While Meghan all but underplayed her intense emotions in the tell-all interview with Oprah, Prince Harry let his anger show, according to body language expert Judi James

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have finally had their say about their decision to leave the Royal family.

Sunday night’s US screening of the tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey included multiple jaw-dropping revelations – from allegations of racism within the Royal family to the news that Prince Charles no longer takes Harry’s calls.

And beneath the already shocking words, the pair’s emotions ran high, with body language expert Judi James noting the intimate gestures that expose Meghan’s inner pain.

Judi tells the Mirror: “Meghan’s head shook from side to side in a gesture of disbelief as she spoke and her eyes either closed in cut-off rituals at her painful memories or performed an eye-stutter that suggested suppressed anger.

“She cried once when Oprah asked her about ‘suicidal thoughts’ but overall she under-played her emotions apart from a few auto-contact gestures when she touched her face, some hand-chop baton gestures that made the split from the Firm look inevitable, and some moments when she stretched one hand out in an imploring hand ritual that suggests a desire for empathy and agreement or understanding.”

But while Meghan rather underplayed her emotions as she relived clearly traumatic events, her husband was not so restrained.

Judi describes how Harry came forward to take the lead after joining Meghan’s side.

She says: “If the hors d’oevres trailers were shocking then this main course story of fake smiles hiding deep tragedy behind the scenes was utterly jaw-dropping.

“Meghan’s delivery was compelling but it was Harry whose body language was the biggest surprise.

“With Meghan comparing herself to the little mermaid who married her prince but lost her voice in the process, Harry did step up from the role of surrendered-looking male that we saw in the trailers to a much more dominant, body language-eloquent man keen to ensure what they described as his wife’s survival.”

Having interviewed a solo Meghan first, Oprah then invited Harry to join the conversaion.

Says Judi: “Harry’s body language suggested a range of very complex emotions and when he first arrived we saw Meghan reach out to clasp his hand in a gesture of protective reassurance.

“Their hand-clasps were intense throughout, often involving tightly meshed fingers and with either Harry or Meghan rubbing one another’s hand with a thumb as they spoke to signal constant, mutual, reassurance, unity and affection.

“When their clasp broke Harry often rubbed his wedding ring in what looked like a bid to keep the sense of contact with his wife.”

Harry did not try to hide his feelings, says Judi.

“Harry was emphatic rather than evasive. His anger looked visible at several moments and there was a massive lack of filter when he spoke about his father.

“Cut off financially and with his contact to his father apparently also cut off, this newly-voiced rift sounded surprisingly comprehensive. Harry’s long pause before answering said more than his words and when he spoke his leg rocked, he shook his head and he sucked his lips in, looking both angry and full of regret.

“The lip-sucking might also have been an attempt to stop himself crying as his eyes did seem to redden at this point.”

While his anger about the situation seemed clear, Harry’s feelings towards some family members remained warm.

“Harry’s voice did soften when he spoke about the Queen and then William though and although he raised both hands to clap them together then pull them apart in a gesture that suggested friction and separation from William, his smile and small laugh were congruent with his use of the word ‘love’, suggesting that was one rift that could possibly be healed.”

But in an explosive interview with Oprah aired on CBS overnight, the 39-year-old said she had been told she would not be able to seek help as it “wouldn’t be good for the institution.”

Breaking down in tears, pregnant Meghan said: “I just didn’t see a solution.

“I didn’t want to be alive anymore.”

And she said when she reached out for help with the Palace’s Human Resources team, she was told because she was not a paid employee, she could not be supported.

One night, while suffering suicidal thoughts, Meghan claimed that she forced herself to go to an event with Harry, 36, – because she felt she couldn’t be left alone, for fear of what she might do.

And she said while the lights were down during the Cirque du Soleil premiere at the Royal Albert Hall in January 2019, she was “weeping” while clutching Harry’s hand until his knuckles were white.

The Duchess of Sussex, who was six months pregnant at the time, said she would cry while the lights were down in the royal box before she would compose herself for the cameras and smile during the intervals.

Meghan revealed: “I was ashamed to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry because of how much loss he suffered.

“But I knew that if I didn’t say it I would do it – because I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.

“I didn’t want to be alive anymore. That was a very clear and real and frightening, constant thought.

“And I remember, I remember how he just cradled me.”

She later said Harry, 36, “saved” her by ultimately quitting the Royal Family.

In the candid chat, Meghan said: “I think he saved all of us.

“He ultimately called it – we’ve got to find a way for us, for Archie and you made a decision that certainly saved my life and saved all of us.

“You need to want to be saved.”

And Harry admitted he would not have quit the Firm without Meghan’s help saying: “I wouldn’t have been able to because I myself was trapped as well.”

Harry added: “I didn’t see a way out. I was trapped within the system, just like the rest of my family are.

“My father and my brother – they are trapped. They don’t get to leave and I have huge compassion for that.”

And he said he believed his mother Princess Diana would have been “angry” with how the situation panned out.

He said: “Ultimately, all she would ever want is for us to be happy.”

He said his family was now surviving on money that had been left by his mother, saying she might have “seen it coming”.

And Harry later added he also went to a “dark place” – revealing he would return home to Meghan crying as she breastfed Archie at their home.

Meghan also said she remembered one conversation about the pressures she was under with someone in the institution who told her “yes it’s terrible” – but that nothing had been done.

And she revealed that it was in fact one of Princess Diana’s friends that she reached out to, adding: “who else could understand what it’s actually like on the inside.”

It comes after Meghan revealed there were “concerns and conversations” about “how dark” her son Archie’s skin would be when he was born.

The Duchess of Sussex said there had been conversations with herself and Prince Harry about their unborn son and what colour his skin would be – and “what that would mean or look like”.

A stunned Winfrey asked “who is having that conversation?”

Meghan replied she would not reveal the identity, saying: “I think that would be very damaging to them”.

And the couple said they had been concerned their son would not receive security or protection as he had not been given a prince title.

Meghan explained said: “All the grandeur around this stuff is not really important to me.

“But in those months when I was pregnant, all around the same time: we have in tandem he won’t be given security, a title and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

Asked whether there were concerns that her child would be “too brown” and that would be a problem, Meghan said: “If that is the assumption you are making, that is a pretty safe one.”

And when asked her advice for those thinking of buying a house in the UK, the 52 year old presenter said at the time: “I would stop the building of detached houses. They’re not environmentally practical.”

She went on to tell Daily Mail Weekend magazine: “They don’t make the best use of the sites. They have smaller gardens, there’s less community. That gap between the houses is a waste of space.” And it was as though Phil knew her comments would cause outrage as he responded saying: “You have to be brave,” to which Kirstie replied: “You have to tell the truth.”

One person who was at the forefront of those fuming was Janet Street-Porter, who is known for voicing her opinion. She took to X, formerly known as Twitter and hit back at Kirstie’s comments, sparking a feud. She wrote: “Kirstie Allsopp says detached houses should be banned because they are not ‘environmentally practical’ and lead to loss of community feeling…Posh people always seem to know what’s best for the rest of us, don’t they?”

And Janet’s blunt response sparked a flurry of comments on social media. Screenwriter Jonathan Harvey also took to the social media platform and penned: “Like she’s never lived in one.” Another person said: “So I take it she lived in a semi-detached then? I think not.”

“What a privileged life having no experience of bad neighbours and the stress caused by being unable to escape their noise day in day out and constant disrupted sleep,” wrote a third. Noticing a rise in discontent, Kirstie felt forced to address her views on detached homes on social media, in the hope of avoiding confusion.

She wrote: “It’s not the fact that they are detached it’s the quality of them. Better to build semis or terraced houses with bigger gardens, better heat and sound insulation and, vitally, more space inside then pretend those tiny little gaps means they are ‘detached’ and somehow better.” (sic)

In another tweet, she added: “If anyone wants to know my views on the appalling quality of some of today’s so called ‘detached’ new build housing find my original tweets on the matter.” Kirstie then said that she does in fact live in a huge detached house in Devon but also lives in a block of flats in London.

She explained: “Every working day I get to help people, and see this country and learn about real lives and real issues. I care deeply about the quality of what we build & where we expect people to live. Anyone who can’t see that just doesn’t want to, but that’s their problem not mine. Thank you to all the folk that do.”

There was anarchy in the Loose Women studio when Ruth Langsford suddenly lost control of the suggestive vibrating gadget she was waving around.

The panel were left screaming when suddenly the mystery appliance spun off and crashed against the desk, leaving co stars Coleen Nolan, Janet Street-Porter and Linda Robson in stitches. Ruth was teasing them demanding they guess what the item was for before flicking the on switch.

Typically, there were a number of racy hints dropped by the trio as they stopped short of saying exactly what was on their minds. Twirling it in the air, the former This Morning host introduced the Guess Ruth’s Gadget segment and there were plenty of smutty suggestions put forward before all was revealed.

Ruth said: “This gadget and I have become inseparable over Christmas. I have found it very satisfying.” Linda cheekily chimed it: “Would you say it’s a lady’s friend?” before Janet said: “It looks a little gynaecological to me.” Ruth then confirmed the contraption goes at different speeds as it started to move faster and faster.

She was asked what her favourite speed was by Coleen before test driving it – and that’s when things got chaotic as the host lost control of the gadget. The women screamed and later returned to guessing exactly what it was as they read out some social media guesses. Ruth did a demo and this time it was problem free, whipping out a bowl of sauce and revealing the item is in fact a liquid stirrer. But there were some complaints from Coleen, who said there was splats all over the desk.

On Sunday, Ruth took to her Instagram to give her followers an update after her Christmas break. Gearing up for her return to work, Ruth admitted she’d been “trying to get back to where she was before Christmas”. Ruth posted her update as she made her dinner and prepared her lunch for Loose Women the next day.

The 63-year-old appeared without makeup and kept her hair back in a loose bun. She wished her fans a happy new year and revealed she had been busy in the kitchen all day. Ruth said: “Hello all. Back in the kitchen, Sunday, a bit of a cook up today. No makeup, hair scraped up.

Smooth FM DJ Kate has received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow celebrities since announcing her husband’s death, with many praising the mum-of-two for documenting Derek’s battle through two ITV documentaries over the last three years, shedding light on the struggles of long Covid victims.

Hopkins, who was previously banned from Twitter (X) in 2020 but has since been reinstated by new owner Elon Musk, has taken a different approach to the news of someone’s death – instead opting to mock and taunt Derek’s widow and imply she will soon be taking on work related to her husband’s death.

Despite some Twitter users liking and retweeting Hopkins’ distasteful video, many have reported it to Twitter and criticised the tasteless skit. “So, that vile and sickening witch Katie Hopkins is back, showing up on my timeline, mocking and laughing at Kate Garraway and recently deceased husband Derek,” one person wrote over the weekend. “She is so grotesque to post that video and I urge you all to report it. She can’t get away with it.”

In the controversial video, Hopkins was seen taking sips of red wine while cruelly mimicking Kate, laughing as she suggested ITV would give her a TV special and a book deal to talk about Derek’s sad passing. The right-wing grifter faced a backlash after posting the video on TikTok and Twitter, but responding to some of her critics on Saturday, Hopkins showed no regret for her actions.

Responding to a Twitter user who told her: “Weaponising someone’s tragic death for your grift. Stay classy,” Hopkins – who was allowed back on Twitter (X) by Elon Musk after he bought the site – wrote: “Literally what Garraway has been doing for two years. Stay chubby. Avoid reading about #ExcessDeaths.”

After being called a “disgraceful person” on Twitter, the former businesswoman, Hopkins, said: “I have a lot of time for the Church of the Forgiving Eagle. I regularly attend the Chapel of the Hungry Beaver.” When someone told her she went too far making fun of Kate, Hopkins answered: “There is. And what a marvellous line … many assume their line should dictate the line of others. Strangely lefty ‘comedians’ don’t have to worry about a line…”

Kate announced the sad news about her husband Derek’s death on Instagram on 5th January, telling her followers: “I’m sad to have to tell you all that my darling husband Derek has passed away. As some of you may know he has been critically ill following a cardiac arrest in early December which, because of the damage inflicted by Covid in March 2020, led to further complications.”

“Derek was surrounded by his family in his final days and I was by his side holding his hand throughout the last long hours and when he passed. I have so much more to say, and of course I will do so in due course, but for now I just want to thank all the medical teams who fought so hard to save him and to make his final moments as comfortable and dignified as possible. Loose Women legend Kaye Adams has revealed that she was rushed to A&E after suffering a ‘traumatic’ health scare.

The popular ITV star, 61, took to social media to reveal she was left ‘terrified’ that something was really wrong after she suddenly lost all hearing in her right ear ‘minutes’ before she went live on on air on Friday’s instalment of Loose Women

Explaing her health scare on Instagram, Kaye said: “I was absolutely terrified, I thought, ‘Oh my god, what has gone wrong? On Friday when I was doing Loose Women, minutes before we went in air, my right ear just went dead. I put my earpiece in, there was no sound I couldn’t hear a thing.”

Kaye pushed through the show, not mentioning her health scare to viewers but became increasingly worried when she got home to Glasgow and her hearing still had not returned.

The Loose Women star explained that as she became more concerned, she started to google her symptoms after losing all hearing in one ear so suddenly. Kaye went to sleep but woke up the next morning and went straight to the hospital where she was looked after by the ‘dedicated’ nurses.

 

Kaye explained she was then sent for an audiogram at a nearby Boots hearing centre. However, she was left utterly mortified when she discovered the reason behind her sudden hearing loss. The TV star revealed that the audiologist pulled out a huge lump of wax, which was affecting her hearing.

“I mean I am embarrassed to say this because, honestly, my head was going to some terrible terrible tumour, I am very melodramatic,” Kaye told her followers. “Paula pulled out the biggest bit of wax you have ever seen.”

Thankfully, the TV star has nothing to worry about, and her hearing came back immediately after undergoing to process.

Earlier this week, Linda appeared to share some insight into the breakdown of her marriage during one of the debates on the show. Ruth Langsford, Olivia Attwood, Brenda Edwards and Linda were discussing the news that Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of skin cancer, less than a year after her breast cancer diagnosis.

The panel were speaking about getting checked for moles when Linda revealed that she’d gone with her eldest daughter Lauren, 40, who she shares with ex-partner Tony Tyler, to have some checked. Hitting out at her ex-husband, Linda quipped: “I think if anything changed on my body, my husband wouldn’t notice, he wouldn’t notice if I was on fire.”

An insider told the Express, “Charles really does want to build a better relationship with Archie and Lili and spend quality time with them. So it’s possible that the Sussexes might go alone at the end of the summer just before the King returns to London, but it’s highly unlikely given the current tensions.”

It’s still up in the air if the Duke and Duchess will swing by Balmoral, a special time for Royals to hang out in Scotland’s peaceful scenery and discuss life and future. But, to keep in touch with Archie and Lilibet, Charles might lean more on tech than old-school ways. The idea is to stay connected via “ Skype calls so that he doesn’t lose touch with what they’re getting up to.”

But, it looks like Harry and Meghan, who’ve only brought their kids to the UK once since they moved to the US in 2020—that was during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2021—might not be coming to the family event.

Loose Women star Kaye Adams has shared the terrifying moment she had a sudden health emergency just before she went live on air as she ended up in A&E

Loose Women’s Kaye Adams has revealed how she was rushed to A&E after an emergency on the show.

The TV presenter, 61, has recalled the terrifying moment as she appeared on the ITV panel show a week on from the incident. She was joined alongside Kelly Holmes, Judi Love and Nadia Sawalha to discuss the day’s topics. During the programme on Friday. Earlier this week Kaye revealed she suddenly lost all hearing in her right ear ‘minutes’ before she went live on on air.

During today’s show, Kaye opened up on the scary moment as she told viewers: “We showed you a clip of what happened to me last Friday just before we went on air. I just completely lost my hearing in my right ear.” A clip was then shown of Kaye struggling to hear the producers in her ear piece last week, where she said she could “hear nothing”.

After the clip had finished, she told the panel: “That’s what you call a brave face because behind that I was seriously panicking. I wear hearing aids which is fine and I manage quiet well. I have got this television ear piece and then I can hear you lot with hearing aids.” She joked: “I sometimes switch [them] off.” Kaye added: ” So to completely go deaf in this ear was terrifying.”

Kaye had taken to her social media earlier in the week where she informed her followers about the incident. She wrote: “I was absolutely terrified, I thought, ‘Oh my god, what has gone wrong? On Friday when I was doing Loose Women, minutes before we went in air, my right ear just went dead. I put my earpiece in, there was no sound I couldn’t hear a thing.”

She decided to push through the show, and didn’t mention her health scare to viewers. However, she became increasingly worried when she got home to Glasgow and her hearing still had not returned. The Loose Women star explained that as she became more concerned, she started to google her symptoms after losing all hearing in one ear so suddenly.

Kaye went to sleep but woke up the next morning and went straight to the hospital where she was looked after by the ‘dedicated’ nurses. S he was then sent for an audiogram at a nearby Boots hearing centre but was left utterly mortified when she discovered the reason behind her sudden hearing loss.

The TV star revealed that the audiologist pulled out a huge lump of wax, which was affecting her hearing. “I mean I am embarrassed to say this because, honestly, my head was going to some terrible terrible tumour, I am very melodramatic,” Kaye told her followers. “Paula pulled out the biggest bit of wax you have ever seen.”

BBC Radio Scotland has responded to complaints against its presenter Kaye Adams after she described former first minister Nicola Sturgeon as ‘not a human being’

Loose Women star Kaye Adams has lashed out at former Scottish First Minster Nicola Sturgeon.

Kaye, 61, labelled the former SNP leader and first minister as “not a human being” during a chat about the UK Covid Inquiry on her BBC Radio Scotland show, Mornings with Kaye Adams. Mother-of-two Kaye hit out at the politician over her failure to keep WhatsApp messages dating back to the time of the pandemic -even though most of her communications have been submitted by her recipients.

Kaye’s comments led to the BBC suffering a backlash online, with senior SNP MP Pete Wishart describing them as “absolutely shocking”. He declared on X (formerly Twitter): “I hope @BBCScotland think about an apology, or at least some sort of correction, for this.”

Defending Sturgeon at the time on the show, meanwhile, The National’s Kelly Given explained: “Nicola Sturgeon has submitted evidence to this inquiry, she’s submitted her informal messaging, and I think we need to take that at face value, she’s done that. Why are we holding these people to account as if they’re not human beings? Nicola Sturgeon got a new phone or deleted her messages or whatever…”

Kaye then interjected with her controversial remark: “Because in this instance they’re not human beings, they’re politicians.” Kelly replied: “Politicians are human beings.”

The BBC has since taken the stance that it has no case to answer for, however, with regards to complaints. A spokesperson for the broadcaster explained: “This comment was made as part of a wider discussion on the Covid inquiry and in particular holding politicians to account for decisions made during this time. Taking the comment out of context in this way is not a fair reflection of the discussion throughout the morning.

“Of course, our presenters don’t believe politicians aren’t human, the point being made was that they also hold elected office, as was completely clear to anyone listening to the full programme, as opposed to a short clip of it.”

Earlier this week Kaye revealed she had been rushed to A&E after suffering a “traumatic” health scare. Kaye said she was left “terrified” that something was seriously wrong after she suddenly lost all hearing in her right ear “minutes” before she went live on air for Friday’s instalment of Loose Women.

Describing her ordeal on Instagram, Kaye wrote: “I was absolutely terrified, I thought, ‘Oh my god, what has gone wrong?’ On Friday when I was doing Loose Women, minutes before we went in air, my right ear just went dead. I put my earpiece in, there was no sound I couldn’t hear a thing.”

After getting through the show without mentioning the problem she returned to her Glasgow home where she researched her symptoms. With no sign of improvement the next day, she was sent for an audiogram that left her mortified by its findings and cause of the problem – a huge lump of earwax. “I mean I am embarrassed to say this because, honestly, my head was going to some terrible terrible tumour, I am very melodramatic,” Kaye told her followers. “Paula pulled out the biggest bit of wax you have ever seen.”
