Revealed: Oleksandr Usyk’s punch stats against Tyson Fury show he was the RIGHT winner despite throwing nearly 100 punches less… as the Ukranian bested the Gypsy King in several key areas

Oleksandr Usyk was crowned the new undisputed heavyweight champion of the world after he claimed a split-decision victory against Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia.

In what was a historic night for the sport, the pair finally collided in a huge battle that certainly lived up to the billing, with the punching stats showing that perhaps Uysk was the right winner, besting the Gypsy King in several key areas.

Usyk became the first fighter in the four-belt era to unite the belts – and is the first to be crowned undisputed heavyweight champion in 25 years – after two judges scored 115-112 and 114-113 in his favour, while the third judge scored it 114-113 to Fury.

Both fighters came out on the offensive early on, with each landing some jaw-dropping blows and it seemed Fury had taken the advantage, setting the pace in the opening rounds.

Usyk appeared to land a huge blow on the British fighter’s nose in the opening rounds, which caused problems for Fury later during the bout. Midway through the fight, Usyk seemed to target his opponent’s nose and after a couple more strikes, blood began to pour from Fury’s face.

Usyk vs Fury: Important for Oleksandr to fight for Ukraine on land

The Ukrainian would go on the offensive late on, causing his opponent to stagger before knocking him down, after landing a flurry of brutal blows to the Gypsy King’s head.

The punching stats from the fight have now been revealed, with TNT Sports Box Office stating that Fury had thrown 85 more punches than Usyk.

While the Brit threw 567 punches, Usyk threw 482 but was far more accurate with the number of strikes he connected.

Usyk would land 185 punches to Fury’s 135 while the pair would both connect 95 shots each to their opponent’s head.

It means Usyk’s punching accuracy sat at around 39 per cent, while Fury’s came in at 24 per cent.

Fury, who had fired some crunching shots into his opponent’s midriff, meanwhile landed 39 punches to Usyk’s body, but conversely, the Ukrainian landed 89.

Both men were left battered and bruised after the fight, with the Brit claiming, per ESPN, during his press conference that Oleksandr Usyk had gone to hospital with a broken jaw.

The pair will meet again later this October in their rematch and it seems both fighters are eager to get back into the ring.

‘We’ll go back to our families and I’ll see him again in October. We’ll go back, rest up,’ Fury said.

‘I believe I won the fight but I’m not going to sit and cry and make excuses. We’ll run it again in October.’
