Mike Tyson’s return is slated to be one of the biggest in the boxing world.

Mike Tyson gives an update on his physical condition

Mike Tyson is 57 years old in the ring, and Jake is much younger, 27 years of age in the ring. Many criticized Paul’s decision to fight a much older man in the boxing ring. Tyson claimed he is willing to take on the much younger YouTuber boxer in the ring. The duo were involved in face-offs for their fight earlier today. Mike Tyson was asked how he has been leading up to his fight against Jake Paul. Tyson replied,

My body is shit right now, I’m really sore.

Tyson clarified that his training for his fight has physically taken a toll on him in the octagon. Ariel Helwani claimed that Mike may be playing possum, but Tyson revealed that he is having a tough time with the physical aspect of training. Jake Paul might be rejoicing on hearing this news, as his opponent is already struggling to put in the work. It will be interesting to see what happens soon between the two.

Mike Tyson will have to use one of his powerful boxing combinations to secure a victory over Paul. Paul might have a cardio advantage as he is used to fighting for longer durations and has much more active legs. It will be hard for Mike to match the activity of a much younger Jake inside the boxing ring when the duo fight in the ring.

Jake Paul had a scary flight home from New York after his press conference for the upcoming Mike Tyson fight.

The boxer and YouTuber’s private jet appeared to be struck by lightning on Sunday night while on its way to Puerto Rico. He and his crew are fortunate to have made it back safely.

A video shared on Paul’s Instagram, captioned “The way home from the presser was interesting,” shows the moment the aircraft was struck. Paul, who joked he had angered the Gods, mock-prayed to Zeus after the plane was hit.

It doesn’t appear that anyone was actually afraid, but, of course, things could have gone south really quickly.

And when asked who was more at risk out of Paul and Tyson given the new rules, Warren echoed these thoughts in a chat with Jim White and Simon Jordan on talkSPORT.

“If Mike Tyson clips him in the first or second round, then you’d think Jake Paul [would be more at risk],” Warren said.

“But at the end of the day, you have to think that the 58-year-old guy is at risk.

“If that comes across a commission’s desk and they have rubber stamped that, I mean come on.

“What hearing did they have when they were all sat around that table?

“Remember these American commissions are state commissions appointed by the state, so the state and government have a say in that.”

Paul has suggested he is well within his rights to face Tyson, and even stated he was ‘nervous’ to step in the ring with the power-punching veteran.

He said: “Yeah. It’s motivating, I think it is good to carry fear into the ring and with you on a daily basis when you’re training because it makes you better.

“But Mike, looking good on the mitts is not even half the battle. You have to face me in the ring.

“I think he’s seeing these videos of how good he looks on the mitts and he’s getting turned up and his confidence is probably growing.”

Tyson will have just celebrated his 58th birthday by the time he climbs into the ring while Paul is in his physical prime at 27.

According to ESPN, the staggering 31-year age gap is the biggest in pro boxing history, surpassing the 24-year discrepancy between 49-year-old Archie Moore and 25-year-old Mike DiBiase when they met on March 15, 1963, in ‘The Old Mongoose’s’ swansong fight.

Moore, who holds the distinction of being the longest-reigning light-heavyweight world champion of all time, overcame the cards stacked against him to stop DiBiase in the third round.

Tyson will be hoping he can do the same when he dukes it out with Paul in two and half months’ time.

Their controversial bout, which has been met with widespread outrage from members of the boxing fraternity, looked as though it would be staged as an exhibition at first.

However, on Monday, Paul’s promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, confirmed that his fight with Tyson will be sanctioned as a professional fight under the auspices of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR).

“Mike Tyson and Jake Paul signed on to fight each other with the desire to do so in a sanctioned professional fight that would have a definitive outcome,” said MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian.

“Over the past six weeks MVP has worked with its partners to satisfy the requirements of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) to sanction Paul vs Tyson and we are grateful that we have gotten to this point.”

The heavyweight showdown will be contested over eight, two-minute rounds with each fighter using 14-ounce gloves, but no headgear.

Knockouts are allowed and the result will go on both of their professional records.

Tyson has not competed as a professional since June 2005 when he retired on his stool at the end of the sixth round against regional-level pro Kevin McBride.

Meanwhile, Paul is an active boxer with 10 pro bouts (9-1) to his name over the last four years.

The TDLR said it has conducted a review of Paul and Tyson, evaluating both men’s records as well as their medical history before approving the pro-fight.

“The safety of the contestants competing in the ring or the octagon is always the primary concern,” the TDLR said. “This competition is no different.”

  • Anthony Joshua’s forecast regarding the outcome of the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul bout.

Anthony Joshua’s forecast regarding the outcome of the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul bout.

Anthony Joshua has gained media attention by endorsing the YouTuber before of the much awaited fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. This fight, which is slated for July 20 and will be aired live on Netflix, has drawn a lot of interest even though it was first classified as an exhibition.

Speculation regarding the result has only increased since Tyson made it clear that a fight will take place. According to reports, both boxers might decide to use 16-ounce gloves rather than the customary ten-ounce ones, presumably to lessen the force of their blows. There are also rumors that the fight will take place in two-minute rounds.

“This is called an exhibition, but if you look up exhibition, you won’t see any of the laws we’re fighting under,” Tyson noted.

“This is a fight. I don’t think he’s faster than me. I’ve seen a YouTube video of him at [age] 16 doing weird dancing. That’s not the guy I’m fighting.

“This is a guy who’s really going to try and hurt me, which I’m accustomed to, and he’s going to be greatly mistaken. Right now, I’m scared to death. As the fight gets closer, the less nervous I become because it’s reality, and in reality I’m invincible.”

    Joshua’s remarks

The age disparity between the two men, with Tyson at 58 and Paul considerably younger, raised concerns among commissions, leading to the match not being sanctioned as a professional fight. Nonetheless, with the event given the green light, Joshua has voiced his belief that Paul holds the edge over Tyson.

“I personally think it’s really good,” Joshua said.

“I think the boxing hardcore don’t like it because they think, ‘Why are they disrespecting our sport? [And] I think that person brings all these people into boxing, which benefits everyone else. Everyone viewing helps. He’s [Mike Tyson] older now. I pray that he comes out healthy. I think Jake Paul because of youth – that’s the only thing.”

Jake Paul’s MMA debut set for indefinite delay as he prioritises boxing ahead of Mike Tyson fight

Jake Paul’s first appearance in the PFL is unlikely to take place this year.

The YouTube star signed a deal with MMA promotion PFL, but has yet to make his debut despite beginning his training in the sport, with footage emerging of him already practising leg kicks.

Paul announced he would make his MMA debut with PFLCredit: PFL

Paul has since continued his boxing career, and will next take on heavyweight legend Mike Tyson on July 20.

And when giving an update on the Problem Child’s maiden cage appearance, PFL chief Donn Davis insisted it will be delayed until further notice.

He said during a media scrum: “The good news is, if people didn’t think Jake was serious about combat, he’s proven to be serious.

“He’s certainly got better. He’s doubled down on boxing at the minute, there’s no question about it.

“There was a time when he might have done 50/50 of both and right now it looks like he might be 90/10 in favour of boxing over MMA.

“So his development in MMA is not coming along as quickly as we thought. Will he fight for the PFL? One hundred per cent.

“Will he move to MMA? One hundred per cent. Is the timing delayed? It is.”

Paul’s debut was expected to take place this year, but he has made it clear that he is prioritising his lucrative boxing exploits.

He verbally offered an MMA rematch deal to former boxing opponent Nate Diaz, who he outpointed in August 2023, but any contest has yet to materialise.

The 26-year-old first defeated boxer Andre August in December 2023, before stopping Ryan Bourland in March 2024, all since inking his deal with PFL.

A huge event with heavyweight icon Tyson is understandably the focus, but it has not been without criticism.

Despite a 31-year age gap between the pair, Paul believes he was well within his rights to accept the fight and that it was an opportunity too good to turn down.

Tyson hasn’t fought professionally since retiring from boxing in 2005, and will be 58 when he laces up his gloves again this summer.

He did, though, fight in an eight-round exhibition against Roy Jones Jr in November 2020, which was called a draw.

And even if Tyson hasn’t fought professionally for so long, Paul believes he should still fearful of the veteran’s power, with fans also pointing out his raw speed in recent training footage.

Former heavyweight champion Iron Mike will make his return to the ring to face YouTuber Paul in an epic bout taking place on July 20.

Tyson, one of the most legendary figures in the history of boxing, will turn 58 two weeks before the fight takes place against the 27-year-old.

Fans were left worried recently when footage of the veteran training for the exhibition clash went viral.

However, this week he returned to Brownsville, Brooklyn alongside Briggs to the neighbourhood he moved to aged 10 and spent several years of his childhood at.

A clip of them back at their former stamping ground was then shared on social media, and it showed the boxing pals with their shirts off surrounded by locals cheering on as they jokingly spared.

The pair exchanged in a short slap match as the crowd chanted before Briggs tried to lift Tyson’s leg and drop him to the pavement before the two burst out laughing and called a truce.

Sharing a clip of the scrap, Tyson wrote: ““Brownsville’s finest always ready for a brawl. Love this guy.”

And supporters of the former Baddest Man on the Planet seemed to be much more impressed after seeing this footage.

One response read: “@MikeTyson will be 58 years old June 30. He’s still the best to ever step in the Ring. @jakepaul god be with you.”

“Damn Champ you still got it,” said another as a fellow dan said that he looked “ripped” and “incredible”.

Tyson was told that he was “looking fierce” by another.

While a fifth added: “You are always the Champ!!!!!!!”

Tyson most recently fought in 2020 in an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr.

His last professional fight was in 2005, when he retired aged 39.

The Problem Child produced a brutal first round knock out of Ryan Bourland in his last match earlier this year.

Paul has won his last three bouts since his defeat to Tommy Fury in February 2023 but will now face one of the greatest boxers of all time.
