Tyson Fury Encourages Anthony Joshua to Maintain Winning Streak in Anticipation of Potential Future Showdown

Tyson Fury has made it clear that if his fellow Briton “keeps going and keeps winning,” fighting Anthony Joshua will be a part of his next bout schedule.

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has won four times after losing to Oleksandr Usyk twice in 2021 and 2022. His most recent victory came last month in Riyadh via second-round knockout over former UFC fighter Francis Ngannou.

Fury, the WBC champion, is getting ready to face Usyk, the WBA, IBF, and WBO champion, on May 18 at the same location in an attempt to become the century’s first undisputed heavyweight champion.

In response, Fury told the PA news agency, “Yeah, for sure-if he keeps going and keeps winning, like I’m going to keep doing.” Joshua is undoubtedly a factor in what comes after that.

“In any case, even if we were fifty years old and still made an incredible amount of money, AJ and I could still fight at Wembley,” he continued. That seems like true facts to me.

Fury talked about five fights in February, shortly after the fight with Usyk was rescheduled for May. These fights included two with Usyk, a rematch with Joshua (perhaps twice), and a rematch with Ngannou, whom he defeated by split decision in October.

That was “just the start,” according to Fury.Five battles to pique your interest.

Over the next few years, Fury hinted at a desire to fight five to ten times (Owen Humphreys/PA).

Turki Alalshikh, a Saudi advisor who has assisted in organizing significant boxing events, stated during a phone call that was replayed over a top-table microphone during a press conference in Morecambe on Wednesday that he wanted Tyson to compete for five, seven, or ten more fights.

Fury then said to PA, “Ten-fight plan.” Not bad for ten fights for more than a billion dollars, is it?

When they fought in October of last year, Fury, who claimed to think Joshua “did really well” against Ngannou, was taken out by the mixed martial artist in the third round.

About that competition, he remarked, “Just a fight.” I had a good night and a good training camp.

My bank account and all the titles I’ve acquired throughout the years are sufficient evidence of my achievement.Fury Tyson

“That’s how it’s always been—I go somewhere, do my work, get paid, leave, and come home—and I’ve been successful at doing that throughout my career.”

The fight between Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) and Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs), another undefeated fighter, was originally set for February 17, but it was rescheduled fifteen days earlier after the former sustained a gash above his right eye during sparring.

Fury at Wednesday’s press conference described himself as being in “fantastic shape” and expressed his confidence he will defeat Usyk, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion who made his heavyweight debut in 2019, stressing that “size really matters”.

The 35-year-old added that it was “my time, my destiny, my era and my generation”.

And when asked if the fight was an opportunity to prove a point to people, he told PA: “I don’t really have to prove much to anybody to be honest. My bank balance alone proves I’m a success, and all the titles I’ve won along the way.

“I’m not really proving anybody wrong or right any more, I’m just doing it for the fun and love of the game really.

“I could have retired maybe 10 years ago and lived a very nice life. However, I do it because, let’s face facts, I don’t really have much else to do other than taking the kids to school, emptying the bins and picking up dog s**t.

“But other than that, boxing is my love. I’ll continue to do it until I can’t do any more.”
