Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been “sucking up to Hollywood royalty” albeit unsuccessfully, according to a royal commentator.
Richard Eden drew comparisons between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s attempts to woo new celebrity friendship and Prince William’s easy relationship with big names such as American pop star Taylor Swift.
Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential, Mr Eden said: “It’s a very different relationship because, essentially, Taylor Swift is here and she wants to show her respect for the Royal Family.
In a way, you could say [she is] paying court to Prince William whereas with Harry and Meghan, it’s the other way round. They’re the ones who seem to be always sucking up to Hollywood royalty.
They thought when they moved to California, ‘we’ll be at the centre of this sort of royal court and everyone will come to see us.’ But it never seems to be working out like that.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ideas of life in California have been far from the reality, a royal expert commenting on Prince William’s recent celebrity encounter claims.
Prince William, along with Princess Charlotte and Prince George, attended the singer’s Eras Tour concert at London’s Wembley Stadium last Friday.
A selfie shared by the Shake It Off singer has amassed thousands of likes across social media platforms while a video of William dancing went viral. The Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden says it is a sharp contrast to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrity interactions.
Speaking on the Palace Confidential podcast, Eden said: “It’s a very different relationship because essentially Taylor Swift’s here and she wants to you know show her respect for the royal family and in a way you could say paying court to Prince William whereas with Harry and Megan I think it’s the other way around.

“They are the ones that always seem to be sucking up to the Hollywood royalty you know. I think they thought ‘when we move to California we’ll be at the centre of this kind of royal course and everyone will be coming to see us’ but it never seems to be working out like that.”
He added: “I remember we’ve actually seen them when they met Beyonce and Jay-Z and it was a Disney Premiere and that they were using the occasion to suck up to these big wigs trying to get work for Meghan.”
Daily Mail Royal Editor Rebecca English described another encounter with Beyonce as a “standout cringe moment” from the six-episode series.

She said: “It did make me of that moment in their Netflix documentary when they were sitting at a desk together do you remember and then Harry goes ‘oh surprise she’s got a text message oh it’s off Beyonce’ with this kind of terrible hammy acting and you know she goes ‘oh well I might just read it out, it says how wonderful I am,’ which to me was one of the standout cringe moments of that documentary.”
In the clip, Meghan says “Beyonce just texted,” with Harry looking surprised replying “shut-up” adding “just checking-in, just casual”. Meghan replies with: “I still can’t believe she knows who I am!”

Meghan Markle feels hurt after her father, Thomas Markle, candidly spoke to a UK newspaper about his regret of never meeting his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and further family revelations.
Thomas Markle, who turns 80 in July, spoke about getting older and his sadness over his estrangement from Meghan, 42, and Prince Harry, 39. He also compared his situation to King Charles, saying neither grandfather deserved “the treatment we’ve received” from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Speaking to OK! Magazine, a source described Meghan had been feeling “under attack”. The source claimed: “It’s been a hard week for Meghan and she feels like she’s constantly under attack. The revelations about her and her dad’s private talks have been hard as she thought she had moved on from that.”
The source described Meghan and Thomas’s previous relationship as being “so close”, and that she was “devastated” that they no longer speak, despite “cutting him out”. They added: “Before she met Harry, she had a very good relationship with her dad but all that has changed.”

Meanwhile, in his interview with the Daily Mail, Meghan Markle’s dad insisted he is not looking for sympathy following his fall-out with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2018.
Thomas said: “When you look at what Harry and Meghan have done since, like accusing the Royal Family of racism, it’s far worse than anything I’ve done. I don’t want pity and I don’t want this episode to define my life. I don’t want to be a footnote in history.”
Meghan’s dad famously fell out with his daughter following his paparazzi scandal and absence from her wedding in 2018. The duo have not had contact over the last six years and Thomas has not even seen his grandchildren, Prince Archie, five, or Princess Lilibet, three, or even met Prince Harry.
Thomas described how he has “had a good life and I am proud of what I’ve accomplished”, adding that “everything has been overshadowed by what has happened in the last six years.”
Thomas went on to describe how he was “vulnerable” when all the drama began with Harry and Meghan. He famously missed giving Meghan away at her wedding after he suffered two heart attacks prior to the nuptials, meaning that Charles ended up walking her down the aisle instead of him.

As Thomas Markle’s milestone birthday approaches, he is hoping his daughter will rekindle a relationship. He said: “I’ve never been one for birthdays, but I know the one person I most want to hear from, Meghan, won’t be in touch. I would love to meet my grandchildren, but I would be happy with a photograph at this stage.”
Mr Markle will celebrate his birthday on July 18 this year but has admitted he does not expect to hear from Meghan, even though he still hangs onto the hope.
According to OK! Magazine’s source, their estrangement has left Meghan feeling increasingly isolated: “She no longer speaks to her own family, apart from her mum, and they no longer have anything to do with Harry’s family so at times it is understandable that she feels quite isolated.
“She was always so close to her dad and she misses being able to talk to him, he would always give good advice. But Meghan knows that she can’t go back.”
Meanwhile, Speaking on GB News, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said that we may find out more details of the estrangement between Meghan and her dad in a potential follow-up memoir by the Duke of Sussex.
Richard said: “Before the engagement, it has never been explained why Harry has never met Thomas Markle. That is something that perhaps will be explained in a future memoir, but this is all very sad business.”

Speaking to Palace Confidential recently, the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden said that Harry has portrayed “worrying echoes” similar to that of Meghan.

Prince Harry issued a three-word complaint explaining why he never felt close to members of his immediate family. Writing in his tell-all memoir Spare, the Duke of Sussex claimed that the formality of the Firm created an emotional gap between its members.
The 39-year-old said “distance was essential” during his time as a working royal – not just between the Royal Family and the general public, but between members of the family itself.
Harry wrote: “As a Royal you were always taught to maintain a buffer zone between you and the rest of Creation.
“Even working a crowd you always kept a discreet distance between Yourself and Them.”

He added that distance was “an essential bit of being royal,” before going on to say: “Family included distance as well.
“No matter how much you might love someone, you could never cross that chasm between, say, monarch and child. Or Heir and Spare. Physically, but also emotionally.”
The Prince added that his brother would often demand to be given space and that older members of the family “maintained a nearly zero-tolerance prohibition on all physical contact”.

Harry even changed his accent to go with it. He recalled how even his ‘Pa’ relished his new moniker as well as his security who got t-shirts made with his new nickname on it reading ‘Spike 2003.’
The dad-of-two said in his book Spare: “Soon enough my mates at home got wind of this new nickname, and adopted it. I became Spike, when I wasn’t Haz, or Baz, or Prince Jackaroo, or Harold, or Darling Boy, or Scrawny, a nickname given me by some Palace staff. Identity had always been problematic, but with a half dozen formal names and a full dozen nicknames it was turning into a hall of mirrors.”
Prince Harry shared his heartbreak at his identity issues with his readers. He said: “Most days I didn’t care what people called me. Most days I thought: Don’t care who I am, so long as it’s someone new, someone other than Prince Harry.”

However, it’s been noted that the timing of these announcements often coincides with significant events in the Royal Family’s calendar.
This pattern has led a top Royal expert to suggest that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are becoming “increasingly irrelevant” as the Royal Family focuses more on supporting those in need through meaningful gestures.
“I can’t honestly imagine that they are sitting there scheming to make announcements on the same day as a royal event. Surely they are bigger than that? “, former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond pondered.
“It’s true that there have been some rather strange coincidences in the past about the timing of some of their announcements. But I think they are becoming less and less relevant to the news over here, and the Royal Family will command the attention every time.”

Recent events have seen a product launch clashing with Trooping the Colour, coinciding with the Princess of Wales ‘ first public appearance post-cancer treatment. Additionally, Meghan’s luxury lifestyle brand American Riveria Orchard was announced just before Prince William’s speech at an awards ceremony honouring his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
However, the Royal Family has recently made their loyalties clear amidst a flurry of Royal engagements. During the recent Royal Ascot week, one gesture stood out as King Charles invited Lady Gabriella Kingston to join him in one of the carriages on the first day of the procession.
This heartwarming act followed the tragic suicide of Lady Gabriella’s husband, Thomas Kingston, aged 45, in February.

Once upon a time, William and Harry were inseparable but it is believed the chasm between them has widened so much in recent years that a reconciliation seems unlikely. Since his departure from the Royal family, Harry, along with his wife Meghan Markle, have been vocal critics of the monarchy; their criticisms have been aired in their notorious Oprah interview, their Netflix series, various interviews, and in his memoir, Spare. Their constant revelations have strained William’s relationship with Harry – and one Royal expert suggests there’s a personal reason why the future King decided to “cut ties” with his younger sibling.
Ingrid Seward highlighted the significance of stability in William’s life as she told the Mirror: “William is sensitive, he likes structure and has perseverance. He does not give up easily. When probed about the duration since their last communication, Harry admitted it had been “a while.” Harry also disclosed that it’s been quite some time since he spoke to his father, saying, “We haven’t spoken for quite a while. No, not recently.” Yet, he expressed hope for reconciliation: “But at the heart of it, there is a family, without question. And I really look forward to having that family element back. I look forward to having a relationship with my brother.”
He added: “I look forward to having a relationship with my father and other members of my family. My brother and I love each other. I love him deeply. There has been a lot of pain between the two of us, especially the last six years.”
Prince Harry was last in the UK for the Invictus Games’ 10th anniversary in May but didn’t catch up with his father. While citing King Charles’s ‘full schedule’ as the reason, doubts were cast when it emerged that Charles had extended an offer of Royal lodgings to Harry, which he turned down. The last time the father and son duo were together was in February, when Harry jetted off to London for a brief 45-minute encounter with King Charles amidst the monarch’s battle with cancer.
Despite the strained relations, it appears that Charles is eager to forge a bond with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet. Royal commentator and author Tom Quinn has revealed that the King is pushing Harry to establish a UK base to allow for more meaningful family interactions. Yet, Tom is sceptical about Meghan joining her husband back in the UK, considering her previous experiences with the Royal Family.
Tom said: “King Charles has been putting pressure on Harry to do just this as he is angry that his only relationship with his grandchildren so far is via video calls, which Charles hates. William and Kate’s children would spend the weekend at Highgrove and Harry’s children could then easily pop over from their house nearby.”
