Queen Camilla fights back tears at poignant D-Day event with Charles and William

Queen Camilla appeared teary-eyed as she listened to veterans’ stories during a moving event in Portsmouth to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day alongside her husband King Charles and Prince William

Queen Camilla fought back the tears as she listened to a D-Day veteran remember the horrors of war during an emotional ceremony today.

Camilla joined her husband King Charles as well as Prince William at the 80th anniversay of D-Day commemorations in Portsmouth and both she and the monarch looked visibly moved as Navy veteran Eric Bateman recalled his experience on Utah beach during the landings in the Second World War.

He described how he and his comrades bravely jumped from boats after crossing the English Channel to land on the beaches of northern France, which proved to be the turning point in the allies’ Second World War victory. He said: “So many men and women, including my dear friend Fred, joined up with me but unfortunately never made it.” And it left Camilla visibly overcome with Charles also dabbing his eyes.

The royals joined leading UK politicians and veterans at the major event on the south coast of England, where both Charles and William addressed the crowd and mingled with veterans. And in footage captured showing William chatting to 100-year-old Geoffrey Weaving, the veteran sweetly asked him about the Princess of Wales, who was not at the commemorations as she continues her cancer recovery amid preventative chemotherapy treatment.

He asked William: “I was going to ask you if your wife was getting any better?” And William replied: “Yes… she would have loved to have been here today.” He added: “I was reminding everybody, her grandmother served at Bletchley so she would have had quite a bit in common with a few of the other ladies here who served at Bletchley but never spoke about it until the very end.” Kate’s paternal grandmother Valerie Glassborow, later Middleton, worked at the Second World War codebreaking centre and in 2014, the princess visited it to see where her grandmother would have once worked.

It came after the King paid tribute to the “courage, resilience and solidarity” as he addressed the crowd in Portsmouth. He added that veteran’s stories “cannot fail to move us, to inspire us and to remind us of what we owe to that great wartime generation”.

He explained: “It is our privilege to hear that testimony, but our role is not purely passive. It is our duty to ensure that we and future generations do not forget their service and their sacrifice in replacing tyranny with freedom.”

The King also praised the “truly collective effort” of those on the Home Front during the Second World War and said Britain today was ‘eternally’ indebted to those who served. His appearance at the event in Portsmouth was his first public speech and his most high-profile appearance since his cancer diagnosis.

Charles faced breezy conditions on stage as he spoke, with his speech notes blowing around in his hand. After event, Charles met with 21 veterans – with one sharing a joke with him and revealing that he had served on the same ship as the King’s father, the late Duke of Edinburgh.

In his programme notes for the event, he spoke of his “profound admiration and respect” for those who took part in D-Day, adding: “It remains our solemn duty to continue to honour the outstanding gallantry, service and sacrifice of those who took part in that perilous mission.”

Earlier, William read an extract from the diary of Captain Alastair Bannerman of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, a soldier who was part of D-Day, addressed to his wife on the morning of the landings.

He told the flag-waving crowd he was “deeply honoured” to be part of proceedings on Southsea Common and said “we will always remember those who served”. William wore medals during his address, including the Great Master of The Most Honourable Order of the Bath around his neck, Golden, Diamond and Platinum Jubilee medals and a coronation medal.

William said: “We will always remember those who served and those who waved them off. The mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters who watched their loved ones go into battle, unsure if they would ever return

“Today we remember the bravery of those who crossed this sea to liberate Europe. Those who ensured that Operation Overlord was a success. And those who waited for their safe return.” He said those who fought on D-Day “came from across our nation and from all walks of life to join in the fight against tyranny”. “Many of those that took up arms had never seen combat before, some were still only in their teens,” he added.

The official British commemoration for the 80th anniversary of D-Day will take place tomorrow at the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer, where the King will join French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

William will attend events in Normandy including a service hosted by Canada at Juno Beach and an international ceremony hosted by France at Omaha Beach which will be attended by more than 25 heads of state.

This is your future, Harry… having a selfie with fake royal like ‘Prince’ Mario-Max at minor bash with D-list crowd

IT is a photo that tells the tale of two princes – one a British royal who turned his back on his duties, the other a wannabe accused of exploiting his spurious connections for reality TV fame.

But royal watchers are now asking if Prince Harry and Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe, who posed for a selfie together at an awards bash this weekend, are really so different.

The pair met after Harry received an award for being a “Living Legend of Aviation”, joking on stage about his first time in a helicopter and beaming at the D-list crowd, which included Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, Miss Teen California Taliya Peiris and artist Mimi Stuart, who showed off a portrait of Harry in his Apache cockpit with the words: “He has a magnificent, big helmet.”

The royal was among very few famous faces at the £1,100-a-head ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Friday, the most high-profile being Jeff Bezos and John Travolta.

Other guests were decidedly lower rent — among them Prince Mario-Max, a controversial reality TV star whose connections to German royalty have regularly been questioned.

Royal expert Angela Levin, who spent 15 months with Harry while writing his biography, said: “It’s a very sad situation. Harry was once loved around the world and often named as the favourite royal, but now he’s very near the bottom.

“He is lost, he doesn’t know what he wants and it was a very desperate move to accept a ridiculous gong like this.

    Considerable backlash

“Harry looks foolish and it was a silly thing to do. He clearly wasn’t proud of himself because he crept in and out via the back door.

“There was no, ‘Here I am, amazing flying man Harry’. If you were happy you’d make a big entrance and exit. He hasn’t done that.”

His wife Meghan was due to attend the ceremony with him, but pulled out at the last minute, apparently because one of their children was unwell.

Attending alone, it would be fair for Harry to feel a little uncomfortable as he joined other Living Legends of Aviation winners, who include the first two men to set foot on the moon, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

Another of his fellow winners on the night was Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s fiancée Lauren Sanchez, who was honoured for running a company that offers an aerial filming service.

And Harry’s decision to accept the award brought considerable backlash from experts.

Among them was Baron West of Spithead, former First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff, who said it was “pathetic” and “nonsense” for organisers “to pick someone like Prince Harry”.

The royal spent ten years in military service as an Army helicopter co-pilot and gunner, including two tours of Afghanistan, yet for many the award seems unfounded.

Angela Levin went on: “It’s quite obvious to anyone that his career of flying, albeit in an Apache, doesn’t mean he can compare himself to people who have walked on the moon.

“It is unlikely he would have been given this award if it was not for the fact that he is a prince.”

If Harry is doomed to attending celebrity events purely on the basis of his title, then this fact was rather uncomfortably underlined when he was ambushed for a selfie by Prince Mario-Max.

Once dubbed the “King of Trash TV”, the German “royal” is “a negative human being who people laugh at”, according to Angela.

She said: “Prince Mario-Max just wants fame and is taking advantage of Harry.

“Is Harry too naive to realise he’s being seen with this impostor and taken for a ride?”

Mario-Max has often been accused of bringing the name of German royalty into disrepute by his apparent love of appearing on reality TV shows and attending red carpet events.

The 46-year-old inherited his “prince” title at the age of 31, after his adoptive mother Antonia married Prince Waldemar zu Schaumburg-Lippe in 2008.

Germany does not have an official royal family, but the House of Lippe, which once ruled over a number of small German states, maintains its aristocratic titles.

Mario-Max has been accused of “harvesting” the royal name “for personal gain” by the head of the family, Prince Alexander of Schaumburg-Lippe, who was outraged by his recent appearance alongside the Duke of Sussex.

He said: “It’s very painful for me. Prince Harry cannot stoop lower than appearing with him. I would advise him to stay away from this man.”

On social media, Mario-Max calls himself a “Royal and TV anchor”, while on his website he claims to have connections stretching back to William of Orange, which would make him a very distant cousin of the British royals.

It has been enough to launch his career in reality TV.

In 2011 he appeared in the US programme The Millionaire Matchmaker, where he boasted about his royal connections and longing for a woman with a “natural appearance . . .  not fake”.

Three years later he followed it with a stint on Germany’s Celebrity Big Brother, which lasted eight days before he was evicted, and a saucy comedy series called Travel Boobs.

He has regularly courted the media, initially making his name as a showbiz and royal reporter before promoting businesses including a “wealth elixir” which he flogged on a TV shopping channel.

Mario-Max’s Instagram page — where he has 42,900 followers — is full of photos from glitzy red carpet events and snaps with celebrities including Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga, Andrew Lloyd Webber and now Prince Harry.

After his encounter with the latter, he congratulated the duke on his award, writing: “VERY MUCH DESERVED” — yet online, unimpressed commenters have branded the event as “cringe” and “a joke”.

One user sniped: “Two irrelevant middle-aged men without serious pursuit using their titles to grift in superficial Hollywood.”

Another wrote: “Jesus! One is exploiting dead parent, the other dead step-parent, birds of the feather. This gave me second-hand embarrassment.”

Yet another said: “Hey Prince Mario — are you related to this faux prince? Harry has just joined this club. He is now a faux prince. A celebrity. Irrelevant.”

Harry may not have known who he was posing with, but experts say it is the sort of association that could prove damaging as the Sussexes try to build media careers.

It follows their £78million Netflix deal reportedly being at risk, Meghan’s podcast series with Spotify coming to an end and the TV show South Park publicly mocking them.

Brand expert Mark Borkowski said: “There’s a lack of strategic planning by Harry and being photographed with Mario-Max will have raised eyebrows.

“There was a profound tinge of desperation about his decision to accept the Living Legends award.

“There has been a huge amount of debate on this award from people in the aviation industry and among real heroes too.

“You have to be careful when you associate with an award or an event to make sure it has the credibility that matches your own. If not, it will tarnish your brand.

“Harry receiving this award will give a lot of ammunition to naysayers. It’s unlikely to derail someone of his stature, but he must take stock now.

“If you accept an award with no credibility, it attracts people looking for publicity and there are dangers of who you choose to align yourself with.

“Being involved in an event that’s faced so much criticism is not a good start to the year.

“The way he is working currently suggests it’s going to be a rocky old road for the equilibrium of his brand.”

Indeed, it seems that in events such as this one he may never find the inner peace he got from flying.

Accepting his award, he said: “For me, flying has been a transcendent experience.

“A close encounter with magic, an invitation to both protect freedom . . .  and to feel free, and funnily enough, an opportunity to ground oneself, without actually being grounded.”

He added: “Flying taught me the power of discipline, the power of patience and, beyond that, the power of trusting your gut.”

On the evidence of this weekend, it seems his gut might no longer be giving him the right advice.

In a stunning revelation, Meghan Markle has alleged that Prince William offered her and Prince Harry a path back into the good graces of the royal family, albeit with an extraordinary condition. According to Meghan, Prince William purportedly hinted at the possibility of restoring their lost privileges and status within the monarchy. However, this seemingly promising olive branch was contingent upon two remarkable actions.

According to her, "Instead of William taking the lead in reconciling with his younger brother, he privately suggested to me that he could aid our situation within the royal family, WITH ONE CONDITION." Meghan elaborates, "Prince William requested that I...Read full story."

Firstly, Meghan claims that Prince William insisted that Prince Harry publicly bow to him during his planned visit to the UK. Such a gesture would not only symbolize deference but also underscore a power dynamic that could reignite age-old tensions within the royal family.

Secondly, and perhaps even more astonishingly, Meghan suggests that Prince William demanded her acknowledgment that Princess Kate is superior to both her and Prince Harry. This demand not only challenges personal relationships within the family but also delves into the realm of public perception and royal hierarchy.

Meghan’s account portrays a complex web of power dynamics, personal animosities, and the weight of tradition within the royal family. The ultimatum presented by Prince William seems to offer a choice between submission to his terms or the potential dissolution of Meghan’s marriage to Prince Harry.

The gravity of these allegations cannot be overstated, as they not only cast a shadow over intra-family relationships but also raise questions about the future of the monarchy itself. As the royal family grapples with these claims, the world watches with bated breath, awaiting further developments in this unfolding saga.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle landed in Nigeria Friday morning to begin a three-day visit to the West African nation.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in Abuja, the capital city, following Harry’s brief visit to London earlier in the week.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit the Lightway Academy in Abuja, Nigeria.

The couple’s first engagement in Nigeria took place at the Lightway Academy, a school which receives support from their Archwell Foundation.

The royals were greeted at the school by dancers and they met some of the school’s younger students. They also spoke at the school about the importance of mental health and the need to talk to others about it.

“In some cases around the world, in more than you would believe, there is a stigma when it comes to mental health,” Harry said. Too many people don’t want to talk about it ‘cause it’s invisible. It’s something in our mind that we can’t see.”

“But guess what? Every single person in this room, the youngest, the oldest, every single person has mental health,” he continued. “So therefore, you have to look after yourself to be able to look after other people.” Harry also said “there is no shame” in acknowledging that you’re having a bad day.

“You see why I’m married to him?” Meghan said to cheers when she took the microphone from her husband.

The couple also spoke about their own children. Meghan said Lilibet, their 2-year-old daughter, had told recently remarked on seeing her own reflection in Meghan’s eyes, saying: “‘I see me in you.’” The princess said she’d “hung onto those words in a very different way” than the literal sense in which her daughter spoke them, telling the assembled students: “As I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well.”

Meghan also mentioned her son Archie when she was introduced to a 5-year-old at the school. “Our son Archie’s 5,” she said. “He turned 5 last week.”

The Sussexes were invited to Nigeria by General Christopher Musa, the country’s chief of defense staff. They’ll visit injured service members during the visit and promote the Invictus Games—the sporting event founded by Harry for injured military personnel and veterans.

PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle have sparked a diplomatic row after posing on a red carpet with Jamaican leaders who want to ditch the Royal Family.

The duke and duchess – who have trashed the royals since quitting for the US – were all smiles while King Charles has been ordered to “slow down” after his hospital scare and Princess Kate is off until April after major abdominal surgery.

Jamaica is one of 14 non-UK realms – including Canada, Australia and New Zealand – where the unwell King is head of state.

Harry and Meg put on a loved-up display on the red carpet for the premiere of Bob Marley film One Love.

They posed for snaps with Marlene Malahoo Forte, Jamaica’s minister for legal and constitutional affairs, who last year vowed to “sever ties” between Jamaica and the monarchy.

In January, she said the government would bring a Bill to Parliament in April to remove the King, 75, who has been ordered by wife Camilla “slow down” amid his health scare.

The couple also posed for photos with PM Andrew Holness, who ambushed Kate and William on their ill-fated Caribbean tour in 2022 to say the island nation is “moving on”.

It was the second glitzy outing for Harry in days after he hung out with celebs such as John Travolta when he picked up a Legends of Aviation gong at a Hollywood gala.

The Royal Family insist it is up to the people living in Realms to determine if they wish to leave.

The then-Prince Charles attended the transition of Barbados to a republic in 2021.

He remains Head of State of of 15 Realms including Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and the United Kingdom.

There are no plans for Jamaica to leave the Commonwealth which is a voluntary association of 56 independent countries and has been growing every year and includes non-Empire nations such as Togo and Rwanda.

    PAST ABUSES

The late Queen axed Harry and Meghan from their Commonwealth role after outspoken comments, and their Netflix series was slammed by historians after it claimed the free association of nations was “Empire 2.0”.

Harry and Meg waded into the debate just weeks after Megxit saying the Commonwealth must acknowledge its “uncomfortable” past and said “change is needed and it’s coming”.

They were speaking in a video chat to the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust (QMT) in 2020 and hailed the global Black Lives Matter protests as a “moment of reckoning” for those who committed past abuses and said the movement should continue for “as long as it takes”.

Several months later the late Queen removed their role as ambassador and president of the youth charity.

Harry, who has previously apologised after wearing a Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party, calling an Army colleague “our little P*** friend” and telling another “you look a raghead”, has accused the Royal Family of racism.

We can’t deny or ignore the fact that all of us have been brought up and educated to see a world differently

    Prince Harry

In the 2020 video chat, Harry said: “Certainly when you look across the Commonwealth there is no way we can move forward unless we acknowledge the past.

“And I think so many people have done such an amazing and incredible job, I mean, acknowledging the past and trying to right those wrongs.

“But I think we all acknowledge on here that there is still so much more still to do.

“It’s not gonna be easy and in some cases it’s not going to be comfortable but it needs to be done because, guess what, everybody benefits.

“When it comes to institutional systemic racism, it’s there and it stays there, because someone somewhere is benefiting from it.

“We can’t deny or ignore the fact that all of us have been brought up and educated to see a world differently.”

Slavery was abhorrent and it never should have happened

    Prince William

Meghan said: “We have to say in this moment and time we are going to have to be a little uncomfortable right now because only in pushing through that discomfort that we get to the other side of this.”

The couple’s Harry & Meghan six-part series as part of their £100m Netflix deal was blasted for tarnishing the late Queen’s Commonwealth legacy.

One contributor to the programme, the writer and broadcaster Afua Hirsch, called the Commonwealth “Empire 2.0”.

    Calls to scrap monarchy

JAMAICA has launched plans to ditch King Charles as its Head of State.

Caribbean neighbour Barbados became a republic with an elected head of state in 2021 – sparking calls for Jamaica to follow suit.

The island’s parliament will vote in April whether to scrap ties with the British monarchy.

Jamaica’s PM Andrew Holness told William and Kate the country was “moving on” from the monarchy during their controversial 2022 visit.

Many Jamaicans demanded that the royal family apologise for its alleged role in the slave trade and pay reparations.

Prince William spoke of his “profound sorrow” about slavery during the trip, stopping short of an apology.

But he and Kate were slammed for shaking hands with children through a wire-mesh fence on the “tone-deaf” trip.

At the time, Minister for Legal Affairs Marlene Malahoo Forte said: “Every colonial nation has its time when it must reconsider its arrangements.

“I don’t think any issue should have taken the royal highnesses by surprise.

    “They have been warmly welcomed.”

While the academic and author Professor Kehinde Andrews said: “It’s not changed a thing, they’ve just got better PR.

“If you look at the black people in the Commonwealth, well their conditions are almost just as bad as they were 50 or 100 years ago.”

Their words were interspersed with footage of the Queen broadcasting to the Empire in 1947 and her speech at the Commonwealth summit in London in 2018.

When William addressed Jamaica’s politicians at a black tie dinner in the country on his ill-fated trip two years ago he expressed “profound sorrow” for the “appalling atrocity of slavery”.

He said: “Slavery was abhorrent and it never should have happened.

“I strongly agree with my father, the Prince of Wales, who said in Barbados last year that the appalling atrocity of slavery forever stains our history.”

Prince Harry is said to harbour resentment against King Charles

Prince Harry is believed to harbour negative feelings about King Charles’ decision to evict his family from Frogmore Cottage.

The Duke of Sussex was asked to vacate the private residence in the UK, where he lived with wife Meghan Markle and kids, two months after the release of his memoir Spare last year

Speaking to The Mirror, royal expert Tom Quinn suggest the prince was enraged at the 75-year-old monarch for stripping him off a safe place in case of his return to his home country.

He also claimed Harry likes to portray himself as an “eternal victim” to royal family’s purported attacks.

“Harry took it as a cruel rejection – a painful reminder of all that he felt when his father fought with his mother during their long drawn out, painful divorce,” shared Tom.

“Whenever Charles puts his foot down, it seems unfair to Harry who feels that after everything that has happened to him, he should always get whatever he wants whether that be security paid for by the British taxpayer or a luxurious UK home,” the royal expert explained.

Meghan Markle’s pal brutally mocked Princess Kate for missing Princess Lilibet’s birthday

Meghan Markle’s friend brutally mocked Kate, Princess of Wales for missing Princess Lilibet’s third birthday.

Lilibet, who is thought to have only visited the UK once, is celebrating her third birthday today, June 4.

However, in celebration of her first birthday two years ago, a friend of Meghan’s previously said that it was “shady” of Kate to miss out on her niece’s special day.

Garcelle Beauvais, a star on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, previously shared her thoughts on Kate’s absence from Lilibet’s birthday.

Speaking to E!, Ms Beauvais said: “What’s going on is, ‘What a coincidence, we’re out of town, I’m washing my hair’. There’s a little shade there.”

The criticism came after both William and Kate missed the celebrations, even though the pair were overseeing concert rehearsals at Cardiff Castle to mark the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at the time.

The actress, after being asked if they could have been powerless to work against the pre-ordained schedule, hit back: “No. They can’t hold back the flight a couple of hours to meet Lilibet and Archie?”

Lilibet is thought to have travelled to the UK a few days before her first birthday for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Harry and Meghan made the decision to bring along their two children – including now-five-year-old son Archie – to join in the celebrations.

Although Meghan and Harry were seen at a few celebrations to mark the late Queen’s historic anniversary, Archie and Lilibet didn’t make any public appearances

To mark their daughter’s birthday, Meghan and Harry are thought to have hosted a small gathering at their former UK base, Frogmore Cottage.

Kate and William’s three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 – also didn’t appear at their cousin’s party. King Charles and Queen Camilla also did not attend Lilibet’s first birthday celebrations.

Following Lilibet’s birthday, a picture of the adorable tot was publicly released – one that was thought to have been taken at her party in the UK.

According to PEOPLE!, Meghan and Harry hosted a party at their Californian mansion over the weekend to mark Lilibet’s third birthday.

THE ex-nanny who was hired to look after Prince Archie by Harry and Meghan has revealed that she had a “surprising” first meeting with the couple before she started her duties.

The paediatric nurse and consultant, Lorren Khumalo, was employed by the Sussexes to look after their first child just months after he was born.

At the time, the couple were residing at Frogmore Cottage, with their son, ahead of their announcement that they were stepping down from working royal life to move to the US.

In a recent interview, the ex-nanny opened up about the day she first visited Frogmore to meet Harry and Meghan for the first time.

She explained that not only did she get a speeding ticket on her way there, but she was also put at ease by a very informal greeting from Harry.

Lorren also claimed that Harry was ‘barefoot’ and the house felt very ‘normal’.

Speaking on an episode of The Breakfast Club with Zenzele Ndebele, she said: “I thought to myself, ‘I wonder how their nannies look, do they wear heels?’

Prince William has got a Norland Nanny, so they’ve got a brown uniform that for my skin colour and the way it looks in khaki brown, I knew it wouldn’t even go, it would just not work.

“So I [thought] I’ll wear something dark and nice kitten heels but I’ll look presentable for a royal so I need to do my best. But I didn’t use any make-up, I said if they take me, they take me as I am.

“I wasn’t born with a silver spoon, I’m not blue blood, I will go as I am and trust me with my God, I’ll get this job.”

Lorren then revealed that she was caught driving “too fast” on her way to meeting the Sussexes.

She added: “So I got there and there’s lots of checks that they do but when I got there I expected to see a princely somebody, in those very expensive German, Swiss suits or something.

“He was in his jeans, in a t-shirt, walking barefoot because it was hot.

“I just felt so comfortable, it wasn’t as formal as I expected it to be, it was just a normal home.”

“And I kept asking his PPO, so his protection officer, ‘Do I curtsy, do I have to?’

“And he just looked at me and laughed and he said, ‘You’ll see, Prince Harry is amazing’.

“When I got there, the way he opened his arms ‘Hello Lorren!’ and gave me a hug.

“[I thought] ‘Wow, what a gentleman, what a gem’, oh my goodness, I couldn’t believe it.”

Lorren also spoke highly of Meghan and explained that the meeting was nowhere near as formal as she initially thought.

She continued: “And when I walked in and saw Meghan I thought ‘My God, what a beautiful woman’.

“I just felt so comfortable, it wasn’t as formal as I expected it to be, it was just a normal home.”

Why Prince Harry Sought Kate Middleton’s Approval Before Marrying Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton appear to have become closer in the last couple months, doing their first event together 11 days ago at Wimbledon. But royal reporter Katie Nicholl just revealed new details to Grazia UK on the two’s growing friendship and how before Prince Harry put a ring on it, Meghan was Kate Middleton-approved.

The two first met in November 2016, four months after Harry started dating Meghan and when he realized that things were getting serious with her. The first meeting was a “success.”

“Harry and Kate are very close, she’s been like a mentor to him and he wanted her seal of approval,” a source told Nicholl. “Kate is different to Meghan in many ways, but she has made great strides to help Meghan settle in.”

Nicholl previously reported that Kate had played matchmaker for Harry during his bachelor days. “Harry wasn’t giving up [after things ended with exes Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas], even going on blind dates organized by Kate and his cousin Princess Eugenie, who had a good track record when it came to setting Harry up,” she wrote (via E!).

Nicholl’s source described Kate and Meghan’s friendship these day as “still slowly blossoming. Kate has gone out of her way to be friendly to Meghan, and Meghan has been very grateful for that.”

Kate doesn’t feel threatened by Meghan joining the family or her popularity at events. As Nicholl writes, “Friends say that she is thrilled that the spotlight isn’t on her at a time when she wants to enjoy being with her family and remain relatively low-key.”

Princess Sophie could be in for a new honour from King Charles for her ungrudging contributions to the throne.

According to royal historian, Marlene Koenig, the 75-year-old monarch could confer the Duchess of Edinburgh the honour of a Lady of the Garter in the coming months. The presumptions comes after it was revealed Charles has named four new additions to the Order of the Garter.

King Charles III breaks the royal traditions by honouring Princess Sophie

Among the four will be Brigitte, the Duchess of Gloucester, the wife of Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, whom Koenig revealed is the “first spouse of a royal prince in modern times to be given the Garter.”

“I think it’s way cool that Charles has made this change, giving this to someone who has served the crown, and she and her husband were never meant to have a full-time royal career,” she told the Daily Express.

At the end, Marlene noted: “This is another new change the king has implemented, and I think we’ll see more of that in another few years.”

According to the royal historian, the late Queen Elizabeth initially wanted her daughter Princess Anne to be a Lady of the Garter, however, the Princess Royal “wanted to be a Knight of the Garter.”

For the unversed, the Order of the Garter is the oldest order of Chivalry in the UK, which goes back to Edward III.
