Money man, Martin Lewis, made an ill-timed brag about his busy career just hours before Angellica Bell broke down on Celebrity Big Brother over her ‘axe’ from the Money Show. Angellica, 49, had hosted the popular programme alongside Martin, 52, for six years before she was suddenly replaced by Olympian, Jeanette Kwakye, 42, in 2023.
There were rumours of a feud between Martin and Angellica, although neither spoke of any fallout. However, shortly before the CBBC star burst into tears on CBB as she discussed the tough time she had following her exit – Martin was bragging about his career.
Angellica Bell was in tears on Celebrity Big Brother as she discussed her shock exit from The Martin Lewis Money Show
Claiming he’d had to turn down Celebrity Traitors because he was ‘so busy’ with other projects, he took to Instagram, saying: “I’m no Traitor, sadly. I’ve got FOMO [fear of missing out] looking at the Celebrity Traitors line up. I was asked if I wanted to do it, but said no as I couldn’t commit the time.”
Martin went on to admit he hadn’t watched the smash-hit show when he was offered a place on the celebrity version, but he has since caught up and is ‘gutted’ to be missing out.
He added: “I hadn’t watched it then, but watched the last series after that and loved it. So now I feel a little gutted – though I still don’t have the time. Sigh!”
His comments came shortly before Angellica opened up about the toll leaving Martin’s Money Show had taken her as she sat in the Diary Room on CBB.
The presenter, who boasts an impressive 25 years of TV presenting experience, had worked on the show since 2017, and signed up to present the rebranded version of The Gadget Show – Shop Smart, Save Money on Channel 5.
Angellica said it took her a ‘long time’ to get over her sudden exit from the show
However, it was then reported that the show move presented a ‘conflict of interest’, and Angellica was swiftly swiped from the schedule and replaced by Olympian, Jeanette.
Reflecting on the tense time, she said, sniffling: “Before I came in here, I was a little bit scared. The press were asking me if I would talk about the Martin Lewis Show and stuff, it took me a long time to get over that.
“I was so grateful to all of the audience who messaged me about it, also to other celebrities who contacted me and stuff because those messages are what got me through.
“That’s why I wanted to come onto this show and tap into my old self because it’s taken me a long time. Every cloud.”
Speaking to the Mirror, Angellica’s friend, CBBC co-host Andrew Hayden-Smith, said he thought she would mention what really happened with Martin, but only if the conversation came up, saying: “Maybe, if it comes up. I did ask her if she would address it, and she said ‘yeah, if it comes up in conversation’. It happened, you know?”
However, when contacted about rumours of a rift between Angellica and Martin, ITV said all was well between the pair, issuing a statement saying: “Angellica is not working on the Martin Lewis Money Show Live, however, the relationship with her remains amicable and we are working with her on other forthcoming programmes.”
