The relationship between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry and the rest of the royal family hasn’t been improving lately.

Amid the difficulties they have been going through with King Charles and the Princess of Wales’ health, people hoped they would make amends, but things seem to be taking the opposite turn.

Prince Harry was denied his request to stay at Windsor Castle during his visit to the UK, and the King refused to see him, but the Duke of Sussex was seen hanging out with Princess Diana’s family, so at least he wasn’t alone during his visit.

Shortly after, Meghan Markle decided to make a statement with her fashion choices, sporting a diamond necklace belonging to Diana, which Prince Harry gifted her. It’s clear which side the Duchess of Sussex is on.

Meghan Markle’s choice of jewels at the latest reception in Nigeria quickly caught people’s attention. Amid tensions with the royal family, she chose to wear Princess Diana’s cross necklace, as a tribute to her late mother-in-law.

According to PEOPLE, the diamond necklace the Duchess of Sussex recently wore was a gift from Prince Harry. Clearly, he wanted her to have a special token from his mother, who Meghan never got to meet. This is not the first time she has chosen to wear pieces of jewelry and clothing belonging to the late Princess of Wales. She has worn her butterfly earrings and an aquamarine ring of hers, as well as clothes from her closet. She has also, on a few occasions, emulated her fashion choices as a small tribute.

This time, however, it seems to carry a special significance. For a long time now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been at odds with the rest of the royal family, and the distance between them seems to have only gotten bigger following King Charles and Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis, despite fans hoping it would be the chance for reconciliation.

Prince Harry recently returned to the United Kingdom for a visit, and while sources claimed he wanted to meet his father, the King allegedly refused to see him. The younger Prince was seen catching up with the Spencers, his mother’s side of the family, instead, and now Meghan Markle appears to be showcasing where her loyalties lie by wearing Diana’s jewels.

Why King Charles Refused To Meet Prince Harry

A reunion between the younger Prince and King Charles wasn’t possible, and it wasn’t because Prince Harry didn’t want to see him. Ever since King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, reports and rumors about a potential reconciliation have been going around, but it doesn’t sound as if the King is open to that.

A spokesperson made a short statement to E! about why King Charles had refused to see his youngest, and while it didn’t reference the rift in the royal family in any way, it still led to speculation.

“In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the U.K. this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program,” the spokesperson shared.

A rep from the Prince’s responded quickly, sounding understanding but disappointed. The rep said that Prince Harry was “understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities” but that he “hopes to see him soon.”

While Prince Harry managed to meet up with his mother’s family, it doesn’t sound as if a reunion with the royal family will be possible any time soon.
