Patrick Mahomes Sr., who is the father of star Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, is facing some serious charges.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. was charged with a felony count of driving while intoxicated for a third time or more this week, according to TMZ Sports.

He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted.

Mahomes Sr. was originally arrested before the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. It happened on February 3rd in Texas after he reportedly showed signs of impairment during a routine traffic stop. TMZ stated at the time that he had admitted to drinking multiple beers before driving and had an open alcoholic beverage in the car.

His arrest came before his son would lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers. The quarterback’s father still traveled to Las Vegas for the game but kept a low profile to not take the moment away from him.

Patrick Mahomes was asked about his father at Super Bowl Opening Night and told reporters, “Yeah, he’s doing good. I haven’t—I don’t want to really get into it too much, but he’s doing good for whatever the situation is.

“It’s a family matter so I’ll just keep it to the family and that’s all I really have to say at this point.”

Mahomes Sr. has faced two prior DWI charges as he was charged with public intoxication in 2016 during a game between TCU and Texas Tech and then charged with a DWI offense in 2018.

Travis Kelce is also on a break from his usual NFL schedule. The tight end and his Kansas City Chiefs team entered the NFL offseason after they secured a second-consecutive Super Bowl victory in Las Vegas on Feb. 11, 2024.

Now, Kelce has several months free until preseason practices start, with specific dates and times for teams to be announced in the spring. The Chiefs player is training to stay in shape while he enjoys his time off over the next few months, though he’s not tied to an official NFL practice schedule that would conflict with Coachella weekend.

Kelce spoke with PEOPLE about his potential plans to return to the music and arts festival in Indio, California this year. “I am a Coachella guy,” the NFL star said in April, about one week away from the event.

“I love going to Coachella. I love live music in general. So you might see me pop up over there at some point,” he added. However, with the NFL season not too far away and a handful of additional responsibilities around his other endeavors, Kelce teased his plan wasn’t set in stone.

“I’m not sure if I’ll go to a weekend, one or two, or if I even have time knowing my schedule’s filling up pretty quick before we get started back up for football here,” he explained.

Swift hasn’t publicly said anything about her Coachella plans this year, however, the lineup alone is a solid reason for her to attend — or potentially make a surprise appearance as a guest performer. Notably, one of the headliners is Lana Del Rey, who is a longtime friend and collaborator of the pop superstar.

Kelce spoke in advance of Kelce Jam on May 18, which will be held at the Azura Amphitheater in Kansas City. Rappers Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz were successfully recruited for the event and will be headliners, while disc jockey Diplo will also perform. Swift will be in Stockholm, Sweden, for the European leg of her tour.

The festival is slated to run for seven hours into the evening of May 18 and will promote local restaurants, with Kelce hopeful of attracting more than 20,000 attendees who showed up in 2023.

Patrick Mahomes is opening up about what it was like for the Kansas City Chiefs to witness their teammate begin a romance with one of the most famous women on the planet earlier this year, when none other than Taylor Swift started showing up to their games to cheer on boyfriend Travis Kelce.

 

And though the pairing was surprising at first, the quarterback says that the pop star is now just part of the family. “At first, I feel like everybody kind of stayed away, let [Kelce] do what he was doing,” Mahomes said in a sit-down with CBS Mornings’ Nate Burleson, which airs in full on Christmas Day at noon.

“Then he started bringing Taylor around and we realized how cool of a person she was,” he continued. “So for us, there was a couple jokes here and there at the beginning. But now, she’s just part of Chiefs Kingdom. She’s part of the team.”

Mahomes also touched on the 12-time Grammy winner’s friendship with his wife, retired soccer player Brittany Mahomes. The two women often sit next to each other in a box suite at Chiefs games, and have hung out together several times in both New York City and Kansas City.

“It’s cool that she’s embraced Brittany and they’ve built a friendship as well,” shared No. 15. “[Kelce is] lucky enough to be with a great girl, and a great woman. She’s top tier at her profession. It’s really cool to hear about and to see, and now I have a first-hand look at that through Brittany and Travis’ eyes.”

“It is really cool,” he added. “I’m glad she’s the person she is, and she and Travis match so well.”

Jason Kelce has no problem with his wife, Kylie Kelce, or their three daughters showing support for his brother Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs, as long as their loyalty remains with the Philadelphia Eagles. “Ky, you can wear a Chiefs jersey, we don’t have to be that serious,” Jason, 35, joked during an interview on NFL on NBC on Saturday, October 21. “Maybe just don’t wear it when we’re playing against them this year.”

She further expressed, “Of course, I always want Travis to succeed, and obviously I want Jason to do well too. However, I simply cannot go as far as supporting the Chiefs by doing their signature ‘Chiefs chop’ gesture.”

In his NBC Sports interview with Devin McCourty, a retired NFL star, it was mentioned by Jason McCourty, also a professional football player and twin brother to Devin, that his daughters occasionally express support for the Chiefs. Jason acknowledged that his daughters own some Chiefs gear and have worn it before. Although their loyalty primarily lies with the Eagles, they do show some occasional support for the Chiefs.

After watching the game’s conclusion, Wyatt expressed her disappointment to her father in the Kelce documentary, stating that Uncle Travvy was the winner and she did not want him to be.

Wyatt informed her dad in the Kelce documentary after witnessing the conclusion of the game, “You only win if Travvy wins. I didn’t want him to win.” Kylie added that Wyatt made this announcement on the family bus as they left the game, which brought a sense of relief to the gloomy Eagles fans in the crowd.

Jason expressed his joy in witnessing his brother’s victory in the second Super Bowl, and he continues to feel this way.

“He’s so talented, and it’s evident that he excels in football,” remarked Jason on Saturday. “Trav possesses unique qualities, and his demeanor, intelligence, and positive intentions make him enjoyable to be around. I often wish I could emulate Trav in various aspects.
