Golfer Rory McIlroy has claimed the top prize at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards. The 36-year-old won the Masters in April, beating Englishman Justin Rose in a play-off to complete the career grand slam of golf’s four major titles.

He then contributed three-and-a-half points to Europe’s tally as they beat the United States to win the Ryder Cup in New York, their first away victory over the US in 13 years. McIlroy won the public vote for the BBC prize ahead of England’s Rugby World Cup-winning star Ellie Kildunne and Formula One world champion Lando Norris.

England footballers Chloe Kelly and Hannah Hampton, and darts world champion Luke Littler were the other three shortlisted stars.

McIlroy’s success makes him the first golfer to win the award since Sir Nick Faldo in 1989 – the year he was born. He also becomes the first male winner since Sir Lewis Hamilton in 2020, and the first Northern Irishman to win it since AP McCoy in 2010.

He came close to winning it in 2014, losing out to Hamilton despite winning the Open and the US PGA Championship that year.

McIlroy, who flew in from the Golf Channel Games event in Florida to attend the ceremony in Salford, also won a seventh Race to Dubai title this year, leaving him one behind Colin Montgomerie’s record.

Accepting the award on stage, he said: “2025 has been the year that I made my dreams come true. From Augusta to the Ryder Cup and everything else in between, it really has been the year that dreams are made of.

“I’ve a lot of people to thank. Firstly, the public, thank you for voting me as your Sports Personality of the Year, but my family, my mum and dad, they sacrificed so much for me and I obviously wouldn’t be here without them.

“My wife, Erica, my daughter, Poppy, they’re what holds me together, my rock. They couldn’t be here tonight, they’re back in America, but I can’t wait to get back to see them tomorrow and celebrate this with them as well. So thank you for all your support, everything that you’ve done for me over the years.”

McIlroy had been marked for stardom from an early age. Home videos of a three-year-old McIlroy practicing in his living room captured a precocious talent, as well as a television appearance aged nine when he chipped balls into a washing machine.

He shot a course record 61 at Royal Portrush aged 16 and came to wider prominence with the only bogey-free round in an opening 68 at the 2007 Open at Carnoustie, before winning his first major at the 2011 US Open.

McIlroy and his Ryder Cup colleagues also secured the Team of the Year prize.

David Stancombe and Sergio Aguiar, the dads of Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Aguiar who were murdered at the Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport in July 2024, were recognised with the Helen Rollason Award for their fundraising efforts at the London Marathon in April.

An emotional moment saw the two dads accept the prestigious award. Clare Balding said: “The memory of those wonderful girls is very much here with us tonight.”

The money raised contributed to projects set up in the memory of their daughters and Bebe King, who was also killed in the attack.

David Stancombe said as he accepted the award: “I’m just a dad keeping a promise to his little girl.”

Former Arsenal and France forward Thierry Henry was presented with the Lifetime Achievement award by his four children, while pole-vaulter Armand Duplantis won the World Sports Star of the Year for the second successive year.

Sarina Wiegman, who steered England in their successful defence of their Women’s Euro title, won coach of the year, having also done so when the Lionesses won the tournament on home soil in 2022. Michelle Agyemang, one of the stars of Wiegman’s team, won the Young Sports Personality of the Year prize

“I LOST PEGGY…”  Pete Wicks Shares Heartbreaking Loss as Beloved French Bulldog Dies Just Weeks After Health Battle Update

Pete Wicks has opened up about a deeply personal loss, revealing that his much-loved French bulldog Peggy has died, just weeks after he told fans she was facing months of treatment.

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 37, shared the heartbreaking news during a recent episode of his podcast Staying Relevant, explaining that Peggy actually passed away around a month ago. Pete said he hadn’t spoken publicly about it before, but decided to address it after listeners began wondering why only his other dog, Eric, was with him in the studio.

On the podcast, Pete told listeners that on a sad note, and knowing people would ask, the reason Peggy wasn’t there was because he had lost her recently. He explained that Eric had come into the office because he’d been lonely, adding quietly that Peggy died about a month ago.

Pete had first alarmed fans back in July when he revealed he had “nearly lost” Peggy, sharing that she was about to begin months of treatment. At the time, he posted a photo of the pair cuddling and admitted it had been a tough week, saying Peggy had been through the wars but never gave up. He told followers he was simply happy to have her back home and remained hopeful despite the long road ahead.

Earlier this month, while promoting his U series For Dogs’ Sake, Pete admitted 2025 had been a heavy year emotionally. He revealed he was planning to spend Christmas Day alone with Eric, joking that he’d likely sit at home with a Pot Noodle. Pete said he usually spends Christmas on his own with his dogs, and this year felt no different.

After spending weeks filming at Dogs Trust’s rehoming centre in Basildon, Pete also spoke about the possibility of adopting another dog one day, but stressed he wouldn’t rush the decision. He explained that while he wants every dog, he has to practise what he preaches, given his unusual lifestyle. He added that Eric, now 12, also gets a say, saying it’s important to find the right companion for him and to get it right, as he always has.

Peggy had been part of Pete’s life since 2018, when he rescued her through French Bulldog Saviours. He has often spoken about his bond with dogs, previously admitting he prefers them to people and that he couldn’t stop crying while filming his emotional animal-focused series.

Pete’s love for dogs began in childhood, when he and his mum adopted their first pet, Arnie, when he was just 10 years old. In 2016, he went on to rescue Eric from Dogs Trust Basildon — the loyal companion who is now helping him through the loss of Peggy.

F1 2026 Bombshells: Verstappen Confirms Shock Number Change as Rumors of Newey’s “Genius” Loophole Explode

The Formula 1 paddock is never truly quiet, even in the depths of the off-season. While the engines are cold, the rumor mill is spinning at maximum RPM, and the latest developments for the 2026 season are nothing short of seismic. We are standing on the precipice of a new era in the sport, and two massive stories have collided to send shockwaves through the fanbase: a complete rebranding for the grid’s biggest star and a terrifying technical rumor that suggests one team may have already won the 2026 championship before a wheel has even turned.

The Death of #33: Enter MV3

For years, the number 33 was synonymous with Max Verstappen. It was the brand he built his empire on, the number that adorned the cars that challenged the Mercedes dominance, and the symbol of the “Orange Army.” When he ascended to the throne as World Champion, he rightfully adopted the number 1—a privilege reserved only for the king of the grid. But with the 2024 championship slipping from his grasp and Lando Norris claiming the crown (and the #1 plate), fans widely expected Max to return to his roots. The merchandise was ready; the nostalgia was palpable. We were all ready for the return of MV33.

But Max Verstappen, true to his nature, has swerved left when everyone expected him to go right.

In a move that has sparked intense debate across social media, Verstappen has officially confirmed that he will not be returning to number 33 for the 2026 season. Instead, he is rebranding to Number 3. “MV3” is the new reality.

The backstory here is fascinating and touches on the often-overlooked camaraderie (and politics) of driver numbers. Max revealed that #3 was always his favorite number, his first choice since childhood. However, when he entered the sport, the number was occupied by none other than his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo. Under FIA rules, a driver holds the rights to their number for two full seasons after leaving the sport. Since Ricciardo departed recently, the number should technically still be locked.

Max’s explanation of how he secured the number was typically blunt and unintentionally hilarious. He noted that Ricciardo “cooperated” with the request. The phrasing—described by some as “very Dutch”—almost made it sound like a hostage negotiation! In reality, it reflects the mutual respect between the two. Ricciardo, ever the gentleman, likely gave his blessing without hesitation, allowing Max to finally race with the digit he has coveted for over a decade.

But does MV3 carry the same aura? For a generation of fans, 33 is Max. Seeing a single digit on the Red Bull—specifically one so closely linked to the Honey Badger—will take some getting used to. It marks a symbolic reset for Verstappen. The “Mad Max” of the 33 era is gone; the dominant champion of the #1 era has paused; now, we enter the unknown chapter of MV3.

The Red Bull Exodus: A Team Transformed

This number change comes at a time when Red Bull Racing itself is undergoing a metamorphosis. The team that Max drives for in 2026 will look drastically different from the juggernaut of 2023. The departures are racking up: Jonathan Wheatley, Rob Marshall, Will Courtenay, and perhaps most critically, the looming exit of Helmut Marko.

The “ruthless machine” built by Dietrich Mateschitz is evolving. Observers have noted a change in tone—a shift from the cold, hard competitive edge to something slightly softer, perhaps exemplified by their new mascot “Boxy.” While mascots are fun, they don’t design fast cars. And the man who did design the fast cars is no longer there.

This brings us to the second, and arguably more significant, bombshell rocking the F1 world.

Newey’s Nightmare for Rivals: The 2026 “Trick”

Adrian Newey is gone. He has traded the Red Bull energy station for the ambitious project at Aston Martin, and if the latest rumors from the Italian press are to be believed, he hasn’t gone there to retire. He has gone there to dominate.

The 2026 technical regulations were supposed to be a reset button. They were designed to simplify the aerodynamics, removing the complex “Venturi tunnels” that defined the current ground-effect era. The goal was to eliminate the bouncing (porpoising) and make the cars rely more on engine power. But you cannot simply legislate away the laws of physics, especially when Adrian Newey is reading the rulebook.

Reports are circulating that Newey has found a “loophole” or a clever exploitation of the rules regarding the car’s suspension. While active suspension is banned, Newey—who pioneered active suspension technology with Williams in the 90s—is rumored to be developing a passive suspension system that mimics the effects of the banned tech.

Here is the technical breakdown in simple terms: The 2026 cars will have “active aero” (movable wings) but a flat floor. Newey’s reported concept involves designing the suspension geometry in such a way that when the car enters a corner, the suspension mechanically squats and seals the edges of the floor against the track surface.

If successful, this would recreate the “Venturi effect” that the FIA tried to ban. It would create a massive low-pressure zone under the car, sucking it down to the tarmac and generating immense downforce that rival cars simply cannot match. While other teams are struggling to make the new hybrid engines work or fighting to hit the minimum weight limit, Newey might have effectively found a way to cheat the wind.

    The Brawn GP Parallel

Veteran F1 fans will feel a sense of déjà vu. This situation mirrors the 2009 season, where Ross Brawn found a loophole in the diffuser regulations (the “Double Diffuser”). His team, Brawn GP, showed up to the first race with a car that was seconds a lap faster than everyone else. They won the championship easily.

Could 2026 be the year of Aston Martin? The ingredients are terrifyingly perfect. You have the Honda engine (which has powered Max’s dominance), the manufacturing might of the Aston Martin factory, and the brain of Adrian Newey potentially unlocking a distinct aerodynamic advantage.

If these rumors hold water, Max Verstappen might be looking at the back of an Aston Martin gearbox for the entirety of the 2026 season. Or, perhaps more intriguingly, he might be looking at a contract to join them.

    The Driver Market Shuffle

This technical revelation throws gasoline on the driver market fire. Aston Martin currently fields Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Alonso is an ageless wonder, but he will be entering the twilight of his career. Lance Stroll, while showing flashes of resilience, is generally not considered a championship-caliber driver in the same tier as Verstappen.

If Aston Martin produces a rocket ship, they will want the best pilot in the cockpit. Rumors of Lawrence Stroll courting Verstappen have never really gone away. If Red Bull continues its “brain drain” and slips in competitiveness, and if Aston Martin unveils a “Newey Monster” in 2026, the allure of the Green Team might become irresistible for the newly christened MV3.

    Conclusion: A Season of Secrets

As we countdown to the car launches—with Aston Martin set to reveal their challenger on February 9th—the tension is palpable. The 2026 season isn’t just a new championship; it’s a battle of philosophies. It’s the new corporate Red Bull versus the technical genius of Newey unleashed at Aston Martin.

Max Verstappen has chosen his number. He’s ready to write a new chapter. But the pen he writes it with might depend entirely on whether Adrian Newey has indeed “cooked up” one last magic trick to stun the world. One thing is for certain: the F1 history books are about to get a lot more interesting.

“It was weird because we didn’t know he was dead for, like, three weeks,” Pete added. “They were finding people, you know? They were pulling people out…and there was just some sort of hope. It was just up and down, and nobody knew how to deal with it.”

  • F1 2026 REVOLUTION: The “Reset Button” That Kills DRS, Shrinks the Cars, and Unleashes a 50/50 Hybrid Monster

F1 2026 REVOLUTION: The “Reset Button” That Kills DRS, Shrinks the Cars, and Unleashes a 50/50 Hybrid Monster

Formula 1 is standing on the precipice of its most significant transformation in decades. The sport we know and love is about to hit a massive “reset button,” ushering in a new era defined by agility, sustainability, and raw strategic warfare. The FIA has officially revealed the regulations for the 2026 season, and to call them a “game-changer” would be a drastic understatement. This isn’t just a fresh coat of paint or a minor tweak to the front wings; this is a complete foundational overhaul designed to fix the complaints of the past and future-proof the pinnacle of motorsport.

From cars that shed their “clumsy” weight to engines that roar with equal parts petrol and electricity, the 2026 grid will look, sound, and race differently than anything we’ve seen before. Let’s dive deep into the revolution that promises to turn the order of the grid upside down.

The “Diet” Revolution: Smaller, Lighter, Nimble

For years, drivers and fans alike have voiced a common complaint: F1 cars have become boats. They are heavy, wide, and sluggish in slow corners—often compared to driving a luxury SUV rather than a precision sports car. The 2026 regulations address this head-on with a strict “diet” plan that aims to bring the “spark” back to the chassis.

The new machines will be visibly smaller and lighter. The wheelbase—the distance between the front and rear wheels—is being shortened significantly, while the overall width of the car is being reduced. While shaving off centimeters might not sound like headline news to the casual observer, in the world of precision engineering, this is a monumental shift. A shorter wheelbase creates a car that is far more eager to rotate, making it “pointy” and responsive in tight sectors.

Furthermore, the weight limit is finally dropping. After years of cars getting heavier with every regulation cycle, the 2026 specs demand a lighter machine. This reduction reduces the inertia the drivers have to fight against, making the cars dance through chicanes rather than lumber through them. The removal of the small arches over the front wheels is just one of many tweaks aimed at reducing drag and cleaning up the airflow. The philosophy is clear: a return to the nimble, agile, “throwable” race cars that reward bravery and precision over pure downforce management.

The Death of DRS and the Rise of “Active Aero”

Perhaps the most shocking headline from the new rulebook is the death of the Drag Reduction System (DRS). Since its introduction, DRS has been a controversial “necessary evil”—a button that opens the rear wing to give a trailing car an artificial speed boost to overtake. In 2026, DRS is gone. In its place comes a futuristic, high-tech solution: Active Aerodynamics.

This system is not just a passing aid; it is a fundamental part of how the car operates. Drivers will have the ability to adjust the angle of both the front and rear wings while driving.

Here is how it works: In the corners, the wings will default to a “High Downforce” mode, sticking the car to the tarmac and allowing for maximum grip and cornering speed. However, once the driver hits the straight, they can activate a “Low Drag” mode. This literally flattens out the wing elements, slicing through the air with minimal resistance and granting a massive boost in top speed. The best part? This isn’t limited to specific “zones” or only when you are behind someone. It is a tool available to every driver, on every lap. It puts the management of speed and grip directly into the cockpit, removing the artificial nature of DRS and replacing it with a strategic tool that drivers must master.

The 50/50 Power Unit: A Hybrid Monster

Under the engine cover, the changes are just as radical. The sport is keeping the 1.6-liter V6 Turbo architecture that has defined the hybrid era, but the internal balance of power is shifting dramatically.

Currently, the internal combustion engine (ICE) does the heavy lifting. In 2026, the split between the petrol engine and the electric motor will be roughly 50/50. The electric motor’s power output is being nearly tripled to a staggering 350kW. This means that while the screaming V6 will produce slightly less power on its own, the electric system will fill the gap with instant, torque-filled acceleration.

This shift is critical for two reasons. First, it aligns Formula 1 with the global automotive trend towards electrification, making the technology relevant to road cars. Second, it has successfully wooed major manufacturers like Audi and Ford to join the grid, proving that F1 is once again the place to be for automotive innovation.

Fueling these monsters is another breakthrough: 100% sustainable fuel. Sourced from carbon capture technology, municipal waste, and non-food biomass, this fuel ensures that while the engines still scream, their carbon footprint is virtually non-existent. It is a bold step toward the sport’s “Net Zero by 2030” goal, ensuring that the roar of an engine can survive in an eco-conscious world.

The “Video Game” Element: Manual Overtake Mode

If Active Aero wasn’t enough to excite the strategists, the introduction of the “Manual Overtake Mode” certainly will. Because the electric motor is so powerful, how that energy is deployed becomes a massive tactical weapon.

The new rules introduce a logic similar to the “KERS” system of the past but on steroids. Drivers will have a “Boost Button” or a specific overtake mode that dumps extra electrical energy into the wheels. This is designed to be used when a driver is within one second of a rival—giving them that critical surge of power needed to close the gap and make a move.

It creates a fascinating game of cat and mouse. Do you use your battery energy to defend a position now, or do you save it for a blistering lap later? The car doesn’t just give you everything automatically; the driver has to choose when to deploy their arsenal. It reintroduces resource management as a key skill, separating the thinking drivers from the ones who just drive flat-out.

    Safety and the Great Unknown

Of course, speed is nothing without safety. The 2026 chassis will feature a strengthened “survival cell,” a tougher roll hoop (likely a response to scary rollover accidents in recent years), and improved side-impact structures. The sport continues to push the boundaries of driver protection, ensuring that as cars get faster and battles get closer, the risk is managed as effectively as possible.

Ultimately, the 2026 regulations represent a “Great Unknown.” History tells us that major rule changes often shake up the competitive order—just look at how Mercedes dominated the start of the hybrid era in 2014. With such a radical departure from the current “ground effect” cars, the door is wide open for a midfield team to find a “magic bullet” innovation and leap to the front.

Will Red Bull maintain their edge? will Ferrari adapt? Or will a newcomer like Audi shock the world? The only certainty is that Formula 1 is changing. The cars will be harder to drive, the strategy will be deeper, and the racing—hopefully—will be closer than ever. The reset button has been pressed; now we just have to wait for the lights to go out.

Sports Personality of the Year host Gabby Logan’s kids have moved out, making her wonder if it’s time for a change

V host and former athlete Gabby Logan is lighting up our screens tonight as host of the Sports Personality of the Year awards, adding to her already busy schedule, including Match of the Day, which she took over hosting from Gary Lineker this summer.

When she’s not working hard, the 52-year-old relaxes at her sprawling mansion in Buckinghamshire – but it’s not quite as busy in her and her husband Kenny’s country pad as it once was, since their twins Lois and Reuben both left home.

Now with an empty nest, Gabby’s mind wanders to where she might move, telling us: “Whenever I look at property porn, I always put Edinburgh in,” before adding: “But it’s totally impractical, I’d spend my whole life on a plane, coming south or going to Manchester.”

Although she toys with the idea of selling up, she’s aware the kids might not be ready for that just yet, explaining: “I feel as we’re close enough to London that if Lois did get a job in London, she’d want to be living back at home. And there’s a period where I think you’ve got to take their emotions into consideration if you can, not just wrenching things away. It’s not up to them, but you can consider them for a while.”

With such a gorgeous house at home, we can see why Lois might like to return…

Courtroom Showdown Erupts in Crowborough as Furious Residents Sue the Government Over Explosive Migrant Housing Plans, Triggering a National Political Storm

A legal battle has been launched in the high court over Government plans to move hundreds of asylum seekers into a military camp in east Sussex.

Crowborough Shield, a community-led campaign group, has lodged an application for a full judicial review of the decision to place more than 500 asylum seekers at the camp.

The Government says the camp will help in its pledge to stop using hotels to house asylum seekers.

But Crowborough Shield says there has been a lack of transparency surrounding the decision and have raised serious concerns about staffing at the camp, police provision and the impact on health services.

It comes as police had to arrest a man over ‘violent disorder’ outside the local barracks on Tuesday.

In a statement the campaign group, which has raised almost £70,000 to pay legal fees, said: ‘We can confirm that, on behalf of the people of Crowborough, we have issued proceedings against the Home Secretary in respect of her decision to house migrants at Crowborough Camp.

‘We are seeking judicial review to overturn the decision. Our position is that the government’s actions breach the community’s common law rights to justice and procedural fairness.

‘We rely on Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights which protects our right to a fair hearing. Our position is that residents have been denied the opportunity to understand, scrutinise, or challenge the decision-making process.’

Kim Bailey, director of the group, said: ‘There is huge frustration in the community that a decision with such a fundamental impact on our town has been made without consultation or engagement.

‘It feels as though the government doesn’t think we matter. The barracks site is unsuitable for housing asylum seekers – many of whom will have fled conflict and trauma – and its location beside the Ashdown Forest risks significant environmental harm. In the absence of any clear information, fear and uncertainty are growing across the town.’

Polly Glynn, a solicitor at Deighton Pierce Glynn who is representing Crowborough Shield, said the case would test the limits of government power over community’s right to be heard over decisions.

On Tuesday night several police cars raced to the scene after an alleged confrontation between a protester and a worker attempting to leave ended in a report of assault.

Sussex Police issue a temporary section 34 dispersal notice giving officers powers to order people to leave roads surrounding the barracks.

Chief Supt Nick Dias said a 44-year-old man from Heathfield was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

‘Investigations are continuing into several reported assaults and threats of violence during the incident.’

He said he knew the proposed use of the training camp had ’caused concern within the community’.

‘We recognise the public’s right to peacefully protest and express their views. The vast majority of those who have taken part in recent demonstrations have done so lawfully and respectfully.

‘However, when the actions of a small minority stray into criminality, we will take appropriate action.’

Last week a group of residents were branded ‘vigilantes’ after they set up a patrol to tackle anti-social behaviour after the arrival of the migrant in the town.

The Crowborough Patrol will wander the town centre day and night wearing hi-viz jackets and red baseball caps.

Patrol members joined thousands of residents in the market town who have marched through the streets against the move.

One resident criticised the move saying the launch of the patrol only added to tensions in the 22,000-resident town.

He said: ‘A bunch of vigilantes with too much time on their hands is the last thing this town needs.

‘It is already a powder keg situation and what we don’t need is for a self-appointed gang ready to put a flame to it. It’s a provocation and should be stopped by the police.’

Work has already started on making the army cadet training camp fit to house 540 asylum seekers with accommodation, toilet blocks and security fencing being erected.

A group of protesters staged a picket at the entrance into the camp in an attempt to challenge workers carrying out construction at at the camp.

On Monday the 37-acre site officially ceased to be a Ministry of Defence base with the Home Office becoming the new landlord.

As well as legal action launched by Crowborough Shield, Weald District Council says it is taking the advice of senior barristers to explore what legal channels may be open to them should the Government press ahead with the plans.

The camp itself has a proud history going back to the war, when it was used by Canadian forces preparing for D-Day.

Residents, especially those that live on their own, say they are installing panic alarms in their homes over safety fears.

The Home Office has apologised for its handling of its plans to use the the Crowborough camp to house asylum seekers but says it is determined to stamp out the use of hotels to house migrants.

Coldplay kisscam HR boss Kristin Cabot breaks silence on viral scandal – from ‘happy crush’ with CEO to kids in tears

Cabot said she did not hear the announcement that the jumbotron was about to focus on the crowd

A HR boss caught on Coldplay’s kisscam in a viral 16-second clip has spoken publicly for the first time.

Kristin Cabot, 53, a former senior exec at tech firm Astronomer, says the moment she was shown embracing her boss at a Coldplay concert in Boston “ruined” her life.

She recalled the moment Coldplay frontman Chris Martin focused the stadium camera on her and Andy Byron, then joked: “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”

Cabot told The Times: “Everything just flashed before my eyes.”

The clip, filmed by another concertgoer and posted to TikTok, was viewed millions of times and sparked an online hunt to identify the pair.

Both were widely assumed to be cheating, but Cabot said that assumption was wrong.

Husband of Coldplay kisscam ‘mistress’ Kristin Cabot finally breaks his silence

She explained the embrace was the first time she and Byron had been physically affectionate and that both were amicably separated from their partners.

“I could have been struck by lightning, I could have won the lottery, or this could have happened,” Cabot said.

“But I’m not some celebrity, I’m just a mom from New Hampshire.”

At the time, Cabot was Astronomer’s head of HR and Byron was the company’s CEO.

Urgent ‘fire risk’ recall for popular household staple from Asda

She had joined the start-up in November after being headhunted for her experience at major advertising firms.

Cabot described Byron as a supportive boss who ensured women “had a seat at the table”, adding: “It was the first company in the male-dominated professions I’d worked in where I felt my gender was not an issue.”

About a month before the concert, Cabot said, they told each other they had split from their partners.

Over time, she said that support turned into what she called “a big happy crush”.

On the night of the concert, Cabot believed she was anonymous among tens of thousands of fans.

“We were sitting in the back of the stadium … in the pitch black just feeling totally anonymous,” she said.

The former HR boss revealed she did not hear the announcement that the jumbotron was about to focus on the crowd.

“So suddenly I’m just seeing us on screen.”

Her first thoughts were of her estranged husband, Andrew, who she later learned was also at the concert.

She said: “My immediate reaction was, ‘Holy s***, Andrew’s here’.”

“Then a beat later my mind turns to, ‘Oh God, Andy’s my effing boss’.”

Cabot and Byron left the stadium quickly and agreed to alert Astronomer’s board.

By the early hours of the morning, the video was already spreading online.

At 4am, Cabot said her husband sent her a screenshot of the clip with the message: “I think you should know this is out there.”

The executive said the backlash fell disproportionately on her, adding: “I became a meme, I was the most maligned HR manager in HR history.”

She also rejected accusations that she was a “gold-digger” or had “slept my way to the top”.

Even Astronomer joked about the situation a few weeks after the viral moment.

They hired actress Gwyneth Paltrow – Chris Martin’s ex-husband – for a PR stunt where she jokingly answered questions on the shocking kiss.

The company commercial was praised for its comedy and clever timing but Cabot took it as the ultimate insult.

She revealed she threw away everything she owned from Paltrow’s brand Goop for being “a hypocrite”.

Cabot said: “I was such a fan of her company, which seemed to be about uplifting women.

“And then she did this… What a hypocrite.”

Cabot went on to speak about how the fallout quickly reached her family.

“My daughter burst into tears,” Cabot said, recalling telling her children.

Her son, she said, tried to reassure her that it would “probably go away”, but “it did not.”

Astronomer launched an internal investigation, with Byron resigning within days.

The company later said it found no evidence of an affair but said leadership standards had not been met.

Cabot stepped down soon after, saying: “There was a lot of noise around me not taking accountability, but what actually happened is the board said, ‘Please stay’, and I said, ‘How?’”

She says that without the online pile-on, she could have apologised and kept her job.

Instead, she retreated to an Airbnb, saying she was in “too dark a place” to parent her children, and has since filed for divorce from her husband.

Cabot said she has struggled to find work and has been told she is “unemployable”.

She has hired a communications adviser and says she is speaking out to highlight the harm caused by online shaming.
