Inside Harry’s Invictus Games St Paul’s service: Duke of Sussex is seen laughing with veterans in new video from UK whistle-stop trip

Prince Harry was seen laughing with veterans during his whistle-stop trip to the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games in a newly released video.

The Duke of Sussex spent three days in Britain at the beginning of the May as he attended a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

The event was attended by Harry, as well as senior figures from the Invictus Games Foundation, wounded veterans who have taken part in the sporting event and famous faces such as actor Damian Lewis, MP Johnny Mercer and former triple jumper Jonathan Edwards.

In a video released by the foundation on Saturday night which gives viewers a look at what happened behind closed doors after the service, the father-of-two was seen laughing and joking with attendees.

The Duke was also seen giving a speech from the pulpit in St Paul’s in which he quoted a verse from the Bible, saying: ‘To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.’

In the footage, actor Lewis can also be seen giving a reading of Invictus by English poet William Ernest Henley, a work which has been closely linked to the sporting event founded by Harry.

‘It matters not how straight the gait, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul,’ Mr Lewis said.

An emotional reading was also given by Michelle Turner who is the UK Invictus Games Team vice-captain. She read a personal poem about how the games had helped her recovery and impacted her family.

At the end of the reading she tearfully said: ‘Thank you Invictus, for giving me my life back.’

Harry was the only member of the Royal Family to attend the service, with King Charles hosting the first annual garden party at Buckingham Palace – attended by other senior members of The Firm – across the capital at the same time.

The Duke had been in good spirits when he arrived earlier in the day, waving and smiling at the crowd outside the cathedral before warmly greeting the Dean of St Paul’s the Very Reverend Andrew Tremlett, exchanging words with his uncle Earl Spencer and sitting next to his mentor Mark Dyer.

In the service Harry read a passage from Corinthians 12 ahead of a sermon.

He said: ‘To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues to another the interpretation of tongues.’

Upon leaving the event he took the opportunity to do an impromptu walkabout, speaking to and joking with members of the public who were waiting outside.

In all Harry spent three nights in the capital without seeing any family members before meeting his wife, Meghan, at Heathrow airport and flying onto Nigeria for a quasi-royal tour.

Despite the time spent in the capital, Harry did not meet with any members of the Royal Family with a row breaking out after a spokesman for the Prince suggested his father King Charles was ‘too busy’ to see him.

Harry is said to have turned down an invitation by the King to stay at a royal residence when he visited the UK earlier this month because he had ‘security concerns’.

He is said to have declined his father’s offer because it did not come with any taxpayer-funded personal security provision, which would leave him staying in a ‘visible location with public entrance and exit points and no police protection’.

Instead he chose to stay at a hotel – presumably with members of the public – because it meant he ‘could come and go unseen’, claimed The Telegraph.

The newspaper further maintained that the Duke of Sussex ‘remains devastated’ about the withdrawal of his automatic right to police protection which is still battling the Home Office over through the British courts.

He now has to give the Metropolitan Police 28 days’ notice before coming to the UK if he wants to apply for security provision, with each request assessed on an individual basis by Ravec, the committee which oversees the protection of royalty and public figures.

While it has not been revealed where the King offered Harry a room, St James’ Palace is a strong possibility.

Princess Beatrice has a permanent apartment there, while Princess Anne has a suite of rooms – and a parking place – she uses when staying in London.

Other members of the Royal Family use it on an ad hoc basis.

Moreover it is situated directly adjacent to Clarence House where the King stays when in London.

It would have allowed father and son a place to meet in relative privacy and is guarded round-the-clock by a ‘ring of steel’.

Do you think it’s reasonable for Harry to refuse to see his family due to security risks?

In fact all royal residences – whichever one Harry was offered – feature armed guards at entry and exit points, unlike any London hotel, and boast the most sophisticated security systems in the country to protect working members of the family.

Buckingham Palace has consistently declined to comment on anything to do with Harry and his father.

But a spokesman for the prince chose to issue a statement when he came to London at the beginning of May for a service to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

It strongly suggested that while Harry was keen to meet his father, the King was effectively ‘too busy’ to see him.

However it has since become clear that while His Majesty did indeed have a packed programme of engagements that week, the King had made conciliatory overtures that would have enabled him to see his son.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment at the time, while a request for comment was put to the Sussexes UK spokesman.

It’s take-your-daughter to work day for David Beckham!

The Inter Miami co-founder, 49, posted a sweet photo of him with his 12-year-old daughter Harper on Saturday, June 1, as the pair watched his team play against St. Louis City SC in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

“Didn’t get the 3 points we wanted but I have this little one by my side #HarperSeven,” David wrote in the caption, after drawing 3-3 at the match.

The former soccer player appeared with his arm around Harper in the photo as the pair both smiled while standing beside the pitch during the game at Chase Stadium.

Despite not winning the match, Inter Miami player Lionel Messi broke the record during the match as the fastest player to reach 25 goal contributions in a season in his 12th game with the team, according to MLS Communications.

Harper is David and his wife Victoria Beckham’s only daughter. They also share three sons, Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, and Cruz, 19.

In April, David urged his boys to “get ready” to protect their little sister as he posted a photo of her all grown up, ahead of her 13th birthday in July.

In the black-and-white image, proud dad David, in a suit and bow tie, smiled while posing with Harper as she sat on his lap wearing a strapless dress.

Harper has attended many soccer games with her dad in recent years as a soccer fan herself. In August 2023, she walked onto the field with Messi, 36, at an Inter Miami soccer match.

In a September 2018 interview with Vogue, Victoria, 50, shared that her daughter has a sporty side like her father, telling the outlet, “… She’s quite girly, but on the other hand she has three big brothers and likes to run around and play football. She’s not scared of being pushed over.”

“Let me tell you one thing about Victoria, Prince Harry met her just after his mother died,” Angela Levin told GB News. “His father had to go to South Africa, and they were with the Spice Girls.”

“He met her, and there’s pictures of him holding her hand. He said to me when I was interviewing him that it was the best day of his life,” she revealed. “And so they invited them to Highgrove. He said to me, ‘That was the second best day of my life.’”

In 2018, the soccer star was an ambassador for the Invictus Games, and he traveled to Australia to support the Duke of Sussex.

“David Beckham was going to go to the Invictus Games. He was asked by Harry if he would go, and he did. But Harry wouldn’t talk to him at all,” the biographer alleged.

“He flew all the way to Sydney, but nothing happened,” she continued. “But then the Beckhams were accused of leaking material, saying nasty things about the Sussexes, and they got very upset. And that’s what made him absolutely furious.”

Although rumors began to swirl about the Sussexes’ ties to the Beckhams, the British duo continues to support King Charles.

“King Charles loves him, they’ve got lots in common now. They both love having bees and making their own honey,” Levin noted.

“And David’s moved very close to Highgrove, where the King lives, so it’s very easy to talk about. But also he’s been looking for somebody who would be help running his charity, the King’s Charity,” she explained. “And he’s a working man who actually has come up from the bottom and actually done it all himself.”

“Beckham would be marvelous at helping these people, doing all that,” she concluded.

Victoria and David Beckham were rumored to have cut off Prince Harry.

OK! previously reported a source claimed David was “absolutely bloody furious” after he was allegedly accused of sharing information with the press. “Any making-up now is so unlikely,” the insider claimed.

“Harry was very polite, but obviously it was a pretty awkward exchange and David was mortified,” a source told a publication.

“Inexplicably, [Meghan] feared Victoria was behind it — I mean, the idea that Victoria Beckham would be personally ringing journalists to give them a scoop is ridiculous — and spoke to Harry about it,” they added.

The Beckhams haven’t been spotted in California with the Sussexes, but David once praised his friendship with the duke. In 2012, the ex-Manchester United captain gushed over his bromance with Harry and his brother, Prince William.

“They’re two people who have grown up in the spotlight and the respect that I have for them, and that people in our country and all over the world have for them, is amazing,” David said in an interview. “I have a huge amount of respect for William and Harry because of what they’ve been through from a very young age.”

“They’re a credit obviously to their mom and everyone in the royal family,” he added.

Victoria and her husband David Beckham welcomed Brooklyn back in March 1999, four months before they tied the knot at Luttrellstown Castle near Dublin. The four-month-old acted as a page boy, wearing matching ivory and purple outfits to his parents.

While the former Spice Girl and the former footballer opened up about the ups and downs of their love story – and the subsequent media storm – in the Netflix docuseries Beckham, Victoria went into more detail about her struggles after the birth of their first child in a recent interview.

She told Grazia that the media interest in her post-birth weight left her feeling insecure.

“I’ve had so much said about me and I’m sure that has robbed me of some experiences. I never want to look like I’m complaining, but there were times in the past that I haven’t felt confident enough to sit on a beach and watch my children play,” explained the mother-of-four, who also shares Romeo, Cruz and Harper with David.

She added: “I remember after I had Brooklyn, my first outing was on the front page of the newspaper, with arrows pointing to where I needed to lose weight.”

However, Victoria has also been able to share more happy memories with Brooklyn in recent years, including his 2022 wedding.

Brooklyn was reunited with his family on his big day, which took place at the Peltz family estate in Palm Beach. VB later gushed about the happy newlyweds on the Today show, stating:  “It was a beautiful wedding. As a mother, to see my son so happy means so much. What more can you ask for?”

She added her children “grow up so, so quickly” as she sweetly explained their close bond. “It’s all about communication and being present as a parent. I love to work, I love what I do in fashion and beauty. But being a parent, being a good mom, is my No. 1 job. But they’re amazing, they work hard, they’re good, sweet, kind human beings, and that’s what you want to do as a parent,” she said.

From the ’90s to Today, a Look at the Beckhams on the Fashion Week Front Row Through the Years

LONDON — David and Victoria Beckham have been attending fashion shows since the ‘90s when the couple started dating.

Simultaneously, David and Victoria were carving out their own style aesthetic with the Manchester United F.C. making headlines for his experimental hairstyles, meanwhile Victoria would always have the most expensive wardrobe as part of girl group Spice Girls.

In 1998, the couple attended Antonio Berardi’s spring show that kicked off David and Victoria becoming permanent fixtures on the front rows during New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks.

Victoria made her runway debut in 2000 at London Fashion Week for designer Maria Grachvogel’s show wearing a sleeveless green roll neck with moss green HotPants and brown knee-high boots. She closed the show in a strapless burgundy ruffle dress with a matching choker made out of rubies.

She sat front row at Dolce and Gabbana’s spring 2002 show during Milan Fashion Week wearing a pinstriped suit with lace gloves, pearl necklaces and a black beret.

“At some point, I would love to do sunglasses, and more tailored clothing. I’m working my way up and I’m really enjoying it,” Victoria told WWD in 2005 ahead of her collaboration and fashion show with Rock & Republic later that year held in Los Angeles.

As part of the Spice Girls, the group built a loyal relationship with Italian designer Roberto Cavalli. Victoria would often sit front row at his shows.

Victoria closed Roberto Cavalli’s men’s fall 2006 show in Paris wearing a white dress with a high slit featuring intricate embroidery.

“Paris is my favorite city in the whole world,” the singer-turned-designer told WWD in 2006, who at the time was working on her denim, kids’ and new menswear lines. When asked if she would ever dabble in couture, Victoria said, “Oh my God, that is so out of my league.”

Leading up to 2008 before Victoria debuted her own collection of dresses, she was attending as many fashion shows as possible, from Proenza Schouler’s spring 2007 show with Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher to the Yves Saint Laurent spring 2007 show in Paris with Katie Holmes.

The 10 looks she presented were tailored to the body, made with fabrics such as basket-weave cotton, fine gazar and georgette silks with touches of Indian embroidery and hand-sewn beading.

“The collection was inspired by the femininity and sophistication of the midcentury silhouette. I’ve always been drawn to intricate, seam-detailed designs, as their structure enhances the flattering shape of a woman’s silhouette,” Victoria explained to WWD in 2008.

Since the designer has been showing in numerous fashion cities, from New York to Paris, her family has become her biggest supporters on the front row, as well as attending shows outside of Victoria’s.

Each family member has slid into a corner of fashion. Romeo starred in Burberry’s festive campaign and film “From London With Love.”

Brooklyn, who tied the knot with Nicola Peltz two years ago, has been following in the footsteps of his parents by attending fashion shows together in coordinating outfits to Miu Miu, Givenchy, Mugler and Valentino shows.

Cruz and Harper, respectively, have been less shy in public in comparison to their siblings, but are always present at their mother’s fashion shows.

Inter Miami and St. Louis drew at 3-3, despite Messi’s record-breaking goal with a wonderful sidefoot from just inside the box, supplied by his good friend (and former Barca teammate) Jordi Alba.

It has taken Messi just 12 games this season to reach 12 goals and 13 assists by MLS’ counting, smashing the previous mark set by Carlos Vela in his 2019 MVP campaign.

Even with the draw, Miami (10-3-5, 35 points) took a two-point lead atop the Eastern Conference standings and in MLS overall, ahead of second-place Cincinnati (10-3-3, 33 points), which did not play Saturday.

But next week will see Messi joining Argentina to defend the Copa America title it won in 2021 when the eight-time Ballon d´Or winner tearfully lifted his first major trophy for his national team.

The former England captain speaks haltingly as if every well-chosen word requires careful extraction. It is what he doesn’t say, though, that dismays Rebecca.

It is almost 20 years since his former aide detonated a media frenzy like no other when she went public with details of their relationship. It didn’t draw much of a response from Beckham at the time. So not for a second did she think he would address the subject – albeit obliquely – after so long.

Yet attracting record-breaking viewing figures, Beckham’s self-titled Netflix series ‘tells the inside story of a global football star and cultural icon’ with no subject ‘off the table’ – even the affair. But as Rebecca notes, Beckham isn’t exactly put on the spot about it. Instead he is simply asked how he dealt with the ‘multiple tabloid stories’ it spawned.

Without referencing the liaison directly or admitting guilt – or indeed anything remotely inappropriate – Beckham, 48, says the stories were ‘horrible’ and left him ‘feeling sick every day’.

Rebecca, 47, shakes her head. ‘It’s all, “poor me”. He needs to take responsibility,’ she says, plaiting her fingers lest she might be tempted to punch the screen.

‘He can say whatever he likes of course and I understand he has an image to preserve, but he is portraying himself as the victim and he’s making me look like a liar, like I’ve made up these stories.

‘He is indirectly suggesting that I’m the one who has made Victoria suffer.’

In truth, she would have rather he hadn’t spoken at all about what was, for her, a life-changing episode. To her mind, it was buried.

Long since happily married with two children, she has lived for the past 14 years in blissful obscurity in Norway where she teaches yoga and works as a medical assistant. ‘It’s not like England here, it’s much less judgmental,’ she says. ‘I used to get people coming up to me in Waitrose, right in my face, taking pictures of me with their mobiles.

‘Here people are cool about it. They don’t care. Most of them [Norwegian friends] say, “Well, I was with a married man once and I did this…” It’s like everyone has done something at some point.’

Not with married men as famous as Beckham though. And few would have faced as much opprobrium as Rebecca, the privately-educated Spanish-born diplomat’s daughter dubbed a ‘sleazy senorita’ and portrayed as sex-obsessed. She doubts whether society would judge a woman ‘so harshly’ today.

Now, because of the documentary, she has been dragged back into the limelight. And despite living in the mountains, she is not beyond harassment, though reflecting different times, it now takes a new form – vicious trolling on social media.

Sitting in a quiet corner of a hotel in the centre of Oslo, Rebecca watches Beckham expressing wonder at how he and Victoria ‘got through’ the scandal and how he managed to drag himself to training with Real Madrid.

He laments the intense pressure placed on their marriage. And so the tightly-controlled film, made by his own production company, goes on, asking of Beckham no awkward questions but bathing him in a warm, sympathy-inducing glow.

Seeing his wife hurt, he says, was ‘incredibly difficult’. His eyes moisten. Rebecca has seen enough and turns away. This in fact is her second viewing.

‘Yes, the stories were horrible, but they’re true,’ she says. ‘He talks in the documentary about this ultimately being his private life, shutting it down.

‘I think it’s one thing to keep your private life to yourself. It’s another thing to mislead the public. And so many people had forgotten about all of this. So many people put all this behind them, this whole affair, the scandal and everything. And he’s dragged it back up again in a way that is affecting my reputation…

‘I think if he was going to touch on this time and how difficult it was, it would have been really nice for him to have said “it was not my proudest time”.

‘The worse bit for me is that he says he didn’t like seeing his wife suffer. That bothered me. Because he’s the one that’s caused the suffering. He could have simply said that this was a tough time and I don’t want to talk about it.

‘If you don’t want to take responsibility for things because of your family and your children that’s absolutely fine. And if he had just said it was a tough time for us and moved on I wouldn’t be here today.

‘But he specifically made it look like… my fault, that he had nothing to do with this.’

Let down, she believes, by both Beckham and the management company that employed her she sold her story – ‘it was coming out anyway so I thought I’d try to control it’ – to the now-defunct News of the World in April 2004.

Details of their brief liaison splintered the superstar’s scrupulously cultivated image.

Beckham was depicted as the paragon not just of football but of fidelity, the loving family man who exemplified 21st Century masculinity.

For a while the story reverberated across the world, posing an existential threat to Brand Beckham of which Posh Spice, of course, was the other half.

Only a few months earlier the midfielder had signed for Real Madrid and Rebecca, then 26, beautiful and unattached, was appointed his Girl Friday or client services manager as she was officially billed.

Since the age of 15, Beckham had spent his career safe in the bosom of Manchester United. Now alone in a strange city, 800 miles from Victoria and their two young sons, Brooklyn and Romeo, who remained in England, he was relying heavily on Rebecca who helped him navigate his new landscape.

‘He loved learning about Spanish culture, particularly food and wine,’ she recalls. ‘Once when he was under siege in his hotel I smuggled him out in the boot of my car because I wanted to show him the real Madrid.’ They visited bars in the trendy Chueca district ‘and we had the best croquetas in the city at a tapas place’.

In a short time, Beckham, she says, developed ‘a soft spot’ for her which was reciprocated. Sometimes he secretly tried to hold her hand as they motored through Madrid. And when they had lunch with the rest of his entourage he would, she says, press his sandalled toes against her own.

‘He singled me out, made me feel special,’ she says. Eventually the flirtation became sexual. On their first night together she says he seduced her. She recalls: ‘I remember turning to him and saying you’re so lucky, you can have whoever you want. And he looked me in the eyes and said, “I’ve never done this before.” I thought, “Wow”. I mean I foolishly fell for his lies.’

At this time, Rebecca was living at home with her parents, Leendert Willem Albert Loos and his Anglo-Spanish wife Elizabeth, who once corrected Brooklyn’s grammar when he asked her for ‘one of them apples’.

Rebecca says: ‘It was when they all visited [Victoria, David and the children] and she said, “Brooklyn, it’s one of those apples.”’

Laughing, she adds: ‘I said, “Mummy, you can’t say that! He’s my client”. She still corrects me about things to this day.

‘When I went home the day after sleeping with him [Beckham] for the first time, Mummy asked, “Where have you been? Where did you sleep?” And I just shrugged my shoulders. I didn’t say anything. But she knew. She just looked at me and said, “Be careful”.’

Despite her mother’s warning, no amount of care would prevent exposure of their secret. At this time Beckham was one of the most stalked and scrutinised men on the planet and, almost inevitably, photos emerged of the footballer and his assistant smooching in a nightclub.

Rebecca’s story was published several months later. Noticeably failing to deny the story outright, Beckham said at the time: ‘During the past few months I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life. What appeared this morning is just one further example.

‘The simple truth is that I am very happily married. I have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change these facts.’

It is worth noting that Rebecca has never made a secret of that fact that she has kept many of the sexually graphic messages they exchanged 20 years ago.

She says: ‘It took me a long time to decide whether to speak about this today… if I remain silent I will be known as the liar, the one who made up the stories. And I also have a family and I also have children and they also have Google and they can also watch documentaries. And I want them to know that their mother was brave enough to stand up against them and to stand up for the truth.

‘When I went public all those years ago I stuck precisely to facts and the truth, because I was this 26-year-old with no support behind me going up against the most powerful couple in the world who had PR people and lawyers, who had everyone behind them. If I had got the slightest thing wrong, they would have got me.’

Under the shepherding of PR guru Max Clifford, she later rode the reality television carousel and made a lot of money, although nowhere close to the £800,000 figure suggested at the time. All this seems a lifetime ago, she says.

Seeing Victoria on the documentary made her recall their first meeting. ‘They came over for the weekend – and stepped off the plane all dolled up like Barbie and Ken. They seemed really nice.

‘I went shopping with Victoria and we later hung out at the hotel together while David signed for Real Madrid. I remember her sharp sense of humour.

‘And I think she came across well on the Netflix documentary. She was very natural, very honest, very open. She had me laughing at one point. I can’t say the same for him.’

She had heard that a documentary was in the offing, but assumed it would concentrate only on Beckham’s football career. ‘I remember thinking, “Good for him, he’s a great player.”

‘I never once thought they would open up about their marriage. It went out on a Wednesday. So Thursday morning, I get up, had breakfast with the kids and checked my Instagram. I noticed I’d got a few hundred extra followers which happens from time to time. So I didn’t think much of it. I dropped the kids off at school and went to work.’

Then she began receiving calls from journalists seeking her reaction. ‘And then I suddenly realised something must have been said but I didn’t know what.

‘At home I went online and saw all the articles. I was really confused. Then I sat on the sofa and just watched that one episode and was, well shocked.’

Viewed from a distance of 20 years, her take on the affair hasn’t much altered. Then as now she feels ‘tremendous guilt’.

She says: ‘I was very sorry for what I had done and the way I handled it – but life’s biggest mistakes are the best lessons learned.’

Regrets are pointless, she says. It was never her intention to wreck the Beckhams’ marriage: ‘Never, ever, ever. I want people to be happy I want families to be happy. I don’t want to break things up.’

In any case, she adds, if she hadn’t had an affair she wouldn’t have taken part in a reality television series, the Dutch version of 71 Degrees North, where she met Norwegian Sven Christjar Skaiaa, a doctor on the show who later became her husband.

‘Things happen for a reason. And now I have a wonderful life with my incredible husband and children,’ she says.

It’s enough to spoil the duchess’s latest batch of strawberry jam.

New figures released by Netflix and obtained by DailyMail.com show that not only has viewer interest in Meghan and Harry fallen off a cliff, the couple has been well and truly eclipsed by the popularity of their former friends, David and Victoria Beckham.

Engagement figures for 2023, released last week, reveal that the Beckhams’ eponymous documentary hit the top spot for global viewing with a whopping 43.9million views between July and December last year.

In that same period Harry & Meghan’s Limited Series Volumes I and II, limped in with just 1.9million views and 12.6million total views across the year.

When it first aired in December 2022 the Duke and Duchess of Sussex¿s docuseries was an instant hit, giving Netflix its biggest debut with 81.6million hours viewed in the first four days. But, after an initial frenzy, figures began a steady slide as millions of viewers lost interest

When it first aired in December 2022 the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s docuseries was an instant hit, giving Netflix its biggest debut with 81.6million hours viewed in the first four days. But, after an initial frenzy, figures began a steady slide as millions of viewers lost interest and the series lost traction well before the sixth episode aired.

The show has now slumped to 211 on the streaming platform’s global chart while ‘Beckham’ is No. 1 with 3.5 times the viewing figures and 208.5million hours viewed in the first two months alone.

The disparity is perhaps due in part to the fact that fans who had tuned into Harry and Meghan’s docuseries hoping for insight and intimacy were instead left tired by their relentlessly, ‘woe is me’ tone. Viewers complained about the couple’s self-absorption and the fact that for all their enviable privilege they seemed to do nothing but bemoan their lot.

In stark contrast ‘Beckham’ was a show that left viewers uplifted by the Beckham’s family life, relationship and work ethic. Fans raved at the couple’s ‘resilience,’ and marveled at Beckham’s self-effacing grit and ambition.

This was a couple viewers could get behind, where Harry and Meghan were a couple viewers could leave behind.

In recent months there has been increased speculation that Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, could lose the $100million deal that they inked with Netflix back in 2020.

Aside from their flagging docuseries the couple’s much-vaunted Netflix deal has so far only produced two shows which, the latest figures show, have struggled to generate any interest at all.

‘Heart of Invictus,’ released in August 2023 and covering Prince Harry’s games for wounded warriors wheezed across the line with just 300,000 views in 2023.

‘Live to Lead,’ released in December 2022, about inspiring world leaders and featuring interviews with Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Gloria Steinem garnered just 800,000 views.

And when it comes to bang for their buck the Sussex’s with their $100million deal are a long way from keeping up with the Beckhams whose 43.9million views cost Netflix a comparatively modest $20million.

Coincidentally that is the size of the Spotify deal that Harry and Meghan lost when it fell apart in 2023 with just 12 episodes of Meghan’s ‘Archetypes’ podcast to show for it.

Speaking at the time Spotify’s Head of Podcast Innovation and Monetization, Bill Simmons, famously described the couple as ‘grifters,’ saying, ‘I wish I had been involved in the ‘Meghan and Harry leave Spotify’ negotiation. ‘ The F***ing Grifters.’ That’s the podcast we should have launched with them.’

Now, sources are speculating that their Netflix deal may be about to go the same way with Meghan’s cooking and lifestyle show and Harry’s documentary about polo being described as ‘padding,’ by some, while others ask what they have left to share now that their relationship with the rest of the royal family is all but over.

Harry and Meghan’s one-time close friendship with Victoria and David Beckham has similarly soured. The former Spice Girl turned clothes designer and her husband were guests at the Sussex’s wedding back in May 2018.

Meghan often wore Victoria’s designs with the older woman opening her little black book of UK stylists to her when she first set up home in the country.

Later, according to biographer Tom Bower, David, 49, and Victoria, 50, offered the couple refuge in their Los Angeles home when they were looking for a place in the States.

But according to Bower a telephone call from Harry to the former Manchester United star left Beckham ‘furious’ and effectively ended the once warm friendship.

According to Bower the royals were concerned that close friends were leaking stories about them to the press and Meghan particularly suspected Victoria. Harry called and repeated this accusation to Beckham and the rest, and the friendship, is history.

Now, to rub salt into the wounds of the Beckhams’ soaring popularity in the face of the Sussex’s decline, Beckham has probably spent more time with King Charles III than Harry has this year, as the former England captain has been announced as the newest ambassador to the King’s Foundation.

The King and the former footballer are now reportedly ‘bee-keeping buddies’ who have exchanged pots of honey from their respective hives in Highgrove and Oxfordshire as well as bee-keeping tips.

2013 – MEGHAN FIRST MEETS VICTORIA

In 2013, the then-actress Meghan gave the Victoria Beckham label a boost when she wore one of her dresses to a gala event at the New York Film Festival.

Lizzie Cundy, from the UK but now living in LA, claimed she was with Meghan at a party the first time she laid eyes on Posh Spice, causing the Duchess to ‘squeal’ with excitement.

Lizzie, who first interviewed Meghan, 41, in 2013 but hasn’t spoken to her in years, told the New York Post Meghan was left starstruck by Posh Spice the first time they met – which was the same time Ms Cundy first met the Duchess.

She told the New York Post that Meghan ‘squealed’ when she first met Victoria at a party in 2013.

‘Meghan was so thrilled with excitement to see Victoria Beckham. She went “Oh my God, that’s Victoria Beckham!”, Ms Cundy added.

She claimed the Duchess was a ‘proper big fan’ of Posh Spice, and recalled thinking Meghan needed to ‘calm down and be cool’ after first spotting her.

Victoria had her own connections to Prince Harry, first meeting him more than 20 years ago in November 1997 when they both visited South Africa.

They held hands — though it was said that schoolboy Harry’s favourite ‘Spice’ was Emma Bunton.

Meanwhile David Beckham and fun-loving Prince Harry had spent a lot of time together both doing charitable work and socialising.

There have been at least two big nights out in London together — one at the end of 2011 and one at the start of 2012, both at the Arts Club in Chelsea. By all accounts, both were heavy drinking sessions that lasted until around 3am.

David and Victoria also attended the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, in 2011, when Victoria was pregnant with Harper.

David said the following year: ‘We had to pinch ourselves when we got the invite. I’ve become friends with Prince William and Harry as well. We were brought up to love the Royal Family and, when Princess Di was around, the love for her was incredible.

‘And then you watch the lives of William and Harry and it’s kind of like the Truman Show, seeing them grow into young men.

‘It makes you proud to be English, watching them grow into the people they are today.’

David was involved in the Queen’s Young Leaders Award in 2016, which Prince Harry attended.

He was also part of the team bidding to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022 and travelled to Johannesburg with Prince Harry in 2010 to meet with Fifa officials.

David’s new passion for shooting — fostered by director Guy Ritchie — gives him even more in common with Harry.

In 2015, three of the Beckham children, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, were introduced to Prince Harry on the sidelines of a Unicef charity football match.

    2017 – A FRIENDSHIP DEVELOPS

Biographer Tom Bower told The Sun that David and Victoria showed kindness towards Meghan ever since she moved into Harry’s cottage in Kensington Palace in 2017

David and Victoria showed kindness towards Meghan ever since she moved into Harry’s cottage in Kensington Palace in 2017, the biographer Tom Bower told The Sun.

According to the Mail on Sunday, the couples bonded because Izzy May, David Beckham’s communications director, was friends with Markus Anderson, chief membership officer for private social club Soho House, who helped arrange Meghan’s secret dates with Harry.

Victoria, in what Mr Bower describes as an attempt to ‘build their relationship’, offered Meghan make-up advice.

A member of the designer’s staff is also understood to have helped Meghan with facials and hairdressing.

But the royal couple allegedly had a suspicion that the Beckhams leaked stories about Meghan’s help from Victoria to the press – a claim the former Spice Girl denied and left David reportedly feeling ‘absolutely bloody furious’.

The Beckhams also hosted Meghan in their six-bedroom house in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles before her marriage to Harry.

The couple’s staff tended to Meghan’s needs at no cost during her private visit to California, Mr Bower claimed.

Victoria at the time was reported to have been a kindly and constant influence, growing ever closer to Meghan.

By the time that Meghan and Prince Harry became engaged, she and Victoria were said to have ‘grown close’ and would ‘regularly text’.

Meghan also gave the designer her seal of approval by selecting a cashmere knit for one of her engagement portraits with Harry.

In 2018, it was being reported that their friendship had grown and that Meghan was in the habit of consulting Victoria about style.

Vanity Fair reported: ‘They get along well and have been in touch recently. Meghan really likes Victoria’s style and was keen to pick her brains about pulling together a working wardrobe.’

However Harry and Meghan then decided not to invite the Beckhams to their wedding dinner, despite the fact that they were asked to attend the marriage ceremony at St George’s Chapel.

Mr Bower claims the move was a ‘near-unforgivable insult’, citing that many Hollywood stars who attended the dinner ‘were not friends’.

But regardless of the alleged slight, David still accepted Harry’s invitation to attend the Invictus Games. He travelled to Sydney in October 2018 but then never even had face time with the Duke.

Mr Bower alleges that during this time Harry and Meghan had been regularly searching themselves on the internet to look for hateful comments about themselves.

He claims at that point Meghan was ‘not prepared to tolerate anything flattering regarding the Beckhams and the Games to appear in the media’.

David found the apparent move to keep him separated from Harry as ‘a bit strange’ but decided not to call the Prince about it, the biographer wrote, adding that he and Victoria ‘barely mentioned’ the slight during their stay at a rented house in North Shore, Sydney.

Regardless, the Beckhams seemingly tried to maintain a relationship with Harry and Meghan.

The couples were neighbours in Oxfordshire after the Beckhams built a home and Harry was renting a converted barn.

The biographer claims that while the men ‘occasionally meet at weekends’, Meghan had already ‘put on airs’.

In his biography, Tom alleged that the Duchess was frustrated that Spice Girl turned fashion designer Victoria was reluctant to supply her with free clothes and accessories from her label, despite the requests being against Palace rules.

Victoria lent Meghan a coat during the Christmas holidays, which the Duchess wore on Christmas day 2018 during a walk with the Royal Family to the church at Sandringham.

The former Spice Girl turned fashion designer later appeared on American talk show Live with Kelly and Ryan and admitted it came as a very pleasant surprise to see pregnant Meghan wearing an entire outfit from her line.

Speaking on the talk show, Victoria described The Duchess of Sussex’s decision to choose her designs at Christmas as an honour.

The mother-of-four said: ‘She looked so beautiful. It was such a lovely surprise to wake up to on Christmas morning.

‘You know, I think she’s such a beautiful, strong and wonderful woman – so it was a huge honour!’

The designer also produced a custom-made white coat and dress for Meghan in 2020 which she wore during her last appearance in Westminster Abbey in March that year.

But Meghan, who was pregnant at the time, endorsing Victoria’s label had little impact on sales, Mr Bower alleged.

He claims the only direct impact it had was that a £1,400 bag used by Meghan ‘sold out’ after being linked in a social media video.

The royal also wowed in a £950 turquoise figure-hugging dress as she made her first post-Megxit appearance at the Endeavour Awards in London alongside Prince Harry.

    2020 – RIFT OVER WILLIAM?

In February 2020, the former professional footballer spoke about how ‘he’s proud’ of his ‘amazing’ friend Prince Harry following his marriage to Meghan and the birth of their son, Archie.

David praised Harry for ‘growing up’ amid his decision to step back back as a senior royal and relocate to Canada.

‘I haven’t spoken to Harry about him moving,’ the sporting legend said, speaking to ET Online. ‘We speak as friends and that’s the most important thing for me.’

‘I think he’s enjoying being a young father for the first time and that’s what we always spoke about.’

David went on to say that he and Victoria were proud of the dad that Harry had become.

He said: ‘We love him and he’s an amazing person – and that’s the most important thing – but I’m proud to see him growing up as an individual and being that person that every father wants to be,’ he added.

Meanwhile it emerged later that year that Prince Harry and Meghan hired David and Victoria’s highly-rated former aide to join their Los Angeles team.

Mother-of-two Rebecca Mostow, 70, was brought in by the couple to help run their day-to-day lives in Beverly Hills, reports suggested at the time.

Ms Mostow previously worked for Prince and Seal and was employed by David Beckham after he started playing for LA Galaxy in 2007.

But as Harry and Meghan prepared to make their move to California and step away from royal life, the Beckhams refused to take sides in the alleged row between the Sussexes and Prince William and his wife Kate.

David and William are understood to have had a good relationships since England’s World Cup bid in 2010, which Mr Bower claims ‘annoyed the Sussexes’.

Their alleged distaste towards the Beckhams friendship with the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, was furthered last year when David flew from Qatar to Boston during the World Cup to help William and Kate with their philanthropic efforts.

American media highlighted the moment David kissed Kate on the cheek as she hosted the Earthshot prize ceremony alongside her husband.

The now Prince and Princess of Wales’ ceremony, which was attended by President Joe Biden, seemingly upstaged an event hosted by the Sussexes in New York that same weekend.

Reports in July 2020 stated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were at ‘the top of Victoria and David’s guestlist for their son Brooklyn’s wedding to Nicola Peltz.

Speculation ramped up when Spice Girl Mel B revealed Victoria and David were inviting their own friends to the big day.

Appearing on Lorraine in March 2022, Mel B confirmed she would be attending the event as she spoke about receiving her MBE, revealing: ‘I did actually ask her. I’m taking my mum and so I did say, ‘Can you dress me and my mum?’

‘I’m going to see her at her son’s wedding anyway. Yeah Victoria, it would be great!’

However Meghan and Harry were not guests at the wedding in April last year.

It’s unknown if the couple weren’t invited, or whether they were unable to attend the event.

Brooklyn tied-the-knot with actress Nicola on April 9 at her family’s oceanfront mansion in Palm Beach, Florida, which  is just a short flight from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $14 million Californian home.

    2023 – ACCUSATIONS OF LEAKING STORIES EMERGE…

In July, it emerged there was a suspicion the Beckhams may have leaked stories about the Sussexes, an accusation The Mail on Sunday was told left David ‘absolutely bloody furious’.

A source close to the Beckhams said: ‘David and Victoria went to Meghan and Harry’s wedding and were very supportive when Meghan arrived in the UK.’

But the accusations, which The Mail on Sunday has been told came in a tense phone call, fractured the Beckham friendship.

The source added: ‘Any making up now is so unlikely.’

Mr Bower says the spat was again furthered just weeks later when the Beckhams hosted a star-studded celebration after Lionel Messi scored a last-minute for David’s football team in Miami, Florida.

Meghan and Harry were reportedly not invited to the party, which is understood to have carried on for hours.

The biographer alleged that Meghan ‘pushed’ Victoria away over the last few years, adding that she may have done ‘much better’ with the British public if ‘she copied Victoria’ instead.

Meanwhile neither Victoria nor Meghan attended Inter Miami’s game last September – despite the Duchess of Sussexes’ name appearing on the list of expected guests.

Victoria Beckham, who has frequently attended Inter Miami’s games and brought along celebrity friends such as Kim Kardashian, was also not seen on the night.

And while Harry didn’t bump into Victoria at the match last night, the Beckham’s eldest son Brooklyn did have a run in with the Duke.

The Duke of Sussex was filmed being swept to his $9,000-a-night VIP suite by bodyguards before watching Los Angeles Football Club lose 3-1 to Messi’s side Inter Miami at the BMO Stadium.

The prince was cheered by crowds in the lobby as he passed straight by Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz, who did not meet his gaze despite the commotion.

Although it is not clear if the three stars saw one another, the footage has fuelled speculation of an ongoing feud between the Beckhams and the Sussexes.

2023 – DID CHARLES SNUB HARRY FOR BECKHAM MEETING?

In the latest twist in the tale, the Mail understands that King Charles met David to discuss his charitable foundation while Prince Harry was in the country this week.

The Duke of Sussex had said that his father was too busy attending to ‘various other priorities’ to see him while he was in Britain this week.

No pictures were released of the meeting and it is unknown where the pair met.

The revelation that the King met the former England captain, 49, while his son was home and attending an event two miles from Buckingham Palace may widen their rift further.

It could also add further pressure on the relationship between the Sussexes and the Beckhams, as it is claimed Harry had wanted to see his father.

Prince Harry’s visit was planned months in advance and while the King’s visit this week to a barracks was called a ‘surprise’, his diary is also tightly choreographed.

But the Duke of Sussex had reportedly invited his father to St Paul’s Cathedral for the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games although courtiers were not aware Harry had made any specific request to see the King.

The Palace has remained tight-lipped as to why the two never met despite virtually crossing each other’s paths.
