Some of Diana‘s most iconic outfits will be featured in an upcoming auction paying homage to her fashion.
The late Princess of Wales‘s timeless looks, including a Catherine Walker skirt suit and a hat designed by Philip Somerville, are a part of the sale taking place this summer.
It follows in the footsteps of the historic 1997 Christie’s charity auction, and will see cocktail and evening dresses go under the hammer – as well as skirts, shoes and other accessories.
Los Angeles-based Julien’s Auctions will tour the garments in an exhibition, before holding the sale at The Museum of Style Icons in Ireland on 27 June.
Some of the ensembles pictured in Diana’s most photographed appearances, such as a Murray Arbeid gown worn twice in 1986: at the Phantom of the Opera premiere and to a dinner at Claridge’s for King Constantine of Greece.

Diana also wore it when she was snapped by Lord Snowdon in 1997 for her charity auction. It has an estimate of $200,000 – 400,000.
Also on offer is a pair of bright green satin evening pumps by Kurt Geiger, which the royal wore to a state banquet at the Dorchester Hotel in 1993 – and could bring in $2,000 – 4,000.
There is also an estimate of $200,000 – 400,000 for a Victor Edelstein lace evening dress worn by the princess in Germany, in 1987.
Elsewhere, a multi-coloured wide-brim hat sported by the royal during her Royal Tour in Australia in 1985 is thought to rack up $10,000 – 20,000.
A portion of the auction proceeds will benefit Muscular Dystrophy UK, the leading charity for more than 110,000 people in the UK living with one of over 60 muscle-wasting and weakening conditions.
Julien’s Auctions say: ‘Diana may have been a princess, but her allure rivaled that of a Hollywood starlet.
‘Though she left no films behind, her legacy lives on through the exquisite gowns and accessories that continue to captivate audiences, inviting them to delve deeper into her enigmatic persona.
‘She defied the constraints of royalty, both in her actions and her fashion choices, leaving behind a timeless legacy that transcends generations.’

Diana’s fashion sense never went out of style and her distinctive look had even inspired a new generation of designers and their Autumn Winter 2023 collections.
This is particularly true at French brand Jacquemus, whose new collection pays homage to Diana through a modern lens.
A series of models in the label wore replicas of Diana’s famous pearl choker, puffball skirts and Mary-Jane pumps.
Diana’s ability to match tailored blazers with athleisure, tartan on many occasions and oversized ruffles, has been echoed by other designers across the new season.
The ‘Princess Diana’s Elegance & a Royal Collection’ exhibition will open at Hong Kong’s K11 Musea on April 18, before arriving at Co. Kildare’s The Museum of Style Icons on 11 June.
