The funeral for Liam Payne, the former One Direction star who tragically died in a fall from his hotel balcony in Argentina, is scheduled to take place this week.

The singer was just 31 years old when he passed away in Buenos Aires, leaving behind a grieving family, friends, and fans. Following the tragedy, Liam’s father Geoff traveled to Argentina and had to wait for authorities to release his son’s body for repatriation to the UK.

The details of the ex-One Direction member’s funeral have not been disclosed, as it is expected to be a private celebration of his life. This follows hundreds of vigils held by fans in the UK and around the world in recent weeks.

It remains uncertain whether Liam’s former bandmates will attend the funeral, but it is rumored that some of his celebrity friends will be present. An insider revealed that there would be “a series of song tributes” at the funeral because Liam “loved singing and making music until the end.”

The source told Radar Online: “Liam’s funeral is going to be packed with A-listers as he was so well-loved in the showbiz community, and so many of them are so sad about his tragic death. His family want to keep his farewell low-key and respectful, as it’s what Liam would have wanted as he was so down to earth.”, reports the Mirror.

“But there are going to be a series of song tributes from some very big acts as he loved singing and making music until the end,” the source continued.

In the wake of Liam’s passing, Zayn Malik had been set to entertain stateside with his “Stairway to the Sky” tour but chose to push back these performances, rescheduling them for January.

Liam’s first brush with fame occurred at 14 with an audition on The X Factor in 2008 where he crooned Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me To The Moon. ” Two years subsequent, his return at 16 saw him joining forces with Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Harry Styles to form One Direction, skyrocketing to global stardom.

Following his tragic demise, fans have initiated a petition on Charge.org demanding new legislation for mental health protections in the entertainment sector.

The petition aims to “implore lawmakers to create legislation safeguarding the mental health of artists within the industry” and advocates for a law, named Liam’s Law, which would require “regular mental health check-ups, adequate rest periods and the presence of mental health professionals on-set, including any ongoing support during their career.”

The father-of-one, Liam, had previously admitted to battling alcoholism at the height of his fame, describing hitting “rock bottom” to The Diary Of A CEO podcast host Steven Bartlett, before announcing in 2023 that he was sober after seeking help in rehab.
