Jane McDonald details why she’s still not over late fiancé’s death three years on

Singer Jane McDonald lost her partner of 15 years, Eddie Rothe, when he was just 67 years old after a battle with lung cancer

Jane McDonald revealed she will ‘never get over’ her late fiancé Eddie Rothe’s death.

The singer sadly lost her partner of 15 years, Eddie Rothe, when he was just 67 after a battle with lung cancer in 2021. It was shortly after the death of her beloved mother, Jean, in 2018 – which left Jane devastated. Although she lost her fiancé in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, she was grateful for that time as it meant they could spend lots of time together and she wasn’t rushing off for work.

She has been open about her heartbreak in many interviews and previously told her Loose Women pals that she’s ‘not bothered’ about finding love again after her tragic loss. And in a new interview, Jane reminisced about her relationship with the star and said she ‘was so lucky’.

“I went out with a rock and roll star who was like an Adonis and then later I got the best of him. He was just lovely in every way – for me, he was the perfect fit. You never get over it – I’m not going to lie and say, ‘Oh yes, I’m fine’, because I’m not. You go through stages,” she explained.

“You’re angry. All your plans are gone. You thought you were going to grow old together but… And remember I had Ed and my mother gone within two years – and you think – ‘what do I do now?’,” Jane told Best Magazine.

Speaking on Loose Women earlier this month, Jane said she would bring back her mother and Ed back ‘in a heartbeat’ if she could. She said: “You’ve got to realise that life goes on and I want to live. I love life. We don’t know how many days we’ve got and Ed died very young. I want to just do everything I want to do. I’m moving forward and taking them with me.”

“As daft as it sounds, I’m thankful it was during Covid because I was there with him. Nobody else was. But that was the hardest thing. I had no nurses or doctors come in. I had to learn how to do it all myself. I had him at home as long as I could. Then I took him to the Wakefield Hospice, which is a beautiful place. I’ll be forever grateful to them. I was with him all the time there,” she recalled.

Denise Welch takes savage swipe at Loose Women co-stars after fight with Stacey Solomon

Loose Women co-hosts Denise Welch and Stacey Solomon had a bust-up live on-air earlier this year over working from home, and Denise hinted at tension between the pair in a recent interview

Denise Welch took a savage swipe at her Loose Women co-stars after an on-air fight with Stacey Solomon.

The women had a bust-up during an edition of the ITV daytime talk show in June, and while Denise dismissed rumours of a feud, she hinted at tensions during a chat on Olivia Attwood ’s podcast So Wrong It’s Right. The 66-year-old explained: “I’m always happy to have new blood on ( Loose Women ) because we do get bored of each other. But I’ve always been sceptical when younger people come in because, sometimes, they may have a great life story but they are either not prepared to talk about it yet, or are too worried about what the public are going to say.”She then lifted the lid on the behind-the-scenes tension, and added: “So they’ll be in a meeting saying ‘I’m not going to talk about that,’ and it’s kind of like, ‘what are you gonna talk about then?’” Stacey joined the show in 2016, and is one of the youngest members of the panel, along with Katie Piper and Frankie Bridge, and Denise’s comments come after her explosive on-air fallout with Stacey earlier this year.

During the debate in June, Stacey, 35, defended people working flexible hours from home after the pandemic, but she clashed with Denise, who believed that the country was “grinding to a halt” as the staff had “disappeared”. Unimpressed, Stacey replied: “They don’t disappear because they’re working from home,” but Denise was insistent, and asked: “But, where are they Stace?”

The mum-of-five went on to explain that she thinks the pandemic proved a lot of the UK’s workforce could do an “adequate if not better job” from home, but Denise disagreed, and viewers were left uncomfortable with the tension between the two women. The following month, former actress Denise explained the fallout, and said it had been blown out of proportion. “We disagreed on something, it was about young people and work ethic and since Covid, have Gen-Z become a bit more lazy and entitled, it was one of those kind of Loose Women things,” she began.

The TV star was met with a fierce backlash over her anti-vaccine stance back in 2020, as well as her opposition to the lockdowns during the pandemic, and several of her Loose Women co-hosts have challenged her on her controversial views. Denise claimed to have had only a handful of disagreements with her fellow panellists during her 25 years on the show, and hinted that she doesn’t get along with some of the other hosts.“In 25 years, there have obviously been a couple of people who aren’t as close as some of the others. Like in any show, there are some people you prefer, there are some panels I prefer to others. Just because of the dynamics of personalities,” she cryptically explained on an US podcast earlier this year.

Loose Women star Coleen Nolan was left red-faced by her son’s surprise on-air message during Tuesday’s show, leaving her co-stars and the audience gasping

Loose Women star Coleen Nolan was left red-faced by her son’s surprise on-air message during Tuesday’s show.

During the latest instalment, the panellists discussed the topic ‘did your parents kiss in front of you?’ to which Coleen, 59, revealed she wasn’t a fan of over-the-top public displays of affections.

However, co-star Ruth Langsford was quick to interject as she received a message from Coleen’s son, Shane Nolan, 35. Ruth said: “Interestingly, I’ve just had a message come in, this is from Shane…”

To which a red-faced Coleen exclaimed: “Oh no!” Ruth continued: “He says tell mum, what are you talking about? You’re constantly kissing Michael and it makes me want to vom!’”

Coleen was left red-faced over the message as the live audience and her co-stars gasped in shock. Coleen said in response: “Oh no I’m not, he’s just winding me up and I’m so gonna kill him when I see him!” Asked if it was true, Coleen declared: “No, no!” with Ruth teasing: “She’s gone red!”

Justifying herself, Coleen said: “No, a kiss on the lips, we won’t stand there snogging the face off each other, it makes me sick!” Adding: “He [her son, Shane] watches Loose Women every day, he needs to get a life!”

Coleen, who divorced second husband Ray Fensome in 2018, met boyfriend Michael Jones in 2021 after joining Tinder. Coleen joined the dating site with the help of fellow Loose Women panellist and friend Brenda Edwards.

Talking to the Mirror, Coleen said: “I was on Tinder with Brenda – she swiped right for me I just said ‘oh he looks nice’ and then he messaged me and it just went from there really. And he didn’t have all that ‘bet you’re a loose woman’ or ‘bet you’re in the mood for dancing’ chat.”

Coleen Nolan joked she was "mortified" on Wednesday's Loose Women as the show panned onto her boyfriend in the audience

She added: “I always said, after my second divorce, I’m never, ever getting married again.. I love marriage and it’s fantastic when it’s working. Brilliant. Nothing better. But when it goes wrong, it’s horrendous… divorce is also like grief. You mourn the end of any relationship.”

But Coleen remains the hopeless romantic and has admitted that she does ponder whether wedding bells might beckon again: “I do sometimes,” she said, “I think it would be lovely.”

Coleen was married to Shane Richie from 1990 to 1999, they share children Jake, 32, and Shane Jr, 35. The star was married to Ray Fensome from 2007 to 2018, they share daughter Ciara, 23.

Eamonn Holmes planning more loved-up getaways with younger girlfriend after Ruth Langsford’s fury

Eamonn Holmes is reportedly planning to indulge in more lavish holidays alongside his girlfriend Katie Alexander just weeks after they enjoyed a luxury cruise together

Eamonn Holmes has reportedly planned more romantic getaways with his new girlfriend Katie Alexander just weeks after they returned from their luxury cruise.

Eamonn, 64, and Katie, 42, made headlines earlier this month when they were seen heading off to the luxury cruise with Eamonn in his electric wheelchair at Heathrow Airport alongside Katie. From there they jetted to Barcelona to board Virgin Voyager’s luxurious Scarlet Lady.

Now reports suggest that Eamonn has made no secret of his plans to jet set more with Katie having allegedly told many of his GB News colleagues about their plans. One said: “Eamonn’s lined up lots more cruises with Katie for the near future. It’s become something they’re both really looking forward to.”

Eamonn and Ruth’s split shocked everyone (The insider added that the pair are also reportedly toying with the idea of packing up and moving out of London to relocate to Eamonn’s native Belfast. Katie is reportedly also certain that Eamonn is her ‘soulmate’ and she’s ready ‘to love and care for him’ given his chronic health woes. “Eamonn is her man, and she’s there to look after him,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Loose Women star Ruth, also 64, has reportedly been left stunned by Eamonn’s new love interest. Earlier this month, a source said: “She’s just trying to get on with life and be around good friends, she’s partying through the pain and is trying to get through it. Ruth is distracting herself and doing things that make her happy keeping busy and being around friends, family and work is the only way she can get through it.”

They continued to The Sun: “Katie absolutely loves cruises and Eamonn used to say that Ruth was never one for travel. She didn’t enjoy going away and never liked going on a boat or a plane. It became a bit of a sticking point between them as Eamonn has always had a passion for exploring new places.

“Now, with Katie, Eamonn feels he can really embrace that side of life again. He’s eager to make up for the years he felt he missed out on.” GB News presenter Eamonn appears to be fully investing in his blossoming relationship, as he and his partner Katie are also believed to be set to move in together.

And it seems that he and marriage counsellor Katie are completely comfortable around one another, as Katie’s nickname for Eamonn has been unveiled as she continues to be ‘completely smitten’. “Katie is telling everyone that she’s totally smitten and in love. They’ve known each other for nine years, so this isn’t a fly-by-night relationship – she’s in it for the long haul. They’re now looking at places to move in together, as they want a lot more space,” a source told Heat magazine.

Loose Women fans insist ‘something happened off air’ between Coleen and Denise amid tension

Loose Women returned for another daytime show with Coleen Nolan and Denise Welch alongside Christine Lampard and Linda Robson

Loose Women fans were left speculating Coleen Nolan and Denise Welch may have had an off-air dispute after the pair came to blows during an awkward episode of the ITV daytime show.

During Tuesday’s episode of the ITV lunchtime programme, Coleen and Denise were joined by Christine Lampard and Linda Robson as they discussed various topics including menopause and friendships.

Christine was keen to get their thoughts on a claim that women only need one good friend in their life, prompting Denise to mention her attempts to organise a get together for the Loose Women panellists.

However, Coleen told Denise she didn’t want to come on the Loose Women meet-up, while Linda said the former singer wasn’t even in their WhatsApp group.

The awkward exchange prompted viewers to take to Twitter to insist there was a “bad atmosphere” in the studio, as one tweeted: “There seems to be a bad atmosphere on the panel today, give me a knife to cut it lol.”

“Something definitely happened backstage, you could cut the tension with a knife.”

They added, alongside a picture of two women not speaking to one another as they scrolled through their phones: “I bet it’s like this in the ad breaks.”

A third wrote: “You can tell Coleen is very annoyed by Denise today,” as another echoed: “The tension between Coleen and Denise is so obvious.”

Denise, 64, said: “We’ve said that we’re longing to get together and talk about stuff that we never talk about here, but let’s put a pencil on it because you make more of an effort if you’ve got it in the diary somewhere.”

Coleen, 57, then replied, looking away: “But then I’d forget the diary, so…”

Christine, 43, joked: “You’d forget the diary, forget the invite?” Coleen said back: “Yeah. I don’t want to sit and chat.”

Denise replied: “She’ll just get a rubber and rub it out,” before Coleen said: “I don’t want to chat to you, I chat to you here.”

Denise then told her: “Well you’re not even invited, so…” Coleen said in reply: “I don’t want to come. I don’t want to come. I’m busy.”

There have been repeated rumours circulating this year of an ongoing feud between certain Loose Women co-stars, but they have been constantly denied by the panellists.

Wednesday’s episode of Loose Women saw panellist Kaye Adams tell Jane Moore to ‘shut up’ as they discussed whether or not they go to bed on an argument

Kaye Adams was quick to tell Jane Moore to “shut up” on Wednesday’s Loose Women as the panel discussed going to bed on an argument.

Kaye and Jane were joined by Judi Love and Gloria Hunniford on the ITV lunchtime show as they revealed whether or not they bicker with the men in their lives.

Speaking about her own relationship, Kaye admitted: “Ian and I will go to bed having had some kind of spat with each other and we’re kinda frosty and a bit of sort of huffy…”

Jane then butted in: “That’s gotta be you though coz Ian’s so mild mannered, so even tempered…”

“Yeah Ian’s lovely…” Kaye, 59, replied rolling her eyes but as she tried to explain herself, Jane spoke over her and said: “Lovely Ian” but Kaye fired back and jokingly told her to “shut up”.

Mother-of-two Kaye then continued: “Ian is much better at saying sorry than I am, he really is, he could teach me a thing or two.

“But I think we need to go to sleep, wake up in the morning and we’re fine. But we just need that little bit of buffer, probably because I do find it difficult and I think he kinda just lets me be.”

Loose Women presenter Kaye Adams has undergone a series of tests ahead of her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing, with doctors discovering she is nearly deaf in one ear

The Loose Women star, 59, has recently undergone a series of tests ahead of her appearance on the hit BBC show Strictly Come Dancing. She said she has been advised to get hearing aids.

Kaye said the checks found one of her ears has a poor level of hearing, while the other is trying to compensate.

“My hearing is an issue, to the extent that I’ve had full consultations and examinations on my ears. It’s probably getting to the stage where it’s getting problematic in certain situations,” she told The Sun.

The show then featured a segment which showed Kaye visiting a doctor to have her ears tested before being told she is losing her hearing in both ears. The doctor advised her to wear a hearing aid in each moving forward.

During Thursday’s episode of Loose Women, Denise Welch and her co-stars watched a clip of The 1975 frontman Matthew Healy singing a heartfelt song about Denise’s battle with depression

Brenda Edwards became visibly emotional on Thursday’s Loose Women as she watched a clip of Denise Welch ‘s son singing.

Matthew Healy is the singer of the band The 1975 and wrote a song called She Lays Down about his mother’s depression.

During a discussion on the latest edition of the ITV show, Denise, 64, chatted with her co-stars Kaye Adams, Coleen Nolan and Brenda about whether or not you should tell your children when you’re ill.

Referring to her past mental health problems, Denise said: “Matthew was used to mum being very poorly in bed. but it’s interesting when kids grow up, how what you tell them and how they’ve processed it manifests.

“And that’s why he wrote ‘She Lays Down’,” Denise continued as she read out some of the lyrics to the song.

As the video was played, the camera panned to both Denise and Brenda watching it, both with very sombre faces.

Gloria joined in on the conversation and said: “I respected the fact that they wanted a bit of privacy, but now, privacy to me is you go to a different country and you do not do Oprah Winfrey, do every magazine, do all sorts of deals with Netflix…”

Loose Women studio erupts in second Meghan Markle clash as panellist slams ‘boring’ debate

Kelle Bryan, Janet Street-Porter and Jane Moore had a very tense discussion about Meghan Markle and the royal family on Loose Women

The Loose Women studio descended into furious debate for the second day running on Wednesday afternoon, as the panellists discussed Meghan Markle ’s latest tell-all interview.

Host Jane Moore was joined on the panel by Sophie Morgan, Kelle Bryan and Janet Street-Porter as they discussed the former actress’s comparison of her wedding with Prince Harry to Nelson Mandela being freed from prison.

The former Suits actress recalled an encounter she had at the 2019 London premiere with an actor from South Africa who made a comparison to her wedding with Prince Harry and Nelson Mandela.

Panellists Jane and Janet took issue with the comparison, but Kelle defended Meghan’s comments, resulting in a loud clash in the ITV studio.

The conversation turned heated as the focus turned to Meghan’s comments about her two children Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana and the lives they could have led in the UK.

Janet said to Kelle: “You seem to be implying that the British people by default would think less of her son and think badly of her son because he’s a person of colour and mixed race.”

Kelle hit back insisting: “That’s her experience. She said within the royal household people have made comments about her son as a person of colour.

“If that’s the first representation she’s had, what’s she thinking about as a wider community outside. Racism is something we deal with on a daily basis.”

Jane then said: “There’s racism in America as well though,” to which Kelle agreed there was.

Kelle then tried to regain the conversation as she interjected: “Hang on a second, wait,”
Sophie scathingly said: “It’s just so boring talking about Meghan Markle”

Janet then stepped in and said: “What I find ironic is that she left this country because she complained of having her privacy invaded and she’s crossed to another continent where now in the space of a week we’ve had two podcasts and a 6,000 word interview.”

Kelle then raised the “confines” on Meghan’s life while a part of the royal family, as she had to shout over her fellow panellists to say: “She couldn’t receive her mail without somebody else reading it.”

The panel then inexplicably burst into laughter at the comment, as Janet said: “I think I’m not allowed to receive my mail on this show without someone reading it.”

ITV)Kelle then tried to regain the conversation as she interjected: “Hang on a second, wait,” before Sophie finally piped up to weigh in on the conversation.

She scathingly said: “It’s just so boring talking about Meghan Markle – but I get all the points raised.”

She continued: “We’re pulling out things that’s being said. It’s a shame when she knows she’s being scrutinised for things she says that she still says things that potentially detract from her agenda.

“She wants to manage her voice and her truth, but she should be aware she compares herself to Mandela, it’s going to get scrutinised.”
