Meghan Markle’s touching moment with King Charles was spread through these actions

Meghan Markle’s relationship with her father-in-law, King Charles III, has become the focus of a new viral video after footage from the royal’s 2018 wedding to Prince Harry resurfaced on TikTok.

King Charles's touching gesture for Meghan goes viral after cancer shock | Royal | News | Express.co.uk

Meghan’s relationships with members of the royal family were pulled into focus in 2020 after the duchess stepped down as a working member of the monarchy alongside Harry and moved to the U.S.

Meghan joined the royal family upon her marriage to Harry at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, Berkshire, in England, on May 19, 2018. The couple met in 2016 and became engaged a year later. In 2024, they will celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary, and together they have two children: Prince Archie, 4; and Princess Lilibet, 2.

Little is known about Meghan’s relationship with her father-in-law, the king. In her 2022 Netflix docuseries, she described Charles as “charming,” but she did not attend his May 2023 coronation in London with husband Harry; it happened to take place on her son’s fourth birthday.

Uploaded to TikTok by user @europeanroyals_ on March 28, one of Meghan’s most-touching exchanges with Charles has gone viral, spotlighting the moment the then-Prince of Wales walked her down the aisle at her wedding.

The decision for Charles to walk Meghan down the aisle was an unusual one and received widespread coverage at the time. It followed a highly publicized set of events, which saw Meghan’s own father, Thomas Markle, miss the high-profile event following a paparazzi collaboration and medical emergency.

The father of the bride traditionally walks her down the aisle at her wedding. In Markle’s absence, there was speculation that Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland, would step in to fulfill the role. However, on the day, Charles met his future daughter-in-law halfway through her walk at the chapel and guided her to Harry.

The viral clip has received in excess of 11,200 likes and over 140 comments, many of which have praised the royals and their interaction.

“The love the King shows Meghan is so special,” wrote one TikTok user.

“This was such a touching moment with the king. You can tell he liked Meghan. I’m sad she didn’t go to the coronation,” posted another, with a further comment reading: “Gorgeous wedding. The best royal wedding of all time.”

It was in the 2022 Harry & Meghan docuseries that Meghan revealed she personally asked Charles to walk her down the aisle at her wedding.

“Harry’s dad is very charming,” she told viewers, before going on to note her own father’s absence.

“I said to him, like, ‘I’ve lost my dad in this.’ So, him as my father-in-law was really important to me,” Meghan said.

“So, I asked him to walk me down the aisle, and he said yes,” she added. “The whole thing was surreal.”

Charles has made few public comments about Harry and Meghan since their split from the monarchy. However, in his accession speech, given in the days after he became king, he made a touching reference to the couple.

“I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas,” Charles said.

Meghan Markle’s last-ditch attempt to salvage famous friendship as network ‘falls apart’

In a far cry from Harry and Meghan’s star-studded wedding in 2018, the Duchess of Sussex is reportedly making a big effort to keep her dwindling set of celebrity friends

Meghan Markle is said to be making eleventh hour attempts to save her famous friendships, including sending a subtle message to Beyoncé in public.

The royal reportedly wore a specific clothing brand while shooting a new Netflix series in Beverly Hills Park last week with the aim of letting the singer know that “they’re still friends”, according to a celebrity insider. The Duchess of Sussex, 42, was spotted “specifically” wearing a tracksuit from Beyoncé’s Ivy Park brand at the shoot.

This apparent tactic comes amid claims that Meghan has been seeking out ways to keep hold of her precious few high profile friendships, as Hollywood’s elite have been “distancing themselves” from her and Prince Harry. “Meghan was filming for her new Netflix series and specifically chose to wear Ivy Park to highlight her connection to Beyoncé and send a message that they’re still friends, ” a source claimed to Heat.

“With practically every other famous friend distancing themselves from her and Harry, Meghan is understandably worried that their Hollywood network is falling apart, and Bey is the most well known of the few stars who will still associate with her”, they suggested. The royal wedding in 2018 saw a host of A-list celebrities in attendance, including the Clooneys and Idris Elba, but the source now claims that Meghan feels like she needs Beyoncé’s support to “save the Sussex brand”.

Amidst Harry’s ongoing feud with his brother, for example, the Beckhams have reportedly sided with the William and Kate. Meghan is “really going for it” to try and save as many of the dwindling celebrity friendships, including trying to befriend Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles, as well as Tyler Perry, who is friends with the singer.

According to the source, the royal also invited Beyoncé herself to a July 4 party despite “not having spoken to her in months”. She also is said to have contacted the singer’s production company, Parkwood Entertainment, regarding a new project.

Meghan Markle and King Charles rumours dismissed as absolutely ‘beneath’ monarch

King Charles’ home at Highgrove also sells high end, organic products such as jams and honey, and there have been suggestions of a Royal rivalry between the two brands

Meghan Markle’s foray into the world of homeware sales, featuring items like bespoke jams and dog treats, has been stirring up quite the buzz lately.

Following murmurs that Meghan is seeking King Charles’ endorsement for her lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, an insider spilled to OK! Magazine’s US edition that the Duchess of Sussex is “looking for support wherever she can get it.” They added: “Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice are at the top of her list, but she is shooting even higher and would love to get King Charles to give his stamp of approval.”

This intrigue emerges amid whispers of a possible competitive edge between the Royals, who have a history of marketing similar home and gift items, and Meghan’s new venture. With King Charles’ own Highgrove residence offering premium organic delights such as jams and honey, the notion of any friction seems beneath Royal concern, according to former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond.

Jennie said: “I absolutely refuse to buy into suggestions of a petty rivalry between Meghan’s products and the release of new products from the Highgrove estate,” She added, “Highgrove has been coming up with new products for years now. The marketing might have become more sophisticated over time, but there has always been publicity about the organic produce from the farm and gardens.

“I really don’t think that Charles or his marketing people would sink so low as to try to deliberately compete with or scupper Meghan and her team. Why would Charles want to make things worse than they already are? So I think it’s a load of old nonsense and would be beneath him.”

Meghan Markle’s foray into the artisan jam market with her American Riviera Orchard lifestyle brand has set Royal tongues wagging, with insiders expressing a collective sigh of relief, say experts. The Duchess of Sussex’s latest business move is seen as a refreshing change from the much-anticipated “tell-all” book that had been expected by Royal enthusiasts.

Emma Clifton, a journalist at Australian Women’s Weekly, suggested that this pivot towards a more homely enterprise could be seen as good news for the Royals. She said: “Considering how much anticipation there was for Meghan’s supposed ‘tell-all-novel’, her pivot into domestic goddess should surely mean there are a few sighs of relief around the palace…for now.

Celebrity PR guru Waylon Tate spoke to Australian Women’s Weekly about Meghan’s distinct approach to branding her new venture.

“What I’ve seen so far, although she’s been pretty clandestine about it – everything surrounding this new brand, is that it’s Meghan and it’s Meghan alone. You can even see it on Instagram. It’s not Meghan and Harry – it’s by Meghan,” said Tate. “This is the emancipation of Meghan. It’s her saying, ‘I’m a smart, savvy businesswoman. And here’s an introduction to my family on my terms’.”

ITV Loose Women descended into a fiery debate on Friday as the panellists argued about how you decide whether to get a pet dog or not

Loose Women took a fiery turn on Friday as the panellists debated about how you decide whether to get a pet dog or not.

During the latest episode, it was revealed that Judi Love was in a dilemma as she was considering whether to get a pet dog or not with her co-stars offering their views. Kaye Adams was all in favour of getting a pet dog but Jane Moore was defiantly against the idea.

Kaye, 60, said: “Judi is on the cusp of maybe considering possibly a furry friend…” to which Jane, 61, immediately shouted: “Don’t do it!”, adding: “Your lifestyle does not suit a dog!” with Kaye replying: “She’ll have to change her lifestyle.”

As Judi, 43, revealed that she wanted a dog as a companion and that she would spoil it, Jane declared: “I’m going to set my watch, three months time: ‘Wish I’d listened to you, Jane!’” with Kaye responding: “I don’t agree!” the panellists then did a test from the charity Dogs Trust, which had questions such as “do you have the time”, to which Jane interrupted.

Kaye then said: “Jane, why are you so anti-dog?” with Jane declaring: “I’m not anti-dog, I’m anti people getting a dog when not in the right set up to have one” with Kaye repeating: “You are anti-dog!” the latter then pointed out how much a dog can enhance your life.

To which Jane interrupted with: “But it’s not about a dog enhancing your life, you’ve got to make it right for the dog….” Kaye then pointed out about her own pet dog: “What I’m saying is, I changed my life….” with Jane interrupting with: “Well, you’re here [at work on Loose Women!” A stunned and laughing Kaye was quick to fire back with: “Stop being so aggressive!”

To which Jane explained: “I’m just speaking on behalf of places like Dogs Trust, if you work all day you would not pass the test to take a dog from the Dogs Trust.” At the end of the show, Kaye read out messages from viewers over whether Judi should get a pet dog with the majority of fans agreeing she should.

As Wimbledon 2023 gets underway, the Royal Family will once again be out in full force at the All England Lawn Tennis Club – and one tennis star has a unique link to the royals through her fiance

As Wimbledon swings into action once more, royal watchers are keen to know when they’ll spot members of the Royal Family in the stands. Regular attendees include The Prince and Princess of Wales and The Duke of Kent.

Many famous tennis players have ties with the royals, from Rafael Nadal’s close friendship with The Princess of Wales to Serena Williams’ strong bond with The Duchess of Sussex. However, there’s another connection between a world-renowned tennis star and Prince William, courtesy of her fiancé.

Tennis ace Maria Sharapova has been in a relationship with Alexander Gilkes since 2018, and they announced their engagement on December 17, 2021. In April 2021, the couple revealed they were expecting their first child who was born in July 2022.

This puts Sharapova in the unique position of being the latest tennis player linked to the Royal Family, as her fiancé is a good friend of both Prince William and Prince Harry.

Alexander Mark Heming Gilkes, a Londoner born in July 1979, has made a name for himself in the art world, using connections that date back to his time at Eton College and later at the University of Bristol. He shared his Eton years with Prince William, and has kept a close bond with the future king.

He also has a link to Kate through his brother Charlie Gilkes, who previously dated Pippa Middleton. Alexander Gilkes, a prominent figure in the art world, co-founded the online auction house Paddle8 back in 2011 and was at the helm as president until his departure in 2018. His connections to royalty include Princess Eugenie, who spent some time working at Paddle8.

Before he started dating tennis superstar Maria Sharapova in 2018, Gilkes was married to fashion designer Misha Nonoo, who is friends with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and is rumoured to have set them up.

The couple announced their engagement on Instagram in 2021, with Maria sharing: “I said yes from the first day we met. This was our little secret, wasn’t it @gilkesa.” Gilkes also expressed his joy, posting: “Thank you for making me a very very happy boy. I look forward to a lifetime of loving you, and learning from you @mariasharapova.”

  • Prince Harry ‘stunned’ by backlash to his ESPY nomination for ‘the Pat Tillman Award for Service’ after Afghanistan veteran’s own mother said she would have preferred for it to go to someone ‘less privileged’

Prince Harry ‘stunned’ by backlash to his ESPY nomination for ‘the Pat Tillman Award for Service’ after Afghanistan veteran’s own mother said she would have preferred for it to go to someone ‘less privileged’

Prince Harry was ‘stunned’ by the backlash he faced after being nominated for an award named after an American war hero killed in Afghanistan, sources have claimed.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, is due to be honoured with the Pat Tillman Award for Service for his Invictus Games work at the glitzy ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on July 11.

Tillman, an American football star who gave up a £3million contract to enlist in the US Army after 9/11, had his life tragically cut short at the age of 27 when he was killed in friendly fire while serving in Afghanistan 20 years ago.

His mother Mary, who said she was not consulted about Prince Harry being given the award bearing her son’s name, told the Mail last week: ‘I am shocked as to why they would select such a controversial and divisive individual to receive the award.

‘There are recipients that are far more fitting. There are individuals working in the veteran community that are doing tremendous things to assist veterans.

‘These individuals do not have the money, resources, connections or privilege that Prince Harry has. I feel that those types of individuals should be recognised.’

The ESPY Awards (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) is run by the sports TV network ESPN and the Pat Tillman Award has previously been given to unsung heroes.

Last year it went to members of the Buffalo Bills American football team training staff who revived a dying player on the field.

ESPN said Harry was being honoured for his ‘tireless work in making a positive impact for the veteran community through the power of sport’ with his Invictus Games.

But the decision to honour him has led to a backlash.

Sources told The Telegraph that it is a ‘bitter pill to swallow’ when the Duke of Sussex is criticised about anything relating to his military record and work with veterans.

‘Harry’s legacy on Invictus, the things he has achieved, that’s his real passion,’ they said. ‘This is the space in which he truly feels at home, it is something he deeply cares about. The reaction certainly took the shine off the award.’

The source acknowledged that it was similar to when Harry, who completed two tours of Afghanistan as an Apache helicopter pilot was recognised as a Living Legend of Aviation at a star-studded ceremony in Beverly Hills, California, in January.

As he joined the likes of astronauts Buzz Aldrin and James Lovell in picking up the prestigious award, Admiral Lord West, former head of the Royal Navy, brutally said: ‘He is not a living legend’.

The latest backlash began almost straight after ESPN announced on June 27 that Harry would be given the  Pat Tillman Award for Service.

A petition to urge ESPN to reasses its decision boasted almost 68,000 signatures in ten days.

Do you think Prince Harry deserves the ESPY Awards nomination?

It said: ‘Pat Tillman exemplified duty, honour, and sacrifice.’

‘He gave up his successful NFL career to serve his country after the 9/11 attacks, and tragically lost his life during his service. Awarding this honour to someone who does not reflect the award’s intent diminishes its value and disrespects Tillman’s memory.’

Former NFL player Pat McAfee also waded in, saying: ‘We should celebrate sports. The worldwide leaders should celebrate sport but doing something like this is obviously trying to p*** people off.’

He said they should create a new category just for the duke. ‘How about it’s like ESPY for Royal Family member who doesn’t want to be called ‘Royal Family member’ who loves sports?’

Jake Wood, a former Pat Tillman Award winner, later defended Prince Harry on TMZ Live, saying: ‘He’s a royal prince, there’s 100 different things he could have done with his life after his service in the British Armed Forces but he’s chosen to dedicate a big portion of his post-military life to helping veterans.’

The source acknowledged that it was similar to when Harry was recognised as a Living Legend of Aviation at a star-studded ceremony in Beverly Hills, California, in January (pictured)

Pat Tillman was hailed in the US after giving up his lucrative career with the Arizona Cardinals to enlist as an Army Ranger.

He served in Iraq and then Afghanistan, where he was killed by friendly fire in 2004. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for bravery.

A spokesman for ESPN previously said: ‘ESPN, with the support of the Tillman Foundation, is honouring Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, specifically for the work of The Invictus Games Foundation as it celebrates its 10th year promoting healing through the power of sport for military service members and veterans around the world.

‘While we understand not everyone will agree with all honourees selected for any award, The Invictus Games Foundation does incredible work and ESPN believes this is a cause worth celebrating.’

When the Princess of Wales announced her cancer diagnosis to the world via a video message on March 22, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a statement, saying—particularly in light of the rampant conspiracy theories that surrounded Kate at the time—that “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”

As Kate continues to receive treatment for cancer—but has returned to the public eye, which happened on June 15 at the annual Trooping the Colour parade and flypast—Harry and Meghan are “desperately” trying to connect with Kate, OK reports, and “hope to trigger a truce,” the outlet writes.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince William, and Kate Middleton

The relationship between the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remains fractured after years of tension.

“Both Harry and Meghan have been following Kate’s recovery with huge interest, but, sadly, it’s had to be more from afar because their lines of communication with the Palace and the Waleses, in particular, are very limited, to say the least,” a source said. “They have had enough information to know that people are excited about the idea of a comeback for Kate, and they’re both relieved and happy to hear that she’s on the mend and may soon be well enough to return to her duties.”

They added that “They’ve jointly reached out to send well-wishes, but they’re still not really in a place with Kate to warrant much of a response,” but, that said, it “hasn’t stopped them from trying to connect.”

It likely, at this point, doesn’t need to be said that the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family have had strained relationships within the past few years, but health scares—both for the royal family and any family—are a great unifier, and often put life into perspective.

    Prince Harry and Kate Middleton

Harry has called Kate the sister he never had in the past; the two used to be extremely close.

As Kate comes back into the public eye after being away from it nearly for the entirety of 2024, the source said that it is Harry and Meghan’s hope that her recovery could “possibly trigger a truce with her and [Prince] William, and with the King, too,” they said. Though she and Kate haven’t always seen eye-to-eye, when it comes to Meghan, “her heart does go out to Kate—she can only imagine how hard this situation must be for her,” they said. “Meghan has made it clear she’d love nothing more than to move past all the nonsense and find a way towards healing for everyone’s sake. She’s ready to let the anger and bitterness go.”

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun that a public message of support could be a way for the Sussexes to offer an olive branch, and, as for the possibility of a reconciliation between the Sussexes and the royal family, he said “You never know what may happen. I think it’s abundantly clear that any rift is undesirable, and when individuals are ill who are involved in it, it makes it even more undesirable.” In addition to Kate battling cancer, so too is King Charles, Harry’s father.

Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle during the mourning period for Queen Elizabeth in September 2022

The health scares of 2024 have, no doubt, put life into perspective for every member of the royal family, including both couples.

A source told The Sun, in response to Fitzwilliams’ suggestion, that “I must express that this perspective appears somewhat one-sided. For the sake of balanced reporting, it is important to acknowledge that relationships are reciprocal. It would not be entirely fair to place the sole responsibility of mending the relationship on the Duke and Duchess [of Sussex].”

But mending fences has to start somewhere, and, as Fitzwilliams correctly pointed out, “Time can heal things. Serious illness can certainly change things.”

We hope, in this case, he’s right.

TOM QUINN CLAIMS PRINCE HARRY MISSES HIS FRIENDS

Royal expert Tom Quinn claimed that Prince Harry is missing his home country, and he is “bored” of his “difficult” wife, Meghan Markle. Prince Harry and Meghan tied the knot on 19 May 2018 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Two years later, the pair quit their roles as senior working members of the royal family and moved to California, US to start a new life with their family.

Prince Harry and Meghan have two children together – Prince Archie (5) and Princess Lilibet (3). According to Quinn Prince Harry’s friends won’t visit him in the US because they find Meghan “difficult.”

“Harry is increasingly bored and looking back across the Atlantic where most of his army and school friends still live and whom he never sees because they won’t visit him in the States because they find Meghan difficult,” royal expert Tom Quinn told The Mirror.

THE DUKE OF SUSSEX DIDN’T ATTEND FRIENDS WEDDING

The New York Post reports that Prince Archie’s godfather and Prince Harry’s longtime friend, Hugh Grosvenor, got married in England in June and Harry did not attend the wedding. While Prince William served as an usher at the wedding.

A source told Daily Mail that Prince William had a prominent role at the wedding, which led to Prince Harry declining the invitation.

“William was asked to have a prominent role in the wedding and that’s what triggered Harry to decline an invitation. Apparently he [Harry] was put out by the request when he thought it should have been him,” said the source to Daily Mail.

Prince William attended the wedding alone. This was after his wife, Princess Kate Middleton revealed that she had cancer in March. at the time, she revealed that she would be undergoing chemotherapy.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful,” she said as she is seen seated on a garden bench at Windsor Castle.

“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team, therefore, advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” she continued.

This came after King Charles revealed his cancer diagnosis in February.

Harry and Meghan will celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary on May 19 and have often been praised for both their spoken and apparent physical affection for one another in public. Since 2020, the couple have lived in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

In July 2022, the prince was invited to speak at the United Nations during a session celebrating Nelson Mandela International Day. The royal was accompanied to New York by Meghan, where the couple were photographed walking into the chamber hand-in-hand.

Captioned “Still not over that man doing this at the United Nations. And Meghan’s smile like IKTR [I know that’s right],” the X post has received in excess of 12,000 likes and over 100 comments, many of which have praised the couple and their affection in public.

“I love how he places his hand on her knee as he looks back. still letting her know he is protecting her ! I love them,” wrote on user.

“He really did all that…He loves himself some Princess Meghan,” posted another, with a further comment reading: “I love that for them.”

During his U.N. speech, Harry paid tribute to three important figures in his life. The first being the event’s namesake, Nelson Mandela, whose work and legacy the prince said serves as an inspiration to himself and others.

The second figure was his mother, Princess Diana, who died in 1997. Harry visited Africa with his father soon after his mother’s death, a trip he said helped him feel close to her.

And the third figure was Meghan. Discussing Africa, the prince referred to a vacation he spent with her in Botswana soon after they started dating.

“Since I first visited Africa at 13 years old, I’ve always found hope on the continent. In fact, for most of my life, it has been my lifeline, a place where I have found peace and healing time and time again,” he said in his speech

“It’s where I’ve felt closest to my mother and sought solace after she died, and where I knew I had found a soulmate in my wife.

“And it’s why so much of my work is based there. Because, despite continued hardship, there are people across Africa who embody Mandela’s spirit and ideals—building on the progress he helped make possible.”

The design is named the “Ginger,” being either a deliberate or happily coincidental tribute to the duchess’ husband’s famous red hair.

The wrap fronted halter-neck design featured a pleated hemmed skirt and exposed back, crafted in an ivory silk and hemp blend, priced at $515.

Meghan watched her husband take to the field from the sidelines with the wives of fellow players, such as Harry’s pal Nacho Figueras’ wife, Delfina. Friends of the couple were also in attendance, including tennis legend Serena Williams.

The couple’s polo appearance came just a day after their production company, Archewell Productions, announced it was working on a documentary series delving into the behind-the-scenes action of the elite equine sport.

A press release issued through Harry and Meghan’s personal website stated that the new show, which is being produced as part of their partnership with streaming giant Netflix, will be primarily shot at the U.S. Open Polo Championship in Florida at the USPA National Polo Center.

The show, it said, will “provide viewers with unprecedented access to the world of professional polo.”

“Known primarily for its aesthetic and social scene, the series will pull the curtain back on the grit and passion of the sport, capturing players and all it takes to compete at the highest level,” they added.

Meghan’s choice to select her polo dress on Friday from a California based lifestyle brand comes as she recently made her own in-roads into the business sector.

Back in March, the duchess soft-launched her American Riviera Orchard brand with a slick new website and Instagram page. Though no details have yet been released about the brand and its offerings, trademark applications have sought to protect the name against the sale of a diverse range of product, including tableware, stationery, yoga mats, gardening accessories, pet food and nut butters.

On the day of the round robin polo event, Harry stormed to victory with his team, Royal Salute Sentebale, taking the trophy which was presented by Meghan in a prize-giving ceremony.

Sentebale was co-founded by Harry in 2006 with his close friend, Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. The organization supports young people in Lesotho and Botswana, including those affected by HIV and AIDS.
