Prince Harry reveals he ‘wanted to go home’, but Prince Williams’ three-word response left him stunned

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been facing criticism since they stepped down from their Royal roles and moved to the United States to start a new life. Following an extraordinary fallout with his family, especially King Charles and estranged brother Prince William, the Duke of Sussex described what transpired after he extended

an olive branch to The Prince of Wales.

Harry remembered how he felt after talking to his brother and leaving his homeland and the mother country, for which ” I’d fought and been ready to die.”(AP)

According to Harry, Prince William showed no sympathy or emotions and rather told him three words that he wasn’t hoping for.

“You left, Harold,” William told him, as per Harry’s memoir Spare.

Harry, who was stunned with his brother’s response, replied, “Yeah – and you know why.” To this, William said, “I don’t”.

According to GB News, Harry expressed the pain in an excerpt from his book, stressing: “My beloved brother, my arch nemesis, how had that happened? I felt massively tired. I wanted to go home, and I realized what a complicated concept home had become.”

Prince Harry even said, “Willy, this was supposed to be our home. We were going to live here the rest of our lives.”

After marrying Prince Harry, Meghan attended her first ever Trooping the Colour ceremony, and made an awkward joke about the occasion to sister-in-law Kate

It’s no secret that Kate, the Princess of Wales, and her sister-in-law Meghan do not have a close relationship.

Kate Middleton with her back to Meghan Markle on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during Trooping The Colour 2018

While William’s wife has stuck to the royal mantra, ‘never complain, never explain’, Meghan has raised eyebrows with past comments about her sister-in-law, including claims Kate made her cry before her wedding, and her surprise at how ‘formal’ the future Queen is, even behind closed doors.

And now, with relations between the Sussexes and the royals at an all-time low, it seems unlikely the rift will ever be healed. Indeed, just this weekend, Meghan came under fire for seemingly releasing two new products from her lifestyle range to coincide with Kate’s return to the public eye at Trooping the Colour – a move labelled “silly” by experts.

But according to Prince Harry, cracks in the ladies’ relationship were evident back in 2018, when Meghan made her Trooping the Colour debut.

Writing in his book Spare, Harry claims that his wife was left red-faced at the event, when she tried to crack a joke with Kate, but did not get the reaction she was expecting.

Kate reportedly asked newlywed Meghan what she thought of her first Trooping the Colour, to which Meghan just said: “Colourful.”

Although Meghan’s answer was short and to the point, it did not get a positive reaction, with Harry writing in his memoir: “A yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole”.

Harry and wife Meghan stepped down as working royals back in January 2020. Prior to that, the couple made two highly-anticipated appearances at Trooping the Colour; in 2018 shortly after their wedding, and in 2019, following the arrival of the couple’s eldest child Archie.

The event was then scaled down dramatically in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and took place at Windsor Castle without a large gathering of the royal family.

In previous years, the late Queen had been joined by her wider family with extended members of the royals joining more senior royals for the traditional Red Arrows fly-past.

But that all changed in 2022. The Queen decided to limit the Platinum Jubilee Trooping the Colour balcony appearance to just working members of her family for the first time, with Prince Andrew and Harry and Meghan omitted from the royal line up.

The monarch’s decision to only include royals carrying out official public duties was taken “after careful consideration”, Buckingham Palace said at the time.

The symbolic move was interpreted ato be a snub to Harry and Meghan, who had quit the monarchy for a new life in the US, and to Andrew, who was cast out of the institution over his civil sexual assault case.

The Sussexes are understood not to have been invited to attend since.

Prince Harry most recently returned to his home country in May to celebrate 10 years of the Invictus Games. However, he did not reunite with his father. He cited the King’s ‘full schedule’, but this was called into question by claims that Charles had offered Harry royal accommodation, which was refused.

The father and son last saw each other in February when Harry flew to London to see the King amid news of the monarch’s cancer diagnosis. Their meeting lasted just 45 minutes.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been branded “ruthless” following their latest controversial move, with a royal expert sending a huge warning to the Duchess of Sussex.

Senior members of the Royal Family were in attendance for Trooping the Colour on Saturday, an important annual event where they come together to mark The King’s official birthday.

But on the morning of the celebration, which also saw Princess Kate make her first public appearance since starting her cancer treatment earlier this year, some new products from Meghan’s brand American Riviera Orchard emerged online.

Richard Fitzwilliams claimed the “Sussexes were always ruthless in disregarding events in the diaries of other members of the Royal Family, ignoring protocol which was they didn’t clash”.

He told The Mirror: “An example was the release of a trailer for their Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan which coincided with the Cambridge’s trip to the United States for the Earthshot Prize in 2022.”

Hours before Trooping the Colour, Nacho Figueras, a friend of Harry’s since 2007, took to social media to to share that he had been sent some American Riveria Orchard produce.

The polo player was seen displaying a jar of raspberry jam and a jar of dog biscuits.

Fitzwilliams lashed out at the timing of the product unveiling from the Sussexes while also sending a huge warning to Meghan.

He continued: “Apparently two more products, raspberry jam and dog biscuits, have just been launched. To do this on the same day as Trooping the Colour shows a very naive approach to marketing as they know journalists keep an eye on what they do.

“Nacho Figueras, Harry’s polo-playing friend, posted that he’d received jam and dog biscuits and posted photos.

“Whereas cynics might say the raspberry sums up the Sussexes destructive attitude to the royal family rather well, on the jar it said two of two.

“If she wants her brand to succeed, Meghan better be more adventurous than this!”

During Princess Kate’s first official royal appearance in 2024 at Trooping the Colour, the Princess of Wales conveyed “striking similarities” to actress Audrey Hepburn’s iconic look in “My Fair Lady”.

The future Queen looked stunning as she donned a recycled Jenny Packham dress that she has worn on various occasions in 2023, which she paired with a colour-matching OC 155 hat by Philip Treacy, Mulberry’s East West Bayswater Clutch (£650) and Jimmy Choo’s Romy 85 leather pumps in white (£650).

Fashion designer, Amanda Wakeley OBE, said Princess Kate’s outfit and appearance conveyed a message of “classic elegance, sophistication, and a nod to the history of British fashion”.

Amanda said: “Kate’s ensemble exuded timeless elegance, a hallmark of Hepburn’s character, Eliza Doolittle, in the Ascot scene where she wore that unforgettable black-and-white outfit. The strikingly similar monochrome bow at the neck was possibly inspired by this, it was balanced by the striped waist detail added to her previously worn Jenny Packham dress – how clever of Kate to illustrate so beautifully how a garment can be totally transformed by the addition of new trims.”

The fashion expert added: “The overall elegance, sophisticated tailoring, and the use of classic elements like the wide-brimmed hat, monochrome colours, structured lines, and refined accessories all contribute to this classic aesthetic that Kate embodied beautifully.”

Kate, who is Colonel of the Irish Guards, completed the look with a pair of pearl stud earrings by Cassandra Goad (£5,620), while she also donned the Regimental Irish Guards Brooch.

Fashion expert, Amanda explained the symbolism created with the look: “It reinforces her role as a style icon who blends contemporary fashion with historical reverence, showcasing her ability to honour the past while still looking forward as well as sending the message of how effective and rewarding upcycling can be!”

In summary of Kate as a global fashion icon, she explained: “In three words I would say… impeccable, timeless, and elegant. Kate has a unique ability to blend tradition with modernity, and this outfit was a prime example.

“The tailored dress, combined with the super chic Phillip Treacy hat, created a look that was both regal and aspirational whilst remaining accessible. Kate continues to set a high standard for royal fashion, seamlessly integrating contemporary design with classic elegance, making her a true fashion icon.”

Princess Kate peering out of the royal carriage

The royal, who revealed that she was undergoing cancer treatment back in March, made a return to public life on Saturday when she attended this year’s Trooping the Colour.

It marks her first public appearance this year, as she last stepped out on Christmas Day. She had to take a step back from public duties following major abdominal surgery in January and her subsequent cancer diagnosis.

Kate, who bravely revealed her cancer diagnosis in March, explains the treatment can leave her feeling “weak and tired” on occasions. But when she is well enough she can focus on the things that give her joy and reveals she has started “to do a little work from home”.

While she will not be returning to duties full-time, Kate does now feel well enough to undertake a small number of public engagements this summer. Also, with the royal’s cancer treatment ongoing, it remains unclear when she will step out for another royal appearance.

Prince Harry has had a trio of “royal humiliations” over the past few weeks which culminated in Trooping the Colour last weekend, according to a royal biographer

Prince Harry has faced three humiliations in just a few weeks as tempers continue to flare amongst the Royal Family, a royal biographer has claimed.

On his visit to the UK last month, Harry was unable to meet with his father King Charles as the monarch couldn’t fit him into his schedule.

According to Emily Andrews, Harry also wasn’t invited to Trooping the Colour and was “uninvited” to the Duke of Westminster’s “wedding of the year” earlier this month.

The royal biographer wrote in Woman magazine: “It has been humiliation after humiliation for Prince Harry.”

She added: “Harry has broken so many bonds of trust with so many people, it is difficult to see him ever attending a society wedding or Trooping the Colour again.”

In a further insult, his rejection occurred despite the Duke, Hugh Grosvenor, 33, being a close friend of Harry’s and a godfather to his son, Archie.

It has been a major series of blows that highlight just how much the prince has been given the cold shoulder by his family and friends, according to Emily.

Harry revealed earlier this year that he wanted to see his family more and spend more time in the UK, but upon arrival last month, he issued a statement saying he wouldn’t be meeting up with his father.

He said this was because the King’s “full programme” meant he was too busy. Emily claimed he also couldn’t meet the Prince or Princess of Wales, as they are “still understandably too hurt” to speak to him.

In a repeat of last year, both Harry and his wife, Meghan, were absent from Trooping the Colour.

And Emily said it was simply “too awkward” for Harry to be in attendance at the Duke of Westminster’s wedding to Olivia Henson, 31, at Chester Cathedral this month.

She claimed it was deemed too “difficult” to allow Harry to attend due to the “frosty feud” between him and William, who said they didn’t want anything “overshadowing” the day.

Emily said this awkwardness extends to most of Harry’s family and friends, as many are concerned they could appear in a future book or Netflix series produced by the prince.

A new bombshell book about the Beckhams sheds light into their strained relationship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Meghan Markle’s friendship with Victoria Beckham started withering all the way back in 2017 over leaks to the press, a royal author has claimed.

A new book about the Beckham family promises to bring new revelations about the world-famous couple into the spotlight and one of them is allegedly the breakdown of their relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The House of Beckham by Tom Bower – out tomorrow (June 20) – claims that when Meghan met David Beckham’s wife, they initially became good friends, with the Spice Girl even offering beauty advice to Meghan, who was then the duke’s fiance.

But according to Mr Bower, a report by the Sun about their “growing friendship” was enough to cause the first cracks in their relationship, as Meghan was allegedly “furious” over the article amid the UK media’s ongoing probing into her life.

The report claimed: “And their [Meghan and Victoria’s] love of pricey facials and glamorous blow-dries has become the foundation for a growing friendship.”

Harry and Meghan are said to have initially blamed Victoria for the leaks, with Harry allegedly making a tense phone call to David, who, after speaking to his wife, furiously denied the claims.

“In the end, the blame landed on a beautician,” reports the Independent, which has serialised parts of the new book.

However, according to Mr Bower, the incident proved to be only the beginning of the couple’s rift.

The Beckhams ended up attending the Sussexes’s wedding in 2018, however their relationship is said to be “frostier than ever” now

The author also accused Meghan of being “deluded” to think she’s a higher social class than the Beckhams and claimed that she was left “irritated” when she discovered they were richer than her.

He wrote: “In Meghan’s celebrity world, ranking depended on wealth and fame. As a seasoned operator, Meghan deluded herself that her status in the Royal family placed her above Victoria in the social pecking order.

“She was irritated to discover that the Beckhams had considerably more wealth than herself.

“They owned five homes, had constant access to private jets, invitations to sail on yachts and much more money. And she was soon to be a duchess.”

Royal Family LIVE: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle issued stark warning over future

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were warned against monetising their royal links.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were warned they need to stop cashing in on their royal links if they ever want to be welcomed back into the fold.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been estranged from the Firm ever since they quit their royal duties and moved to the US back in 2020.

However, they’ve been criticised for regularly trying to monetise their links to the royals mainly through releasing bombshell claims about life within the Family.

Now the Daily Mirror’s royal correspondent Russell Myers slammed their pair for their strategy and told Sky News Australia: “Members from the Royal Family have told Harry, if he wants a relationship with the rest of the family, then first and foremost, he has got to stop talking about them. They can’t go about making money off their associations with the royal family. They’re going to [have to] sort of realize, if they’re going to have a relationship with the rest of the Royal Family, they can’t go about trashing them.”

He added: “Hopefully, they’ll see that the royal family are very united without them, and if they do want a relationship, going forward, they need to take the steam out of their relationship and out of the things they say sometimes.”

Inside Duchess Sophie and Prince Edward’s wedding as pair celebrate 25th anniversary

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary today. Here Express.co.uk shares eight pictures to mark their special day.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are celebrating a major milestone in their relationship today – 25 years of marriage.

The couple tied the knot on June 19, 1999 and now share two children, Lady Louise Windsor, 20, and James, Earl of Wessex, 16.

As they celebrate 25 years of wedded bliss, the couple now appear stronger than ever after anything but a smooth ride as two of the most popular members of the Royal Family.

Known for their low-key approach to royal life, the pair have opted to live a life majorly away from the royal spotlight – although they are never far away when it comes to helping King Charles and Queen Camilla in their roles in the monarchy.

Here, Express.co.uk reminiscences on the couple’s special day and all the memories from 1999 that they are likely to be looking back on today.

    Sophie and Edward's engagement

The official start of their wedding story began on when they announced their engagement on January 6, 1999. Prince Edward popped the question to Sophie with a stunning Asprey and Garrard white gold ring featuring a two-carat oval diamond surrounded by two heart-shaped gemstones and rumoured to be worth £105,000. Sophie worked in public relations when she met her future husband in 1993. Sophie was leading the publicity for the Prince’s Real Tennis Challenge event – where Edward was in attendance.

According to royal expert Ingrid Seward, Edward “surreptitiously” asked for Sophie’s phone number that night in 1993 – and the rest is history. Edward reportedly told reporters – after their engagement was leaked by The Sun: “It’s impossible to understand why it has taken me this long, but I don’t think it would have been right before, and I don’t think she would have said yes.” Their wedding took place on June 19, 1999 – around five months after announcing their engagement.

Sophie and Edward on their wedding day

Prince Edward and Sophie had a relatively simple Royal Wedding, with no ceremonial state or military involvement – a wish voiced by the couple. The ceremony was mainly a family occasion. Their wedding took place at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle – the same venue that his nephew, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married almost two decades later. Edward was bestowed the Earl of Wessex hours before the ceremony – a title now held by the couple’s son James.

    Prince Edward and Sophie's wedding

Members of the Royal Family were invited to celebrate the wedding of Prince Edward and Sophie. Edward’s two brothers, the now-King Charles and Prince Andrew, both served as his supporters – which is the royal equivalent of ‘best man’. The couple’s low-key nuptials saw only 500 guests in attendance, with a later 5pm ceremony and a request from Sophie that women need not wear hats. Then then-Prime Minister Tony Blair and other politicians were not invited.

As well as the older royals, many of the younger royals attended Sophie and Edward’s wedding in 1999. Prince Harry’s barring from Trooping the Colour would have ‘hurt him, an expert has claimed.

Broadcaster Dee Dee Dunleavy appeared on Sky News Australia to discuss the Duke of Sussex not attending Trooping the Colour last weekend.

Prince Harry “would have” cared about attending, she said. “(Meghan) wouldn’t have given a flying about Trooping the Colour, but Harry would have.

“His military service was always incredibly important to him and he served two tours of Afghanistan to not be invited and to not be part of that would have really hurt him

“For Kate, I think this is a big part of the reason it was so important for her to be there. She’s an honorary colonel of the Irish guards and she wanted to be there in order to thank those people for their service.

“There wasn’t much buildup, she announced it the day before that she was going to be there, which is extraordinary.”

The broadcaster then went on to discuss the Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnosis and treatment. She mentioned how Kate is “going to do more as she feels fit to do so”.

Ms Dunleavy said: “The treatment the princess is still having could have quite an impact on her and I absolutely agree that she should be owed privacy while she goes through the treatment.”

The host also said Meghan and Harry were “moaning” about not being invited to Trooping the Colour. She said: “They weren’t invited and they did announce just hours before Kate’s big return that their lifestyle brand is now doing dog treats and raspberry jam.

Ms Dunleavy said: “There was this news that Meghan had apparently invented some new Incredible new jam.

“It turns out that it was raspberry, up until that point she’d only made strawberry. But here’s the it gets worse she’s only made two jars of this raspberry jam.”

Prince Andrew did attend Monday’s Order of the Garter Day service and lunch despite being absent from the procession at Windsor Castle.

While it was decided that the Duke of York be kept away from the public eye to avoid a backlash, he did attend the private events of the day as Knight of the Order.

Andrew has been a Garter Knight since 2006 but he is no longer a working member of the Royal Family after he stepped down from public life following the furore over his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

According to Buckingham Palace, the royal was at the investiture held by the King and named the Chapter of the Most Noble Order of the Garter in the Throne Room of Windsor Castle.

He was joined by Queen Camilla, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal and Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and The Duke of Kent as well as Lord Lloyd-Webber, Lord Kakkar and Air Chief Marshal Lord Peach and other Knights.

During the investiture, the King invested the Duchess of Gloucester with the insignia of a Lady of the Most Noble Order of the Garter and Lord Lloyd-Webber, Lord Kakkar and Air Chief Marshal Lord Peach with the insignia of a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.

The Palace announced that the monarch later gave a luncheon party for the companions of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, “at which The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of York, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and The Duke of Kent were present.”

Earlier, hundreds of spectators lined the procession route with many taking hampers and camping chairs to add a summer picnic feel to the occasion.

Charles and Camilla donned their robes and white plumed hats as they headed to St George’s Chapel along with other Ladies and Knights of the Garter.

After the service, the royals took part in a traditional carriage procession back up the hill to the castle.

The carriages travelled quickly and first Charles and Camilla left by coach followed by Edward, Sophie and William together, and then Anne and her husband Sir Tim.

The Order of the Garter is the country’s oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry.

It was founded in 1348 by Edward III and is awarded by the sovereign for outstanding public service and achievements.
