Charlene White broke down in tears live on Thursday’s Loose Women, as she opened up about adjusting to life without her mum, with her co-stars rushing into comfort her.

ITV News anchor Charlene was back at the helm of the Loose Women panel to be joined by Judi Love, Linda Robson and Olivia Attwood and one of the first topics of discussion on the hour long broadcast was coping with grief, with the conversation triggered by reports of Paul O’Grady’s husband planning to jet away for Easter, as he wanted to be ‘as far away as possible’ from where the late TV icon died, on the first anniversary of his sudden passing.

During the candid chat, Charlene opened up about losing her mum at a young age and how, she became overcome with grief at not having her around, she fell pregnant with her first child and it hit her the ‘one person’ she wanted around for help and guidance wasn’t there.

Recalling the moment when it hit her particularly hard, Charlene explained: “I was in the bath looking at my bump and that was the one moment since she died that I completely lost it. I just cried and cried and cried. And I just couldn’t stop, because grief sort of presents itself when you least expect it.”

She continued: “There were so many wonderful women in my life who wanted to…not replace, but be that missing part and I think I pushed them away, because the reality is, is that no-one knows me like my mum. So if I needed help, my mum would just know; if I was upset my mum would just know, because we’re connected to them.”

The tears came for Charlene when she admitted feeling ‘jealous’ of people having kids who did have their mums around, with her putting a tissue to her eyes and struggling to get her words out, as Judi rushed from the other end of the panel to go and give her a cuddle.

Still in tears, Charlene added: “I would feel jealous, because their mum’s knew when they needed them and I knew when I needed my mum and she wasn’t,” as Linda assured her: “She was there, because she’s watching over you.”
