ITV pull all live TV as police surround studio after bomb threat

What happened to This Morning today as ITV pull all live TV off air – including Loose Women – due to security incident. Nearby Wood Lane and White City tube stations have been closed as police deal with the bomb threat

ITV has pulled its live shows – This Morning and Loose Women – off air today, with emergency footage aired instead.

Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby had been presenting This Morning live, but after they returned from the break, the pair appeared in a pre-recorded segment to say they couldn’t be with viewers live today.

It was a bomb threat that took the show off air – but the Metropolitan Police have since confirmed that the security incident, which was reported nearby to the studios, has been diffused.

Earlier in the programme, they had aired an interview with Rebel Wilson, whilst Brenda Blethyn appeared on the show to talk about the new series of Kate and Koji.

Instead of their planned Guess the Gadget segment, back up footage of Phil and Holly trying some tree-hugging was aired rather than the live show. As part of the emergency footage, they also aired a segment with Britain’s dullest men.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police reads: “At 11:14hrs on Thursday, 10 March, police were called to reports of a security alert at Wood Lane, White City. It was reported a suspicious item had been discovered.

“The area was evacuated as a precaution and White City and Wood Lane tube stations were temporarily closed. The incident was stood down shortly before 12:49hrs. An investigation is ongoing.”

Fans of the ITV show were puzzled by the change, and took to Twitter wondering what happened.

“What happened to #ThisMorning,” one confused fan wrote online, as another added: “Wait what’s happened? #ThisMorning.”‘

This Morning addressed the show being off air in a tweet posted at 12.50pm.

“We apologise for the break in live programming today. We are currently running pre-recorded content and hope to be back with you soon,” they said in a post online, whilst Loose Women posted the same message on their social media channels.

It’s reported that Lorraine Kelly was unwittingly the alleged target of the ‘bomb package’.

A source close to the daytime telly star say she was the intended recipient of a box which was picked up by the network’s security staff before it could reach her – sparking a evacuation from the ITV building and closure of nearby Tube stations.

    Lorraine Kelly
Lorraine KellyIt’s said the 62-year-old Scottish host was “very concerned” at the prospect of being a potential target – but details are yet to emerge surrounding the nature of the package which has since been removed by experts.

A source told The Sun: “Word quickly got around that whatever the box contained, it was addressed to Lorraine.

“Everyone at ITV loves her – so people were upset and very concerned over the whole incident. Fortunately everyone is safe, but it shakes everyone up.”

It is not yet known what the security incident is but two stations near the studios, Wood Lane and White City, have been closed.

“White City and Wood Lane stations closed: While the police respond to a security alert outside the station,” the tweet from Transport for London reads.

Pictures from the studio show the crew standing outside due to the nearby security incident, with photos from the scene showing a big group of people outside the Television Centre building.

Fans of the two ITV shows were left puzzled when the show went off air with no explanation.

” @thismorning Erm… what happened? Was watching and looking forward to the gadget game and the show suddenly switched to a prerecorded set. Not even a comment in the ad break to explain,” one wrote.

A second added: “@itvstudios please can you tell me what is going on, why are you showing pre recorded Loose Women and what happened to the end of This Morning.”

The Mirror have contacted both the Metropolitan Police and ITV for further information.

Loose Women fans left cringing at Catherine Tate’s Nan interview as she slates panel

The comedy star left viewers unimpressed when she rocked up as her foul mouthed nan character with fans finding her unfunny and wishing she’d been Catherine rather than her character

Loose Women fans were left cold by Catherine Tate in character as Joannie Taylor – aka her foul mouthed Nan character – as she rocked up on the panel to promote her new film.

Viewers were left cringing as they tuned into the ITV daytime show and branded the comedy queen ‘not funny’ and were left wishing 53-year-old Catherine had been interviewed as herself rather than her potty-mouthed character.

The star has a big screen outing of her grandmother character hitting cinemas at the end of the week – with ‘Nan’ from The Catherine Tate Show getting her own spin-off called Nan: The Movie.

And while the star raised some giggles by appearing on Loose Women on Monday and looking unimpressed by the panel consisting of Ruth Langsford, Nadia Sawalha, Linda Robson and Carol McGiffin – asking instead for Denise Welch and Kirsty Alsopp – overall, those tuning in were not amused.

Taking to Twitter, fans lined up to slam the actress, with one writing: “I like Catherine Tate but this isn’t funny #LooseWomen.”

Another complained: “#LooseWomen I love Catherine Tate as a person, but I must be getting old as I don’t find Nan funny anymore.”

Another viewer tweeted: “Eek. Not sure Nan can extend to a whole film…. This interview is already cringe #LooseWomen” – with another claiming there was “forced laughter” from the panel.

Some viewers did, however, love Catherine’s in-character appearance.

One tweeted in approval, writing: “OMG!!!!! Absolutely howling at Nan on #LooseWomen can’t wait to see the movie. Asking for @RealDeniseWelch oh she’s a diva with @McGiff.”

Another wrote: “Nan asking where Kirsty Allsopp is [crying-with-laughter emoji] #LooseWomen.”

Catherine first introduced Nan to the world way back in 2004 when she launched her BBC sketch series The Catherine Tate Show.

Since then, the Nan character has appeared in a number of spin-off made-for-TV films – but her own big screen movie will hit cinemas on Friday.

The film will see Catherine reunited with Gavin & Stacey star Matthew Horne who returns to play long-suffering grandson, Jamie.

Fellow The Catherine Tate Show alum Niky Wardley who famously played one of Lauren ‘Am I Bovvered’ Cooper’s best friends is among the cast playing Officer Mahler.

Film director Josie Rourke has previously told Digital Spy: “I think I speak for loads of us when I say that my Gran’s spirit lives in Catherine Tate’s immortal Nan.

Loose Women fans slate Carol McGiffin eyebrow makeover ‘from wonky to wonkier’

Carol got her eyebrows beefed up with make-up as she demonstrated a pain-free alternative to fuller brows after Loose Women co-star Ruth Langsford got her own tattooed

Carol McGiffin was given an eyebrow makeover on Loose Women on Monday – being inspired by Ruth Langford after she had her own brows tattooed.

The 62-year-old broadcaster was on the show alongside panelists Nadia Sawalha and Linda Robson and was given a special treat from a beautician.

Over the weekend, 61-year-old Ruth went under the gun of a tattooist as she had a tattoo to make her eyebrows look fuller and more pronounced.

Carol was given a less painful treatment on Monday’s show as a beauty expert used her as a guinea pig to show viewers how they can get fuller brows via a less extreme route.

And while Carol was spared the pain of a tattoo gun as the beautician used a simple make-up trick to give her more pronounced brows, cruel online trolls may leave her hurt with their bitter comments.

Appearing on stage after having her makeover, Carol joked to her co-stars: “Look what she’s done to me!”

Ruth explained what Carol had done, telling viewers: “She used… this is a brow mascara. Not a normal mascara, it’s one specifically for your brows.

Confirming it was all very pain free, Carol said: “I thought she was saying brown mascara, but it’s actually brow mascara! Even I could do that.”

But viewers were not impressed by Carol’s makeover – and brutally took to social media to thrown digs and abuse at the star.

While others slammed the show for giving air time to a frivolous feature, tweeting: “#loosewomen Very engaging discussion about the strip of hair above people’s eyes….. what on earth was the point of that?”

However, Loose Women is very accustomed to tackling light-hearted topics as well as the more hard hitting news.

Ahead of Monday’s show, Ruth explained why she had decided to get her eyebrows tattooed.

Unveiling her new look on Instagram, she said: “So I finally bit the bullet! I’ve been thinking of having my eyebrows tattooed for a while and yesterday I did it!

Linda Robson bursts into tears on Loose Women day after turning 64

The Birds of a Feather actress, who celebrated her 64th birthday yesterday, cried live on air after watching a sweet birthday message from her two granddaughters

Linda Robson cried live on air during today’s Loose Women after receiving a surprise birthday message from her young granddaughters.

The Birds of a Feather actress, who turned 64 yesterday, burst into tears as she watched granddaughters Lila and Betsy wish her a happy birthday.

In between tears, the panellist explained she won’t see eldest Lila for a few days, saying: “She’s just gone on a school journey today so I won’t see her for a week.”

The actress was also presented with flowers and cake by her fellow panellists Ruth Langsford, Nadia Sawalha and Carol McGiffin.

Due to her enthusiasm of being a grandma, Linda is known as Nanny Linda by her fans and looks after Lila and Betsy three days a week after school.

Last week, speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Linda responded to claims that she is estranged from Birds of a Feather co-star and lifelong friend Pauline Quirke, as well as chitter chatter that the entire cast of Loose Women are also chomping at the bit to take each other down.

“People say Pauline and I have fallen out,” said Linda. “I couldn’t see her during lockdown but I’ve seen her since. She just doesn’t want to act anymore. She’s had enough – it’s long hours.

“She’s concentrating on her drama academies. She’s very hands on, going to classes and all that.

“But when I was ill, both Pauline and Lesley rang me, or a member of my family, every couple of days to see how I was. They were both a big support and really there for me.”

It’ll be reassurance to the fans of the sitcom, who’ve spent 30-odd years invested in the highs and lows of Pauline and Linda’s downtrodden Essex wives Sharon and Tracey Theodopolopodous (plus the rather different ups and downs of Lesley’s maneating neighbour Dorien Green).

But it’s Loose Women who have really been pitted against each other of late, with rumours of behind-the-scenes squabbles flying on social media.

“Just because it’s a women’s show people always ask ‘Do we get on?’,” said an exasperated Linda. “We do get on. They wouldn’t ask that of a man about a men’s show would they? We all meet up with each other all the time.

Katie Piper says her new face is ‘made from a cow’ after acid attack destroyed skin

Loose Women panellist Katie Piper has revealed how surgeons reconstructed her face after she was the victim of a horrific acid attack in 2008, aged just 24

Katie Piper OBE explained that her “face is made out of a cow” as she opened up about her NHS surgeons’ pioneering work.

The Loose Women panelist, 38, had to have her face rebuilt after she was attacked with acid by her ex-boyfriend, which caused major damage to her face and blindness in one eye.

After her eye operation, Katie’s daughter told her she found her ‘scary’, which broke her heart.

Explaining the moment, Katie said to The Sun : “It was quite sad when I was having some eye surgery and my eldest was like, ‘I don’t really want you to kiss me goodnight, I think you’re scary.’

“And of course, I had a little cry in the bathroom because I was like ‘oh god, this is where we are at.’”

Benedict Cumberbatch, Gary Lineker and Emma Thompson are among the high profile stars who have offered to welcome refugees fleeing war-torn Ukraine under the government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme

With the UK Government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme attracting over one hundred thousand volunteers within a day of launching last week, some refugees fleeing the war-torn country could find themselves being housed by celebs.

A number of high profile stars have announced that they are doing what they can to help those fleeing the conflict – which was sparked on 24 February when Russian President Vladimir Putin launched an illegal invasion of the democratic country.

Scenes of destruction of Ukrainian cities and millions of refugees fleeing the country have shocked the world – with reports suggesting as many as 3.25 million women and children have fled in search of safety.

Here are some of the stars that have said they will help those in need by throwing open their doors to families to give them a safe place to live in the UK.

The 45-year-old father-of-three – who is married to theatre director Sophie Hunter – opened up about his plans at the recent BAFTAs in London.

He told Sky News: “We have brothers and sisters who are suffering.

“It is a really shocking time to be a European, two-and-a-half hours’ flight away from Ukraine. It’s something that hangs over us.

“Everyone needs to do as much as they can. I think already today the news has broken that there’s been a record number of people volunteering to take people into their homes, and I hope to be part of that myself.”

Show panelist Nadia Sawalha said she was considering taking in a refugee – but admitted she was unsure if she would be a good match for candidates.

The 57-year-old said on the show: “I absolutely would [house a Ukrainian refugee] and my first thought is how many people can I take in?

“Second thought is I know myself very well and I think I’m a great starter, but a terrible finisher. I can just see that I would get completely overwhelmed, my parents are elderly, I work full time. Would I be the right person?

“I don’t know if I would be available enough. I think we need to know what our limitations are. I’m looking at other ways to help. There’s websites where you can buy goods directly from Ukrainian people and then not take the food but you’re giving them the money.”

Fellow Loose Women star Linda Robson said she and her husband Mark Dunford were considering taking in refugees as their home is much quieter now that their children have flown the coop.

Linda admitted that she gets lonely when she is at home alone and would welcome the distraction of having refugees in her house.

The 64-year-old grandmother said: “I have been thinking about it. Because I’m quite lonely.

“My kids have moved out, my son’s moved out and my daughter’s moved out. Sometimes I’m in the home alone and I feel quite lonely.

“My initial reaction is yeah I’d like to open the door and welcome a family… but it’s for six months and who knows what’s going to happen in that time.”

Sandi Toksvig has utilised social media to drive the message that British people can now volunteer to take in refugees from Ukraine – and is campaigning for the process to be streamlined.

Sharing a video on Twitter after the Homes for Ukraine campaign was launched by the government, Sandi said: “Thank you so much to everyone who helped spread the word by retweeting our last video and sending the message that the British people welcome refugees with open arms.

Over 100,000 people have signed up in one day offering to host refugees. I’m one of them.

But here’s the hitch. At the moment there is no process for connecting the people who want to help with the people who need our help. We need to move faster so that we can welcome refugees now.

While Sandi’s video hinted a host of other stars including Jo Brand, Bill Bailey, David Baddiel and Emma Thompson will also be opening their doors to welcome refugees from Ukraine.

The topic came up after it was revealed that a mystery person had left their teeth at a restaurant.

Coleen admitted that there’s several times when she’s had her daughter drop her off at the train station – only to realise that she’s forgotten her suitcase.

“I knew straight away it could be serious because I knew we could be mates and he made me laugh and we laughed a lot on the phone,” she gushed.

Loose Women’s Jane Moore took a tongue-in-cheek swipe at fellow panellist Coleen Nolan after she ‘shoved’ her at the start of the ITV show

Loose Women panellist Jane Moore called Coleen Nolan “ghastly” at the start of Wednesday’s ITV daytime show.

As the show kicked off for its mid-week instalment, host Jane, 59, took a tongue-in-cheek swipe at Coleen, as she revealed the 57-year-old shoved her moments before the show.

Jane opened the show saying: “Hello and welcome to your mid-week helping of Loose Women.

“Joining me for lots of laughs and lunchtime chat, it’s the ghastly Coleen Nolan – you just shoved me on air.”

Coleen was open-mouthed in shock for a moment before the pair laughed off the incident and sat down at the Loose Women panel, which has returned to its pre-Covid size with the seats closer together after social distancing restrictions were scrapped.

The pair were joined on the panel by Linda Robson, 64, and activist Shani Dhanda, 35, as they launched into a discussion of lockdown loneliness.

The catty remark came after a similarly heated exchange during Tuesday’s show, as Janet Street-Porter and Coleen exchanged tense words.

Janet offered to dunk her face in a large bowl of ice cold water in a nod to the latest TikTok trend, which can reportedly help improve skin circulation and wellbeing.

As panellist Christine Lampard suggested that Janet and guest Greg Wise do so for as long as they can, Coleen quickly asked: “Can we make it five minutes?”

Janet pointed out that she can’t actually hold her breath for that long, to which Coleen said: “I know, that’s the point!”

“Do you want me to die live on air?” she asked Christine, Coleen and fellow panellist Beverley Knight, as Coleen quickly fired back: “A little bit!”

The presenter made her return to the ITV studios for the first time, and she admits it was weird to be back – although she said she stands by her decision to quit her role on the ITV lunchtime show.

Andrea quit Loose Women in November 2020 after over a decade at the helm of the programme, explaining her decision at the time as she admitted it was a “really big decision” for her.

And making her return to ITV to discuss her new book, Andrea has admitted she felt very scared at the time.

Kate Ferdinand says she was ‘naive’ becoming step-mum after Rio’s family’s ‘deep loss’

Kate Ferdinand appeared on ITV’s Loose Women and detailed her family life with husband Rio Ferdinand in the wake of the loss of his first wife Rebecca Ellison to cancer

Kate Ferdinand has detailed how she was “naive” becoming a step-parent in her husband Rio Ferdinand ’s family as her step-children grieved the loss of their mum.

Rebecca Ellison died in 2015, aged 34, after a short battle with breast cancer, tragically leaving Rio with their three children Tate, 13, Lorenz, 15, and Tia, 10.

The former TOWIE star, 30, met her 43-year-old former footballer husband in 2017 and has since welcomed son Cree during the coronavirus lockdown.

Kate appeared on Wednesday’s instalment of Loose Women to discuss the first episode of her new podcast Blended.

Host Jane Moore kicked off the chat, saying: “When I look at what you stepped into – three children grieving the loss of their mum and Rio obviously lost his wife – you didn’t have any kids of your own and stepped into that situation – it must have been incredibly tricky.”

Kate replied saying she was “quite naive” stepping into the situation, adding: “I thought, I’ll be fine.”

She said: “I didn’t really take into consideration the dynamics. I’ve learnt that I’m very resilient and to have a big heart can get you very far in life.”

Later in their conversation, she described the lack of advice available for mothers in her situation, who are “dealing with lots of grief”.

She added: “I wanted to start a community because I feel like when you share a problem, it helps take the pressure off.”

The ITV studio chat turned to Mother’s Day, as Kate detailed on the first episode of her podcast how she feels “alone and guilty” on the day as she struggles to celebrate when her step-children have suffered “such a deep loss”.

Kate told the Loose Women panellists of the day: “It was my first year being a biological parent and so it’s really exciting and overwhelming when you become a mother, but also everyone in my house has had such a big loss, so it’s trying to balance those emotions – it’s hard.”

Kate said on her podcast that she “really, really struggled” with the celebratory day even before she was a biological parent due to the family’s tragic loss and “somehow I thought it would be easier when I had Cree but actually last year was probably the toughest Mother’s Day to date”.

“How can I have the audacity to celebrate myself when all my family have had such a deep loss?

“I felt really alone and quite isolated. I didn’t know anyone in a similar situation or going through the same sort of thing as me.”
