Meghan Markle has been bestowed a new title after opening up about learning about her Nigerian roots during her second day in the country.

The Duchess of Sussex joined World Trade Organisation chief Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to address a crowd of young women and girls in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

During the meeting, Meghan described her discovery as “humbling” and said she had become increasingly appreciative of her heritage, calling Nigeria “my country.”

She said: “Never in a million years would I understand it as much as I do now. And what has been echoed so much in the past day is, ’Oh, we are not so surprised when we found out you are Nigerian.

“It is a compliment to you because what they define as a Nigerian woman is brave, resilient, courageous, beautiful.”

The Duchess confirmed in her Spotify podcast Archetype that she had learned she is “43 percent Nigerian” after taking a genealogy test, and immediately shared the news with mum Doria Ragland.

She added: “Being African American, part of it is really not knowing so much about your lineage and background … and it was exciting for both of us.”

Her excitement about her background prompted Mo Abudu, the panel’s moderator and chief executive of EbonyLife media group, to ask attendees to pick a Nigerian name for the Duchess.

Members of the crowd proposed “Ifeoma,” a name used by the Igbo tribe meaning “a treasured thing.” Other attendees suggested “Omowale”, meaning “the child has come home.”

Meghan highlighted the importance of mentoring young girls during the panel

The Duchess took to the stage to highlight the importance of mentoring young girls and to discuss the challenges women in Nigeria face in securing top leadership roles.

Meghan noted an important aspect of mentoring young girls is “returning home,” to your community to maintain links between one generation and the next.

She said: “You need to come back home, you need to, at least, be a familiar face for the next generation to say, ‘Oh she looks like me and I can be that’.”

Meghan Markle arrives one hour late to talk as she makes bizarre two-word Nigeria comment
Meghan Markle left Prince Harry behind to co-host a Woman in Leadership event in Nigeria’s capital Abuja.

Meghan Markle issued a strong statement to demonstrate her feelings towards Nigeria as she described it at a panel talk as “my country” in a bizarre two-word comment.

Despite turning up an hour late, the Duchess of Sussex went down a storm as she co-hosted a Woman in Leadership event alongside Dr.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the first woman and the first African to become director-general of the World Trade Organization.

The statement could be seen as odd, as despite Meghan recently learning of her 43 percent Nigerian heritage, she has lived in the USA most of her life, with only a brief stint in the UK – so fans might expect her to refer to America as “my country”, rather than Nigeria.

Speaking at the event in Abuja on Saturday night, Meghan said: “I want to start by saying thank you very much for just how gracious you’ve all been in welcoming my husband and I to this country… my country.

“I am just flattered and honoured and inspired. It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived. And I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more colour, so I can fit in with all of you and your incredible fashion.”

She and Prince Harry are spending three days in Nigeria for a “private visit”, although many have compared the trip to a classic royal tour.

Meghan Markle described Nigeria as “my country”

In an episode of her podcast Archetypes Meghan explained how she discovered she was 43 percent of Nigerian heritage after taking a genealogy test.

After making the discovery she rang her mother Doria Ragland “because I wanted to know if she had any awareness of it”, adding that the news was “exciting for both of us”.

The mother of two explained that it was important for them because being African-American “is really not knowing so much about your lineage or background, where you come from specifically.

The Duchess revealed her Nigerian heritage

“It’s been really eye-opening and humbling to be able to know more about my heritage and to be able to know this is just the beginning of that discovery.”

Meghan also opened up about being a mother, a rare admission for the couple as Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, who will be three next month, are kept in relative privacy.

She told the audience that she “loved being a mum” and her children are “very chatty”, with the repsonsibilities of motherhood meaning she has had to learn how to have balance in her life.

Harry and Meghan are continuing their tour until Monday

The Duchess said: “What I think that to mean now is that that balance will always change for you.”That balance, what seems balanced ten years ago is going to shift.”

On Friday she also told a charming anecdote about Lilibet while visiting the Wuse Lightway Academy: “Our daughter, Lili, she’s much, much tinier than you guys. She’s about to turn three.

“And a few weeks ago she looked at me and she would just see the reflection in my eyes. And she [goes], ‘Mama, I see me in you’, Oh, now she was talking really literally. But I hung onto those words in a very different way.

“And I thought, yes, I do see me in you, and you see me in you.”

Eddie Hearn Affirms Anthony Joshua Will Face Tyson Fury ‘THIS YEAR’… Accuses the Gypsy King of Being Motivated Solely by Money.

Anthony Joshua is expected to face Tyson Fury later this year, according to Eddie Hearne, but the Gypsy King has to defeat Oleksandr Usyk first.

For nearly the whole of their individual careers, fans have been talking about a Battle of Britain battle between the two heavyweight legends, and it now seems like it could happen.

The heavyweight division appears to be headed toward unification with Joshua’s fight against Usyk, but Joshua must first get past fights against Dillon Whyte and Deontay Wilder, as Hearn confirmed the 34-year-old’s next immediate opponents.

Joshua, who is backed by Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, is awaiting the announcement of his next opponent after defeating Francis Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight champion.

During a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Hearn answered a question on darts prodigy Luke Littler and disclosed the likelihood of Joshua facing Fury in the ring later this year.

According to Eddie Hearne, Anthony Joshua will face Tyson Fury later this year.

Hearn claimed that negotiations between the two camps are complicated at times and Fury ‘only cares about the money’

‘Because the darts Championship happens in December and January, I’m gonna say that Fury vs AJ happens this year,’ he said.

‘So I’m gonna say Fury vs AJ [happens first].’

There have been many setbacks in the protracted dispute about whether and when the two would ultimately square off, and there are still many more to come as both parties try to reach an agreement.

Although Fury and Joshua had previously agreed to a fight, it was ultimately canceled when negotiations fell down, and Fury went on to face Deontay Wilder in a trilogy bout.

In the meanwhile, Usyk stunned the field by defeating Joshua twice to win the British champion titles.

Joshua is scheduled to take on Dillon Whyte after eliminating former UFC star Francis Ngannou in his most recent bout.

Fury is set to fight Oleksanr Usy in a heavyweight unification bout later this year

‘Everybody wants to see this fight and on August 12, Anthony Joshua will fight Dillion Whyte, after that he will fight Deontay Wilder in Saudi Arabia and then after that it has to be Tyson Fury’ said Hearn.

Tyson Fury turned down the Usyk fight, the mort important fight in boxing, the undisputed heavyweight worl d championship to fight an MMA fighter who has never had a fight before in his life.

‘We have to be honest, Fury cares about one thing only, the money.’

The 44-year-old later explained that Fury must beat both Usyk and Joshua to be a true boxing great, adding: ‘He has to beat Usyk and he has to beat Anthony Joshua, particularly Usyk.’

  • Boxing analyst Johnny Nelson has claimed that he had information indicating Tyson Fury’s prep for the showdown was not going as planned.

Boxing analyst Johnny Nelson has claimed that he had information indicating Tyson Fury’s prep for the showdown was not going as planned.

Boxing analyst Johnny Nelson has claimed that his insight into Tyson Fury‘s preparations for his heavyweight undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk came from within the Gypsy King’s family.

The former cruiserweight world champion grabbed headlines when he suggested he had information indicating Fury’s prep for the showdown was not going as planned.

This was followed by the postponement of the bout after the Brit suffered a nasty cut above the eye during sparring.

But Nelson has dismissed theories that he had a secret source within the Fury camp and instead insisted that his opinions came from the information that was publicly disclosed by the boxer’s father John and brother Shane.

‘Do you want to know who the mole is? His dad and his brother – they are the mole,’ Nelson told talkSPORT’s talkBOXING. ‘Because listen, I said nothing his dad hasn’t said.

Boxing analyst Johnny Nelson has addressed speculation over whether he had a secret source within the Fury camp

Nelson claimed that his insight came from the public declarations of Tyson’s father John (pictured) and brother Shane

Tyson Fury has been hard at work gearing up for his clash and recently revealed his incredible body transformation

‘I’ve said nothing his brother hasn’t said, okay I might have sprinkled a bit of seasoning on it, but what I’m saying is it’s on record – his dad was saying the camp’s this, that and the other.

‘It’s on record his brother’s said there’s too many back-slappers there.’

Nelson had told the outlet in February that he had two reliable sources tell him that the heavyweight was having a ‘rough time.’

Fury and Usyk will finally meet in the ring on May 18 as part of Riyadh Season in Saudi Arabia to crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the four-belt era.

Nelson continued: ‘Tyson’s not an idiot, but Tyson is the head of the snake – so they’ve all got to behave themselves because they want to stay on that payroll.

‘So they’re going to tell him what they think [he wants to hear] to ingratiate themselves around him.

‘His brother and his dad – they’re his [real] people and they don’t like these people that are around, and they’re not happy.

Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will finally meet in the ring on May 18 as part of Riyadh Season in Saudi Arabia

‘But them people that are around are thinking, ‘”I’m getting paid good, so I’m going to tell you what you want.”

‘I don’t dislike Tyson Fury, I just call out his BS, I don’t dislike him.

He added: ‘Listen to your dad, listen to your brother – they are the ones speaking the truth, they’re the moles.’

  • Frank Warren has insisted Tyson Fury would be wise to target what he perceives to be Oleksandr Usyk’s greatest weakness when the pair meet inside the ring on May 18 here.

Frank Warren has insisted Tyson Fury would be wise to target what he perceives to be Oleksandr Usyk’s greatest weakness when the pair meet inside the ring on May 18 here.

Frank Warren has insisted Tyson Fury would be wise to target what he perceives to be Oleksandr Usyk‘s greatest weakness when the pair meet inside the ring.

For the first time since Lennox Lewis more than two decades ago, an undisputed king of the heavyweight division could be crowned in Riyadh next month.

Usyk and Fury had originally been scheduled to face off in February before the Gypsy King sustained a serious cut in sparring leading to the bout being moved to May 18.

As part of the deal to reschedule the fight, Turki Alalshikh revealed that both fighters had agreed to forfeit $10m (£8m) if they were forced to pull out.

Speaking ahead of the highly-anticipated showdown, Warren insisted he has identified a weakness in the former undisputed cruiserweight champion’s game which he believes Fury will use it to his advantage on fight night.

Frank Warren insisted Tyson Fury will expose Oleksandr Usyk’s main weakness in their clash next month

The showdown in Saudi Arabia is set to crown the heavyweight division’s first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis

The Ukrainian is undefeated in his 21-fight professional career with 14 wins via knockout

‘One thing about Tyson, if he senses a crack or sees any weakness, he’s the biggest exploiter of it and that’s why it’s going to be such an exciting fight.’ Warren told Sky Sports.

‘On the other hand, Usyk might feel from the [Francis] Ngannou fight there are some things that he can exploit and I’m sure he will. He’s a competitor.

‘He’s a competitor from amateur days right up until the present day. He’s done everything that’s been asked of him.

‘His Achilles’ heel, as I’ve said, and I’m surprised the so-called experts never picked up on it, has always been his body.

‘Daniel Dubois, that’s what he was trained for, to go and exploit that and he nearly pulled it off.’

Back in August, Usyk put his heavyweight titles on the line against British prospect Dubois in front of a partisan crowd in Wroclaw, Poland.

For much of the contest, the Ukrainian utilised his superb technical acumen to build up a sizeable lead on the judges’ scorecards before scoring a KO finish in the ninth round.

However, the win was marred in controversy after Dubois sent the 37-year-old crashing to the canvas in the fifth with a shot that was contentiously ruled by the referee to have been a low blow.

Warren claimed Usyk has struggled with body shots in the past, a tendency he believes Fury will exploit

The Ukrainian was dropped by a shot that was controversially ruled low in his win over Daniel Dubois in August

Warren added that Usyk will also likely target Fury’s weakness by looking to reopen the cut above his right eye that caused the fight to be delayed in the first place.

‘Well, I would. Of course he will [try to exploit the cut].’ Warren continued.

‘He had a worse cut against [Otto] Wallin. Tyson had a dreadful cut in that fight and won the fight convincingly with a bad cut, a real bad cut.

‘He’s got plan A, plan B and a plan C and more importantly, he’s got a big heart.’

  • Exciting Undercard Confirmed for Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk: Saudi Arabia to Host Multiple Heavyweight Bouts and Title Fights.

Exciting Undercard Confirmed for Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk: Saudi Arabia to Host Multiple Heavyweight Bouts and Title Fights.

Official confirmation has been made about the undercard of Tyson Fury’s undisputed title fight vs Oleksandr Usyk on May 18.

As part of Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Season, Fury and Usyk will finally square off in the ring to determine who will become the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the four-belt era.

After Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in March 1999, the division will once again be united by the winner of the eagerly awaited fight.

It is expected that Fury and Usyk won’t be the only heavyweights on the event given that His Excellency Turki Alalshikh enjoys big punchers.

Frank Sanchez and Agit Kabayel, two heavyweight contenders, have been added to the undercard of the fight scheduled for May 18 at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia.

The confirmed undercard for Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury’s undisputed title bout has been revealed.

Agit Kabayel and Frank Sanchez, two heavyweight contenders, have been added to the undercard of the fight scheduled for May 18 at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia.

On May 18, Jai Opetaia (right), who stunned Ellis Zorro with a knockout on the Day of Reckoning show in Saudi Arabia last December, will take on Mairis Briedis.

After unexpectedly defeating undefeated heavyweight contender Arslanbek Makhmudov via fourth-round knockout on the “Day of Reckoning” show in December of last year, Kabayel (24-0, 16 KOs) will be feeling confident going into the bout.

Boxing aficionados believed that Makhmudov would easily defeat Kabayel. But the heavyweight, who was born in Germany, dropped Makhmudov three times after focusing on his physique.

Sanchez (24-0, 17 KOs) enters the fight fresh off a seventh-round knockout victory over Junior Fa in December of last year. Although Fa had lost two of his previous three fights, Sanchez gave a strong showing.

On May 18, Jai Opetaia, who stunned Ellis Zorro with a knockout on the Day of Reckoning show in Saudi Arabia last December, will square off against Mairis Briedis.

In July 2022, Opetaia defeated Briedis over twelve rounds, demonstrating his superiority over the three-time cruiserweight champion. However, he needs to repeat the performance if he hopes to win the title again.

The 28-year-old Australian says he is excited to reclaim the title after losing to Zorro in December, when he was stripped of it.

In the meanwhile, Ireland’s Anthony Cacace will challenge Joe Cordina for the IBF super-featherweight title in a homecoming match.

The 32-year-old Welshman had previously defeated Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov to retain his title, and he faced Edward Vazquez in a title defense at the Casino de Monte Carlo Salle Medecin.

Joe Cordina (right) will face Anthony Cacace of Ireland in a homecoming fight to defend his IBF super-featherweight title.

Moses Itauma, who had a brawl with the Gypsy King, will also be seen on the undercard.

Eddie Hearn claims that Cordina, who trains with Conor Benn under Tony Sims’s supervision, is the “greatest 130-pound fighter on the globe” and that she will support him to win.

Mark Chamberlain, who previously fought Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou on the undercard of their heavyweight bout in Riyadh, will make a return trip to Saudi Arabia to take on Joshua Oluwaseun.

Following his performance at York Hall, His Excellency personally selected Chamberlain, one of Alalshikh’s favorite boxers, to face Gavin Gwynne on the Knockout Chaos event.

Moses Itauma, who recently sparred with the Gypsy King, will also be seen on the undercard of Fury vs. Usyk. The 19-year-old sensation will take against Ilja Mazencev. She has promised to shatter Mike Tyson’s record and become the youngest world champion in history.

Isaac Lowe of England will fight Hasibullah Ahmadi at featherweight, while New Zealand Olympian David Nyika will compete against Michael Seitz at cruiserweight.

In the cruiserweight division, undefeated Robin Sirwan Safar will square up against former long-standing light heavyweight world champion Sergey Kovalev.

Anthony Joshua‘s next fight – and its venue – may have been leaked by Derek Chisora.

Joshua is riding the crest of a wave after stunning Francis Ngannou in the pair’s heavyweight clash earlier this year, knocking out the former MMA star in the second round of their highly-anticipated clash.

The Brit threw himself back into the conversation for a world title fight next up, and had seemingly been set to face the winner of Tyson Fury’s bout with Oleksandr Usyk.

That fight will take place on May 18, leaving Joshua seemingly waiting to find out his next opponent and seal a deal to fight in one of the biggest boxing bouts of all time in an undisputed fight.

Speaking to iFL TV, however, Chisora claimed to know the details of AJ’s next bout, and said that it won’t be against Fury or Usyk.

Anthony Joshua’s next fight has potentially been leaked following his win over Francis Ngannou

Joshua had been set to face the winner of Tyson Fury’s undisputed fight against Oleksandr Usyk

Derek Chisora, however, has suggested that his fellow Brit will instead take on the winner of a different fight

‘He [Joshua] will fight the winner of Daniel Dubois and [Filip] Hrgovic in Wembley,’ Chisora said.

Dubois and the undefeated Fans have been preparing themselves for an undisputed fight, with either an all-British clash or Joshua vs Usyk three on the agenda in Saudi Arabia.

Fury previously told Mail Sport that he was planning to face the winner of the bout, but was reluctant to make promises while in Saudi Arabia for Joshua’s clash with Ngannou.

‘Whoever wins it’s big for me,’ he said earlier this year. ‘If AJ wins, it’s a good opportunity for a big British showdown again, and if Ngannou wins, and it’s a good opportunity for a rematch for me.

‘So it’s, it’s a win win for me. Yeah, make no mistake that the winner of this, I will potentially give them a world title shot later on in this year or next’.

Fans have waited to see who would be crowned undisputed champion in Usyk’s bout with Fury, which many had claimed would see the best heavyweight crowned once and for all.

Daniel Dubois (L) will take on Filip Hrgovic (R) later on this year and the winner could face Joshua

Joshua is looking to stake his claim as the best heavyweight it the world after beating Ngannou

Joshua has improved since back-to-back defeats to Usyk, however, and Eddie Hearn was among those to claimed that Joshua is again the best in the world.

‘If we won this fight then he would fight the winner of Fury vs Usyk,’ Hearn said in the aftermath of Joshua’s win over Ngannou. ‘You’re looking at the number one heavyweight in the world.

‘Tyson Fury please beat Usyk because you will get the biggest fight in the history of the sport. As a fighter, he’s an inspiration to young people.’

Hearn disclosed the potential date of Joshua’s battle with Fury for the world championship.

Derek Chisora, Anthony Joshua’s former foe, has revealed who his next opponent would be.

The four-time world champion has bounced back to form, his most recent victory an impressive knockout of Francis Ngannou.

Right, Derek Chisora disclosed the identity of Anthony Joshua’s upcoming opponent.

Joshua had previously been contemplating Filip Hrgovic as a rival.

Daniel Dubois could jump to the front of the queue if he beats Hrgovic in June.

He has been tipped to fight the winner of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk – having lost to the Ukrainian twice previously.

But with that fight not scheduled to take place until May 18, Joshua could fight a different opponent in the mean time.

And according to fellow heavyweight Chisora, a fighter has already been lined up.

Chisora told iFL TV: “He (Joshua) will fight the winner of Daniel Dubois and (Filip) Hrgovic at Wembley.”

That pair are set to clash on June 1, with the IBF likely set to order the winner to face Joshua in a world title fight as the belt will likely be vacant by then.

Brit Dubois previously challenged for IBF world title when he fought Usyk, who also holds WBA (Super), WBO, and IBO belts.

Joshua, 34, has been heavily tipped to face Hrgovic, who is unbeaten in 17 professional bouts.

Hearn revealed he considered Hrgovic as an option before agreeing a deal to fight Ngannou.

And Joshua’s promoter remains hopeful of setting up a duel with Fury before the end of the year.

He said: “Because the Darts Championship happens in December and January, I’m gonna say that Fury vs AJ happens this year.

“So I’m gonna say Fury vs AJ [happens first].”

After their scrap in Riyadh, the two are required by contract to rematch, most likely at the end of the year.

But Joshua may step in and take on Fury if Saudi boxing kingpin Turki Alalshikh wants to see the fight happen next, according to Fury’s co-promoter Bob Arum.

He told The Daily Mail: “What happens if Fury-Usyk turns out to be a classic?

“A fight that is so exciting and so thrilling that the public wants to see it again.

“Then that would certainly trump a Joshua fight, and contractually, it’s a fight that has to happen.

“Now, what happens if it’s a one-sided fight and Fury wins the fight?

“Then maybe everybody can sit down with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh and work out some arrangement go right to Fury-Joshua.

“If Usyk wins the fight, I don’t think there would be that much demand for an Usyk-Joshua fight because after all they fought twice and Usyk beat him twice.

“So, one fight at a time, that’s my motto.”

Arum’s belief that AJ could finally share the ring with Fury is also held by fellow promoter Eddie Hearn.

In a bizarre question involving darts star Luke Littler, Matchroom Boxing chief Hearn revealed to talkTV’s Piers Morgan his belief that the biggest fight in the sport will materialise before the end of 2024.

He said: “Because the Darts Championship happens in December and January, I’m gonna say that Fury vs AJ happens this year.

“So I’m gonna say Fury vs AJ [happens first].”

Fury and Joshua inked a lucrative two-fight deal in the summer of 2020 but haven’t come close to fighting one another.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder scuppered their two-fight series by winning his arbitration for a trilogy fight with The Gypsy King.

Joshua, 34, is back in world title contention following a stellar 2023, in which he rattled off three impressive wins on the bounce.

And he picked up his third KO win in a row last month when he brutally stopped former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in the second round of their Saudi showdown.

Anthony Joshua is riding an impressive four-fight win streak.
