Jamelia’s real life – Loose Women backlash, mystery husband, MOBO wins and ‘miracle baby’

Icon Jamelia won a whopping four MOBO Awards. Not only is she a talented singer, she’s also a successful presenter, actress and a proud mother

Jamelia released her debut album, Drama, in 2000 – and the name couldn’t have been more apt.

The BRIT Award-nominated star has battled some controversies and heartbreaks in the years since she burst onto the scene with her single So High, before landing a top-three hit with Superstar, which went platinum. The 43-year-old singer has many legendary hits including See It In A Boy’s Eyes, Money and Thank You.

All three tracks won her four MOBO Awards. In 2004, she won Best British Female, Best Single for Thank You and Best Video for See It In A Boy’s Eyes. She also took home the award for Best Video for Money in 2000. Along with a successful music career, she landed many modelling contracts with the likes of BMW, Jaguar, Pretty Polly and Reebok.

At the height of her fame, Jamelia had her line of perfumes and hair products, performed for Nelson Mandela twice and was a regular on the catwalk for Naomi Campbell’s annual Fashion for Relief show.

In 2015, she tried her hand at Strictly Come Dancing and was partnered up with professional dancer Tristan MacManus. Jamelia survived until week nine of the dance competition after landing in the bottom two with Peter Andre and his dance partner Janette Manrara.

Not only is she good at dancing, but she also starred in the BBC soap Doctors and in Richard Osman’s House of Games. Most recently, she joined the cast of Hollyoaks as Sharon Bailey. The multi-talented star also starred as Kate Williams in the miniseries Little Darlings. Last year also saw her appear on Celebrity MasterChef.

When she’s not busy with work, she’s busy with her family. The star has four children including daughters Teja, 22, Tiani, 18, and True, six – who she once described as a ‘miracle baby’. Her water broke when she was only 23 weeks pregnant. She said at the time: “There are so many problems that come along with that happening. I was 100 per cent bed rest.”

Despite that, the star managed to last through to 36 weeks and gave birth to her little girl in December. “It was a really scary time for all of us,” she said. “They keep calling my daughter a miracle baby. Going through something like that really opens your eyes.” Teja’s father is Jamelia’s music manager ex Terry Wallen, who she says inspired her cutting break-up song Thank You, and Tiani’s dad is the singer’s ex-husband Darren Byfield, a footballer-turned-manager whom Jamelia was married to for a year in 2008.

After splitting from Walsall Wood manager Darren, Jamelia stayed single while devoting herself to raising her daughters. However, as they both approached university age and Jamelia faced an empty nest, she began dating again – and fell in love. True’s father is Jamelia’s mysterious husband whose identity she hasn’t revealed. He stole her heart in 2017 and the duo “ran away” and got married within months.

She announced she was pregnant with her fourth child in 2022. Jamelia gave birth to her fourth daughter, Jream, at 36 weeks through an emergency caesarean in October that same year.

Towards the end of the 2000s, Birmingham-born Jamelia slowly moved away from music into TV, becoming a judge on Move It Like Michael Jackson in 2009 and fronting powerful documentaries including The House That Made Me and Shame About Single Mums. She landed a regular slot on Loose Women but wasn’t invited back in 2017 after a backlash against her comments about plus-sized clothes.

Outrage ensued when the star said she didn’t think it was responsible for shops to stock clothes in larger sizes, claiming that it helped “facilitate people living an unhealthy lifestyle.”

She explained: “In the same way I don’t believe that a size zero should be available – it’s not a healthy size for an average woman to be. I don’t believe they [high street stores] should be providing clothes for below that range or above that range. Yes, have specialist shops, but you should feel uncomfortable if you are unhealthy… to be available in every High Street store, I don’t think that’s right.”

Speaking out about her departure from the show, Jamelia told the Birmingham Mail she hadn’t been “formerly sacked” but said she doubted she would be returning. “The show is going in a different direction at the moment and I don’t seem to be a part of that narrative,” she said.

Despite the uproar, Jamelia has stood by her comments, insisting she didn’t say anything different to what was being said by the rest of the panel and stating she felt the backlash was directed at her because of the colour of her skin.

She told Heart Online: “I’m not going to beat around the bush, I think when you are black and you are in the public eye and you are being vocal and speaking out on issues – you are not ordinarily allowed to have certain conversations.

“[But] it’s very important to be bold and brave, in particular as a mother of daughters, I want to teach them that they have to say what they think even if it affects them adversely. I don’t mind that it’s affected me financially because emotionally I feel as though I’m living in my truth.”

It wasn’t her only controversy as Jamelia angered people when she suggested people over the age of 75 should be stripped of their right to vote and shouldn’t have had a say in the Brexit referendum. “I just don’t think it’s fair that you have a vote when you’re not going to experience the consequences of that vote,” she said on The Jeremy Vine Show.

“And you’ve had 50-60 years of voting,” she added. Her comments led to accusations she was being “ageist” and “disrespectful”, but Jamelia didn’t comment further on the matter.

  • ITV Loose Women’s Charlene White weighs in on future of show after major stars quit

ITV Loose Women’s Charlene White weighs in on future of show after major stars quit

News presenter Charlene White joined the Loose Women line-up in 2021. Some major stars have quit the show recently and the show has been dogged by rumours of cast feuds for years.

Charlene White has addressed the future of Loose Women after years of backstage arguments and high profile stars quitting the show.

The 43-year-old newsreader joined the panel of the ITV daytime show in 2021 and is regularly seen guiding the conversation as the main host on the show. However, big stars including Lady Penny Lancaster, 52, actress Ayda Field, 44, and Carol McGiffin, 63, have sensationally quit the show in recent years.

And there have long been reports of bitter in-fighting between some of the panelists – with rumours saying many of the panelists don’t want to appear alongside 59-year-old Nadia Sawalha, and even 58-year-old Coleen Nolan herself hinting she only likes a few of her co-stars in a recent eyebrow raising interview.

But Charlene has defended Loose Women – which will celebrate 25 years on air this year. She says she likes the fact that the panel changes – and she things some of the new additions to the show will make it stronger.

Opening up to Women’s Own, the TV star said: “I’ve been there three years now, and I’ve loved it.” She admits she is thrilled to recently welcome Love Island’s Olivia Attwood and model Christine McGuinness to the panel.

And she is also glad that her new personal friend, Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver, has been added to the line up of rotating panelists. The pair bonded when they both took part in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2022. And Charlene has credited herself for bringing 60-year-old Sue into the Loose Women fold.

She said: “When we came out of the jungle a year ago, I said to Sue, ‘I think you will fly if you join our Loose Women panel,’ and look at her now. She’s on tomorrow as a panellist and she fills in every now and then, which is incredible.”

Looking to the future, Charlene predicts a bright future for the lunchtime show. She gushed: “I feel like I work with some of the best women in the business who I learn from every single day. And what’s amazing is, we’re always inserting people to our stable, which means we’re learning so much about each other, and they’re still learning about us. I think what we do is brilliant and I’m really proud of what we do every day.”

This week, however, Coleen Nolan hinted all is not well behind the scenes of the long-running show as she hinted there are only a few panelists she can stand to be around. She asked by Best Magazine if she was “great pals” with any of her co-stars, she tellingly answered: “Some are great work colleague friends and others, even if I left the show, I’d stay in touch with.”

  • Prince Harry will have to ‘apologise to Camilla to earn King Charles’ forgiveness’

Prince Harry will have to ‘apologise to Camilla to earn King Charles’ forgiveness’

Royal insider Ingrid Seward appeared on ITV’s Loose Women where she insisted that Prince Harry will have to ask for forgiveness in order to mend his relationship with King Charles

A Royal family expert and insider has said that Prince Harry will have to apologise to Queen Camilla in order to receive his Father’s forgiveness.

Appearing on Tuesday’s instalment of Loose Women, Royal insider Ingrid Seward shared her thoughts on Prince Harry’s complicated relationship with his father, King Charles, who has sadly been diagnosed with cancer.

Speaking on the panel this afternoon, Ingrid told Loose Women star Coleen Nolan that she thinks the King would ‘certainly like for there to be a reconciliation’ with his son who recently flew back to the UK to be by his father’s side after learning about his cancer battle.

However, Ingrid suggested that in order for them to fully mend their relationship, Prince Harry will have to issue a grovelling apology to King Charles’ wife following the revelations he made about her in his memoir titled Spare.

In Harry’s controversial book, he alleged Camilla, 76, had leaked stories about the Royal family to the media in a drive to transform her image. “I have complex feelings about gaining a step-parent who I thought had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar,” he penned.

Sharing her thoughts on Prince Harry and King Charles’ increasingly complicated relationship as father and son, ingrid said: “I think Harry’s father would like there to be some reconciliation, but I think that in order for that to happen, Harry has to apologise to his step-mother. He has to apologise to Camilla once and for all.

“She’s the sort of woman that wouldn’t want to ask for it, but I think an apology might really be necessary at this stage,” she added.

After Harry’s fleeting visit to the UK, where he is believed to have spent 30 minutes with his father before flying back to his wife Meghan Markle in the US, the Royal expert believes that Camilla was the driving force behind getting Harry back on British soil.

“I do believe she would have been the one to invite him back to spend time with his father,” she suggested. “People must understand that Harry has his own commitments but made it his priority to be with his ill father.”

The announcement, which revealed that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer, has come as a shock to many in Britain, largely because the 75-year-old monarch has generally enjoyed good health through the years.

Palace officials have not specified what kind of cancer the King has, or how serious his condition is. It was only announced that the mass was discovered during the King’s recent hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate, but the type of cancer he has is not prostate cancer.

Charles — who came to the throne after his mother Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022 — has started a schedule of regular treatments and will postpone public-facing duties.

Olivia Attwood’s husband Bradley Dack has defended his controversial surgery comments as he was grilled on Wednesday’s Loose Women.

The footballer, 30, joined wife Olivia, 32, in the studio for a Valentine’s Day special, where chat got onto the former Love Island star’s recent documentary series The Price of Perfection, which sees Olivia meet everyday people who are going under the knife to achieve the “perfect” body.

In the documentary series, Bradley features, where Olivia asks: “Would you have looked twice at me when we met before Love Island if I had a flat chest, gap between my teeth, hair to here” with Bradley admitting: “No!”, leaving his shocked wife in hysterics.

On Wednesday’s Loose Women, Olivia’s co-stars grilled Bradley about the comment, who insisted the remark was made as a “tongue in cheek joke”, he said: “At least I’m being honest!

“You know what, the first time I met Liv, obviously I think you’ve got to have some sort of attraction to speak to that person. So I’m guessing if I didn’t find her attractive then we might not have had that first conversation to actually meet, I think that’s what I meant by saying that.”

Olivia and Bradley got married in 2023 after first meeting years ago. The two had dated before splitting, where Olivia went on Love Island in 2017, and rekindled their romance after the star’s time in the villa.

Bradley admitted when Olivia went on Love Island after their split: “I was gutted, absolutely gutted!” while Olivia admitted she needed to “spread her wings” after their breakup.

Bradley added: “I tried to stop her from going, I was there the night before she left!” and revealed that he called her after she appeared on the show, with Olivia, who didn’t have his number saved, “really surprised” to hear from him.

Since rekindling their romance, the couple have gone from strength-to-strength with the duo getting married last year in a romantic London ceremony. Bradley said there are loads of things that made him realise Olivia was “the one” and her sense of humour is what first attracted him.

Coleen Nolan says she’ll only wed Tinder boyfriend if he signs prenup – as she tells of divorce pain

Coleen Nolan has opened up about her romance with Michael Jones who she met on Tinder but while she’s excited about their future, there’s one thing stopping her from marrying him

Loose Women star Coleen Nolan has revealed she could marry partner Michael Jones – but only if he signs a prenup agreement.

The popular presenter and Mirror columnist, who was previously married to EastEnders actor Shane Richie and musician Ray Fensome, admitted she found them unromantic, but said she hated the financial wrangling so much during her divorces, that she would never put herself in that position again.

Coleen, 58, explained: “I think Michael would very much like to get married at some point. If it meant a lot to him, maybe I would, but I’d bloody make him sign a great big piece of paper before I did, because I’m not going through that again.

“I’ve looked into it. 100 per cent. It’s sorted from there and it’s a reference point; no-one thinks they’re going to split up.” Coleen, who was married to actor Shane – the father of her two sons, Shane Jr, 34, and Jake, 31 and secondly to musician Ray, father of her daughter Ciara, 21, who met supermarket logistics worker Michael three years on the Tinder dating app, after being single for four years. “I got married twice thinking both of them were for life,” she told Kaye Adams on her How to be 60 podcast.

“I never went into marriage thinking – what if it doesn’t work? And neither of them did in the end. It’s traumatic enough on an emotional level, but then when there are solicitors involved and you’re dividing up everything, what it comes down to is who owns what. How much have you got? Give him 50 per cent. Off you trot. It’s a horrible stage and I would like to have that stage worked out. That if this doesn’t work out – which I hope it will forever more – but if it doesn’t, then this is the situation that is in writing in a legal form.”

Coleen added: “I’ve always been against prenups, because I find them really unromantic and very much like you’re going into it going: ‘well, it probably won’t work, so sign this.’” But she told podcast host Kaye Adams that her 2018 divorce from Ray Fensome had made her wary. She said: “Hopefully it will work and we’ll never have to look at that piece of paper again, but what I went through on my last divorce I don’t ever want to go through again. Even though I didn’t hate Ray, there were times when I was going: ‘Oh my God, this is so unfair.’”

Prenuptial agreements are legal documents drawn up between a couple before their marriage, which outlines how their assets will be divided between them in the event of divorce. They are often popular with couples where one partner has more money than another and with people who are marrying later in life.

Coleen, who is currently touring the country with her solo show Naked said she has remained friends with her exes and that Ray is even playing guitar on her tour. But she told How to be 60 that her relationship with Michael had brought new-found stability to her life.

She said: “It’s a very different relationship and I actually feel grown-up for the first time in my life. I don’t feel like a silly teenager in a relationship. It’s a 100 per cent partnership. I live quite an unpredictable life as far as work and I just want to be peaceful in my personal life and he brings such a calmness to my crazy life. Nothing’s a drama. I’ve never had that and it’s a beautiful feeling.”

However, Coleen admitted she needed therapy before she would accept that the relationship could work. She told How to be 60: “I was so messed up that I actually finished with Michael three times. It was nothing to do with him. I went and had therapy, because I wasn’t used to being with somebody like that. I’d say: ‘I’m going to Tesco,’ and he’d say: ‘I’ll come with you,’ and I’d say: ‘why are you coming to the supermarket with me?’

Coleen sees herself growing old with Michael
Coleen is currently on her first ever solo tour

“I was pushing away everything I’d wanted in my life from a relationship because I wasn’t used to it.” Coleen revealed it was her sister Linda who persuaded her to go ahead with her tour, which sees her singing a string of hits from her days performing with her sisters in The Nolans, including Attention to Me, Don’t Make Waves and their biggest hit I’m in the Mood for Dancing.

She said: “I remember saying to Linda, I might do it next year or the year after and she said: ‘Please do it now, because there were things I was going to do and probably won’t now.’”

Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, which has since spread to her brain. Sister Bernie died from breast cancer in 2013 at the age of 52. Meanwhile, their sister Anne was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time three years ago. Coleen herself recently had a carcinoma removed from her shoulder and has pre-melanomas on her face, which require treatment.

She said: “Cancer just loves our family. I very much live with the fear that I could be next. I go and see a breast specialist every year and I get a mammogram every two years and I constantly check myself. You could worry yourself to death and some days I do, but I’m trying not to live in a bubble of anxiety. ’ve been very lucky in love. I’ve had two great marriages. Although they didn’t last, when they were good, they were great marriages and we’ve got three beautiful children. And I’ve been very lucky to find a fantastic love again.”

Peter Andre and pregnant wife Emily’s baby gender ‘revealed’ live on ITV Loose Women

Peter Andre and pregnant wife Emily appeared on Thursday’s Loose Women to talk about their family and upcoming third child together in a sweet interview

Peter Andre and pregnant wife Emily’s baby’s gender was ‘revealed’ in a fun segment on Thursday’s Loose Women.

The Mysterious Girl singer, 50, and doctor, 34, who have been married since 2015, announced the happy news last year they are expecting baby number three. When Emily’s baby is born, Peter will become a dad for the fifth time. Peter already shares two children – 18-year-old Junior and 16-year-old Princess – with ex-wife Katie Price and two children with Emily – nine-year-old Amelia and Theo, six.

Appearing on Thursday’s Loose Women, the couple revealed they are keeping their baby’s gender a surprise. Emily said she has no preference of whether their child is a girl or boy but Peter admitted he is secretly hoping for a baby boy although he is lucky to have “both” already.

Panellist Nadia Sawalha then used some old wives tales and tricks to ‘work out’ the baby’s gender ahead of birth. Examining Emily’s bump and discussing her symptoms, Emily told Nadia: “I’ve been really sick this time, that’s been the worst bit!” to which Nadia pointed out: “That means a boy!”

Nadia then performed the gender ring test on Emily’s bump, where you tie a piece of string onto a ring and place it over a baby bump. If the ring swings back and forth, it supposedly means you’re having a boy whereas if the ring goes around in a circle, you’re supposedly having a girl.

After examining the direction of the ring, Nadia declared: “It’s a boy, back and forth, it’s a boy!” The Loose Women stars then declared: “It’s official, it’s a boy… you heard it here first!” while Nadia added: “There’s no more surprises now!”

However, of course, these are just old wives tales and the couple won’t officially know the gender of their baby until its birth with Emily due in just a few weeks.

Asked about baby names, the couple admitted they have some gender neutral monikers they like the sound of such as Tony, Jamie and even Frankie – with the latter suggested by panellist Frankie Bridge.

On Thursday’s Loose Women, Frankie’s co-stars complimented the ensemble and how incredible she looked. However, this prompted Frankie to reveal she had been trolled for the daring dress. Talking about the outfit, Frankie quipped: “How dare I!”, adding: “It came with mixed reviews!

She continued: “I just thought it’s really funny in 2024 that other women would say to other women it was inappropriate or that as a mum I should not be wearing something like that or that it was offensive to my husband!” To which Nadia Sawalha quipped: “I doubt very much your husband was offended!” with Frankie revealing husband Wayne Bridge’s reaction, she said: “He was not offended, let me tell you!”

Frankie admitted the criticism was “weird”, saying: “I just thought it was a cool dress, I didn’t really give it any other thought other than that. The top is really rigid, nothing is going anywhere, I’ve had a lot more out in the past!” She added: “It’s fashion, it’s there to have fun and feel good in it, it was Valentine’s Day, why not!”

Despite some trolls criticising the dress, the majority of Frankie’s 1.6 million followers and celebrity pals went wild for the ensemble. Michelle Keegan wrote: “Wow!” with heart eyes while Katie Piper put a series of fire emojis. Frankie’s husband Wayne, who she married in 2014, even commented, cheekily writing: “Oi oi.”

Elsewhere, one fan said: “Why do people think she gives a s**t if you like the dress! She looks amazing in it! I’d wear it to go to Asda if I had her figure!” while another added: “If you have nothing nice to say just say nothing at all!!! BE KIND!! @frankiebridge you look stunning.”

ITV Loose Women in huge presenting shake-up with two new stars – but ‘iconic panelist set to quit’

Loose Women treated fans to two new additions as I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’s Sam Thompson and Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe join panel amid shake-up

Loose Women welcomed two new additions to its panel amid a huge ITV presenting shake-up.

During Friday’s episode of the daytime TV show, host Kaye Adams and panelist Nadia Sawalha were joined by I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here winner Sam Thompson and professional Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe. And this is a marked change to the show’s usual format of an all female panel.

And it looks as though both Sam and Johannes went down a storm among viewers. Taking to social media one fan wrote: “@jojo_radebe you were brilliant on #LooseWomen as was Sam, but you have to get @SamThompsonUK on @bbcstrictly.”

Another person said: “I loved Johannes and Sam on the panel today. Great show.” Meanwhile a third penned: “Loose Women & Men with Sam Thompson!!! love this guy.” However, this comes after former Loose Women presenter Carol McGiffin spoke out following reports that both Janet Street-Porter and Jane Moore were left unimpressed by the show’s new contract.

And now Jane and Janet are said to be in talks with ITV bosses who want them to sign the document saying they are permanent employees rather than freelance journalists. The new contract is also part of the reason why Carol quit the show last year. Writing in her Best column, Carol said: “It’s apparently the same issue that I had with them last year.”

She added: “I’m pretty sure – if their issues are the same as mine – ITV won’t back back down.” She also claimed that this would mean “intelligent” presenter Janet “will follow me out of the door.” Janet first appeared on the show in 1999 until 2002 before returning in 2013.

The row is said to be down to ITV’s new PAYE-only contracts policy, in response to HMRC’s policy on off-payroll working rules that ensures freelancers pay the same income tax and national insurance as employees. Sources have claimed that Janet and Jane, who have both been freelance for many years are “furious” over the “unacceptable” contract change, which does not offer holiday, sick pay or pensions and also forbids some work opportunities. Jane only appeared on the show 10 times last year.

A source told MailOnline: “Jane and Janet are furious. They have done such a lot of work for that show and they love it – but they do work across different companies and, as journalists, value their independent status. Things have got pretty tense. If it carries on, there might be a big change to the line-up.”

Speaking in May last year, Carol said “no one in their right mind” would sign the contract which she called “totally unjust and unworkable for me”. And during an appearance on GB News, the TV star said she no longer watches the show and claimed it’s become too “woke” for her.

ITV Loose Women’s Charlene White reveals health condition which left her ‘unable to open her eyes’

Charlene White appeared on TV today just hours on from being struck down by an allergic reaction, with the Loose Women star sharing the impact the reaction has had on her eyes on Instagram

Charlene White has opened up about the long-term impact an allergic reaction has had on her appearance.

The Loose Women presenter, 43, took to social media on Monday to share some before-and-after pictures with her fans, highlighting how her makeup artist is covering some marks around her eyes before appearing on TV as she waits to see a medical specialist regarding the reaction.

“Before the “ewww what’s wrong with her eyes!!” messages start flooding my inbox after @loosewomen , I’ve had an allergic reaction to something (and have had for months now) but it’s pretty bad this morning. Could barely open my eyes at 3am,” Charlene wrote as she captioned the snaps on Instagram ahead of appearing on the ITV show today.

She continued: “But huge thank-you to Loose make-up’s @francescajordan for doing a stellar camouflage job and covering it up. And yes I know putting make-up on won’t help the situation, but it was too late to not come into work. Such is life. Anyway, swipe to see what Fran’s magic hands achieved. Very grateful. (and yes, I’m booked in with a specialist this week… finally!)”

Charlene’s post concerned some of her fans, with one Instagram user commenting: “Your resilience to still go into work is commendable but please take the time off and rest your eyes.” Another added: “Oh you poor love. I hope your specialist has you back to your glowing self soon xx.”

Former Sugababe Heidi Range told the journalist: “Oh Charlene, poor you. I hope it’s not painful and that you get to the bottom of it soon.” Tanya Moodie shared with Charlene: “Poor woman! I had the same once when I reacted to a latex makeup sponge. Had no idea I had an allergy to latex. My whole face swelled and was covered in an angry rash, in the middle of filming! So I completely empathise. I hope your specialist can identify the culprit, and I hope you can get some rest. Hard with little ones plus work, I know.”

Charlene’s health update follows the broadcaster weighing in on the future of Loose Women following a string of stars quitting over a row regarding new contracts. Despite major personalities such as Lady Penny Lancaster, Ayda Field, and Carol McGiffin leaving the show in recent times, Charlene maintains optimism for its future.

Persistent whispers of tension between panelists have been circulating, most notably involving Nadia Sawalha and Coleen Nolan. However, Charlene defended the show amid these rumours. Speaking to Women’s Own, she said: “I’ve been there three years now, and I’ve loved it.” She also expressed excitement at welcoming new panelists from Love Island, Olivia Attwood and model Christine McGuinness.

Charlene is also thrilled that her new friend, Coronation Street actress Sue Cleaver, has joined the rotating panel of Loose Women. The two became close when they both appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2022. Charlene even takes credit for bringing Sue, who’s 60, into the Loose Women team. She shared: “When we came out of the jungle a year ago, I said to Sue, ‘I think you will fly if you join our Loose Women panel,’ and look at her now. She’s on tomorrow as a panellist and she fills in every now and then, which is incredible.”

Denise Welch reveals ‘brutal’ symptoms of painful hidden health condition after 15-year battle

Loose Women star Denise Welch bravely opened up about her secret 15 year health battle that has even caused her to miss work on the ITV daytime show

Denise Welch has bravely shared her 15-year struggle with vertigo that sometimes leaves her “screaming like a wounded animal”.

The Loose Women star, 65, revealed that this health battle has even caused her to miss work at times over the years and impacts her daily life. Discussing her experience with vertigo, Denise also described the experience as being similar to feeling drunk and can be “brutal”.

Denise – who is 11 years sober – compared her experience with vertigo to being on a rollercoaster and recalled how during a trip to New York last year she was forced to head to the airport early so she could find sears to lie down – declaring: “It was so bad. It’s really, really debilitating.”

Vertigo is a symptom, rather than a condition in itself, and can often get better without treatment but can severally impact your daily life. A vertigo attack can make you feel like everything around you is spinning – enough to affect your balance – and can last as little as a few seconds or go on for hours.

“I went to an ENT guy who sent me – this is after years of trying to get it done properly – went to an audiologist, check my hearing and said that was fine,” Denise explained on Loose Women yesterday while chatting about her health battle. “And then it sounds pretty brutal, but we established it was mainly my right side.”

She added: “So Lincoln was with me. And he laid me down on the bed and he said, I’m going to put you backwards to the left, which he did, which was horrible, but not so bad. Then he sat me up and put me down to to to the right – they threw me backwards. First time, threw me backwards with my head to the left, then with my head to the right. Lincoln said I sounded like an a wounded animal.”

Denise also revealed she had to pull out from Loose Women once because she felt so unwell with her vertigo. Fans of the ITV show were overjoyed at the end of last year when she announced she signed a new contract to stay on daytime TV programme. Denise has been part of Loose Women from 2005 until 2013, then she took a break and returned in 2018.

The former Coronation Street actress has now confirmed she won’t be leaving the ITV show anytime soon. Chatting to Best, she revealed: “I’ve just signed another contract for Loose Women for a year, which I adore. I’m there for the long-haul. But I’m at the point now where I love working, but I also love not working. Next year is about getting the balance right.”
