Prince Harry asked for ‘secret meeting’ with King Charles and William over ‘the state of things’

Prince Harry said he arranged a ‘secret meeting’ with Prince William and King Charles in April 2021, one month after he and Meghan Markle were interviewed by Oprah Winfrey

Prince Harry said he asked for a “secret meeting” with his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William, to discuss “the state of things” when he travelled to the UK to attend Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021.

The Duke of Sussex wrote in his memoir, ‘Spare’, that when he flew back to London to attend his grandfather’s funeral, he also thought it could be a good time to meet his father and brother for a chat. It was the first time Harry travelled England since he and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals and moved to the US, where they now live with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

It was also the first time Harry met his family since he and the Duchess of Sussex took part in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, during which they shared details of their struggles within the Royal Family and opened up on the reasons that brought them to step away and move to another country. In his book, which was published in January 2023, Harry admitted he felt anxious, while waiting for William and Charles to arrive at their meeting – and at some point, he thought they had changed their mind and would no longer meet him.

However, he said that at some point he saw his father and brother with a “grim, almost menacing” look as they headed towards him. The Duke recalled that when he gave them “a weak smile”, they did not smile back, which made him feel “a hugely intense vulnerability” and made him think of his late mum, Princess Diana, with the hope she could give him strength during the meeting.

Harry revealed that when he said hello to his brother “Willy” and his father, whom he affectionately called “Pa”, they replied with a single and “painfully tepid” word: “Harold.” Harry wrote: “At last, I saw them. Shoulder to shoulder, striding towards me, they looked grim, almost menacing. More, they looked tightly aligned. My stomach dropped. Normally they’d be squabbling about one thing or another, but now they appeared to be in lockstep – in league. The thought occurred: Hang on, are we meeting for a walk…or a duel?

Apart from fear, I was feeling a kind of hyper-awareness, and a hugely intense vulnerability, which I’d experienced at other key moments of my life. Walking behind my mother’s coffin. In the book, Harry also revealed that he got the nickname “Spare” by his father, Charles. Harry revealed that after Princess Diana gave birth to him, his dad said: “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare – my work is done.”

The Guardian newspaper noted that Prince Harry has always felt resentful of his nickname, and aired his frustration in his memoir. The newspaper said: “Harry’s resentment of being the ‘spare’ is the underlying theme of his book, through chapters on his childhood, his schooling, his career as a royal and in the British Army, his relationship with his parents and brother, and his life with Meghan through courtship, wedding and marriage, to their own experience of parenthood. ”

Royal Family Rallies Around Prince William, Signaling Special Event for Kate Middleton?

Social media is abuzz with “special signals” hinting at an upcoming momentous occasion. Many speculate that this will be Kate Middleton’s moment to shine in a new role, with her husband and the royal family’s full support.

Lately, several close royal family members have made appearances, showing their support for Prince William. Most notably, Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, attended a prestigious event alongside William. This is considered a rare occurrence, signifying the Queen’s special attention and trust in her youngest son.

Next, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla appeared at an awards ceremony. The couple praised William, emphasizing his crucial role in the monarchy’s future.

Princess Eugenie, William’s cousin, also posted a heartwarming picture with her brother on her social media page, along with a meaningful birthday message.

These gestures have led many to believe that William will be taking on a more prominent position within the monarchy, possibly as the heir apparent. However, others suggest that this is the royal family’s way of supporting Kate Middleton for an upcoming special project or event.

Kate Middleton is known for her poised, elegant demeanor and her ability to blend seamlessly into the royal family. She is also actively involved in charitable and social endeavors, earning the public’s admiration.

Many believe that Kate will play a pivotal role in modernizing the monarchy and bringing its image closer to the public. Therefore, the royal family’s support for William could be a stepping stone for Kate to shine and establish her position in the future.

Currently, official details about this special event remain undisclosed. Nevertheless, the positive “signals” from the British Royal Family have fans eagerly anticipating.

This could very well be Kate Middleton’s moment to make her mark in a new role, contributing to the monarchy’s image in the public eye.

Prince Harry ‘in his element without royal restrictions’ as he ignores King Charles snub

Before jetting off to Nigeria with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry spent the afternoon with 50 bereaved military children at a special event organised by Scotty’s Little Soldiers

Prince Harry looked “totally relaxed” and “without royal restrictions” as he paid a special visit to children whose parents have died.

The Duke of Sussex was pictured chatting and playing games with 50 bereaved military children and young people, aged between six and 22, as part of an event organised by Scotty’s Little Soldiers. He also spoke to nine members from Scotty’s Council, a group of young people who represent the charity.

Body language expert Judi James told The Mirror Harry looked “enthusiastic” during the visit as he wasn’t restricted by royal protocols. She said: “Harry has always been one of the royals who can look totally relaxed and playful with young children he’s visiting and he looks in his element here.

“Without royal restrictions in terms of formality and perhaps because he is still very much in touch with his own inner child, he seems able to use mirroring, leading and then empathy to generate enthusiasm and fun behaviour in them.

“His eye-engagement is skilful as he raises his brows, widens his eyes and grins to prompt them to enjoy the fun. Getting down to their height, his expressions make him look more like a child himself as he joins in with all the activities.”

Judi said it wasn’t just the young people who seemed to enjoy the visit. She explained: “The pleasure seems to be very much two-way here. Not only is Harry encouraging the young people to enjoy themselves, he looks buoyed up and genuinely delighted by the interaction here too.”

During the visit, Harry didn’t acknowledge his father’s decision not to meet with him while he was in London. King Charles is believed to have been too busy to see his estranged son.

A spokesperson for Harry released a statement to confirm the Duke of Sussex would not be meeting with his father during his UK trip. They said: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme. The duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

After visiting Scotty’s Little Soldiers, Harry flew to Nigeria with Meghan Markle. Here, he gave a passionate speech as he spoke about mental health struggles.

The couple are in Nigeria to visit the country’s military headquarters and promote the Invictus Games. They arrived in Abuja on Friday morning and will spend 72 hours in the African country.

Meghan Markle had a proud wife moment during her trip to Nigeria with Prince Harry as she sweetly praised the Duke of Sussex for his passionate speech on mental health awareness

Meghan Markle was reminded why she fell in love with Prince Harry as she sweetly praised her “inspiring” husband for the moving speech he gave about mental health in Nigeria.

This week, both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave heartwarming welcome addresses at the inaugural mental health summit put on by the GEANCO Foundation at the Lightway Academy in Abuja during the first stop of their Nigeria tour. This marks the first stop on the couple’s trip following Prince Harry’s solo journey to the UK, during which his father King Charles refused to meet with him. Despite the recent snub, Prince Harry moved forward with giving a passionate speech urging the importance of mental health awareness.

After the touching speech, Meghan was beaming and filled with admiration for her husband as she said to the crowd: “You see why I’m married to him?” And lovingly added: “He’s so smart. And so inspiring because he speaks the truth.”

Prince Harry delivered an inspiring speech about mental health in Nigeria
In Meghan’s speech she gushed over how honoured she was to visit the country of Nigeria and spoke about mental health awareness and the importance of expressing your emotions from a young age. The mother of two said: “As I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well. So it is a complete honour to have our first visit to Nigeria, be here with all of you.”

She continued: “We believe in all of you, we believe in your futures, we believe in your ability to continue telling your stories and to just be honest with each other. There is no need to suffer in silence. Just make sure that you’re taking care of yourselves.”

In Prince Harry’s earlier speech he also spoke on mental health as he told the crowd of young students: “In some places around the world, more than you would believe, there is a stigma against mental health. Too many people don’t want to talk about it because it’s invisible, it’s in your mind and we can’t see it.”

He continued that mental health is “still something we are relatively unsure of” and added: “But guess what, every single person in this room, the youngest, the oldest, every single person has mental health. So therefore, you have to look after yourself in order to be able to help other people, other people have to look after themselves in order to be able to look after you. That’s the way it works.”

The father of two went on to urge that it is normal and healthy for people to have “bad days” filled with stress or grief or sadness and that anyone can suffer from mental health issues “on any given day.” He concluded: “If you take anything away from today, just know that mental health affects every single person.”

The jam-packed summit began with street-style dancing from the students of the school and was followed by the power couple being greeted and introduced by the school’s director Joyce Agbese. During the outing Meghan was wearing a flattering peach-coloured dress while Prince Harry stepped out in a tight light grey button-down shirt as they both sported matching traditional African necklaces. This summit marks just one of the many stops the pair have ahead of them as it has been announced that they have a busy schedule coming including sporting events and trips to military hospitals and charities in Abuja and Lagos.

When the 39-year-old Duke of Sussex arrived in the UK to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games, it was widely assumed that he would take the opportunity to pay a visit to his 75-year-old dad, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. However, it was announced on Tuesday that a reunion between the duo was not on the cards, with the King apparently being too busy with “other priorities” to see his son.

According to a source close to the King, he is still reeling from the barrage of explosive claims Harry and Meghan have made about the Royal Family over the last couple of years. Speaking to the Daily Mail, they explained: “He doesn’t need the drama in his life,” adding: “Harry and Meghan have brought him, and the rest of the family, nothing but worries over the past few years.”

According to another insider, King Charles’ cancer diagnosis has made him realise that “his time might be very limited.” With a new determination to make a real difference as quickly as possible, the King is reluctant to get wrapped up in the drama that his son and daughter-in-law bring with them. The source revealed: “Frankly speaking, Harry and Meghan are a painful distraction that he could do without.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle touched down in Nigeria earlier this week, with their trip to West Africa poised to ‘boost their popularity and value of brand’, according to an expert

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Nigeria trip is poised to “boost their popularity, value and brand”, according to a royal expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex touched down in Nigeria in the early hours of Friday morning, following Prince Harry’s short but sweet trip to the United Kingdom. The couple are visiting the West African country on a 72-hour whistle-stop tour.

After Harry’s solo trip to the UK, he reunited with his wife at Heathrow. Meghan landed in the UK on Thursday after she flew in from Los Angeles. She was seen waiting for Harry at the airport in the VIP Windsor Suite.

And now royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams has revealed that the couple’s trip is “clearly designed to boost the value of their brand”. He exclusively told The Mirror: “The Sussexes are about to embark on a tour of Nigeria, which is linked to the Invictus Games which celebrated ten years at St Paul’s, with Earl Spencer and his sister Lady Jane Fellowes among the guest. No members of the Royal Family attended.”

He added that he believes the couple’s Nigerian trip “is clearly designed to boost the value of their brand, which has clearly diminished since TIME Magazine listed them as one of the world’s most influential couples in 2021”. Noting: “Their popularity is also lower in the United States where William topped a Gallup poll last year.”

Mr Fitzwilliams then said that Meghan’s discovery that she is 43 per cent Nigerian and “some specially selected photo opportunities should be successful, as their South Africa trip was in 2019, before they confessed their unhappiness at being senior working royals whilst on tour which caused shock”.

This comes after the couple touched down in West Africa after they boarded the British Airways overnight flight to Abuja. Their flight was hit with a delay after the scheduled pilot was sick and a replacement had to be found.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were sat in First Class and were kept apart from other passengers by a curtain. When they arrived in Abuja, other travellers were held back as they were escorted off the plane.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in 2018, with their relationship playing out in the public eye – from their first date to their upcoming Nigerian trip

Prince Harry is attending an Invictus Games event alone in the UK today (Wednesday, May 8) after Meghan Markle opted to stay stateside with their children, Archie and Lilibet.

The Duke returned to his home country on Tuesday ahead of the Invictus Games event at St Paul’s Cathedral. It’s speculated the former Suits star steered clear of any UK return in order to avoid stealing the limelight from the occasion.

PR expert Lynn Carratt previously told us: “Meghan likely didn’t want to take the spotlight away from Harry on this important occasion, and she knew that her presence could attract all the attention and she knows there is some hostility towards her in the UK.”

Here, we look at how Meghan and Harry’s relationship has changed – from their initial public outing, to her no-show this time around.

Just a year later, the pair were reciting their vows in what was one of the world’s most anticipated weddings. In May 2018, the joyful couple said I Do at Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Chapel. Just months later the news broke they were expecting a baby in Spring of 2019. The couple are currently parents to Archie, five, and Lilibet, two.

The timing of the Archie announcement came as Harry and Meghan arrived in Australia for their first royal tour. At the time, Harry gushed over his wife in a sweet speech in which they announced their baby news.

Harry and Meghan are no longer ‘openly affectionate’ in public

Earlier this year, it was claimed the couple’s relationship had evolved as they stopped being so publicly intimate together. Body language expert Darren Stanton claimed there had been a visible decrease in physical intimacy from The Duke And Duchess Of Sussex compared to years gone by, explaining that they are “not being as tactile with one another” as their “relationship has evolved.”

Talking to Hello! in January for Betfair Bingo Darren said: “Harry and Megan’s relationship has evolved. When looking at their body language, their public displays of affection have changed drastically over the years.

“When they started dating and became more established as an official couple, they were very affectionate in public, almost more affectionate than William and Kate.” The expert confirmed that while Harry and Meghan still give fans a glimpse of their intimacy they have become far more private about their personal lives.”

Despite a perceived lack of passionate public displays, it’s thought the couple are as strong as ever. In April, Darren said the couple had went back to old ways and were showing they are in a “strong place”.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Slots, he spoke of five change that he has spotted in the couple’s relationship. He said: “From a non verbal perspective, Harry and Meghan have appeared a lot stronger in recent months. There used to be some distance between them during previous events, there weren’t many PDA moments between them or touches of affection.

“However, that has totally changed.” Speaking about images after they had attended the Royal Salute Polo Challenge benefitting Sentebale at Grand Champions Polo Club on April 12, he said: “I noticed in one of the pictures, he had his hand on her back and neck, which is quite an intimate gesture to make in front of the public.”

Harry was also seen kissing his wife as she handed over the winners’ trophy.

King Charles and Prince William to meet at big joint royal engagement in huge blow to Harry

King Charles did not see Prince Harry when his youngest son visited the UK this week, something experts described as a “snub” which is said to have deepened their rift

King Charles will meet Prince William on Monday at a special ceremony to hand over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to the Prince of Wales.

The engagement has been confirmed today in what is expected to be another huge blow to Prince Harry, following his father’s “snub” this week as the pair did not meet despite Harry’s visit to the UK.

Buckingham Palace announced today: “At the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop, His Majesty The King will officially hand over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

“In August 2023, following His Majesty’s Accession, The King was pleased to announce military appointments including that The Prince of Wales would become Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps. The role was previously held by His Majesty The King, as Prince of Wales, for 31 years.”

The engagement in Hampshire is now scheduled for Monday, weeks after the monarch returned to royal duties following treatment for cancer.

Speaking after Charles did not see Harry this week, royal expert Michael Cole said: “It is quite a snub. For the King to not see his younger son, Prince Harry, although the two men will be only two miles apart tomorrow afternoon, gives an indication of the depth of the divide.

“The Prodigal Son is not welcome – not for the present, anyway. In royal terms, this is big medicine. Prince Harry is bound to see it for what it is, the clearest possible indication of the hurt that has been caused.”

Harry’s Invictus Games event was just three miles away from where Charles was, at Clarence House for a garden party. Harry’s spokesman had said the pair were unable to meet due to Charles’ “full schedule”.

He added: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme. The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

Instead, as the Duke’s foundation Archewell confirmed, Harry met city financier Guy Monson. Monson, chief investment officer of Sarasin and Partners, a London-based £18billion investment fund, was alongside the warring brothers when they unveiled a statue of their mother Princess Diana in 2021 at Kensington Palace. It was Harry and William’s last solo engagement together.

The new German documentary about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will likely ‘give an insight into their lives in Montecito’, it has been claimed by a public relations guru

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to have new bombshells unveiled about them in a new German documentary, with an expert now speculating about what we might learn from the new show.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to be the focus of a new documentary after they stepped down from their roles as senior royals in 2020. The show, which could reveal “fresh secrets” about them, was unveiled by a German TV production company in the week.

Journalist and royal expert, Ulrike Grunewald, is reported to head up the documentary, with the show produced for Germany’s ZDF network. According to reports, Ulrike is said to have travelled to California with a team of five people to investigate Montecito and gather insights from the neighbourhood where the couple resides with their two children.

Public relations guru Lynn Carratt from Press Box PR has spoken exclusively to The Mirror to give her thoughts on what the documentary might contain, and how the Sussexes will react. “The new documentary will be water off of a duck’s back, while they value their privacy and won’t enjoy having no control over what is said, they know they will be subject to these documentaries at times and biographers will always publish books about their lives,” Ms Carratt said this week.

She went on to add: “From my understanding of the new TV documentary, Harry and Meghan are not part of it. [Instead], it’s interviews with people who live near them who’ve perhaps worked with them previously. Not Harry and Meghan, giving their insight into their own lives or own opinions.”

Speculating what the documentary might contain, Ms Carratt concluded: “Viewers will likely get an insight into the couple’s life now and what it is like to live close to them, but I don’t believe it will have any impact on their upcoming projects.”

This comes as the Sussexes enjoy an “unofficial royal tour” of Nigeria after touching down in West Africa in the early hours of Friday morning.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror ahead of the couple’s trip to Nigeria, Lynn Carratt from Press Box PR said that the couple would likely want to “generate some positive stories”, with their security at the forefront of their minds.

Ms Carratt explained how the couple were invited by the head of Defence, Christopher Musa, who Harry built up a close friendship with at the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf last year. She added how Meghan recently discovered that she has Nigerian heritage, adding that “it’s possible that they might take Archie and Lilibet” on a visit at some point. If they do decide to take Archie, “it wouldn’t be Archie’s first official overseas visit, he made his debut as a baby on the Couple’s Royal Tour in South Africa,” Ms Carratt noted.

Concluding her analysis, Ms Carrat said: “Nigeria is a country where Meghan and Harry are celebrated, and they’ll want to generate some positive stories for the visit.

“I’m sure as they are with any overseas trip to any country, security will be [at] the forefront of their mind and will be meticulously planned.”

This comes after Harry gave a moving speech while the couple attended a school on Friday. Speaking to the children and addressing the room, Harry said: “In some places around the world, more than you would believe, there is a stigma against mental health. Too many people don’t want to talk about it because it’s invisible, it’s in your mind and we can’t see it.”

Elsewhere in his speech, the Duke of Sussex continued: “There is no shame to be able to acknowledge that today is a bad day. Okay? If you woke up this morning feeling sad, if you left school feeling stressed, if you’ve lost a loved one in your family who you usually turn to or speak to, all of these things you may be led to believe are not for conversation. We are here today to tell you that that is not the case.

“Every single one of those things is completely normal. It is a human reaction, whether it’s grief, stress, whatever the feeling is, it comes from experiences you have had.”

Now, photographs show Royal Lodge, capturing its tired and crumbling walls. Moss is seen on the structure and paint is peeling away. Scaffolding has been seen at the front of the property, where a skip full of rubble was also spotted.

The site of homes since the 17th century, the present structure dates from the 19th century, and was expanded in the 1930s.

DON’T MISSIt was the Windsor residence of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother from 1952 until she died there in 2002, at the age of 101. In 2004, Andrew and his wife Sarah Ferguson moved into Royal Lodge and the pair, though now long divorced, now remain there.

A friend of King Charles said: “As things stand, life at Royal Lodge is set to become increasingly cold and uncomfortable for the duke. The only question now is when he will realise that he has become a prisoner of his own pride — and that handing back the keys will afford him far greater comfort, and the continued support of his family.”

Andrew was forced to step down from royal duties amid the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. He quit public life in November 2019, admitting it had “become clear [that] my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work.”

And a source close to the royal family told The Times Andrew is taking “longer than desirable to recognise the reality of the situation”. They added: “If he doesn’t agree to move to a property better suited to his needs, then the King may have to reconsider the levels of support he is willing to provide.”

The latest opinion poll revealed Prince Andrew to be the least popular member of the royal family by far. The YouGov survey showed the duke was popular with only 9 per cent of people, while 76 per cent said they disliked him.

Charles has previously claimed his brother should move to nearby Frogmore Cottage — Prince Harry and Meghan’s former home. The monarch’s wish for Andrew to downsize came as he reportedly cut his £250,000 annual allowance that he had been previously provided with by the late Queen Elizabeth.
