Meghan Markle faces heartbreak as she misses out on Mother’s Day while on Nigeria tour

Meghan Markle faces heartbreak this weekend as she misses out on Mother’s Day in the United States while in Nigeria on tour with her husband Prince Harry

Meghan Markle is facing a heartbreaking weekend as she misses out on Mother’s Day with her two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are proud parents to two young children, are currently in Nigeria for their “unofficial royal tour”. The former senior royals touched down in the West African country in the early hours of Friday morning, with them now embarking on day two of their 72-hour brief visit.

Their trip to West Africa comes after Harry’s brief visit to the United Kingdom when he flew to his former country of residence the day after his son, Prince Archie, turned five, for an Invictus Games event. And now, after likely cutting Archie’s birthday celebrations short, the family will celebrate Mother’s Day apart due to Harry and Meghan being in Nigeria, and Archie and Lili being in Montecito, California.

Although Mother’s Day took place earlier this year in the United Kingdom, in the United States, which is where Meghan hails from and where the Sussexes reside with their young family, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May.

According to reports, Archie, five, and Lilibet, two, are currently staying with their maternal grandmother Doria Ragland. But despite Meghan being apart from her two children, she has mentioned them while giving talks in Nigeria.

The Duchess of Sussex spoke about Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie after joining schoolchildren taking part in a song and dance session on day one of her and Prince Harry’s tour of Nigeria. The couple joined in with a riotous version of “jump up, turn around” alongside kids from Abuja’s Lightway Academy, before Meghan told them: “We’re so honoured to be with you. We have got to acknowledge those amazing dance moves! My husband was excited to jump up!”

After Harry, 39, asked pupils: “Is singing and dancing your favourite class?”, former Suits star Meghan said: “That’s Lili’s favourite class…maybe it’s all the jumping around!”

Loose Women’s Denise Welch shows off ageless figure in plunging swimsuit as she shrugs off Ofcom row

Former Coronation Street star Denise Welch, 63, has been soaking up the sun in Greece after her ITV show Loose Women was hit with hundreds of Ofcom complaints

Loose Women star Denise Welch didn’t let recent Ofcom complaints dampen her spirits as she showcased her fabulous figure in a form-fitting swimsuit. The TV host jetted off to Greece for some sunshine, just days after it was revealed that the broadcasting watchdog had received 263 complaints about a discussion on the Royal Family on her ITV show.

She appeared to have left all the drama behind as she struck a pose on deck and made the most of her time away from the spotlight. Documenting her holiday on social media, an Instagram snap showed Denise in a daring black swimming costume with a dramatic plunge neckline. Sporting black wedges and striking a pose with one knee bent on the back of a chair, she looked stunning.

The star had painted her nails red to match her lipstick and looked incredibly glamorous and significantly younger than her 65 years as she threw her head back and rested one hand on her stomach. “Yes it’s the perch comfortably on the edge of the chair moment! ! ” she joked, adding the hashtag “#rhodes” to her post.

“Hot mumma,” one fan labelled the TV presenter after she posted the sizzling image, while another called Denise a “stunner”. “You are the most beautiful Queen of The Ocean,” gushed another fan, as others flooded the comments with fire emojis, reports the Daily Star. One follower wrote: “You never miss Denise! This pose is everything.” “Omg you look so slinky… wish I looked like this,” confessed another. Another fan dubbed the TV star “a babe”. “Oh my goodness Denise, you look lush hun! ! ! ” exclaimed another admirer.

Loose Women faced a backlash from viewers following an episode that aired on May 6, which saw Denise defending Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, leading to a heated exchange with guest Dickie Arbiter, the former press secretary to the late Queen and King Charles.

In the conversation, Dickie brought up Harry’s memoir, Spare, and stated: “[Prince] Harry has been rubbishing the family since he walked out in 2020.”

Then he has a wife who is continually trashed by the media, including your good self, if I may say – when she is on a world stage, doing a lot of good for a lot of people. I am just sick to death of the bashing that this woman gets.”

Following the influx of complaints, Denise took to Instagram to express her support for Meghan, stating she was “appalled that this woman is abused and berated by the public and media on a daily basis”. “Not many people could mentally cope with the hate she contends with,” she added. “No wonder her husband took her away and despite everything they are thriving. Their reception in Nigeria has been wonderful to see. She concluded: “Last week I defended them against one of their detractors on TV and received 103 complaints from Ofcom! ! ! Good. Also utterly pathetic.”

  • Eamonn Holmes ‘could lose beloved dog Maggie as wife Ruth Langsford to receive custody’

Eamonn Holmes ‘could lose beloved dog Maggie as wife Ruth Langsford to receive custody’

Reports have suggested that Ruth Langsford could win full custody of the dog she shares with soon-to-be ex-husband Eamonn Holmes after their divorce plans were revealed

Eamonn Holmes is facing even more heartache following his shock split from wife Ruth Langsford – as he is tipped to lose access to their pet dog.

Fans of the 64-year-old GB News presenter and wife of 14-years Ruth, also 64, were stunned this Bank Holiday weekend as new broke their marriage is over. Even more shocking are reports that the couple called time on their relationship two years ago but kept the break-up a closely guarded secret.

Now reports have suggested that Ruth will take 14-year-old dog Maggie with her following the split, leaving Eamonn dogless. While Eamonn and Ruth are parents to 22-year-old son Jack, they are believed to consider Maggie as being like a second child.

Taking to social media on Sunday in the aftermath of the bombshell split news, Ruth shared a short clip of herself walking the Collie cross along a stretch of grass. Friends have claimed Eamonn and Ruth are set to face “difficult conversations” about who should have custody of the pet.

Reports have suggested Eamon Holmes’s recent health issues could make Ruth Langsford a more suitable owner for Maggie

A source told The Sun that Eamonn’s recent health issues could have an impact on who keeps the dog, claiming: “Maggie is like a daughter to them. They dote on her. But she’s getting on and they know she needs stability. It’s a case of who can give her that. Eamonn adores her and Maggie’s been such a support during his health woes.

“The thought of giving her up is heartbreaking to him. But if Ruth is able to get out and about and walk her more, then it may well be that she gets Maggie in the split.”

The source went on to express hopes that the pair won’t need to resort to involving lawyers over who gets to keep the pooch. The Mirror has approached a spokesperson of the couple for comment.

Eamonn and Ruth announced the end of their marriage on Saturday – leaving fans gobsmacked. They released a joint statement which read: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

Ruth is expected to take time away from Loose Women while shockwaves of the divorce continue to make headlines. A source revealed on Sunday: “Ruth is choosing to stay off air a little longer – at least for a week. Her husband, however, is said to be gearing up to tell all about his second divorce when he returns to GB News on Monday.”

Eamonn, however, is scheduled to return to his GB News morning show, titled GB News’ Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel, on Tuesday morning. A spokesperson for the channel told the Mirror on Monday that Eamonn would reprise his role on the show “after the bank holiday.”

  • Why Prince Harry won’t be at pal Duke of Westminster’s wedding today

Why Prince Harry won’t be at pal Duke of Westminster’s wedding today

An insider has reportedly shed light into what’s gone behind the scenes between Prince Harry and his friend the Duke of Westminster, ahead of his wedding on Friday.

Harry and William’s potential reunion discussed by Schofield

Prince Harry did receive a wedding invite to the Duke of Westminster’s lavish wedding tomorrow but declined after both parties recognised the “challenges of his attendance”, a source has claimed.

The seventh Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor, is marrying Olivia Grace Henson at what has been so far dubbed the society wedding of the year.

The extravagant ceremony is set to take place on Friday, June 7, at Chester Cathedral.

It will be attended by 400 guests, including Prince William who, as well as Harry, is a long-standing friend of the duke – crowned the richest man in Britain under 40.

The Prince of Wales is set to be an usher during Friday’s event, which could have seen the heir to the throne show his brother his seat, despite neither of them being on “speaking terms”.

Now according to People magazine, there was an “acknowledgement on both sides that it would be difficult for Harry to attend”.

The outlet claimed it could “confirm” the Duke of Sussex did receive an invite, however after having a conversation with Hugh, a source said that there was an “understanding between the two friends” that he wouldn’t attend.

An insider close to the bride and groom told People that Harry and the Duke of Westminster “mutually made the agreement”.

A source added that Harry had sent “his love and support and admiration for the couple” for their wedding day.

Meanwhile, the magazine claimed that “the decision certainly avoided the inevitable clamour had estranged brothers Prince William, 41, and Prince Harry both attended the nuptials, eliminating the possibility of the big day being overshadowed for the couple.”

It comes as another three key royals are set to miss Friday’s wedding.

The Princess of Wales is not expected to be in attendance as she undergoes preventative chemotherapy for an undisclosed type of cancer.

King Charles, who is also undergoing cancer treatment but has resumed his duties will miss out on the celebrations as he and Queen Camilla will only have just returned from a busy day of engagements in Normandy.

Bizarre rule that means Meghan Markle ‘would be a princess’ if stripped of Sussex title

Meghan Markle would have been styled something completely different had she not been given the Duchess of Sussex title.

Meghan Markle would have been styled something completely different had she not been given the Duchess of Sussex title.

Meghan Markle would be titled princess if she were to lose her duchess title, a royal commentator has claimed.

They claimed that the Duchess of Sussex would be styled as Princess Henry if Prince Harry was stripped of his current title by his father, King Charles.

Technically, women who are married to a British prince are subsequently styled with their husband’s names, like Princess Michael of Kent, who adopted the feminine form of her husband’s name because he does not hold another title.

Harry can’t be stripped of his prince title as it’s his birthright unless done so after an act of Parliament, thus Meghan would be known as Princess Henry if she did not have the Duchess title.

Now royal experts are divided over whether such a change would benefit Meghan’s business aspirations.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield recently told Fox News: “A lot of us feel like Harry and Meghan take advantage of their titles and would like to see them stripped of them, but that’s not a conversation that has happened between King Charles and Prince William in years.

“Technically, Charles and William know this, if you strip Harry and Meghan of the Duke and Duchess title… they would revert to being Prince and Princess Henry. The prince title cannot be removed. That is Harry’s birthright. It would take an act of Parliament and that is simply not a priority for them at this time.”

The expert added that if the Sussexes used the prince and princess titles in the US that would make them “more marketable”.

However, US-based journalist Lee Cohen did not agree and claimed such a change could have consequences for Meghan.

He told GBN America: “What a bitter pill for an arch-feminist like Meghan to have to carry around her husband’s name if she chose to deploy her title.”

Meanwhile, royal commentator Ingrid Seward dismissed any claims of the pair losing their titles saying: “I don’t think anything will happen to the titles because, if they lose their titles, Harry is still a prince of the blood and Meghan instead of being the Duchess of Sussex, [would] be Princess Henry.

“That really would [confuse the Americans]. I think [it’s] probably best just to leave it because it looks unkind, it looks unnecessary.”

Meghan Markle ‘wants answers’ from King Charles amid ‘confusion’, says royal expert

The Duchess Of Sussex Meghan Markle has reportedly attempted to have a meeting scheduled with King Charles III so she can challenge him on the rules she has to follow as a former Royal

Meghan Markle reportedly “wants answers” from King Charles about use of her royal title an expert has claimed.

Royal commentator Neil Sean has made claims that both Meghan and Prince Harry “don’t understand why” they have been subjected to different rules to other members of the Royal Family despite stepping away from their official duties nearly four years ago. The couple’s bid to also become financially independent from the Royals saw them sign multimillion-dollar contracts with Netflix and Spotify.

But now according to Neil, Meghan has questions she wants the King to answer and has allegedly even tried to arrange a meeting with him to discuss key issues she has found prominent since she joined the family. Speaking on his YouTube channel he said: ” Meghan Markle wants some answers from His Majesty the King. She tried to set up a meeting with him, she sent him a letter and wanted a one to one to explain exactly the problems she’s encountered ever since becoming a member of the British monarchy.”

He continued: “The thing that really riles Meghan is that Fergie pops up on things like the ITV daytime show This Morning, Loose Women and billing herself as the Duchess of York, selling books and possibly doing adverts all under the Royal Family. Meghan and Harry seemingly don’t understand why it’s a different rule for her.”

Neil’s dialogue comes after reports Meghan allegedly has plans to write a book about her life much the same as her mother-in-law Princess Diana did when she released Diana: Her True Story in Her Own Words. The novel would be expected to not only cover her glamorous life in Hollywood but also her time spent in the Royal Family and details of all of the arguments and drama.

The book is rumoured to be part of the four-book deal she and Harry signed with publishers Penguin Random House. The same deal saw Harry release his hard-hitting memoir Spare at the start of 2023. The couple are also expected to release a ‘wellness’ offering.

A Hollywood agent told The Mail on Sunday: “I would find it surprising if Meghan didn’t publish her own story, to be honest. Spare is clearly Prince Harry’s chance to tell his, but hers is equally compelling. I mean, how many actresses end up marrying a Prince? If she’s harbouring political ambitions it would make even more sense.”

  • EXCLUSIVE: Prince Harry ‘looking on with sadness’ as Charles and William shine at D-Day event – expert

EXCLUSIVE: Prince Harry ‘looking on with sadness’ as Charles and William shine at D-Day event – expert

Nearly all members of the Royal Family, including King Charles and Prince William, will be at events today and tomorrow commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day – but Prince Harry will not be among them

Prince Harry will be looking on with some sadness after his royal relatives gathered for events to commemorate D-Day, according to an expert.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the pivotal moment in the Second World War and like at most military commemorations, there will be a large royal presence. Today, King Charles joined his son Prince William at the UK’s national commemorative event in Portsmouth before they both head off for events in France on Thursday.

Of course, there will be no sign of Harry, who quit his working royal role four years ago and now lives in California amid a bitter feud with his father and brother. Harry himself is an Army veteran, having seen active service on tours of duty in Afghanistan.

And royal historian and expert Dr Tessa Dunlop believes Harry will be the missing link at the commemorations, especially given his strong military background. She told the Mirror: “Once upon a time Prince Harry was a regular fixture at D-Day commemorations.

“His particular blend of emotional intelligence and military experience meant he always got the most out of the WWII veterans. In 2016 he famously wished a couple of nonagenarians well before their annual pilgrimage to Normandy, telling them how much he respected their actions on the beaches, then cheekily adding ‘don’t get into trouble and if you do, don’t get caught!”

“A few of those D-Day veterans are still alive and will be in France for this year’s 80th anniversary commemorations. Also paying their respects at Britain’s Normandy Memorial will be the King, on his first overseas trip since cancer treatment, and Queen Camilla. Meanwhile, the Canadian commemorative ceremony at Juno Beach will be attended by the Prince of Wales.

“It is a busy week for this royal trio, with Charles and Camilla attending a national memorial service and light show in Portsmouth before setting off for France. Of course, the missing link in all of this is Harry, a veteran and a respected name in military circles courtesy of his Afghanistan tours and Invictus Games success story.

“For the Duke of Sussex, looking on from the other side of the Atlantic, there will be some sadness. War is raging in the East of Europe right now and the Duke knows his presence not only captures headlines and boosts the Sussex brand, but helps tie war stories from the past to those in the present day.

“Likewise it is a loss for the Royal Family. The ageing King and Camilla with dutiful William know the drill but lack the pizzazz and lived frontline experience that these events thrive on.”

However, Tessa added that when it comes to the commemorations, it’s not the royals but the veterans themselves, who are the real stars of the show. She explained: “To view D-Day commemorative events through a royal prism is perhaps the wrong approach. As long as a few brave veterans can make those beaches, they are the real stars of the show. The royals, along with the rest of us, can only bow our heads in gratitude. Harry or no Harry, this is living history at its best.”

Royal Family’s rollercoaster year – Harry’s Spare, Charles ‘revenge’ and race row names

The past 12 months have certainly been jam-packed with ups and downs for the likes of King Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry after contending with evictions, title rows and the historic Coronation

There’s never a dull moment when it comes to the Royal Family – and it seems 2023 has well and truly proved that is the case.

The past 12 months have seen the Firm experience some tremendous highs including the historic Coronation of King Charles, as well as some tense lows and even more bombshells launched by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. And as the royals prepare to put 2023 behind them and usher in the brand new year, here we look at the last tumultuous year for the likes of the Prince and Princess of Wales as well as Harry and Meghan…

    Bombshell New Year

If the Royal Family thought they could have been eased drama-free into 2023 then they couldn’t have been more wrong.

Prince Harry during an interview to promote his memoir Spare

Back then they were bracing themselves for the release of Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare, just weeks after Harry and Meghan’s controversial series dropped on Netflix. The book was filled with bombshell after bombshell as he alleged William physically attacked him; lifted the lid on Kate’s feud with Meghan; attacked his stepmother Queen Camilla and claimed his dad didn’t hug him after his mother Princess Diana died.

But the royals responded in what has become their trademark way – “never complain, never explain”. And in their first engagement after the release of the book, William and Kate got a rapturous welcome as they opened a hospital in Liverpool. One elderly woman, who had an appointment at the hospital, stood against a barrier waiting to talk to William and when he stopped she grasped his hand. The 81-year-old, who only gave her first name Sylvia, said “Keep going Will, Scousers love you”, and he replied, “I will do”.

    Frogmore eviction

But it seems that it was weeks later when the ramifications of the controversial book really started to hit home for Harry when it was revealed that he and Meghan were being evicted from Frogmore Cottage. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed they had been asked to ‘vacate’ their Windsor home, which had been given to them as a wedding present from the late Queen – although they hardly used it.

The request to leave their UK base just weeks after Harry’s damning book was released came amid reports that the move was sanctioned by the King and would remove their remaining foothold in the UK and further weaken ties with the royal family. The decision was interpreted as a major rebuke by Charles to his son.

    Title reveal

But just days later, it was confirmed that Harry and Meghan’s children Archie and Lilibet had taken on prince and princess titles. Harry and Meghan’s youngsters became a prince and princess when the King acceded to the throne, but have remained a plain ‘master’ and ‘miss’ on the Buckingham Palace website until then.

It is understood the King was aware beforehand that the Sussexes intended to refer to their daughter as Princess Lili and that there had been correspondence about the matter. It came as Lili was baptised in California, with the couple’s spokesperson saying: “I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor.”

It is understood the titles will be used in formal settings, but not in everyday conversational use by the couple, and this was the first opportunity to do so since the death of the late Queen.

    Coronation planning

As 2023 went into the spring, planning and preparation for the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla really started to step up.

The guest list was drawn up and invitations were sent but a big question mark hung over two royals’ attendance – Harry and Meghan. Organisers were going right down to the wire planning the huge spectacle at Westminster Abbey, without knowing if the Sussexes would attend or not.

However, around three weeks before the big day, a final decision was confirmed, Harry would attend his father’s big day but Meghan would remain at home with the children, especially as the day coincided with Archie’s fourth birthday.

    Crowning glory

The undoubted high point of the royal year was the Coronation, which took place on May 6 and finally saw King Charles and Queen Camilla officially crowned. Tens of thousands turned out in central London to see the pomp and pageantry, with Charles and Camilla processing through the streets in the Gold State Coach and taking to the Palace balcony in their glittering crowns.

They were joined by nearly all of their royal relatives including Prince George, who was a pageboy, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. And although Harry was at the Westminster Abbey ceremony, he left for America as soon as it finished. The Coronation kicked off a bumper bank holiday weekend of celebrations, which included a star-studded concert at Windsor Castle and a day of volunteering, which saw William, Kate and their children help to renovate a Scouts Hut.

Speaking after the spectacular weekend, Charles said: “To know that we have your support and encouragement, and to witness your kindness expressed in so many different ways, has been the greatest possible Coronation gift, as we now rededicate our lives to serving the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and Commonwealth.”

    Day of reflection

After the usual summer of attending sporting events and holidaying in Balmoral, the Royal Family had to face a sad anniversary – one year since the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II. On the day of the anniversary, September 8, Charles and Camilla attended the Scottish church where the late Queen worshipped for a poignant event where private prayers were said and a moment of reflection observed for the nation’s longest-serving monarch.

Members of the royal family also marked the anniversary around the country, and the Princess of Wales was visibly moved when, with her husband by her side, she laid flowers by a portrait of the late Queen during a private service at St Davids Cathedral in Wales.

The princess, wearing pearl earrings which belonged to Elizabeth II, later spoke to guests at a reception in the cloisters, telling them: “We all have wonderful memories of her, we have to hold on to them.” Meanwhile, at Windsor Castle Prince Harry even visited St George’s Chapel where his grandmother was laid to rest – although marked the day hundreds of miles apart from his father in Scotland and older brother William in Wales.

Despite the distance, it seems there was a thawing of relations between Harry and his father as the year started to reach its end. It was revealed the Duke of Sussex telephoned the King to wish him a happy birthday as his father celebrated turning 75 on November 14.

The Duke of Sussex called his ‘Pa’ following a day of engagements for the monarch, although the pair had barely been on speaking terms for months. Royal sources said it was likely to be a “nice surprise” for the King, who had not heard from Harry, either by phone or message, “for some time”.

Afterwards, Charles was reportedly still open to hearing from Harry, his “dear boy”. There was an open invite for the pair to meet whenever he’s in the UK, it has been reported, with plans for father and son to talk again soon.

    Race row

But just weeks later, Harry and Meghan’s relationship with their royal relatives was put under the microscope yet again due to the release of controversial book Endgme by Omid Scobie, which reignited a royal race row.

That’s because a Dutch version of the book named the two members of the royal family alleged to have raised “concerns” about the skin colour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son, Prince Archie. The version being sold in English-speaking countries does not name the two people with Mr Scobie stating: “Laws in the United Kingdom prevent me from reporting who they were.”

In their interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, the Sussexes alleged an unidentified member of the monarchy – but not the late Queen Elizabeth II or her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh – had raised “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born”.

Meghan’s claim in 2021 led to a difficult period for the royal family, with the Prince of Wales having to defend the monarchy against accusations of racism, saying: “We’re very much not a racist family.”

The two names came to light in letters exchanged between Meghan and Charles in the aftermath of the Sussexes’ Winfrey interview, according to Endgame. In his book, Mr Scobie says of Charles’s correspondence with his daughter-in-law: “The King, said sources, wanted his response to make clear to Meghan that he felt there was no ill will or casual prejudice present when the two people had spoken about his future grandson.”

    United front

But earlier this month, the royals put on a united front with a rare show of unity at a traditional end of year event. King Charles was joined by Queen Camilla , Prince William and Kate at a dazzling Buckingham Palace reception, which traditionally heralds the start of the festive period for the royals.

The royals appeared to brush aside any concerns over the furore at the glittering Diplomatic Corps reception. The annual gathering, which is one of the most scintillating dates in the royal calendar and only postponed during the Covid crisis, welcomes over 500 members of the Diplomatic Corps in the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace.

The royals released a special picture from the glittering Buckingham Palace reception. The Princess of Wales stunned in a pink Jenny Packham dress and diamond encrusted Lover’s Knot tiara. The iconic piece was one of Princess Diana’s favourite pieces and created for Queen Mary in 1914 by the House of Garrard from pearls and diamonds already owned by her family.

The picture was taken in the 1844 Room ahead of the Diplomatic Ball. The Queen wore a cream embroidered evening gown by Fiona Clare; the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara and also the Queen Mother’s – diamond brooch, known as a stomacher, and the late Queen’s diamond bracelet. A royal aide said: “We are very much focused on the job in hand.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been known to give back over the course of their careers, with the couple having supported various charities and initiatives again this year

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have attracted attention through their charity work over the years, with them having supported and promoted a number of different causes.

This has included spending time on the ground, providing financial support and raising awareness. Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, have experience as charity patrons, with the Duke of Sussex’s patronages including the Invictus Games Foundation, which supports veterans and armed services personnel. He is also the a patron and co-founder of Sentebale, which supports young people in various circumstances in Lesotho.

Meghan is understood to have supported charities tackling poverty and racism, for example. Her patronages include SmartWorks, which provides “marginalised women” with support and resources related to employment. And over the last year, the couple have further supported charities, including related to education. Prince Harry and Meghan have also launched more philanthropic initiatives through their organisation the Archewell Foundation (AWF). Here, we’ve taken a look at some of their charitable acts and efforts from 2023.

The AWF celebrated International Day of the Girl in October by supporting Troop 6000. It’s been described as a “first-of-its-kind programme designed to serve families living in temporary housing in the New York City shelter system.”

For the occasion, the AWF was “thrilled to join the girls and their troop leaders for dinner and provide a donation of scarves, beanies, and tote bags.” It’s unclear if Meghan was present, though she’s said to have shared a message with members of the Girl Scouts of Greater New York’s Troop.

The AWF said at the time that it had marked the start of the new school term by providing support. The organisation said it had sent “school supplies and menstrual products to young scholars” in the country through the foundation.

The AWF marked Earth Day in April by teaming up with the nonprofit organisation LA Waterkeeper. It “safeguards water resources, combat pollution, and foster a genuinely sustainable and equitable future” in Los Angeles, California.

It’s unclear if Prince Harry and Meghan directly contributed, though their foundation “participated in a cleanup of the LA River”. Their team are said to have joined LA Waterkeeper and “spent the morning supporting these water warriors”.

International Women’s Day in March saw the AWF support non-profit organisation Harvest Home. The latter states on its website that it “transforms the lives of homeless pregnant women and their children by providing housing, support, and programs that equip women to become great mothers.”

Meghan and the AWF team are said to marked the occasion this year by creating a pop-up boutique, which included “baby essentials” and health products. They are also said to have hosted lunch from a restaurant and made a donation.

    The Welcome Project

The AWF recently shared that it launched a new initiative, the Welcome Project, this year. It’s said to support “women-led programming for recently resettled Afghan women to help build more inclusive and connected communities.”

The organisation has said that there are already 11 active Welcome Projects across the U.S. “designed to foster a sense of belonging” through activities such as sewing, art, hiking, swimming, storytelling, and cooking. The AWF states that the project also provides access to educational opportunities, employment and entrepreneurship.

More than 200 women are said to have come together through the scheme since it launched. Almost 98 percent are said to have “increased their sense of social connection and decreased feelings of loneliness” as a result of it.

    Humanity Crew

The foundation’s annual Impact Report said it supported Humanity Crew too. The mental health aid organisation’s work is said to “prevent trauma with displaced children and their families” in the wake of humanitarian crises.

The AWF shared that with its support, its partner “reached civilians to address the devastation” following an earthquake in Turkey and Syria in February. It added that more than 3,000 hours of “trauma-informed mental health support” was provided in those two countries after the incident.

    Parents support network

Prince Harry and Meghan’s organisation announced it had established a parent support network too. The AWF is said to have spent time engaging with parents whose children and families “have been impacted by online harm”.

It said: “Over the past year, we have built a first of its kind support network for these parents as the initial and most important step to building safer online communities.” 87 percent of participants are said to have felt that it “has played an important role in their healing journey”.

The couple notably fronted the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit: Mental Wellness in a Digital Age in October. The AWF states that it’s building a community of families who support one another, whilst becoming a platform and “catalyst” for change “towards a safer online world”.
