Recently, Meghan Markle’s comments about her “rotten time” in the UK stirred quite a bit of controversy. Royal expert Michael Cole was quick to push back against Meghan’s statements. He argued that Meghan was initially welcomed with open arms and celebrated as a breath of fresh air in the royal family. According to Cole, the couple had a positive reception back in 2017, and their wedding was met with a warm public response.

On the other hand, Newsweek’s Bataa Unar Sargon painted a different picture. Sargon suggested that Americans now view Harry and Meghan as a type of celebrity known more for their wealth and privilege than for any particular talent. Despite plans for new projects in 2024, many haven’t materialized yet. The couple’s brief visit to Nigeria in May, while notable, was largely overshadowed by their royal connections, which played a significant role in their fame and wealth.

Sargon also criticized Meghan for not appreciating her royal privileges. He pointed out that before meeting Harry, Meghan was relatively unknown, and her transition into royal life came with substantial public support and financial backing. The grandeur of their wedding, funded by taxpayers, seemed to contrast sharply with Meghan’s claims of dissatisfaction.

Critics argue that Meghan’s complaints about her time in the UK seem misplaced given the lavish lifestyle she enjoyed. From a multi-million dollar wedding to expensive jewelry and a taxpayer-funded residence, Meghan’s experience was far from a “rotten time,” according to her critics. They also questioned why, after receiving so much, Meghan is now critical of the royal family and their role in her life.

Some speculate that Meghan and Harry’s departure from the UK and their subsequent media ventures may have fueled their dissatisfaction. Despite lucrative contracts with Netflix and Spotify, these projects haven’t fully lived up to their potential. Critics argue that the couple’s public complaints and controversial content may be a way to stay relevant and maintain media attention.

In addition to their media ventures, Meghan’s criticism seems to overshadow the benefits she received while part of the royal family. Critics argue that Meghan’s ongoing complaints and criticisms of the royals, combined with her lucrative opportunities since leaving the UK, suggest a sense of entitlement and a lack of gratitude.
