  • Prince Harry was ‘still anxious’ as he left St Paul’s Invictus service and ‘kept his distance from fans on walkabout in case his reception was less than warm’, body language expert says

Prince Harry was ‘still anxious’ as he left St Paul’s Invictus service and ‘kept his distance from fans on walkabout in case his reception was less than warm’, body language expert says

Prince Harry’s ‘lack of body engagement’ during his walkabout in London gave him ‘the option of a face-saving exit’ if he had a bad reception, an expert said today.

The Duke of Sussex greeted crowds as he left St Paul’s Cathedral alone yesterday following a service to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

The estranged royal, who was met with cheers from well-wishers, beamed as he shook hands and joked around with hundreds of people who lined up to greet him.

And body language expert Judi James told MailOnline that he clearly marked the walkabout as ‘brief and impromptu via his body language announcement rituals’.

These included ‘bending towards the crowd and hunching his shoulders to avoid giving the impression that this was a scheduled event’, the psychologist added. She also said that he showed ‘signals of inner anxiety’ both before and after the service.

Prince Harry waves to well-wishers outside St Paul’s Cathedral in London yesterday

And Ms James pointed out that Harry ‘stands away and leans in from a distance rather than making it more of a royal, immersive form of greeting and chatting’.

    By JUDI JAMES

Harry has clearly marked this walkabout after the service as brief and impromptu via his body language announcement rituals, bending towards the crowd and hunching his shoulders to avoid giving the impression that this was a scheduled event rather than a quick pop across to register his ongoing popularity.

He stands away and leans in from a distance rather than making it more of a royal, immersive form of greeting and chatting and his lack of body engagement probably gives him the option of a face-saving exit if his reception is less than warm.

Harry’s wreathed grin with eye crinkling suggests he might be excited and relieved to meet fans in the UK although his signals of inner anxiety that were visible on the way into the service he are still on display here and might even have increased.

Harry’s hand to waist gesture on his way into the service was a barrier ritual masking as a buttoning of his jacket.

On his way out though he is placing his hand flat across his stomach and even switches hands when he goes to do handshakes with the crowd.

At one point his left hand also pulls his jacket across and he starts to fiddle with the buttonhole.

This placing of the flat of the hand across the stomach is a barrier ritual he shares with his brother William. Combined with the buttonhole fiddling it implies a desire to self-comfort.

For Harry it is linked to deeper emotions too as he has used it in the past when he has been speaking about his mother.

Judi James is a psychologist and body language expert

She said his ‘lack of body engagement probably gives him the option of a face-saving exit if his reception is less than warm’.

Ms James added: ‘Harry’s wreathed grin with eye crinkling suggests he might be excited and relieved to meet fans in the UK.’

As Harry left the cathedral around 6pm yesteday, he greeted the crowds and was heard asking two fans from New York what had brought them to the UK.

When they responded that they were in Britain for a wedding, the Prince jokingly asked whether it was ‘in there’ – referring to St Paul’s.

The Duke joked around with one enthusiastic fan who had her arms outstretched with two phones to try and get the best shot of Harry.

‘Why have you got two phones?’ he laughed. ‘It doesn’t make sense!’

The crowd was tightly guarded by police officers, and shouts of ‘we love you Harry’ could be heard while others screamed with excitement until Harry got into a Range Rover and was driven away.

Earlier, Harry arrived at St Paul’s just before 5pm for the service which was also attended by close relatives of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales and a mentor who supported him after her death, along with hundreds from the ‘Invictus family’.

Analysing his arrival, Ms James said there were ‘signals of inner anxiety that were visible on the way into the service’ which were ‘still on display’ by the time he did the walkabout afterwards, and ‘might even have increased’.

She said: ‘Harry’s hand to waist gesture on his way into the service was a barrier ritual masking as a buttoning of his jacket.

‘On his way out though he is placing his hand flat across his stomach and even switches hands when he goes to do handshakes with the crowd. At one point his left hand also pulls his jacket across and he starts to fiddle with the buttonhole.’

She added that the ‘placing of the flat of the hand across the stomach’ is a ‘barrier ritual’ which he shares with his estranged brother Prince William.

Ms James continued: ‘Combined with the buttonhole fiddling it implies a desire to self-comfort. For Harry it is linked to deeper emotions too as he has used it in the past when he has been speaking about his mother. ‘

Among the guests for the service were Diana’s siblings Lady Jane Fellowes and Earl Spencer, and former army officer Mark Dyer, who acted as the duke’s mentor, playing the role of a supportive big brother figure for Harry after the princess’s death.

Other notable guests included his cousin Louis Spencer, the Prime Minister’s wife Akshata Murty and his lawyer David Sherbourne.

Crowds had gathered around crash barriers to see the Harry’s car pull up, and Harry acknowledged them with a wave as he strode up St Paul’s steps before being warmly greeted warmly greeted by the Dean of St Paul’s, the Very Reverend Andrew Tremlett.

The St Paul’s Cathedral service to recognise the Paralympic-style competition the royal founded began as a few miles away Charles met guests at the first Buckingham Palace garden party of the year.

The monarch and his son have not met during Harry’s brief UK visit due to the King’s ‘full programme’, said Harry’s spokesman in a statement on Tuesday.

There have been reports of issues of trust but the statement had a conciliatory tone and mentioned how the duke hoped to ‘see him soon’.

Harry was inspired to found the global tournament after attending the Warrior Games in Colorado in 2013 and seeing how injured American military personnel thrived on the challenge of taking part in competitive sports that aided their recovery.

Mrs Turner, Team UK captain for the 2018 Games, told the guests: ‘Wounded, injured, sick, and now with no career: consumed by insecurities, the pain and the fear.

‘Our lives were upside down, how could it be, that the little girl I was meant to protect, was now looking after me.’

At the end, after her voice broke with emotion as she said ‘Thank you Invictus for giving my life back’, the congregation stood and applauded.

The Dean of St Paul’s echoed her words in his sermon when he said the Invictus Games Foundation, which organises the competition, was ‘ … not only changing lives through sport but quite literally by saving lives’.

Harry later joined some of the Invictus community for a private reception in the cathedral’s crypt and it is thought he will travel today to Nigeria, for a tour of the African country with his wife Meghan.

Prince William and his father have been having regular one-to-one meetings in Sandringham.

Prince William: No to Harry's royal return; he, Meghan can't be trusted: report

The Prince of Wales believes his brother Prince Harry and sister-in-law Meghan Markle “cannot be trusted”, it has been claimed by a source close to Prince William.

The source has said in the wake of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, he would be the one to take on more duties himself if needed while it is understood he believes Harry and his wife Meghan “cannot be trusted”, writes The Mirror.

It comes after Prince Harry jetted back to the UK after learning of his father’s diagnosis and re portedly said “he would try” to help out if his father asked him to.

Harry is also alleged to have told friends he would step into a temporary royal role while Charles is unwell following several “warm exchanges” since it was revealed Charles has cancer.

Prince William and his father have been having regular one-to-one meetings in Sandringham, where the monarch is recuperating after weekly cancer treatment in London. A source close has said there is “no chance” the heir would allow his brother back.

The source added: “Whatever has been discussed between William and the King is private, but it is absolutely and categorically clear that he (William) would not allow Harry to return. He thought it was a bad idea at the time and he’s even more clear now.

“If anyone is going to take on more duties it will be William and that isn’t even on the agenda for now. His main focus is on his father’s health, his family and what is best for the monarchy. There is a zero per cent chance Harry is coming back in any capacity.”

Meghan and Harry are being snubbed by Hollywood stars as they side with Prince William

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are trying to “retain relevance” in Hollywood by launching their rebrand but it appears Harry’s estranged brother Prince William is still more popular among A-listers.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have seen various Hollywood stars distance themselves from the former royal couple as they are choosing to support the King and Prince William instead, according to an expert.

Josh Rom has claimed that while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are attempting to build their careers in Hollywood, they are falling out with celebrity A-listers “left, right and centre” as their Hollywood peers are opting to side with Harry’s father and older brother.

The royal commentator highlighted that while the Sussexes are “trying to retain relevance” in Tinsel town with the likes of their Netflix and Spotify contract, it’s actually William who attended the BAFTAs in London last week.

The Prince of Wales was at the 77th British Academy Film and Television Arts Awards on February 18 where he was seen chatting with Cate Blanchett and David Beckham.

Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan recently launched a new website while they launch their Sussex “rebrand”, the Mirror reports.

However, Mr Rom couldn’t help but point out that it’s “ironic” that William and Charles seem to be getting more support than the Sussexes’ who are trying so hard to stay relevant.

Speaking to Sky News Australia the day after the BAFTAs, he said: “I find it almost ironic that Prince Harry and Meghan are trying to make it in Hollywood, but yet it’s the King and Prince William that are receiving more support from the stage and screen.”

The commentator also claimed that while Meghan had some success from starring as one of the leading roles in the hit legal drama Suits, she was only “elevated” to the world stage after joining the Royal Family.

He said: “She was hardly Angelina Jolie, she wasn’t at the top of the A-list circuit. Certain sources have told me, before she was a royal, that she and her former press representative would be meeting the tabloids to get Meghan into the press to further her career.”

He added: “She’s only been elevated to the world stage because of Prince Harry.”

However, Mr Rom’s remarks were played down by a PR expert who said the former royal couple seem to be “regaining their lost popularity” in Hollywood as in recent months they have attended glamorous galas in LA to move premieres in Jamaica.

Lynn Carratt from Press Box PR claims that Harry and Meghan are getting more comfortable with being in the spotlight again and are developing “Brand Sussex” in a new, positive light.

The duchess began easing her way back into the Hollywood scene back in November when she walked the red carpet at a Variety Magazine gala in Los Angeles.

At the time, she even spoke to a reporter on the red carpet as she teased that she and Harry “have so many exciting things on the slate”.

Ms Carratt said that after Meghan’s defiant hint at the gala, “it sounds as if they are focussed on building their brand in 2024”.

The Hollywood guru went on: “It has also been claimed the couple are planning on moving from their Montecito mansion to LA, to be closer to Hollywood.”

She noted that the couple’s popularity “is back on the up and they have lots of work offers on the table, but the couple is said to be picking quality over quantity.”

She continued to say that Meghan is on the books of talent agency WME, saying: “I’m sure they’ll be advising her on the type of work to take, but I firmly believe they need some strong PR support to ensure they’re doing [sic] the right things to enhance their popularity and change public perception.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been slammed by former royal butler, Paul Burrell, who has weighed in his opinion of the Sussexes’ and their controversial decisions since leaving the Royal Family.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been slammed by Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell who has savagely branded the Sussexes’ as “Ginge and Whinge”.

Paul Burrell was the late Princess of Wales’ royal butler for 11 years and naturally struck up a friendship with Harry’s late mother as well as serving as footman to the late Queen Elizabeth.

However, the former butler has now made his thoughts very clear on Diana’s youngest son and some of his controversial decisions in recent years, as well as his recent loss in court after taking legal action against the Home Office.

Mr Burrell spoke to GB News this week following Harry’s legal battle verdict and his announcement to appeal it, the Mirror reports.

He said: “I think quite frankly the British public are sick and tired of ‘Ginge and Whinge’ and wish they would stay in America because if you stayed there, you wouldn’t have to suffer the indignity of coming to Britain.”

The former royal butler then added that he believes the Duke of Sussex is “full of his own self-importance” and has an “inflated ego”.

He continued: “It’s egotistical of him to think that he was in a greater risk than his mother,” referring to Harry’s recent security case in the High Court in which he argued that he and his family are at risk when in the UK.

Mr Burrell then slammed the duke’s claims that the decision regarding his security was taken away from him “without his knowledge” and happened as soon as he announced his departure from the Firm.

He said on GB News: “…and to say now that this was done without his knowledge is quite frankly wrong.

“It’s once again one of Harry’s truths and why should the British taxpayer put the bill for the security of an American celebrity visiting Britain. Can I just remind you that Harry chose to leave the Royal Family, it was his decision.

“I think that it’s an arrogant position to think that he is so important, he wanted to leave the Royal Family.”

A Royal expert has suggested that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could potentially make a permanent return to the UK and the Royal Family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to the United States in 2020, shortly after announcing their decision to step back as senior members of the Royal Family.

It’s been suggested that Harry, 39, is eager to rejoin the Royal family with his wife Meghan, 42. Grant Harold, former butler to Prince Charles, shared his thoughts on the possibility of the Sussexes making a Royal comeback.

Speaking to the New York Post, Mr Harold said it’s hard to predict whether the Sussexes could be welcomed back into the Royal family due to the trust issues and events that have transpired. He stated: “It’s difficult to say given everything that has gone on and the trust that has been broken down whether they could return as full-time royals, but I’ve always said if Harry did return to the UK, it is possible.”

He also mentioned that Harry could discuss resuming his Royal duties with his brother, but there are many issues from the past few years that need to be resolved before the Sussexes can consider a permanent return.

Mr Harold further expressed his belief about the Royal brothers, saying during his time with the Royal Family: “I saw how close William and Harry were, I don’t think that’s a relationship that is too far gone to be healed or fixed.”, reports The Mirror Online.

Prince Harry will be ‘destructive’ to William when he becomes king: ‘Another step closer to isolation’

Prince Harry will be “destructive” to his brother Prince William once he becomes king, according to a royal expert.

Paul Burrell, the former butler to the late Princess Diana, believes that the Duke of Sussex is currently on a path to total isolation following his attacks on his family since quitting royal life in 2020.

“I think they are just letting him get on with it now,” Burrell said of the royals. “Harry is taking another step closer all the time to isolation.”

“Harry has pressed the self-destruct button and he is going ahead with what he thinks is right and I think he will come unstuck,” he continued. “I don’t think all their plans are going to pan out, I think there is a time scale to his destruction.”

Burrell adds that this “mess” between both camps simply wouldn’t exist had Diana still been around.

“There is no one to do it and so it is going to rumble on because nobody is brave enough to stick their neck out and no one is strong enough for Harry to listen to,” he added.

Elsewhere, the royal expert said that the father of two is possibly biding his time for his estranged brother to assume the throne.

“I think [Harry] might be holding out hope for when William becomes king,” Burrell said.

“Harry believed there would be a new chapter and a new leaf with a place for him but he would be so estranged by then that he would be barely recognizable to the public and I’m not sure they want him back on a full-time role,” he added on behalf of Slingo.

Calling Harry a “destructive” person to have close to the Firm, Burrell added that the royals are always guessing as to “what he is going to do next.”

Since stepping away from the royal spotlight, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have built a life of their own in sunny Montecito, Calif.

Despite being 5,459 miles from London, the Sussexes have remained close to Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice — a friendship that has reportedly rubbed Kate Middleton the wrong way.

According to a royal expert, the Princess of Wales, 42, is reportedly “worried” by the “alliance” the daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have formed with Harry and the “Suits” alum.

“For William and Kate, an alliance between Harry and Meghan and Beatrice and Eugenie is a huge worry,” royal expert and author Tom Quinn told the Mirror.

“Although Harry and Meghan have little sympathy for Prince Andrew, they’ve kept in regular contact with Beatrice and Eugenie, who have always been free of any associations with Meghan’s angry, bitter time in the UK.”

“The situation is made worse by the fact that the senior royals’ main asset — Kate herself — is effectively out of action while she continues her treatment for cancer,” he added.

Eugenie has even visited the Sussexes in the US, with the pair seen watching the Super Bowl together back in 2022.

She was also the only figure from the royal family to make an appearance in his Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan.”
