When Princess Diana said she’d never become the queen

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, Charles III became King of the United Kingdom. As the world gears up to accept Charles in his new role with his now wife, Camilla as Queen Consort, it’s befitting to look back at what the king’s first wife, Diana, the Princess of Wales, thought of him being crowned with the same title.

In an infamous BBC Panorama interview in 1995, the late Diana claimed she could not see herself becoming queen of the United Kingdom because the “establishment” she married into didn’t desire that. She further commented that her then-husband Charles would also find the title of the king “suffocating” and “bring enormous limitations to him.”

“Do you think you will ever be queen?” asked the host, Martin Bashir, to which Diana let out a nervous chuckle. “No, I don’t,” she replied. “Why do you think that?” he cross-questioned the princess. “I’d like to be the queen of people’s hearts, but I don’t see myself being the queen of this country,” she explained. “I don’t think many people will want me to be queen, and when I say ‘people,’ I mean the establishment I married into because they have decided I’m a non-starter.”

She further added, “I do things differently because I don’t go by a rule book because I lead from the heart, not the head, and albeit that’s got me into trouble in my work, I understand that. But someone’s got to go out there and love people and show it.”

Upon being asked if she believes that her behaviour prevents her from becoming queen, she said, “Yes, well not precluded me. I wouldn’t say that. I just don’t think I have as many supporters in that environment as I did. They see me as a threat of some kind, and I’m here to do good: I’m not a destructive person.”

Diana then elaborated on how many “strong women,” in history received the same treatment as her. “I think every strong woman in history has had to walk down a similar path, and I think it’s the strength that causes the confusion and the fear. Why is she strong? Where does she get it from? Where is she taking it? Where is she going to use it? Why does the public still support her? When I say public, you go and do an engagement and there are many people there.”

Interestingly, Diana also shared her view on Charles becoming king, claiming that she doesn’t know if he “could adapt” to the title. “There was always conflict on that subject with him when we discussed it, and I understood that conflict, because it’s a very demanding role to be Prince of Wales, but it’s an equally demanding role to be King. And being Prince of Wales produces more freedom now, and being King would be a little more suffocating. And because I know the character, I would think that the top job, as I call it, would bring enormous limitations to him, and I don’t know whether he could adapt to that.”

As per Variety, Buckingham Palace announced on October 11, 2022, that the much-awaited coronation will take place on May 6, 2023. And as the date inches closer, many sources confirm that Queen Consort Camila will also be crowned alongside the monarch, as it was Queen Elizabeth II’s declaration in 2022 that it was her “sincere wish” that the former Duchess of Cornwall take the title of Queen Consort when Charles accedes to the throne.

Although it has been 25 years since Lady Diana’s untimely death in a car crash in 1997, many adoring fans to date remember her charismatic personality. Given the recent controversy regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Diana’s criticism of the media outlets and “treatment” by the British royal family remains as relevant as ever.

One royal expert has suggested that King Charles should be the “bigger person” when it comes to reconnecting with Prince Harry.

King Charles has been urged to be the “bigger person” when it comes to fixing the ongoing feud with Prince Harry, but former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has explained why she doesn’t think this will happen.

Prince Harry has been at loggerheads with the Royal Family for some time, with strained relations looking unlikely to come to an end soon.

Harry now resides in the US with Meghan Markle and their two children, with California recently becoming his primary place of residence.

Ms Bond has explained two main reasons why the King won’t be the “bigger person” – Harry’s criticism of Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales.

Speaking to Radio Times, the expert said: “The particular hurt over how Harry criticised, viciously really, [Queen] Camilla and [Princess] Catherine.”

Discussing the fact the King didn’t meet with Harry last week, she added: “I just think as Charles is recovering from cancer, once again, it’s almost like the emotional strength to deal with ‘The Harry Problem’ just isn’t there.

“So, they didn’t meet. I just think it’s incredibly sad.”

Also speaking on her view that the King should be the “bigger person”, she added: “Personally as a parent, I think there are times when you’ve got to be the bigger person [and] you’ve got to open your arms and say ‘you’ve been a silly sod, you really have and we’ve got quite a lot to work out. But for now, lets have a hug’.”

Speaking of Harry’s criticism of his stepmother and sister-in-law, this came in the form of his tell-all memoir, which was released last year.

Harry released Spare worldwide on January 10, 2023 – just one day after Princess Kate’s 41st birthday.

Harry wrote that he and Prince William asked their father to not marry the now-Queen Camilla, whom he tied the knot with in 2005.

The 39-year-old also detailed how he initially feared Camilla would be like “all the evil stepmothers in the stories”.

He wrote: “I remember wondering…if she would be cruel to me; if she would be like all the wicked stepmothers in the stories.”

Harry wrote about the Princess of Wales in his memoir Spare, including details about her rifts with Meghan.

According to Harry, Kate messaged Meghan to complain that Princess Charlotte’s dress for her 2018 wedding did not fit correctly.

Writing in Spare, Kate reportedly wrote: “Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on at home.”

Prince William will be an usher at a close friend’s wedding but to avoid tensions Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be attending. Hugh Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster, will marry Olivia Henson, 31, at Chester Cathedral on June 7 it what has been billed as the society wedding of the year.

The Times reported on Saturday (May 18) that the Sussexes would not be at the billionaire businessman’s nuptials to avoid tensions “overshadowing” the day.

Grosvenor is said to be a close friend to Prince William and Prince Harry, acting as godfather to Prince George and Prince Archie.

Neither Princess Kate nor King Charles, who are both being treated for cancer, are expected to attend, according to the same publication.

The Duke of Westminster, whose godfather is King Charles, recently topped The Sunday Times Rich List 40 under 40, with estimates he has inherited wealth totalling £10billion.

Four hundred guests are reportedly set to attend the wedding between Grosvenor and Miss Henson, who met in 2021.

A lavish reception at Eaton Hall will follow the wedding ceremony. The next day the newlyweds will host a second, smaller reception at Eaton Hall, the Grosvenors’ estate in Cheshire.

The Sunday Times revealed in 2023 that the Sussexes would not be on the couple’s guest list.

A friend of the princes told the publication: “It’s incredibly sad it has come to this. Hugh is one of the very few close friends of William and Harry’s who has maintained strong bonds and a line of communication with both.”

The pal said Grosvenor, 33, wishes the royal siblings could “put their heads together and patch things up”, but realises it’s unlikely to happen before his wedding.

They added: “He wanted to avoid anything overshadowing the day, especially for Olivia, and doesn’t want any awkwardness.”

Sources close to Harry and Meghan suggested they received notice of the wedding, but opted not to attend, believing it would be “too awkward”.

On the day before the wedding, King Charles is due to travel to France with Queen Camilla and Prince William for a series of events to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

William and Harry’s relationship has deteriorated in recent years, with tensions reportedly having arisen over the Duke of Sussex’s stepping down as a senior royal and claims levelled against the Prince of Wales and other senior members of the Royal Family in the Duke’s memoir, Spare, and Sussexes’ Netflix docu-series.

EXCLUSIVE: Prince Harry sends signal to King Charles and William that ‘he’s not the bad boy they paint him to be’

Prince Harry made an appearance at St Paul’s Cathedral last night for a celebration of the Invictus Games, but the special service was snubbed by the Royal Family

Prince Harry wore his KCVO Neck Order and Star at St Paul’s Cathedral last night, with one royal expert suggesting it was used to send a message to King Charles and Prince William.

The Duke of Sussex was at the cathedral to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. The Royal Family decided not to attend the event, but that didn’t stop Harry from paying tribute to his time as a senior working royal.

The KCVO Neck Order and Star Harry wore is given for service to the monarchy. The medal is awarded as part of the Royal Victorian Order – a monarchical order of knighthood. Royal author Tom Quinn believes the move is a message to Charles and William that Harry offered a “valued contribution” to the monarchy.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Tom said: “Harry was seen wearing his Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order medal at St Paul’s Cathedral for the Invictus service. The medal was given to Harry in 2015 by his late grandmother Elizabeth II for ‘services to the monarchy’.

“Wearing this was Harry’s way of reminding his family that his grandmother valued his contribution, even if his father and brother do not. Wearing the KCVO neck and star was also Harry’s way of pointing out that he’s not the bad boy he’s portrayed as being by his father and brother.

“It’s Harry’s way of saying he still supports the monarchy despite the way he feels he has been treated. Perhaps more importantly, wearing the medal is Harry’s way of saying ‘You’ve taken everything else from me, but you can’t take this!’”

Harry was knighted by his grandmother the Queen in 2015 for his service to the monarchy. He was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) privately at Buckingham Palace.

As well as the KCVO Neck Order and Star, Harry has an Afghanistan Service Medal and a Golden, Diamond and Platinum Jubilee medal, which he wore to the service. Harry’s decision to wear the KCVO Neck Order and Star comes after it was announced King Charles was too busy to meet his son.

In a statement, Harry’s spokesperson said: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme. The duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

Prince Harry will have found it “painful” to see King Charles and Prince William share a touching moment as the future monarch was handed

Earlier this week, the King made William colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corps, a military unit previously headed by Harry.

The ceremony took place as Harry was preparing to head for Nigeria for his tour of the country alongside Meghan Markle.

The Times’ Royal Correspondent, Roya Nikkah, says that, while Harry and Meghan’s Nigeria tour will be raising eyebrows, Harry will also be pained by the sight of William bolstering his affinity with the military.

Speaking on The Royals podcast, she said: “I suspect when the Palace and the King look at those images of Prince Harry and Meghan (in Nigeria), they think ‘ooo…they are going down quite well. How does that make us feel?’

“But I also think Harry looks at William in combats, being handed the colonelcy by his father, and I suspect that is painful for Harry, even though he might say it is not. I suspect it hurts him a little bit.”

A royal author has claimed this week that William was “furious” with Harry and Meghan’s tour of Nigeria

Tom Quinn told the Mirror that the couple’s trip “confirmed the worst fears” of Harry’s family.

He said: “Everything you might expect from an official royal visit was there — the receptions, the visits to schools and charities, to wounded soldiers and the disabled.

“Charles is said to be angrier than anyone has ever seen him.

“For Charles and William, it’s as if Meghan and Harry are saying, ‘We don’t need your permission to be working royals — we will do it on our own terms whenever and wherever we like.

“William and Charles are scratching their heads and thinking, ‘How are we going to control this nightmare situation?’”

Prince William’s new role ‘is a slap in the face’ for Prince Harry

Royal expert Katie Nicholl says Prince William’s new military title will have been a ‘slap in the face’ for Prince Harry, but the timing was purely a coincidence.

King Charles’s passing on a key military role to Prince William will have come as a “slap in the face” to Prince Harry, a royal expert has claimed. The King officially handed over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to the Prince of Wales during a visit to its Hampshire airfield earlier this week.

The Army Air Corps is the Duke of Sussex’s former unit, in which he served as an Apache helicopter commander and co-pilot gunner during his second tour of Afghanistan in 2012.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl told the podcast Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered suggested the timing of the announcement was unfortunate for Harry. She said: “Again, when you talk about timing and the blow of that announcement about Archewell, when Harry got all this sunshine and happy and positive coverage in Nigeria, the images coming out of the UK are of Charles and William looking closer than ever, with William being honoured with the title that really should have gone to Harry.”

Ms Nicholl continued: “I think that’s going to feel a bit like a slap in the face for Prince Harry just as he’s riding high because of Nigeria. There’s just something else to keep him anchored… So, interesting timing and an accolade for Prince William. I think he’ll have been very proud of that.”

Vanity Fair’s royal editor suggested the Prince of Wales would have loved every minute of his “Top Gun moment” after William left the Hampshire base in an Apache.

She shared her view after Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the US following a three day trip to Nigeria where the couple promoted mental health for soldiers, visited local charity Giants of Africa and were hosted at Lagos State Government House.

The trip coincided with the Sussexes’ Archwell charity incorrectly being listed as “delinquent” and a delinquency notice letter being sent to the foundation for “failing to submit required annual report(s) and/or renewal fees”. By Tuesday (May 14) the status of Archewell Foundation had, however, been changed to “current”.

A spokesperson for Archewell said it had diligently investigated the situation and could confirm the foundation remained fully compliant and in good standing, with due payments made promptly and in accordance with procedures.

Asked if William being officially handed his new role was just a coincidence, as opposed to a bid to distract from the Sussexes’ trip to Nigeria, Ms Nicholl said she felt sure it was the former.

She said: “We know how far in advance royal diaries are planned so I think there’s every chance this is just coincidental timing. I don’t think there’s deliberate scheming going on here. It just seems to be quite unfortunate timing for [the Sussexes].”

The King’s decision to hand the role to William was seen as a blow to Harry when it was first announced last year.

Charles said it was a “great joy” to meet servicemen, their families and veterans at an earlier visit to the Army Flying Museum, but added the handover was “tinged with great sadness”.

He said: “I do hope you’ll go from strength to strength in the future with the Prince of Wales as your new Colonel-in-Chief.

“The great thing is he’s a very good pilot indeed – so that’s encouraging.”

William embarked on his first engagement with the Army Air Corps after the King left, receiving a briefing on its work and inspecting training and operational aircraft as well as talking to soldiers.

He was presented with gifts on behalf of the corps – a tartan scarf for the prince, a wrap for his wife Kate and three wooden helicopter models for each of the couple’s children.

Kensington Palace posted two images of the Prince of Wales during his military service on X, showing a younger William in 1998 and 2009 – standing next to a helicopter in one picture and smiling at the controls in another. The caption read: “Time flies!”

Monday’s visit came just days after Harry travelled to London to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, without meeting up with either his father or his brother.

Victoria sent private messages to Mrunal Thakur and Mouni Roy after discovering a photo of them with Beckham, really?

Mrunal Thakur and Mouni Roy flew to Doha to attend the 2021 Qatar Grand Prix, a Formula One motor race, held on 21 November 2021 at the Losail International Circuit.

The Bollywood divas had no idea that they would meet English football player David Beckham.

Needless to say, Mrunal and Mouni had their fangirl moment. They captured the moment from the ‘best night ever’ in their phones and shared pictures with David on Instagram.

For the 2021 Qatar Grand Prix, Mouni wore a black asymmetrical dress. She rounded off her look with smokey eyes and straight hair.

Sharing a picture with the dapper David, Mouni wrote, “What just happened !?!?” The footballer was dressed in a formal suit.

Mrunal’s caption read, “AND THIS HAPPENED! BEST NIGHT EVER @davidbeckham @f1 @fabdoha Are you jealous?”

The actress opted for a casual look and was seen in a floral shirt and jeans.

Beckham was sc0lded by royal assistants for a hum!liating mistake at Kate and Prince William’s wedding, really?

The former England midfielder is considered a national treasure for his impressive 26 years as a footballer.

David, who now lives in the US, scored 17 goals and earned 115 caps during his international career.

The 45-year-old and his wife Victoria Beckham’s closeness to the Royal Family has been noted on many occasions.

After Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their decision to leave the Firm last year, David came out in support of the couple.

He said he was “proud” of the Duke after he stepped down and described him as an “amazing” person.

David, who refused to comment on the royal drama following their departure, maintained he and Harry only spoke “as friends”.

The football ace told Entertainment Tonight that the Queen’s grandson was the “person that every father wants to be”.

He noted the royal’s “loving” nature towards son Archie before Meghan announced she was expecting a daughter during their tell-all with Oprah Winfrey last month.

Despite the alleged feud between Harry, 36, and his brother Prince William, 38, David has maintained a close relationship with both.

Last year, he appeared alongside William for a campaign to promote talking about mental health in sport.

Their Zoom chat featured others including Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings, Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti and England Women’s captain Steph Houghton.

During their candid discussion, David admitted he struggled to deal with the backlash after getting sent off against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup.

The star claimed the public reaction was “pretty brutal” and believed it would have been harder if “social media was around”.

He said: “It would have been a whole different story, but I was lucky – I had a support system within Manchester United, the manager and obviously family.”

David told William that he didn’t feel comfortable asking for help “because it was a different era”, which inspired his push to help young players to speak out.

He added: “I just felt that I had to keep it all in and deal with it myself.”

David’s closeness with William led him and Victoria to be invited to the royal wedding on April 29, 2011.

The nuptials were watched live by 17.6 million people in the UK and more than two billion viewers worldwide.

But during the royal’s big day, David suffered an unfortunate gaffe.

The blunder was reported in OK! Magazine’s Royal Anniversary Special, which celebrates 10 years of marriage between Kate and William.

Among the 1,900 guests were Sir Elton John, the Beckhams, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, Rowan Atkinson and Guy Ritchie.

Victoria, who was pregnant with Harper, now nine, was described as having looked “stunning” in her midnight blue dress.

David was equally dressed to the nines, in a dark morning suit with a grey tie.

However, in front of the billions of people watching the ceremony, the footballer made an unfortunate error.

The star proudly showed off his OBE, which he was awarded as part of the Queen’s 2003 Birthday Honours List.

But the medal was “on the wrong side of his chest” according to OK! and went unnoticed for some time.

Eventually, courtiers approached David and “put him right”.

On the day, Her Majesty wore a primrose yellow wool crepe  outfit with a hat that featured trimmed silk leaves.

OK! described the Queen bearing “a smile” that was “almost as sunny” as her dress.

On the big day, Kate wore a tightly fitted dress that “took its place in the history books and fashion archives”.

The ivory satin and lace grown, created by  Alexander McQueen’s company, was described as “the very best of British craftsmanship”.

What is so special about the family background of Romeo’s son’s beautiful girlfriend that David Beckham hastily asked for a wedding?

A few days ago, Becks’ second son Romeo had a debut that was considered quite successful for the Brenford reserve team.

Former midfielder David Beckham also came to the field to cheer for his only son to continue his football career.

In addition to his famous father, the young man’s supporter in pursuing his passion is his girlfriend Mia Regan.

Mia is the same age as Romeo, born in 2002. The beauty’s father is the supervisor of the Wiltshire air ambulance charity fund.

Thanks to her impressive figure and height of up to 1.78 m, she soon became a photo model.

Mia was discovered and signed by modeling agency Storm Management at the age of 12.

Gradually, the 20-year-old beauty had opportunities to cooperate with many big brands such as The Perfume Shop, Gucci Beauty, Baum Und Pferdgarten, British Vogue, Balmain…

In October 2019, the British pink figure appeared on the fashion catwalk of the PrettyLittleThing brand, highly appreciated by experts for her appearance and charisma. In August 2020, Mia Regan became the new representative model for Victoria Beckham.

Mia’s personal page currently has more than 600,000 followers. She often shares pictures of herself and shows off her unique fashion sense on social networks. She and her boyfriend Romeo also often interact and express their affection online.

Romeo and Mia started dating in May 2019, but four months later they announced their relationship, making fans very surprised. During their relationship, the young couple were considered talented and beautiful and were not afraid to show their affection for each other. Mia is also popular with the Becks family as she often travels together and appears at her boyfriend’s family events.

After more than 3 years of passion, in July 2022, the couple broke up due to geographical distance. Romeo was then playing for Inter Miami in the US while Mia still lived in London to work as an artist. Long distance love and not being able to arrange time made the two go their separate ways in regret.

By November 2022, the British couple officially returned and continued to travel together. When they reunited, Romeo shared a photo of his girlfriend but hid her face. However, many viewers still noticed that it was Mia. Up to now, the couple does not hesitate to share their happy moments together on social networks.

Tom Cruise and David Beckham: what happened to their bezzie friendship?

When the Beckhams moved to LA, David and Tom were inseparable. Now they are occasionally seen shaking hands politely. Curious

And so to a new occasional series, Dispatches From the Showbiz Bermuda Triangle, wherein we contemplate the mysterious disappearance of various showbiz entities. This week, our subject is the Beckhams’ close friendship with Mr Tom Cruise, which has not been heard of since 2011.

Tom Cruise and David Beckham's friendship explained

Whatever happened there, pop pickers? Time was they were all inseparable. The Beckhams were among the select guests at Tom’s wedding to Katie Holmes at an Italian castle. Then, of course, there was easily the most disturbing thing Lost in Showbiz has ever seen in a football stadium – the sight of a heavily sunglassed Cruise in the stands at the Bernabéu, applauding and guffawing wildly as Real Madrid beat Mallorca to win La Liga in 2007. When the Beckhams moved to LA, Tom was forever to be found in the player’s box watching LA Galaxy and enjoying it just as much – as well someone might, if they hadn’t come for the football. As for Beckham, he later confessed to having spent “hours” on the phone to Tom trying to make up his mind over whether to join the Galaxy. He spoke to him several times a week, he added, and took his advice on pretty much anything.

Tom Cruise-David Beckham friendship explored in book about soccer star – New York Daily News

Meanwhile, Cruise’s generosity toward his new best friends was as fanatical as pretty much everything else he did: he hosted them a Welcome To LA party, while on the day Beckhams moved into their new Beverly Hills home, they found a few little presents from Tom parked in the driveway – a Cadillac Escalade, a Lincoln Navigator and a Bentley Continental.

But over the past couple of years … well, the coastguard seems to have lost contact. Cruise and the Beckhams have occasionally been seen shaking hands politely and exchanging what appear to be pleasantries if they find themselves near each other in courtside seats at the Lakers, or in the VIP section at the ice hockey. But of that much-flaunted bezziedom, almost teenage in its intensity, there is no longer the slightest sign.

It is not for us to speculate on what exactly caused the cooling – perhaps it was the showbiz version of getting on famously with a couple you met on holiday only to realise they’re horrors in real life.
