Incensed Viewers Accuse Dan + Shay of Ruining ‘The Voice’

Like any fandom worth its salt, The Voice viewers are notoriously resistant to change. Many were still mourning longtime coach Blake Shelton’s departure when his wife, Gwen Stefani, announced her exit. And two-time champ Niall Horan devastated fans when he announced he would not return for season 25.

We’re only two episodes deep into Season 25, but if social media is any indication, many viewers have yet to warm to Dan + Shay. The pop-country twosome took over for Horan as the first coaching duo.

There’s no clear consensus on exactly what viewers’ beef is with the “Speechless” singers. Maybe some are having trouble telling the two apart? “My goal before blinds are over is to remember which one is Dan and which one is Shay,” one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Another user complained, “Dan and Shay have ruined The Voice for me! I can not stand listening to them, never mind watching them!!”

“I don’t know about Dan + Shay as coaches on #TheVoice,” another user commented. “They’re a little too aggressive right out of the gate.”

Another user seemed to agree. “They are too over the top right out of the gate. They talk too much and cut everyone off.”

Coaches Dan + Shay Are Feeling Confident Ahead of The Voice Premiere

Some viewers simply see a case of “too many cooks in the kitchen.” “Refocus on the singers they are the reason we tune in, less about judges egos, remind dan&shay that they get 1/4 of the time not 2/5,” an X user wrote.

One viewer even felt compelled to comment directly on the “Tequila” pair’s personal Twitter account. “Can’t wait til the season ends so I never have to see or hear you again,” they wrote.

The Duo Is Still Pretty Excited To Help Aspiring Artists

While a good chunk of social media may not be thrilled to have Dan + Shay on The Voice, the pair themselves are pretty thrilled at the opportunity to help shape music’s next generation.

“We felt like we were well equipped to really help people on that show, helping new artists along, and making them better — better people and better artists,” Dan Smyers told Variety in September 2023. “We’ve made a lot of mistakes in our life, and have a lot of wisdom to share through those mistakes that we’re gonna be able to share with those artists.”

As they gear up for their coaching duties on The Voice, Dan + Shay jokingly claim that former coach Blake Shelton won’t give them any tips. For those who may not know, the pair will be will be joining the NBC singing competition series as a coach duo in Season 25.

Dan + Shay Say Blake Shelton “Stopped Answering Our Calls” About The Voice
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney still can’t believe that they’ll be the first duo to ever sit on the double red chair. Amid preparation for their performance on the CMA Awards, the two talked to Audacy’s Sabrina From Queens, quipping that they’re not getting any help from Shelton.

Blake Shelton 'Really Agonized' Over Leaving 'The Voice' | Us Weekly

“We tried to call Blake, he stopped answering our calls,” Smyer said. “I think he changed his number, got too big time.”

Smyers nonetheless quickly took back what he said, saying “No, Blake’s amazing.” He then added, “Reba is amazing,” too.

Reflecting on the milestone, Smyer stated that it’s an honor to take over the historic double chair. He subsequently described their experience so far as “crazy.”

“I don’t know why they chose us, but we got a big ol’ double chair — two chairs, one button. We gotta be locked in,” Smyers said.

While Season 24 is still ongoing, Dan + Shay have already taken on some coaching responsibilities for Season 25. For those who may not know, Blind Auditions for Seasons 24 and 25 were filmed in July. The auditions of the upcoming season were taped on July 24 to 27 with Dan+Shay joining fellow coaches Reba McEntire, Chance The Rapper and John Legend.\

They Temporarily Replace Niall Horan for Season 24 Knockout Round Rehearsals

During Team Niall’s preparation for the Season 24 Knockout Rounds, the country duo temporarily took over Niall Horan’s coaching responsibilities. On the show, the former One Direction member introduced his team to the duo who revealed themselves while wearing Horan’s masks.

“I know you’re coming on here for season 25, so it’s good practice for you guys,” Horan said. “I’ll send you all the info on the team. I’ll send videos, I’ll introduce you to them all so you can get to know them before you rock up here.”

Smyers and Mooney were joined by new mega mentor Wynonna Judd during rehearsals.

“This is gonna be so much fun, obviously, man, we’re always here for you,” Mooney said. “I heard you got a stacked team, so we’re pretty excited.”

As they gear up for the role, Horan told the duo that he wants his artists to unleash their individuality.

“Tell them to connect to the song as much as they can,” he said. “So if you can do that for me while I’m away, no pressure, boys. Keep in touch, boys, I love you very much.”

Dan + Shay Tease Fans With Cryptic Post About Upcoming Announcement

Pop-country duo Dan + Shay made their coaching debut on The Voice when season 25 began earlier this year. The “Speechless” singers replaced two-time champ Niall Horan, who stepped away to focus on touring. Clearly the pair had big shoes to fill, and not all fans embraced them at the beginning. However, as the show progresses, the tide of public opinion seems to be turning in Dan + Shay’s favor.

You would think the three-time GRAMMY Award winners would have their hands full with winning fans and influencing people. But Dan + Shay hinted to future plans in a Sunday (March 24) social media post.

Fans Having Anxiety Amid Upcoming Announcement
The pair posted a video clip of themselves performing their first-ever No. 1 Billboard Country Airplay hit, “Nothin’ Like You.” The song is from the band’s debut album Where It All Began, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary April 1.

“announcement tomorrow morning :)” the caption read cryptically.

You give me anxiety 🙂 announce it now 🙂 please 🙂

One user just hoped that the announcement wouldn’t bankrupt them. “If it something to buy my bank account is flushed,” they wrote. “Don’t do this to me. I love you guys.”

The “Tequila” singers have never been shy about celebrating anniversaries. In December 2022, they marked 10 years since their first meeting with a sweet Instagram post.

“The one thing that has been a constant throughout our decade long journey is our friendship,” the caption read. “More importantly than anything else, we’re genuinely just two best friends who get to do what we love together and we wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

Dan + Shay celebrated their 10th No. 1 hit earlier this year when “Save Me the Trouble” skyrocketed to the top of the charts.

The Voice Coach’s furry friends stayed super obedient.

It looks like John Legend has temporarily stepped away from his The Voice Coaching duties for a different job (well, sort of.)

On March 13, the ”All of Me” singer posted a snapshot of himself taking his dogs out for a leisurely stroll. In the photo, Legend wears a hoodie and sneakers while impressively handling the leashes of Penny the French Bulldog, Petey the Poodle, Pearl the Basset Hound, and another unknown pup with one hand.

Petey and Pearl look regal and poised while looking at something in the distance, while Penny sniffs the grass in front of her.

”POV: Your dog walker calls out sick,” Legend captioned the post. See the picture down later in this article!

Legend’s three dogs have been on many adventures lately, as his wife, Chrissy Teigen, posted fun snapshots of Petey rocking a blue sweater and beret. The outfit was put on the pooch in solidarity with 7-year-old Luna, Legend and Teigen’s oldest child, for a Girl Scout’s event.

Then, on February 18, Legend shared Penny’s heartwarming backstory by hilariously posting a picture of her wearing pink, heart-shaped sunglasses.

”Penny was born the week Chrissy and I got married and we got her from a shelter in South Carolina when I was on the All of Me Tour. She’s our oldest and most loving dog,” he wrote in the Instagram caption.

For Super Bowl Sunday, Petey got all dressed up again by wearing a jersey and fetching a toy football. Looks like he’s puppy bowl ready!

”Put Petey in, Coach 🏈,” Legend captioned the Instagram post.

As for Pearl the Basset Hound, she was introduced to the Legend-Teigen family in 2020. To show off the adorable puppy to fans, Teigen posted a picture of her with her massive floppy ears and big brown eyes.

“Pearl has touched down into the legend/teigen/stephens household!” Chrissy wrote on Instagram. “We love this little girl so much already but I will admit, she has definitely taken to John first!! Penny is obsessed with her so it’s been fun watching the adventures of penny and pearl unfold. I grew up with Basset Hounds so I can’t wait for John to see this bouncy, no-bones, jello mold of skin grow into the stubborn logs of love I love so much. Excited for this new little heart to add love to our home. Swipe for ear magic!”

The Voice star Reba McEntire’s massive salary revealed as execs plan to slash coaches’ paychecks during ‘budget cuts’

NBC higher-ups are reportedly freezing pay for all of its coaches on The Voice moving forward, The U.S. Sun can exclusively reveal.

Insiders have shared that Reba McEntire is getting a hefty salary, but talk of raises is cooling as the network faces mass budget reviews.

The Voice has made major changes to its coach roster for Season 25, which premiered last month.

The new panel sees country duo Dan + Shay join returning judges Chance the Rapper, Reba, and John Legend.

However, a source has shared exclusively with The U.S. Sun that network heads are “tightening spending” without affecting show quality.

The singing competition show is reportedly still one of the biggest revenue generators for NBC, but the “talent budget” is being carefully scrutinized.

The secret move was spilled by an NBC contractor, who revealed that across the program teams, “there is a substantial trimming of costs and ways of looking at not increasing spending.”

    ‘PAYING LESS FOR TALENT’

The source revealed to The U.S. Sun that the wages for judges are at the top of the spending sheets.

While Reba is getting a big payout, that figure won’t be increasing, and it’s also less than coaches have gotten in the past.

The source claimed, “You can trim the budgets here and there but the reality is that the biggest fees come from the judges’ pay.

“Losing a couple of staff members saves you hundreds of thousands of dollars, but bringing in a freeze on pay raises and lesser deals for talent is a way to trim millions.”

“Reba is getting around $13 million a season and that is the higher end of the fee range for talent – and a very substantial sum.

“It’s understood there is no room for that figure to rise, so very quietly behind the scenes private talks are taking place with agents and talent about those deals.

“There are a few household names that would happily take a $8 million payday, which is the lower end of the earnings for stars,” the source said.

One production member said that former judges Niall Horan and Camilla Cabello earned the lower amount of around $8 million, while Adam Levine got over $14.5 million, “so there is room for the network to negotiate these large sums.”

“It is a very quiet situation where the clamp is coming down on these high salaries,” they added.

All this comes as The Voice has seen two of its biggest stars abruptly exit.

Blake Shelton shocked audiences in 2023 when he announced he was leaving the show early in the year – followed by his wife Gwen Stefani announcing her departure in December.

    ‘EVERYONE’S REPLACEABLE’

In an exclusive on-camera interview with The U.S. Sun at the 11th Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild (MUAHS) Awards in Beverly Hills, California, The Voice staff hairstylists Jerilynn and Darbie addressed the recent show shake-ups.

“Now with Reba back… I wasn’t sure what was going to happen with Blake gone, but I really love her,” she explained, referring to the country star.

“And then having Dan and Shay for the double chair, that’s a really cool new experience.”

“The show is constantly evolving,” Jerilynn confessed.

Addressing Blake and Adam Levine leaving the show, the Hollywood stylist stated, “We kept going. Everyone’s always replaceable.

“I mean, truly, it brings a new fresh feel to the show.”

    ‘ON-CAMERA CHEMISTRY’

Jerilynn also talked about Blake and Gwen’s on-camera chemistry when they were both on the show.

“People love Blake and Gwen together – I mean, who doesn’t?” Jerilynn asked.

She continued to share that the couple is “super cute to watch and it was really great to see their relationship kind of blossom on the show too.”

Gwen shared that she was leaving the show this time to work on new music.

But although Gwen has left The Voice, there may be a chance she could return, as she has an on-and-off history with the show.

This also comes as The Voice is reportedly in a “bitter battle” with America’s Got Talent for ratings.

Show executives hope the new cast will give The Voice the boost it needs to remain on top in ratings.

The Voice’s Reba McEntire storms out of chair to ‘silence’ Niall Horan and hastily blocks him during explosive premiere

THE VOICE has premiered with Reba McEntire as a judge, and she’s already making waves.

The 68-year-old country singer got into it with One Direction star Niall Horan, 30.

The two judges turned around to duke it out for the same talented contestant.

Jordan Rainer, 33, from Oklahoma, was the first contestant of the night, and she sang Reba’s song, Fancy.

She came out on the stage in an all-black outfit including a trenchcoat, wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses.

Every single judge turned around in hopes of being Jordan’s coach.

Although Gwen Stefani, 53, begged to be her coach, the real fight came when Reba gave her pitch to The Voice contestant.

Reba was getting to know Jordan and asked how long she’s lived in Nashville – the answer is eight years.

The legendary singer then said: “Well, if you do choose me as your coach, you know we’d have a blast.”

    BATTLE OF THE JUDGES

While she was talking, Niall slammed on his red button which prompted Blake Shelton’s voice to echo through the auditorium.

Niall had preprogrammed his button to play recordings spoken by the 47-year-old country singer.

All of the phrases praised Niall and gave him compliments.

The first one said: “Niall is like a son to me,” and another said: “Niall is a global superstar.”

As Reba continued to speak to the contestant, Niall hit the button relentlessly until she got out of her chair and stormed over to her fellow judge.

She got into Niall’s chair and stood in front of him to prevent him from hitting the button.

Reba continued to speak to Jordan while trying to silence her boy band competition.

In the end, Jordan ended up choosing Reba to be her coach proving that Niall’s shenanigans didn’t work.

    EARLY FAN FAVORITE

Fans of The Voice on X, formerly known as Twitter, are already falling in love with Jordan and some think she could win the competition.

One said: “I thought that was Reba and then I thought is this a joke? Omg, that woman sounds exactly like Reba! She is amazing! She’s the winner, I’m calling it now.”

Another said: “Super talented! From Atoka, OK no less! This was a @reba win all the way… I’m so stoked she’s on the show!”

A third said: “She absolutely nailed it and the correct choice is actually joining the original singer Reba McEntire. I do see her going further and winning the show for her coach.”

Someone said: “What a great opening act for #TheVoice Jordan knocked it out of the park!”

A fifth said: “Jordan was fantastic! And she took that one chance! Excited to see what she’ll do on.”

Reba McEntire thought she was going to win the Hillbilly Chili Cookoff. After all, her boyfriend Rex Linn was one of the judges. However, she ended up placing last instead.

    Videos by American Songwriter
Speaking with CBS (via Taste of Country), the fan-favorite judge on The Voice revealed that her chili wasn’t spicy enough for the judges. It was disappointing for McEntire who believed she was going to light up the judges with her chili recipe.

VIDEO: Reba McEntire places last in chili cookoff judged by boyfriend Rex Linn – K92.3

“Well, for some reason, I guess I left out all the spices,” McEntire said. “But man, I was dumping chili powder and hatch green chilis in there. And I thought, ‘Man, this is gonna do it.’ It was from a Texas recipe. I was so excited.”

Not even being Linn’s girlfriend saved McEntire from being last place. However, Linn did choose a hilarious way to let her know that she didn’t win. Linn ended up whispering the news into McEntire’s ear that she lost.

“Well, Rex was one of the judges, and he came and whispered it in my ear. He said, ‘I’m so sorry.’ [I said], ‘Are you gonna tell me who won?’ [He said,] ‘Well, it’s not you.’ So he handed me the trophy, and it was a chili pepper in the toilet. And so mine took a dump,” McEntire continued.

    Reba McEntire and Rex Linn
McEntire and Linn first met in 1991. Both were filming the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns. However, it would be nearly 20 years before the two finally got together. Both McEntire and Linn started dating in 2020 after reconnecting.

“I asked Rex one time, I said, ‘I wonder why we didn’t get together earlier.’ He said, ‘Well, one thing, you were married before,’” McEntire explained. “He’s a lot of fun, lot of energy. I’ve kinda mellowed. He’s kinda calmed down. So I think we’ve met at the right time.”

Reba McEntire's Boyfriend Rex Linn Made Her Take the Super Bowl Gig

McEntire said that Linn is one of her biggest supporters, always encouraging her to follow through on her dreams.

“He’s my biggest cheerleader,” she said to Good House Keeping. “He’s encouraged me the whole time and he even gives me ideas to make things better. His enthusiasm really does pep all of us up, and I appreciate him very much.”

However, when it comes to chili, Linn’s hands are tied. Maybe, he and McEntire can hit the kitchen and improve on her recipe.

‘The Voice’ Coach Reba McEntire Shuts Down Rumors She “Scolded” Taylor Swift After the Super Bowl

Reba McEntire is setting the record straight after a news story and Twitter post claimed she confronted Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl. The rumors alleged by the post have no factual basis, but the misinformation has been gaining traction online. Reba took to Instagram to clear her name and warn fans not to fall for the lies spread by the outlet.

“Please don’t believe everything you see on the Internet. I did not say this. Taylor is a wonderful artist, strong role model and has done so much good for so many people and the music industry,” the “I’m a Survivor” singer wrote on Instagram.

The post by America Loves Liberty claimed that Reba scolded Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl after seeing her “making a mockery” of her National Anthem performance on February 11. Reba kicked off the Super Bowl Sunday broadcast with her outstanding performance, and the night ended with Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, winning the Super Bowl.

The Voice' Judges Want To Beat Reba McEntire Despite Welcoming Her

“Reba McIntire [sic] talks about how disappointed she was to look up at the big screen while performing The National Anthem, only to see Taylor Swift laughing and drinking and making a mockery of the event. ‘I let her have it afterward. She’s an entitled little brat,’” the false post reads.

Of course, loyal Reba fans know this isn’t something she would do, the damage was done nonetheless. Country music fans ran to the comments of Reba’s post to defend her and offer sympathy. “Anybody who has actually been a Reba fan for a minute now would KNOW Reba would never act like that. With gentle hands and the heart of a fighter….. She’s a survivor,”
“As soon as I saw this stupid story, I knew it was lies. @reba leads the industry with class, she would never do anything like this. People need to get a life” and “SET EM STRAIGHT, RED👏👏👏,” fans wrote. “They spelled your name McIntire. So made up story AND a lazy proofreader! 😂,” Reba’s Young Sheldon co-star, Melissa Peterman, chimed in.

Reba McEntire Shuts Down Rumors of a Feud With Taylor Swift

The America Loves Liberty account responded to Reba’s post beneath their initial Twitter post. “Oh my. Reba McEntire herself responded to our nonsense. Thank you, Ma’am. We love your work. The article is as silly as the headline for a reason. It’s not supposed to be believable. Your fans were staunchly on your side long before this post,” the account owner posted. Whether or not they intended their post to be believable or not, Reba and her fans are clearly not pleased.

Take it from Reba: not everything on the internet is true, so watch out!

Jake Paul shares candid video of the moment he told his Mike Tyson-obsessed father that he’ll be boxing the heavyweight legend in July: ‘Are you f***ing kidding me?’

Jake Paul‘s decision to step in the ring with 57-year-old Mike Tyson not only surprised fans, but the fledgling cruiserweight’s father too.

Paul, 30 years Tyson’s junior, shared a candid video of himself revealing his planned fight to his father – a lifelong fan of Iron Mike.

‘Growing up, who was your favorite boxer?’ the YouTuber-turned-boxer is seen asking his father, Greg.

    ‘Mike Tyson,’ the 60-year-old answered.

    ‘Mike right?’ Jake asked again.

The elder Paul was more forceful the second time around: ‘F*** yeah. Why’d you ask?’

It was then that Jake revealed to his father the news that has since rocked the boxing world.

‘Cuz um.. I’m going to be fighting him,’ Jake said nervously.

‘No way,’ Greg reacted, adding a ‘dude’ for good measure.

Jake went on to include the platform (‘Netflix’) and month (‘July’), thus making the video clip an effective promo for the July 20th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

‘Are you f**king kidding me?’ Jake’s incredulous father continued. ‘He’s gonna be the hardest-hitting motherf***er you ever fought.’

Jake couldn’t help but acknowledge his father was right: ‘I know. Dude, holy f***. I’m gonna be freaking out.’

Jake Paul shared footage of Mike Tyson sparring ahead of their July bout

Paul had claimed the footage was taken 'two weeks ago'

Jake Paul shared a video of Mike Tyson training ahead of their stunning boxing fight in July

Paul is 9-1 as a boxer, primarily fight at cruiserweight against a series of novices, including former NBA star Nate Robinson and converted MMA fighters like Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz.

Against natural boxers, Paul is just 2-1, including his 2023 loss to Tommy Fury.

Paul was hoping to legitimize himself by fighting Tyson, but that’s going to be a tough sell for boxing audiences.

Not only did Tyson retire in 2005, but he was just 1-3 in his last four fights, including ugly losses to middling heavyweights like Kevin McBride and Danny Williams.

As part of the build-up to the bout, Paul posted footage of Tyson training and claimed that it was taken just ‘two weeks ago’.

‘The Problem Child’ wrote: ”He’s the greatest heavyweight of all time…the most vicious KO artist ever. But I’m younger, I’m faster and I’m going to be working my ass off to get stronger.”

‘A member of my team sent me this video that Mike’s coach put up two weeks ago and asked me if I’m sure that I want to do this…yes, yes I do. Heavyweight.’

However, his post on X was immediately hit by a community note which informed users that the footage was from four years ago.

Then, shortly afterwards, another account took to the online platform to confirm that the footage was incredibly dated and even shared an old clip of Tyson talking about the training.

Fans found old footage of Tyson reacting to the clip

Tyson said he was left 'in bed for a week' after filming the sparring footage

Fans found an old interview clip where Tyson discussed the sparring footage and admitted he was left ‘in bed for a week’ after filming the workout

During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Podcast, Tyson said: ‘You want me to tell you something about that video? I did that video and I was in bed for a week.

‘That was 30 seconds and I was in bed for a week. And it’s not funny because it made me realize that this is big boy s***, okay?’.

Fellow boxers, as well as a number of promoters, were left stunned by the announcement of the fight – including Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn.

‘For me it’s really sad because Mike Tyson was one of my idols growing up, and to see him fighting at 57, 58… but I also understand that a lot of people are going to tune in and watch,’ Hearn told Mail Sport.

‘It’s an entertainment event, Netflix, great to see them involved in boxing. I think it will do really well. But it’s just not really one for me.’
