SHOCKING REVELATION — Carol Kirkwood Breaks Down Over Collapsed Marriage!

One of the BBC‘s most familiar faces has opened up about the private struggles she has faced off-air, which she says are world apart from her happy on-screen persona.

Carol Kirkwood, 63, who has been a staple of daytime  TV since 1997 as a weatherwoman, recently reflected on her divorce from Scottish property developer Jimmy Kirkwood back in 2008.

She says this was a particularly difficult time in her life, as despite losing the man she had been married to for 18 years, she had no option but to remain smiley on-screen.

The star told Candis magazine: ‘I’d still have to be smiling Carol on-screen.

‘I’d come off-air – we broadcast from the Blue Peter gardens in those days – go to the Ladies, have a good cry, and then reapply my eye make-up before stepping in front of the cameras again…

‘In a funny way, though, it helped with the healing process. I put my grief into a compartment that I kept separate from my work, otherwise I’d have ended up in a puddle of tears.’

She says this was a particularly difficult time in her life, as despite losing the man she had been married to for 18 years, she had no option but to remain smiley on-screen as a BBC weatherwoman

Carol said that, in its own way, her job ‘kept her going’ as she went through the painful separation.

This is because it forced her to develop a ‘public face’ and a ‘private face’.

But while Carol’s first marriage did not work out, she went on to find love again with police officer Steve Randall, who she married in 2023.

The weatherwoman previously joked that she is ‘punching’ with her new partner.

She described him as ‘very romantic and very generous’ to PA and described him as a ‘lovely man’.

She reminisced that the early stages of their romance were ‘nice’ as they started out as friends.

When their relationship eventually turned romantic, he even turned down Carol’s offer to sell her home.

Carol told The Times: ‘I offered to sell my home so we could buy a place together, but he’s happy living here. He’s a keeper. He’s a very good cook and tidy as well, tidier than I am.’

But while Carol’s first marriage did not work out, she went on to find love again with police officer Steve Randall, who she married in 2023

At the time of their meeting, the star said she was ‘happily single’ after taking some time out of dating to ‘find herself’ following the breakdown of her almost 20-year-long marriage.

The TV personality told Saga: ‘Meeting my husband Steve was fate.

‘We were at a function neither of us wanted to go to. It was a Sliding Doors moment – if I hadn’t gone, we would never have met. We chatted, he gave me his number, and ages later, we met for coffee.’

Carol said it was ultimately a ‘shock’ when Steve proposed, despite the pair previously discussing marriage.

During the pair’s eventual wedding at Cliveden House in Buckinghamshire, the couple wrote their own vows and chose to have no guests at the ‘perfect’, private ceremony.

Nigel Farage demands deportation of ‘Britain-hating extremist’ welcomed by Labour as he pens letter to Shabana Mahmood

Robert Jenrick lashes out on GB News over el-Fattah being allowed to come back to the UK as historic tweets emerge |

Sir Keir Starmer said he was ‘delighted’ to welcome the ‘extremist’ to Britain

Nigel Farage has written to the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, urging her to revoke the British citizenship of Egyptian activist Alaa Abd el-Fattah and order his deportation from the United Kingdom.

The Reform UK leader said he was “deeply concerned” by Mr Abd el-Fattah’s return to Britain following his release from detention in Egypt.

Sir Keir Starmer had earlier said he was “delighted” to welcome Mr Abd el-Fattah to the UK after Cairo lifted a travel ban, thanking President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for his role in securing the activist’s release.

Mr Farage described that response as “an extraordinary error of judgment”, pointing to historic social media posts allegedly written by Mr Abd el-Fattah between 2010 and 2012.

Those posts, which have circulated widely online since his arrival, include comments calling for the killing of Zionists, referring to British people as “dogs and monkeys”, and suggesting that police should be killed.

Mr Abd el-Fattah has also been accused of expressing support for suicide bombings.

“These abhorrent posts show Mr el-Fattah to hold views which are completely opposed to our British way of life,” Mr Farage wrote.

He added that claims Downing Street had been unaware of the comments only “compound the Prime Minister’s ineptitude”.

Nigel Farage has written to the Home Secretary

The Reform UK leader also criticised the breadth of political support that had previously been mobilised on Mr Abd el-Fattah’s behalf.

His letter notes that 35 Labour MPs and peers wrote to the then foreign secretary, David Lammy, calling for his release, alongside six Conservative MPs, 34 Liberal Democrat parliamentarians, seven SNP MPs and all four Green Party MPs.

“Indeed, it was the Conservatives who granted citizenship to Mr el-Fattah in 2021 while he was still imprisoned,” Mr Farage wrote.

“That none of those parties carried out basic due diligence on this unpleasant individual is, frankly, astonishing.”

Nigel Farage wants el-Fattah’s deportation | PA

Mr Abd el-Fattah became a British citizen through his mother, who was born in the UK, under a legal route that grants automatic citizenship by descent.

At the time, applicants using this route were no longer subject to the usual “good character” test, following a Supreme Court ruling that the requirement breached the European Convention on Human Rights. As a result, Home Office officials did not assess his past statements or conduct.

Mr Farage argued that the Home Secretary has the power to act now. “It should go without saying that anyone who possesses racist and anti-British views such as those of Mr el-Fattah should not be allowed into the UK,” he wrote.

“As Home Secretary, it is within your power to revoke his citizenship and order his deportation. I strongly urge you to do so.”

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi | REUTERSThe controversy has reignited calls from Conservative figures to leave the ECHR, which Labour opposes.

Jewish groups have also demanded that Mr Abd el-Fattah’s citizenship be reviewed. No 10 has said the Prime Minister was unaware of the social media posts when he welcomed Mr Abd el-Fattah to Britain, where he is due to be reunited with his teenage son.

The Home Office has not yet indicated whether it will consider revoking his citizenship, but Mr Farage has confirmed he has referred the matter to counter-terrorism police, ensuring the issue is unlikely to fade quickly from the political agenda.

A true miracle: After Losing Two Sisters to Cancer, Coleen Nolan Fights Back Tears Upon Learning Her Brother Has the Same Cruel Disease – But Miraculously, ‘The Cancer Is Gone’. Coleen Nolan’s Brother Survives Against the Odds After Both Sisters Died of the Same Illness

Brian Nolan, the older brother of Loose Women star Coleen Nolan, has shared an emotional and uplifting update on his health: he is now cancer-free following surgery for prostate cancer.

Appearing on Loose Women, the 70-year-old revealed that just four months ago, he was diagnosed shortly after the devastating loss of his sister Linda Nolan, who died after a two-decade battle with breast cancer. Another sister, Bernie, also passed away from the same disease in 2013.

Brian shared his positive news on Loose Women (Credit: ITV)

Brian told the panel that his cancer had been “caged within the prostate gland”, making him a candidate for a Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy (RALP). The surgery, which he underwent recently, successfully removed the entire cancer along with the prostate.

“I got the call from my surgeon to say my cancer was completely gone and my bloods are back to normal,” Brian said, visibly emotional as Coleen and the Loose Women team celebrated his good news.

He spent just 18 hours in the hospital following the operation and now feels incredibly fortunate. “I know I’ve been very lucky,” he said, stressing how early detection made all the difference. Now, he wants to become an advocate for better screening and awareness for prostate cancer.

Brian shared that it all started with a bladder issue that prompted a visit to his GP. From there, things moved quickly: an inspection, an MRI scan, and finally a biopsy that confirmed the diagnosis—all within 6–7 weeks.

Coleen admitted she was surprised at how quickly her brother recovered, saying, “I was quite astounded by how quick your recovery actually was.” Brian agreed but added, “I don’t want to preach, but catching it early made everything possible.”

Chris Rea’s Final Act of Love: The Christmas Classic He Gave to His Wife

Chris Rea gave his beloved wife Joan an incredible gift after his battle with cancer years ago, which brought the childhood sweethearts even closer together.

The hitmaker passed away on Monday at the age of 74 after a short illness, with his wife and their daughters Josie and Julia paying tribute to the ‘beloved’ star.

In his final  TV interview on BBC’s Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing in 2020, Chris opened up about his health battles and revealed that he’d gifted Joan the rights to his all his songs including festive hit Driving Home For Christmas.

Middlesbrough-born Chris, who met Joan when he was just 16, had been dogged with serious health issues including peritonitis, pancreatic cancer and diabetes. In 2017, it was revealed he needed to inject insulin seven times a day.

Host Bob Mortimer spoke of his own illnesses and said: ‘The journey of recovery made me incredibly close to my wife,’.

Chris agreed saying: ‘It was exactly the same for me. I was in hospital and the pancreatic cancer nurse comes in and tells me ‘it’s not grade three cancer phone your wife!’.

‘So I phone my wife and she pulled the car over and burst into tears’.

Before laughing: ‘I gave her all the money, all the rights to all the songs, and now she won’t give them back,’.

The royalties from the iconic Christmas makes an estimated £210K a year and helped Chris amass a fortune in supercars and property since its 1986 release.

It has been used in adverts, including this year’s M&S offering featuring Dawn French, and has made a reappearance on the UK Singles Chart every year since 2007, including making number 10 in 2021.

It certainly was not a one-hit wonder due to songs such as Road to Hell helping Chris to sell 30 million records. But the much-loved Christmas hit alone made the Middlesbrough rocker more than £7million of his £15million fortune over the past 39 years.

Elsewhere in his final interview, Chris revealed that he was actually banned from the road when writing  Driving Home For Christmas.

‘I was on the dole when I wrote that, my manager had just left me, I’d just been banned from driving,’

‘My now wife Joan had to drive down to London and pick me up in the mini and take me home and that’s when I wrote it’.

The singer’s final Instagram post featured a car on a snowy motorway with a road sign reading: ‘Driving home for Christmas with a thousand memories’.

In the post, shared on Sunday, he added a caption reading: ‘Top to toe in tailbacks If it’s a white Christmas, let’s hope the journey’s a smooth one.’

Announcing his passing, his family said in a statement: ‘It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Chris.

‘He passed away peacefully in hospital earlier today following a short illness, surrounded by his family.’

Tributes swiftly flooded in for the star on Twitter, with many referencing his music, his love of cars and the cruel irony of his passing being so close to Christmas.

Chris suffered a major health scare during his career when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the age of 33.

He had part of his pancreas removed along with his gall bladder and part of his liver, but went on to make a recovery and lived with diabetes as well as kidney problems.

He also suffered a stroke in 2016 but he recovered and went on to release two more albums Road Songs For Lovers in 2017 and One Fine Day in 2019.

Chris previously revealed: ‘I’ve had nine major operations in ten years. A lot of it is to do with something called retroperitoneal fibrosis, where the internal tissues attack each other. No one knew it existed 20 years ago, and it’s completely unpredictable.

‘It’s affected the colon, the pancreas, the gall bladder, the liver – and then I get a stroke.’

Speaking of his successes and impact on his health, he said: ‘I made a lot of money, but you can dangerously let it lead you on…

‘It depends what company you keep. I once said to Michael Winner, ‘I’m the poorest man on this Barbados beach.’ On days like today, the richest man in the world is the one who hasn’t got a bad shoulder.’

Chris was born in Middlesbrough and didn’t start making music until he was in his 20s when he learned to play the guitar and joined several local bands before landing a solo record deal with Magnet Records.

He released his first album Whatever Happened to Benny Santini? in 1978 and scored a US hit with the single Fool (If You Think It’s Over) and earned himself a Grammy Award nomination for best new artist.

The star continued to record albums but didn’t score a big hit in his native UK until he released Dancing with Strangers in 1987 while 1989’s The Road to Hell featured his two-part track of the same name which became one of his most famous tunes.

His other best known song is the festive track Driving Home For Christmas which was originally released as a B-side to the single Hello Friend in 1986. He re-recorded the tracl in 1988 and it featured on his 1988 album New Light Through Old Windows.

According to the BBC, he previously admitted he didn’t want to release the track but his record company forced him to.

He said: ‘I didn’t need a Christmas song hanging around at that point. I did everything I could to get them not to release that record. Thankfully they did!’

FINAL FAREWELL: A TRUE LEGEND FORCED OUT! THE FAREWELL NO ONE SAW COMING!

FINAL FAREWELL: A TRUE LEGEND FORCED OUT! THE FAREWELL NO ONE SAW COMING!

Emmerdale is delivering a devastating blow without bloodshed: an iconic character can be forced to leave the village.

And being forced means it’s not a temporary vacation or a gentle relocation.

It’s a departure because staying would be dangerous, because staying would make them a sacrificial lamb, or because staying would destroy those they love.

Celia and Ray are tightening their grip, and in situations like this, the villains often choose a very cruel move: attacking the “symbolically valuable person.”

Because when someone with significant status in the village is forced out of Emmerdale, the entire community is shaken. People will panic, they will be afraid, they will think, “If even that person is forced to leave, what am I?” And that collective fear makes it easier for the villains to hide and manipulate.

The scary thing is that the reasons for being forced to leave often sound perfectly reasonable. It might be “leaving for safety,” “leaving to avoid trouble,” “leaving to prevent the family from being implicated.” But in reality, it’s a devastating blow: forcing someone to leave where they belong, depriving them of their support network, their voice, and their ability to resist. And if the leaving icon is in a state of panic, then it’s a psychological victory for Celia.

The leaving scene in Soap is often more than just packing a suitcase. It’s the gaze, the parting words, the things left unsaid. The one left behind will blame themselves: if only they had done things differently. The one leaving will feel their life stolen. And Emmerdale loves to let this feeling linger, because it creates the motivation for revenge later on.

According to insiders, Janette had always managed the couple’s money throughout their marriage. A source told The Mirror: “She controlled the purse strings so kept him in line. Now he’s on his own it has all spiralled out of control.”

Without Janette, Le Vell struggled to manage his finances. The actor was left to navigate life as a single man with no one to oversee his significant income of £250k annually from Corrie.

Reports suggest that this was the beginning of his financial downfall, leading to mounting debts and poor financial decisions that would come back to haunt him.

Despite his financial struggles, a pal told the publication how the actor was determined to move on. The insider explained: “He sees this as another life lesson – he is not wallowing in self-pity.

“It’s a bit of a mystery to his friends how he has found himself in such a pickle, especially as he was suspended on full pay during the trial.”

In 2013, the Manchester-born star faced a highly publicised trial that further destabilised his life and finances. Accused of child sex offenses, the actor spent months fighting to clear his name.

Ultimately, he was acquitted of all charges, but the damage to his reputation and his wallet was substantial. The trial reportedly cost Le Vell £200,000 in legal fees.

Ministry of Justice rules prevented him from recouping the costs because he was deemed capable of paying for his own defence. This financial blow, combined with the emotional toll of the accusations, left him struggling to recover.

A source told The Sun: “He had false accusations hanging over him for years and couldn’t work.” Despite the acquittal, the trial marked a turning point in Le Vell’s personal and financial life, leaving him with mounting debts and a tarnished public image.

By 2018, Le Vell’s financial troubles reached a breaking point. Reports emerged that the actor owed a six-figure tax bill that he couldn’t pay, prompting HM Revenue and Customs to petition the High Court.

The court officially declared him bankrupt under his real name, Michael Robert Turner. Le Vell allegedly ignored multiple warnings to settle his affairs, resulting in legal threats being delivered to his girlfriend’s home in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.

The bankruptcy was a humiliating chapter for the actor, whose debts had spiralled out of control after years of financial mismanagement and legal fees.

Despite the setback, Le Vell’s friends described him as resilient and eager to move forward. “Things are on the up, he is loving work and he is not going to let this define him,” an insider said.

Le Vell was discharged from the legal status in 2019 a year after being declared bankrupt allowing the star to move on from his money woes as he can now open a new bank account after his account was frozen.

An insider told The Mirror: “Michael is over the moon that this hell has finally ended.”
