In one of his earlier live streams with Team Redline, Max Verstappen openly showed his frustration when they randomly played the Dutch national anthem to mess with him. The Dutchman, like many F1 fans, is tired of listening to the same tune week after week. But, would he have it any other way? Surely he’d want to keep on winning but he also has an alternative tune for replacement.

In a snippet of an interview posted by @FanaticsFerrari on X, Verstappen said, “When I’m not winning, I happily listen to the Italian national anthem on the podium. On the podium, it’s not nice to not win, but when you’re not winning, and you hear the Italian national anthem, it’s a beautiful one.”

The three-time champion cleared that he was in no mood to see his dominant run end any time soon. Owing to his superior performances in 2023, the Dutch national anthem played 19 times. The form has carried over to 2024 as Verstappen has already won five out of seven races. But given a choice, he would perhaps swap his nation’s anthem with the Italian.

The snippet is possibly from the Emilia Romagna GP that concluded last weekend. That looks evident in the loud cheer that Max Verstappen got from the sea of Ferrari fans. His comment also lends legitimacy to Sebastian Vettel’s famous quote- “Everybody is a Ferrari fan. Even if they say they’re not, they are Ferrari fans”.

Now, Verstappen’s liking for the Italian anthem could be due to his friend and old karting rival Charles Leclerc racing for the Italian outfit. The duo have continued their on-track tussle in F1 as well, trading poles and fighting for wins whenever they can.

The growing proximity between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc

Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc were not always on the cordial terms they are on these days. Growing up, the duo raced against each other during their karting days. The future F1 drivers once crashed into each other, an accident that led to the famous “nothing, just an inchident” moment.

That rivalry has carried over as they race in the premier class of motor racing. However, tempers have relatively calmed down and the two seem to enjoy each other’s company. Verstappen and Leclerc often land on the podium and are seen sharing their views on the race in the cool-down room.

There is, however, a massive gulf between them when it comes to career achievements. While Max Verstappen is looking to bag his fourth world championship in 2024, Charles Leclerc is nowhere near his first. The Monegasque, however, is emerging as a challenger to his old foe as Ferrari continues to make progress with its car design.

Mercedes driver George Russell had the legs on his seven-time world champion teammate, Lewis Hamilton, throughout the Qualifying session for the Monaco GP as he was the faster of the two during all three sessions. After failing to outqualify his teammate for the seventh time this season, Hamilton revealed why he was lacking the pace on the streets of Monte Carlo.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1, Hamilton revealed, “The team have worked really hard back at the factory to bring an upgrade to the last two races and also an upgrade this weekend but we only have one, which George has.” Hamilton then added that he had anticipated that it would be a difficult task to out-qualify Russell, owing to the lack of upgrades on his W15.

In addition to an older-spec W15, Hamilton was left baffled once again by the inconsistency of the Mercedes car. Speaking about the car’s handling from the Free Practice sessions into Qualifying, he said, “That’s definitely frustrating and something I don’t have an answer for.”

Unpredictability and an inability to drive through the issues of the car have defined Lewis Hamilton’s season so far. On the contrary, his teammate seems to have coped better with the often frustrating Mercedes package.

Going into the Grand Prix on Sunday, Russell has out-qualified Hamilton 7-1 this season and also is the leading Mercedes driver in the driver’s championship. Naturally, Russell is highly optimistic about his chances on the streets of the Principality on Sunday.

George Russell predicts Mercedes turnaround at Monaco despite Lewis Hamilton’s complaints

The mood seems to be divisive within the Mercedes camp. On the one hand, Lewis Hamilton has been left frustrated by how difficult the car has been to drive. However, Russell, on the other hand, is predicting a turnaround for the Silver Arrows, starting with Sunday’s race.

After qualifying in fifth for the Grand Prix, Russell gave his feedback about the team’s upgrades. Crash.net quoted the #63 driver as saying, “We are making huge progress at the moment. We’ve brought new bits to the car this weekend and it’s been great. I am hoping it is a turning point. Monaco has never been a strength for our car.”

Hamilton may not have the upgrades on his car yet but he may be getting them at the next round of the F1 championship. The general norm within the paddock is to alternate the race weekends when they bring a major upgrade package to their car. Hence, the 2024 Canadian GP seems like the race for Hamilton to reap the benefit of a reworked W15.

Max Verstappen had an uncharacteristically disappointing Qualifying session at the 2024 Monaco GP weekend. The three-time world champion’s eight-consecutive pole streak ended with only the sixth fastest lap time after Q3. Despite the RB20’s limitations on the streets of Monte Carlo, Martin Brundle pointed out that it was a driver-error that cost the Dutchman pole.

Brundle was quoted by Sky Sports F1 as explaining, “Max [Verstappen] gave it full send into Turn One and the car wouldn’t stick. That’s what he had to do to try and steal pole but it cost him four more places.”

Verstappen‘s Qualifying result has all but extinguished his chances for fighting for the win. The Monaco circuit is notoriously difficult to overtake at, and starting from the third-row of the grid, the #1 driver has compromised his chances of catching pole-sister Charles Leclerc.

It was a disastrous afternoon for the Red Bull team. While Verstappen faltered during his final flying effort during Q3, his teammate, Sergio Perez, didn’t even make it that far. The #11 driver was shockingly knocked out in Q1 and will start the Grand Prix on Sunday from 18th on the grid.

The RB20’s limitations were exposed this weekend as Verstappen has struggled throughout the weekend so far for grip on the kerbs and the bumpy tarmac. On the flip side, rivals like McLaren and Ferrari have unlocked massive potential from their packages after introducing upgrades during the last two race weekends, respectively.

Is Red Bull no longer unbeatable?

McLaren and Ferrari out-qualified both the Red Bulls for the Grand Prix. However, what would really pinch the Milton-Keynes based team would be how Mercedes also fared against their drivers.

Verstappen will be caught in a Mercedes sandwich on the starting grid for the Grand Prix. The #1 driver was out-qualified by George Russell and Lewis Hamilton was less than a tenth away from doing the same. In the context of the rest of the season, this is an ominous sign for the reigning world champions.

That said, while Verstappen conceded that the RB20 had some limitations, he believes their lack of pace was a circuit-specific issue. But with the likes of Ferrari and McLaren closing the gap on Red Bull and Verstappen, the 2024 season could finally feature a three-way title fight.

Despite the American races’ glitz and glamor, the Monaco GP’s thrill remains unmatched. Whether it’s fans or Lewis Hamilton himself, the magic of the Principality remains incomparable. As Hamilton gets ready for another 78 laps around this beautiful circuit, he looks back at the first time he stepped foot on the streets of Monaco.

Before the titles and accolades, when Lewis Hamilton was just an aspiring F1 driver who made a name for himself in karting and the junior Formulas, he was present trackside before the start of the 2006 Monaco Grand Prix.

Having just won the GP2 race with ART Grand Prix by eight seconds on the weekend, Hamilton was riding the high in a conversation with Martin Brundle, confident he would be in F1 next year. “Hopefully. It’s fantastic to be here. I just hope I can sit there next year.”

And he was. Although Fernando Alonso won the 2007 Monaco GP from pole, it was the McLaren rookie chasing him that missed the victor’s step by four seconds. Still, a nod to Hamilton’s near-perfect rookie year as an F1 driver.

Now, 17 years, seven World Championships, huge international fame, and a dynasty later, Hamilton looks back on another Brundle moment this weekend at the Principality. “I first came here when I was 13, and that really opened my mind. I got to go on the [F1] grid, which was crazy because I had only seen Martin Brundle in there. It is a really special place.”

Lewis Hamilton and the next chapter

In 2006, Hamilton won the GP2 race in Monaco driving for Fred Vasseur’s team, ART. Next year, almost two decades since the aforementioned feat, Hamilton will join Ferrari and drive for a Vasseur-led team in Monaco once again.

It is one of the lesser talked about excitements about Hamilton’s move to Ferrari. Vasseur and Leclerc’s relationship is well known. But the Ferrari changemaker and their new hero go way back. They have grown together, a championship-winning partnership that eventually brought both of them to the pinnacle of motorsport.

That’s the fun part. Replicating the same dynamics at Ferrari and bringing the championship back to Maranello. Hamilton and Vasseuer are embarking on a journey they have been on before, but elevating it. The 2025 sentence has a lot to offer, but all eyes are on Hamilton and his new era in Red.

Max Verstappen’s hot streak of eight consecutive pole positions in F1 came to an end in Monaco on Saturday. The three-time World Champion was dragged back to earth after his recent highs, as his P6 starting position takes almost all chances of a win away. Despite anticipating such a result heading into the session, Verstappen did admit that the RB20 let him down.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after Q3, Verstappen said,

“I’m not disappointed with the position, I’m disappointed with our performance. It’s not come as a surprise to me because I knew our limitations coming into this weekend.”

This season, Verstappen has won five out of the seven races so far. However, he writes off winning in Monaco even before the lights go out on Sunday. The circuit is infamous for its lack of overtaking opportunities, and Verstappen has made peace with the fact.

The Dutch driver wasn’t happy with the Red Bull’s handling on Friday and Saturday. He struggled on the bumpy tarmac, and the Monte Carlo Street Circuit kerbs. It came to par during qualifying on Saturday, as Verstappen lost most of his lap time in the middle and third sector.

The RB20 seems to have carried forward the gremlins of its predecessor – the RB19 – into the 2024 season. This year, however, the problems have been augmented because Red Bull’s rivals are much closer to them.

Is Max Verstappen’s poor run of form a temporary problem?

The Monaco GP weekend has been bitterly disappointing for Max Verstappen. Considering his own lofty standards, the Dutchman has been nowhere near the dominant pace he normally showcases. However, the RB20 suffers from very specific limitations and problems, and unfortunately for Verstappen, the characteristics of the Monaco circuit bring them out.

Verstappen isn’t pessimistic about the whole season ahead but admits that the car’s issues are circuit-specific. He added that there are some other venues that are bumpy and full of kerbs. He labeled them as a “limitation” for the Milton-Keynes-based outfit, and expects to struggle in those tracks.

Red Bull introduced upgrades to its car in Imola last weekend, but these fundamental issues remain unsolved. Hence, for Verstappen, the 2024 Monaco GP will be a very long race, unless a miracle works in his favor.

Over the years, F1’s stardom has brought multiple celebrities into the sport’s fan following, including Hollywood starlet Anne Hathaway. She is closely following F1 and while she could not attend the ongoing Monaco GP weekend personally, she made sure her special message for Charles Leclerc would get delivered.

Following the Monaco GP qualifying session ‘The Idea of You’ star Nicholas Galitzine presented the pole position award to hometown hero Leclerc. While handing over a replica Pirelli tire, Galitzine exchanged a few words with the Monegasque, and the conversation included a message from Anne Hathaway.

“She’s a huge huge fan of yours and she asked me to tell you that.”

Leclerc will be hoping for Hathaway’s special message to be lucky for him this weekend. The Monaco GP, a race he is desperate to win, has not been to kind to him in the past and in his previous five attempts, he failed to finish in the podium places even once.

Leclerc got the pole position in 2022 as well and was the favorite to win the Grand Prix. Unfortunately, a strategic blunder snatched the win away from the 26-year-old and handed it to Sergio Perez instead, whereas he finished P4.

This year, his main aim will be to avoid a repeat of the same. And drive a clean race that will help him finish first. Like millions of the Tifosi, Hathaway too will be hoping for the same.

Charles Leclerc isn’t the only driver to earn Hathaway’s praise

Hathaway may be a Leclerc fan, but her love for F1 isn’t limited to the Ferrari driver’s presence. At the 2023 Met Gala, she met not one, but two F1 drivers. Other than Lewis Hamilton, Daniel Ricciardo was also present at the event in New York.

Hathaway noticed an awkward Ricciardo standing nearby, and quickly went up to meet the honey badger. They posed for a few photos, and Hathaway told the 34-year-old that she was a huge Formula 1 fan.

Overwhelmed, Ricciardo could only thank Hathaway for her words. Several angles showed Ricciardo being rather uncomfortable in front of the cameras, especially in her presence. However, a meeting with Anne Hathaway made for a serious win for the Perth-born driver.

After their rampant and near-invincible run for two years, Red Bull is finally showing signs of weakness. They have already lost two of the seven races so far this campaign, and at the Monaco GP on Sunday, it could become three out of eight. Noting the closing gap between them and the rest of the grid, Max Verstappen points out how a flaw from 2022 could potentially jeopardize their ongoing campaign as well.

Red Bull’s current car, the RB20, struggles on the kerbs and bumps on the track, which Verstappen and Sergio Perez complained about throughout qualifying on Saturday. Quoted by Racing News 365, Verstappen draws comparisons between the RB18 and RB20. The former, their 2022 Championship-winning car, showed similar shortcomings at the time.

According to the Dutch driver, not solving the problem in hand two years ago has come back to bite them in the present. It is what is causing their dominance to falter.

“If the competition is getting closer and you don’t solve your weakness, you get this. It is a fundamental problem and a worst case scenario.”

Expectations were high from Red Bull after they lost just one race in 2023. They even started 2024 positively, dominating the opening two races. However, the Milton-Keynes-based team hasn’t been able to replicate what they did in the previous campaigns in the races thereafter.

Noting Ferrari’s performance in Monaco, Verstappen is wary of the tides turning in favor of the Maranello-based outfit for good.

Max Verstappen believes Ferrari might soon get the better of Red Bull

Max Verstappen claims that there is no immediate solution to Red Bull’s mechanical problems. Finishing on the podium in Monaco this weekend for Verstappen looks like a far shot, as he starts from P6 and overtaking is difficult in the circuit.

But what worries him more is Ferrari’s resurgence overall. He feels that Ferrari is “miles ahead” of Red Bull and not just in Monaco. Thus, all the 26-year-old cares about, for now, is to make the RB20 more drivable.

Meanwhile, Perez has entered a bigger slump. Verstappen’s teammate will start the Monaco GP from P16 on the grid, and scoring points will be an extremely difficult task for the Mexican driver. As for Ferrari, Perez is also of the opinion that the Italian team is strong, and out of Red Bull’s reach at the moment.

Wherever the Royals travelled, so did Arthur, with him known for having toured with the Royal Family on the Queen’s tour of Australia and New Zealand, and Price Harry’s gap-year trip to Africa.

And now the photographer, who is an expert on the monarchy, has spoken out about Harry and Meghan’s wedding day and what he really thought of it.

“I hated the day. The day was a miserable day,” Mr Edwards said while speaking on The Sun’s YouTube channel in an exclusive chat. He went on: “I can tell you now, it was the worst royal wedding I ever did.”

He noted how Harry was “determined” to keep the press away from his big day “as much as possible”. Mr Edwards spoke of the long lenses that were needed to capture snaps, and how when Harry and Meghan went by in their carriage, they turned away from him so he couldn’t get a good shot, leaving him describing the day as a “disaster”.

Mr Edwards then alluded to how he and the British press were made to feel unwelcome on the day of the royal wedding. He added: “In many ways, they were badly treated.”

Lewis Hamilton jokes he has a higher chance of learning Italian than getting on the podium with Mercedes… as soon-to-be Ferrari star enjoys a promising first practice in Monaco

Lewis Hamilton. Remember him? Well, he pushed his name towards the top of the timesheets in practice for the Monaco Grand Prix.

The seven-time world champion, who has endured an uncompetitive Mercedes the past three seasons, set the fastest lap in the opening session around the narrow streets, and the second best in the concluding warm-up.

A flicker of hope, then, for Hamilton ending the longest non-winning streak of his career, dating back to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix of 2021? Perhaps, but everyone was experimenting with different runs so we should regard the evidence with a degree of caution.

Still, Hamilton was buoyed enough to say: ‘It’s been a good day, probably the best we have had this year.’

He was also asked by an Italian reporter whether he felt it would be easier to learn Italian before moving to Ferrari or get on the podium in the remaining 17 races, Hamilton laughed.

It was Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who finished the action at the head of the field, 0.188sec in front, raising the prospect of Leclerc becoming only the second Monegasque to win his home race, and the first since the world championship was created in 1950. Louis Cheron, whose bust stands by the swimming pool, won here in a Bugatti in 1931.

Qualifying is viewed as crucial on the principality’s thin ribbon of tarmac, though only three pole men have gone on to win the race in the past eight years. Indeed, Leclerc has twice taken pole here without claiming a podium finish.

Max Verstappen, who has won five of seven races this season, was only fourth best, a place behind Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and more than half-a-second behind Leclerc.

The Dutch world champion complained of his Red Bull bouncing like a kangaroo and giving him a headache. He grazed the barriers at Portier.
