Loose Women star breaks silence on reason she quit show and who she’s still in touch with

Saira Khan has opened up about her time on Loose Women and the real reason she decided to quit the ITV chat show after five years on the panel back in 2020

Saira Khan, the former Loose Women panellist, has opened up about her time on the show, why she decided to leave, and the friendships she maintains post-exit in a candid chat. In an exclusive with Woman’s Own magazine, the one-time Apprentice star who shot to fame as the runner-up in the inaugural 2005 series reflected on her stint from 2015 to 2020 on the panel of the hit daytime TV show.

She explained her departure from Loose Women, saying: “It was more about me growing up and saying, ‘Look, this is what I like, and this is what I don’t like,’ and some of the things that go on, I was just not comfortable with it, and I think you have to be honest with it.””It doesn’t mean you’re falling out, it just means it’s not enough for me.”

Khan also dished on her current ties with her ex-co-stars. “I recently went out with Ruth [Langsford] to go and see Coleen [Nolan] on her solo tour in Blackpool,” she revealed.

“I keep in touch with Andrea [McLean] and Denise [Welch]. I know people think I fell out with them all, but it wasn’t about the girls, it was more about me to be honest with you.”, reports OK!.

Post-Loose Women, Saira took on the gruelling SAS: Who Dares Wins, joining celebs like Kerry Katona, James Cracknell, Alexandra Burke, and Wes Nelson. She’s also been seen on the Jeremy Vine on 5 morning show, which she admits to preferring over her Loose Women gig.

“I wouldn’t go back to Loose Women I’ve done that and I think I’ve come out of it realising I want to move forward, and I want to do things that I really enjoy,” she shared. “Also, Jeremy Vine gives me space to talk about politics as well as just talking about my private life and who I am. I think people can get a bit bored of that, and the same subjects.”

“I also like the diversity of it, and that it’s not just all females there’s men and women, and I quite like that. It’s a bit more real life, and you can have a bit more laughter.”

When she joined Jeremy’s show earlier this year, she told The Mirror : “After taking a few years off the telly, it was nice to be back and I didn’t realise how much I missed it. It was Jeremy [Vine] who persuaded me to come back.”

She added: “I think it’s good to have a break and I feel more confident now about who I am and what I want to say.”

They added: “They were as close to Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan as you could get,” reports MailOnline. Meanwhile, a pal of the pair told The Sun how the couple drifted apart in recent months as their work commitments “took them in different directions”.

Recently, Ruth touched on the subject of her marriage in a TV appearance and revealed how she would hate her marriage to end. While appearing on Loose Women, she confessed she would hate it if Eamonn were to leave her for a woman the same age as her and not someone younger.

So, as the star prepares to make a statement about the end of her marriage, here’s a look at her Loose Women colleagues, who also decided to call it a day with their husbands.

Birds of a Feather star, Linda, 65, broke the news she and her husband, Mark Dunford, were splitting up on Loose Women last year.

After 33 years of marriage, the actress spoke to OK! magazine about the breakdown of their relationship, insisting the split wasn’t triggered by anything dramatic. Linda shared: “People do, sometimes, don’t they? We never had that much in common. I’m very sociable. Mark never enjoyed that side of things.”

The mum-of-four continued to explain how their kids kept them together for some many years, with the actress quick to describe her ex as “an amazing dad. “I’ve been sad about it, of course I have,” she admitted. “But we had two lovely children together. But they’re all grown up, living their own lives now. Now, it’s me and Dolly the dog. [But] I’m in a really good place. Work’s good.”

Journalist Jane Moore said her husband was still her ‘best friend’ as she announced their separation live on the ITV lunchtime show in 2022.

The panellist, 62, married her husband Gary Farrow in 2002 and the two are parents to daughters Ellie and Grace. Jane is also step-mother to Gary’s elder daughter Lauren.

Jane said the pair decided to split in 2021, but held off proceedings after Gary broke his leg. She added that they had decided to stay together for one last Christmas and would officially move on in the new year. Speaking on the ITV show, Jane revealed: “So Gary and I are separating. But it’s weird that it’s out there [in public] because we’ve been processing it for about a year.

“We’re both quite private people. We had discussed it last year… it was going to happen last year. And then he fell and broke his leg and, no, I didn’t push him,” she joked.

Speaking about nursing her husband back to health, Jane concluded: “I have been sort of caring for him in that sense of the word. It’s enabled us to sort of segue to process it first of all, and to sort of segue nicely into a really good friendship.”

Other Loose Women stars to face marital crisis

PA Wire/Press Association Images)Coleen Nolan announced that she has split from husband Ray Fensome after 10 years of marriage in 2018. The star said she had fought “with every fibre of her being” to save the relationship.

Writing in her Daily Mirror column, Coleen said: “I wanted to tell you first as I can hardly sit here and keep dishing out advice if I’m not being totally straight about what is going on in my own life.

“There is too much dividing me and Ray. We can’t go back.”

She also spoke about the “hellish” 12 months of relationship difficulties the couple endured.

“The last 12 months have been pretty hellish. I’ve been honest on Loose Women for a while that Ray and I have been having problems and it’s all I thought about in the Big Brother house.”

    Andrea McLean

Andrea, 54, who joined Loose Women in 2007, split with her second husband, builder Steve Tom, in 2012. In a heart-rending interview, the former GMTV weather girl revealed to the Mirror: “Steve and I had grown apart and we both knew it. We’d tried so many times to make it work, but it was hopeless.”

She continued: “I had hoped we’d be together for ever, I insisted I wouldn’t make the mistakes I made in my first marriage and I wrote about how my heart would lift with love when I saw his name flash up on my phone. And I really meant it. I tried for a year to save our marriage. I tried so hard…”

Sadly, for Andrea, the topic of marriages breaking down was up for debate on her Loose Women show, as she admitted she struggled through it. Opening up about hosting the show, she said: “On my first Loose Women show of the New Year the topic was, ‘Why do marriages break down at Christmas.’ I just wanted to burst out crying, but somehow I got through.

“I’d kept my marriage problems to myself and only Sherrie Hewson saw through my brave face. But I’ve explained everything now and I know the ladies will all be there for me.”

Eamonn Holmes seen enjoying meal with presenter Hayley Sparkes after Ruth Langsford split

Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford and GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes shocked fans when their split was announced last month

Eamonn Holmes distracted himself from his split from Ruth Langsford by enjoying an afternoon tea with presenter Hayley Sparkes.

The 64-year-old and Loose Women panellist Ruth, also 64, sent shockwaves through the showbiz industry when they revealed they were calling time on their 14-year marriage and heading for divorce. Ruth hadn’t publicly commented on the split but Eamonn thanked fans for their support while presenting on GB News.

At the time, he said: “So here we are on this Tuesday morning and a lot of politics. Just before we move on I would just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated.” Ruth, however, simply shared small glimpses into her life on social media with fans.

On Monday, presenter Hayley took to her Instagram page to share snaps from her afternoon tea with Eamonn as they filmed a segment for travel agency Not Just Travel at the Down Hall Hotel in Bishop’s Stortford. In one photo, the duo sat side by side as they posed for the camera.

“What a great start to the week- filming at the stunning Down Hall Hotel and Spa for Not Just Travel,” the presenter captioned the carousel of photos. “Thank you so much to the lovely team at Down Hall for looking after all of us so well and for the delicious afternoon tea!”

While the separation left many fans in shock, it came as no surprise for Ruth and Eamonn’s pals. According to another source, tensions within Ruth and Eamonn’s marriage emerged following their brutal axe from This Morning and the pair were leading “separate lives” for two years before making the decision to call it quits.

“Eamonn and Ruth’s relationship changed when they left This Morning. They started moving in different directions in their careers and their priorities started to change”, the insider said. “Eamonn was desperate to return to Belfast, which he thinks of as home, but Ruth would never move. It became a bone of contention.”

“As her ITV career continued, Eamonn went down another path and they became ships in the night. For the past two years, they had led separate lives, professionally and personally.”

Loose Women descends into chaos as two panellists swear live on air

Loose Women descended into chaos as both Janet Street-Porter and Kaye Adams ended up dropping swear words while live on air as their co-stars were left stunned

The Loose Women panel descended into chaos as Janet Street-Porter and Kaye Adams both accidently swore live on air.

The ITV daytime show returned with Kaye as host and Denise Welch, Brenda Edwards and Janet on the panel. They kicked off the programme by talking about modern slang and abbreviations. Kaye reeled off modern terms such as Platty Joobs for the Platinum Jubilee and Gen Elec for the general election.

The four stars were not impressed with the new words as they started to share old slang and terms, which they argued were better and made more sense. However, at the end of the debate Janet cheekily asked: “Can I say t*ts up?” The audience erupted into laughter as a stern Kaye told her: “Janet, the answer to that you asked me a question and no.”

They then cut to an ad break but didn’t apologise for the swear word. As they returned from the break, they discussed Brenda’s fashion choices as she revealed she is a fan of wearing a jumpsuit. She was tasked with wearing a dress as she shared her reasons for why she doesn’t like wearing them.

Yet her panellists didn’t like her reasons for not liking her knees as Kaye urged her to give a dress a go. She got so passionate, she said: “Well, I mean lets see these b****y…” Kaye managed to stop herself at the end of the word as she gasped at what she just said. Brenda quipped: “Everybody is naughty on this panel today, you lot are naughty.”

Denise pointed out: “It’s half term Kaye Adams.” Kaye said: “Can I apologise for the language I am sorry for any offence that has been caused.” Viewers were confused at her apology as some didn’t think it was a swear word. One said: “Why did Kaye apologise for the word b***dy? That’s not a bad word #loosewomen.” Another added: “#loosewomen B****y isn’t really a swear word, for goodness sake.” Someone else commented: “lol Kaye #loosewomen.”

Just last week Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha swore live on air. The hit ITV chat show celebrated the 40th anniversary of Cilla Black’s hit show, Surprise Surprise, by giving the panel their own surprises. Nadia’s surprise was when she spoke about her friendship group before they appeared live in the studio.

Nadia was left in tears over the surprise before dropping a hilarious swear word, where she had to apologise for the blunder. Recalling how they met and their friendship, Nadia then revealed her nickname for one of her friends as she said: “It’s so weird the way you keep calling her Helen because we only call her t**s!” This resulted in loud gasps in the studio as Nadia suddenly realised her error as she covered her mouth in shock while her amused friends added: “You can’t say that, you’re going to be in trouble!” as they all apologised.

Ruth Langsford ‘angry’ after Eamonn Holmes ‘consoled’ by blonde divorcee after split

The couple were seen as the most solid in showbiz, but the fallout continues after the abrupt announcement of Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes’ imminent divorce

Ruth Langsford is ‘angry’ after finding out soon-to-be ex husband Eamonn Holmes has been consoled by a mystery blonde friend, who he has lavished with expensive gifts.

The couple, both 64, have revealed they are splitting up after 27 years together, and almost 15 years of marriage, as confirmed by their reps following much speculation. The Loose Women star and her Northern Irish husband hadn’t been pictured together for months, with fans becoming concerned about the status of the couple’s relationship. With reports of explosive arguments and Eamonn’s health conditions “testing” the whole family, it seems a split was on the cards for a while.

But now Eamonn has moved out of the family home, it seems he’s been getting closer to a blonde woman in her 40s, who he met after she commented on one of his Twitter posts. Her name hasn’t yet been revealed, but the woman reportedly works for a charity that Eamonn has endorsed, and even helped to host an event for free.

A source told The Sun on Sunday : “Ruth was obviously aware that her marriage was crumbling, but as details emerge, her upset has turned to anger. Eamonn’s friend is bowled over by being lavished with attention and kindness from him.”

The woman in question is said to be a relationship counsellor who deals with “separation and divorce”, and the pair have allegedly become closer friends over the last 12 months.

The insider added: “She works for a charity Eamonn is involved with from time to time.”

Ruth was said to be unaware of their blossoming friendship, with Eamonn going on a trip to a safari park with her, as well as treating her to a Center Parcs visit, a Beyonce concert and even tickets to see Manchester United at Old Trafford – Eamonn’s beloved football team.

The Mirror has reached out to Eamonn and Ruth’s reps for comment.

While Eamonn has been open about the split, Ruth seems to be avoiding the drama around her personal life. But former Gladiators presenter Ulrika Jonsson has spoken out in support of Ruth, saying Eamonn is “a leading member of the Grumpy Old Men’s Club”, while still saying how she liked him “a lot.”

Ulrika said those who have branded her friend “Ruthless” for leaving Eamonn at a low point, due to his ongoing health struggles, are wrong. Ulrika wrote: “This is baffling to me. Let’s face it, Eamonn, 64, has become a leading member of the Grumpy Old Men’s club over the years and he’s a proper curmudgeon.”

Loose Women’s Sherrie Hewson ‘battered and bruised’ after falling for ‘toyboy love rat’

Sherrie Hewson, who played Joyce Temple-Savage in ITV’s Benidorm, has had a tough time with love after her 22-year marriage broke down and she was then left devastated by a ‘toyboy love rat’

Benidorm star Sherrie Hewson thought she had found her forever love with a man 20 years her junior, but it turned out he was just another love rat.

Sherrie Hewson, who is famed for her role as Joyce Temple-Savage in the hit ITV sitcom, had previously been married to Ken Boyd for 22 years before discovering his infidelity. Devastated by Ken’s betrayal after he left her for another woman, Sherrie declared: “I want to do without men.”

However, Loose Women star Sherrie’s stance on men changed when she met Richard, a property developer 12 years younger than her, who reignited her youthful spirit. In a 2012 interview with The Mirror, Sherrie gushed about their first encounter in a Leeds bar, saying: “I feel like a teenager again. It’s lovely, fun and a huge compliment that he likes me. He’s not a huge soap follower but he recognised my face.

He said ‘I bet you drink champagne.’ I thought that was cheeky, so I said ‘No, Newcastle Brown Ale, actually.’”. The couple shared many interests, including horse riding, holidays, and theatre visits. Despite her initial doubts about the age gap, Sherrie confessed: “I didn’t think there was any way he’d be interested in me. I thought he was too young and I was being silly. I was with a group of younger women and thought he fancied one of them.”

Things fizzled out with Richard, but Sherrie had already set her eyes on a younger ex-pat, Michael, who was 20 years her junior. Their paths crossed in Benidorm at a tapas bar during the filming of a sitcom, and it all went pear-shaped from there. By 2013, Sherrie discovered Michael’s true colours as she confessed to the Daily Mail: “It’s been a tough few months. I feel battered and bruised, physically and emotionally.”

She added: “I thought I’d found a man I could fall in love with but he was a liar and a cheat. I’m not sure my disastrous love life can ever be mended.” She noticed that the staff at the restaurant, where she had become a regular, began acting oddly around her, hinting that something was amiss. Sherrie recounted: “Sometimes when I stopped by, Michael wasn’t there. One of them would ring him and he’d come rushing over. I knew something was wrong, so one day I confronted him.”

The actress revealed: “He didn’t try to lie. He said he had a wife and two kids further along the coast but that he spent very little time there and they had grown apart. As soon as I heard ‘wife’, that was it. I’m not saying I’ve given up totally but it’s going to be a long time before anyone will convince me to try dating again.”

Loose Women stars issue major plea to Melania Trump after Donald’s criminal conviction

The Loose Women stars have pleaded with Melania Trump to leave her husband, disgraced former President Donald, after he was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records

Loose Women’s Denise Welch has issued a plea to Donald Trump’s wife, Melania.

It comes after the disgraced former President was found guilty of all 34 counts of falsifying business records over a hush money payment to adult actress Stormy Daniels. Trump, who is hoping to run for the American office again, was found guilty last week following a five-week trial.

He is currently preparing for his sentencing taking place on July 11 where he can face up to four years behind bars. However, former The Apprentice star Donald, 77, is expected to appeal the decision after he became the first former President to be convicted after prosecutors claimed he tried to “corrupt” the 2016 election by hiding a $130,000 payment to his lawyer Michael Cohen to be passed to Stormy.

Following the Mirror’s exclusive chat with former adult entertainer Stormy, who urged Melanie to walk away from Donald and their marriage, the Loose Women have now spoken out. Denise, 66, said: “Yes,” when asked if Melanie should dump Trump.

“But I honestly think, as with the people who vote for him, he could literally do anything to anybody and those people loyal to him will still be there. I would imagine, she would have left him before. You just have to look at him and realise she would have left him.

“I honestly think that there is some kind of contractual agreement there because, listen, I’ve been in relationships where I know people have said ‘You should leave’, you have to find your own to leave. I just can’t imagine what it must be like to be married to someone who is under the spotlight for all of these deeds.”

But Denise’s subtle digs didn’t stop at Trump as she commented: “At the same time, you couldn’t pay me to be Jill Biden either, so it’s not just Donald Trump. No, I don’t think she will leave at this point, I don’t think she will leave until this presidential race is over, I think that if he wins, she will stay, if he loses, that’s a different topic. But I would imagine there’s a contract.”

Meanwhile, Brenda Edwards quipped: “I don’t think I’d be married to him in the first place.” She added: “She’s got beautiful eyes but she’s always got sunglasses on? What’s that hiding? Sorrow?” Denise added: “What is she getting out of this? Especially if she has to sleep with him!”

Speaking to the Mirror over the weekend, Stormy said: “I don’t know what their agreement may or may not be, but Melania needs to leave him. Not because of what he did with me or other women but because he is a convicted felon. It’s been proven he is abusive; he was found liable for sexual assault and tax fraud and is now a criminal. He’s neither Teflon Don nor Teflon Con anymore.”

ITV shut down claims stars are ‘fearing cuts as ratings continue to plunge’

Some of ITV’s biggest daytime stars – working across Good Morning Britain, Loose Women and This Morning – were said to be worried that their jobs could be on the line as the network continues to suffer a dramatic decrease in viewing figures

ITV’s biggest names were reported to be concerned about the future of their jobs.

It comes as the network’s slump in viewing figures continues to drop on shows such as Good Morning Britain, Loose Women and This Morning. Sources claim that several of the big names in the network are due to have their contracts reviewed in the upcoming months.

Meanwhile, Good Morning Britain is believed to be undergoing a huge revamp in a bid to draw in more viewers. It’s claimed that the panel of Loose Women could also be at risk as ITV seeks to save cash as well as backroom job positions.

Sources claim that editors at ITV are frequently sending staff “heat map” bulletins, showing where they have lost viewers at home. They went on to add that the contracts for on-screen staff are often reviewed in August or September with several members of the on-screen talent being warned of cuts.

“A few of the Loose Women panel are worried too, as so many new faces have been brought in and some have worked better than others,” a source told The Sun. The source went on to state that the likes of This Morning’s Dermot O’Leary and Good Morning Britain’s Adil Ray are on year-long contracts so “theoretically most likely to be in the firing line.”

They added: “Dermot polls really well with viewers and absolutely no one wants him to go anywhere, so he’ll be safe. A few of the Loose Women panel are worried too, as so many new faces have been brought in and some have worked better than others.” The source went on to describe Good Morning Britain, ITV’s flagship news programme as “pretty frenetic”.

However, a spokesperson for ITV told the Mirror: “This isn’t true. ITV’s Daytime shows have never had a better connection with viewers reaching 7.5 million weekly. They are amongst the most popular on ITVX and reach millions more across digital platforms. Furthermore, we are very proud of our teams, both on and off screen, who produce seven and half hours of brilliant live content every weekday.”

ITV recently announced that 200 jobs are to be cut in a bid to save £50million per year. Those working on the likes of This Morning and Good Morning Britain have also had their salaries frozen according to the outlet. It’s believed that Cat Deeley and Dermot O’Leary have a salary of a whopping £550,000 after taking over from Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

Meanwhile, Susanna Reid is said to be on an eye-watering £1.1 million per year contract. The drop in ratings is said to have triggered bosses to call Town Hall meetings with staff across the programmes. A spokesperson for ITV said: “Town hall meetings happen frequently for teams to keep up to date with company news and also serve as an opportunity for staff to have questions answered.

“The latest one was to celebrate the success of Lorraine Kelly receiving a BAFTA Special Recognition Award and the two BAFTA nominations for Daytime last weekend. It was also a transparent portrayal of what is currently happening across the industry.”

Is Loose Women on this Thursday? ITV schedule update as Euros 2024 shake-up continues

Daytime TV was shaken up over on ITV this week as the broadcaster scrapped Loose Women in favour of its Lunchtime News and the Euros 2024. But when will the talk show return?

ITV is sticking to major schedule changes this Thursday as Loose Women will not be returning to our screens before some time has passed.

On Wednesday, June 19, viewers at home were surprised when they were reminded that the daytime talk show would not be airing during its usual 12.30pm slot, after Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard’s This Morning.

While they may have hoped for a reprieve, this Thursday’s schedule (June 20) will be no different as the Loose Women panel will not return to our screens.

Once again, the program will be replaced by ITV’s Lunchtime News and London News after This Morning. Viewers will then be able to catch up with all the Euros 2024 coverage from 1pm.

This Thursday, the Three Lions will be back on the field in Germany as they go head to head against Denmark from 5pm. Later on, Spain will then confront Italy, the defending champions after their victory at the Euros 2021, from 8pm.

However, viewers won’t have to wait long before the Loose Women stars head back to our screens as the show is due to reprise its usual slot this Friday (June 21), airing at 12.30pm, before being followed ITV’s live coverage of the Royal Ascot, which has also been included into the TV landscape in recent days.

Changes have also affected both the BBC and ITV’s soap schedule. While EastEnders has moved over to BBC Two, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have been subjected to frequent cancellations, leaving fans to rage over on X, otherwise known as Twitter.

Soap fans eager to take a trip to the Yorkshire Dales following Wednesday’s action-packed instalment will need to wait until Friday to get their fix as they will go without their hour-long episode this Thursday. Both Emmerdale and Coronation Street will be aired during their usual 7.30pm and 8pm slots on Friday.

Elsewhere, after Jay Blades decided to take some time away from filming due to the breakdown of his marriage and a family tragedy off-screen, BBC One watchers were concerned to find out that The Repair Shop would not be aired.

The 13th series of the renovation program began in early April, 2024, but was abruptly interrupted to make way for the Euros 2024 coverage, sparking massive concern among TV fans.

Luckily, presenter Jay was recently spotted filming new scenes of the show in Bournemouth, hinting that his return is only a matter of time and fans will be able to catch up with the program on Tuesday, June 25, but change could still be ahead as the football tournament is due to end on July 14, 2024.
