Lewis Hamilton Reflects on Challenging Final Year with Mercedes: ‘I’ve had enough of this’

Lewis Hamilton believes he’s had “enough” of losing Grand Prix races, with 51 races since his last triumph, and he wants to assist Mercedes in returning to the top step of the podium.

The seven-time World Champion took the title fight all the way to the wire in Saudi Arabia, where he triumphed in the penultimate race in 2021.

Lewis Hamilton: ‘It’s been tough of course, we exist to win’

Max Verstappen overtook him on the last lap of the Abu Dhabi race, denying him a record-breaking ninth World title.

Mercedes had only one race win, with George Russell P1 at the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix, as they have failed to establish themselves in the new ground-effect aerodynamic era. Hamilton has not won a race since.

As a result, Hamilton has now gone 51 games without a win in a sport in which he has seven world championships and 103 Grands Prix.

    It’s “enough” for him.

“It’s been tough, it’s been a really challenge,” he told CBS News. “It could’ve been worse.

“It’s been a really transitional period where there has been a lot of team bonding, really low moments within the group which then ultimately bring you together.

“There’s been a lot of vulnerability within the team with all of us and it’s really been a growing experience.

“It’s been tough of course, we exist to win.

“When you’re not winning, your perspective has to shift, and it’s just then been about chasing and it’s about improvement.

“It’s about coming together. How can we make improvements? How can we get back to where we want to be? And rallying everyone up, I actually really enjoyed that experience.

“But three years in now, we’re like, ‘okay, I’ve had enough of this, let’s get back to where we belong’.”

Lewis Hamilton describes the “most painful part” of the challenges in 2024.

This is Hamilton’s last chance to assist Mercedes in doing so before he departs the team to join Ferrari at the end of the season.

However, things are not going as planned for his swansong.

The team has failed to finish on the podium and is currently in the distant P4 position in the Constructors’ Championship despite fielding an entirely new W15.

Hamilton ranks tenth in the Drivers’ standings with 27 points, his best Grand Prix result to date being a sixth-place finish in Miami.

In response to the question of whether he had wanted his last season with Mercedes to be his “best season,” he said, “I do and that’s probably the most painful part.”

“Everyone on the team wants this to be a fantastic year. Everyone put in a lot of effort in the past.

“This entire trip has been really emotional for me. just because I adore this team so much.

“I’m not unhappy there, so I’m not leaving.” My departure is not due to problems in my relationship.

From the time I was thirteen, Mercedes has helped me. They have supported me through good times and bad.

“Well, at the moment, it’s definitely a strange transition.”

Despite having an unforgettable season, Max Verstappen and Red Bull had an afternoon to forget in Brazil last Sunday. The world champion and constructors champions were humbled by the pair of Mercedes and Ferrari drivers. Moreover, the drama between Max and Checo in the final lap only made things worse for RBR boss Christian Horner.

The Dutch Lion ignored the team’s orders to give up his place to Checo, who was running behind him. The Mexican driver is in the running to finish P2 in the driver’s standing. However, after Verstappen’s little act, Checo is tied with Charles Leclerc on points. Verstappen finished the race P6 whereas Perez finished just behind him.

Max’s decision to not be a team player caused massive outrage amongst the fans. Perez’s radio comments about the Dutchman were visibly cold and frustrating. Fans then started calling out Max and even attacked his family members with online abuse.

Verstappen called out the internet trollers in Thursday’s press conference between the Abu Dhabi GP. He condemned the attacks on his family and called them “disgusting”. Verstappen also added, “If you have a problem with me, that’s fine, but don’t go after my family because that’s unacceptable”.

Lando Norris’ model girlfriend keeps quiet over his Miami Grand Prix F1 win… as ex-partner of former Chelsea star Joao Felix appears keen to keep their new relationship under wraps

Lando Norris‘ model girlfriend has not acknowledged his first Formula One victory on social media, as she appears to remain quiet on their relationship.

The McLaren star – who had held the record for most podiums without a race win – ended his barren run by beating triple world champion Max Verstappen to victory at the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday.

Norris has been spotted alongside the ex-girlfriend of Barcelona footballer Joao Felix, Portuguese model and actress Margarida Corceiro over the past year.

The pair were recently spotted at the Monte-Carlo Masters final amid her split from Felix last year. They were first spotted together last May in a video on social media showing the 24-year-old driving his Fiat Jolly with her in the back of the classic car.

A year on from that video, Corceiro remained silent about Norris’ victory on social media, appearing to suggest that she is keeping their relationship private.

Corceiro appears to be attempting to keep her relationship with Norris private as she did not acknowledge his win

Her last social media post came hours before his victory in the United States, as she acknowledged Mother’s Day in Portugal.

Neither Norris or Corceiro have posted photos of each other on social media, despite being seen together in public.

She was believed to have been in attendance for the Miami Grand Prix, but was reportedly seen in attendance at last month’s race in China.

They were also also reportedly recently spotted together at Vigo Airport in Spain, as per Portuguese publication Correio da Manha.

Corceiro has appeared on a number of Portuguese television shows and as per Portuguese outlet Maria, was a contestant in the country’s version of Dancing with the Stars back in 2020.

Norris previously dated Luisinha Oliveira, with the McLaren driver beginning a relationship with the Portuguese model at the start of 2022.

The relationship ended in September that year, with Norris confirming the split on social media.

He wrote: ‘Hello everyone. After time and consideration, Luisa and myself have mutually decided to end our relationship but remain good friends.

‘I wish her the world and have so much respect for her and all she does as an amazing and strong woman with nothing but kindness.

Lando Norris was first spotted with Corceiro in Monaco in May 2023 via social media

Corceiro was also reportedly seen boarding a private jet in Vigo, Spain, with Norris

Barcelona forward Felix was previously in a relationship with Corceiro from 2019 to 2023

‘Please respect our decision and respect our – but more importantly and especially her privacy moving forward. Thank you for your endless support.’

Corceiro meanwhile dated Felix between 2019 and 2023. Despite their split, she insisted that they were still in each other’s lives.

She took to her social media platforms to confirm the end of their relationship last year, writing: ‘Joao and I achieved goals together for a few years, in a phase of change, growth and learning. Not having been together as a couple for some time, I am lucky enough to be a part of his life.’

Red Bull endured a nightmare safety car restart that gave British ace Norris a chance to overtake Verstappen and race ahead, sparking wild celebrations among McLaren’s ranks and the friends and supporters of the 24-year-old.

Bristol-born Norris becomes the first McLaren driver to win a race for the British F1 team since Australian, Daniel Ricciardo, did so at the Italian Grand Prix in 2021.

Donald Trump congratulated Norris on his maiden Formula 1 victory in Miami on Sunday

His first victory came in his 110th race, with only eight drivers waiting longer before they took their first win in the sport’s history.

Donald Trump was in the McLaren garage during the race on Sunday and congratulated Norris after the race.

‘He saw me after and he came up to congratulate me so I guess it’s an honor,’ Norris told Mail Sport.

‘Whenever you have someone like this come up to you to take time out of their life to pay their respect for what you’ve done… it has to be an honor,’ he went on.

Formula 1’s returns this weekend to Europe for the eight race weekend of the 2024 season.

20 drivers will descend on Monte Carlo this weekend as F1 hits the historic narrow streets of the Principality for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Monaco is widely regarded as the most prestigious race on the entire F1 calendar and is a race every driver dreams of being on the podium for due to its rich history and iconic moments through the years.

Unlike some race weekends where the Grand Prix itself is the main highlight, watching the practice and qualifying of the Monaco GP can be just as exciting.

Although producing a good qualifying session is always important in F1, it is a must at Monaco as the tight, windy streets of Monte Carlo make it almost impossible for drivers to overtake each other.

Here is everything you need to know about the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix including full schedule, UK start times and where to watch all of this weekend’s action.

Practice One for the highly anticipated street circuit race is set to get underway at 12:30pm BST.

Qualifying for the Grand Prix will take place on the Saturday, with the first round scheduled for 3pm.

What will the weather be like this weekend in Monaco?

As it stands the weather for the entire race weekend as a whole is likely to remain dry.

Forecasters have only projected a 20 percent of rain on Friday and a 10 percent chance of rain on Saturday.

Although as we have witnessed in previous years that may well change, potentially causing some drama in practice and qualifying.

The weather on Sunday for the race is expected to be pleasant and sunny.

Lando Norris ‘CAN challenge me for the world title’, Max Verstappen claims… as the Red Bull star casts doubt on his own chances in Monaco this weekend

Max Verstappen believes Lando Norris can challenge him for the world championship, possibly starting with victory in Monaco this weekend.

A moribund title contest has hotted up, with Norris winning for McLaren in Miami at the start of the month and harrying Verstappen all the way to the chequered flag in Imola last week. He finished less than a second behind the defending champion in a brilliant late fight.

Although 60 points behind Verstappen, Norris has 17 races to claw back the deficit. ‘Lando is really in the mix,’ said the Dutchman.

‘He is quite a few points down, but if they suddenly start winning that can turn around quite quickly.

‘It has closed up which makes it very important to be at our very best. Imola started off badly and we managed to turn it around, but I wouldn’t want to have a weekend like that again.’

Verstappen has twice won on the principality’s famously tight streets but he fears the circuit’s unique demands will not play to the strengths of his Red Bull machinery.

‘It is a different track and not our best because our car struggles off the kerbs and in the low speed,’ he added.

‘We have worked on that and improved it, but it is not going to be a very easy weekend.’

Max Verstappen’s dad Jos will return to F1 race for first time since claiming Red Bull would ‘EXPLODE’ if shamed Christian Horner remained team principal, as Dutchman is seen arriving for Monaco GP

Jos Verstappen will return to an F1 race for the first time since telling Mail Sport Red Bull could be ‘torn apart’ if Christian Horner stayed on following the scandal that engulfed the team principal and organisation.

In a development that could prove to be explosive and awkward this weekend in Monaco, the father of world champion Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, is to be back in the fold and was pictured arriving at the famous circuit on Thursday afternoon.

Horner, who is married to former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, was cleared following a lengthy investigation into allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards a female colleague.

Verstappen Snr also previously said the situation would ‘explode’ at Red Bull if Horner clung onto his job.

Back in March, he told Mail Sport: ‘There is tension here while he remains in position.

‘The team is in danger of being torn apart. It can’t go on the way it is. It will explode. He is playing the victim, when he is the one causing the problems.’

The eyes of the wider world had been focused on the storm around Horner, 50, after sexually suggestive text messages he allegedly sent to a female employee came to public attention in a leaked email.

That leak was 24 hours after an investigation by Red Bull’s parent company in Stuttgart cleared Horner of ‘coercive behaviour’ towards the female colleague.

Mail Sport previously revealed that Jos, a former team-mate of Michael Schumacher, had a blazing row in Horner’s paddock office after qualifying of the season’s opening race in Bahrain.

Verstappen, 51, walked out of the fiery meeting before returning to the room and reluctantly shaking hands.

According to his affiliates, Horner believes Verstappen Snr has orchestrated a campaign to unseat him for the past few weeks, the implication being that the Dutchman even had a hand in the email leak.

Verstappen denied the claims, saying: ‘That wouldn’t make sense. Why would I do that when Max is doing so well here?’

The fallout has been significant and legendary Red Bull car designer Adrian Newey will leave at the end of the season and is expected to join Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari next term.

Red Bull have been beaten on two occasions already this season, once by Ferrari and then by Lando Norris of McLaren in what looks to be a more open race for the championship.

As we previously reported , the widely reported rift is claimed to have begun during a dress fitting for Princess Charlotte, where Meghan is said to have made the Duchess of Cambridge cry.

Meghan, 37, enjoyed a luxurious five-day break in New York with a host of celebrity pals including Amal Clooney and Serena Williams.

She stayed in a penthouse suite at the five-star Mark Hotel and dined out at some of her favourite restaurants and cafes.

Meanwhile, the date of the UK baby shower is not known – and may put to bed rumours of a rift between the princes’ wives.

Queen Camilla is said to be “stressed” about King Charles’s workload as he continues cancer treatment.

The King has returned to royal duties in recent weeks after a successful start to his treatment but according to royal expert Rafe Heydel-Mankoo, Camilla thinks he is doing too much.

Charles returned to his usual work on April 30 and last week hosted a garden party for 7,000 people at Buckingham Palace.

On Monday he visited an army base for an emotional joint engagement with his son, Prince William, where he handed over a key military role to him.

Speaking on GB News, Mr Heydel-Mankoo said: “The Queen has said that if he behaved better, he’d be improving far more rapidly.

“I think she might be a bit stressed at the number of activities he’s done I mean, just in the last week he went to Middle Wallop in Hampshire to an air base to hand over to Prince William, the colonel in chief of the Army Air Corps.

“He has hosted a garden party for 4000 people from the creative industries.

“He’s attended a service at Saint Paul’s Cathedral for the order of the British Empire, and he made a surprise visit to the Royal Opera House on Thursday, where he seemed to be in very good spirits too.

“So I think we should all take some good heart from His Majesty. This is clear progress.”

Buckingham Palace has already confirmed that “forthcoming engagements will be adapted where necessary” to accommodate the King’s recovery following his cancer treatment.

King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Prince William will also commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day on June 5 and 6.

Mr Heydel-Mankoo also revealed that it is “unlikely” that Princess Kate will attend the event as she recovers from her own cancer diagnosis.

He said: “Last year she was there, resplendent in a green dress and we’re waiting to see whether she will also be attending this time or not.

“But there’s been no mention of her attending the D-Day ceremonies, although the Prince of Wales will be attending the Canadian beach Juno, and also at the Omaha Beach, where the international heads of state, but no word of the Princess of Wales attending that.”

Experts fear ‘petulant and immature’ Meghan Markle is already gearing up to throw a hissy fit over the incoming documentary.

Accusations against the Duchess have been brought to light by royal commentator and author Tom Quinn.

Meghan Markle 'in panic' over new TV documentary over 'criticism' fears, claims royal expert - Irish Mirror Online

He weighed in on everything during one of his most recent interviews with The Mirror.

During that time the expert noted, “Meghan is in panic mode about the new documentary being made by a German journalist.”

“She will assume that unless she is invited to take part and, better still, to have a final say over what is included in the program it is likely to be critical,” he later also added.

Meghan Markle US politics entry would ‘make a great story'

“Meghan can’t see that she should adopt the old royal motto – never explain, never complain,” because “Meghan’s obsession with ‘my truth’ means she just can’t do this.”

However, at the same time, “if she reacts to any criticism in the programme – and there is definitely going to be some criticism – it will just draw more fire.”

The same author also went on to note, “Having a hissy fit every time she is criticised makes Meghan seem petulant and immature.”

Six clues Meghan Markle has fooled us all with Baby Sussex

Meghan has been determined to do things differently from the start — which is why these six clues have people thinking she’s tricked everyone.

Strange as it may seem, the royal family is quite open about what they are up to a lot of the time.

You can download their finances to see what they dropped on sending Princess Anne to Madagascar ($94,500) and how much their greenhouse gas emissions have dropped over the last year (20 per cent thankyou very much).

However, Buckingham Palace remains adamantly tight-lipped about one situation: the Duchess of Sussex and her baby.

However, quite a few clues point to the very tantalising possibility Meghan has already given birth, and Baby Sussex is currently tucked up asleep in Frogmore Cottage in his or her gender-neutral nursery.

    Let’s review the evidence.

    THE PARKING LOT FURORE

Earlier this week, it was reported Windsor Castle staffers were positively miffed because they were denied access to a carpark that overlooks Harry and Meghan’s new digs, Frogmore Cottage. According to The Sun, the good employees were so put out they had even come with a nifty nickname. “Everyone’s calling them NIMBYs, meaning not in Meghan’s backyard!” an unnamed source told the British paper. Very naughty!

Superficially, this might sound like some dull workplace shenanigans up there with the curious case of who stole Derek’s corned beef sandwich from the Windsor staff kitchen. However, the palace’s level of neuroticism about who may or may not be able to see into the Sussexes’ garden suggests they have something they don’t want people to see. Something they might want to hide from curious strangers and the long lenses of the crafty paparazzi. Something like a tiny adorable new royal!

    THE NUMBERS GAME

With each of her babies, the Duchess of Cambridge undertook her last royal engagement one month before popping along to the Lindo Wing to give birth. Meghan’s last official outing was on March 19, which is exactly 30 days ago — i.e. it’s baby time! Numbers don’t lie.

    THE INSTA POST

Two days ago, Harry and Meghan took to their lovely new Instagram account to thank people who had made generous donations in lieu of sending baby presents. The caption read: “On behalf of The Duke and Duchess (and Baby Sussex), we thank you so much”, and thus the Internet melted down.

The direct reference to Baby Sussex is very unusual — Kate and Wills never directly referenced their unborn bubs in social media posts.

    THE MAKE-UP MAESTRO

Daniel Martin is not only one of Meghan’s besties but he did her make-up for her wedding. Last week, he shared an Instagram story that placed him in Windsor, aka in Megs’ hood. It would make perfect sense for him to be in the UK to help get her camera ready for the first shot the couple release of themselves with their bub.

    THE INTERNATIONAL JAUNT

As Britain slides into the Brexit abyss, the UK Government has an ace up their sleeves to charm the Europeans: Charles and Camilla! Yesterday it was reported the Cornwalls were taking their patented royal double act to Germany on May 7 for a Kraut charm offensive. (Read: So they might be kinder to Theresa May next time she goes to Brussels to beg for leniency from the EU.)

The timing is very interesting. Charles is said to be quite the devoted grandfather and step-grandfather and there is no chance he would be jetting off to the continent if he had not already spent some quality bonding time with his newest family member. (That would just be the wurst. Boom tish.) All of which makes it even more likely Meghan’s due date might be far earlier than we had realised.

    THE DIARY RIDDLE

Everyday the very lucky (London) Times gets to publish the court circular that outlines what the Windsor family gets up to day-to-day.

For example, yesterday: “Her Royal Highness, Former President, Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers, afterwards presented the Princess Royal Award and the Royal Dairy Innovation Award at Buckingham Palace.” Translation: Princess Anne spent yesterday talking about udders and exciting advances in nipple sterilisation.

Harry was also at work. He had a briefing from Chatham House on international affairs and then convened a roundtable on climate change at Kensington Palace.

But wait! As Vanity Fair has pointed out, what craftier way to put the press off the scent and to distract from all those crying noises that might be coming out of Frogmore Cottage than to look like he was busy at work?

Intriguingly, Hazza has no future engagements for the next four months (though there is every chance he might pop along to the Trooping of the Colour in June), which would mean he needs to be at home right now and for the near future.

We can interpret that two ways: One, he has blocked out this time to binge on the new series of Game of Thrones, or two, he has secretly become a papa and is trying to work out how the heck you change a nappy.
