, when Lorraine takes over until 10am. From there, This Morning usually airs between 10am and 12.30pm, whilst Loose Women take over for the final hour.

However, in a huge shake-up this morning, most of the programmes didn’t air as usual.

BBC Breakfast moved from BBC One to BBC Two and whilst Naga Munchetty was absent last week, she was back on the famous red sofa this week and was joined by Ben Thompson rather than Charlie Stayt.

Sharing a snap of them on the sofa, Ben wrote: “We’re jumping over from @BBCOne to @BBCTwo now, where we’ll be with you until 9am…. to make way for the Women’s World Cup. Find your remote, and join us.”

Meanwhile, on ITV, Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard led the coverage for Good Morning Britain before Lorraine Kelly took over at 9am, where she is set to host until 10.15am for a bumper long episode.

Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary issued a statement at the end of This Morning yesterday confirming they’d be off air for Thursday and would be back on our screens on Friday. They’re standing in for Holly Willoughby, who is on a long summer break.

As they ended the show, Alison said: “We’re back with you on Friday because tomorrow’s the women’s football World Cup. We’ll see you then with a special performance from the cast of 42nd Street. John Torode’s in the kitchen making a classic Aussie burger.”

Dermot added: “And Britain’s Got Talent winner Viggo Venn will be live in the studio. That’s on Friday at 10am, see you then.”

On BBC Breakfast, Naga and Ben fronted the show on BBC One until 7.30am before swapping to BBC Two.

“You’ve been watching Breakfast on BBC One. Now, we are going to leave you here on BBC One because coming up next is live coverage of the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand,” Ben shared.

Naga added: “If you want to stay with us, you can turn over to BBC Two. We’re going to be on there until 9 o’clock.”

Ex Loose Women’s Saira Khan slams show and says only Stacey Solomon was allowed to be ‘fun’

Saira Khan has slammed Loose Women for putting her in a ‘silo’, claiming the ITV daytime show only allowed her former co-host Stacey Solomon to be ‘the fun one’

Former Loose Women presenter Saira Khan has criticised the show, claiming Stacey Solomon was the only panelist allowed to be the ‘fun one’.

The Apprentice star, 53, quit the programme in 2020 after five years, saying she had to “tolerate” some of her co-stars.

Saira also claimed the environment was ‘toxic’ as well as claiming producers had asked her to sign up to OnlyFans as a PR stunt – and now she’s slammed the show again.

Speaking about her experience on the panel, Saira accused ITV bosses of ‘siloing’ her, saying: “On Loose Women you saw me being quite passionate, heated and feisty, but that’s the silo they put me in.

Former Loose Women presenter Saira Khan
Saira quit the show after five years on the panel

“I wanted to have a bit of fun, but that wasn’t for me, that was for Stacey Solomon. Stacey was the fun one, but I had to be the loud, gobby one,” reports Closer magazine.

When she quit the show, the mum-of-two claimed the culture of Loose Women encouraged the presenters to argue, which made her “into a bitchy person I don’t want to be”. Saira added: “I started to realise they just wanted me to tick the box of ‘gobby Muslim woman’.”

The presenter also claimed her comments taken out of context would be packaged up and used as clickbait, and often she would have to deal with the subsequent trolling and death threats. “I was never sat down and reassured to make sure I was OK,” she said.

Responding to Saira’s claims at the time, ITV said: “We strongly refute all of these claims. Duty of care is of paramount importance for all of our panellists. Saira left the panel almost two years ago and we wish her well.”

A source added: “We were told Saira was leaving to focus on her ‘businesses and online’ and that ‘she has nothing but good things to say about the show’. We are therefore surprised to hear these claims.”

Saira received mixed reviews when she featured on Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary, which used a soundbite from Loose Women.

Writing for The Mirror she said: “When the world was introduced to Meghan Markle, I was so happy. A woman of colour in one of the most recognised institutions in the world was a symbol of change, hope and progress.”

On Loose Women, I raised my hands excitedly and sang: “There’s a brown girl in da house.”

However, Saira said “the social media trolls attacked” her over the soundbite, adding: “Some felt referencing Meghan’s skin colour was ‘inappropriate’. Others said they hadn’t even noticed until I mentioned it.

“Both viewpoints are problematic. The colour of her skin mattered because it represented diversity and inclusion and gave the white, privileged Royal Family a different perspective. To ignore Meghan’s mixed-race heritage is a passive-aggressive way of not acknowledging her.”

The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment on this story.

Loose Women star heartbroken as thieves break into car AGAIN and steal valuable item

Loose Women star and TV personality Sophie Morgan has shared her heartbreak after her car was broken into for a second time this year meaning she lost a valuable item

Loose Women star Sophie Morgan was left heartbroken after thieves broke into her car and stole valuable items.

The disability campaigner, 38, took to her social media to share that her £4000 wheelchair attachment was among the items taken. Sophie, who is paralysed from the waist down following a car accident, explained the equipment has “no value” to anyone else but her

A Batec is used to make traditional wheelchairs motorised. Yet the TV personality discovered hers had been stolen after the rear windscreen of her BMW was smashed.

Alongside the picture, she wrote: “My car has been broken into AGAIN. It was parked at my friend’s house in Camden, near Regents Park for an HOUR.

“They have taken my WHEELCHAIR ATTACHMENT called a Batec. It is an essential mobility aid worth £4000. It has been stolen along with a small black suitcase filled with personal items such as clothes, shoes etc. of NO VALUE to anyone but me.

“Please, please, if anyone saw anything, please report it to the Police or DM me.” Sophie’s windscreen was completely smashed, as shattered glass surrounded the car.

Earlier this year Sophie was left fuming after her Blue Badge was stolen from her car. She explained her car was broken into whilst she was away working in America in March.

Speaking on the BBC’s disability podcast Access All, Sophie revealed: “I literally can’t describe how disabling this is. I had this rage in me at the injustice, all the frustration, the inconvenience, all of those feelings.

“I can’t drive my car without my badge as I can’t get in or out [of the vehicle] without space to get my wheelchair beside my car. And without the guarantee of a disabled space, it’s not worth the risk.”

Blue Badges are issued by local councils and allow the holders to get free or longer parking as well as using disabled spaces. Nothing else was taken from her car at the time.

Sophie was involved in a car accident in 2003, when she was just 18 and had picked up her A-level results from her boarding school, Gordonstoun, in Scotland.

Driving four friends home in her car, she veered off the road and ended up trapped beneath it, suffering severe injuries that left her paralysed from the chest down.

Sophie revealed: “I have post-traumatic stress disorder from all the things that have happened to me. And as much as I have coped very well, there are a huge number of issues that I need to work through since my car crash.”

In recent years, the presenter has been lobbying the government to implement a number of imperative legislative changes within the aviation industry in the UK as part of her RightsOnFlights campaign.

Sophie had taken a flight back to the UK from Los Angeles when she was waiting to be reunited with her wheelchair which was being kept in the hold, only to find out it had been damaged.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Private celebrity struggles with dementia – Loose Women star to football legend

EXCLUSIVE: Private celebrity struggles with dementia – Loose Women star to football legend

Some famous faces are using their positions in the spotlight to raise awareness and research into the causes of these painful diseases…

Alzheimer’s disease currently affects around six in every 10 people with dementia in the UK, and earlier this year, the Office for National Statistics revealed that these conditions were the leading causes of death in 2022.

Naturally, celebrities and their families aren’t immune from these often life-shattering diagnoses, and although many wish to maintain their privacy on the matter, some famous faces are using their positions in the spotlight to raise awareness and research into the causes of these painful diseases…

    Ruth Langsford

The Loose Women host, 63, sadly lost her father Dennis to complications caused by dementia back in 2012, after he was cared for by her mother Joan for the last 13 years of his life. Ruth – who has since become a member of the Alzheimer’s Society, having fronted several of the charity’s campaigns over the last decade – previously recalled the moment her family became aware of her father’s condition.

She said, “My family knew nothing about Alzheimer’s disease at all, and again, like a lot of people just thought, ‘Oh, that’s something when people get old and forget where they put their car keys’. And then you realise it’s so much more.”

She previously told her fellow ITV panellists, “Watching my father with Alzheimer’s, I was grieving and losing my dad, but my mum was losing the love of her life – the young man that she married and had children with. They have years and years of memories.”

    Sally Lindsay

Sally has been open about her own fears of developing dementia, after losing her grandma to Alzheimer’s as a teenager.

“My grandmother was so vibrant, and bit by bit we saw her personality diminish until she wasn’t there any more,” the Coronation Street actress previously detailed. “It was like the colour had gone, her soul had left her. She was only 64 when she was diagnosed and lived with it for six years before her passing. Losing a loved one to Alzheimer’s is seeing them die twice – when their memory goes and then when their body does. It’s horrendous.”

    David Baddiel

Comedy star David, 57, said he suffered “a huge hole in my sky” after losing his beloved father Colin to Pick’s disease – a type of frontotemporal dementia – last year.

The funny-man had previously fronted the 2017 documentary The Trouble With Dad, where he discussed Colin’s slowly deteriorating symptoms and his own concerns about eventually suffering from dementia. Explaining the reason for his on-screen investigation, David explained, “One reason I want to talk about my dad’s dementia publicly is because people have a very limited picture of what dementia is, and it’s actually much more complicated than that. What you get are fictitious ideas about dementia. I think we need to look at the dark rainbow of dementia and the different ways it manifests.”

    Robbie Savage

Robbie was forced to watch his own father Colin cut down by Pick’s disease in 2012 after a long and inflicting battle.

The 48-year-old joined the Alzheimer’s Society as an ambassador in honour of his dad, later telling fans, “Anyone who has experienced Pick’s disease or Alzheimer’s in their household knows that it doesn’t just claim one victim. Those who are left to care are victims, too.”

Former footballer turned pundit Robbie reminisced, “I used to go and visit my dad, knowing that he was gently slipping away, but often he would look right through you without a flicker of recognition and I would drive home with tears in my eyes. And yet, right near the end, when my mum was with him, he seemed to be gesturing towards the TV remote. She realised he had spotted me on the TV, doing the half-time analysis for the BBC, and he still recognised his son on the box.”

    Dame Arlene Phillips

Earlier this year, Dame Arlene, appeared in Parliament to demand the deliverance of timely access to an accurate Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The choreographer, 80, endured the emotional agony of seeing her father battle the condition for more than a decade, before he died in 2000.

In an open letter presented to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the former Strictly Come Dancing judge and Alzheimer’s Society ambassador wrote, “Sadly, like hundreds of thousands of families across the UK, I’ve seen the devastation caused by dementia, while caring for my father. I stand with everyone affected by dementia and urge the Government to deliver on their promises for the 900,000 people living with dementia.”

Arlene pleaded, “They need help now and hope for the future through more breakthroughs in research. We can’t let dementia fall down the political agenda – getting a diagnosis is the first step but such an important one.”

The Line Of Duty actress was named in King Charles’ Birthday honours last month for her charity work as an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society. MBE Vicky, 40, joined forces with the charity after her grandmother Iris was diagnosed with the condition in 2018, later founding the Nottingham-based Our Dementia Choir to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s.

“At first I didn’t really know what dementia meant and how it affected people. I had an idea it was just old people forgetting whether they’d locked the front door but then my nana developed dementia so its full impact really hit home,” she previously told fans.

“My nana is where my determination to defeat dementia was born from and she continues to inspire me. Now I feel that everything I do now that is related to the cause is in her memory. If it wasn’t for her I probably wouldn’t be here doing all these things. It’s her legacy.”

Charlene White walks off Loose Women set and declares ‘it’s a daytime show’

Loose Women star Charlene White declared ‘it’s a daytime show’ as she walked off set after co-star Brenda Edwards’ rude comment that left viewers giggling

Loose Women’s Charlene White was left stunned after a rude comment on the show left her walking off declaring “it’s a daytime show”.

The ITV show descended into chaos on Tuesday as Charlene, Coleen Nolan, Brenda Edwards and Kelle Bryan discussed a study. It found people who listen to heavy metal have more partners than any other genre of music, and sparked a lively debate.

Each panellist shared what music they loved, as Kelle said Björk’s Play Dead was one of her favourite tracks. Brenda shared Black Sabbath’s Paranoid was one of her favourites, which promoted Charlene to ask if the study was correct.

Singer Brenda replied: “Not for me, personally.” But added she was “in her element” when she was able to work with mentor Sharon Osbourne’s husband Ozzy back in 2005 on The X Factor.

    Charlene White
Charlene left the desk after Brenda’s comment

Brenda confesses she was starstruck “seeing him in a show other than in Wembley”. Coleen then asked if playing heavy metal would be a turn on for her.

She simply replied: “You’d speed up innit!”. The remark made Charlene walk away from the table while the audience howled with laughter.

The I’m A Celebrity star eventually returned to her seat and told her co-stars: “Since this is a daytime show, I am going to move swiftly on.”

The comment had viewers at home giggling too as one said: “Brenda… I was laughing for a good 10 minutes OH MY GOD.” Another added: “Omg Brenda just made my day never laughed so much . # loose women.”

“Just love Brenda on #loosewomen,” wrote someone else. It comes after former Loose Women presenter Saira Khan criticised the show, claiming Stacey Solomon was the only panelist allowed to be the ‘fun one’.The Apprentice star, 53, quit the programme in 2020 after five years, saying she had to “tolerate” some of her co-stars. Speaking about her experience on the panel, Saira accused ITV bosses of ‘siloing’ her, saying: “On Loose Women you saw me being quite passionate, heated and feisty, but that’s the silo they put me in.

Responding to Saira’s claims at the time, ITV said: “We strongly refute all of these claims. Duty of care is of paramount importance for all of our panellists. Saira left the panel almost two years ago and we wish her well.”

Coleen Nolan and her lookalike daughter, Ciara Fensome, gave a glimpse at their stunning home for a special plant-based cooking segment on Wednesday’s Loose Women

Coleen Nolan has revealed that going vegan has been “life-changing” as she hosted a plant-based cooking segment with her lookalike daughter on Wednesday’s Loose Women.

Coleen revealed she had “opened up her home” to share the food that has “changed her life”, she said: “I went vegan three years ago, now, I know you’re all rolling your eyes… it’s not for everyone!

“But honestly, I feel so much healthier and my daughter Ciara has joined me on the journey.”

Talking about her decision to go vegan, Coleen continued: “We watched a documentary, which taught us about vegetarianism and the health benefits. A month later, we went vegan and I have to say, for us, it’s been life-changing.”

The mother and daughter then went on to rustle up some vegan burgers, showing viewers a demonstration of the recipe and how to cook the patties.

Coleen’s cooking segment gave Loose Women viewers a rare opportunity to glance inside her gorgeous family home, which featured a clean, white kitchen with dark grey worktops.

The kitchen had a mixture of cupboards and shelves – while a hanging rail with utensils on was placed on the wall above the lilac AGA stove.

Coleen’s worktops were filled with fruits and vegetables while a vase filled with bright yellow flowers was seen on the counter, too.

As she welcomed viewers into her home, Coleen and her daughter Ciara stood behind a stable door – which had the top open and the bottom closed and was surrounded by red brick, giving fans another view at her plush pad.

Back in the studio, Coleen handed her co-stars her vegan burgers, which had been prepared earlier, as they all commented on how tasty the meal was.

Coleen went on to discuss her plant-based lifestyle and diet, saying: “It has actually changed our lives, honestly.”

It comes after the star teased the cooking segment last month in a sweet photo with her lookalike daughter.

But the star also has daughter Ciara from her relationship with musician Ray Fensome.

Coleen shared a sweet photo with her youngest to Instagram last month, where the mum and daughter sweetly smiled in the sunshine.

In the caption, Coleen wrote: “Had a wonderful day yesterday doing some filming for something exciting with @ciarafensome.”
