Prince Harry has opened up about the terse eight-word response he gave to King Charles upon being informed that Meghan Markle was not to accompany him to visit Queen Elizabeth II.

Two years back in September 2022, as the Queen’s health declined and the Royal Family rushed to her side, Harry was sharply told that his wife didn’t have an invitation.

While en route to Scotland to be by his grandmother, the Queen’s, side, Harry expressed his wish for Meghan’s presence to the now King Charles. It’s alleged that the then Princes of Wales bluntly refused Meghan’s attendance.

Ultimately, Meghan did not join, with Harry undertaking the journey to Aberdeen solo. In his tell-all book Spare, Harry recounts that during the trip, when Charles called to share the news, reports OK!.

“He [Charles] said I was welcome at Balmoral, but he didn’t want… her. He started to lay out his reason, which was nonsensical, and disrespectful, and I wasn’t having it,” Harry explained. The duke recalls stating to Charles: “Don’t ever speak about my wife that way.”

Continuing, Harry noted that his father fumbled with a half-hearted apology, reasoning that he wished to avoid a congregation of people; using the excuse that no other spouses were attending, including Kate, hence Meghan should not. Harry retorted sharply, saying that all Charles needed to do was explain just that.

The Queen passed away at Balmoral, her “happy place,” at 3.10pm as per her official death certificate, but Harry only arrived at the nearby Aberdeen International Airport at 6.64pm.

This revelation of hidden tension comes as Meghan was spotted over the weekend giving a talk at her close friend Oprah Winfrey’s book club session in California. During her talk, Meghan’s children’s book The Bench, and Prince Harry’s autobiography Spare were displayed – in the ‘hometown heroes’ section of the shop, which celebrates local authors.
