Mike Tyson’s victory over Trevor Berbick in 1986, particularly the second-round demolition, is regarded as his finest performance, as stated by his former trainer Teddy Atlas. At the tender age of 20, Tyson claimed the WBC heavyweight world championship by defeating Berbick in Las Vegas. Despite his youth, it was Tyson’s 28th professional fight, and he showcased dominance from the very beginning. With 44 wins out of 58 fights ending in knockouts, Tyson’s career concluded with an impressive record, and Atlas commended his stoppage of Berbick.

Tyson delivered a powerful blow to his opponent’s body, followed by a left hook to the head, causing the older man to fall for the second time during the fight, prompting referee Mills Lane to stop the bout. Teddy Atlas, who assisted Cus D’Amato in training Tyson, expressed satisfaction with his fighter’s performance over three decades ago. When asked about Tyson’s best-ever knockout during an interview with SportsCenter, Atlas confidently responded, “Oh, that’s an easy one. It has to be Trevor Berbick. There was no other opening, so he lands a left hook on the temple, and what happens next is incredible. Berbick falls in one direction, then the other. He falls backward, gets up, falls again, and even goes through the ropes. It was a truly dramatic knockout, especially considering it was for the heavyweight title.”

Berbick acknowledged after the fight that he was unable to anticipate Tyson’s punches.

“He’s an extremely powerful and precise puncher,” Berbick admitted. “I didn’t even see the punch that knocked me down.

“I made a foolish error by trying to prove myself against him in the early rounds.”

Following the fight, Tyson went on to establish his dominance in the division, experiencing his first defeat only in 1990 against Buster Douglas in a surprising upset.

There have been discussions about Tyson potentially returning to the ring for his 59th professional bout in the upcoming months, as speculation surrounding the 53-year-old’s comeback continues to gain momentum.
