Dana White slams the state of boxing with Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk on the verge of collapsing

UFC president White is not impressed with the lack of movement on Fury vs Usyk and how often it seems to happen in boxing.

Dana White slams the state of boxing with Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk on the verge of collapsing

Dana White has hit out at the sport of boxing, as the fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk remains up in the air, with no contracts signed.

Fury and Usyk share the four heavyweight world title belts between them, with the Ukrainian owning three of the major titles to Fury’s WBC version.

There is basically no fight in boxing more obvious to make than one that would crown an undisputed heavyweight champions for the first time since Lennox Lewis in April 2000.

The pair have been arguing back and forth on social media about different stipulations to get the fight on, leading to the British boxer to claim he’s on a blackout until the fight is agreed.

It’s hardly new from the Mancunian to see the exact same tactics that he seems to get involved before all of his fights, and it’s getting rather boring.

Certainly it seemed to be the case as he attempted to get a unification fight on with Anthony Joshua, before eventually facing Deontay Wilder for the second time.

With the fight meant to be taking place in less than six weeks time, on April 29th, there is questions if it will happen, and White thinks it’s a problem in boxing.

“Welcome to boxing boys!,” the UFC chief said.

“I mean, is it shocking? Yes! Is it shocking? No!

“It’s just, that is boxing. It’s the way that sport always seems to play out. The big fights that should happen never do, and when they do it’s always late.

“That’s the stuff that used to drive me crazy as a fan and it’s literally part of how I designed this company not to be.”

White certainly has a point, Wilder and Joshua also failed to make a fight work when the pair held the titles, things are easier for him.

Whilst boxing has to make fights work across promotions, the UFC is just the biggest promotion in MMA and isn’t the entire sport.

The 53-year-old has never had to make a fight work between one of his fighters and one from Bellator, for example, and it’s likely it would never happen.

Life isn’t perfect for White either, when it comes to matchmaking, after he annoyed UFC welterweight champions Leon Edwards on Saturday.

The British fighter beat Kamaru Usman, for the second time, do defend his title in England, only to be told Colby Covington would be his next opponent.

Clearly the Birmingham striker had someone else in mind than the loudmouth American, who ripped into Britain during his visit.

Edwards wants the winner of Jorge Masvidal vs Gilbert Burns, with lightweight champion Islam Makhachev putting his name forward for the fight.
