Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Nigeria visit has been a success so far as the people have welcomed them with open arms.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been mobbed by excited crowds during their tour of Nigeria, with the Duke of Sussex being part of a special volleyball match.

Harry’s Nigeria Unconquered team played the Chief of Defence staff’s own squad for an Invictus Games match today in Abuja, the capital, with the Prince himself even taking part.

Sadly for Harry his team, made up exclusively of wounded military personnel, lost 25-21 as he and Meghan took in the game from the sidelines. But he could be seen to be copying his older brother, the Prince of Wales.

That’s because just yesterday Prince William took was taking part in a volleyball match thousands of miles away as he joined in the fun while on an official visit to Cornwall.

But it was Meghan who has so far been the main attraction in the West African country, as she revealed previously she is 43 percent of Nigerian heritage.

London-based Nigerian Michela Rituc told the Daily Mail: “When she announced her heritage, I already knew it, you can just tell from the mother’s face and the grandmother’s face, definitely eastern Nigerian.

“The features say it all and the whole country melted when she said it, she is our daughter, our daughter and we couldn’t be happier.

“We have always loved Meghan, ever since we saw her in Suits and we are so happy she has come home to visit us.”

Some in the country have joked that Harry “owes us dowry” due to a tradition in which a husband will pay his wife’s family money before they marry.

The couple were both dressed to cope with the 35C heat and humidity, with Meghan wowing onlookers in a £2,275 Joanna Ortiz Tropicana Nights dress featuring a black and white palm leaves pattern.

Harry looked casual in a dark polo top and trousers with a green and white scarf draped around his neck, the colours of the Nigerian flag, as he cheered on his team at the Officers Mess.

The Duchess posed for several selfies with her fans, at one point becoming lost in the crowd as some were even reduced to tears by seeing her.

A source close to the couple told MailOnline: “They are so happy to be in Nigeria and having a great time. Everyone has been so welcoming towards them and they are really feeling the warmth of the people.

“As far as they are concerned it’s been a fantastic trip and they couldn’t be happier.”

On Sunday the pair will travel to Lagos, Nigeria’s biggest city, to watch a basketball match and attend a fundraising event at the city’s polo ground.

Then on Monday they will travel back to California to be reunited with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with Meghan sadly missing out on Mother’s Day in the US this year.

Eerie photos capture crumbling state of Prince Andrew’s home – but he still won’t leave

King Charles has reportedly threatened to cut ties completely with his brother, Prince Andrew, as he refuses to move into Harry and Meghan’s old house, Frogmore Cottage

Photographs capture the crumbling state of Prince Andrew’s home – Royal Lodge – but the Duke of York is refusing to move.

The duke has become a prisoner of his own pride in the property, sources claim, and King Charles is reportedly not willing to continue to fund his brother’s lifestyle.

But Andrew, 64, is understood to have refused to accept his brother’s offer he move from Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park in Berkshire to Frogmore Cottage, just five miles away. Frogmore used to be Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s property until they left the UK for a new life in the US.

Now, photographs show Royal Lodge, capturing its tired and crumbling walls. Moss is seen on the structure and paint is peeling away. Scaffolding has been seen at the front of the property, where a skip full of rubble was also spotted.

The site of homes since the 17th century, the present structure dates from the 19th century, and was expanded in the 1930s.

A friend of King Charles said: “As things stand, life at Royal Lodge is set to become increasingly cold and uncomfortable for the duke. The only question now is when he will realise that he has become a prisoner of his own pride — and that handing back the keys will afford him far greater comfort, and the continued support of his family.”

Andrew was forced to step down from royal duties amid the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. He quit public life in November 2019, admitting it had “become clear [that] my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work.”

And a source close to the royal family told The Times Andrew is taking “longer than desirable to recognise the reality of the situation”. They added: “If he doesn’t agree to move to a property better suited to his needs, then the King may have to reconsider the levels of support he is willing to provide.”

The latest opinion poll revealed Prince Andrew to be the least popular member of the royal family by far. The YouGov survey showed the duke was popular with only 9 per cent of people, while 76 per cent said they disliked him.

Charles has previously claimed his brother should move to nearby Frogmore Cottage — Prince Harry and Meghan’s former home. The monarch’s wish for Andrew to downsize came as he reportedly cut his £250,000 annual allowance that he had been previously provided with by the late Queen Elizabeth.

‘Unimpressed’ Meghan Markle got ‘dressing down’ by Queen over one remark

Meghan Markle is said to have been taken to one side by the Queen during a taste-testing event ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018

An “unimpressed” Meghan Markle is said to have received a dressing down by the late Queen for her actions at a food tasting event prior to her wedding to Prince Harry.

The former Suits star is alleged to have been unhappy while taste-testing for her wedding in 2018 and is said to have let her feelings be known. It’s reported the now Duchess of Sussex got “very upset” after saying she “felt that she could taste egg” in one of the dishes that had been prepared.

Explaining the scenario, a royal author claims Meghan was told there was no egg in the dish, but she didn’t believe them. Instead, Meghan allegedly hit back: “No, I can taste it.”

Speaking of the apparent altercation, royal author Katie Nicholl claimed to Yahoo’s Royal Box that Queen Elizabeth II then intervened. She claims the late monarch, who died in 2022, walked into the room at Windsor Castle and “quietly took Meghan to the side”. She allegedly told Meghan “the Royal Family does not speak to people like that”.

The resurfaced alleged comments come after the First Lady of Nigeria was forced to speak out on apparent criticism she made of Meghan during the Sussex’s trip to Nigeria last month. Reports said Oluremi Tinubu had berated Meghan for dressing indecently as she gave a speech at an event to mark President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office.

However, the country’s First Lady has since denied this was the case. She clarified that her comments were actually aimed at young Nigerian women. The TV station that filmed the speech also denied that Tinubu had reprimanded Meghan. Tinubu’s office said the comments, which were reported following a video shared on social media, had been taken out of context. They told AFP Fact Check: “She meant Meghan appreciates the people we are and hence her coming here. At no point did she say anything about Meghan’s dressing.”

The comments in question had saw Tinubu say: “The message here is we have to salvage our children. We see the way they dress. They keep forgetting that Nigeria, we are beautiful. You can see what they showcase on the stage, I said, ‘We are fashionable, we see what is going on’.

“We are not having the Met Gala. And everyone, the nakedness, is just everywhere and the men are well-clothed. So we have to do something. Tell them we don’t accept nakedness in our culture. That is not beautiful. It’s not beautiful at all.

“And they’re all beautiful girls, but they should be confident in who they are. They do not want to mimic and try to emulate film stars from America. They don’t know where they come from. Why did Meghan come here looking for Africa? That is something we have to take home with. We know who we are. Don’t lose who you are.”

Inside Charles and David Beckham’s secret Highgrove meeting as King battles cancer

Former England star David Beckham has become an ambassador for the King’s Foundation, King Charles’ charity which supports people to make the most of their community

Candid photographs capture the heartwarming moment King Charles bonded with David Beckham at Highgrove Estate – and the monarch made the former footballer ambassador for his charity.

Despite battling cancer, King Charles, 75, took the time to host the former England captain and give him a tour around the sprawling home and 15-acre gardens in Gloucestershire last month. The pair shared beekeeping tips as Beckham, 49, developed an interest in the quirky pastime during the Covid lockdown.

And charming pictures, released this week, show Beckham laughing and smiling with an equally relaxed and cheerful King. It has now emerged the jovial meeting was one of Charles’s first duties back at work after his cancer diagnosis. However, it happened around the time Prince Harry was on a brief visit to the UK – as part of his Invictus Games tour – but was unable to meet his father.

Nevertheless, the monarch highlighted the importance of the tete-a-tete with Becks, who played for his country for 13 years, as he made him ambassador for the King’s Foundation. The charity, established in 1986 when Charles was Prince of Wales, is run from Dumfries House in Scotland. It aims to support “sustainable communities” and spearheads education courses for young people, often with a focus on rural skills.

Beckham, who is the first ambassador to be named by the charity since Charles was crowned, said: “I’m excited to be working with the King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity’s work. I’ve always been keen to help young people to expand their horizons and I’m particularly looking forward to supporting the foundation’s education programmes and its efforts to ensure young people have greater access to nature.

The former Manchester United star has in the past expressed his desire to receive a knighthood. He was snubbed in December, despite playing 115 times for England and scoring 17 goals, winning 19 major trophies in his career, and since doing charity work.

But the charity appointment is a boost for the sports star, born in Leytonstone, east London, and sources believe King Charles values his friendship and input to the foundation highly. Last year, Beckham gave Charles a jar of his homemade honey – and the King, who has kept beehives at his royal estates, joked at the time: “We shall have to do a swap.”

Speaking about his new role, father-of-four Beckham said: “It was inspiring to hear from the King about His Majesty’s foundation during my visit to Highgrove Gardens and compare beekeeping tips.

“Having developed a love for the countryside, I’m also on a personal mission to learn more about rural skills which are so central to the foundation’s work.”

DON’T MISSBecks will promote awareness of the charity by supporting campaigns and attending events, including the upcoming King’s Foundation Awards. He will also likely share updates about the foundation’s work to his 87.8 million Instagram followers.

The King’s Foundation, renamed to reflect Charles’s accession, is reshaping its image after its former chief executive, the King’s long-time aide Michael Fawcett, was forced to step down over a scandal involving donations from a foreign tycoon.

Two staff members were questioned by police after the mainstream media exposed the scandal, but last year the investigation was closed with no charges brought.

During his Highgrove visit, the football star, who received the OBE in 2003, was also introduced to students at Highgrove, whose tuition fees and materials are covered by foundation scholarships.

His footballer career saw Beckham score 97 goals in domestic matches across 21 years, including 62 for Manchester United and 18 for LA Galaxy in the US. The midfielder was hailed as one of the best free-kick takers of all time, and received praise for his excellent crossing and passing abilities.

Beckham married Victoria Adams, nicknamed Posh Spice, in 1999 and they have four children, including Brooklyn and Romeo. As of May 2019, the couple’s joint wealth is estimated at £355 million. She too has joined her husband in charity and business ventures over the years.

  • Meghan Markle ‘never understood her Royal role’ claims expert

Meghan Markle ‘never understood her Royal role’ claims expert

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped back as senior royals in March 2020, less than two years after their fairytale wedding at Windsor Castle – and it’s been claimed Meghan was never fully prepared for the role

During her stint as a senior royal, Meghan Markle was actively involved with numerous charities and spearheaded several key initiatives. Her focus areas included mental health, women’s rights, animal welfare, and community cohesion. Despite The Duchess of Sussex’s keen interest in charitable work, her relatively short tenure within the Royal family surprised many observers some suggest her exit was influenced by misunderstandings about her role.

Former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond shared her insights with OK! stating: “I have always held the view that Meghan failed to understand that she would never be the top dog in the Royal Family… or even the deputy top dog.”

Jennie further commented: “There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be in complete control and charge of your life. There’s nothing wrong with seeking the limelight. It’s just that the Royal Family was the wrong vehicle for her ambitions.”

However, Jennie also shed light on what truly drives Meghan, which might not align with public perception.

Royal expert Jennie Bond has weighed in on Meghan's true aspirations as she doesn't believe she 'craves a superstar profile'

“I’m not sure she craves a superstar profile,” Jennie noted. “In fact she’s been quite low-key in recent times, presumably enjoying her family life in California. But she has projects in the pipeline with her website and I’m sure she will enjoy being in control of every detail.”

“She is an independent woman with strong views and she is perfectly entitled to deploy her skills in any way she wants.”

Jennie’s comments come after a commentator pointed out that Meghan seemed more inclined towards a life under the public eye, unlike Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie who have chosen a more “quiet” existence.

Jane Barr, writing in the From Berkshire to Buckingham newsletter, argued that the concept of Harry and Meghan being “half in, half out” in terms of their Royal responsibilities simply wouldn’t have been feasible. She suggested: “She [Meghan] would not have been happy with the ultimately quiet or truly independent/non-royal lives that William and Harry’s cousins actually live.”

    Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
The Duke and Duchess recently returned from a trip to Nigeria, which was widely considered an ‘unofficial royal tour’

Jane then continued: “Looking back to Megxit, Harry was not just the grandson of the Queen, the same relationship all his cousins had to the sovereign, he was the son of the future King. William and Harry were – from birth – preeminent royals, while their cousins, although celebrated, surely, began as secondary royals and only continued to fade as the years went by.

“Harry seems so bitter about being the spare, but he has always been quite senior to his cousins, and treated accordingly.”

She elaborated, pointing out that unlike Beatrice and Eugenie who maintain regular jobs without high-profile deals, “Meghan wanted to take her HRH and her title and be a superstar in her own sphere on the international stage.”

Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe also recently suggested that Meghan is overshadowing her husband, fitting into Harry’s tendency to play “second fiddle”.

Speaking to OK! earlier this month, he said: “Meghan is a very strong character, very driven, extremely ambitious, and those are the kind of characteristics that mean she will almost always inevitably outshine Harry and grab the attention from him. Harry is entirely in her shadow. But he’s never really been at ease with the attention, he’s never really enjoyed it.”

Duncan then added: “Whether it’s deliberate or not, Meghan is definitely a magnet for attention. Although we saw a huge amount of money spent on her combined outfits for Nigeria so maybe it’s not a complete accident that she steals the limelight. Their Nigeria trip was ‘The Meghan Show’ and Harry was the side.”.

Prince Harry asked for ‘secret meeting’ with King Charles and William over ‘the state of things’

Prince Harry said he arranged a ‘secret meeting’ with Prince William and King Charles in April 2021, one month after he and Meghan Markle were interviewed by Oprah Winfrey

Prince Harry said he asked for a “secret meeting” with his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William, to discuss “the state of things” when he travelled to the UK to attend Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021.

The Duke of Sussex wrote in his memoir, ‘Spare’, that when he flew back to London to attend his grandfather’s funeral, he also thought it could be a good time to meet his father and brother for a chat. It was the first time Harry travelled England since he and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals and moved to the US, where they now live with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

It was also the first time Harry met his family since he and the Duchess of Sussex took part in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, during which they shared details of their struggles within the Royal Family and opened up on the reasons that brought them to step away and move to another country. In his book, which was published in January 2023, Harry admitted he felt anxious, while waiting for William and Charles to arrive at their meeting – and at some point, he thought they had changed their mind and would no longer meet him.

However, he said that at some point he saw his father and brother with a “grim, almost menacing” look as they headed towards him. The Duke recalled that when he gave them “a weak smile”, they did not smile back, which made him feel “a hugely intense vulnerability” and made him think of his late mum, Princess Diana, with the hope she could give him strength during the meeting.

Harry revealed that when he said hello to his brother “Willy” and his father, whom he affectionately called “Pa”, they replied with a single and “painfully tepid” word: “Harold.” Harry wrote: “At last, I saw them. Shoulder to shoulder, striding towards me, they looked grim, almost menacing. More, they looked tightly aligned. My stomach dropped. Normally they’d be squabbling about one thing or another, but now they appeared to be in lockstep – in league. The thought occurred: Hang on, are we meeting for a walk…or a duel?

‌”I rose from the wooden bench, made a tentative step towards them, gave a weak smile. They didn’t smile back. Now my heart really started thrashing in my chest. Deep breaths, I told myself. Apart from fear, I was feeling a kind of hyper-awareness, and a hugely intense vulnerability, which I’d experienced at other key moments of my life. Walking behind my mother’s coffin. Going into battle for the first time. Giving a speech in the middle of a panic attack.

‌”There was that same sense of embarking on a quest, and not knowing if I was up to it, while also fully knowing that there was no turning back. That Fate was in the saddle. OK, Mummy, I thought, picking up the pace, here goes. Wish me luck. We met in the middle of the path. Willy? Pa? Hello. Harold. Painfully tepid.”

In the book, Harry also revealed that he got the nickname “Spare” by his father, Charles. Harry revealed that after Princess Diana gave birth to him, his dad said: “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare – my work is done.”

The Guardian newspaper noted that Prince Harry has always felt resentful of his nickname, and aired his frustration in his memoir. The newspaper said: “Harry’s resentment of being the ‘spare’ is the underlying theme of his book, through chapters on his childhood, his schooling, his career as a royal and in the British Army, his relationship with his parents and brother, and his life with Meghan through courtship, wedding and marriage, to their own experience of parenthood. ”

David Beckham and the King compared “beekeeping tips” when they met ahead of the ex-England football captain being named a King’s Foundation ambassador.

The former sporting star was confirmed as an official supporter of Charles’s charitable organisation a few weeks after he reportedly met the monarch privately to learn more about its work.

Beckham said: “I’m excited to be working with the King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity’s work. In photographs released to mark the announcement, Beckham is pictured with the King on the doorstep of Highgrove, Charles’s Gloucestershire retreat, and shown trying out his carpentry skills with foundation students taking part in woodworking courses at the Snowdon School of Furniture.

The foundation is the custodian of the Highgrove gardens and offers workshops, programmes and short courses focused on heritage and craft skills at its Barley Court education centre on the estate.

Alongside its education programmes to protect traditional skills, the foundation, based at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire, aims to revitalise communities through urban regeneration and planning, and support sustainable food production and teach rural skills.

Since reportedly buying a converted barn in the Cotswolds, Beckham has posted on social media about his bee keeping. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle blasted as ‘exploitative’ as couple have ‘lost trust’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “upset” the late Queen Elizabeth II and now no one trusts them, a royal commentator claimed.

Piers Morgan says royal family doesn’t ‘trust’ Harry and Meghan

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been branded “exploitative” by a royal commentator, who claimed the pair have lost everyone’s “trust”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex allegedly hurt the feelings of the late Queen Elizabeth after they reportedly decided to name their youngest daughter Lilibet without her permission.

Lilibet was the late monarch’s nickname, which was only used by close family members.

Now royal expert Phil Dampier hit out at the couple and their “exploitative” methods and touched down on the late Queen’s refusal to have her photograph with her great-grandchild.

He told The Sun: “I don’t think she [Queen Elizabeth] was very pleased that it was presented to her as a fate of conflict that the name Lilibet was chosen in the first place, I think she was a little bit upset by that.

He added: “Even if the Queen might have been, you know, struggling with her health, I think she was still sharp as a tack and she realised that any photograph that was taken of her with Lilibet could have been exploited.

“So yes she put her foot down and said no photographs and I must admit, I don’t blame her, but it’s sad we’ve never seen one.”

The expert went on to claim that the royals now fear that anything relating to the Sussexes will end up being published.

He explained: “The big fear that the late Queen had and that the King now has is that when [Harry and Meghan] turn up, they do tend to turn up with a sort of Netflix film crew or a photographer in tow.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have faced persistent demands for them to be stripped of their titles after stepping down from their institutional roles.

Meghan Markle would still be entitled to use a royal style even if the King decided to remove her Duchess of Sussex title.

Since Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties, there have been sporadic demands to strip them of their royal titles.

Accusations of the royal household leaking stories about them, as well as their business deals with major corporations like Netflix and Spotify, have led some critics to accuse the couple of capitalising on their royal status.

Recently, the pair launched a new website featuring Meghan’s royal coat of arms, and the Duchess has also unveiled her latest business venture – American Riveria Orchard, which is branded “by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex” on its official Instagram and website.

However, even if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles were officially removed Meghan would still hold a royal title, albeit an unusual one, as one royal expert noted.

As Harry is a prince by birth, if his Dukedom – bestowed upon him by the late Queen Elizabeth at his wedding to Meghan – were revoked, he would still be a prince, and Meghan would be known as Princess Henry.

This mirrors another royal, Princess Michael of Kent, who also adopts the feminine form of her husband’s title, in line with tradition, as she married into the Royal Family and Prince Michael does not hold another title.

Royal commentator Ingrid Seward weighed in on the debate surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s titles, saying, “I don’t think anything will happen to the titles because, if they lose their titles, Harry is still a prince of the blood, and Meghan, instead of being the Duchess of Sussex, [would] be Princess Henry.

“That really would [confuse the Americans]. I think [it’s] probably best just to leave it because it looks unkind, it looks unnecessary.”

Seward added: “The Queen gave them the titles, let them keep them – they’re going to be ‘H and M’ anyway.

“I think the best thing is to leave them, ignore them, and let them get on with it – which is really what the Palace and the Royal Family are doing.”

Despite Prince Harry losing the ‘His Royal Highness’ style after stepping back from royal duties, as did Meghan, he remains a prince by birth.

With Charles ascending to the throne, Archie and Lilibet are now entitled to use the titles Prince and Princess as well.

In addition to the blow removing Harry and Meghan’s titles would be to to King’s already-struggling relationship with the pair, the process would also come with a lengthy process.

Under current regulation, an Act of Parliament would need to be tabled requesting the pair be stripped of their titles.

The proposed act would have to clear the legislative process before the King was able to give assent and proceed with the removal of the titles.

Sean Ono Lennon took to social media to share his “long-awaited” remarks about Prince Harry’s bombshell 2023 memoir, Spare.

The book, which quickly became a bestseller, shared a raw insight into his upbringing in the Royal Family and the hardships he endured growing up in the spotlight.

Although the record-breaking book received mixed reviews, Sean revealed he was unimpressed as she shared his thoughts on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

The son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono told his 365,500 followers: “My long-awaited review of Prince Harry’s autobiography is two words. ‘Spare Me.’”

However, after an onslaught of backlash the 48-year-old quickly doubled down on his comments with different posts.

Sean wrote: “I do empathize with him generally. But the way he whines and wangs on about things is really too much.

“I’m just having a little fun. I think he’s earned some mockery. (I’m sure I have as well).”

The songwriter also noted that while he is “aware” of what he and Prince Harry have in common, he considers the Royal an “idiot” and a “buffoon.”

“I do [empathize with him]. … [That’s] why I’m very disappointed with his outlook. I was hoping he’d be smarter.”

He then responded to a Sussex fan who claimed that he “based his whole life on his father’s success,” and another who suggested he was jealous of Harry’s success.

Sean hit back: “I mean, I don’t care but I did win an Oscar this year so…I think I’m doing okay.

In March, he won the highly coveted trophy for Best Animated Short Film, which was awarded for “War Is Over! Inspired by the Music of John & Yoko.”

The 48-year-old co-wrote the film alongside director Dave Mullins.
