How spectacularly did Lionel Messi help David Beckham prove Mark Wahlberg wrong?

Lionel Messi has shown Mark Wahlberg’s comments about David Beckham’s ability to grow ‘soccer’ to be incorrect.

The public fallout from the bitter breakdown of the friendship between Mark Wahlberg and David Beckham continues,

but it seems the English football icon is having the last laugh as he proved his former friend wrong with one prediction.

The globally recognised duo are currently locking legal horns as it was revealed that the ex-Manchester United winger has taken legal action against the Hollywood star,

along with F45 founders Adam Gilchrist and Rob Deutsch. Beckham’s company, DB Ventures Ltd, claims that Wahlberg “duped” him into collaborating with F45,

with the former Real Madrid superstar reportedly losing $10.5 million as his shares were held back until share prices fell.

However, Wahlberg and his team have refuted these allegations, with the ensuing controversy making headlines on both sides of the Atlantic. Despite the pair having been close previously, even being neighbours, it seems there has been some tension between them since the early days of Beckham’s move to America.

His adversary, known for his role in “Ted”, made remarks about the former LA Galaxy midfielder as far back as 2009 – just two years into his stint in the MLS in the US. Commenting on the effect of the star’s arrival on his local area, Wahlberg told the Daily Mail: “Man, the Beckhams. It used to be so quiet on my road.”

“Then David moves in with his family. Suddenly we’ve got paparazzi hanging out day and night. Now they’ll follow any car that drives down the road. I take strong exception to that kind of thing. When I take my kids to the park I don’t want strangers sticking their lenses into our faces.”, reports the Mirror US.

On top of his clear dismay surrounding the media circus that had accompanied Beckham’s presence in California, he also had some choice words to say about his sport of choice. Predicting that his designs on improving the popularity of soccer in the US would prove fruitless, he continued: “I’m not telling Beckham to take his family home.

“I’m just not sure why he came to America in the first place. Man, we don’t want your soccer. There’s no way Americans are going to buy the idea of 90 minutes of running around without much happening. Thanks for trying guys, but we’ll stick to baseball and basketball.”

Fast forward some 15 years, however, and it appears that Beckham has very much defied his naysayers in this regard, with his own career in MLS having provided a launchpad for his co-ownership of Inter Miami. Establishing the club back in 2018, the franchise was eventually able to pull off arguably the most significant transfer in American soccer history in 2023.

Finally, with World Cup winner and eight-time Ballon d’Or recipient Messi making his way to Florida, the sport has seen a surge in popularity stateside in recent months. With record attendances at stadiums that followed his rockstar-like reception across the US, the legendary winger’s move to Miami has been welcomed by large sections of the American populace.

In this regard, Beckham’s aspiration of changing the perception of soccer in the country ultimately came true as “Messi Mania” seized the nation following his switch from PSG. Considering the fact that the World Cup is set to be hosted by the US in 2026, the arrival of the Argentinian superstar may well be considered the turning point in America finally embracing soccer.

This clearly reinforces Messi’s influence is undeniable, and the Argentine legend has assisted Beckham in defying Wahlberg’s dismissive statements about his sport.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were ‘exploitative’ in the run up to Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022 and have ‘lost the trust of the royal family’, according to an expert.

Meghan and Harry 'upset late Queen with exploitative' ways and 'lost trust', says expert

Phil Dampier has revealed that the Duke and Duchess have been marked by the royal family as ones ‘not to trust’, as they fear that being around Harry and Meghan means they will end up being featured in their Netflix programmes or in another project they’re working on.

The couple are also thought to have worried the late Queen Elizabeth so much, that she avoided any public photographs with them or their children Prince Archie or Princess Lilibet.

Phil Dampier, who spoke to The Sun, explained: “The big fear that the late Queen had and that the King now has is that when [Harry and Meghan] turn up, they do tend to turn up with a sort of Netflix film crew or a photographer in tow. You always get the feeling that whatever happens, whatever the discussions are, that it’s going to sooner or later end up on a programme or in some sort of podcast. And that’s unfortunately where the trust has gone and they just don’t trust [Harry].”

Dampier also explained that she was aware, right up until her death, that any photographs of her alongside the Duke and Duchess of Sussex or their children could have been “exploited”, and as a result chose not to be pictured publicly with them.

The comments come as Harry and Meghan are both focused on their current projects with Netflix. In 2020, the couple signed a reported $100million (£78.6million) deal with Netflix, which is due to expire next year in 2025. Since they signed with the streaming platform, Harry and Meghan have worked on several projects including their six-part docuseries, which featured many controversial comments about the royal family and their experience as royals.

Now Harry is working on a documentary series looking at the sport of polo with Meghan focusing on a lifestyle and cookery show, which is thought to tie into her new American Riviera Orchard brand. However it’s thought that interest in the former royals might be waning, as royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told The Mirror: “Yet since their $100 million contract with Netflix began, they have done hardly anything for it. It runs out next year and Netflix are no longer producing the series of The Crown, as they previously were. They might therefore have less interest in the Sussexes.”

BREAKING Royal Divorce : Meghan Markle files for divorce from Prince Harry Multi-Dollar Split ( US$80 million )

Meghan Markle Files for Divorce from Prince Harry in Multi-Million Dollar Split

In a stunning development, former American actress Meghan Markle has reportedly filed for divorce from Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, seeking a staggering settlement of US$80 million.

The news comes as a seismic shock to the British monarchy and the world at large, as the couple’s union was once hailed as a modern fairytale.

Speculation about the state of their marriage has been rife since their highly publicized departure from royal duties in early 2020, dubbed “Megxit” by the media.

Despite efforts to carve out a new life away from the intense scrutiny of royal life, it appears that the strains on their relationship have proven insurmountable.

Meghan Markle, who rose to fame as an actress in the hit television series “Suits,” captivated the world when she married Prince Harry in a lavish ceremony at Windsor Castle in May 2018. The union was celebrated as a symbol of progress and inclusivity within the traditionally conservative institution of the British monarchy.

However, cracks in their relationship began to emerge amid relentless media scrutiny and rumors of tension between Meghan and the royal family. The couple’s decision to step back from their roles as senior members of the royal family and relocate to North America only intensified speculation about the state of their marriage.

Now, with Meghan reportedly seeking a divorce and a substantial financial settlement, the world is left to wonder what went wrong behind the closed doors of the royal palaces. While neither Meghan nor Harry has publicly commented on the divorce filing, sources close to the couple suggest that irreconcilable differences and the pressures of royal life played a significant role in their decision to part ways.

The reported US$80 million settlement sought by Meghan Markle is expected to include provisions for child support and custody arrangements for their two children, Archie and Lilibet. The financial implications of the divorce are likely to reverberate throughout the royal family and could prompt a reassessment of their financial arrangements and obligations.

As the world waits for further developments in this unfolding saga, one thing is certain: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s divorce marks the end of a chapter in the history of the British monarchy and raises questions about its ability to adapt to the changing realities of the modern world.

Big celebration for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ahead of missing society wedding of the year

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had a busy few weeks following their trip to Nigeria and Prince Harry’s brief pitstop in London. And while royal watchers are eagerly awaiting for the Duke of Westminster’s big day in Chester on 7 June, we suspect Prince Harry and Meghan will remain at home.

Instead, the couple will be marking their daughter Princess Lilibet’s third birthday on 4 June, and they will no doubt pull out all the stops for the celebration.

The royal youngster lives in Montecito, California with her parents and older brother, Prince Archie, and we imagine the close-knit family are throwing a fun party for little Lilibet in their stunning mansion.

During their recent tour of Nigeria, the Duke and Duchess shared rare details about their two children. When they visited a local school, supported by their Archewell Foundation, Harry asked some students: “Is singing and dancing your favourite class?”

“That’s Lili’s favorite class,” Meghan said of their daughter. “Maybe it’s all the jumping around.”

She added of her little one: “And interestingly, so our daughter, Lili, she’s much, much tinier than you guys. She’s about to turn three. And a few weeks ago she looked at me and she would just see the reflection in my eyes.

“And she said ‘Mama, I see me in you’. Oh, now she was talking really, literally. But I hung onto those words in a very different way. And I thought, yes, I do see me and you, and you see me and you, but as I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have arrived in Nigeria, where they will remain until Monday. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a packed itinerary for their visit

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reunited following the Duke of Sussex’s short visit to the UK as they travelled to Nigeria together on a 72-hour whistle-stop tour.

The Duchess of Sussex did not join her husband as he attended a service to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral in London but met him at Heathrow Airport where she landed from Los Angeles on Thursday.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Release Official Engagement Photos

The Sussexes then boarded the British Airways overnight flight to Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. The flight was delayed as the scheduled pilot was sick and a replacement had to be found.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were sat in First Class and were kept apart from other passengers by a curtain. When they arrived in Abuja, other travellers were held back as they were escorted off the plane. Here, we look at the couple’s first 24 hours in Nigeria.

Harry and Meghan were welcomed by Nigerian officials who met them at the airport. The couple were taken out of a side door onto the jetty and into a waiting minibus.

The Sussexes were invited to the country – located on the western coast of Africa – by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who met Harry last September at the games in Düsseldorf, Germany. However, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria confirmed Harry and Meghan do not represent the UK during the trip and are not visiting the country on official business.

He said: “It’s great that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are visiting Nigeria, which I understand is at the invitation of Defence Headquarters. But they are visiting in a private capacity, not an official one.”

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, Richard added: “So, the British High Commission is not involved in arranging or facilitating their programme. They are not representing the work of His Majesty’s Government on this visit.”

Meghan smiled as she stood next to her husband as he spoke, nodding along to his comments. Harry continued to say that mental health is “still something we are relatively unsure of”. He added: “But guess what, every single person in this room, the youngest, the oldest, every single person has mental health.

“So therefore, you have to look after yourself in order to be able to help other people, other people have to look after themselves in order to be able to look after you. That’s the way it works.”

The Duke of Sussex continued: “There is no shame to be able to acknowledge that today is a bad day. Okay? If you woke up this morning feeling sad, if you left school feeling stressed, if you’ve lost a loved one in your family who you usually turn to or speak to, all of these things you may be led to believe are not for conversation. We are here today to tell you that that is not the case.

For all the latest on news, politics, sports, and showbiz from the USA, go to The Mirror US.

“Every single one of those things is completely normal. It is a human reaction, whether it’s grief, stress, whatever the feeling is, it comes from experiences you have had.” Harry stressed how anyone can suffer from mental health issues “on any given day”.

He concluded: “If you take anything away from today, just know that mental health affects every single person.” Meghan didn’t speak during the speech as she let her husband take the lead.

Wellness expert and mental health mentor Sara Goode praised Harry for his openness. She said: “This statement is key, if each of us learns to process and deal with our own emotional needs first, we stop projecting our feelings and therefore thoughts and judgements onto others. As the saying goes, ‘healed people heal people, hurt people hurt people’.

“Taking responsibility for how we feel, and being brave enough to ask for help when we need it shows everyone around us that it is OK to not be OK, we are all vulnerable in different ways, but we can find collective strength in that vulnerability when we take ownership of it.”

Harry and Meghan wore casual outfits during their first few hours in Nigeria. The Duke of Sussex wore a light grey top, while the Duchess opted for a peach-coloured dress. They both wore traditional African necklaces, with Meghan adding a simple gold necklace.

Harry and Meghan are visiting Nigeria to promote the Invictus Games and have a packed itinerary for their trip, which lasts until Monday. Among their plans is a trip to the country’s military headquarters and a visit to Lagos.

The couple will also watch a volleyball game and visit military hospitals and charities in Abuja and Lagos. The Defence HQ revealed their itinerary in a press conference on Thursday, May 9, saying they are also scheduled to meet injured armed forces personnel and their families.
