Even if you’re not a massive football fan, you’re bound to be engrossed by Netflix’s new documentary about David Beckham.

Focussing on his early career, the four-part series goes into his relationship with Victoria Beckham and their private life,

as well as detailing how Beckham became one of the first footballers to create a ‘personal brand’.

Gary Neville also features as one of his teammates and close friends, even giving a speech at their wedding. But are Gary and David still friends now?

Gary Neville played football with David Beckham for Manchester United between 1992 – 2011, and was named captain after Roy Keane left the club in November 2005.

Beckham, meanwhile, played for them between 1992 – 2003.

The pair stayed bunked together during away games and tournaments, with Gary revealing they actually weren’t that compatible. “I had two big problems with Becks (well, he had with me),” he joked (via The Mirror.) “I used to go to bed at 9 pm and wake up at 5 am, he would stay up until 11 pm and want to wake up at 8 am. So essentially he was keeping me up from 9 until 11 and then I was getting him up at 5 in the morning, so it just wasn’t working at all.”

What do Gary Neville and David say about each other in BECKHAM?
In the Netflix documentary, Gary is interviewed about BECKHAM’s early career and performance under Sir Alex Ferguson, who was manager of Man United at the time. They often referred to each other as brothers who came through the ranks together.

When David tied the knot to Victoria in 1999, Gary was his best man, and gave a speech at their wedding (apparently wearing a sarong, to poke fun at David’s memorable fashion choice.)

“Imagine, I was only 24 and best man for one of the most famous footballers who’s ever lived,” Neville said about the nuptials. “Victoria and the Spice Girls were a phenomenon, too. I had to speak for 15 minutes in a room full of famous performers and try to be funny. I’m no standup comic so it was hard work but I think it went OK. I prepared well!”
Are David Beckham and Gary Neville still friends?
Over two decades on, it’s safe to say David and Gary are still the best of friends. Gary was at the launch event for BECKHAM on 3rd October, and also took to Instagram to share his congratulations to David for the documentary.

“A fantastic night ❤️” He wrote. “Congratulations to David and the whole team on the launch of his Netflix documentary. It’s brilliant!”
David has also appeared on Gary’s podcast Stick To Football, while they regularly wish each other a happy birthday with sweet throwback snaps on social media:

According to Televisual, the pair are also reportedly working on an Amazon Prime Video documentary together, about the 1998-99 season, when Manchester United won the treble: The Premiere League, the FA Cup and the Champions League. It will be created by David’s production company, Studio 99, and Gary’s Buzz16 production company.
