The Royal Family’s official social media channels and public communications may prioritise significant public events, official duties, and milestones over personal celebrations of extended family members.

In the past year alone, the Firm has chosen not to publicly mark the birthdays of non-working royals – such as Lilibet and her brother, Prince Archie.

Princess Lilibet, daughter of Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, is set to celebrate her third birthday tomorrow on Tuesday, June 4. She is most likely to mark her birthday at her home in California with her parents.

However, Harry and Meghan haven’t publicly acknowledged their children’s birthdays on social media for several years and royal fans will also notice that the Royal Family haven’t either – according to US Weekly, the real reason is that there is “no protocol” to wish non-working members of the Firm birthday wishes.

However, the Royal Family did publicly mark Lilibet’s first birthday in June 2022. At the time, the official X account of the Royal Family wrote: “Wishing Lilibet a very happy 1st birthday!”

The now-Prince and Princess of Wales also sent their niece special birthday wishes on X, tweeting: “Wishing a very happy birthday to Lilibet, turning one today!”

But the British royal family’s decision not to publicly mark Princess Lilibet’s birthday likely stems from a combination of factors related to family dynamics, public roles, and privacy preferences.

For instance, given the strained relations between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and the rest of the Royal Family, the Firm might choose to avoid public statements that could be misinterpreted or lead to further media scrutiny.

Speaking to The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, royal expert, Phil Dampier said: “It is amazing that she’s already three but there is this underlying sadness of course because of the rift that the King is not seeing his grandchildren.”

Phil added: “I think he’s [King Charles] only met Lilibet possibly once and Archie only a couple of times and they are seventh and eighth in line to the throne, growing up in California on the West Coast of America with American accents and they just don’t see them.”

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s cousins are Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte – the three children of Prince William and Princess Kate.

During Harry and Meghan’s visit to Nigeria in May, an emotional Meghan spoke about Lilibet’s phrase that blew her away. Speaking at a panel on women’s leadership, Meghan spoke of the joys and challenges of motherhood and while at the school, she took the opportunity to share an anecdote about her daughter Lilibet.

She said: “Our daughter, Lili, she’s much, much tinier than you guys. She’s about to turn three, and a few weeks ago she looked at me and she would just see the reflection in my eyes.”

In a touching moment, Lilibet said to Meghan: “Mama, I see me in you.”

The Duchess of Sussex shared the anecdote with crowds as she embarked on a quick-fire 72-hour tour of Nigeria with Harry to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

Meghan Markle has made a huge decision about her kids Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet following her ‘home’ Nigeria trip.

Meghan has disclosed her decision in a letter to Oluwu of Iso, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi of Nigeria.

Prince Harry’s sweetheart reveals that she was extending her Nigeria ‘heritage’ to her children Archie and Lilibet.

She also vowed to visit Nigeria with her kids and husband Prince Harry in future.

Meghan’s letter reads, “Your Imperial Majesty, Thank you for your warm welcome to Nigeria… Our visit to Nigeria was important for many reasons, but not least because it gave us an opportunity to explore and understand my heritage, which extends to our children. We look forward to coming back home one day.”

The former Suits star discovered through a DNA test in 2022 that she is 43 percent Nigerian.

Meghan was thrilled to learn about her “heritage”, which she can now share with her children.

The Duchess decision has come after a source told Closer recently: “Meghan is longing for another baby and is convinced that a third child will help get her and Harry back on track after a rocky few months.”

Meghan and Harry ‘upset late Queen with exploitative’ ways and ‘lost trust’, says expert

The Duke and Duchess’ Netflix projects, interviews and comments have reportedly made the royal family wary as they ‘do not trust’ them, which is how Queen Elizabeth II also felt before her death

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were ‘exploitative’ in the run up to Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022 and have ‘lost the trust of the royal family’, according to an expert.

Phil Dampier has revealed that the Duke and Duchess have been marked by the royal family as ones ‘not to trust’, as they fear that being around Harry and Meghan means they will end up being featured in their Netflix programmes or in another project they’re working on.

The couple are also thought to have worried the late Queen Elizabeth so much, that she avoided any public photographs with them or their children Prince Archie or Princess Lilibet.

Phil Dampier, who spoke to The Sun, explained: “The big fear that the late Queen had and that the King now has is that when [Harry and Meghan] turn up, they do tend to turn up with a sort of Netflix film crew or a photographer in tow. You always get the feeling that whatever happens, whatever the discussions are, that it’s going to sooner or later end up on a programme or in some sort of podcast. And that’s unfortunately where the trust has gone and they just don’t trust [Harry].”

Dampier also explained that she was aware, right up until her death, that any photographs of her alongside the Duke and Duchess of Sussex or their children could have been “exploited”, and as a result chose not to be pictured publicly with them.

The comments come as Harry and Meghan are both focused on their current projects with Netflix. In 2020, the couple signed a reported $100million (£78.6million) deal with Netflix, which is due to expire next year in 2025. Since they signed with the streaming platform, Harry and Meghan have worked on several projects including their six-part docuseries, which featured many controversial comments about the royal family and their experience as royals.

Now Harry is working on a documentary series looking at the sport of polo with Meghan focusing on a lifestyle and cookery show, which is thought to tie into her new American Riviera Orchard brand. However it’s thought that interest in the former royals might be waning, as royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told The Mirror: “Yet since their $100 million contract with Netflix began, they have done hardly anything for it. It runs out next year and Netflix are no longer producing the series of The Crown, as they previously were. They might therefore have less interest in the Sussexes.”

He added: “If they lost this contract, with Archewell, their business and charitable foundation, having so few donors, they might well be in financial trouble. Since their exposes of royal life has made megabucks, but little else has made money, the Royal Family better hope that this unpredictable and ruthlessly ambitious couple stays with Netflix.”

The Mirror has reached out to The Sussex’s representatives for comment on this story.

EXCLUSIVE: Prince Harry in ‘sad reminder from Prince William that he has no relationship with George’

After Prince William said Prince George would like to become a pilot, Prince Harry has been reminded ‘of everything he is missing’, claims royal author and expert Tom Quinn

Prince Harry has received a “sad reminder” from his brother, Prince William, that he has “no relationship at all” with his nephew, Prince George, a royal author has claimed.

The Prince of Wales revealed that his son, who is second in line to the throne, is a “potential pilot in the making” and could follow in his father’s footsteps, as William worked as an air ambulance pilot in East Anglia when he was younger. George’s passion could also have similarities to that of his uncle, Harry, who served as an Apache helicopter pilot during one of his tours of Afghanistan.

But according to royal author and expert Tom Quinn, William’s hints at his son’s future career path will remind Harry “of everything he is missing” while his relationship with the Royal Family remains strained. The expert told The Mirror: “William’s hints that his son George might follow in his footsteps and become a pilot will certainly remind Harry of everything he is missing – after all Harry was himself a helicopter pilot and would love to entertain his nephew with tales of his own time in the air.

“It’s a sad reminder that he has no relationship at all with George.” William revealed his son’s passion for planes during a chat with Reverend Squadron Leader Chrissie Lacey at a garden party at Buckingham Palace last week.

William also revealed his 10-year-old son would love to visit the RAF Coningsby base in Norfolk, as he is a “potential pilot in the making”. Back in 2017, when George was just a toddler, he visited Germany and Poland with his parents, and at the end of the trip, the young prince was spotted getting seriously excited over helicopters at Hamburg Airport.

“George was excited, with the first helicopter he wanted to sit in the cockpit, and then he wanted to sit in the next one, he already knew there was a difference between them,” Antoine van Gent, who was present, revealed to the Telegraph. William even showed George the basics of how one would be flown and the young royal was reportedly allowed to try a helmet on.

Last weekend, George attended the FA Cup final with his father William. He joined the Prince of Wales at the highly-anticipated match between Manchester City and Manchester United. The pair were seen in the crowd at Wembley Stadium this afternoon.

George looked elegant in a blue suit as he sat next to his dad in the stands. The son and father duo are both are passionate Aston Villa fans and William, 42, regularly attends the FA Cup final. He also joined his father at a football game on April 12, as they watched Aston Villa play Lille in the first leg of the Europa Conference League quarter-final. George wore a Villa-branded scarf as the pair applauded and smiled as their team secured a 2-1 victory.

It marked their first public appearance since the Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis in March and royal fans will welcome the sight of father and son watching a pinnacle event in the football calendar. George is known to be a keen football fan and in 2020 he beamed with joy following Luke Shaw’s opener in the Euro final, as he attended the match with his parents.

The then seven-year-old cheered and laughed with her parents as soon as the goal was scored. But sadly his happiness didn’t last the length of the match as England lost the match 3-2 to penalties after Italy equalised midway through the second half.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has vowed to return ‘home’ to Nigeria with her husband Prince Harry and their two children, Archie, five, and Lilibet, who turns three on Tuesday

Meghan Markle has expressed her eagerness to return “home” to Nigeria in the future.

The former actress, who discovered through a DNA test in 2022 that she is 43 percent Nigerian, recently visited the country with her husband, Prince Harry. She was thrilled to learn about her “heritage”, which she can now share with her children, five year old Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who turns three on Tuesday.

In a letter obtained by the Western Post, Meghan wrote to the Oluwu of Iso, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi: “Your Imperial Majesty, Thank you for your warm welcome to Nigeria… Our visit to Nigeria was important for many reasons, but not least because it gave us an opportunity to explore and understand my heritage, which extends to our children. During her meeting with the Oluwu – a traditional ruler in Nigerian society – he bestowed upon Meghan the traditional Yoruba name of Adetokunbo. She confessed to being “deeply humbled” by his blessing.

In her letter, she added: “I am deeply humbled by your blessing of the traditional Yoruba name, Adetokunbo. I treasure the name and appreciate your trust in me to carry it with grace and dignity.”

The 42-year-old duchess has previously admitted that she will always hold dear her memories from her trip to Nigeria. She shared with People magazine: “It was such warm hospitality and it was a really meaningful trip. It was incredibly memorable and special. That alone is the best souvenir to take with us – all the memories we’ve made.”

A key aspect of their journey was to promote the Invictus Games – a tournament established by Harry for wounded and injured veterans – and the Duke of Sussex expressed that it was “hugely important” for him and his wife to “meet directly” with individuals as they strive to instigate “positive change” globally.

He stated: “Always nice to be on the move, in a sense, but also these trips are about us being able to go out and focus on the things that mean so much to us and support the causes that are close to our heart. And being able to be on the ground that, to us, is what it’s all about.”

“It is hugely important for us to meet directly with people, supporting our causes and listening, in order to bring about solutions, support and positive change. There’s only so much one can do from home and over Zoom, so we look forward to traveling more because the work matters.”

Meghan Markle claims that Sarah Ferguson taught her how to curtsey slammed as huge lie

The Duchess of Sussex has previously claimed that she ‘didn’t know what she was doing’ the first time she had to learn to curtsey as she met the Queen in 2016. However, it’s been revealed she’s previously performed the move in the legal drama Suits

Meghan Markle’s anecdote about how she was hurriedly taught how to curtsey for the Queen by Sarah Ferguson has been slammed by critics as a lie.

The former Suits actress has been ‘outed’ by royal critics, after a scene from the legal drama has emerged showing the Duchess of Sussex bobbing into a curtsey years before she met and wed Prince Harry.

However, the actress has claimed she was taught to curtsey in her Netflix series alongside husband Prince Harry, as they discussed the moment that Meghan met Harry’s grandmother the Queen.

In the docuseries, Meghan explained: “I mean. it’s surreal. There wasn’t like some big moment of ‘Now you’re gonna meet my grandmother’. I didn’t know I was going to meet her until moments before. We were in the car and we were going to the Royal Lodge for lunch, and he [Harry] was like, ‘Oh, my grandmother is here, she’s gonna be there after church.’ I remember we were in the car, driving and he’s [Harry] like, ‘You know how to curtsy, right?’. And I just thought it was a joke.”

Prince Harry added: “How do you explain that to people? How do you explain that you bow to your grandmother? And that you would need to curtsy, especially to an American. That’s weird.”

The couple then continue as they speak to the camera, and Meghan continued: “Now I’m starting to realise this is a big deal. I mean, Americans will understand this. We have Medieval Times dinner and tournament. It was like that. Like, I curtsied as though I was like… ‘Pleasure to meet you your Majesty.’ It was so intense. And then when she left, Eugenie and Jack and Fergie say ‘you did great!’. Thanks. I didn’t know what I was doing.”

Harry also claims that Meghan was ‘taught’ how to curtsey by his aunt Sarah, as he wrote in his 2023 memoir ‘Spare’ that when learning Meghan might meet his grandmother the Queen, he asked if she knew how to curtsey to which the Suits actress responded saying she ‘thought so’. Turning to relatives, Harry asked his aunt Sarah Ferguson to help alongside cousin Eugenie and her husband Jack Brookbanks. He wrote:”Fergie came outside, somewhat aflutter, and said: Do you know how to curtsy? Meg shook her head. Fergie demonstrated once. Meg imitated her.”

Yet after claims in their Netflix series and in Harry’s autobiography that this was the moment Meghan learned how to curtsey, critics have slammed it as a lie as they point out a scene from Suits where Meghan is seen to be curtseying. After the clip was shared on social media, one fan branded her “a fraud”. Another savagely said: “Come on guys! She “forgot” she had curtsied in the show. Just like she “forgot” she dictated the book to Omid.”

In less than three weeks, one of both Prince William and Prince Harry’s closest friends will tie the knot in the social event of the season.

Billionaire Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, and his fiance, Olivia Henson are set to wed on June 7 in Chester, in England’s north-west, in front of the who’s-who of British aristocracy.

Just as conspicuous as the future King’s appearance at the event will be his brother’s absence – and new details have shed light on exactly how the awkward invitation scenario played out behind the scenes.

The UK’s Times revealed on Sunday that not only is William attending as a guest – with his wife, the Princess of Wales, likely to stay home amid her cancer treatment – but he has also been honoured with a role as an usher on the day.

Meanwhile, Harry, who has been close friends with Hugh – or “Hughie” as he’s known within his inner circle – since childhood and even appointed him as his son Prince Archie’s godfather, was reportedly kept from the guest list to avoid any discomfort.

(Sources close to Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have previously disputed their lack of invitation, insisting that they had received a “save the date card” but declined attendance as it would be “too awkward”.)

According to the Times, Hugh had been keen on both brothers coming to his nuptials, but was conscious that their high-profile rift could overshadow the festivities, and had therefore deciding against inviting the Sussexes.

When their looming absence was first reported last year, a friend of the warring brothers described the situation as “incredibly sad”.

“It’s incredibly sad it has come to this. Hugh is one of the very few close friends of William and Harry’s who has maintained strong bonds and a line of communication with both,” the source told the Times.

“He wishes they could put their heads together and patch things up, but realises it’s unlikely to happen before the wedding. He wanted to avoid anything overshadowing the day, especially for Olivia, and doesn’t want any awkwardness.”

There’s been no sign of any easing of tension between Harry and William, with the latter reportedly still furious about his brother’s heavy public criticism of himself and Kate since leaving royal duties.

Meanwhile, Harry’s absence at the Duke of Westminster’s wedding may be the most high-profile, but he’s not the only royal unable to attend.

King Charles, who is the duke’s godfather, is also likely to skip the occasion. The monarch, who recently returned to public-facing engagements during his cancer treatment, will be travelling to France alongside Queen Camilla and William for D-Day commemorations the day prior.

Regardless, it’s still on track to be a lavish event, with over 400 guests invited to witness the nuptials at Chester Cathedral.

Following the service, guests will attend an opulent reception at the Grosvenors’ nearby 11,000-acre estate, Eaton Hall, the couples’ new home.

On June 8, a second, more intimate reception will be held at the same venue.

BREAKING : King Charles in tears after former Loyal worker told what really killed Prince Harry and Williams Mother Diana

In the years following Princess Diana’s fatal car crash on August 31, 1997, her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, remained notably silent about her tragic death, refusing to make any sort of official statement about their grief. But in recent years, the boys have started to open up about their mother to the press. With the arrival of The Crown’s sixth season, which features the tragedy, we’re taking a look back at how her sons have publicly reflected on Diana, and how they plan to continue her legacy.

In 2017, Diana’s sons used the HBO documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, as a platform to open up about what it was like to lose her at such a young age.

For the young princes—William, then age 15, and Harry, then age 12—their last interaction with their mother came in the form of a phone conversation—something that had become a nightly occurrence after Diana’s split with Prince Charles.

“I can’t really, necessarily, remember what I said,” Harry said in Diana, Our Mother. “But all I do remember is probably, you know, regretting for the rest of my life how short the phone call was. And if I’d known that was the last time I was going to speak to my mother—the things I would have said to her.”

When news of Diana’s death reached her family, William and Harry were devastated. “There’s nothing like it in the world,” William said. “There really isn’t. It’s like an earthquake has just run through the house and through your life and everything. Your mind is completely split. And it took me a while for it to actually sink in.”

Just a few days later, on September 6, an estimated 2.5 billion people around the world watched Diana’s funeral, as a young William and Harry stoically walked behind her cortège.

In a 2017 interview with Newsweek, Harry explained how difficult it was for him to handle the news of his mother’s death. “My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television,” said Harry. “I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don’t think it would happen today.”

Immediately following Diana’s death, the royal family made attempts to engage the young princes in conversation about their mother’s passing. “The family came together and Harry and I tried to talk as best we could about it,” William said in the documentary. “But being so small at that age, it was very difficult to communicate or understand your feelings. It’s…it’s very complicated.”

For young Prince Harry, tears over his mother’s passing were put on hold in favor of shock. At only 12 years old, he couldn’t understand how his mother—who took him to soccer games and snuck him out every now and then for a burger or a movie—could mean so much to so many people he’d never even met.

“It was very, very strange after her death, you know, the sort of outpouring of love and emotion from so many people that had never even met her,” Harry said in Diana, Our Mother. “… And I was thinking to myself, how is it that so many people that never even met this woman, my mother, can be crying and showing more emotion than I actually am feeling?”

Diana was buried on a small island in the middle of the Oval Lake at the Althorp Estate, her family home. “The first time I cried was at the funeral on the island…and only since then, maybe once,” Harry said in the documentary. “So, you know, there’s a lot of grief that still needs to be let out.”

Despite their sadness, the boys had to maintain a positive public image and did their best to stay strong in the face of a world that was watching them so closely. “Slowly, you try and rebuild your life, and you try and understand what’s happened, and I kept saying to myself that, you know, my mother would not want me to be upset,” William explained in the documentary. “She’d not want me to be down. She’d not want me to be like this. I kept myself busy as well—which is good and bad sometimes—but allows you to kind of get through that initial shock phase.”

Though personal memories of their mother have faded over time, part of Diana, Our Mother centered around William and Harry looking through old photo albums, assembled by Diana herself.

“One of the [side effects] of grief and bereavement is that memories kind of get suppressed or obliterated, so I don’t think they knew,” director of Diana, Our Mother Ashley Gething told Vanity Fair. “And, we certainly didn’t know until we began the interview that they would be so candid. But quite quickly, when we began the interview, you could almost begin to see the memories surface.”

Specifically, one image of Diana and Harry caught the filmmakers’ attention.

“There is one photograph of Diana hugging Harry, and I think it tells you everything about their relationship,” they said.

“She would just engulf you and squeeze you as tight as possible,” Harry recalls in the documentary. “Even talking about it now, I can feel the hugs that she used to give us and, you know, I miss that. I miss that feeling. I miss that part of a family. I miss having that mother … to be able to give you those hugs and give you that compassion that I think everybody needs.”

Over the years, the loss of their mother has taken an immense toll on William and Harry. “I can safely say that losing my mum at the age of twelve, and therefore shutting down all of my emotions for the last twenty years, had had a quite serious effect not only on my personal life, but also my work as well,” Harry said in an interview in The Telegraph.

“I have probably been very close to a complete breakdown on numerous occasions, when all sorts of grief and sort of lies and misconceptions and everything are coming at you from every angle.”

In his 2023 Netflix docuseries, Heart of Invictus, Harry revealed, “My tour of Afghanistan in 2012, flying Apaches, somewhere after that there was an unraveling and the trigger to me was actually returning from Afghanistan. But the stuff that was coming up was from 1997 from the age of 12, losing my mum at such a young age, the trauma that I had I was never really aware of, it was never discussed.” He continued, “It was never discussed, I didn’t really talk about it and I suppressed it like most youngsters would have done. But when it all came fizzing out, I was bouncing off the walls. I was like, ‘What is going on here? I’m now feeling everything as opposed to being numb.’ The biggest struggle for me was no one around me really could help.”

Such a close, personal relationship with the issue of mental health inspired Prince Harry, Prince William, and Catherine, now the Princess of Wales, to form their own joint charity called Heads Together. The charity focuses on raising awareness of mental health issues and seeking treatment for the homeless, military veterans, and young people. The creation of this organization is a charitable step forward for both princes in demonstrating the empathy they inherited from their mother.

Prince William has also revealed that he does his best to keep Diana’s memory alive for his children. “We’ve got more photos around the house now of her and we talk about her a bit and stuff,” William said near the end of the documentary. “… I do regularly, putting George or Charlotte to bed, talk about her and just try and remind them that there are two grandmothers—there were two grandmothers—in their lives. And so, it’s important that they knew who she was and that she existed.”

It’s an idea that Harry has echoed with his own children—Archie and Lili (whose name carries an homage to her late grandmother.) “I got a photo of her in [Archie’s] nursery, and it was one of the first words that he said—apart from ‘mama,’ ‘papa,’ it was then ‘grandma’. Grandma Diana,” Harry said in his AppleTV+ mental health docuseries The Me You Can’t See in 2021. “It’s the sweetest thing, but at the same time, it makes me really sad because she should be here. I wish she could’ve met Meghan. I wish she was around for Archie.”

William hopes that in sharing his mother’s memory with his children, he can carry on some of what Diana taught him. “Time spent with her, the feeling of having her around, and being loved as a family—or as a son—I think those are the most precious and special memories to me,” William admits.

In late 2021, he recalled a simple, special moment with his mother, and how it has stuck with him over the years. “When I was younger, Harry and I, we were at boarding school. And my mother used to play all sorts of songs to kind of while away the anxiety of going back to school”, the prince said for an episode of Apple’s Time to Walk. “And one of the songs I massively remember and has stuck with me all this time, and I still, to this day, still quite enjoy secretly, is Tina Turner’s “The Best” because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment. And my mother, she’d be driving along, singing at the top of her voice. And we’d even get the policeman in the car, he’d be occasionally singing along, as well. You’d be singing and listening to the music right the way out into the gates of school, when they dropped you off.”

“I think she would be proud of everything Harry and I have come through, having lost her,” William said in the 2017 documentary. “And that gives me positivity and strength to know that I can face anything the world can throw at me.”

The Sussexes then boarded the British Airways overnight flight to Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. The flight was delayed as the scheduled pilot was sick and a replacement had to be found.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were sat in First Class and were kept apart from other passengers by a curtain. When they arrived in Abuja, other travellers were held back as they were escorted off the plane. Here, we look at the couple’s first 24 hours in Nigeria.

Harry and Meghan were welcomed by Nigerian officials who met them at the airport. The couple were taken out of a side door onto the jetty and into a waiting minibus.

The Sussexes were invited to the country – located on the western coast of Africa – by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who met Harry last September at the games in Düsseldorf, Germany. However, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria confirmed Harry and Meghan do not represent the UK during the trip and are not visiting the country on official business.

He said: “It’s great that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are visiting Nigeria, which I understand is at the invitation of Defence Headquarters. But they are visiting in a private capacity, not an official one.”

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, Richard added: “So, the British High Commission is not involved in arranging or facilitating their programme. They are not representing the work of His Majesty’s Government on this visit.”

Meghan smiled as she stood next to her husband as he spoke, nodding along to his comments. Harry continued to say that mental health is “still something we are relatively unsure of”. He added: “But guess what, every single person in this room, the youngest, the oldest, every single person has mental health.

“So therefore, you have to look after yourself in order to be able to help other people, other people have to look after themselves in order to be able to look after you. That’s the way it works.”

The Duke of Sussex continued: “There is no shame to be able to acknowledge that today is a bad day. Okay? If you woke up this morning feeling sad, if you left school feeling stressed, if you’ve lost a loved one in your family who you usually turn to or speak to, all of these things you may be led to believe are not for conversation. We are here today to tell you that that is not the case.

“Every single one of those things is completely normal. It is a human reaction, whether it’s grief, stress, whatever the feeling is, it comes from experiences you have had.” Harry stressed how anyone can suffer from mental health issues “on any given day”.

He concluded: “If you take anything away from today, just know that mental health affects every single person.” Meghan didn’t speak during the speech as she let her husband take the lead.

Wellness expert and mental health mentor Sara Goode praised Harry for his openness. She said: “This statement is key, if each of us learns to process and deal with our own emotional needs first, we stop projecting our feelings and therefore thoughts and judgements onto others. As the saying goes, ‘healed people heal people, hurt people hurt people’.

“Taking responsibility for how we feel, and being brave enough to ask for help when we need it shows everyone around us that it is OK to not be OK, we are all vulnerable in different ways, but we can find collective strength in that vulnerability when we take ownership of it.”

Harry and Meghan wore casual outfits during their first few hours in Nigeria. The Duke of Sussex wore a light grey top, while the Duchess opted for a peach-coloured dress. They both wore traditional African necklaces, with Meghan adding a simple gold necklace.

Harry and Meghan are visiting Nigeria to promote the Invictus Games and have a packed itinerary for their trip, which lasts until Monday. Among their plans is a trip to the country’s military headquarters and a visit to Lagos.

The couple will also watch a volleyball game and visit military hospitals and charities in Abuja and Lagos. The Defence HQ revealed their itinerary in a press conference on Thursday, May 9, saying they are also scheduled to meet injured armed forces personnel and their families.
