Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie swerve Royal Christmas after Andrew and Fergie skip bash

In a break from royal tradition, this year’s Christmas celebration will be missing two much loved faces, as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie make other plans

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are both set to miss out on this year’s royal Christmas gathering at Sandringham, in a huge break from a tradition they have followed for almost all their lives. Ever since they were children, both Princesses have attended the annual soiree hosted at Sandringham, and for nine out of the past ten years, have made a key point of attending.

The news that the sisters would be missing out on a royal Christmas, came shortly after reports emerged that confirmed that their parents Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, would also be skipping the bash hosted by King Charles. It is believed that the Prince and his ex-wife will instead celebrate alone at their Royal Lodge home on the Windsor estate.

The couple’s absence marks a stark change from last year’s celebration, when Prince Andrew and Fergie were permitted to attend the event and even took part in the annual Christmas walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church on the estate’s grounds. However, in the wake the recent scandal over the Prince’s alleged connections to a suspected Chinese spy, the couple are understood to be marking the occasion privately instead.

Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, meanwhile, will not be spending the holidays with their parents either, as it is understood that both royals were invited to spend Christmas with their respective in-laws several months ago, and have decided to take them up on the kind offer.

Beatrice has been married to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi since 2020, with the couple currently expecting their second child due in the New Year. The couple also share daughter Sienna, 3, and son Wolfie, 8, who is Edo’s son from a previous relationship.

Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank in 2018, with the couple sharing two sons together, August, 3 and Ernest, 1.

The York sisters have only missed the Sandringham celebration once in the past decade, and that was due to coronavirus restrictions in 2020 which didn’t allow family gatherings outside of their respective bubbles. Yet despite missing out on the event, which is due to be attended by many key royals including Prince William and his wife Princess Kate – this year will mark a milestone for both sisters, as it is the first time they have spent Christmas with their respective in-laws.

Sarah Ferguson makes shock confession about marriage to Prince Andrew

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson divorced in 1996 after ten years of marriage – but the former couple continue to be incredibly close and live together at Royal Lodge

Prince Andrew’s scandals show no sign of slowing down, but one woman who has remained firmly by his side is his ex-wife.

A once popular member of the royal family who was held in high regard for his bravery in the Falklands War, the Duke’s reputation was left in tatters after his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein came to light. And this week, Andrew has once again shamed the monarchy over his connections to an alleged Chinese spy.

It’s the latest scandal to hit the beleaguered Prince, who has made the decision to withdraw from the royals Christmas celebrations at Sandringham, as well as the festive lunch at Buckingham Palace on Thursday as a result of the furore.

Throughout it all, one person has never given up on him – his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. And just recently she made a surprise admission about their marriage.

“I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew. I would do it all over again, 100 per cent,” she told the Times. “He’s the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind. Our wedding was the best day of my life. But I gave up my anonymity that day. I was able to because love conquers all. It’s still with us today.

“I won’t let him down. He supports me as much as I support him. He’s supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce. We agree on the three Cs — communication, compromise, compassion.”

Andrew and Sarah have known each other since they were children but it wasn’t until 1985 that they started dating after being seated together at Royal Ascot that year.

They got engaged nine months later on February 19, 1986 – his 26th birthday – with Andrew presenting his wife-to-be with a beautiful ruby engagement ring. Their wedding took place at Westminster Abbey on 23 July 1986 and two years later, they welcomed their first child, Princess Beatrice, followed by Princess Eugenie in 1990.

But cracks had already begun to appear in their relationship. Andrew’s naval career saw him away from the family for long periods of time. And in 1991 they split, with their divorce finalised in 1996.

Speaking to US TV host Ernie Manouse in 2010, Sarah said: “My deal was that I was marrying my man, who happened to be a prince and a naval officer. But what I got was not the man, I got the palace and didn’t get him… and the courtiers told me I had to go to Buckingham Palace and he had to go to sea. For our marriage, I saw him 40 days a year.”

In 2010, Sarah stated that if they had their time again, they would stand up to those who pushed them apart. She said: “Both Andrew and I… both of us say now if we could go back we would definitely play it differently and we should have learnt how to play the chess game differently. And maybe we have still been together because we would have said ‘no’ to being separated just after our wedding.”

And speaking to the Daily Mail in 2018, Sarah reiterated how “united” the family will always be, despite all they’d been through, and claimed she was “divorced to” Andrew, not divorced from him. “We’re the happiest divorced couple in the world. We’re divorced to each other, not from each other,” she explained. “My duty is to him. I am so proud of him. I stand by him and always will. The way we are is our fairytale.” The Duchess continued: “The Yorks are a united family. We’ve shown it.”

Harry and Meghan were reportedly not invited to the royal family’s Christmas at Sandringham in light of their fall-out – but there will be a new face attending for the first time

Prince Harry will once again miss out on celebrating Christmas with the royals at Sandringham, given that he is now all but estranged from his family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are instead expected to remain in California with their two children and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland. Across the Atlantic, meanwhile, some 45 extended members of the monarch’s family will gather in Norfolk for the festivities.

“Tom said his mother often suggested he joined them, but he’d always said no,” he added. “To have the King’s stepson there, but not his son is significant.”

Food critic Tom revealed in a recent interview with The Telegraph that his mother, Queen Camilla, personally requested his presence at the royal gathering this year. “My mum said, ‘I’d love you to come, I haven’t had Christmas with you for a long time,’” Tom shared.

He revealed his usual routine at Christmas was to spend the day with his ex-wife, former fashion editor Sara Buys, and their teenage children Lola and Frederick. “For the past 15 years it has been: I go back to my ex-wife’s house, sit in my tracksuit bottoms, go to the pub while the beef’s in, then try to get my children to watch The Wild Geese. Classic. So this would be a bit different,” he said.

Asked whether he knows which other family members will be in attendance, or what the activities might be, Tom replied: “I genuinely know nothing about it. “I know there’s turkey and sprouts and church. And I have to bring a suit and a dinner jacket.”

Tom also reflected on the importance of spending Christmas with his mum, noting that it has been a difficult period for the King and Queen, health-wise. Charles is being treated for cancer, and the Queen has been recovering from a bout of pneumonia after their trip to Australia and Samoa.

“It has been a hell of a two years for them,” he said. “The older you get, the more conscious you become of mortality, especially with illnesses and the rest of it.”

It comes after it was revealed that Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have pulled out of the Sandringham celebrations amid the furore surrounding his connections to an alleged Chinese spy.

It’s also believed that the couple’s two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will be with their respective inlaws on Christmas Day, meaning Andrew and Sarah will likely spend the day together quietly at Royal Lodge.

  • Prince William and Kate kick off Christmas holidays with George, Charlotte and Louis

Prince William and Kate kick off Christmas holidays with George, Charlotte and Louis

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and little Prince Louis have officially broken up from school for their Christmas holidays. And their festive celebrations are already in full swing

There will be great excitement in the Wales household this week. That’s because Prince William and Princess Kate’s three children are officially on their Christmas holidays from school – and counting down the days until Santa comes.

George, Charlotte, and Louis broke up from Lambrook on 13 December and it is thought the family immediately travelled to Anmer Hall, their much-loved country retreat on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

It means they are perfectly situated from next week’s Christmas celebrations. Some 45 members of the royal family are travelling to Sandringham to spend time with King Charles and Queen Camilla – including Prince William, Princess Kate and their brood.

Indeed, the festivities began some time ago for George, Charlotte, and Louis who stepped out to support their mum at her Together At Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey on 6 December. And now, with school officially out, their excitement for the big day will be ramping up even further.

Just recently Prince William lifted the lid on the royal family’s Christmas plans during a visit with soldiers and their families in Bulford, Wiltshire. And as well as revealing that a whopping 45 extended family members are heading to Sandringham to celebrate with King Charles, he made a surprising confession.

The royal found himself amid a sea of festive jumpers as he handed out Christmas presents to military families on Tuesday, as Colonel-in-Chief of 1st Battalion Mercian Regiment in Wiltshire. Asked why he was not wearing a festive jumper of his own, William pointed to himself and admitted: “Some people don’t own one!”

When asked why, he then pointed across the room at his new equerry, Squadron Leader Mike Reynolds, and said jokingly: “I didn’t know. You see that guy in the jacket, it’s his fault and I will be having a word!”

Sharing details of his own Christmas plans, William said he would be spending the day with 45 members of his family “all in one room” but “normally spread out”, and said he hoped for a long walk that included all the dogs. “Am I ready for Christmas?” he then admitted with a laugh. “No! No way am I ready.”

The huge family gathering will see the majority of royals head to Norfolk to celebrate with the King. It’s an especially poignant Christmas following both Princess Kate and King Charles’s cancer battles this year.

But while the Sandringham estate will be filled with extended royal family members, there will be some notable absences. Prince Harry and Meghan have not received an invitation to this year’s celebration, according to reports – and now Prince Andrew has pulled out amid the furore over his links to an alleged Chinese spy.

Andrew and Sarah’s two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie, have reportedly also decided to skip the traditional gathering. It’s understood that both sisters were invited to spend Christmas with their respective in-laws several months ago, and have decided to take them up on the kind offer.

  • Prince Andrew pulls out of Buckingham Palace pre-Christmas lunch after spy scandal

Prince Andrew pulls out of Buckingham Palace pre-Christmas lunch after spy scandal

The Duke of York has decided not to join the rest of the royal family for a pre-Christmas celebration at Buckingham Palace this week after his connections to an alleged spy continue to make headlines

Prince Andrew has decided not to attend the royal family’s pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

The beleaguered royal will no longer join some 70 royals for the festive celebration this week amid the ongoing furore over his relationship with alleged Chinese spy Yang Tengbo.

Traditionally, each year the monarch invites extended family for a big festive meal at the Palace. And while the lunch itself is private, guests are photographed going in and out of the palace gates.

But Andrew has decided to stay away from the festivities this year in light of his latest scandal. According to the Daily Mail, it was Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson who advised him to keep a low-profile and stay away from the Palace soiree.

Furthermore, the former couple have decided to remain at their home in Royal Lodge on Christmas Day, rather than travel to Sandringham with the rest of the family, to avoid further embarrassing the King.

Much has changed for Andrew and Sarah in the past 12 months. Last Christmas, along with their two daughters, they were invited to Sandringham for the festive celebrations and took part in the royal family’s traditional morning walk to church.

It was all the more poignant for Sarah given that it was the first time she had been invited since 1991. Many saw it as a return to the royal fold for the 65-year-old.

Despite the latest drama surrounding her ex-husband, Sarah remains incredibly loyal to Andrew. In a new interview with the Times , which took part “before recent revelations about Andrew” but published after the event, she gushed about her love for the Prince.

“I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew. I would do it all over again, 100 per cent. He’s the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind. Our wedding was the best day of my life. But I gave up my anonymity that day. I was able to because love conquers all. It’s still with us today. I won’t let him down. He supports me as much as I support him. He’s supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce. We agree on the three Cs — communication, compromise, compassion.”

Andrew and Fergie split in 1992, and divorced in 1996, but they still live together at Royal Lodge in Windsor.

The furore over Andrew’s links with the Chinese businessman is the latest controversy to engulf him and put him back on the front pages of newspapers.

The Prince was forced to step back from public duties following his bombshell interview with the BBC about his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein , which aired in November 2019, just over five years ago.

His mother, the late Queen, then stripped Andrew of his military titles and patronages in January 2022. And more recently, King Charles reportedly cut Prince Andrew’s allowance off this past summer while encouraging him to move out of Royal Lodge into a smaller residence.

John Torode’s wife has revealed her thoughts on MasterChef’s new presenter after Gregg Wallace’s stepped away from the long-running BBC series following allegations over his behaviour

John Torode’s wife, Lisa Faulkner, has spoken after Gregg Wallace’s MasterChef replacement was announced.

It was revealed Grace Dent will take over on the hit cooking show and John, who has presented MasterChef since 2005, said: “I have loved working with Grace on MasterChef over the years. She has been an excellent guest, an inspiring critic and also set some incredible challenges.

“Expertise is what MasterChef is all about, from the contestants to our wonderful production team, to us as judges. The love of food, the love of MasterChef, and that unquestionable expertise, makes Grace the perfect person to step in alongside me as judge for the forthcoming Celebrity MasterChef series.”

Sharing her congratulations with Grace after hearing the news that she will be taking over from Wallace, Lisa wrote: “Go Grace!!!!!!!”.

Grace, 51, had appeared on MasterChef regularly as a guest judge. She will now be a judge on the upcoming series of Celebrity MasterChef after Wallace stepped away from his BBC role amid an investigation into historical allegations of misconduct. Wallace has denied all allegations made against him and is said to be willing to co-operate with any investigation.

She also previously took part in a version of MasterChef: Battle Of The Critics. Following the new role announcement, she said: “I’ve been watching MasterChef since I was a girl sitting with my dad on the sofa.

“My whole family watches it. It’s all about uncovering and championing talent – and to have ended up in this position, is more than a dream to me. I’m so excited that I can’t eat, which is severely detrimental to a restaurant critic. I feel very lucky to be stepping in for the next Celebrity MasterChef. I can’t wait to meet the fresh celebrity faces for 2025.”

Wallace’s exit comes after a number of women came forward to make claims about his actions. Among them were Newsnight star Kirsty Wark. As a result of the allegations, Banijay UK, the show’s production company, confirmed it would be launching an external review looking at historical allegations of misconduct.

Wallace’s lawyers have previously denied the accusations. Speaking to the BBC, they said: “It is entirely false that he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature.”

Following the allegations, John had previously said: “The thought of anyone who has appeared on our show not having a brilliant experience is awful to hear.” He also revealed that he “fully supports” the investigation and said he “cannot make any further comment at this stage”.

BBC Breakfast hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay pause for Royal Mail ‘breaking news’

BBC Breakfast viewers were left divided as they hit out at the government for ‘selling off’ the Royal Mail after a ‘breaking news’ announcement was made on the show

On BBC Breakfast, a sudden breaking news alert regarding Royal Mail’s sale caused a pause in regular programming.

On Monday, December 16, hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay returned to the iconic red sofa, delivering the latest headlines across the country and beyond. The major talking point of the programme, however, was the acquisition of Royal Mail by Czech business magnate Daniel Kretinsky.

In an 8am update branded as “breaking news”, both Jon and Sally verified the go-ahead for the highly discussed takeover.

Sally reported: “The government has approved the sale of the Royal Mail parent company to the Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky. It’s understood that the deal worth £3.6billion will be formerly announced later this morning,” reports the Express.

Adding to this, Jon noted: “The firm was established in the 16th century and privatised a decade ago. Ministers will still have a say in how it is run. Our business correspondent and editor, Simon Jack has the story for us.”

Post-announcement, viewers promptly turned to social platform X to express their opinions. A clearly dissatisfied fan remarked: “Sadly, this only confirms that the modern Britain unlike the Britain of old knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. Well done, sell the Tower of London next!”

One viewer commented: “The end of everyday delivery and probably the end of letters.” Another, chiming in on the debate, posted: “#BBCBreakfast running interference for the destruction of the Royal Mail.”

A different spectator weighed in on the matter of the company’s title, suggesting: “The ‘Royal’ should be removed if it’s a private concern.”

With the upcoming changes, the government will maintain a special “golden share”, which enables it to sign off on significant shifts concerning Royal Mail’s ownership, the location of its headquarters, and its tax residency status.

Additionally, new arrangements have been made with unions to ensure workers benefit from the company’s profits; they’ll receive 10% of any dividends distributed to Kretinsky. Moreover, there will be the creation of a workers group which will convene monthly with the directors of Royal Mail, amplifying the employees say in the corporate management.

Over time, customers have cast a critical eye on Royal Mail due to what they perceive as rising postage costs and have also voiced concerns over delayed deliveries.

BBC Breakfast airs Monday-Sundays from 6AM on BBC One.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry put friendly royal in ‘tricky situation’ but ‘ideal compromise’ identified

Princess Eugenie has been faced with a ‘tricky situation’ over her Christmas plans, with the royal reportedly having to choose between spending the festive season with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the US or with the Royal Family at Sandringham

With the festive season fast approaching, all eyes are on Princess Eugenie as she faces a Yuletide dilemma. Recent reports suggest that Eugenie has been extended a warm invite by none other than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to celebrate Christmas with them in Montecito, California.

Yet at the same time, the 34-year-old royal, along with her husband Jack Brooksbank, aged 38, and their young children, August, who is three, and one-year-old Ernest, have also received an invitation to join the rest of the Royals for the traditional festivities at Sandringham. Insiders speaking to the Express hinted that Princess Eugenie’s brood might opt for a Stateside visit post-Christmas, offering the tots some important cousin bonding time with Archie and Lilibet.

Commenting on Eugenie’s conundrum, Jennie Bond, the veteran former BBC Royal correspondent, expressed her insights to OK!. She mentioned: “This is a tricky situation for Eugenie. It would be pretty bad form to refuse an invitation to Sandringham, and I imagine she would want to be with her mum and dad, after a difficult year for them as well.”

She added her view on a potential solution: “But I think she values her relationship with Harry and Meghan too. So a New Year’s visit would be an ideal compromise…and would keep a link between Harry and his UK family, which has to be a good thing all round.”, reports OK!.

It’s no secret that Eugenie and Prince Harry share a special bond; amid ongoing family frictions, the Duke remains close to both Eugenie and her sister Beatrice, who have stood by him through thick and thin.

Earlier this week, Royal watchers noted Princess Eugenie’s absence from Kate Middleton’s “Together At Christmas” Carol Service at Westminster Abbey. The mum-of-one skipped the event for the first time since it began in 2021.
